Getting Started
---------------
For standard Asp.Net template you need to modify four files (this will be the default template instrumentation in future).
[Application Insights monitoring](http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/application-insights/) is a service that allows you to collect monitoring and diagnostics information about your application. [Getting started](https://github.com/Microsoft/ApplicationInsights-aspnetv5/wiki/Getting-Started) guide shows how you can onboard your Asp.Net v5 web application to use Application Insights SDK.
***project.json***
Add new reference:
```
"Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.AspNet": "0.30.0.1-beta"
```
Application Insights collects lots of out-of-the-box information like requests, exceptions and usage. It also allows to configure additional data collection. [Configure](https://github.com/Microsoft/ApplicationInsights-aspnetv5/wiki/Configure) guide demonstrates the most common tasks you may want to do.
***config.json***
Configure instrumentation key:
```
"ApplicationInsights": {
"InstrumentationKey": "11111111-2222-3333-4444-555555555555"
}
```
***Startup.cs***
Add service:
```
services.AddApplicationInsightsTelemetry(Configuration);
```
Release notes
-------------
Add middleware and configure developer mode:
**[0.30.0.1-beta]**(https://github.com/Microsoft/ApplicationInsights-aspnetv5/releases/tag/v0.30.0.1-beta)
```
// Add Application Insights monitoring to the request pipeline as a very first middleware.
app.UseApplicationInsightsRequestTelemetry();
...
// Add the following to the request pipeline only in development environment.
if (string.Equals(env.EnvironmentName, "Development", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase))
{
app.SetApplicationInsightsTelemetryDeveloperMode();
}
...
// Add Application Insights exceptions handling to the request pipeline.
app.UseApplicationInsightsExceptionTelemetry();
```
***_Layout.cshtml***
Define using and injection:
```
@using Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.AspNet
@inject Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.DataContracts.RequestTelemetry RequestTelelemtry
```
And insert HtmlHelper to the end of ```<head>``` section:
```
@Html.ApplicationInsightsJavaScriptSnippet(RequestTelelemtry.Context.InstrumentationKey);
</head>
```
Preview of Application Insights. Works only with full framework. Will compile for Core framework, but will not work for it.

3. SDK is build with beta4 asp.net nuget packages so it cannot run with Visual Studio 2015 CTP6. You'll need to use dnx directly like explained in this [article](http://www.dzone.com/articles/developing-and-self-hosting). Please note, that recently "k" was renamed to "dnx" - you'll need to adjust instructions accordingly.
Development is in [develop](https://github.com/Microsoft/ApplicationInsights-aspnetv5/tree/develop) branch. Master branch has latest stable release.
