Sometimes the stream may be stopped due to XRUN events, in which case
the userspace can call snd_pcm_drop() and snd_pcm_prepare() to stop and
start the stream again.
In these cases, we must wait for the DMA channel to synchronize before
marking the stream as prepared for playback, as the DMA channel gets
stopped by drop() without any synchronization. Make sure the ALSA core
synchronizes the DMA channel by adding a sync_stop() hook.

Add members to struct snd_soc_card to store the PCI subsystem ID (SSID)
of the soundcard.
The PCI specification provides two registers to store a vendor-specific
SSID that can be read by drivers to uniquely identify a particular
"soundcard". This is defined in the PCI specification to distinguish
products that use the same silicon (and therefore have the same silicon
ID) so that product-specific differences can be applied.
PCI only defines 0xFFFF as an invalid value. 0x0000 is not defined as
invalid. So the usual pattern of zero-filling the struct and then
assuming a zero value unset will not work. A flag is included to
indicate when the SSID information has been filled in.
Unlike DMI information, which has a free-format entirely up to the vendor,
the PCI SSID has a strictly defined format and a registry of vendor IDs.
It is usual in Windows drivers that the SSID is used as the sole identifier
of the specific end-product and the Windows driver contains tables mapping
that to information about the hardware setup, rather than using ACPI
properties.
This SSID is important information for ASoC components that need to apply
hardware-specific configuration on PCI-based systems.
As the SSID is a generic part of the PCI specification and is treated as
identifying the "soundcard", it is reasonable to include this information
in struct snd_soc_card, instead of components inventing their own custom
ways to pass this information around.

In the BE hw_params configuration, the existing code checks if any of the
existing FEs are prepared, running, paused or suspended - and skips the
configuration in those cases. This allows multiple calls of hw_params
which the ALSA state machine supports.
This check is not handled for the prepare stage, which can lead to the
same BE being prepared multiple times. This patch adds a check similar to
that of the hw_params, with the main difference being that the suspended
state is allowed: the ALSA state machine allows a transition from
suspended to prepared with hw_params skipped.
This problem was detected on Intel IPC4/SoundWire devices, where the BE
dailink .prepare stage is used to configure the SoundWire stream with a
bank switch. Multiple .prepare calls lead to conflicts with the .trigger
operation with IPC4 configurations. This problem was not detected earlier
on Intel devices, HDaudio BE dailinks detect that the link is already
prepared and skip the configuration, and for IPC3 devices there is no BE
trigger.

commit 3c75c0ea5d upstream.
The recent change for DPCM locking caused spurious lockdep warnings.
Actually the warnings are false-positive, as those are triggered due
to the nested stream locks for FE and BE. Since both locks belong to
the same lock class, lockdep sees it as if a deadlock.
For fixing this, we need to take PCM stream locks for BE with the
nested lock primitives. Since currently snd_pcm_stream_lock*() helper
assumes only the top-level single locking, a new helper function
snd_pcm_stream_lock_irqsave_nested() is defined for a single-depth
nested lock, which is now used in the BE DAI trigger that is always
performed inside a FE stream lock.

On start/pause_release/resume, when more than one FE is connected to
the same BE, it's possible that the trigger is sent more than
once. This is not desirable, we only want to trigger a BE once, which
is straightforward to implement with a refcount.
For stop/pause/suspend, the problem is more complicated: the check
implemented in snd_soc_dpcm_can_be_free_stop() may fail due to a
conceptual deadlock when we trigger the BE before the FE. In this
case, the FE states have not yet changed, so there are corner cases
where the TRIGGER_STOP is never sent - the dual case of start where
multiple triggers might be sent.
This patch suggests an unconditional trigger in all cases, without
checking the FE states, using a refcount protected by the BE PCM
stream lock.

The existing locking for DPCM has several issues
a) a confusing mix of card->mutex and card->pcm_mutex.
b) a dpcm_lock spinlock added inconsistently and on paths that could
be recursively taken. The use of irqsave/irqrestore was also overkill.
The suggested model is:
1) The pcm_mutex is the top-most protection of BE links in the FE. The
pcm_mutex is applied always on either the top PCM callbacks or the
external call from DAPM, not taken in the internal functions.
2) the FE stream lock is taken in higher levels before invoking
dpcm_be_dai_trigger()
3) when adding and deleting a BE, both the pcm_mutex and FE stream
lock are taken.

commit e8444560b4 upstream.
The HDAudio ASoC support relies on the set_tdm_slots() helper to store
the HDaudio stream tag in the tx_mask. This only works because of the
pre-existing order in soc-pcm.c, where the hw_params() is handled for
codec_dais *before* cpu_dais. When the order is reversed, the
stream_tag is used as a mask in the codec fixup functions:
/* fixup params based on TDM slot masks */
if (substream->stream == SNDRV_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK &&
codec_dai->tx_mask)
soc_pcm_codec_params_fixup(&codec_params,
codec_dai->tx_mask);
As a result of this confusion, the codec_params_fixup() ends-up
generating bad channel masks, depending on what stream_tag was
allocated.
We could add a flag to state that the tx_mask is really not a mask,
but it would be quite ugly to persist in overloading concepts.
Instead, this patch suggests a more generic get/set 'stream' API based
on the existing model for SoundWire. We can expand the concept to
store 'stream' opaque information that is specific to different DAI
types. In the case of HDAudio DAIs, we only need to store a stream tag
as an unsigned char pointer. The TDM rx_ and tx_masks should really
only be used to store masks.
Rename get_sdw_stream/set_sdw_stream callbacks and helpers as
get_stream/set_stream. No functionality change beyond the rename.

commit fee2b871d8 upstream.
This is a small helper function to handle the error path more easily
when an error happens during the probe for the device with the
device-managed card. Since devres releases in the reverser order of
the creations, usually snd_card_free() gets called at the last in the
probe error path unless it already reached snd_card_register() calls.
Due to this nature, when a driver expects the resource releases in
card->private_free, this might be called too lately.
As a workaround, one should call the probe like:
static int __some_probe(...) { // do real probe.... }
static int some_probe(...)
{
return snd_card_free_on_error(dev, __some_probe(dev, ...));
}
so that the snd_card_free() is called explicitly at the beginning of
the error path from the probe.
This function will be used in the upcoming fixes to address the
regressions by devres usages.

commit bc55cfd571 upstream.
syzbot caught a potential deadlock between the PCM
runtime->buffer_mutex and the mm->mmap_lock. It was brought by the
recent fix to cover the racy read/write and other ioctls, and in that
commit, I overlooked a (hopefully only) corner case that may take the
revert lock, namely, the OSS mmap. The OSS mmap operation
exceptionally allows to re-configure the parameters inside the OSS
mmap syscall, where mm->mmap_mutex is already held. Meanwhile, the
copy_from/to_user calls at read/write operations also take the
mm->mmap_lock internally, hence it may lead to a AB/BA deadlock.
A similar problem was already seen in the past and we fixed it with a
refcount (in commit b248371628). The former fix covered only the
call paths with OSS read/write and OSS ioctls, while we need to cover
the concurrent access via both ALSA and OSS APIs now.
This patch addresses the problem above by replacing the buffer_mutex
lock in the read/write operations with a refcount similar as we've
used for OSS. The new field, runtime->buffer_accessing, keeps the
number of concurrent read/write operations. Unlike the former
buffer_mutex protection, this protects only around the
copy_from/to_user() calls; the other codes are basically protected by
the PCM stream lock. The refcount can be a negative, meaning blocked
by the ioctls. If a negative value is seen, the read/write aborts
with -EBUSY. In the ioctl side, OTOH, they check this refcount, too,
and set to a negative value for blocking unless it's already being
accessed.

When a codec is unbound dynamically via sysfs while its stream is in
use, we may face a potential deadlock at the proc remove or a UAF.
This happens since the hda_pcm is managed by a linked list, as it
handles the hda_pcm object release via kref.
When a PCM is opened at the unbinding time, the release of hda_pcm
gets delayed and it ends up with the close of the PCM stream releasing
the associated hda_pcm object of its own. The hda_pcm destructor
contains the PCM device release that includes the removal of procfs
entries. And, this removal has the sync of the close of all in-use
files -- which would never finish because it's called from the PCM
file descriptor itself, i.e. it's trying to shoot its foot.
For addressing the deadlock above, this patch changes the way to
manage and release the hda_pcm object. The kref of hda_pcm is
dropped, and instead a simple refcount is introduced in hda_codec for
keeping the track of the active PCM streams, and at each PCM open and
close, this refcount is adjusted accordingly. At unbinding, the
driver calls snd_device_disconnect() for each PCM stream, then
synchronizes with the refcount finish, and finally releases the object
resources.

It seems that a few recent AMD systems show the codec configuration
errors at the early boot, while loading the driver at a later stage
works magically. Although the root cause of the error isn't clear,
it's certainly not bad to allow retrying the codec probe in such a
case if that helps.
This patch adds the capability for retrying the probe upon codec probe
errors on the certain AMD platforms. The probe_work is changed to a
delayed work, and at the secondary call, it'll jump to the codec
probing.
Note that, not only adding the re-probing, this includes the behavior
changes in the codec configuration function. Namely,
snd_hda_codec_configure() won't unregister the codec at errors any
longer. Instead, its caller, azx_codec_configure() unregisters the
codecs with the probe failures *if* any codec has been successfully
configured. If all codec probe failed, it doesn't unregister but let
it re-probed -- which is the most case we're seeing and this patch
tries to improve.
Even if the driver doesn't re-probe or give up, it will go to the
"free-all" error path, hence the leftover codecs shall be disabled /
deleted in anyway.

and a good set of new drivers.
- Lots of cleanups and improvements to the Intel drivers,
including some new systems support.
- New support for AMD Vangoh, CUI CMM-4030D-261, Mediatek
Mt8195, Renesas RZ/G2L Mediatek Mt8195, RealTek RT101P,
Renesas RZ/G2L,, Rockchip RK3568 S/PDIF.
This patch suggests an unconditional trigger in all cases, without
checking the FE states, using a refcount protected by a spinlock.

The recent refactoring of es1688 object creation with the use of
devres caused a problem with the non-PnP probe of GUS driver, as it
tries to probe multiple times with different parameters That is, this
object needs the immediate resource release and the devres doesn't fit
for it.
This patch reverts partially the commit for restoring the classic
resource management for es1688 object.

Now with the recent addition of WC buffer allocation support, we can
use the standard PCM buffer allocation helpers for pxa2xx drivers.
This allows us to remove lots of superfluous code.

A few drivers want to have rather the exact buffer preallocation at
the driver probe time and keep using it for the whole operations
without allowing dynamic buffer allocation. For satisfying the
demands, this patch extends the managed buffer allocation API
slightly.
Namely, when 0 is passed to max argument of the allocation helper
functions snd_pcm_set_managed_buffer*(), it treats as if the fixed
size allocation of the given size. If the pre-allocation fails in
this mode, the function returns now -ENOMEM. Otherwise, i.e. max
argument is non-zero, the function never returns -ENOMEM but tries to
fall back to the smaller chunks and allows the dynamic allocation
later -- which is still the default behavior until now.
For more intuitive use, also two new helpers are added for handling
the fixed size buffer allocation, too: snd_pcm_set_fixed_buffer() and
snd_pcm_set_fixed_buffer_all().

A collection of fixes for ASoC that have come in since the merge window,

the order of operations when shutting down, this is needed to fix a bug
with the AMD Stonyridge platform, and we also tweak the Kconfig to make
the SSM2518 driver user selectable so it can be used with generic cards
but that requires no actual code changes.

This patch converts the resource management in ISA es1688 driver with
devres as a clean up. Each manual resource management is converted
with the corresponding devres helper. The remove callback became
superfluous and dropped.
This should give no user-visible functional changes.

As a second step for preliminary to widen the devres usages among
sound drivers, this patch adds a new ALSA core API function,
snd_devm_card_new(), to create a snd_card object via devres.
When a card object is created by this new function, snd_card_free() is
called automatically and the card object resource gets released at the
device unbinding time.
However, the story isn't that simple. A caveat is that we have to
call snd_card_free() at the very first of the whole resource release
procedure, in order to assure that the all exposed devices on
user-space are deleted and sync with processes accessing those devices
before releasing resources.
For achieving it, snd_card_register() adds a new devres action to
trigger snd_card_free() automatically when the given card object is a
"managed" one. Since usually snd_card_register() is the last step of
the initialization, this should work in most cases.
With all these tricks, some drivers can get rid of the whole driver
remove callback code.
About a bit of implementation details: the patch adds two new flags to
snd_card object: managed and releasing. The former indicates that the
object was created via snd_devm_card_new(), and the latter is used for
avoiding the double-free of snd_card_free() calls. Both flags are
fairly internal and likely uninteresting to normal users.

This is a preparation for allowing devres usages more widely in
various sound drivers. As a first step, this patch adds a new
allocator function, snd_devm_alloc_pages(), to manage the allocated
pages via devres, so that the pages will be automagically released as
device unbinding.
Unlike the old snd_dma_alloc_pages(), the new function returns
directly the snd_dma_buffer pointer. The caller needs NULL-check for
the allocation error appropriately.
Also, since a real device pointer is mandatory for devres,
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_CONTINUOUS or SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_VMALLOC type can't be used
for this function.

snd_soc_of_parse_daifmt() parses daifmt, but bitclock/frame provider
parsing part is one of headacke, because we are assuming below both cases.
A) node {
bitclock-master;
frame-master;
...
};
B) link {
bitclock-master = <&xxx>;
frame-master = <&xxx>;
...
};
The original was style A), and style B) was added later
by commit b3ca11ff59 ("ASoC: simple-card: Move dai-link level
properties away from dai subnodes").
snd_soc_of_parse_daifmt() parses it as style A),
and user need to update it to style B) if needed.
To handle it more flexibile, this patch adds new functions
which separates snd_soc_of_parse_daifmt() helper function.
snd_soc_daifmt_parse_format() :for DAI format
snd_soc_daifmt_parse_clock_provider_as_flag() :for style A)
snd_soc_daifmt_parse_clock_provider_as_phandl() :for style B)
