Cong Wang 47733f9daf tipc: fix uninit skb->data in tipc_nl_compat_dumpit()
__tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() has two callers, and it expects them to
pass a valid nlmsghdr via arg->data. This header is artificial and
crafted just for __tipc_nl_compat_dumpit().

tipc_nl_compat_publ_dump() does so by putting a genlmsghdr as well
as some nested attribute, TIPC_NLA_SOCK. But the other caller
tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() does not, this leaves arg->data uninitialized
on this call path.

Fix this by just adding a similar nlmsghdr without any payload in
tipc_nl_compat_dumpit().

This bug exists since day 1, but the recent commit 6ea67769ff
("net: tipc: prepare attrs in __tipc_nl_compat_dumpit()") makes it
easier to appear.

The complaint above occurred because the memory region pointed by attrbuf
variable was not initialized. To eliminate this warning, we use kcalloc()
rather than kmalloc_array() to allocate memory for attrbuf.

John Rutherford fd567ac20c tipc: fix link name length check
In commit 4f07b80c97 ("tipc: check msg->req data len in
tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable") the same patch code was copied into
routines: tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable(),
tipc_nl_compat_link_stat_dump() and tipc_nl_compat_link_reset_stats().
The two link routine occurrences should have been modified to check
the maximum link name length and not bearer name length.

Taras Kondratiuk 4da5f0018e tipc: compat: allow tipc commands without arguments
Commit 2753ca5d90 ("tipc: fix uninit-value in tipc_nl_compat_doit")
broke older tipc tools that use compat interface (e.g. tipc-config from
tipcutils package):

operation not supported

The commit started to reject TIPC netlink compat messages that do not
have attributes. It is too restrictive because some of such messages are
valid (they don't need any arguments):

TLV_GET_DATA_LEN() may return a negtive int value, which will be
used as size_t (becoming a big unsigned long) passed into memchr,
cause this issue.

Similar to what it does in tipc_nl_compat_bearer_enable(), this
fix is to return -EINVAL when TLV_GET_DATA_LEN() is negtive in
tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable(), as well as in
tipc_nl_compat_link_stat_dump() and tipc_nl_compat_link_reset_stats().

Johannes Berg ef6243acb4 genetlink: optionally validate strictly/dumps
Add options to strictly validate messages and dump messages,
sometimes perhaps validating dump messages non-strictly may
be required, so add an option for that as well.

Since none of this can really be applied to existing commands,
set the options everwhere using the following spatch:

Johannes Berg 8cb081746c netlink: make validation more configurable for future strictness
We currently have two levels of strict validation:

 1) liberal (default)
     - undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
     - attribute length >= expected accepted
     - garbage at end of message accepted
 2) strict (opt-in)
     - NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
     - attribute length >= expected accepted

Split out parsing strictness into four different options:
 * TRAILING     - check that there's no trailing data after parsing
                  attributes (in message or nested)
 * MAXTYPE      - reject attrs > max known type
 * UNSPEC       - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries
 * STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size

The default for future things should be *everything*.
The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE,
and is renamed to _deprecated_strict().
The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to
*_parse_deprecated().

Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags
even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in
this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to
not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going
forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply
to the POLICY flag.

We end up with the following renames:
 * nla_parse           -> nla_parse_deprecated
 * nla_parse_strict    -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict
 * nlmsg_parse         -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated
 * nlmsg_parse_strict  -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict
 * nla_parse_nested    -> nla_parse_nested_deprecated
 * nla_validate_nested -> nla_validate_nested_deprecated

new caller of nla_parse()/nlmsg_parse() etc as re-introduced in the
next patch, while existing things will continue to work as is.

In effect then, this adds fully strict validation for any new command.

Michal Kubecek ae0be8de9a netlink: make nla_nest_start() add NLA_F_NESTED flag
Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most
netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not
setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers
not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's
mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display
the structure of their contents.

Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be
userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than
through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames
nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start()
as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually
are rewritten to use nla_nest_start().

Except for changes in include/net/netlink.h, the patch was generated using
this semantic patch:

It was supposed to be fixed on commit 974cb0e3e7 ("tipc: fix uninit-value
in tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump") by checking TLV_GET_DATA_LEN(msg->req)
in cmd->header()/tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump_header(), which is called
ahead of tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump().

However, tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() doesn't handle the error returned from cmd
header function. It means even when the check added in that fix fails, it
won't stop calling tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump(), and the issue will be
triggered again.

So this patch is to add the process for the err returned from cmd header
function in tipc_nl_compat_dumpit().

Xin Long 8c63bf9ab4 tipc: check link name with right length in tipc_nl_compat_link_set
A similar issue as fixed by Patch "tipc: check bearer name with right
length in tipc_nl_compat_bearer_enable" was also found by syzbot in
tipc_nl_compat_link_set().

The length to check with should be 'TLV_GET_DATA_LEN(msg->req) -
offsetof(struct tipc_link_config, name)'.

In tipc_nl_compat_recv(), when the len variable returned by
nlmsg_attrlen() is 0, the message is still treated as a valid one,
which is obviously unresonable. When len is zero, it means the
message not only doesn't contain any valid TLV payload, but also
TLV header is not included. Under this stituation, tlv_type field
in TLV header is still accessed in tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() or
tipc_nl_compat_doit(), but the field space is obviously illegal.
Of course, it is not initialized.

The root cause is that we don't validate whether bear name is a valid

Cong Wang 8f5c5fcf35 tipc: call start and done ops directly in __tipc_nl_compat_dumpit()
__tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() uses a netlink_callback on stack,
so the only way to align it with other ->dumpit() call path
is calling tipc_dump_start() and tipc_dump_done() directly
inside it. Otherwise ->dumpit() would always get NULL from
cb->args[].

But tipc_dump_start() uses sock_net(cb->skb->sk) to retrieve
net pointer, the cb->skb here doesn't set skb->sk, the net pointer
is saved in msg->net instead, so introduce a helper function
__tipc_dump_start() to pass in msg->net.

Ying pointed out cb->args[0...3] are already used by other
callbacks on this call path, so we can't use cb->args[0] any
more, use cb->args[4] instead.

Kees Cook 6da2ec5605 treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array()
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This
patch replaces cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b, gfp)

with:
        kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own
implementation of kmalloc().

Ying Xue ed4ffdfec2 tipc: Fix missing RTNL lock protection during setting link properties
Currently when user changes link properties, TIPC first checks if
user's command message contains media name or bearer name through
tipc_media_find() or tipc_bearer_find() which is protected by RTNL
lock. But when tipc_nl_compat_link_set() conducts the checking with
the two functions, it doesn't hold RTNL lock at all, as a result,
the following complaints were reported:

Ying Xue e5d1a1eec0 tipc: Refactor __tipc_nl_compat_doit
As preparation for adding RTNL to make (*cmd->transcode)() and
(*cmd->transcode)() constantly protected by RTNL lock, we move out of
memory allocations existing between them as many as possible so that
the time of holding RTNL can be minimized in __tipc_nl_compat_doit().

Arvind Yadav 042a90106b net: tipc: constify genl_ops
genl_ops are not supposed to change at runtime. All functions
working with genl_ops provided by <net/genetlink.h> work with
const genl_ops. So mark the non-const structs as const.

Johannes Berg 56989f6d85 genetlink: mark families as __ro_after_init
Now genl_register_family() is the only thing (other than the
users themselves, perhaps, but I didn't find any doing that)
writing to the family struct.

In all families that I found, genl_register_family() is only
called from __init functions (some indirectly, in which case
I've add __init annotations to clarifly things), so all can
actually be marked __ro_after_init.

This protects the data structure from accidental corruption.

Johannes Berg 489111e5c2 genetlink: statically initialize families
Instead of providing macros/inline functions to initialize
the families, make all users initialize them statically and
get rid of the macros.

This reduces the kernel code size by about 1.6k on x86-64
(with allyesconfig).

Johannes Berg a07ea4d994 genetlink: no longer support using static family IDs
Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.

Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)

Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get
rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust.

Richard Alpe 55e77a3e82 tipc: fix nl compat regression for link statistics
Fix incorrect use of nla_strlcpy() where the first NLA_HDRLEN bytes
of the link name where left out.

Making the output of tipc-config -ls look something like:
Link statistics:

Also, for the record, the patch that introduce this regression
claims "Sending the whole object out can cause a leak". Which isn't
very likely as this is a compat layer, where the data we are parsing
is generated by us and we know the string to be NULL terminated. But
you can of course never be to secure.

Jon Paul Maloy 38206d5939 tipc: narrow down interface towards struct tipc_link
We move the definition of struct tipc_link from link.h to link.c in
order to minimize its exposure to the rest of the code.

When needed, we define new functions to make it possible for external
entities to access and set data in the link.

Apart from the above, there are no functional changes.

Jon Paul Maloy 5be9c08671 tipc: narrow down exposure of struct tipc_node
In our effort to have less code and include dependencies between
entities such as node, link and bearer, we try to narrow down
the exposed interface towards the node as much as possible.

In this commit, we move the definition of struct tipc_node, along
with many of its associated function declarations, from node.h to
node.c. We also move some function definitions from link.c and
name_distr.c to node.c, since they access fields in struct tipc_node
that should not be externally visible. The moved functions are renamed
according to new location, and made static whenever possible.

There are no functional changes in this commit.

Richard Alpe 8f8ff9135b tipc: don't sanity check non-existing TLV (NL compat)
A zero length payload means that no TLV (Type Length Value) data has
been passed. Prior to this patch a non-existing TLV could be sanity
checked with TLV_OK() resulting in random behavior where a user
sending an empty message occasionally got a incorrect "operation not
supported" message back.

Richard Alpe c3d6fb85b2 tipc: fix default link prop regression in nl compat
Default link properties can be set for media or bearer. This
functionality was missed when introducing the NL compatibility layer.

This patch implements this functionality in the compat netlink
layer. It works the same way as it did in the old API. We search for
media and bearers matching the "link name". If we find a matching
media or bearer the link tolerance, priority or window is used as
default for new links on that media or bearer.
