During mt8195_afe_init_clock(), mt8195_audsys_clk_register() was called
followed by several other devm functions. At mt8195_afe_deinit_clock()
located at mt8195_afe_pcm_dev_remove(), mt8195_audsys_clk_unregister()
was called.
However, there was an issue with the order in which these functions were
called. Specifically, the remove callback of platform_driver was called
before devres released the resource, resulting in a use-after-free issue
during remove time.
At probe time, the order of calls was:
1. mt8195_audsys_clk_register
2. afe_priv->clk = devm_kcalloc
3. afe_priv->clk[i] = devm_clk_get
At remove time, the order of calls was:
1. mt8195_audsys_clk_unregister
3. free afe_priv->clk[i]
2. free afe_priv->clk
To resolve the problem, we can utilize devm_add_action_or_reset() in
mt8195_audsys_clk_register() so that the remove order can be changed to
3->2->1.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

Apply a workaround for what appears to be a hardware quirk.
The problem seems to happen when enabling "whole chip power" (bit D7

either "output" (D4) or "DAC" (D3) aren't powered on at that time,
playback becomes very distorted later on.
This happens on the Google Chameleon v3, as well as on a ZYBO Z7-10:

commit 8b271370e9 upstream.
The rt5682 driver switches its regmap to cache-only when the
device suspends and back to regular mode on resume. When the
jack detect interrupt fires rt5682_irq() schedules the jack
detect work. This can result in invalid reads from the regmap
in cache-only mode if the work runs before the device has
resumed:
[ 56.245502] rt5682 9-001a: ASoC: error at soc_component_read_no_lock on rt5682.9-001a for register: [0x000000f0] -16
Disable the jack detection interrupt during suspend and
re-enable it on resume. The driver already schedules the
jack detection work on resume, so any state change during
suspend is still handled.
This is essentially the same as commit f7d00a9be1 ("SoC:
rt5682s: Disable jack detection interrupt during suspend")
for the rt5682s.

commit 81302b1c7c upstream.
It's reported that the recording started right after the driver probe
doesn't work properly, and it turned out that this is related with the
codec auto-suspend. Namely, after the probe phase, the usage count
goes zero, and the auto-suspend is programmed, but the codec is kept
still active until the auto-suspend expiration. When an application
(e.g. alsactl) updates the mixer values at this moment, the values are
cached but not actually written. Then, starting arecord thereafter
also results in the silence because of the missing unmute.
The root cause is the handling of "lazy update" mode; when a mixer
value is updated *after* the suspend, it should update only the cache
and exits. At the resume, the cached value is written to the device,
in turn. The problem is that the current code misinterprets the state
of auto-suspend as if it were already suspended.
Although we can add the check of the actual device state after
pm_runtime_get_if_in_use() for catching the missing state, this won't
suffice; the second call of regmap_update_bits_check() will skip
writing the register because the cache has been already updated by the
first call. So we'd need fixes in two different places.
OTOH, a simpler fix is to replace pm_runtime_get_if_in_use() with
pm_runtime_get_if_active() (with ign_usage_count=true). This change
implies that the driver takes the pm refcount if the device is still
in ACTIVE state and continues the processing. A small caveat is that
this will leave the auto-suspend timer. But, since the timer callback
itself checks the device state and aborts gracefully when it's active,
this won't be any substantial problem.
Long story short: we address the missing register-write problem just
by replacing the pm_runtime_*() call in snd_hda_keep_power_up().

commit 754590651c upstream.
When DPCM tries to add valid BE connections at dpcm_add_paths(), it
doesn't check whether the picked BE actually supports for the given
stream direction. Due to that, when an asymmetric BE stream is
present, it picks up wrongly and this may result in a NULL dereference
at a later point where the code assumes the existence of a
corresponding BE substream.
This patch adds the check for the presence of the substream for the
target BE for avoiding the problem above.
Note that we have already some fix for non-existing BE substream at
commit 6246f283d5 ("ASoC: dpcm: skip missing substream while
applying symmetry"). But the code path we've hit recently is rather
happening before the previous fix. So this patch tries to fix at

commit 3c75c0ea5d upstream.
The recent change for DPCM locking caused spurious lockdep warnings.
Actually the warnings are false-positive, as those are triggered due
to the nested stream locks for FE and BE. Since both locks belong to
the same lock class, lockdep sees it as if a deadlock.
For fixing this, we need to take PCM stream locks for BE with the
nested lock primitives. Since currently snd_pcm_stream_lock*() helper
assumes only the top-level single locking, a new helper function
snd_pcm_stream_lock_irqsave_nested() is defined for a single-depth
nested lock, which is now used in the BE DAI trigger that is always
performed inside a FE stream lock.

A BE connected to more than one FE, e.g. in a mixer case, can go
through the following transitions.
play FE1 -> BE state is START

release FE1 -> BE state is START
stop FE1 -> BE state is STOP

pause FE2 -> BE state is PAUSED
release FE1 -> BE state is START
release FE2 -> BE state is START (no change)
stop FE1 -> BE state is START (no change)

The existing code for PAUSE_RELEASE only allows for the case where the
BE is paused, which clearly would not work in the sequences above.
Extend the allowed states to restart the BE when PAUSE_RELEASE is
received, and increase the refcount if the BE is already in START.
[1] the existing logic does not move the BE state back to PAUSED when
the FE2 is stopped. This patch does not change the logic; it would be
painful to keep a history of changes on the FE side, the state machine
is already rather complicated with transitions based on the last BE
state and the trigger type.

On start/pause_release/resume, when more than one FE is connected to
the same BE, it's possible that the trigger is sent more than
once. This is not desirable, we only want to trigger a BE once, which
is straightforward to implement with a refcount.
For stop/pause/suspend, the problem is more complicated: the check
implemented in snd_soc_dpcm_can_be_free_stop() may fail due to a
conceptual deadlock when we trigger the BE before the FE. In this
case, the FE states have not yet changed, so there are corner cases
where the TRIGGER_STOP is never sent - the dual case of start where
multiple triggers might be sent.
This patch suggests an unconditional trigger in all cases, without
checking the FE states, using a refcount protected by the BE PCM
stream lock.

When more than one FE is connected to a BE, e.g. in a mixing use case,
the BE can be triggered multiple times when the FE are opened/started

SoundWire BE dailinks, and this is not desirable in a general

This patch relies on the existing BE PCM lock, which takes atomicity into
account. The locking model assumes that all interactions start with

The existing locking for DPCM has several issues
a) a confusing mix of card->mutex and card->pcm_mutex.
b) a dpcm_lock spinlock added inconsistently and on paths that could
be recursively taken. The use of irqsave/irqrestore was also overkill.
The suggested model is:
1) The pcm_mutex is the top-most protection of BE links in the FE. The
pcm_mutex is applied always on either the top PCM callbacks or the
external call from DAPM, not taken in the internal functions.
2) the FE stream lock is taken in higher levels before invoking
dpcm_be_dai_trigger()
3) when adding and deleting a BE, both the pcm_mutex and FE stream
lock are taken.

need to make sure during the connection between a BE and an FE that
they both use the same 'atomicity', otherwise we may sleep in atomic

If the FE is nonatomic, this patch forces the BE to be nonatomic as
well. That should have no negative impact since the BE 'inherits' the
FE properties.
However, if the FE is atomic and the BE is not, then the configuration

Smatch Warns:

warn: missing unwind goto?
The direct return will cause the stream list of "&tscm->domain" unemptied
and the session in "tscm" unfinished if amdtp_domain_start() returns with
an error.
Fix this by changing the direct return to a goto which will empty the
stream list of "&tscm->domain" and finish the session in "tscm".
The snd_tscm_stream_start_duplex() function is called in the prepare
callback of PCM. According to "ALSA Kernel API Documentation", the prepare
callback of PCM will be called many times at each setup. So, if the
"&d->streams" list is not emptied, when the prepare callback is called
next time, snd_tscm_stream_start_duplex() will receive -EBUSY from
amdtp_domain_add_stream() that tries to add an existing stream to the
domain. The error handling code after the "error" label will be executed
in this case, and the "&d->streams" list will be emptied. So not emptying
the "&d->streams" list will not cause an issue. But it is more efficient
and readable to empty it on the first error by changing the direct return
to a goto statement.
The session in "tscm" has been begun before amdtp_domain_start(), so it
needs to be finished when amdtp_domain_start() fails.

make a running ADC capture hang due to unsetting its interrupt handler.
In principle, this would have also allowed dereferencing dangling

While it may sound like one, this actually wasn't a hypothetical bug:
PortAudio will open a capture stream at startup (and close it right

It's been reported that the recent kernel can't probe the PCM devices
on Roland VS-100 properly, and it turned out to be a regression by the
recent addition of the bit shift range check for the format bits.
In the old code, we just did bit-shift and it resulted in zero, which
is then corrected to the standard PCM format, while the new code
explicitly returns an error in such a case.
For addressing the regression, relax the check and fallback to the
standard PCM type (with the info output).

the net, it seems that this PCI SSID is used for multiple different

Although we may take a different ID check (e.g. the codec SSID instead

and we can't develop the further proper fix.
In this patch, instead, we partially revert the change so that the
quirk won't be applied as default for addressing the regression.
Meanwhile, the quirk function itself is kept, and it's now made to be
applicable via the explicit model=lenovo-20149 option.

The recent support of low latency playback in USB-audio driver made
the snd_usb_queue_pending_output_urbs() function to be called via PCM
ack ops. In the new code path, the function is performed already in
the PCM stream lock. The problem is that, when an XRUN is detected,
the function calls snd_pcm_xrun() to notify, but snd_pcm_xrun() is
supposed to be called only outside the stream lock. As a result, it
leads to a deadlock of PCM stream locking.
For avoiding such a recursive locking, this patch adds an additional
check to the code paths in PCM core that call the ack callback; now it
checks the error code from the callback, and if it's -EPIPE, the XRUN
is handled in the PCM core side gracefully. Along with it, the
USB-audio driver code is changed to follow that, i.e. -EPIPE is
returned instead of the explicit snd_pcm_xrun() call when the function
is performed already in the stream lock.

When the 'ti,gpio-config' property is not defined, the
device_property_count_u32() will return an error, rather than zero.
The current check, only handles a return value of zero, which assumes that
the property is defined and has nothing defined.
This change extends the check to also check for an error case (most likely
to be hit by the case that the 'ti,gpio-config' is not defined).
In case that the 'ti,gpio-config' and the returned 'gpio_count' is not
correct, there is a 'if (gpio_count != ADCX140_NUM_GPIO_CFGS)' check, a few
lines lower that will return -EINVAL.
This means that someone tried to define 'ti,gpio-config', but with the

Channel status get and channel subcode get controls relies on data
returned by controls when certain IRQs are raised. To achieve that
completions are used b/w controls and interrupt service routine. The
concurrent accesses to these controls are protected by
struct snd_card::controls_rwsem.
Issues identified:
- reinit_completion() may be called while waiting for completion
which should be avoided
- in case of multiple threads waiting, the complete() call in interrupt
will signal only one waiting thread per interrupt which may lead to
timeout for the others
- in case of channel status get as the CSC interrupt is not refcounted
ISR may disable interrupt for threads that were just enabled it.
To solve these the access to controls were protected by a mutex. Along
with this there is no need for spinlock to protect the software cache
reads/updates b/w controls and ISR as the update is happening only when
requested from control, and only one reader can reach the control.

The SPDIFRX block is clocked by 2 clocks: peripheral and generic clocks.
Peripheral clock feeds user interface (registers) and generic clock feeds
the receiver.
To enable the receiver the generic clock needs to be enabled and also the
ENABLE bit of MCHP_SPDIFRX_MR register need to be set.
The signal control exported by mchp-spdifrx driver reports wrong status
when the receiver is disabled. This can happen when requesting the signal
and the capture was not previously started. To solve this the receiver
needs to be enabled (by enabling generic clock and setting ENABLE bit of
MR register) before reading the signal status.
As with this fix there are 2 paths now that need to control the generic
clock and ENABLE bit of SPDIFRX_MR register (one path though controls, one
path though configuration) a mutex has been introduced. We can't rely on
subsystem locking as the controls are protected by
struct snd_card::controls_rwsem semaphore and configuration is protected
by a different lock (embedded in snd_pcm_stream_lock_irq()).
The introduction of mutex is also extended to other controls which rely on
SPDIFRX_RSR.ULOCK bit as it has been discovered experimentally that having
both clocks enabled but not the receiver (through ENABLE bit of SPDIFRX.MR)
leads to inconsistent values of SPDIFRX_RSR.ULOCK. Thus on some controls we
rely on software state (dev->trigger_enabled protected by mutex) to
retrieve proper values.

commit 1f810d2b6b upstream.
The HDaudio stream allocation is done first, and in a second step the
LOSIDV parameter is programmed for the multi-link used by a codec.
This leads to a possible stream_tag leak, e.g. if a DisplayAudio link
is not used. This would happen when a non-Intel graphics card is used
and userspace unconditionally uses the Intel Display Audio PCMs without
checking if they are connected to a receiver with jack controls.
We should first check that there is a valid multi-link entry to
configure before allocating a stream_tag. This change aligns the
dma_assign and dma_cleanup phases.

While looking through legacy platform data users, I noticed that
the DT probing never uses data from the DT properties, as the
platform_data structure gets overwritten directly after it
is initialized.
There have never been any boards defining the platform_data in
the mainline kernel either, so this driver so far only worked
with patched kernels or with the default values.
For the benefit of possible downstream users, fix the DT probe
by no longer overwriting the data.

Several functions that take part in codec's initialization and removal
are re-used by ASoC codec drivers implementations. Drivers mimic the
behavior of hda_codec_driver_probe/remove() found in
sound/pci/hda/hda_bind.c with their component->probe/remove() instead.
One of the reasons for that is the expectation of
snd_hda_codec_device_new() to receive a valid pointer to an instance of
struct snd_card. This expectation can be met only once sound card
components probing commences.
As ASoC sound card may be unbound without codec device being actually
removed from the system, unsetting ->preset in
snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind() interferes with module unload -> load
scenario causing null-ptr-deref. Preset is assigned only once, during
device/driver matching whereas ASoC codec driver's module reloading may
occur several times throughout the lifetime of an audio stack.

The amplifier may provide hardware support for I/V feedback, or
alternatively the firmware may generate an echo reference attached to
the SSP and dailink used for the amplifier.
To avoid any issues with invalid/NULL substreams in the latter case,
always unconditionally set dpcm_capture.
