Miguel Rodríguez Pérez 0226009ce0 net: cdc_ether: use dev->intf to get interface information
usbnet_cdc_update_filter was getting the interface number from the
usb_interface struct in cdc_state->control. However, cdc_ncm does
not initialize that structure in its bind function, but uses
cdc_ncm_ctx instead. Getting intf directly from struct usbnet solves
the problem.

Jeremy Kerr e869e7a177 net: usb: ax88179_178a: fix packet alignment padding
Using a AX88179 device (0b95:1790), I see two bytes of appended data on
every RX packet. For example, this 48-byte ping, using 0xff as a
payload byte:

  04:20:22.528472 IP 192.168.1.1 > 192.168.1.2: ICMP echo request, id 2447, seq 1, length 64
	0x0000:  000a cd35 ea50 000a cd35 ea4f 0800 4500
	0x0010:  0054 c116 4000 4001 f63e c0a8 0101 c0a8
	0x0020:  0102 0800 b633 098f 0001 87ea cd5e 0000
	0x0030:  0000 dcf2 0600 0000 0000 ffff ffff ffff
	0x0040: ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff
	0x0050: ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff
	0x0060:  ffff 961f

Those last two bytes - 96 1f - aren't part of the original packet.

In the ax88179 RX path, the usbnet rx_fixup function trims a 2-byte
'alignment pseudo header' from the start of the packet, and sets the
length from a per-packet field populated by hardware. It looks like that
length field *includes* the 2-byte header; the current driver assumes
that it's excluded.

This change trims the 2-byte alignment header after we've set the packet
length, so the resulting packet length is correct. While we're moving
the comment around, this also fixes the spelling of 'pseudo'.

Masahiro Yamada a7f7f6248d treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'
Since commit 84af7a6194 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

There are a variety of indentation styles found.

  a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
  b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
  c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
  d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
  e) 1 tab + '---help---'    (correct indentation)
  f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
  g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'

In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:

  $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

Bjorn Andersson 78734404ef net: usb: ax88179_178a: Implement ethtool_ops set_eeprom
The vendor driver does upon failing to read a valid MAC address from
EEPROM write the netdev's address back to EEPROM and invoking a EEPROM
reload operation. Based on this we can implement the ethtool_ops
set_eeprom and provide the means to populate the EEPROM from within
Linux.

It's worth noting that ax88179_get_eeprom() will return some default
data unless the content of the EEPROM is deemed "complete", so until the
EEPROM is fully populated (e.g. by running ethtool -e | ethtool -E)
data written with ax88179_set_eeprom() will appear not to stick.

The implementation is based on asix_set_eeprom(), from asix_common.c

The NCM specification defines two formats of transfer blocks: with 16-bit
fields (NTB-16) and with 32-bit fields (NTB-32). Currently only NTB-16 is
implemented.

This patch adds the support of NTB-32. The motivation behind this is that
some devices such as E5785 or E5885 from the current generation of Huawei
LTE routers do not support NTB-16. The previous generations of Huawei
devices are also use NTB-32 by default.

Also this patch enables NTB-32 by default for Huawei devices.

NTB-16 support to their router firmware, but they were unsuccessful.

Gustavo A. R. Silva ee3bc9c223 r8152: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:

struct foo {
        int stuff;
        struct boo array[];
};

By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.

Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:

"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]

This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

You-Sheng Yang d64c7a0803 r8152: check disconnect status after long sleep
Dell USB Type C docking WD19/WD19DC attaches additional peripherals as:

  /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/6p, 5000M
      |__ Port 1: Dev 11, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M
          |__ Port 3: Dev 12, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M
          |__ Port 4: Dev 13, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class,
              Driver=r8152, 5000M

where usb 2-1-3 is a hub connecting all USB Type-A/C ports on the dock.

When hotplugging such dock with additional usb devices already attached on
it, the probing process may reset usb 2.1 port, therefore r8152 ethernet
device is also reset. However, during r8152 device init there are several
for-loops that, when it's unable to retrieve hardware registers due to
being disconnected from USB, may take up to 14 seconds each in practice,
and that has to be completed before USB may re-enumerate devices on the
bus. As a result, devices attached to the dock will only be available
after nearly 1 minute after the dock was plugged in:

  [ 216.388290] [250] r8152 2-1.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface
  [ 216.388292] [250] r8152 2-1.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id
  [ 258.830410] r8152 2-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): PHY not ready
  [ 258.830460] r8152 2-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Invalid header when reading pass-thru MAC addr
  [ 258.830464] r8152 2-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Get ether addr fail

This happens in, for example, r8153_init:

  static int generic_ocp_read(struct r8152 *tp, u16 index, u16 size,
			    void *data, u16 type)
  {
    if (test_bit(RTL8152_UNPLUG, &tp->flags))
      return -ENODEV;
    ...
  }

  static u16 ocp_read_word(struct r8152 *tp, u16 type, u16 index)
  {
    u32 data;
    ...
    generic_ocp_read(tp, index, sizeof(tmp), &tmp, type | byen);

    data = __le32_to_cpu(tmp);
    ...
    return (u16)data;
  }

  static void r8153_init(struct r8152 *tp)
  {
    ...
    if (test_bit(RTL8152_UNPLUG, &tp->flags))
      return;

    for (i = 0; i < 500; i++) {
      if (ocp_read_word(tp, MCU_TYPE_PLA, PLA_BOOT_CTRL) &
          AUTOLOAD_DONE)
        break;
      msleep(20);
    }
    ...
  }

Since ocp_read_word() doesn't check the return status of
generic_ocp_read(), and the only exit condition for the loop is to have
a match in the returned value, such loops will only ends after exceeding
its maximum runs when the device has been marked as disconnected, which
takes 500 * 20ms = 10 seconds in theory, 14 in practice.

To solve this long latency another test to RTL8152_UNPLUG flag should be
added after those 20ms sleep to skip unnecessary loops, so that the device
probe can complete early and proceed to parent port reset/reprobe process.

This can be reproduced on all kernel versions up to latest v5.6-rc2, but
after v5.5-rc7 the reproduce rate is dramatically lowered to 1/30 or less
while it was around 1/2.

Daniele Palmas eae7172f81 net: usb: qmi_wwan: restore mtu min/max values after raw_ip switch
usbnet creates network interfaces with min_mtu = 0 and
max_mtu = ETH_MAX_MTU.

These values are not modified by qmi_wwan when the network interface
is created initially, allowing, for example, to set mtu greater than 1500.

When a raw_ip switch is done (raw_ip set to 'Y', then set to 'N') the mtu
values for the network interface are set through ether_setup, with
min_mtu = ETH_MIN_MTU and max_mtu = ETH_DATA_LEN, not allowing anymore to
set mtu greater than 1500 (error: mtu greater than device maximum).

The patch restores the original min/max mtu values set by usbnet after a
raw_ip switch.

Gustavo A. R. Silva dc3cc347d2 net: usb: cdc-phonet: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:

struct foo {
        int stuff;
        struct boo array[];
};

Bjørn Mork 00516d13d4 qmi_wwan: unconditionally reject 2 ep interfaces
We have been using the fact that the QMI and DIAG functions
usually are the only ones with class/subclass/protocol being
ff/ff/ff on Quectel modems. This has allowed us to match the
QMI function without knowing the exact interface number,
which can vary depending on firmware configuration.

The ability to silently reject the DIAG function, which is
usually handled by the option driver, is important for this
method to work. This is done based on the knowledge that it
has exactly 2 bulk endpoints. QMI function control interfaces
will have either 3 or 1 endpoint. This rule is universal so
the quirk condition can be removed.

The fixed layouts known from the Gobi1k and Gobi2k modems
have been gradually replaced by more dynamic layouts, and
many vendors now use configurable layouts without changing
device IDs. Renaming the class/subclass/protocol matching
macro makes it more obvious that this is now not Quectel
specific anymore.

Bjørn Mork 88bf54603f qmi_wwan: re-add DW5821e pre-production variant
Commit f25e1392fd removed the support for the pre-production variant
of the Dell DW5821e to avoid probing another USB interface unnecessarily.
However, the pre-production samples are found in the wild, and this lack
of support is causing problems for users of such samples. It is therefore
necessary to support both variants.

Matching on both interfaces 0 and 1 is not expected to cause any problem
with either variant, as only the QMI function will be probed successfully
on either. Interface 1 will be rejected based on the HID class for the
production variant:

Eric Dumazet f8d7408a4d net: usb: lan78xx: limit size of local TSO packets
lan78xx_tx_bh() makes sure to not exceed MAX_SINGLE_PACKET_SIZE
bytes in the aggregated packets it builds, but does
nothing to prevent large GSO packets being submitted.

Pierre-Francois reported various hangs when/if TSO is enabled.

For localy generated packets, we can use netif_set_gso_max_size()
to limit the size of TSO packets.

Note that forwarded packets could still hit the issue,
so a complete fix might require implementing .ndo_features_check
for this driver, forcing a software segmentation if the size
of the TSO packet exceeds MAX_SINGLE_PACKET_SIZE.

Cristian Birsan 20032b6358 net: usb: lan78xx: Fix suspend/resume PHY register access error
Lan78xx driver accesses the PHY registers through MDIO bus over USB
connection. When performing a suspend/resume, the PHY registers can be
accessed before the USB connection is resumed. This will generate an
error and will prevent the device to resume correctly.
This patch adds the dependency between the MDIO bus and USB device to
allow correct handling of suspend/resume.

Hayes Wang 5b1d9c17a3 r8152: avoid to call napi_disable twice
Call napi_disable() twice would cause dead lock. There are three situations
may result in the issue.

1. rtl8152_pre_reset() and set_carrier() are run at the same time.
2. Call rtl8152_set_tunable() after rtl8152_close().
3. Call rtl8152_set_ringparam() after rtl8152_close().

For #1, use the same solution as commit 8481141246 ("r8152: Re-order
napi_disable in rtl8152_close"). For #2 and #3, add checking the flag
of IFF_UP and using napi_disable/napi_enable during mutex.

Prashant Malani 8481141246 r8152: Re-order napi_disable in rtl8152_close
Both rtl_work_func_t() and rtl8152_close() call napi_disable().
Since the two calls aren't protected by a lock, if the close
function starts executing before the work function, we can get into a
situation where the napi_disable() function is called twice in
succession (first by rtl8152_close(), then by set_carrier()).

In such a situation, the second call would loop indefinitely, since
rtl8152_close() doesn't call napi_enable() to clear the NAPI_STATE_SCHED
bit.

The rtl8152_close() function in turn issues a
cancel_delayed_work_sync(), and so it would wait indefinitely for the
rtl_work_func_t() to complete. Since rtl8152_close() is called by a
process holding rtnl_lock() which is requested by other processes, this
eventually leads to a system deadlock and crash.

Re-order the napi_disable() call to occur after the work function
disabling and urb cancellation calls are issued.

Hayes Wang af14288f94 r8152: support firmware of PHY NC for RTL8153A
Support the firmware of PHY NC which is used to fix the issue found
for PHY. Currently, only RTL_VER_04, RTL_VER_05, and RTL_VER_06 need
it.

The order of loading PHY firmware would be

	RTL_FW_PHY_START
	RTL_FW_PHY_NC
	RTL_FW_PHY_STOP

The RTL_FW_PHY_START/RTL_FW_PHY_STOP are used to lock/unlock the PHY,
and set/clear the patch key from the firmware file.

Kazutoshi Noguchi b306053197 r8152: add device id for Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2
This device is sold as 'ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS)'.
Chipset is RTL8153 and works with r8152.
Without this, the generic cdc_ether grabs the device, and the device jam
connected networks up when the machine suspends.

Andrew Lunn 38b4fe3201 net: usb: lan78xx: Connect PHY before registering MAC
As soon as the netdev is registers, the kernel can start using the
interface. If the driver connects the MAC to the PHY after the netdev
is registered, there is a race condition where the interface can be
opened without having the PHY connected.

Change the order to close this race condition.

Hayes Wang 9370f2d05a r8152: support request_firmware for RTL8153
This patch supports loading additional firmware file through
request_firmware().

A firmware file may include a header followed by several blocks
which have different types of firmware. Currently, the supported
types are RTL_FW_END, RTL_FW_PLA, and RTL_FW_USB.

The firmware is used to fix some compatible or hardware issues. For
example, the device couldn't be found after rebooting several times.

The supported chips are
	RTL_VER_04 (rtl8153a-2.fw)
	RTL_VER_05 (rtl8153a-3.fw)
	RTL_VER_06 (rtl8153a-4.fw)

Peter Fink 1635520aef net: usb: ax88179_178a: write mac to hardware in get_mac_addr
When the MAC address is supplied via device tree or a random
MAC is generated it has to be written to the asix chip in
order to receive any data.

Previously in 9fb137aef3 ("net: usb: ax88179_178a: allow
optionally getting mac address from device tree") this line was
omitted because it seemed to work perfectly fine without it.

But it was simply not detected because the chip keeps the mac
stored even beyond a reset and it was tested on a hardware
with an integrated UPS where the asix chip was permanently
powered on even throughout power cycles.
