Chuck Lever 19a648a075 NFSD: da_addr_body field missing in some GETDEVICEINFO replies
[ Upstream commit 6372e2ee62 ]

The XDR specification in RFC 8881 looks like this:

struct device_addr4 {
	layouttype4	da_layout_type;
	opaque		da_addr_body<>;
};

struct GETDEVICEINFO4resok {
	device_addr4	gdir_device_addr;
	bitmap4		gdir_notification;
};

union GETDEVICEINFO4res switch (nfsstat4 gdir_status) {
case NFS4_OK:
	GETDEVICEINFO4resok gdir_resok4;
case NFS4ERR_TOOSMALL:
	count4		gdir_mincount;
default:
	void;
};

Looking at nfsd4_encode_getdeviceinfo() ....

When the client provides a zero gd_maxcount, then the Linux NFS
server implementation encodes the da_layout_type field and then
skips the da_addr_body field completely, proceeding directly to
encode gdir_notification field.

There does not appear to be an option in the specification to skip
encoding da_addr_body. Moreover, Section 18.40.3 says:

> If the client wants to just update or turn off notifications, it
> MAY send a GETDEVICEINFO operation with gdia_maxcount set to zero.
> In that event, if the device ID is valid, the reply's da_addr_body
> field of the gdir_device_addr field will be of zero length.

Since the layout drivers are responsible for encoding the
da_addr_body field, put this fix inside the ->encode_getdeviceinfo
methods.

Christian Brauner c8fb97dd7f nfsd: use vfs setgid helper
commit 2d8ae8c417 upstream.

We've aligned setgid behavior over multiple kernel releases. The details
can be found in commit cf619f8919 ("Merge tag 'fs.ovl.setgid.v6.2' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/idmapping") and
commit 426b4ca2d6 ("Merge tag 'fs.setgid.v6.0' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brauner/linux").
Consistent setgid stripping behavior is now encapsulated in the
setattr_should_drop_sgid() helper which is used by all filesystems that
strip setgid bits outside of vfs proper. Usually ATTR_KILL_SGID is
raised in e.g., chown_common() and is subject to the
setattr_should_drop_sgid() check to determine whether the setgid bit can
be retained. Since nfsd is raising ATTR_KILL_SGID unconditionally it
will cause notify_change() to strip it even if the caller had the
necessary privileges to retain it. Ensure that nfsd only raises
ATR_KILL_SGID if the caller lacks the necessary privileges to retain the
setgid bit.

Without this patch the setgid stripping tests in LTP will fail:

> As you can see, the problem is S_ISGID (0002000) was dropped on a
> non-group-executable file while chown was invoked by super-user, while

[...]

> fchown02.c:66: TFAIL: testfile2: wrong mode permissions 0100700, expected 0102700

[...]

> chown02.c:57: TFAIL: testfile2: wrong mode permissions 0100700, expected 0102700

With this patch all tests pass.

Benjamin Coddington 711595bfdc nfsd: Fix race to FREE_STATEID and cl_revoked
commit 3b816601e2 upstream.

We have some reports of linux NFS clients that cannot satisfy a linux knfsd
server that always sets SEQ4_STATUS_RECALLABLE_STATE_REVOKED even though
those clients repeatedly walk all their known state using TEST_STATEID and
receive NFS4_OK for all.

Its possible for revoke_delegation() to set NFS4_REVOKED_DELEG_STID, then
nfsd4_free_stateid() finds the delegation and returns NFS4_OK to
FREE_STATEID. Afterward, revoke_delegation() moves the same delegation to
cl_revoked. This would produce the observed client/server effect.

Fix this by ensuring that the setting of sc_type to NFS4_REVOKED_DELEG_STID
and move to cl_revoked happens within the same cl_lock. This will allow
nfsd4_free_stateid() to properly remove the delegation from cl_revoked.

We don't need to call nfs_do_sb_deactive when nfs42_ssc_open

Jeff Layton 682a7d064f nfsd: fix handling of readdir in v4root vs. mount upcall timeout
commit cad853374d upstream.

If v4 READDIR operation hits a mountpoint and gets back an error,
then it will include that entry in the reply and set RDATTR_ERROR for it
to the error.

That's fine for "normal" exported filesystems, but on the v4root, we
need to be more careful to only expose the existence of dentries that
lead to exports.

If the mountd upcall times out while checking to see whether a
mountpoint on the v4root is exported, then we have no recourse other
than to fail the whole operation.

nfs4_show_open. This code has always tried to call fput while holding a
spinlock, but we recently changed this to use the filecache, and that
started triggering the might_sleep() in nfsd_file_put.

states_start takes and holds the cl_lock while iterating over the
client's states, and we can't sleep with that held.

Have the various nfs4_show_* functions instead hold the fi_lock instead
of taking a nfsd_file reference.

Amir Goldstein e1a4f5880d vfs: fix copy_file_range() averts filesystem freeze protection
commit 10bc8e4af6 upstream.

Commit 868f9f2f8e ("vfs: fix copy_file_range() regression in cross-fs
copies") removed fallback to generic_copy_file_range() for cross-fs
cases inside vfs_copy_file_range().

To preserve behavior of nfsd and ksmbd server-side-copy, the fallback to
generic_copy_file_range() was added in nfsd and ksmbd code, but that
call is missing sb_start_write(), fsnotify hooks and more.

Ideally, nfsd and ksmbd would pass a flag to vfs_copy_file_range() that
will take care of the fallback, but that code would be subtle and we got
vfs_copy_file_range() logic wrong too many times already.

Instead, add a flag to explicitly request vfs_copy_file_range() to
perform only generic_copy_file_range() and let nfsd and ksmbd use this
flag only in the fallback path.

This choise keeps the logic changes to minimum in the non-nfsd/ksmbd code
paths to reduce the risk of further regressions.

Dai Ngo 83b9496975 NFSD: fix use-after-free on source server when doing inter-server copy
[ Upstream commit 019805fea9 ]

Use-after-free occurred when the laundromat tried to free expired
cpntf_state entry on the s2s_cp_stateids list after inter-server
copy completed. The sc_cp_list that the expired copy state was
inserted on was already freed.

When COPY completes, the Linux client normally sends LOCKU(lock_state x),
FREE_STATEID(lock_state x) and CLOSE(open_state y) to the source server.
The nfs4_put_stid call from nfsd4_free_stateid cleans up the copy state
from the s2s_cp_stateids list before freeing the lock state's stid.

However, sometimes the CLOSE was sent before the FREE_STATEID request.
When this happens, the nfsd4_close_open_stateid call from nfsd4_close
frees all lock states on its st_locks list without cleaning up the copy
state on the sc_cp_list list. When the time the FREE_STATEID arrives the
server returns BAD_STATEID since the lock state was freed. This causes
the use-after-free error to occur when the laundromat tries to free
the expired cpntf_state.

This patch adds a call to nfs4_free_cpntf_statelist in
nfsd4_close_open_stateid to clean up the copy state before calling
free_ol_stateid_reaplist to free the lock state's stid on the reaplist.

[ Upstream commit 7518a3dc5e ]

If an NFS server returns NFS4ERR_RESOURCE on the first operation in

problem is and then simplify the compound to make forward progress.

So instead, make NFSD process as many operations in an oversized
COMPOUND as it can and then return NFS4ERR_RESOURCE on the first
operation it did not process.

pynfs NFSv4.0 COMP6 exercises this case, but checks only for the
COMPOUND status code, not whether the server has processed any
of the operations.

pynfs NFSv4.1 SEQ6 and SEQ7 exercise the NFSv4.1 case, which detects
too many operations per COMPOUND by checking against the limits
negotiated when the session was created.

Once an RPC Call has been received, svc_process() updates

A client can force this shrinkage on TCP by sending a correctly-

Jeff Layton 6a463eb6df nfsd: eliminate the NFSD_FILE_BREAK_* flags
commit 23ba98de6d upstream.

We had a report from the spring Bake-a-thon of data corruption in some
nfstest_interop tests. Looking at the traces showed the NFS server
allowing a v3 WRITE to proceed while a read delegation was still
outstanding.

Currently, we only set NFSD_FILE_BREAK_* flags if
NFSD_MAY_NOT_BREAK_LEASE was set when we call nfsd_file_alloc.
NFSD_MAY_NOT_BREAK_LEASE was intended to be set when finding files for
COMMIT ops, where we need a writeable filehandle but don't need to
break read leases.

It doesn't make any sense to consult that flag when allocating a file
since the file may be used on subsequent calls where we do want to break
the lease (and the usage of it here seems to be reverse from what it
should be anyway).

Also, after calling nfsd_open_break_lease, we don't want to clear the
BREAK_* bits. A lease could end up being set on it later (more than
once) and we need to be able to break those leases as well.

This means that the NFSD_FILE_BREAK_* flags now just mirror
NFSD_MAY_{READ,WRITE} flags, so there's no need for them at all. Just
drop those flags and unconditionally call nfsd_open_break_lease every
time.

Chuck Lever d6f1651ddf NFSD: COMMIT operations must not return NFS?ERR_INVAL
[ Upstream commit 3f965021c8 ]

Since, well, forever, the Linux NFS server's nfsd_commit() function
has returned nfserr_inval when the passed-in byte range arguments
were non-sensical.

However, according to RFC 1813 section 3.3.21, NFSv3 COMMIT requests
are permitted to return only the following non-zero status codes:

      NFS3ERR_IO
      NFS3ERR_STALE
      NFS3ERR_BADHANDLE
      NFS3ERR_SERVERFAULT

NFS3ERR_INVAL is not included in that list. Likewise, NFS4ERR_INVAL
is not listed in the COMMIT row of Table 6 in RFC 8881.

RFC 7530 does permit COMMIT to return NFS4ERR_INVAL, but does not
specify when it can or should be used.

Instead of dropping or failing a COMMIT request in a byte range that
is not supported, turn it into a valid request by treating one or
both arguments as zero. Offset zero means start-of-file, count zero
means until-end-of-file, so we only ever extend the commit range.
NFS servers are always allowed to commit more and sooner than
requested.

The range check is no longer bounded by NFS_OFFSET_MAX, but rather
by the value that is returned in the maxfilesize field of the NFSv3
FSINFO procedure or the NFSv4 maxfilesize file attribute.

Note that this change results in a new pynfs failure:

CMT4     st_commit.testCommitOverflow                             : RUNNING
CMT4     st_commit.testCommitOverflow                             : FAILURE
           COMMIT with offset + count overflow should return
           NFS4ERR_INVAL, instead got NFS4_OK

IMO the test is not correct as written: RFC 8881 does not allow the
COMMIT operation to return NFS4ERR_INVAL.

Amir Goldstein 4d5055873e vfs: fix copy_file_range() regression in cross-fs copies
commit 868f9f2f8e upstream.

A regression has been reported by Nicolas Boichat, found while using the
copy_file_range syscall to copy a tracefs file.

Before commit 5dae222a5f ("vfs: allow copy_file_range to copy across
devices") the kernel would return -EXDEV to userspace when trying to
copy a file across different filesystems. After this commit, the
syscall doesn't fail anymore and instead returns zero (zero bytes
copied), as this file's content is generated on-the-fly and thus reports
a size of zero.

Another regression has been reported by He Zhe - the assertion of
WARN_ON_ONCE(ret == -EOPNOTSUPP) can be triggered from userspace when
copying from a sysfs file whose read operation may return -EOPNOTSUPP.

Since we do not have test coverage for copy_file_range() between any two
types of filesystems, the best way to avoid these sort of issues in the
future is for the kernel to be more picky about filesystems that are
allowed to do copy_file_range().

This patch restores some cross-filesystem copy restrictions that existed
prior to commit 5dae222a5f ("vfs: allow copy_file_range to copy across
devices"), namely, cross-sb copy is not allowed for filesystems that do
not implement ->copy_file_range().

Filesystems that do implement ->copy_file_range() have full control of
the result - if this method returns an error, the error is returned to
the user. Before this change this was only true for fs that did not
implement the ->remap_file_range() operation (i.e.  nfsv3).

Filesystems that do not implement ->copy_file_range() still fall-back to
the generic_copy_file_range() implementation when the copy is within the
same sb. This helps the kernel can maintain a more consistent story
about which filesystems support copy_file_range().

nfsd and ksmbd servers are modified to fall-back to the
generic_copy_file_range() implementation in case vfs_copy_file_range()
fails with -EOPNOTSUPP or -EXDEV, which preserves behavior of
server-side-copy.

fall-back to generic_copy_file_range() is not implemented for the smb
operation FSCTL_DUPLICATE_EXTENTS_TO_FILE, which is arguably a correct
change of behavior.

nfsd4_release_lockowner() holds clp->cl_lock when it calls

nfsd_file_put() can sleep if the inode was recently removed.

Let's instead rely on the stateowner's reference count to gate
whether the release is permitted. This should be a reliable
indication of locks-in-use since file lock operations and
->lm_get_owner take appropriate references, which are released
appropriately when file locks are removed.

Chuck Lever 7260793c13 NFSD: Fix nfsd_breaker_owns_lease() return values
[ Upstream commit 50719bf344 ]

These have been incorrect since the function was introduced.

A proper kerneldoc comment is added since this function, though
static, is part of an external interface.

The nfsd file cache table can be pretty large and its allocation

J. Bruce Fields 4425ca3677 nfsd: fix crash on COPY_NOTIFY with special stateid
[ Upstream commit 074b07d94e ]

RTM says "If the special ONE stateid is passed to
nfs4_preprocess_stateid_op(), it returns status=0 but does not set
*cstid. nfsd4_copy_notify() depends on stid being set if status=0, and
thus can crash if the client sends the right COPY_NOTIFY RPC."

RFC 7862 says "The cna_src_stateid MUST refer to either open or locking
states provided earlier by the server. If it is invalid, then the
operation MUST fail."

The RFC doesn't specify an error, and the choice doesn't matter much as
this is clearly illegal client behavior, but bad_stateid seems
reasonable.

Simplest is just to guarantee that nfs4_preprocess_stateid_op, called
with non-NULL cstid, errors out if it can't return a stateid.

Chuck Lever 0f84cfb465 Revert "nfsd: skip some unnecessary stats in the v4 case"
[ Upstream commit 58f258f652 ]

On the wire, I observed NFSv4 OPEN(CREATE) operations sometimes
returning a reasonable-looking value in the cinfo.before field and
zero in the cinfo.after field.

RFC 8881 Section 10.8.1 says:
> When a client is making changes to a given directory, it needs to
> determine whether there have been changes made to the directory by
> other clients. It does this by using the change attribute as
> reported before and after the directory operation in the associated
> change_info4 value returned for the operation.

and

> ... The post-operation change
> value needs to be saved as the basis for future change_info4
> comparisons.

A good quality client implementation therefore saves the zero
cinfo.after value. During a subsequent OPEN operation, it will
receive a different non-zero value in the cinfo.before field for
that directory, and it will incorrectly believe the directory has
changed, triggering an undesirable directory cache invalidation.

There are filesystem types where fs_supports_change_attribute()
returns false, tmpfs being one. On NFSv4 mounts, this means the
fh_getattr() call site in fill_pre_wcc() and fill_post_wcc() is
never invoked. Subsequently, nfsd4_change_attribute() is invoked
with an uninitialized @stat argument.

In fill_pre_wcc(), @stat contains stale stack garbage, which is
then placed on the wire. In fill_post_wcc(), ->fh_post_wc is all
zeroes, so zero is placed on the wire. Both of these values are
meaningless.

This fix can be applied immediately to stable kernels. Once there
are more regression tests in this area, this optimization can be
attempted again.

Chuck Lever 3abe2a70f5 NFSD: Fix verifier returned in stable WRITEs
[ Upstream commit f11ad7aa65 ]

RFC 8881 explains the purpose of the write verifier this way:

> The final portion of the result is the field writeverf. This field
> is the write verifier and is a cookie that the client can use to
> determine whether a server has changed instance state (e.g., server
> restart) between a call to WRITE and a subsequent call to either
> WRITE or COMMIT.

But then it says:

> This cookie MUST be unchanged during a single instance of the
> NFSv4.1 server and MUST be unique between instances of the NFSv4.1
> server. If the cookie changes, then the client MUST assume that
> any data written with an UNSTABLE4 value for committed and an old
> writeverf in the reply has been lost and will need to be
> recovered.

RFC 1813 has similar language for NFSv3. NFSv2 does not have a write
verifier since it doesn't implement the COMMIT procedure.

Since commit 19e0663ff9 ("nfsd: Ensure sampling of the write
verifier is atomic with the write"), the Linux NFS server has
returned a boot-time-based verifier for UNSTABLE WRITEs, but a zero
verifier for FILE_SYNC and DATA_SYNC WRITEs. FILE_SYNC and DATA_SYNC
WRITEs are not followed up with a COMMIT, so there's no need for
clients to compare verifiers for stable writes.

However, by returning a different verifier for stable and unstable
writes, the above commit puts the Linux NFS server a step farther
out of compliance with the first MUST above. At least one NFS client
(FreeBSD) noticed the difference, making this a potential
regression.

Chuck Lever 384d1b1138 NFSD: Fix zero-length NFSv3 WRITEs
[ Upstream commit 6a2f774424 ]

The Linux NFS server currently responds to a zero-length NFSv3 WRITE
request with NFS3ERR_IO. It responds to a zero-length NFSv4 WRITE
with NFS4_OK and count of zero.

RFC 1813 says of the WRITE procedure's @count argument:

count
         The number of bytes of data to be written. If count is
         0, the WRITE will succeed and return a count of 0,
         barring errors due to permissions checking.

RFC 8881 has similar language for NFSv4, though NFSv4 removed the
explicit @count argument because that value is already contained in
the opaque payload array.

The synthetic client pynfs's WRT4 and WRT15 tests do emit zero-
length WRITEs to exercise this spec requirement. Commit fdec6114ee
("nfsd4: zero-length WRITE should succeed") addressed the same
problem there with the same fix.

But interestingly the Linux NFS client does not appear to emit zero-
length WRITEs, instead squelching them. I'm not aware of a test that
can generate such WRITEs for NFSv3, so I wrote a naive C program to
generate a zero-length WRITE and test this fix.

Chuck Lever 2de88544b3 NFSD: Have legacy NFSD WRITE decoders use xdr_stream_subsegment()
[ Upstream commit dae9a6cab8 ]

Refactor.

Now that the NFSv2 and NFSv3 XDR decoders have been converted to
use xdr_streams, the WRITE decoder functions can use
xdr_stream_subsegment() to extract the WRITE payload into its own
xdr_buf, just as the NFSv4 WRITE XDR decoder currently does.

That makes it possible to pass the first kvec, pages array + length,
page_base, and total payload length via a single function parameter.

The payload's page_base is not yet assigned or used, but will be in
subsequent patches.

Chuck Lever c6eff5c427 NFSD: Fix the behavior of READ near OFFSET_MAX
commit 0cb4d23ae0 upstream.

Dan Aloni reports:

The Linux NFS client does not handle NFS?ERR_INVAL, even though all
NFS specifications permit servers to return that status code for a
READ.

Instead of NFS?ERR_INVAL, have out-of-range READ requests succeed
and return a short result. Set the EOF flag in the result to prevent
the client from retrying the READ request. This behavior appears to
be consistent with Solaris NFS servers.

Note that NFSv3 and NFSv4 use u64 offset values on the wire. These
must be converted to loff_t internally before use -- an implicit
type cast is not adequate for this purpose. Otherwise VFS checks
against sb->s_maxbytes do not work properly.
