Raviteja Narayanam 6d8ffbe661 i2c: xiic: Add SCL frequency configuration support
From 'clock-frequency' device tree property, configure I2C SCL
frequency by calculating the timing register values according to
input clock.

After soft reset in reinit function, the timing registers are set
to default values (configured in design tool). So, setting SCL
frequency is done inside reinit function after the soft reset.
This allows configuration of SCL frequency exclusively through
software via device tree property, overriding the design.
If the clock-frequency parameter is not specified in DT, driver
doesn't configure frequency, making it backward compatible.

Xilinx AXI I2C IP is updated with a bug fix for dynamic mode reads.
Older IPs are handled with a workaround in which they are using
xiic standard mode for all these effected use cases.

Raviteja Narayanam 317b56c9aa i2c: xiic: Add wait for FIFO empty in send_tx
If the tx_half_empty interrupt comes first instead of tx_empty,
STOP bit is generated even before all the bytes are transmitted
out on the bus.
STOP bit should be sent only after all the bytes in the FIFO are
transmitted out of the FIFO. So wait until FIFO is empty before sending
the STOP bit.

Raviteja Narayanam 2fd5cf352e i2c: xiic: Switch to Xiic standard mode for i2c-read
Xilinx I2C IP has two modes of operation, both of which implement
I2C transactions. The only difference from sw perspective is the
programming sequence for these modes.
Dynamic mode  -> Simple to program, less number of steps in sequence.
Standard mode -> Gives flexibility, more number of steps in sequence.

In dynamic mode, during the i2c-read transactions, if there is a
delay(> 200us) between the register writes (address & byte count),
read transaction fails. On a system with load, this scenario is
occurring frequently.
To avoid this, switch to standard mode if there is a read request.

Added a quirk to identify the IP version effected by this and follow
the standard mode.

Raviteja Narayanam 813eac4fcb i2c: xiic: Fix Rx and Tx paths in standard mode
repeated start

When a combined message request comes from user space, the
controller has to initiate repeated start sequence. In standard
mode, this repeated start sequence is corrupted if there is still
data in the Tx FIFO.

So, always make sure that all the bytes are completely transmitted
out of the FIFO by waiting for TXEMPTY, if the previous message is
of Tx type.

Raviteja Narayanam acea4e4458 i2c: xiic: Add standard mode support for > 255 byte
read transfers

Added standard mode for AXI I2C controller to enable read transfers
of size more than 255 bytes. The driver selects standard mode in the
following scenarios.

1. If a single message request comes from user space, requesting a
read of more than 255 bytes

2. If a message set request comes from user space consisting of many
messages and if any one of them is a read operation, irrespective
of the size of transfer. (This is done because it is observed that
repeated start operation is not happening in dynamic mode read as
expected in a message set request from user space.)

Uwe Kleine-König 810199f731 i2c: xiic: Make sure to disable clock on .remove()
If for whatever reasons pm_runtime_resume_and_get() failed, .remove() is
exited early, the clock isn't freed and runtime PM state isn't reset.

The right thing to do however is to free all resources that don't need
HW access after a problem with runtime PM. Also issue a warning in that
case and return 0 to suppress a less helpful warning by the driver core.

Raviteja Narayanam 4bca93abff i2c: xiic: Fix Tx Interrupt path for grouped messages
When a group of messages are sent from user space as a set, if
the last message has less than Tx FIFO DEPTH number of bytes
to transfer, Tx half empty interrupt is triggered continuously
from the hardware. It is due to Bus not busy interrupt coming
along with Tx half empty and tx empty.

Hence, service the Tx interrupts before Bus not busy interrupt
to update the i2c message status correctly.

Robert Hancock 1d366c2f9d i2c: xiic: Make bus names unique
This driver is for an FPGA logic core, so there can be arbitrarily many
instances of the bus on a given system. Previously all of the I2C bus
names were "xiic-i2c" which caused issues with lm_sensors when trying to
map human-readable names to sensor inputs because it could not properly
distinguish the busses, for example. Append the platform device name to
the I2C bus name so it is unique between different instances.

Transferring multiple messages via XIIC suffers from strange interaction
between the interrupt status/enable register flags. These flags are being
reused in the hardware to indicate different things for read and write
transfer, and doing multiple transactions becomes horribly complex. Just
send a single transaction and reload the controller with another message
once the transaction is done in the interrupt handler thread.

The __xiic_start_xfer() manipulates the interrupt flags, xiic_wakeup()
may result in return from xiic_xfer() early. Defer both to the end of
the xiic_process() interrupt thread, so that they are executed after
all the other interrupt bits handling completed and once it completely
safe to perform changes to the interrupt bits in the hardware.

The interrupt handler is missing locking when reading out registers
and is racing with other threads which might access the driver. Drop
it altogether, so that the threaded interrupt is always executed, as
that one is already serialized by the driver mutex. This also allows
dropping local_irq_save()/local_irq_restore() in xiic_start_recv().

Qinglang Miao a85c5c7a3a i2c: xiic: fix reference leak when pm_runtime_get_sync fails
The PM reference count is not expected to be incremented on
return in xiic_xfer and xiic_i2c_remove.

However, pm_runtime_get_sync will increment the PM reference
count even failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result
in a reference leak here.

Replace it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage
counter balanced.

Jaakko Laine 9e3b184b3b i2c: xiic: Support forcing single-master in DT
I2C master operating in multimaster mode can get stuck
indefinitely if I2C start is detected on bus, but no master
has a transaction going.

This is a weakness in I2C standard, which defines no way
to recover, since all masters are indefinitely disallowed
from interrupting the currently operating master. A start
condition can be created for example by an electromagnetic
discharge applied near physical I2C lines. Or a already
operating master could get reset immediately after sending
a start.

If it is known during device tree creation that only a single
I2C master will be present on the bus, this deadlock of the
I2C bus could be avoided in the driver by ignoring the
bus_is_busy register of the xiic, since bus can never be
reserved by any other master.

This patch adds this support for detecting single-master flag
in device tree and when provided, improves I2C reliability by
ignoring the therefore unnecessary xiic bus_is_busy register.

Error can be reproduced by pulling I2C SDA -line temporarily low
by shorting it to ground, while linux I2C master is operating on
it using the xiic driver. The application using the bus will
start receiving linux error code 16: "Device or resource busy"
indefinitely:

kernel: pca953x 0-0020: failed writing register
app: Error writing file, error: 16

With multi-master disabled device will instead receive error
code 5: "I/O error" while SDA is grounded, but recover normal
operation once short is removed.

app: Error reading file, error: 5

Robert Hancock 49b8095867 i2c: xiic: Add max_read_len quirk
This driver does not support reading more than 255 bytes at once because
the register for storing the number of bytes to read is only 8 bits. Add
a max_read_len quirk to enforce this.

This was found when using this driver with the SFP driver, which was
previously reading all 256 bytes in the SFP EEPROM in one transaction.
This caused a bunch of hard-to-debug errors in the xiic driver since the
driver/logic was treating the number of bytes to read as zero.
Rejecting transactions that aren't supported at least allows the problem
to be diagnosed more easily.

Shubhrajyoti Datta ae7304c3ea i2c: xiic: Make the start and the byte count write atomic
Disable interrupts while configuring the transfer and enable them back.

We have below as the programming sequence
1. start and slave address
2. byte count and stop

In some customer platform there was a lot of interrupts between 1 and 2
and after slave address (around 7 clock cyles) if 2 is not executed
then the transaction is nacked.

To fix this case make the 2 writes atomic.

Peter Rosin 30a6475744 i2c: busses: make use of i2c_8bit_addr_from_msg
Because it looks neater.

For diolan, this allows factoring out some code that is now common
between if and else.

For eg20t, pch_i2c_writebytes is always called with a write in
msgs->flags, and pch_i2c_readbytes with a read.

For imx, i2c_imx_dma_write and i2c_imx_write are always called with a
write in msgs->flags, and i2c_imx_read with a read.

For qup, qup_i2c_write_tx_fifo_v1 is always called with a write in
qup->msg->flags.

For stu300, also restructure debug output for resends, since that
code as a result is only handling debug output.

Masahiro Yamada 9242e72aae i2c: use dev_get_drvdata() to get private data in suspend/resume hooks
Several drivers call to_platform_device() to get platform_device
and pass it to platform_get_drvdata().  In platform_get_drvdata(),
the platform_device is converted back to struct device again.

Use dev_get_drvdata() to avoid platform_device/device dance.

Prior to commit e6c9a037bc ("i2c: xiic: Remove the disabling of
interrupts") IRQs where disabled when the initial __xiic_start_xfer() was

The issue can easily be reproduced by performing I2C access under high
system load or IO load.

To fix the issue protect the invocation to __xiic_start_xfer() form
xiic_start_xfer() with the same lock that is used to protect the interrupt
handler.

Lars-Peter Clausen 9656eeebf3 i2c: Revert "i2c: xiic: Do not reset controller before every transfer"
Commit d701667bb3 ("i2c: xiic: Do not reset controller before every
transfer") removed the reinitialization of the controller before the start
of each transfer. Apparently this change is not safe to make and the commit
results in random I2C bus failures.

An easy way to trigger the issue is to run i2cdetect.

Without the patch applied:
