Grygorii Strashko 2ae136a34f gpio: omap: handle deferred probe with dev_err_probe() for gpiochip_add_data()
The gpiochip_add_data() may return -EPROBE_DEFER which is not handled
properly by TI GPIO driver and causes unnecessary boot log messages.

Hence, add proper deferred probe handling with new dev_err_probe() API.

Damien Le Moal 7d3615ae40 gpio: dwapb: Remove unnecessary error message
In dwapb_get_reset(), if devm_reset_control_get_optional_shared() fails,
an error message is printed even if the failure is the benign
EPROBE_DEFER error due to the reset controller not yet being
initialized. Use dev_err_probe() to handle
devm_reset_control_get_optional_shared() errors to avoid unnecessarilly
printing an error message for the deferred probe error.

We can simplify the code in gpio-exar by using regmap. This allows us to
drop the mutex (regmap provides its own locking) and we can also reuse

Bartosz Golaszewski 8e27c2aef8 gpio: exar: switch to a simpler IDA interface
We don't need to specify any ranges when allocating IDs so we can switch
to ida_alloc() and ida_free() instead of the ida_simple_ counterparts.

ida_simple_get(ida, 0, 0, gfp) is equivalent to
ida_alloc_range(ida, 0, UINT_MAX, gfp) which is equivalent to
ida_alloc(ida, gfp). Note: IDR will never actually allocate an ID
larger than INT_MAX.

Vasile-Laurentiu Stanimir 56f7058af0 gpiolib: acpi: Set initial value for output pin based on bias and polarity
GpioIo() resources don't contain an initial value for the output pin.
Therefore instead of deducting its value solely based on bias field
we should deduce that value from the polarity and the bias fields.
Typical scenario is, when pin is defined in the table and its polarity,
specified in _DSD or via platform code, is defined as active low,
in the following call chain:

  -> acpi_populate_gpio_lookup()
     -> acpi_gpio_to_gpiod_flags()

it will return GPIOD_OUT_HIGH if bias is set no matter if polarity
is GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW, so it will return the current level instead of
the logical level.

Dmitry Osipenko 37174f3341 gpio: tegra: Use raw_spinlock
Use raw_spinlock in order to fix spurious messages about invalid context
when spinlock debugging is enabled. This happens because there is a legit
nested raw_spinlock->spinlock locking usage within IRQ-related code. IRQ
core uses raw spinlock and then Tegra GPIO driver uses a nested spinlock.
The debug code can't recognize and handle this case, hence we need to use
raw spinlock in the GPIO driver.

Kent Gibson 1f5eb8b17f gpiolib: fix sysfs when cdev is not selected
In gpiochip_setup_dev() the call to gpiolib_cdev_register() indirectly
calls device_add().  This is still required for the sysfs even when
CONFIG_GPIO_CDEV is not selected in the build.

Replace the stubbed functions in gpiolib-cdev.h with macros in gpiolib.c
that perform the required device_add() and device_del() when
CONFIG_GPIO_CDEV is not selected.

Tony Lindgren 7ffa081698 Revert "Revert "gpio: omap: Fix lost edge wake-up interrupts""
This reverts commit 579ced8fdb.

Turns out I was overly optimistic about cpu_pm blocking idle being a
solution for handling edge interrupts. While it helps in preventing
entering idle states that potentially lose context, we can still get
an edge interrupt triggering while entering idle. So we need to also
add back the workaround for seeing if there are any pending edge
interrupts when waking up.

Linus Walleij f1f37abbe6 gpio: Retire the explicit gpio irqchip code
Now that all gpiolib irqchip users have been over to use
the irqchip template, we can finally retire the old code
path and leave just one way in to the irqchip: set up the
template when registering the gpio_chip. For a while
we had two code paths for this which was a bit confusing.

This brings this work to a conclusion, there is now one
way of doing this.

Kent Gibson 3ffb7c45d1 gpiolib: cdev: document that line eflags are shared
The line.eflags field is shared so document this fact and highlight it
throughout using READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE() accessors.

Also use a local copy of the eflags in edge_irq_thread() to ensure
consistent control flow even if eflags changes.  This is only a defensive
measure as edge_irq_thread() is currently disabled when the eflags are
changed.

   - The big core change is the updated (v2) userspace character device
     API.

     This corrects badly designed 64-bit alignment around the line
     events. We also add the debounce request feature. This echoes the
     often quotes passage from Frederick Brooks "The mythical man-month"
     to always throw one away, which we have seen before in things such
     as V4L2. So we put in a new one and deprecate and obsolete the old
     one.

   - All example tools in tools/gpio/* are migrated to the new API to
     set a good example. The libgpiod userspace library has been

     IRQ handling in the gpiolib core.

   - The mockup and aggregator drivers have seen some substantial code
     clean-up and now use more of the core kernel inftrastructure.

   - Misc cleanups using dev_err_probe().

   - The MXC drivers (Freescale/NXP) can now be built modularized, which
     makes modularized GKI Android kernels happy"

Kent Gibson f188ac1251 gpiolib: cdev: switch from kstrdup() to kstrndup()
Use kstrndup() to copy line labels from the userspace provided char
array, rather than ensuring the char array contains a null terminator
and using kstrdup().

Note that the length provided to kstrndup() still assumes that the char
array does contain a null terminator, so the maximum string length is one
less than the array.  This is consistent with the previous behaviour.

Marc Zyngier 8b81edd80b gpio: pca953x: Survive spurious interrupts
The pca953x driver never checks the result of irq_find_mapping(),
which returns 0 when no mapping is found. When a spurious interrupt
is delivered (which can happen under obscure circumstances), the
kernel explodes as it still tries to handle the error code as
a real interrupt.

Handle this particular case and warn on spurious interrupts.

Andy Shevchenko 8c1f1c3477 gpio: pca953x: Correctly initialize registers 6 and 7 for PCA957x
When driver has been converted to the bitmap API the non-bitmap functions
started behaving differently on 32-bit BE architectures since the bytes in
two consequent unsigned longs are in different order in comparison to byte
array. Hence if the chip had had more than 32 lines the memset() call over
it would have not set up upper lines correctly.
Although it's currently a theoretical case (no supported chips of this type
has 32+ lines), it's better to provide a clean code to avoid people thinking
this is okay and potentially producing not fully working things.

Kent Gibson 65cff70464 gpiolib: cdev: support setting debounce
Add support for setting debounce on a line via the GPIO uAPI.
Where debounce is not supported by hardware, a software debounce is
provided.

The implementation of the software debouncer waits for the line to be
stable for the debounce period before determining if a level change,
and a corresponding edge event, has occurred.  This provides maximum
protection against glitches, but also introduces a debounce_period
latency to edge events.

The software debouncer is integrated with the edge detection as it
utilises the line interrupt, and integration is simpler than getting
the two to interwork.  Where software debounce AND edge detection is
required, the debouncer provides both.

The edge_detector implementation is based on the v1 lineevent

The core of this change is the event kfifo switching to contain
struct gpioline_info_changed_v2, instead of v1 as v2 is richer.

The two uAPI versions are mostly independent - other than where they both
provide line info changes via reads on the chip fd.  As the info change
structs differ between v1 and v2, the infowatch implementation tracks which
version of the infowatch ioctl, either GPIO_GET_LINEINFO_WATCH_IOCTL or
GPIO_V2_GET_LINEINFO_WATCH_IOCTL, initiates the initial watch and returns
the corresponding info change struct to the read.  The version supported
on that fd locks to that version on the first watch request, so subsequent
watches from that process must use the same uAPI version.

While we do check the "chip-name" property in probe(), we never actually
use it. Let's pass the chip label to the driver using device properties
as we'll want to allow users to define their own once dynamically
created chips are supported.

The property is renamed to "chip-label" to not cause any confusion with
the actual chip name which is of the form: "gpiochipX".

If the "chip-label" property is missing, let's do what most devices in
drivers/gpio/ do and use dev_name().

Anson Huang 12d16b397c gpio: mxc: Support module build
Change config to tristate, add module device table, module author,
description and license to support module build for i.MX GPIO driver.

As this is a SoC GPIO module, it provides common functions for most
of the peripheral devices, such as GPIO pins control, secondary
interrupt controller for GPIO pins IRQ etc., without GPIO driver, most
of the peripheral devices will NOT work properly, so GPIO module is
similar with clock, pinctrl driver that should be loaded ONCE and
never unloaded.

Since MXC GPIO driver needs to have init function to register syscore
ops once, here still use subsys_initcall(), NOT module_platform_driver().

GPIO_U is mapped to the least significant byte of input/output mask, and
the byte in "output" mask should be 0 because GPIO_U is input only. All
the other bits need to be 1 because GPIO_V/W/X support both input and

Similarly, GPIO_Y/Z are mapped to the 2 least significant bytes, and the
according bits need to be 1 because GPIO_Y/Z support both input and

Currently, the IRQ setup for the SGPIO driver enables all interrupts in
dual-edge trigger mode. Since the default handler is handle_bad_irq, any
state change on input GPIOs will trigger bad IRQ warnings.

This change applies sensible IRQ defaults: single-edge trigger, and all
IRQs disabled.

Jeremy Kerr ac67b07e26 gpio/aspeed-sgpio: enable access to all 80 input & output sgpios
Currently, the aspeed-sgpio driver exposes up to 80 GPIO lines,
corresponding to the 80 status bits available in hardware. Each of these
lines can be configured as either an input or an output.

However, each of these GPIOs is actually an input *and* an output; we
actually have 80 inputs plus 80 outputs.

This change expands the maximum number of GPIOs to 160; the lower half
of this range are the input-only GPIOs, the upper half are the outputs.
We fix the GPIO directions to correspond to this mapping.

This also fixes a bug when setting GPIOs - we were reading from the
input register, making it impossible to set more than one output GPIO.

The introduced line event handling ABI in the commit

  61f922db72 ("gpio: userspace ABI for reading GPIO line events")

missed the fact that 64-bit kernel may serve for 32-bit applications.
In such case the very first check in the lineevent_read() will fail
due to alignment differences.

To workaround this introduce lineevent_get_size() helper which returns actual
size of the structure in user space.

Taiping Lai 5fcface659 gpio: sprd: Clear interrupt when setting the type as edge
The raw interrupt status of GPIO maybe set before the interrupt is enabled,
which would trigger the interrupt event once enabled it from user side.
This is the case for edge interrupts only. Adding a clear operation when
setting interrupt type can avoid that.

There're a few considerations for the solution:
1) This issue is for edge interrupt only; The interrupts requested by users
   are IRQ_TYPE_LEVEL_HIGH as default, so clearing interrupt when request
   is useless.
2) The interrupt type can be set to edge when request and following up
   with clearing it though, but the problem is still there once users set
   the interrupt type to level trggier.
3) We can add a clear operation after each time of setting interrupt
   enable bit, but it is redundant for level trigger interrupt.

Therefore, the solution is this patch seems the best for now.

Serge Semin feeaefd378 gpio: dwapb: Use resource managed GPIO-chip add data method
Since the resource managed version of gpiochip_add_data() will handle the
GPIO-chip data automated cleanup we can freely remove the DW APB GPIO
driver code responsible for that. After doing so the DW APB GPIO driver
removal callback can be also fully discarded since there is nothing left
to be done for it. All the cleanups are now performed by means of the
device managed framework.

Serge Semin 0ea683931a gpio: dwapb: Convert driver to using the GPIO-lib-based IRQ-chip
GPIO-lib provides a ready-to-use interface to initialize an IRQ-chip on
top of a GPIO chip. It's better from maintainability and readability
point of view to use one instead of supporting a hand-written Generic
IRQ-chip-based implementation. Moreover the new implementation won't
cause much functional overhead but will provide a cleaner driver code.
All of that makes the DW APB GPIO driver conversion pretty much justified
especially seeing a tendency of the other GPIO drivers getting converted
too.

Here is what we do in the framework of this commit to convert the driver
to using the GPIO-lib-based IRQ-chip interface:

1) IRQ ack, mask and unmask callbacks are locally defined instead of
using the Generic IRQ-chip ones.

2) An irq_chip structure instance is embedded into the dwapb_gpio
private data. Note we can't have a static instance of that structure since
GPIO-lib will add some hooks into it by calling gpiochip_set_irq_hooks().
A warning about that would have been printed by the GPIO-lib code if we
used a single irq_chip structure instance for multiple DW APB GPIO
controllers.

3) Initialize the gpio_irq_chip structure embedded into the gpio_chip
descriptor. By default there is no IRQ enabled so any event raised will be
handled by the handle_bad_irq() IRQ flow handler. If DW APB GPIO IP-core
is synthesized to have non-shared reference IRQ-lines, then as before the
hierarchical and cascaded cases are distinguished by checking how many
parental IRQs are defined. (Note irq_set_chained_handler_and_data() won't
initialize IRQs, which descriptors couldn't be found.) If DW APB GPIO IP
is used on a platform with shared IRQ line, then we simply won't let the
GPIO-lib to initialize the parental IRQs, but will handle them locally in
the driver.

4) Discard linear IRQ-domain and Generic IRQ-chip initialization, since
GPIO-lib IRQ-chip interface will create a new domain and accept a standard
IRQ-chip structure pointer based on the setting we provided in the
gpio_irq_chip structure.

5) Manually select a proper IRQ flow handler directly in the
irq_set_type() callback by calling irq_set_handler_locked() method, since
an ordinary (not Generic) irq_chip descriptor is now utilized. Note this
shalln't give any regression

6) Alter CONFIG_GPIO_DWAPB kernel config to select
CONFIG_GPIOLIB_IRQCHIP instead of CONFIG_GENERIC_IRQ_CHIP.

Note neither 4) nor 5) shall cause a regression of commit 6a2f4b7dad
("gpio: dwapb: use a second irq chip"), since the later isn't properly
used here anyway.

Serge Semin 7569486d79 gpio: dwapb: Add ngpios DT-property support
Indeed generic GPIO DT-schema implies that number of GPIOs should be
described by the "ngpios" property located under a GPIO-provider DT node.
In that case it's redundant to have a vendor-specific "snps,nr-gpios"
property describing the same setting. Moreover it might be errors prone.

Since commit 93d2e4322a ("of: platform: Batch fwnode parsing when adding
all top level devices") the fwnode parsing is resumed after the vast
majority of the platform devices are added. Implicitly that commit
activates re-parsing of the whole device tree GPIOs-phandle properties
detected having "-gpio/-gpios" suffixes. Since the vendor-specific number
of GPIOs property is defined with "-gpios" suffix, then of_link_property()
will consider it as a suffix-property with "#gpio-cells" structure, which
obviously it doesn't have. As a result for two DW APB GPIO controllers
we'll have the next errors printed.

See, the kernel fwnode parsing procedure even tried to resolve the phandle
ID, which it thought was the opp-table DT-node, while in fact it was just
a number "32". What would happen if that magic number actually referred to
a GPIO DT-node with "#gpio-cells" property defined?..

In order to fix the problem let's mark the "snps,nr-gpios" property as
deprecated and add the generic "ngpios" property support with the same
purpose as the deprecated one. That and the errors log above shall
motivate the platform developer to convert the DW APB GPIO DT-nodes to
using the standard number of GPIOs property.

Ar10 (xr300) has 3 and grx390 (xrx330) has 4 built-in GPHY. PHY LEDs are
connected via STP. STP is a peripheral controller used to drive external
shift register cascades. The hardware is able to allow the GPHY to drive
some GPIO of the cascade automatically.This patch allows for this on ar10
and grx390.

Tested on D-Link DWR-966 with OpenWRT.

Ahmad Fatoum 5f402bb175 gpio: don't use same lockdep class for all devm_gpiochip_add_data users
Commit 959bc7b22b ("gpio: Automatically add lockdep keys") documents
in its commits message its intention to "create a unique class key for
each driver".

It does so by having gpiochip_add_data add in-place the definition of
two static lockdep classes for LOCKDEP use. That way, every caller of
the macro adds their gpiochip with unique lockdep classes.

There are many indirect callers of gpiochip_add_data, however, via
use of devm_gpiochip_add_data. devm_gpiochip_add_data has external
linkage and all its users will share the same lockdep classes, which
probably is not intended.

Fix this by replicating the gpio_chip_add_data statics-in-macro for
the devm_ version as well.

spi: ppc4xx: Convert to use GPIO descriptors
This converts the PPC4xx SPI driver to use GPIO descriptors.

The driver is already just picking some GPIOs from the device
tree so the conversion is pretty straight forward. However
this driver is looking form a pure "gpios" property rather
than the standard binding "cs-gpios" so we need to add a new
exception to the gpiolib OF parser to allow this for this
driver's compatibles.

Modify omap_gpio_set_config() to handle pin config bias flags by calling
gpiochip_generic_config().

The pin group for the gpio line must have the corresponding pinconf
properties:

PIN_CONFIG_BIAS_PULL_UP requires "pinctrl-single,bias-pullup"
PIN_CONFIG_BIAS_PULL_DOWN requires "pinctrl-single,bias-pulldown"

This is necessary for pcs_pinconf_set() to find the requested bias
parameter in the PIN_MAP_TYPE_CONFIGS_GROUP pinctrl map.

Most other drivers fill out the gpio_irq_chip using a
struct gpio_irq_chip *girq helper variable for ease of
reading.

We also make a habit of explicitly assigning NULL and
zero to the parent IRQs when using ordinary IRQ handlers
in the driver, mostly for code readability and
maintenance.

Dmitry Osipenko e6827bc3fa gpio: max77620: Initialize hardware state of interrupts
I noticed on Nexus 7 that after rebooting from downstream kernel to
upstream, the GPIO interrupt is triggering non-stop despite interrupts
being disabled for all of GPIOs. This happens because Nexus 7 uses a
soft-reboot, meaning that bootloader should take care of resetting
hardware, but the bootloader doesn't do it well. As a result, GPIO
interrupt may be left ON at a boot time. Let's mask all GPIO interrupts
at the driver's initialization time in order to resolve the issue.

Dmitry Osipenko 15d9e7e847 gpio: max77620: Use irqchip template
This change addresses one of the GPIO-core TODOs for the MAX77620 driver
which requires modern drivers to use the irqchip template. Instead of
using the GPIO's irqchip-helpers for creating the IRQ domain, the
gpio_irq_chip structure is now filled by the driver itself and then
gpiochip_add_data() takes care of instantiating the IRQ domain for us.

Dmitry Osipenko 78934d885e gpio: max77620: Don't set of_node
The gpiochip_add_data() takes care of setting the of_node to the parent's
device of_node, hence there is no need to do it manually in the driver's
code. This patch corrects the parent's device pointer and removes the
unnecessary setting of the of_node.

Kent Gibson 1bf7ba4001 gpiolib: cdev: remove recalculation of offset
Remove recalculation of offset from desc, where desc itself was calculated
from offset.

There is no benefit from the desc -> hwgpio conversion in this context.
The only implicit benefit of the offset -> desc -> hwgpio is
the range check in the offset -> desc, but where desc is required you
still get that, and where desc isn't required it is simpler to perform
the range check directly.

Kent Gibson f30ef3e837 gpiolib: cdev: fix minor race in GET_LINEINFO_WATCH
Merge separate usage of test_bit/set_bit into test_and_set_bit to remove
the possibility of a race between the test and set.

Similarly test_bit and clear_bit.

In the existing code it is possible for two threads to race past the
test_bit and then set or clear the watch bit, and neither return EBUSY.

The name "priv" indicates that the object is pointed to by

Kent Gibson 6accc376a7 gpiolib: cdev: use blocking notifier call chain instead of atomic
Replace usage of atomic_notifier_call_chain with
blocking_notifier_call_chain as the notifier function,
lineinfo_changed_notify, calls gpio_desc_to_lineinfo,
which calls pinctrl_gpio_can_use_line, which can sleep.

The chain isn't being called from an atomic context so the
the blocking notifier is a suitable substitute.

Refactor the mapping from handle flags to desc flags into a helper
function.

The assign_bit is overkill where it is replacing the set_bit cases, as is
rechecking bits known to be clear in some circumstances, but the DRY
simplification more than makes up for any performance degradation,
especially as this is not a hot path.

Kent Gibson ef087d8e95 gpiolib: move gpiolib-sysfs function declarations into their own header
Move gpiolib-sysfs function declarations into their own header.

These functions are in gpiolib-sysfs.c, and are only required by gpiolib.c,
and so should be in a module header, not gpiolib.h.

This brings gpiolib-sysfs into line with gpiolib-cdev, and is another step
towards removing the sysfs inferface.
