Al Viro 71d8e532b1 start adding the tag to iov_iter
For now, just use the same thing we pass to ->direct_IO() - it's all
iovec-based at the moment. Pass it explicitly to iov_iter_init() and
account for kvec vs. iovec in there, by the same kludge NFS ->direct_IO()
uses.

Michael Opdenacker 1f80c0cc39 cif: fix dead code
This issue was found by Coverity (CID 1202536)

This proposes a fix for a statement that creates dead code.
The "rc < 0" statement is within code that is run
with "rc > 0".

It seems like "err < 0" was meant to be used here.
This way, the error code is returned by the function.

Jeff Layton bae9f746a1 cifs: fix error handling cifs_user_readv
Coverity says:

2867     		cur_len = min_t(const size_t, len - total_read, cifs_sb->rsize);

...when we "goto error", rc will be non-zero, and then we end up trying
to do a kref_put on the rdata (which is NULL). Fix this by replacing
the "goto error" with a "break".

Sachin Prabhu c11f1df500 cifs: Wait for writebacks to complete before attempting write.
Problem reported in Red Hat bz 1040329 for strict writes where we cache
only when we hold oplock and write direct to the server when we don't.

When we receive an oplock break, we first change the oplock value for
the inode in cifsInodeInfo->oplock to indicate that we no longer hold
the oplock before we enqueue a task to flush changes to the backing
device. Once we have completed flushing the changes, we return the
oplock to the server.

There are 2 ways here where we can have data corruption
1) While we flush changes to the backing device as part of the oplock
break, we can have processes write to the file. These writes check for
the oplock, find none and attempt to write directly to the server.
These direct writes made while we are flushing from cache could be
overwritten by data being flushed from the cache causing data
corruption.
2) While a thread runs in cifs_strict_writev, the machine could receive
and process an oplock break after the thread has checked the oplock and
found that it allows us to cache and before we have made changes to the
cache. In that case, we end up with a dirty page in cache when we
shouldn't have any. This will be flushed later and will overwrite all
subsequent writes to the part of the file represented by this page.

Before making any writes to the server, we need to confirm that we are
not in the process of flushing data to the server and if we are, we
should wait until the process is complete before we attempt the write.
We should also wait for existing writes to complete before we process
an oplock break request which changes oplock values.

We add a version specific downgrade_oplock() operation to allow for
differences in the oplock values set for the different smb versions.

Jeff Layton 5d81de8e86 cifs: ensure that uncached writes handle unmapped areas correctly
It's possible for userland to pass down an iovec via writev() that has a
bogus user pointer in it. If that happens and we're doing an uncached
write, then we can end up getting less bytes than we expect from the
call to iov_iter_copy_from_user. This is CVE-2014-0069

cifs_iovec_write isn't set up to handle that situation however. It'll
blindly keep chugging through the page array and not filling those pages
with anything useful. Worse yet, we'll later end up with a negative
number in wdata->tailsz, which will confuse the sending routines and
cause an oops at the very least.

Fix this by having the copy phase of cifs_iovec_write stop copying data
in this situation and send the last write as a short one. At the same
time, we want to avoid sending a zero-length write to the server, so
break out of the loop and set rc to -EFAULT if that happens. This also
allows us to handle the case where no address in the iovec is valid.

[Note: Marking this for stable on v3.4+ kernels, but kernels as old as
v2.6.38 may have a similar problem and may need similar fix]

Steve French 42eacf9e57 [CIFS] Fix cifsacl mounts over smb2 to not call cifs
When mounting with smb2/smb3 (e.g. vers=2.1) and cifsacl mount option,
it was trying to get the mode by querying the acl over the cifs
rather than smb2 protocol. This patch makes that protocol
independent and makes cifsacl smb2 mounts return a more intuitive
operation not supported error (until we add a worker function
for smb2_get_acl).

Note that a previous patch fixed getxattr/setxattr for the CIFSACL xattr
which would unconditionally call cifs_get_acl and cifs_set_acl (even when
mounted smb2). I made those protocol independent last week (new protocol
version operations "get_acl" and "set_acl" but did not add an
smb2_get_acl and smb2_set_acl yet so those now simply return EOPNOTSUPP
which at least is better than sending cifs requests on smb2 mount)

The previous patches did not fix the one remaining case though ie
mounting with "cifsacl" when getting mode from acl would unconditionally
end up calling "cifs_get_acl_from_fid" even for smb2 - so made that protocol
independent but to make that protocol independent had to make sure that the callers
were passing the protocol independent handle structure (cifs_fid) instead
of cifs specific _u16 network file handle (ie cifs_fid instead of cifs_fid->fid)

Now mount with smb2 and cifsacl mount options will return EOPNOTSUP (instead
of timing out) and a future patch will add smb2 operations (e.g. get_smb2_acl)
to enable this.

Al Viro d311d79de3 fix O_SYNC|O_APPEND syncing the wrong range on write()
It actually goes back to 2004 ([PATCH] Concurrent O_SYNC write support)
when sync_page_range() had been introduced; generic_file_write{,v}() correctly
synced
	pos_after_write - written .. pos_after_write - 1
but generic_file_aio_write() synced
	pos_before_write .. pos_before_write + written - 1
instead. Which is not the same thing with O_APPEND, obviously.
A couple of years later correct variant had been killed off when
everything switched to use of generic_file_aio_write().

All users of generic_file_aio_write() are affected, and the same bug
has been copied into other instances of ->aio_write().

The fix is trivial; the only subtle point is that generic_write_sync()
ought to be inlined to avoid calculations useless for the majority of
calls.

Steve French dca692880e [CIFS] O_DIRECT opens should work on directio mounts
Opens on current cifs/smb2/smb3 mounts with O_DIRECT flag fail
even when caching is disabled on the mount. This was
reported by those running SMB2 benchmarks who need to
be able to pass O_DIRECT on many of their open calls to
reduce caching effects, but would also be needed by other
applications.

When mounting with forcedirectio ("cache=none") cifs and smb2/smb3
do not go through the page cache and thus opens with O_DIRECT flag
should work (when posix extensions are negotiated we even are
able to send the flag to the server). This patch fixes that
in a simple way.

The 9P client has a similar situation (caching is often disabled)
and takes the same approach to O_DIRECT support ie works if caching
disabled, but if client caching enabled it fails with EINVAL.

A followon idea for a future patch as Pavel noted, could
be that files opened with O_DIRECT could cause us to change
inode->i_fop on the fly from

cifs_file_strict_ops

to

cifs_file_direct_ops

which would allow us to support this on non-forcedirectio mounts
(cache=strict and cache=loose) as well.

Sachin Prabhu 466bd31bbd cifs: Avoid calling unlock_page() twice in cifs_readpage() when using fscache
When reading a single page with cifs_readpage(), we make a call to
fscache_read_or_alloc_page() which once done, asynchronously calls
the completion function cifs_readpage_from_fscache_complete(). This
completion function unlocks the page once it has been populated from
cache. The module then attempts to unlock the page a second time in
cifs_readpage() which leads to warning messages.

In case of a successful call to fscache_read_or_alloc_page() we should skip
the second unlock_page() since this will be called by the
cifs_readpage_from_fscache_complete() once the page has been populated by
fscache.

With the modifications to cifs_readpage_worker(), we will need to re-grab the
page lock in cifs_write_begin().

The problem was first noticed when testing new fscache patches for cifs.

Jeff Layton 1c8c601a8c locks: protect most of the file_lock handling with i_lock
Having a global lock that protects all of this code is a clear
scalability problem. Instead of doing that, move most of the code to be
protected by the i_lock instead. The exceptions are the global lists
that the ->fl_link sits on, and the ->fl_block list.

->fl_link is what connects these structures to the
global lists, so we must ensure that we hold those locks when iterating
over or updating these lists.

Furthermore, sound deadlock detection requires that we hold the
blocked_list state steady while checking for loops. We also must ensure
that the search and update to the list are atomic.

For the checking and insertion side of the blocked_list, push the
acquisition of the global lock into __posix_lock_file and ensure that
checking and update of the blocked_list is done without dropping the
lock in between.

On the removal side, when waking up blocked lock waiters, take the
global lock before walking the blocked list and dequeue the waiters from
the global list prior to removal from the fl_block list.

With this, deadlock detection should be race free while we minimize
excessive file_lock_lock thrashing.

Finally, in order to avoid a lock inversion problem when handling
/proc/locks output we must ensure that manipulations of the fl_block
list are also protected by the file_lock_lock.

Jeff Layton 1a9e64a711 cifs: use posix_unblock_lock instead of locks_delete_block
commit 66189be74 (CIFS: Fix VFS lock usage for oplocked files) exported
the locks_delete_block symbol. There's already an exported helper
function that provides this capability however, so make cifs use that
instead and turn locks_delete_block back into a static function.

Note that if fl->fl_next == NULL then this lock has already been through
locks_delete_block(), so we should be OK to ignore an ENOENT error here
and simply not retry the lock.

Lukas Czerner d47992f86b mm: change invalidatepage prototype to accept length
Currently there is no way to truncate partial page where the end
truncate point is not at the end of the page. This is because it was not
needed and the functionality was enough for file system truncate
operation to work properly. However more file systems now support punch
hole feature and it can benefit from mm supporting truncating page just
up to the certain point.

Specifically, with this functionality truncate_inode_pages_range() can
be changed so it supports truncating partial page at the end of the
range (currently it will BUG_ON() if 'end' is not at the end of the
page).

This commit changes the invalidatepage() address space operation
prototype to accept range to be invalidated and update all the instances
for it.

We also change the block_invalidatepage() in the same way and actually
make a use of the new length argument implementing range invalidation.

Actual file system implementations will follow except the file systems
where the changes are really simple and should not change the behaviour
in any way .Implementation for truncate_page_range() which will be able
to accept page unaligned ranges will follow as well.

Joe Perches f96637be08 [CIFS] cifs: Rename cERROR and cFYI to cifs_dbg
It's not obvious from reading the macro names that these macros
are for debugging. Convert the names to a single more typical
kernel style cifs_dbg macro.

	cERROR(1, ...)   -> cifs_dbg(VFS, ...)
	cFYI(1, ...)     -> cifs_dbg(FYI, ...)
	cFYI(DBG2, ...)  -> cifs_dbg(NOISY, ...)

Move the terminating format newline from the macro to the call site.

Add CONFIG_CIFS_DEBUG function cifs_vfs_err to emit the
"CIFS VFS: " prefix for VFS messages.

Size is reduced ~ 1% when CONFIG_CIFS_DEBUG is set (default y)

$ size fs/cifs/cifs.ko*
text data bss dec hex filename
 265245 2525 132 267902 4167e	fs/cifs/cifs.ko.new
 268359 2525 132 271016 422a8 fs/cifs/cifs.ko.old

Other miscellaneous changes around these conversions:

  previously had defective \n's
o Remove unnecessary OOM messages as kmalloc() calls dump_stack

"This set of changes starts with a few small enhnacements to the user

I do my best to document that if you care about limiting your

There is a minor bug fix to prevent overflowing the stack if someone
creates way too many user namespaces.

The bulk of the changes are a continuation of the kuid/kgid push down
work through the filesystems. These changes make using uids and gids
typesafe which ensures that these filesystems are safe to use when
multiple user namespaces are in use. The filesystems converted for
3.9 are ceph, 9p, afs, ocfs2, gfs2, ncpfs, nfs, nfsd, and cifs. The
changes for these filesystems were a little more involved so I split
the changes into smaller hopefully obviously correct changes.

XFS is the only filesystem that remains. I was hoping I could get
that in this release so that user namespace support would be enabled
with an allyesconfig or an allmodconfig but it looks like the xfs
changes need another couple of days before it they are ready."

Jeff Layton 3a98b86143 cifs: fix writeback race with file that is growing
Commit eddb079deb created a regression in the writepages codepath.
Previously, whenever it needed to check the size of the file, it did so
by consulting the inode->i_size field directly. With that patch, the
i_size was fetched once on entry into the writepages code and that value
was used henceforth.

If the file is changing size though (for instance, if someone is writing
to it or has truncated it), then that value is likely to be wrong. This
can lead to data corruption. Pages past the EOF at the time that the
writepages call was issued may be silently dropped and ignored because
cifs_writepages wrongly assumes that the file must have been truncated
in the interim.

Fix cifs_writepages to properly fetch the size from the inode->i_size
field instead to properly account for this possibility.

Convert cifs_iovec_read to use async I/O. This also raises the limit on
the rsize for uncached reads. We first allocate a set of pages to hold

replies and copy the results into the iovec.

A possible future optimization would be to kmap and inline the iovec

Jeff Layton 5eba8ab360 cifs: allow for larger rsize= options and change defaults
Currently we cap the rsize at a value that fits in CIFSMaxBufSize. That's
not needed any longer for readpages. Allow the use of larger values for
readpages. cifs_iovec_read and cifs_read however are still limited to the
CIFSMaxBufSize. Make sure they don't exceed that.

The patch also changes the rsize defaults. The default when unix
extensions are enabled is set to 1M for parity with the wsize, and there
is a hard cap of ~16M.

When unix extensions are not enabled, the default is set to 60k. According
to MS-CIFS, Windows servers can only send a max of 60k at a time, so
this is more efficient than requesting a larger size. If the user wishes
however, the max can be extended up to 128k - the length of the READ_RSP
header.

Really old servers however require a special hack to ensure that we don't
request too large a read.

Jeff Layton 690c5e3163 cifs: convert cifs_readpages to use async reads
Now that we have code in place to do asynchronous reads, convert
cifs_readpages to use it. The new cifs_readpages walks the page_list
that gets passed in, locks and adds the pages to the pagecache and
sets up cifs_readdata to handle the reads.

The rest is handled by the cifs_async_readv infrastructure.

Add mount options backupuid and backugid.

It allows an authenticated user to access files with the intent to back them
up including their ACLs, who may not have access permission but has

of the built-in group Backup Operators.

When mount options backupuid is specified, cifs client restricts the
use of backup intents to the user whose effective user id is specified
along with the mount option.

When mount options backupgid is specified, cifs client restricts the
use of backup intents to the users whose effective user id belongs to the

Steve French e75047344e add new module parameter 'enable_oplocks'
Thus spake Jeff Layton:

"Making that a module parm would allow you to set that parameter at boot
time without needing to add special startup scripts. IMO, all of the
procfile "switches" under /proc/fs/cifs should be module parms
instead."

This patch doesn't alter the default behavior (Oplocks are enabled by
default).

To disable oplocks when loading the module, use

   modprobe cifs enable_oplocks=0

(any of '0' or 'n' or 'N' conventions can be used).

To disable oplocks at runtime using the new interface, use

   echo 0 > /sys/module/cifs/parameters/enable_oplocks

The older /proc/fs/cifs/OplockEnabled interface will be deprecated
after two releases. A subsequent patch will add an warning message
about this deprecation.

Changes since v2:
   - make enable_oplocks a 'bool'

Changes since v1:
   - eliminate the use of extra variable by renaming the old one to
enable_oplocks and make it an 'int' type.

Jeff Layton c974befa40 cifs: untangle server->maxBuf and CIFSMaxBufSize
server->maxBuf is the maximum SMB size (including header) that the
server can handle. CIFSMaxBufSize is the maximum amount of data (sans
header) that the client can handle. Currently maxBuf is being capped at
CIFSMaxBufSize + the max headers size, and the two values are used
somewhat interchangeably in the code.

This makes little sense as these two values are not related at all.
Separate them and make sure the code uses the right values in the right
places.

Jeff Layton ad635942c8 cifs: simplify refcounting for oplock breaks
Currently, we take a sb->s_active reference and a cifsFileInfo reference
when an oplock break workqueue job is queued. This is unnecessary and
more complicated than it needs to be. Also as Al points out,
deactivate_super has non-trivial locking implications so it's best to
avoid that if we can.

Instead, just cancel any pending oplock breaks for this filehandle
synchronously in cifsFileInfo_put after taking it off the lists.
That should ensure that this job doesn't outlive the structures it
depends on.

Josef Bacik 02c24a8218 fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlers
Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called
in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and
the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some
file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and
ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make
sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each
individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there.

Pavel Shilovsky d4ffff1fa9 CIFS: Add rwpidforward mount option
Add rwpidforward mount option that switches on a mode when we forward
pid of a process who opened a file to any read and write operation.

This can prevent applications like WINE from failing on read or write
operation on a previously locked file region from the same netfd from
another process if we use mandatory brlock style.

It is actual for WINE because during a run of WINE program two processes
work on the same netfd - share the same file struct between several VFS
fds:
1) WINE-server does open and lock;
2) WINE-application does read and write.

Jeff Layton c3d17b63e5 cifs: convert cifs_writepages to use async writes
Have cifs_writepages issue asynchronous writes instead of waiting on
each write call to complete before issuing another. This also allows us
to return more quickly from writepages. It can just send out all of the
I/Os and not wait around for the replies.

In the WB_SYNC_ALL case, if the write completes with a retryable error,
then the completion workqueue job will resend the write.

This also changes the page locking semantics a little bit. Instead of
holding the page lock until the response is received, release it after
doing the send. This will reduce contention for the page lock and should
prevent processes that have the file mmap'ed from being blocked
unnecessarily.
