Export more client attributes via sysfs that are usually obtained
upon connection. In some cases, for example a monitoring application
may wish to know the attributes without actually performing the connection.

To allow other transports to be loaded with vmci_transport,
we register the vmci_transport as G2H or H2G only when a VMCI guest
or host is active.
To do that, this patch adds a callback registered in the vmci driver
that will be called when the host or guest becomes active.
This callback will register the vmci_transport in the VSOCK core.

The glitch detection HW (TRC) save it status information into
TRC status register.
Make it available to user-space via read-only sysfs file.
The TRC register is availab for PCH15 gen and newer, for older
platforms reading the sysfs file will fail with EOPNOTSUPP.

Add parent device name to the name of devices on bus to avoid
device names collisions for same client UUID available
from different MEI heads. Namely this prevents sysfs collision under
/sys/bus/mei/device/
In the device part leave just UUID other parameters that are
required for device matching are not required here and are
just bloating the name.

A handful of drivers all have a trivial wrapper around their ioctl
handler, but don't call the compat_ptr() conversion function at the
moment. In practice this does not matter, since none of them are used
on the s390 architecture and for all other architectures, compat_ptr()
does not do anything, but using the new compat_ptr_ioctl()
helper makes it more correct in theory, and simplifies the code.
I checked that all ioctl handlers in these files are compatible
and take either pointer arguments or no argument.

The .ioctl and .compat_ioctl file operations have the same prototype so
they can both point to the same function, which works great almost all
the time when all the commands are compatible.
One exception is the s390 architecture, where a compat pointer is only
31 bit wide, and converting it into a 64-bit pointer requires calling
compat_ptr(). Most drivers here will never run in s390, but since we now
have a generic helper for it, it's easy enough to use it consistently.
I double-checked all these drivers to ensure that all ioctl arguments
are used as pointers or are ignored, but are not interpreted as integer
values.

Code that iterates over all standard PCI BARs typically uses
PCI_STD_RESOURCE_END. However, that requires the unusual test
"i <= PCI_STD_RESOURCE_END" rather than something the typical
"i < PCI_STD_NUM_BARS".
Add a definition for PCI_STD_NUM_BARS and change loops to use the more
idiomatic C style to help avoid fencepost errors.

the DSP firmware requires some calls to be held until processing has
completed: this is to guarantee that memory continues to be
accessible.
Nevertheless, the fastrpc driver chooses not support the case were
requests need to be held for unbounded amounts of time. If such a
use-case becomes necessary, this timeout will need to be revisited.

Support the allocation/deallocation of buffers mapped to the DSP.
When the memory mapped to the DSP at process creation is not enough,
the fastrpc library can extend it at runtime. This avoids having to do
large preallocations by default.

The fixed MKHI client on PCH 6 gen platforms
does not support fw version retrieval.
The error is not fatal, but it fills up the kernel logs and
slows down the driver start.
This patch disables requesting FW version on GEN6 and earlier platforms.

Currently when binding to an spd EEPROM, the at24 drivers logs the
following message:
256 byte spd EEPROM, read-only, 0 bytes/write
The last part is confusing, as by definition you don't write to a
read-only EEPROM, plus "0 bytes/write" makes no sense whatsoever.
I propose to have a different message for read-only EEPROMs, which
does not include this last part.

To allow the user to use a custom file for the HWMON lm-sensors library
per card type, the driver needs to register the HWMON sensors with the
specific card type name.
The card name is supplied by the F/W running on the device. If the F/W is
old and doesn't supply a card name, a default card name is displayed as
the sensors group name.

Users and sysadmins usually want to know what is the device utilization as
a level 0 indication if they are efficiently using the device.
Add a new opcode to the INFO IOCTL that will return the device utilization
over the last period of 100-1000ms. The return value is 0-100,
representing as percentage the total utilization rate.

The Coresight timestamp is enabled for a specific debug session using
the HL_DEBUG_OP_TIMESTAMP opcode of the debug IOCTL.
In order to have a perpetual timestamp that would be comparable between
various debug sessions, this patch moves the timestamp enablement to be
part of the HW initialization.
The HL_DEBUG_OP_TIMESTAMP opcode turns to be deprecated and shouldn't be
used. Old user-space that will call it won't see any change in the
behavior of the debug session.

Now that we don't print the queue testing messages, we need to print when
the reset is finished so whoever looks at the kernel log will know the

driver initialization are done.
This patch moves the cdev and device adding to the system to the end of

This patch fixes a possible kernel crash when a user provides a too small
input structure to the Debug IOCTL.
The fix sets a default input structure and copies to it the user data.
In case the user provided as input a too small structure, the code will
use the default values taken from the default structure.
Note that in contrary to the input structure, the user can provide an
output structure with changing size or no size at all. Therefore the user
output structure validation is already done in the Debug logic later on.

The PSOC scratch-pad registers are used for communication with the
device CPU. This patch adds new definitions for these registers which
are more descriptive than their general names.
The new set of definitions also gathers and documents the current usage
of the scratch-pad registers by the driver and the device CPU.

This patch changes the driver to create two char devices for each ASIC
it discovers. This is done to allow system/monitoring applications to
query the device for stats, information, idle state and more, while also
allowing the deep-learning application to send work to the ASIC.
One char device is the original device, hlX. IOCTL calls through this
device file can perform any task on the device (compute, memory, queries).
The open function for this device will fail if it was called before but
the file-descriptor it created was not completely released yet (the
release callback function is not called from the kernel until all
instances of that FD are closed). The driver needs to keep this behavior
to support backward compatibility with existing userspace, which count
that the open will fail if the device is "occupied".
The second char device is called "hl_controlDx", where x is the same index
of the main device with a minor number of the original char device + 1.
Applications that open this device can only call the INFO IOCTL. There is
no limitation on the number of applications opening this device.

This patch re-factors the device_setup_cdev() function to make it more
generic. It doesn't manipulate members of the driver's internal device
structure but instead works only on the arguments that are sent to it.
This is in preparation for using this function to create an additional
char device per ASIC.

This patch adds a new list to the driver's device structure. The list will
keep the file private data structures that the driver creates when a user
process opens the device.
This change is needed because it is useless to try to count how many FD
are open. Instead, track our own private data structure per open file and
once it is released, remove it from the list. As long as the list is not
empty, it means we have a user that can do something with our device.

This patch renames the "user_ctx" field in the device structure to
"compute_ctx". This better reflects the meaning of this context.
In addition, we also check in the ctx_fini() that the debug mode should be
disabled only if the context being destroyed is the compute context. This
has no effect right now as we only have a single process and a single
context, but this makes the code more ready for multiple process support.

When the user query the dram usage of a context, show it the dram usage of
its context, not the user context that is currently running on the device.

in-flight CSs. This is because the user process can't be closed while
there are open CSs. Therefore, there is no point of sending it a SIGKILL

The ability of setting power management properties by the system
administrator (through sysfs properties) is only relevant for the GOYA
ASIC. Therefore, move the relevant sysfs properties to the GOYA sysfs
specific file, to make the properties appear in sysfs only for GOYA cards.

In the driver timeout functions, we give the simulator a factor of 10
in the timeout. This was necessary when the requested timeout is small
but if it was a few seconds, this can result in a very large timeout which
is unnecessary.
This patch caps the maximum timeout of the simulator to 10 seconds, which
is our largest timeout in the code. That is more then enough for anything
the simulator is doing.

Introduce two options to control the use of the tlbie instruction. A
boot time option which completely disables the kernel using the
instruction, this is currently incompatible with HASH MMU, KVM, and
coherent accelerators.
And a debugfs option can be switched at runtime and avoids using tlbie
for invalidating CPU TLBs for normal process and kernel address
mappings. Coherent accelerators are still managed with tlbie, as will
KVM partition scope translations.
Cross-CPU TLB flushing is implemented with IPIs and tlbiel. This is a
basic implementation which does not attempt to make any optimisation
beyond the tlbie implementation.
This is useful for performance testing among other things. For example
in certain situations on large systems, using IPIs may be faster than
tlbie as they can be directed rather than broadcast. Later we may also
take advantage of the IPIs to do more interesting things such as trim
the mm cpumask more aggressively.

dma buf refcount has to be done by the driver which is going to use the fd.
This driver already does refcount on the dmabuf fd if its actively using it
but also does an additional refcounting via extra ioctl.
This additional refcount can lead to memory leak in cases where the
applications fail to call the ioctl to decrement the refcount.
So remove this extra refcount in the ioctl

The channel context is referenced from the fastrpc user and might as
user space holds the file descriptor open outlive the fastrpc device,
which is removed when the remote processor is shutting down.
Reference count the channel context in order to retain this object until
all references has been relinquished.

The cause for the bug is that when the "delayed" doorbell is invoked, it
takes a reference on the doorbell entry and schedules work that is
supposed to run the appropriate code and drop the doorbell entry
reference. The code ignores the fact that if the work is already queued,
it will not be scheduled to run one more time. As a result one of the
references would not be dropped. When the code waits for the reference
to get to zero, during balloon reset or module removal, it gets stuck.
Fix it. Drop the reference if schedule_work() indicates that the work is
already queued.
Note that this bug got more apparent (or apparent at all) due to
commit ce664331b2 ("vmw_balloon: VMCI_DOORBELL_SET does not check status").

There are three paths through the kernel code exception logging:
- BUG (no configurable printk message)
- WARN_ON (no configurable printk message)
- WARN (configurable printk message)
LKDTM was not testing WARN_ON(). This is needed to evaluate the placement
of the "cut here" line, which needs special handling in each of the
three exceptions (and between architectures that implement instruction
exceptions to implement the code exceptions).

The only thing remaining of the machvecs is a few checks if we are
running on an SGI UV system. Replace those with the existing
is_uv_system() check that has been rewritten to simply check the
OEM ID directly.
That leaves us with a generic kernel that is as fast as the previous
DIG/ZX1/UV kernels, but can support all hardware. Support for UV
and the HP SBA IOMMU is now optional based on new config options.

The IOC4 is a multi-function chip seen on SGI SN2 and some SGI MIPS
systems. This removes the base driver, which while not having an SN2
Kconfig dependency was only for sub-drivers that had one.

GRU is already using almost the same algorithm as get/put, it even
helpfully has a 10 year old comment to make this algorithm common, which
is finally happening.
There are a few differences and fixes from this conversion:
- GRU used rcu not srcu to read the hlist
- Unclear how the locking worked to prevent gru_register_mmu_notifier()
from running concurrently with gru_drop_mmu_notifier() - this version is
safe
- GRU had a release function which only set a variable without any locking
that skiped the synchronize_srcu during unregister which looks racey,
but this makes it reliable via the integrated call_srcu().
- It is unclear if the mmap_sem is actually held when
__mmu_notifier_register() was called, lockdep will now warn if this is
wrong

The static xpc_arch_operations structure xpc_arch_ops_uv is only copied
into the structure xpc_arch_ops, after which it is never modified; nor
is it used in any other way. Hence it can be declared as a constant to
prevent unintended modifications of its fields.

Support monitoring and detecting the SD-FEC error events
through IRQ and poll file operation.
The SD-FEC device can detect one-error or multi-error events.
An error triggers an interrupt which creates and run the ONE_SHOT
IRQ thread.
The ONE_SHOT IRQ thread detects type of error and pass that
information to the poll function.
The file_operation callback poll(), collects the events and
updates the statistics accordingly.
The function poll blocks() on waiting queue which can be
unblocked by ONE_SHOT IRQ handling thread.
Support SD-FEC interrupt set ioctl callback.
The SD-FEC can detect two type of errors: coding errors (ECC) and
a data interface errors (TLAST).
The errors are events which can trigger an IRQ if enabled.
The driver can monitor and detect these errors through IRQ.
Also the driver updates the statistical data.

When unmasking IRQs inside the ASIC, the driver passes an array of all the
IRQ to unmask. The ASIC's CPU is working in LE so when running in a BE
host, the driver needs to do the proper endianness swapping when preparing
this array.
In addition, this patch also fixes the endianness of a couple of kernel log
debug messages that print values of packets

The PQs of internal H/W queues (QMANs) can be located in different memory
areas for different ASICs. Therefore, when writing PQEs, we need to use
the correct function according to the location of the PQ. e.g. if the PQ
is located in the device's memory (SRAM or DRAM), we need to use
memcpy_toio() so it would work in architectures that have separate
address ranges for IO memory.
This patch makes the code that writes the PQE to be ASIC-specific so we
can handle this properly per ASIC.

Packets that arrive from the user and need to be parsed by the driver are
assumed to be in LE format.
This patch fix all the places where the code handles these packets and use
the correct endianness macros to handle them, as the driver handles the
packets in CPU format (LE or BE depending on the arch).

In case kernel context init fails during device initialization, both
hl_ctx_put() and kfree() are called, ending with a double free of the
kernel context.
Calling kfree() is needed only when a failure happens between the
allocation of the kernel context and its initialization, so move it to
there and remove it from the error flow.

This patch fix a bug in the host memory polling macro. The bug is that the
memory being polled can be written by the device, which always writes it
in LE. However, if the host is running Linux in BE mode, we need to
convert the value that was written by the device before matching it to the
required value that the caller has given to the macro.

writeX macros might perform byte-swapping in BE architectures. As our F/W
is in LE format, we need to make sure no byte-swapping will occur.
There is a standard kernel function (called memcpy_toio) for copying data
to I/O area which is used in a lot of drivers to download F/W to PCIe
adapters. That function also makes sure the data is copied "as-is",
without byte-swapping.
This patch use that function to copy the F/W to the GOYA ASIC instead of
writeX macros.

misc/eeprom/{at24,at25,eeprom_93xx46} drivers all register their
corresponding devices in the nvmem framework in compat mode which requires
nvmem sysfs interface to be present. The latter, however, has been split
out from nvmem under a separate Kconfig in commit ae0c2d7255 ("nvmem:
core: add NVMEM_SYSFS Kconfig"). As a result, probing certain I2C-attached
EEPROMs now fails with
at24: probe of 0-0050 failed with error -38
because of a stub implementation of nvmem_sysfs_setup_compat()
in drivers/nvmem/nvmem.h. Update the nvmem dependency for these drivers
so they could load again:
at24 0-0050: 32768 byte 24c256 EEPROM, writable, 64 bytes/write

Generally, declaring a platform device as a static variable is
a bad idea and can cause all kinds of problems, in particular
with the DMA configuration and lifetime rules.
A specific problem we hit here is from a bug in clang that warns
about certain (otherwise valid) macros when used in static variables:

A slightly better way here is to create the platform device dynamically
and set the dma mask in the probe function.
This avoids the warning and some other problems, but is still not ideal
because the device creation should really be separated from the driver,
and the fact that the device has no parent means we have to force
the dma mask rather than having it set up from the bus that the device
is actually on.

Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1
It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api
changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.
Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
entries in a simple way
- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
- default_attrs use for some ktype users
- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
- compressed firmware file loading
- deferred probe fixes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge
issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge
issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :)

Here is the "large" pull request for char and misc and other assorted
smaller driver subsystems for 5.3-rc1.
It seems that this tree is becoming the funnel point of lots of smaller
driver subsystems, which is fine for me, but that's why it is getting
larger over time and does not just contain stuff under drivers/char/ and
drivers/misc.

The OpenCAPI discovery and configuration specification has been
updated and introduces version 1.1 of the AFU descriptor template,
with new fields to better define the memory layout of an OpenCAPI
adapter.
The ocxl driver doesn't do much yet to support LPC memory but as we
start seeing (non-LPC) AFU images using the new template, this patch
updates the config space parsing code to avoid spitting a warning.

Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman:
"A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
task.
The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.
Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.
This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and
carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends
making this kind of error almost impossible in the future"
