From commit e147133a42 ("ACPI / APEI: Make hest.c manage the estatus
memory pool") was merged, ghes_init() relies on acpi_hest_init() to manage
the estatus memory pool. On the other hand, ghes_init() relies on
sdei_init() to detect the SDEI version and (un)register events. The
dependencies are as follows:
ghes_init() => acpi_hest_init() => acpi_bus_init() => acpi_init()
ghes_init() => sdei_init()
HEST is not PCI-specific and initcall ordering is implicit and not
well-defined within a level.
Based on above, remove acpi_hest_init() from acpi_pci_root_init() and
convert ghes_init() and sdei_init() from initcalls to explicit calls in the
following order:
acpi_hest_init()
ghes_init()
sdei_init()

Commit 6727ad9e20 ("nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus")
introduced a new text section called cpuidle; with that, we have a mechanism
to add idling functions in such section and skip them from nmi_backtrace
output, since they're useless and potentially flooding for such report.
Happens that inlining might cause some real idle functions to end-up
outside of such section; this is currently the case of ACPI processor_idle
driver; the functions acpi_idle_enter_* do inline acpi_idle_do_entry(),
hence they stay out of the cpuidle section.
Fix that by marking such functions to also live in the cpuidle section.

It seems that these quirks are no longer necessary since
commit 69b957c26b ("ACPI: EC: Fix possible issues related to EC
initialization order"), which has fixed this in a generic manner.
There are 3 commits adding DMI entries with this quirk (adding multiple
DMI entries per commit). 2/3 commits are from before the generic fix.
Which leaves commit 6306f04319 ("ACPI: EC: Make more Asus laptops
use ECDT _GPE"), which was committed way after the generic fix.
But this was just due to slow upstreaming of it. This commit stems
from Endless from 15 Aug 2017 (committed upstream 20 May 2021):
https://github.com/endlessm/linux/pull/288
The current code should work fine without this:
1. The EC_FLAGS_IGNORE_DSDT_GPE flag is only checked in ec_parse_device(),
like this:
if (boot_ec && boot_ec_is_ecdt && EC_FLAGS_IGNORE_DSDT_GPE) {
ec->gpe = boot_ec->gpe;
} else {
/* parse GPE */
}
2. ec_parse_device() is only called from acpi_ec_add() and
acpi_ec_dsdt_probe()
3. acpi_ec_dsdt_probe() starts with:
if (boot_ec)
return;
so it only calls ec_parse_device() when boot_ec == NULL, meaning that
the quirk never triggers for this call. So only the call in
acpi_ec_add() matters.
4. acpi_ec_add() does the following after the ec_parse_device() call:
if (boot_ec && ec->command_addr == boot_ec->command_addr &&
ec->data_addr == boot_ec->data_addr &&
!EC_FLAGS_TRUST_DSDT_GPE) {
/*
* Trust PNP0C09 namespace location rather than
* ECDT ID. But trust ECDT GPE rather than _GPE
* because of ASUS quirks, so do not change
* boot_ec->gpe to ec->gpe.
*/
boot_ec->handle = ec->handle;
acpi_handle_debug(ec->handle, "duplicated.\n");
acpi_ec_free(ec);
ec = boot_ec;
}
The quirk only matters if boot_ec != NULL and EC_FLAGS_TRUST_DSDT_GPE
is never set at the same time as EC_FLAGS_IGNORE_DSDT_GPE.
That means that if the addresses match we always enter this if block and
then only the ec->handle part of the data stored in ec by ec_parse_device()
is used and the rest is thrown away, after which ec is made to point
to boot_ec, at which point ec->gpe == boot_ec->gpe, so the same result
as with the quirk set, independent of the value of the quirk.
Also note the comment in this block which indicates that the gpe result
from ec_parse_device() is deliberately not taken to deal with buggy
Asus laptops and all DMI quirks setting EC_FLAGS_IGNORE_DSDT_GPE are for
Asus laptops.
Based on the above I believe that unless on some quirked laptops
the ECDT and DSDT EC addresses do not match we can drop the quirk.
I've checked dmesg output to ensure the ECDT and DSDT EC addresses match
for quirked models using https://linux-hardware.org hw-probe reports.
I've been able to confirm that the addresses match for the following
models this way: GL702VMK, X505BA, X505BP, X550VXK, X580VD.
Whereas for the following models I could find any dmesg output:
FX502VD, FX502VE, X542BA, X542BP.
Note the models without dmesg all were submitted in patches with a batch
of models and other models from the same batch checkout ok.
This, combined with that all the code adding the quirks was written before
the generic fix makes me believe that it is safe to remove this quirk now.

The fix in commit 3f8dec1162 ("ACPI/APEI: Limit printable size of BERT

fixed size block of memory for the BERT table, relying on s/w to quit
when it finds a record with estatus->block_status == 0. On these systems
all errors are suppressed because the check:
if (region_len < ACPI_BERT_PRINT_MAX_LEN)
always fails.
New scheme skips individual CPER records that are too large, and also
limits the total number of records that will be printed to 5.

This results in a dangling SBIOS request for backlight change for some
reason, causing the backlight to switch to ~2% once per boot on the first

Commit 3a0cf7ab8d ("ACPI: video: Change how we determine if brightness
key-presses are handled") made acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses()
report false when none of the ACPI Video Devices support backlight control.
But it turns out that at least on a Dell Inspiron N4010 there is no ACPI
backlight control, yet brightness hotkeys are still reported through
the ACPI Video Bus; and since acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses()
now returns false, brightness keypresses are now reported twice.
To fix this rename the has_backlight flag to may_report_brightness_keys and
also set it the first time a brightness key press event is received.
Depending on the delivery of the other ACPI (WMI) event vs the ACPI Video
Bus event this means that the first brightness key press might still get
reported twice, but all further keypresses will be filtered as before.
Note that this relies on other drivers reporting brightness key events
calling acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses() when delivering
the events (rather then once during driver probe). This is already
required and documented in include/acpi/video.h:

The transition_delay_us (struct cpufreq_policy) is currently defined
as:
Preferred average time interval between consecutive invocations of
the driver to set the frequency for this policy. To be set by the
scaling driver (0, which is the default, means no preference).
The transition_latency represents the amount of time necessary for a
CPU to change its frequency.
A PCCT table advertises mutliple values:
- pcc_nominal: Expected latency to process a command, in microseconds
- pcc_mpar: The maximum number of periodic requests that the subspace
channel can support, reported in commands per minute. 0 indicates no
limitation.
- pcc_mrtt: The minimum amount of time that OSPM must wait after the
completion of a command before issuing the next command,
in microseconds.
cppc_get_transition_latency() allows to get the max of them.
commit d4f3388afd ("cpufreq / CPPC: Set platform specific
transition_delay_us") allows to select transition_delay_us based on
the platform, and fallbacks to cppc_get_transition_latency()
otherwise.
If _CPC objects are not using PCC channels (no PPCT table), the
transition_delay_us is set to CPUFREQ_ETERNAL, leading to really long
periods between frequency updates (~4s).
If the desired_reg, where performance requests are written, is in
SystemMemory or SystemIo ACPI address space, there is no delay
in requests. So return 0 instead of CPUFREQ_ETERNAL, leading to
transition_delay_us being set to LATENCY_MULTIPLIER us (1000 us).
This patch also adds two macros to check the address spaces.

commit 1bbc21785b upstream.
Currently the sysfs interface maps the BERT error region as "memory"
(through acpi_os_map_memory()) in order to copy the error records into
memory buffers through memory operations (eg memory_read_from_buffer()).
The OS system cannot detect whether the BERT error region is part of
system RAM or it is "device memory" (eg BMC memory) and therefore it
cannot detect which memory attributes the bus to memory support (and
corresponding kernel mapping, unless firmware provides the required
information).
The acpi_os_map_memory() arch backend implementation determines the
mapping attributes. On arm64, if the BERT error region is not present in
the EFI memory map, the error region is mapped as device-nGnRnE; this
triggers alignment faults since memcpy unaligned accesses are not
allowed in device-nGnRnE regions.
The ACPI sysfs code cannot therefore map by default the BERT error
region with memory semantics but should use a safer default.
Change the sysfs code to map the BERT error region as MMIO (through
acpi_os_map_iomem()) and use the memcpy_fromio() interface to read the
error region into the kernel buffer.

commit fc45e55ebc upstream.
The "safe state" index is used by acpi_idle_enter_bm() to avoid
entering a C-state that may require bus mastering to be disabled
on entry in the cases when this is not going to happen. For this
reason, it should not be set to point to C3 type of C-states, because
they may require bus mastering to be disabled on entry in principle.
This was broken by commit d6b88ce2eb ("ACPI: processor idle: Allow
playing dead in C3 state") which inadvertently allowed the "safe
state" index to point to C3 type of C-states.
This results in a machine that won't boot past the point when it first
enters C3. Restore the correct behaviour (either demote to C1/C2, or
use C3 but also set ARB_DIS=1).

When `osc_pc_lpi_support_confirmed` is set through `_OSC` and `_LPI` is
populated then the cpuidle driver assumes that LPI is fully functional.
However currently the kernel only provides architectural support for LPI
on ARM. This leads to high power consumption on X86 platforms that
otherwise try to enable LPI.
So probe whether or not LPI support is implemented before enabling LPI in
the kernel. This is done by overloading `acpi_processor_ffh_lpi_probe` to
check whether it returns `-EOPNOTSUPP`. It also means that all future
implementations of `acpi_processor_ffh_lpi_probe` will need to follow
these semantics as well.

Platforms with large BERT table data can trigger soft lockup errors
while attempting to print the entire BERT table data to the console at
boot:
watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#160 stuck for 23s! [swapper/0:1]
Observed on Ampere Altra systems with a single BERT record of ~250KB.
The original bert driver appears to have assumed relatively small table
data. Since it is impractical to reassemble large table data from
interwoven console messages, and the table data is available in
/sys/firmware/acpi/tables/data/BERT
limit the size for tables printed to the console to 1024 (for no reason
other than it seemed like a good place to kick off the discussion, would
appreciate feedback from existing users in terms of what size would
maintain their current usage model).
Alternatively, we could make printing a CONFIG option, use the
bert_disable boot arg (or something similar), or use a debug log level.
However, all those solutions require extra steps or change the existing
behavior for small table data. Limiting the size preserves existing
behavior on existing platforms with small table data, and eliminates the
soft lockups for platforms with large table data, while still making it
available.

Clevo NL5xRU and NL5xNU/TUXEDO Aura 15 Gen1 and Gen2 have both a working
native and video interface. However the default detection mechanism first
registers the video interface before unregistering it again and switching
to the native interface during boot. This results in a dangling SBIOS
request for backlight change for some reason, causing the backlight to
switch to ~2% once per boot on the first power cord connect or disconnect
event. Setting the native interface explicitly circumvents this buggy
behaviour by avoiding the unregistering process.

Testing on various upcoming OEM systems shows commit 7b167c4cb4 ("ACPI:
PM: Only mark EC GPE for wakeup on Intel systems") was short
sighted and the symptoms were indicative of other problems. Some OEMs
do have the dedicated GPIOs for the power button but also rely upon
an interrupt to the EC SCI to let the lid work.
The original commit showed spurious activity on Lenovo systems:
* On both Lenovo T14 and P14s the keyboard wakeup doesn't work, and
sometimes the power button event doesn't work.
This was confirmed on my end at that time.
However further development in the kernel showed that the issue was
actually the IRQ for the GPIO controller was also shared with the EC SCI.
This was actually fixed by commit 2d54067fcd ("pinctrl: amd: Fix
wakeups when IRQ is shared with SCI").
The original commit also showed problems with AC adapter:
* On HP 635 G7 detaching or attaching AC during suspend will cause
the system not to wakeup
* On Asus vivobook to prevent detaching AC causing resume problems
* On Lenovo 14ARE05 to prevent detaching AC causing resume problems
* On HP ENVY x360 to prevent detaching AC causing resume problems
Detaching AC adapter causing problems appears to have been a problem
because the EC SCI went off to notify the OS of the power adapter change
but the SCI was ignored and there was no other way to wake up this system
since GPIO controller wasn't properly enabled. The wakeups were fixed by
enabling the GPIO controller in commit acd47b9f28 ("pinctrl: amd: Handle
wake-up interrupt").
I've confirmed on a variety of OEM notebooks with the following test
1) echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/power/pm_debug_messages
2) sudo systemctl suspend
3) unplug AC adapter, make sure system is still asleep
4) wake system from lid (which is provided by ACPI SCI on some of them)
5) dmesg
a) see the EC GPE dispatched, timekeeping for X seconds (matching ~time
until AC adapter plug out)
b) see timekeeping for Y seconds until woke (matching ~time from AC
adapter until lid event)
6) Look at /sys/kernel/debug/amd_pmc/s0ix_stats

Commit 4a9af6cac0 ("ACPI: EC: Rework flushing of EC work while

pm_wakeup_pending(), but that is before canceling the SCI wakeup,
so pm_wakeup_pending() is always true. This causes the loop in
acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() to always terminate after one iteration which
may not be correct.
Address this issue by canceling the SCI wakeup earlier, from

commit cb1f65c1e1 upstream.
After commit e3728b50cd ("ACPI: PM: s2idle: Avoid possible race
related to the EC GPE") wakeup interrupts occurring immediately after
the one discarded by acpi_s2idle_wake() may be missed. Moreover, if
the SCI triggers again immediately after the rearming in
acpi_s2idle_wake(), that wakeup may be missed too.
The problem is that pm_system_irq_wakeup() only calls pm_system_wakeup()
when pm_wakeup_irq is 0, but that's not the case any more after the
interrupt causing acpi_s2idle_wake() to run until pm_wakeup_irq is
cleared by the pm_wakeup_clear() call in s2idle_loop(). However,
there may be wakeup interrupts occurring in that time frame and if
that happens, they will be missed.
To address that issue first move the clearing of pm_wakeup_irq to
the point at which it is known that the interrupt causing
acpi_s2idle_wake() to tun will be discarded, before rearming the SCI
for wakeup. Moreover, because that only reduces the size of the
time window in which the issue may manifest itself, allow
pm_system_irq_wakeup() to register two second wakeup interrupts in
a row and, when discarding the first one, replace it with the second
one. [Of course, this assumes that only one wakeup interrupt can be
discarded in one go, but currently that is the case and I am not
aware of any plans to change that.]

If Operand[0] is a reference of the ACPI_REFCLASS_REFOF class,
acpi_ex_opcode_1A_0T_1R () calls acpi_ns_get_attached_object () to
obtain return_desc which may require additional resolution with
the help of acpi_ex_read_data_from_field (). If the latter fails,
the reference counter of the original return_desc is decremented
which is incorrect, because acpi_ns_get_attached_object () does not
increment the reference counter of the object returned by it.
This issue may lead to premature deletion of the attached object
while it is still attached and a use-after-free and crash in the
host OS. For example, this may happen when on evaluation of ref_of()
a local region field where there is no registered handler for the
given Operation Region.
Fix it by making acpi_ex_opcode_1A_0T_1R () return Status right away
after a acpi_ex_read_data_from_field () failure.

The GPD win and its sibling the GPD pocket (99% the same electronics in a
different case) use a PCI wifi card. But the ACPI tables on both variants
contain a bug where the SDIO MMC controller for SDIO wifi cards is enabled
despite this. This SDIO MMC controller has a PCI0.SDHB.BRC1 child-device
which _PS3 method sets a GPIO causing the PCI wifi card to turn off.
At the moment there is a pretty ugly kludge in the sdhci-acpi.c code,
just to work around the bug in the DSDT of this single design. This can
be solved cleaner/simply with a quirk overriding the _STA return of the
broken PCI0.SDHB.BRC1 PCI0.SDHB.BRC1 child with a status value of 0,
so that its power_manageable flag gets cleared, avoiding this problem.
Note that even though it is not used, the _STA method for the MMC
controller is deliberately not overridden. If the status of the MMC
controller were forced to 0 it would never get suspended, which would
cause these mini-laptops to not reach S0i3 level when suspended.

The ACPI nodes also describe GPIOs to turn the GPS on/off these are
handled by the net/rfkill/rfkill-gpio.c code. This handling predates the
addition of enumeration of ACPI instantiated serdevs to the kernel and
was broken by that addition, because the ACPI scan code now no longer
instantiates platform_device-s for these nodes.
Rename the i2c_multi_instantiate_ids HID list to ignore_serial_bus_ids

The flushing of pending work in the EC driver uses drain_workqueue()
to flush the event handling work that can requeue itself via
advance_transaction(), but this is problematic, because that
work may also be requeued from the query workqueue.
Namely, if an EC transaction is carried out during the execution of
a query handler, it involves calling advance_transaction() which
may queue up the event handling work again. This causes the kernel
to complain about attempts to add a work item to the EC event
workqueue while it is being drained and worst-case it may cause a
valid event to be skipped.
To avoid this problem, introduce two new counters, events_in_progress
and queries_in_progress, incremented when a work item is queued on
the event workqueue or the query workqueue, respectively, and
decremented at the end of the corresponding work function, and make
acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() the workqueues in a loop until the both of
these counters are zero (or system wakeup is pending) instead of
calling acpi_ec_flush_work().
At the same time, change __acpi_ec_flush_work() to call
flush_workqueue() instead of drain_workqueue() to flush the event
workqueue.
While at it, use the observation that the work item queued in
acpi_ec_query() cannot be pending at that time, because it is used
only once, to simplify the code in there.
Additionally, clean up a comment in acpi_ec_query() and adjust white
space in acpi_ec_event_processor().

The handling of PMIC register reads through writing 0 to address 4
of the OpRegion is wrong. Instead of returning the read value
through the value64, which is a no-op for function == ACPI_WRITE calls,
store the value and then on a subsequent function == ACPI_READ with
address == 3 (the address for the value field of the OpRegion)
return the stored value.
This has been tested on a Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 and makes the ACPI battery dev
there mostly functional (unfortunately there are still other issues).
Here are the SET() / GET() functions of the PMIC ACPI device,
which use this OpRegion, which clearly show the new behavior to
be correct:

If an ACPI wakeup power resource is shared between multiple devices,
it may not be managed correctly.
Suppose, for example, that two devices, A and B, share a wakeup power
resource P whose wakeup_enabled flag is 0 initially. Next, suppose
that wakeup power is enabled for A and B, in this order, and disabled
for B. When wakeup power is enabled for A, P will be turned on and
its wakeup_enabled flag will be set. Next, when wakeup power is
enabled for B, P will not be touched, because its wakeup_enabled flag
is set. Now, when wakeup power is disabled for B, P will be turned
off which is incorrect, because A will still need P in order to signal
wakeup.
Moreover, if wakeup power is enabled for A and then disabled for B,
the latter will cause P to be turned off incorrectly (it will be still
needed by A), because acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() is allowed
to manipulate power resources when the wakeup.prepare_count counter
of the given device is 0.
While the first issue could be addressed by changing the
wakeup_enabled power resource flag into a counter, addressing the
second one requires modifying acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() to
do nothing when the target device's wakeup.prepare_count reference
counter is zero and that would cause the new counter to be redundant.
Namely, if acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() is modified as per the
above, every change of the new counter following a wakeup.prepare_count
change would be reflected by the analogous change of the main reference
counter of the given power resource.
Accordingly, modify acpi_disable_wakeup_device_power() to do nothing
when the target device's wakeup.prepare_count reference counter is
zero and drop the power resource wakeup_enabled flag altogether.
While at it, ensure that all of the power resources that can be
turned off will be turned off when disabling device wakeup due to
a power resource manipulation error, to prevent energy from being
wasted.

If an ACPI power resource is found to be "on" during the
initialization of the list of wakeup power resources of a device,
it is reference counted and its wakeup_enabled flag is set, which is
problematic if the deivce in question is the only user of the given
power resource, it is never runtime-suspended and it is not allowed
to wake up the system from sleep, because in that case the given
power resource will stay "on" until the system reboots and energy
will be wasted.
It is better to simply turn off wakeup power resources that are "on"
during the initialization unless their reference counters are not
zero, because that may be the only opportunity to prevent them from
staying in the "on" state all the time.

On some systems the ACPI namespace contains device objects that are
not used in certain configurations of the system. If they start off
in the D0 power state configuration, they will stay in it until the
system reboots, because of the lack of any mechanism possibly causing
their configuration to change. If that happens, they may prevent
some power resources from being turned off or generally they may
prevent the platform from getting into the deepest low-power states
thus causing some energy to be wasted.
Address this issue by changing the configuration of unused ACPI
device objects to the D3cold power state one after carrying out
the ACPI-based enumeration of devices.

capacity point of view. Make the fallback condition accepts capacities
over the designed capacity so userspace knows that is full.

ACPICA commit 0762982923f95eb652cf7ded27356b247c9774de
During wakeup from system-wide sleep states, acpi_get_sleep_type_data()
is called and it tries to get memory from the slab allocator in order
to evaluate a control method, but if KFENCE is enabled in the kernel,
the memory allocation attempt causes an IRQ work to be queued and a
self-IPI to be sent to the CPU running the code which requires the
memory controller to be ready, so if that happens too early in the
wakeup path, it doesn't work.
Prevent that from taking place by calling acpi_get_sleep_type_data()
for S0 upfront, when preparing to enter a given sleep state, and
saving the data obtained by it for later use during system wakeup.

The memory allocated from memblock is registered with kmemleak, but if
it is marked MEMBLOCK_NOMAP it won't have linear map entries so an
attempt to scan such areas will fault.
Ideally, memblock_mark_nomap() would inform kmemleak to ignore
MEMBLOCK_NOMAP memory, but it can be called before kmemleak interfaces
operating on physical addresses can use __va() conversion.
Make sure that functions that mark allocated memory as MEMBLOCK_NOMAP
take care of informing kmemleak to ignore such memory.

is no way for us to determine the memory attributes to use to map it -
defaulting to NormalNC does not work (and it is not correct on a memory

Let's group all memory we add for a single memory device - we want a
single node for that (which also seems to be the sane thing to do).
We won't care for now about memory that was already added to the system
(e.g., via e820) -- usually *all* memory of a memory device was already
added and we'll fail acpi_memory_enable_device().

There is only a single user remaining. We can simply lookup the nid only
used for node offlining purposes when walking our memory blocks. We don't
expect to remove multi-nid ranges; and if we'd ever do, we most probably
don't care about removing multi-nid ranges that actually result in empty
nodes.
If ever required, we can detect the "multi-nid" scenario and simply try
offlining all online nodes.

On some systems the nominal_perf value retrieved via CPPC is just
a constant and fetching it doesn't require accessing any registers,
so if it is the only CPPC capability that's needed, it is wasteful
to run cppc_get_perf_caps() in order to get just that value alone,
especially when this is done for CPUs other than the one running
the code.
For this reason, introduce cppc_get_nominal_perf() allowing
nominal_perf to be obtained individually, by generalizing the
existing cppc_get_desired_perf() (and renaming it) so it can be
used to retrieve any specific CPPC capability value.
While at it, clean up the cppc_get_desired_perf() kerneldoc comment
a bit.

...
There are a lot of uses of memblock_find_in_range() along with
memblock_reserve() from the times memblock allocation APIs did not exist.
memblock_find_in_range() is the very core of memblock allocations, so any
future changes to its internal behaviour would mandate updates of all the
users outside memblock.
Replace the calls to memblock_find_in_range() with an equivalent calls to
memblock_phys_alloc() and memblock_phys_alloc_range() and make
memblock_find_in_range() private method of memblock.
This simplifies the callers, ensures that (unlikely) errors in
memblock_reserve() are handled and improves maintainability of
memblock_find_in_range().

some updates to the basic clk types to use determine_rate for the
divider type and add a power of two fractional divider flag though.
Otherwise, this is a collection of clk driver updates. More than half
the diffstat is in the Qualcomm clk driver where we add a bunch of data
to describe clks on various SoCs and fix bugs. The other big new thing
in here is the Mediatek MT8192 clk driver. That's been under review for
a while and it's nice to see that it's finally upstream.
Beyond that it's the usual set of minor fixes and tweaks to clk drivers.
There are some non-clk driver bits in here which have all been acked by
the respective maintainers.
New Drivers:

- Add display (DU and DSI) clocks on Renesas R-Car V3U
- Add I2C, DMAC, USB, sound (SSIF-2), GPIO, CANFD, and ADC clocks and

It was reported that on "HP ENVY x360" that power LED does not come
back, certain keys like brightness controls do not work, and the fan
never spins up, even under load on 5.14 final.
In analysis of the SSDT it's clear that the Microsoft UUID doesn't
provide functional support, but rather the AMD UUID should be
supporting this system.
Because this is a gap in the expected logic, we checked back with
internal team. The conclusion was that on Windows AMD uPEP *does*
run even when Microsoft UUID present, but most OEM systems have
adopted value of "0x3" for supported functions and hence nothing
runs.
Henceforth add support for running both Microsoft and AMD methods.
This approach will also allow the same logic on Intel systems if
desired at a future time as well by pulling the evaluation of
`lps0_dsm_func_mask_microsoft` out of the `if` block for
`acpi_s2idle_vendor_amd`.

Here is the big set of driver core patches for 5.15-rc1.
These do change a number of different things across different
subsystems, and because of that, there were 2 stable tags created that
might have already come into your tree from different pulls that did the
following
- changed the bus remove callback to return void
- sysfs iomem_get_mapping rework
The latter one will cause a tiny merge issue with your tree, as there
was a last-minute fix for this in 5.14 in your tree, but the fixup
should be "obvious". If you want me to provide a fixed merge for this,
please let me know.
Other than those two things, there's only a few small things in here:
- kernfs performance improvements for huge numbers of sysfs
users at once
- tiny api cleanups
- other minor changes

the following
- changed the bus remove callback to return void

The Lenovo Yoga 9 (14INTL5)'s ACPI _LID is bugged:
After hibernation the lid is initially reported as closed.
Once closing and then reopening the lid reports the lid as

In order fo the Linux LID code to handle this device properly

The memory attributes attached to memory regions depend on architecture
specific mappings.
For some memory regions, the attributes specified by firmware (eg
uncached) are not sufficient to determine how a memory region should be
mapped by an OS (for instance a region that is define as uncached in
firmware can be mapped as Normal or Device memory on arm64) and
therefore the OS must be given control on how to map the region to match
the expected mapping behaviour (eg if a mapping is requested with memory
semantics, it must allow unaligned accesses).
Rework acpi_os_map_memory() and acpi_os_ioremap() back-end to split
them into two separate code paths:
acpi_os_memmap() -> memory semantics
acpi_os_ioremap() -> MMIO semantics
The split allows the architectural implementation back-ends to detect
the default memory attributes required by the mapping in question
(ie the mapping API defines the semantics memory vs MMIO) and map the
memory accordingly.

Drivers like thinkpad_acpi and ideapad_laptop call the
platform_profile_notify() helper when the profile is changed by hardware
(the embedded-controller/EC) in response to an EC handled hotkey.
This allows userspace to monitor for such changes by polling for POLLPRI
on the platform_profile sysfs file. But the profile can also be changed
underneath a userspace program monitoring it by anonther userspace program
storing a new value.
Add a sysfs_notify() call to platform_profile_store(), so that userspace
programs monitoring for changes also get notified in this case.
Also update the documentation to document that POLLPRI polling can be
used to watch for changes.

Fix the NFIT parsing code to treat a 0 index in a SPA Range Structure as
a special case and not match Region Mapping Structures that use 0 to
indicate that they are not mapped. Without this fix some platform BIOS
descriptions of "virtual disk" ranges do not result in the pmem driver
attaching to the range.
Details:
In addition to typical persistent memory ranges, the ACPI NFIT may also
convey "virtual" ranges. These ranges are indicated by a UUID in the SPA
Range Structure of UUID_VOLATILE_VIRTUAL_DISK, UUID_VOLATILE_VIRTUAL_CD,
UUID_PERSISTENT_VIRTUAL_DISK, or UUID_PERSISTENT_VIRTUAL_CD. The
critical difference between virtual ranges and UUID_PERSISTENT_MEMORY,
is that virtual do not support associations with Region Mapping
Structures. For this reason the "index" value of virtual SPA Range
Structures is allowed to be 0. If a platform BIOS decides to represent
NVDIMMs with disconnected "Region Mapping Structures" (range-index ==
0), the kernel may falsely associate them with standalone ranges where
the "SPA Range Structure Index" is also zero. When this happens the
driver may falsely require labels where "virtual disks" are expected to
be label-less. I.e. "label-less" is where the namespace-range ==
region-range and the pmem driver attaches with no user action to create
a namespace.

The current assumption that methods to read PCH FIVR attributes will
return integer, is not correct. There is no good way to return integer
as negative numbers are also valid.
These read methods return a package of integers. The first integer returns
status, which is 0 on success and any other value for failure. When the
returned status is zero, then the second integer returns the actual value.
This change fixes this issue by replacing acpi_evaluate_integer() with
acpi_evaluate_object() and use acpi_extract_package() to extract results.

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

The I2C-bus to the XPower AXP288 is shared between the Linux kernel and
the SoCs P-Unit. The P-Unit has a semaphore which the kernel must "lock"
before it may use the bus and while the kernel holds the semaphore the CPU
and GPU power-states must not be changed otherwise the system will freeze.
This is a complex process, which is quite expensive. This is all done by
iosf_mbi_block_punit_i2c_access(). To ensure that no unguarded I2C-bus
accesses happen, iosf_mbi_block_punit_i2c_access() gets called by the
I2C-bus-driver for every I2C transfer. Because this is so expensive it
is allowed to call iosf_mbi_block_punit_i2c_access() in a nested
fashion, so that higher-level code which does multiple I2C-transfers can
call it once for a group of transfers, turning the calls done by the
I2C-bus-driver into no-ops.
The default exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element implementation from
drivers/acpi/pmic/intel_pmic.c does a regmap_update_bits() call and
the involved registers are typically marked as volatile in the regmap,
so this leads to 2 I2C-bus accesses.
Add a XPower AXP288 specific implementation of exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element
which calls iosf_mbi_block_punit_i2c_access() calls before the
regmap_update_bits() call to avoid having to do the whole expensive
acquire P-Unit semaphore dance twice.

Add iosf_mbi_block_punit_i2c_access() calls around groups of register
accesses, so that the P-Unit semaphore only needs to be taken once
for each group of register accesses.

When using s2idle on a variety of AMD notebook systems, they are
experiencing spurious events that the EC or SMU are in the wrong
state leading to a hard time waking up or higher than expected
power consumption.
These events only occur when the EC GPE is inadvertently set as a wakeup
source. Originally the EC GPE was only set as a wakeup source when using
the intel-vbtn or intel-hid drivers in commit 10a08fd65e ("ACPI: PM:
Set up EC GPE for system wakeup from drivers that need it") but during
testing a reporter discovered that this was not enough for their ASUS
Zenbook UX430UNR/i7-8550U to wakeup by lid event or keypress.
Marking the EC GPE for wakeup universally resolved this for that
reporter in commit b90ff3554a ("ACPI: PM: s2idle: Always set up EC GPE
for system wakeup").
However this behavior has lead to a number of problems:
* On both Lenovo T14 and P14s the keyboard wakeup doesn't work, and
sometimes the power button event doesn't work.
As there may be other Intel systems besides ASUS Zenbook UX430UNR/i7-8550U
that don't use intel-vbtn or intel-hid, avoid these problems by only
universally marking the EC GPE wakesource on non-AMD systems.

The Dell Vostro 3350 ACPI video-bus device reports spurious
ACPI_VIDEO_NOTIFY_CYCLE events resulting in spurious KEY_SWITCHVIDEOMODE
events being reported to userspace (and causing trouble there).
Add a quirk setting the report_key_events mask to
REPORT_BRIGHTNESS_KEY_EVENTS so that the ACPI_VIDEO_NOTIFY_CYCLE
events will be ignored, while still reporting brightness up/down
hotkey-presses to userspace normally.

The ACPI Virtual I/O Translation Table describes topology of
para-virtual platforms, similarly to vendor tables DMAR, IVRS and IORT.
For now it describes the relation between virtio-iommu and the endpoints
it manages.
Three steps are needed to configure DMA of endpoints:
(1) acpi_viot_init(): parse the VIOT table, find or create the fwnode
associated to each vIOMMU device. This needs to happen after
acpi_scan_init(), because it relies on the struct device and their
fwnode to be available.
(2) When probing the vIOMMU device, the driver registers its IOMMU ops
within the IOMMU subsystem. This step doesn't require any
intervention from the VIOT driver.
(3) viot_iommu_configure(): before binding the endpoint to a driver,
find the associated IOMMU ops. Register them, along with the
endpoint ID, into the device's iommu_fwspec.
If step (3) happens before step (2), it is deferred until the IOMMU is
initialized, then retried.

Currently ACPI power domain brings devices into D0 state in the "resume
early" phase. Normally this does not cause any issues, as powering up
happens quickly. However there are peripherals that have certain timing
requirements for powering on, for example some models of Elan
touchscreens need 300msec after powering up/releasing reset line before
they can accept commands from the host. Such devices will dominate
the time spent in early resume phase and cause increase in overall
resume time as we wait for early resume to complete before we can
proceed to the normal resume stage.
There are ways for a driver to indicate that it can tolerate device
being in the low power mode and that it knows how to power the device
back up when resuming, bit that requires changes to individual drivers
that may not really care about details of ACPI controlled power
management.
This change attempts to solve this issue at ACPI power domain level, by
postponing powering up device until we get to the normal resume stage,
unless there is early resume handler defined for the device, or device
does not declare any resume handlers, in which case we continue powering
up such devices early. This allows us to shave off several hundred
milliseconds of resume time on affected systems.

A custom DSDT file is mostly used during development or debugging,
and in that case it is quite likely to want to rebuild the kernel
after changing ONLY the content of the DSDT.
This patch adds the custom DSDT as a prerequisite to tables.o
to ensure a rebuild if the DSDT file is updated. Make will merge
the prerequisites from multiple rules for the same target.
