Pull irq updates from Thomas Gleixner:
- Consolidation of softirq pending:
The softirq mask and its accessors/mutators have many implementations
scattered around many architectures. Most do the same things
consisting in a field in a per-cpu struct (often irq_cpustat_t)
accessed through per-cpu ops. We can provide instead a generic
efficient version that most of them can use. In fact s390 is the only
exception because the field is stored in lowcore.
- Support for level!?! triggered MSI (ARM)
Over the past couple of years, we've seen some SoCs coming up with
ways of signalling level interrupts using a new flavor of MSIs, where
the MSI controller uses two distinct messages: one that raises a
virtual line, and one that lowers it. The target MSI controller is in
charge of maintaining the state of the line.
This allows for a much simplified HW signal routing (no need to have
hundreds of discrete lines to signal level interrupts if you already
have a memory bus), but results in a departure from the current idea
the kernel has of MSIs.

Intel Wired LAN Driver Updates 2018-06-04
This series contains a smorgasbord of updates to documentation, e1000e,
igb, ixgbe, ixgbevf and i40e.
Benjamin Poirier fixes a potential kernel crash due to NULL pointer
dereference in e1000e.
Jeff updates the kernel documentation for e100 and e1000 to correct
default values and URLs which were incorrect in the documentation. Also
took the time to update these to the new reStructured text format for
kernel documentation.
Joanna Yurdal fixes a missing PTP transmit timestamp by ensuring that
TSICR gets cleared when ICR is cleared.
Sergey updates igb to reset all the transmit queues at one time so that
we only have to wait once for all the queues to be reset.
Alex fixes ixgbevf so that malicious driver detection (MDD) can co-exist
with XDP.
Emil and Tony extend the RTNL lock to ensure we get the most up-to-date
values for the bits and avoid a possible race condition when going down.
YueHaibing from Huawei introduces a helper function in ixgbe for
operation reads to simplify the code a bit more.
Daniel Borkmann adds support for XDP meta data when using build SKB
for i40e.
Shannon Nelson provides twp fixes for the IPSec code in ixgbe, first is
to make sure we do not try to offload the decryption of any incoming
packet that is destined for the management engine. The other fix is to
resolve a cast problem introduced by a sparse cleanup patch.

This changes the /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_tw_reuse from a boolean
to an integer.
It now takes the values 0, 1 and 2, where 0 and 1 behave as before,
while 2 enables timewait socket reuse only for sockets that we can
prove are loopback connections:
ie. bound to 'lo' interface or where one of source or destination
IPs is 127.0.0.0/8, ::ffff:127.0.0.0/104 or ::1.
This enables quicker reuse of ephemeral ports for loopback connections
- where tcp_tw_reuse is 100% safe from a protocol perspective
(this assumes no artificially induced packet loss on 'lo').
This also makes estblishing many loopback connections *much* faster
(allocating ports out of the first half of the ephemeral port range
is significantly faster, then allocating from the second half)
Without this change in a 32K ephemeral port space my sample program
(it just establishes and closes [::1]:ephemeral -> [::1]:server_port
connections in a tight loop) fails after 32765 connections in 24 seconds.
With it enabled 50000 connections only take 4.7 seconds.
This is particularly problematic for IPv6 where we only have one local
address and cannot play tricks with varying source IP from 127.0.0.0/8
pool.

Currently, AF_XDP only supports a fixed frame-size memory scheme where
each frame is referenced via an index (idx). A user passes the frame
index to the kernel, and the kernel acts upon the data. Some NICs,
however, do not have a fixed frame-size model, instead they have a
model where a memory window is passed to the hardware and multiple
frames are filled into that window (referred to as the "type-writer"
model).
By changing the descriptor format from the current frame index
addressing scheme, AF_XDP can in the future be extended to support
these kinds of NICs.
In the index-based model, an idx refers to a frame of size
frame_size. Addressing a frame in the UMEM is done by offseting the
UMEM starting address by a global offset, idx * frame_size + offset.
Communicating via the fill- and completion-rings are done by means of
idx.
In this commit, the idx is removed in favor of an address (addr),
which is a relative address ranging over the UMEM. To convert an
idx-based address to the new addr is simply: addr = idx * frame_size +
offset.
We also stop referring to the UMEM "frame" as a frame. Instead it is
simply called a chunk.
To transfer ownership of a chunk to the kernel, the addr of the chunk
is passed in the fill-ring. Note, that the kernel will mask addr to
make it chunk aligned, so there is no need for userspace to do
that. E.g., for a chunk size of 2k, passing an addr of 2048, 2050 or
3000 to the fill-ring will refer to the same chunk.
On the completion-ring, the addr will match that of the Tx descriptor,
passed to the kernel.
Changing the descriptor format to use chunks/addr will allow for
future changes to move to a type-writer based model, where multiple
frames can reside in one chunk. In this model passing one single chunk
into the fill-ring, would potentially result in multiple Rx
descriptors.
This commit changes the uapi of AF_XDP sockets, and updates the
documentation.

The issue is caused as on Power-8 the AFU attr 'prefault_mode' was
used to improve initial storage fault performance by prefaulting
process segments. However on Power-9 with radix mode we don't have
Storage-Segments that we can prefault. Also prefaulting process Pages
will be too costly and fine-grained.
Hence, since the prefaulting mechanism doesn't makes sense of
radix-mode, this patch updates prefault_mode_store() to not allow any
other value apart from CXL_PREFAULT_NONE when radix mode is enabled.

The simple-card driver currently accepts a clock node in the cpu dai
sub-node and only uses it as an alternative to the
'system-clock-frequency' property to get the current frequency.
This patch adds another use of the passed clock node. If mclk-fs is
specified, the clocks in cpu and codec dai sub-nodes will be set to
the calculated rate (stream rate * mclk_fs) in hw_params.
This allows platforms to pass tuneable clocks as phandle that will
automatically be set to the right rates.

Currently, the USB hub core waits for 50 ms after enumerating the
device. This was added to help "some high speed devices" to
enumerate (b789696af8 "[PATCH] USB: relax usbcore reset timings").
On some devices, the time-to-active is important, so we provide
a per-port option to reduce the time to what the USB specification
requires: 10 ms.

The "old" enumeration scheme is considerably faster (it takes
~244ms instead of ~356ms to get the descriptor).
It is currently only possible to use the old scheme globally
(/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/old_scheme_first), which is not
desirable as the new scheme was introduced to increase compatibility
with more devices.
However, in our case, we care about time-to-active for a specific
USB device (which we make the firmware for), on a specific port
(that is pogo-pin based: not a standard USB port). This new
sysfs option makes it possible to use the old scheme on a single
port only.

Currently, USB-audio driver allocates the PCM buffer via vmalloc(), as
this serves merely as an intermediate buffer that is copied to each
URB transfer buffer. This works well in general on x86, but on some
archs this may result in cache coherency issues when mmap is used.
OTOH, it works also on such arch unless mmap is used.
This patch is a step for mitigating the inconvenience; a new module
option "use_vmalloc" is provided so that user can choose to allocate
the DMA coherent buffer instead of the existing vmalloc buffer.
The drawback is that it'd be the standard dma_alloc_coherent() calls
and the system would require contiguous pages on non-x86 archs.
Note that it's a global option and not dynamically switchable since
the buffer is pre-allocated at the probe time. In theory, it's
possible to be switchable, but it'd be trickier and racier.
As default use_vmalloc option is set to true, so that the old behavior
is kept. For allowing the coherent mmap on ARM or MIPS, pass
use_vmalloc=0 option explicitly.

This patch enables virtio_net to switch over to a VF datapath when STANDBY
feature is enabled and a VF netdev is present with the same MAC address.
It allows live migration of a VM with a direct attached VF without the need
to setup a bond/team between a VF and virtio net device in the guest.
It uses the API that is exported by the net_failover driver to create and
and destroy a master failover netdev. When STANDBY feature is enabled, an
additional netdev(failover netdev) is created that acts as a master device
and tracks the state of the 2 lower netdevs. The original virtio_net netdev
is marked as 'standby' netdev and a passthru device with the same MAC is
registered as 'primary' netdev.
The hypervisor needs to unplug the VF device from the guest on the source
host and reset the MAC filter of the VF to initiate failover of datapath
to virtio before starting the migration. After the migration is completed,
the destination hypervisor sets the MAC filter on the VF and plugs it back
to the guest to switch over to VF datapath.
This patch is based on the discussion initiated by Jesse on this thread.

The net_failover driver provides an automated failover mechanism via APIs
to create and destroy a failover master netdev and manages a primary and
standby slave netdevs that get registered via the generic failover
infrastructure.
The failover netdev acts a master device and controls 2 slave devices. The
original paravirtual interface gets registered as 'standby' slave netdev and
a passthru/vf device with the same MAC gets registered as 'primary' slave
netdev. Both 'standby' and 'failover' netdevs are associated with the same
'pci' device. The user accesses the network interface via 'failover' netdev.
The 'failover' netdev chooses 'primary' netdev as default for transmits when
it is available with link up and running.
This can be used by paravirtual drivers to enable an alternate low latency
datapath. It also enables hypervisor controlled live migration of a VM with
direct attached VF by failing over to the paravirtual datapath when the VF
is unplugged.

The failover module provides a generic interface for paravirtual drivers
to register a netdev and a set of ops with a failover instance. The ops
are used as event handlers that get called to handle netdev register/
unregister/link change/name change events on slave pci ethernet devices
with the same mac address as the failover netdev.
This enables paravirtual drivers to use a VF as an accelerated low latency
datapath. It also allows migration of VMs with direct attached VFs by
failing over to the paravirtual datapath when the VF is unplugged.

Add a document for the macro language introduced to Kconfig.
The motivation of this work is to move the compiler option tests to
Kconfig from Makefile. A number of kernel features require the
compiler support. Enabling such features blindly in Kconfig ends up
with a lot of nasty build-time testing in Makefiles. If a chosen
feature turns out unsupported by the compiler, what the build system
can do is either to disable it (silently!) or to forcibly break the
build, despite Kconfig has let the user to enable it. By moving the
compiler capability tests to Kconfig, features unsupported by the
compiler will be hidden automatically.
This change was strongly prompted by Linus Torvalds. You can find
his suggestions [1] [2] in ML. The original idea was to add a new
attribute with 'option shell=...', but I found more generalized text
expansion would make Kconfig more powerful and lovely. The basic
ideas are from Make, but there are some differences.

To get access to environment variables, Kconfig needs to define a
symbol using "option env=" syntax. It is tedious to add a symbol entry
for each environment variable given that we need to define much more
such as 'CC', 'AS', 'srctree' etc. to evaluate the compiler capability
in Kconfig.
Adding '$' for symbol references is grammatically inconsistent.
Looking at the code, the symbols prefixed with 'S' are expanded by:
- conf_expand_value()
This is used to expand 'arch/$ARCH/defconfig' and 'defconfig_list'
- sym_expand_string_value()
This is used to expand strings in 'source' and 'mainmenu'
All of them are fixed values independent of user configuration. So,
they can be changed into the direct expansion instead of symbols.
This change makes the code much cleaner. The bounce symbols 'SRCARCH',
'ARCH', 'SUBARCH', 'KERNELVERSION' are gone.
sym_init() hard-coding 'UNAME_RELEASE' is also gone. 'UNAME_RELEASE'
should be replaced with an environment variable.
ARCH_DEFCONFIG is a normal symbol, so it should be simply referenced
without '$' prefix.
The new syntax is addicted by Make. The variable reference needs
parentheses, like $(FOO), but you can omit them for single-letter
variables, like $F. Yet, in Makefiles, people tend to use the
parenthetical form for consistency / clarification.
At this moment, only the environment variable is supported, but I will
extend the concept of 'variable' later on.
The variables are expanded in the lexer so we can simplify the token
handling on the parser side.
For example, the following code works.
[Example code]
config MY_TOOLCHAIN_LIST
string
default "My tools: CC=$(CC), AS=$(AS), CPP=$(CPP)"
[Result]
$ make -s alldefconfig && tail -n 1 .config
CONFIG_MY_TOOLCHAIN_LIST="My tools: CC=gcc, AS=as, CPP=gcc -E"

->get_poll_head returns the waitqueue that the poll operation is going
to sleep on. Note that this means we can only use a single waitqueue
for the poll, unlike some current drivers that use two waitqueues for
different events. But now that we have keyed wakeups and heavily use
those for poll there aren't that many good reason left to keep the
multiple waitqueues, and if there are any ->poll is still around, the
driver just won't support aio poll.

Having two somewhat similar and largely overlapping APIs is confusing,
especially since the older one appears in the docs before the newer
and most featureful counterpart.
Clarify all of this in several ways:
- swap the two sections
- give a name to the two APIs in the section names
- add a note at the beginning of the CROP API section
- update note about VIDIOC_CROPCAP
Also remove a note that is incorrect (correct wording is in
vidioc-cropcap.rst).

We introduce a new KVM_VGIC_V3_ADDR_TYPE_REDIST_REGION attribute in

Compared to KVM_VGIC_V3_ADDR_TYPE_REDIST, this new attribute allows
to declare several separate redistributor regions.
So the whole redist space does not need to be contiguous anymore.

The PPPIOCDETACH ioctl effectively tries to "close" the given ppp file
before f_count has reached 0, which is fundamentally a bad idea. It
does check 'f_count < 2', which excludes concurrent operations on the
file since they would only be possible with a shared fd table, in which
case each fdget() would take a file reference. However, it fails to
account for the fact that even with 'f_count == 1' the file can still be
linked into epoll instances. As reported by syzbot, this can trivially
be used to cause a use-after-free.
Yet, the only known user of PPPIOCDETACH is pppd versions older than
ppp-2.4.2, which was released almost 15 years ago (November 2003).
Also, PPPIOCDETACH apparently stopped working reliably at around the
same time, when the f_count check was added to the kernel, e.g. see
https://lkml.org/lkml/2002/12/31/83. Also, the current 'f_count < 2'
check makes PPPIOCDETACH only work in single-threaded applications; it
always fails if called from a multithreaded application.
All pppd versions released in the last 15 years just close() the file
descriptor instead.
Therefore, instead of hacking around this bug by exporting epoll
internals to modules, and probably missing other related bugs, just
remove the PPPIOCDETACH ioctl and see if anyone actually notices. Leave
a stub in place that prints a one-time warning and returns EINVAL.
