Masahiro Yamada a7f7f6248d treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'
Since commit 84af7a6194 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

There are a variety of indentation styles found.

  a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
  b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
  c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
  d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
  e) 1 tab + '---help---'    (correct indentation)
  f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
  g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'

In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:

  $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

Miroslav Lichvar 5515e9a627 drivers/pps/pps.c: clear offset flags in PPS_SETPARAMS ioctl
The PPS assert/clear offset corrections are set by the PPS_SETPARAMS
ioctl in the pps_ktime structs, which also contain flags. The flags are
not initialized by applications (using the timepps.h header) and they
are not used by the kernel for anything except returning them back in
the PPS_GETPARAMS ioctl.

Set the flags to zero to make it clear they are unused and avoid leaking
uninitialized data of the PPS_SETPARAMS caller to other applications
that have a read access to the PPS device.

Masahiro Yamada 8636a1f967 treewide: surround Kconfig file paths with double quotes
The Kconfig lexer supports special characters such as '.' and '/' in
the parameter context. In my understanding, the reason is just to
support bare file paths in the source statement.

I do not see a good reason to complicate Kconfig for the room of
ambiguity.

The majority of code already surrounds file paths with double quotes,
and it makes sense since file paths are constant string literals.

Make it treewide consistent now.

Linus Torvalds a9a08845e9 vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacement
This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:

    for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
        L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
        for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
    done

with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.

NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

Arnd Bergmann 28f3a488ed pps: parport: use timespec64 instead of timespec
getnstimeofday() is deprecated, so I'm converting this to use
ktime_get_real_ts64() as a safe replacement. I considered using
ktime_get_real() instead, but since the algorithm here depends on the
exact timing, I decided to introduce fewer changes and leave the code
that determines the nanoseconds since the last seconds wrap untouched.

It's not entirely clear to me whether we should also change the time
base to CLOCK_BOOTTIME or CLOCK_TAI. With boottime, we would be
independent of changes due to settimeofday() and only see the speed
adjustment from the upstream clock source, with the downside of having
the signal be at an arbirary offset from the start of the UTC second
signal. With CLOCK_TAI, we would use the same offset from the UTC
second as before and still suffer from settimeofday() adjustments, but
would be less confused during leap seconds.

Both boottime and tai only offer usable (i.e. avoiding ktime_t to
timespec64 conversion) interfaces for ktime_t though, so either way,
changing it wouldn't take significantly more work. CLOCK_MONOTONIC
could be used with ktime_get_ts64(), but would lose synchronization
across a suspend/resume cycle, which seems worse.

Kees Cook e99e88a9d2 treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using
timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already
holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes,
since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with
the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following
examples, in addition to some other variations.

Casting from unsigned long:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr);

and forced object casts:

    void my_callback(struct something *ptr)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr);

become:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

Direct function assignments:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback;

have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback;

And finally, callbacks without a data assignment:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script:

spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \
	-I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \
	-I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \

Jiri Slaby 368301f2fe pps: do not crash when failed to register
With this command sequence:

  modprobe plip
  modprobe pps_parport
  rmmod pps_parport

the partport_pps modules causes this crash:

  BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)
  IP: parport_detach+0x1d/0x60 [pps_parport]

  ...
  Call Trace:
    parport_unregister_driver+0x65/0xc0 [parport]
    SyS_delete_module+0x187/0x210

The sequence that builds up to this is:

 1) plip is loaded and takes the parport device for exclusive use:

    plip0: Parallel port at 0x378, using IRQ 7.

 2) pps_parport then fails to grab the device:

    pps_parport: parallel port PPS client
    parport0: cannot grant exclusive access for device pps_parport
    pps_parport: couldn't register with parport0

 3) rmmod of pps_parport is then killed because it tries to access
    pardev->name, but pardev (taken from port->cad) is NULL.

So add a check for NULL in the test there too.

Arnd Bergmann ade1bdffe9 ntp/pps: use y2038 safe types in pps_event_time
The pps_event_time uses two 'timespec' structures internally, which
suffer from the y2038 problem. The uses of this structure are
fairly self-contained in the pps code, so this replaces them all at
once.

Unfortunately, this includes the sfc ethernet driver aside from the
pps subsystem, so we change that one as well. Both touch the
same data structure, and there probably is no good way to split
the patch into smaller units.

Arnd Bergmann 7ec88e4be4 ntp/pps: use timespec64 for hardpps()
There is only one user of the hardpps function in the kernel, so
it makes sense to atomically change it over to using 64-bit
timestamps for y2038 safety. In the hardpps implementation,
we also need to change the pps_normtime structure, which is
similar to struct timespec and also requires a 64-bit
seconds portion.

This introduces two temporary variables in pps_kc_event() to
do the conversion, they will be removed again in the next step,
which seemed preferable to having a larger patch changing it
all at the same time.

George Spelvin 593fb1ae45 pps: Move timestamp read into PPS code proper
The PPS (Pulse-Per-Second) line discipline has developed a number of
unhealthy attachments to core tty data and functions, ultimately leading
to its breakage.

The previous patches fixed the crashing. This one reduces coupling further
by eliminating the timestamp parameter from the dcd_change ldisc method.
This reduces header file linkage and makes the extension more generic,
and the timestamp read is delayed only slightly, from just before the
ldisc->ops->dcd_change method call to just after.

George Spelvin 513b032c98 pps: Add pps_lookup_dev() function
The PPS serial line discipline wants to attach a PPS device to a tty
without changing the tty code to add a struct pps_device * pointer.

Since the number of PPS devices in a typical system is generally very low
(n=1 is by far the most common), it's practical to search the entire list
of allocated pps devices. (We capture the timestamp before the lookup,
so the timing isn't affected.)

It is a bit ugly that this function, which is part of the in-kernel
PPS API, has to be in pps.c as opposed to kapi,c, but that's not
something that affects users.

Joe Millenbach 4f73bc4dd3 tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTY
The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.

The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 0fe763c570 Drivers: misc: remove __dev* attributes.
CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev*
markings need to be removed.

This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata,
__devinitconst, and __devexit from these drivers.

Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me
in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.

Ben Hutchings c56283034c pps, ptp: Remove dependencies on EXPERIMENTAL
These are now established subsystems, and we want drivers to be able
to select PPS and PTP_1588_CLOCK without depending on EXPERIMENTAL.
Further, the use of EXPERIMENTAL is now deprecated in general.

Emil Goode 668f06b9fb pps: return PTR_ERR on error in device_create
We should return PTR_ERR if the call to the device_create function fails.
Without this patch we instead return the value from a successful call to

James Nuss 161520451d pps: new client driver using GPIO
This client driver allows you to use a GPIO pin as a source for PPS
signals. Platform data [1] are used to specify the GPIO pin number,
label, assert event edge type, and whether clear events are captured.

This driver is based on the work by Ricardo Martins who submitted an
initial implementation [2] of a PPS IRQ client driver to the linuxpps
mailing-list on Dec 3 2010.
