the local caching API for network filesystems. This set consists of
two parts:
(1) Add a helper library to handle the new VM readahead interface.
This is intended to be used unconditionally by the filesystem
(whether or not caching is enabled) and provides a common
framework for doing caching, transparent huge pages and, in the
future, possibly fscrypt and read bandwidth maximisation. It also
allows the netfs and the cache to align, expand and slice up a
read request from the VM in various ways; the netfs need only
provide a function to read a stretch of data to the pagecache and
the helper takes care of the rest.
(2) Add an alternative fscache/cachfiles I/O API that uses the kiocb
facility to do async DIO to transfer data to/from the netfs's
pages, rather than using readpage with wait queue snooping on one
side and vfs_write() on the other. It also uses less memory, since
it doesn't do buffered I/O on the backing file.
Note that this uses SEEK_HOLE/SEEK_DATA to locate the data
available to be read from the cache. Whilst this is an improvement
from the bmap interface, it still has a problem with regard to a
modern extent-based filesystem inserting or removing bridging
blocks of zeros. Fixing that requires a much greater overhaul.
This is a step towards overhauling the fscache API. The change is
opt-in on the part of the network filesystem. A netfs should not try
to mix the old and the new API because of conflicting ways of handling
pages and the PG_fscache page flag and because it would be mixing DIO
with buffered I/O. Further, the helper library can't be used with the
old API.
This does not change any of the fscache cookie handling APIs or the
way invalidation is done at this time.
In the near term, I intend to deprecate and remove the old I/O API
(fscache_allocate_page{,s}(), fscache_read_or_alloc_page{,s}(),
fscache_write_page() and fscache_uncache_page()) and eventually
replace most of fscache/cachefiles with something simpler and easier
to follow.
This patchset contains the following parts:
- Some helper patches, including provision of an ITER_XARRAY iov
iterator and a function to do readahead expansion.
- Patches to add the netfs helper library.
- A patch to add the fscache/cachefiles kiocb API.
- A pair of patches to fix some review issues in the ITER_XARRAY and
read helpers as spotted by Al and Willy.
Jeff Layton has patches to add support in Ceph for this that he
intends for this merge window. I have a set of patches to support AFS
that I will post a separate pull request for.
With this, AFS without a cache passes all expected xfstests; with a

passes the expected tests.

I found it confusing that the MR_EVENT class displays the mr.id but
the associated COMPLETION_EVENT class displays a cid (that happens
to contain the mr.id!). To make it a little easier on humans who
have to read and interpret these events, create an MR_COMPLETION
class that displays the mr.id in the same way as the MR_EVENT class.

The Send signaling logic is a little subtle, so add some
observability around it. For every xprtrdma_mr_fastreg event, there
should be an xprtrdma_mr_localinv or xprtrdma_mr_reminv event.
When these tracepoints are enabled, we can see exactly when an MR is
DMA-mapped, registered, invalidated (either locally or remotely) and
then DMA-unmapped.

Note that I've moved the xprtrdma_post_send tracepoint so that event

the event log looks counterintuitive (FastReg is always supposed to

Better not to touch MRs involved in a flush or post error until the
Send and Receive Queues are drained and the transport is fully
quiescent. Simply don't insert such MRs back onto the free list.
They remain on mr_all and will be released when the connection is
torn down.
I had thought that recycling would prevent hardware resources from
being tied up for a long time. However, since v5.7, a transport
disconnect destroys the QP and other hardware-owned resources. The
MRs get cleaned up nicely at that point.

When a file gets deleted on a zoned file system, the space freed is not
returned back into the block group's free space, but is migrated to
zone_unusable.
As this zone_unusable space is behind the current write pointer it is not
possible to use it for new allocations. In the current implementation a
zone is reset once all of the block group's space is accounted as zone
unusable.
This behaviour can lead to premature ENOSPC errors on a busy file system.
Instead of only reclaiming the zone once it is completely unusable,
kick off a reclaim job once the amount of unusable bytes exceeds a user
configurable threshold between 51% and 100%. It can be set per mounted
filesystem via the sysfs tunable bg_reclaim_threshold which is set to 75%
by default.
Similar to reclaiming unused block groups, these dirty block groups are
added to a to_reclaim list and then on a transaction commit, the reclaim
process is triggered but after we deleted unused block groups, which will
free space for the relocation process.

Remove x86's trace_kvm_age_page() tracepoint. It's mostly redundant with
the common trace_kvm_age_hva() tracepoint, and if there is a need for the
extra details, e.g. gfn, referenced, etc... those details should be added
to the common tracepoint so that all architectures and MMUs benefit from
the info.

Move arm64's MMU notifier trace events into common code in preparation
for doing the hva->gfn lookup in common code. The alternative would be
to trace the gfn instead of hva, but that's not obviously better and
could also be done in common code. Tracing the notifiers is also quite
handy for debug regardless of architecture.
Remove a completely redundant tracepoint from PPC e500.

This tracepoint can crash when dereferencing snd_task because
when some transports connect, they put a cookie in that field

A separate tracepoint can be left enabled all the time to capture
rare but important retransmission events. So for example:

Sometimes we need to get the corresponding gendisk from request_queue.
It is preferred that block drivers store private data in
gendisk->private_data rather than request_queue->queuedata, e.g. see:
commit c4a59c4e5d ("dm: stop using ->queuedata").
So if only request_queue is given, we need to get its corresponding
gendisk to get the private data stored in that gendisk.

A number of tracepoint instances have been removed from ext4 by past
patches but the definitions of those tracepoints have not.
All instances of ext4_ext_in_cache and ext4_ext_put_in_cache were
removed by commit 69eb33dc24 ("ext4: remove single extent cache").
ext4_get_reserved_cluster_alloc was removed by commit b6bf9171ef
("ext4: reduce reserved cluster count by number of allocated
clusters"). ext4_find_delalloc_range was removed by commit
7d1b1fbc95 ("ext4: reimplement ext4_find_delay_alloc_range on extent
status tree").
All instances of ext4_direct_IO_enter and ext4_direct_IO_exit were
removed by commit 378f32bab3 ("ext4: introduce direct I/O write
using iomap infrastructure").

The trace event "workqueue_queue_work" references an unsafe string in
dereferencing the name of the workqueue. As the name is allocated, it
could later be freed, and the pointer to that string could stay on the
tracing buffer. If the trace buffer is read after the string is freed, it
will reference an unsafe pointer.
I added a new verifier to make sure that all strings referenced in the
output of the trace buffer is safe to read and this triggered on the
workqueue_queue_work trace event:

This commit adds a trace event which allows tracing the beginnings of RCU
CPU stall warnings on systems where sysctl_panic_on_rcu_stall is disabled.
The first parameter is the name of RCU flavor like other trace events.
The second parameter indicates whether this is a stall of an expedited
grace period, a self-detected stall of a normal grace period, or a stall
of a normal grace period detected by some CPU other than the one that
is stalled.
RCU CPU stall warnings are often caused by external-to-RCU issues,
for example, in interrupt handling or task scheduling. Therefore,
this event uses TRACE_EVENT, not TRACE_EVENT_RCU, to avoid requiring
those interested in tracing RCU CPU stalls to rebuild their kernels
with CONFIG_RCU_TRACE=y.

The XDP_REDIRECT implementations for maps and non-maps are fairly
similar, but obviously need to take different code paths depending on
if the target is using a map or not. Today, the redirect targets for
XDP either uses a map, or is based on ifindex.
Here, the map type and id are added to bpf_redirect_info, instead of
the actual map. Map type, map item/ifindex, and the map_id (if any) is
passed to xdp_do_redirect().
For ifindex-based redirect, used by the bpf_redirect() XDP BFP helper,
a special map type/id are used. Map type of UNSPEC together with map id
equal to INT_MAX has the special meaning of an ifindex based
redirect. Note that valid map ids are 1 inclusive, INT_MAX exclusive
([1,INT_MAX[).
In addition to making the code easier to follow, using explicit type
and id in bpf_redirect_info has a slight positive performance impact
by avoiding a pointer indirection for the map type lookup, and instead
use the cacheline for bpf_redirect_info.
Since the actual map is not passed via bpf_redirect_info anymore, the
map lookup is only done in the BPF helper. This means that the
bpf_clear_redirect_map() function can be removed. The actual map item
is RCU protected.
The bpf_redirect_info flags member is not used by XDP, and not
read/written any more. The map member is only written to when
required/used, and not unconditionally.

To improve TLB shootdown performance, flush the remote and local TLBs
concurrently. Introduce flush_tlb_multi() that does so. Introduce
paravirtual versions of flush_tlb_multi() for KVM, Xen and hyper-v (Xen
and hyper-v are only compile-tested).
While the updated smp infrastructure is capable of running a function on
a single local core, it is not optimized for this case. The multiple
function calls and the indirect branch introduce some overhead, and
might make local TLB flushes slower than they were before the recent
changes.
Before calling the SMP infrastructure, check if only a local TLB flush
is needed to restore the lost performance in this common case. This
requires to check mm_cpumask() one more time, but unless this mask is
updated very frequently, this should impact performance negatively.

Currently, exception event status can be read from wExceptionEventStatus
attribute (sysfs file attributes/exception_event_status under the UFS host
controller device directory). Polling that attribute to track UFS exception
events is impractical, so add a tracepoint to track exception events for
testing and debugging purposes.
Note, by the time the exception event status is read, the exception event
may have cleared, so the value can be zero - see example below.
Note also, only enabled exception events can be reported. A subsequent
patch adds the ability for users to enable selected exception events via
debugfs.

Patch series "Add error_report_end tracepoint to KFENCE and KASAN", v3.
This patchset adds a tracepoint, error_repor_end, that is to be used by
KFENCE, KASAN, and potentially other bug detection tools, when they print
an error report. One of the possible use cases is userspace collection of
kernel error reports: interested parties can subscribe to the tracing
event via tracefs, and get notified when an error report occurs.
This patch (of 3):
Introduce error_report_end tracepoint. It can be used in debugging tools
like KASAN, KFENCE, etc. to provide extensions to the error reporting
mechanisms (e.g. allow tests hook into error reporting, ease error report
collection from production kernels). Another benefit would be making use
of ftrace for debugging or benchmarking the tools themselves.
Should we need it, the tracepoint name leaves us with the possibility to
introduce a complementary error_report_start tracepoint in the future.

The update to kmem_cache_free trace event added printing of the slab name in
the trace event. But it only stores the pointer of the name which will be
printed as a string when the event is read some time in the future. This is
dangerous because the name could be freed in the mean time and when reading
the trace event it would try to dereference the string name by the pointer
to the name that has been freed.
Instead, use the trace event helper macros __string(), __assign_str(), and
__get_str() that are for this very case.

The last parameter for the function blk_fill_rwbs() was added in
5782138e47 ("tracing/events: convert block trace points to
TRACE_EVENT()") in order to signal read request and use of that parameter
was replaced with using switch case REQ_OP_READ with
1b9a9ab78b ("blktrace: use op accessors"), but the parameter was never
removed.
Remove the unused parameter and adjust the respective call sites.

To help debugging kernel, show real address for trace event arguments
in tracefs/trace{,pipe} instead of hashed pointer value.
Since ftrace human-readable format uses vsprintf(), all %p are
translated to hash values instead of pointer address.
However, when debugging the kernel, raw address value gives a
hint when comparing with the memory mapping in the kernel.
(Those are sometimes used with crash log, which is not hashed too)
So converting %p with %px when calling trace_seq_printf().
Moreover, this is not improving the security because the tracefs
can be used only by root user and the raw address values are readable
from tracefs/percpu/cpu*/trace_pipe_raw file.

Often when I'm debugging ENOSPC related issues I have to resort to
printing the entire ENOSPC state with trace_printk() in different spots.
This gets pretty annoying, so add a trace state that does this for us.
Then add a trace point at the end of preemptive flushing so you can see
the state of the space_info when we decide to exit preemptive flushing.
This helped me figure out we weren't kicking in the preemptive flushing
soon enough.

Solely for preemptive flushing, we want to be able to force the
transaction commit without any of the ambiguity of
may_commit_transaction(). This is because may_commit_transaction()
checks tickets and such, and in preemptive flushing we already know
it'll be helpful, so use this to keep the code nice and clean and
straightforward.

While debugging a ENOSPC related performance problem I needed to see the
time difference between start and end of a reserve ticket, so add a
trace point to report when we handle a reserve ticket.
I opted to spit out start_ns itself without calculating the difference
because there could be a gap between enabling the tracepoint and setting
start_ns. Doing it this way allows us to filter on 0 start_ns so we
don't get bogus entries, and we can easily calculate the time difference
with bpftrace or something else.

[BUG]
There is a long existing bug in the last parameter of
btrfs_add_ordered_extent(), in commit 771ed689d2 ("Btrfs: Optimize
compressed writeback and reads") back to 2008.
In that ancient commit btrfs_add_ordered_extent() expects the @type
parameter to be one of the following:
- BTRFS_ORDERED_REGULAR
- BTRFS_ORDERED_NOCOW
- BTRFS_ORDERED_PREALLOC
- BTRFS_ORDERED_COMPRESSED
But we pass 0 in cow_file_range(), which means BTRFS_ORDERED_IO_DONE.
Ironically extra check in __btrfs_add_ordered_extent() won't set the bit
if we see (type == IO_DONE || type == IO_COMPLETE), and avoid any
obvious bug.
But this still leads to regular COW ordered extent having no bit to
indicate its type in various trace events, rendering REGULAR bit
useless.
[FIX]
Change the following aspects to avoid such problem:
- Reorder btrfs_ordered_extent::flags
Now the type bits go first (REGULAR/NOCOW/PREALLCO/COMPRESSED), then
DIRECT bit, finally extra status bits like IO_DONE/COMPLETE/IOERR.
- Add extra ASSERT() for btrfs_add_ordered_extent_*()
- Remove @type parameter for btrfs_add_ordered_extent_compress()
As the only valid @type here is BTRFS_ORDERED_COMPRESSED.
- Remove the unnecessary special check for IO_DONE/COMPLETE in
__btrfs_add_ordered_extent()
This is just to make the code work, with extra ASSERT(), there are
limited values can be passed in.

Often userspace won't request the extack information, or they don't log it
because of log level or so, and even when they do, sometimes it's not
enough to know exactly what caused the error.
Netlink extack is the standard way of reporting erros with descriptive
error messages. With a trace point on it, we then can know exactly where
the error happened, regardless of userspace app. Also, we can even see if
the err msg was overwritten.
The wrapper do_trace_netlink_extack() is because trace points shouldn't be
called from .h files, as trace points are not that small, and the function
call to do_trace_netlink_extack() on the macros is not protected by
tracepoint_enabled() because the macros are called from modules, and this
would require exporting some trace structs. As this is error path, it's
better to export just the wrapper instead.

Some subsystems only have bare tracepoints (a tracepoint with no
associated trace event) to avoid the problem of trace events being an
ABI that can't be changed.
>From bpf presepective, bare tracepoints are what it calls
RAW_TRACEPOINT().
Since bpf assumed there's 1:1 mapping, it relied on hooking to
DEFINE_EVENT() macro to create bpf mapping of the tracepoints. Since
bare tracepoints use DECLARE_TRACE() to create the tracepoint, bpf had
no knowledge about their existence.
By teaching bpf_probe.h to parse DECLARE_TRACE() in a similar fashion to
DEFINE_EVENT(), bpf can find and attach to the new raw tracepoints.
Enabling that comes with the contract that changes to raw tracepoints
don't constitute a regression if they break existing bpf programs.
We need the ability to continue to morph and modify these raw
tracepoints without worrying about any ABI.
Update Documentation/bpf/bpf_design_QA.rst to document this contract.

Commit 156708adf2 ("SUNRPC: Move the svc_xdr_recvfrom()
tracepoint") tried to capture the correct XID in the trace record,
but this line in svc_recv:
rqstp->rq_xid = svc_getu32(&rqstp->rq_arg.head[0]);
alters the size of rq_arg.head[0].iov_len. The tracepoint records
the correct XID but an incorrect value for the length of the
xdr_buf's head.
To keep the trace callsites simple, I've created two trace classes.
One assumes the xdr_buf contains a full RPC message, and the XID
can be extracted from it. The other assumes the contents of the
xdr_buf are arbitrary, and the xid will be provided by the caller.
Currently there is only one user of each class, but I expect we will
need a few more tracepoints using each class as time goes on.

Transaction Specific Fields (TSF) in the UPIU package could be CDB
(SCSI/UFS Command Descriptor Block), OSF (Opcode Specific Field), and TM
I/O parameter (Task Management Input/Output Parameter). But, currently, we
take all of these as CDB in the UPIU trace. Thus makes user confuse among
CDB, OSF, and TM message. So fix it with this patch.

__print_symbolic() is designed for exporting the print formatting table to
userspace and allows parsing tool, such as trace-cmd and perf, to analyze
trace log according to this print formatting table, meanwhile, by using
__print_symbolic()s, save space in the trace ring buffer.

Current EM macro definition, we use stringize operator '#', which turns the
argument it precedes into a quoted string. Thus requires the symbol of
__print_symbolic() should be the string corresponding to the name of the
enum.
However, we have other cases, the symbol and enum name are not the same, we
can redefine EM/EMe, but there will introduce some redundant codes. This
patch is to remove this restriction, let others reuse the current EM/EMe
definition.

This commit adds tracing to track how the segcb list changes before/after
acceleration, during queuing and during dequeuing.
This tracing helped discover an optimization that avoided needless GP
requests when no callbacks were accelerated. The tracing overhead is
minimal as each segment's length is now stored in the respective segment.

The number of dirent records used by an AFS directory entry should be
calculated using the assumption that there is a 16-byte name field in the
first block, rather than a 20-byte name field (which is actually the case).
This miscalculation is historic and effectively standard, so we have to use
it.
The calculation we need to use is:
1 + (((strlen(name) + 1) + 15) >> 5)
where we are adding one to the strlen() result to account for the NUL
termination.
Fix this by the following means:
(1) Create an inline function to do the calculation for a given name
length.
(2) Use the function to calculate the number of records used for a dirent
in afs_dir_iterate_block().
Use this to move the over-end check out of the loop since it only
needs to be done once.
Further use this to only go through the loop for the 2nd+ records
composing an entry. The only test there now is for if the record is
allocated - and we already checked the first block at the top of the
outer loop.
(3) Add a max name length check in afs_dir_iterate_block().
(4) Make afs_edit_dir_add() and afs_edit_dir_remove() use the function
from (1) to calculate the number of blocks rather than doing it
incorrectly themselves.

example, F2FS_IOC_GET|SET_COMPRESS_OPTION provides a way to change the
algorithm or cluster size per file. F2FS_IOC_COMPRESS|DECOMPRESS_FILE provides
a way to compress and decompress the existing normal files manually along with
a new mount option, compress_mode=fs|user, which can control who compresses the
data. Chao also added a checksum feature with a mount option so that we are able
to detect any corrupted cluster. In addition, Daniel contributed casefolding
with encryption patch, which will be used for Android devices.

make re-exporting a first-class feature of NFSD.

macros that hid dprintk's and goto's. Over time, the kernel's XDR
implementation has been greatly improved, but these C macros have

The goal of these tracepoints is to be able to debug lock contention
issues. This lock is acquired on most (all?) mmap / munmap / page fault
operations, so a multi-threaded process which does a lot of these can
experience significant contention.
We trace just before we start acquisition, when the acquisition returns
(whether it succeeded or not), and when the lock is released (or
downgraded). The events are broken out by lock type (read / write).
The events are also broken out by memcg path. For container-based
workloads, users often think of several processes in a memcg as a single
logical "task", so collecting statistics at this level is useful.
The end goal is to get latency information. This isn't directly included
in the trace events. Instead, users are expected to compute the time
between "start locking" and "acquire returned", using e.g. synthetic
events or BPF. The benefit we get from this is simpler code.
Because we use tracepoint_enabled() to decide whether or not to trace,
this patch has effectively no overhead unless tracepoints are enabled at
runtime. If tracepoints are enabled, there is a performance impact, but
how much depends on exactly what e.g. the BPF program does.

While migrating some code from wq to kthread_worker, I found that I missed
the execute_start/end tracepoints. So add similar tracepoints for
kthread_work. And for completeness, queue_work tracepoint (although this
one differs slightly from the matching workqueue tracepoint).

1. Update devfreq core
- Add new devfreq_frequency tracepoint to show the frequency change
information.
- Add governor feature flag. The devfreq governor is able to
have the specific flag in order to contain the non-common feature.
For example, if governor contains the 'immutable' feature, don't allow
user to change the governor via sysfs.
- Add governor sysfs attribute flag for each sysfs file. Prior to that
devfreq subsystem show the all sysfs files regardless of governor type.
But, some sysfs fils are not supported on the specific devfreq governor.
In order to show the only supported sysfs files according to the governor,
clarify the access permission of sysfs attributes according to governor.
When adding the devfreq governor, can specify the available attribute
information by using DEVFREQ_GOV_ATTR_* constant variable. The user can
read or write the sysfs attributes in accordance to the specified attributes.
- Clean-up the code to remove the duplicate code for the devfreq tracepoint
and to remove redundant governor_name field from struct devfreq
2. Update exynos-bus.c devfreq driver
- Add interconnect API support for the Samsung Exynos Bus Frequency driver
of exynos-bus.c. Complementing the devfreq driver with an interconnect
functionality allows to ensure the QoS requirements of devices accessing
the system memory (e.g. video processing devices) are fulfilled
and allows to avoid issues like the DMA underrun.
3. Update tegra devfreq driver
- Add interconnect support and OPP interface for tegra30-devfreq.c.
Also, it is to guarantee the QoS requirement of some devices like
display controller.
- Move tegra20-devfreq.c from drivers/devfreq/ into driver/memory/tegra/
in order to use the more proper monitoring feature such as EMC_STAT
which is based in driver/memory/tegra/.
- Separate the configuration information for different SoC on
tegra30-devfrqe.c. The tegra30-devfreq.c had been supported both
tegra30-actmon and tegra124-actmon devices. In order to use
the more correct configuration data, separate them.
- Use dev_err_probe() to handle the deferred probe error on tegra30-devfreq.c.

Pull devfreq updates for 5.11 from Chanwoo Choi:
1. Update devfreq core
- Add new devfreq_frequency tracepoint to show the frequency change
information.
- Add governor feature flag. The devfreq governor is able to set the
specific flag in order to support a non-common feature. For
example, if the governor supports the 'immutable' feature, don't
allow user space to change the governor via sysfs.
- Add governor sysfs attribute flag for each sysfs file. Prior to that
the devfreq subsystem allowed all of the sysfs files to be accessed
regardless of the governor type. But some sysfs fils are not
supported by specific devfreq governors. In order to only allow the
sysfs files supported by the governor to be accessed, clarify the
access permissions of sysfs attributes according to the governor.
When adding the devfreq governor, specify the available attribute
information by using DEVFREQ_GOV_ATTR_* symbols. The user can read
or write the sysfs attributes in accordance to the specified
access permissions.
- Clean-up the code to reduce duplication for the devfreq tracepoint
and to remove redundant governor_name field from struct devfreq.
2. Update exynos-bus.c devfreq driver
- Add interconnect API support to the Samsung Exynos Bus Frequency
driver, exynos-bus.c. Complementing the devfreq driver with
interconnect functionality allows to ensure that the QoS
requirements regarding devices accessing the system memory (e.g.
video processing devices) will be met and allows to avoid issues
like DMA underrun.
3. Update tegra devfreq driver
- Add interconnect support and OPP interface to tegra30-devfreq.c.
Also, it is to guarantee the QoS requirement of some devices like
the display controller.
- Move tegra20-devfreq.c from drivers/devfreq/ into drivers/memory/tegra/
in order to use the more proper monitoring feature such as EMC_STAT
which is located in drivers/memory/tegra/.
- Separate the configuration information for different SoCs in
tegra30-devfrqe.c. The tegra30-devfreq.c had been supporting both
tegra30-actmon and tegra124-actmon devices. In order to use the
more correct configuration data, separate them.
- Use dev_err_probe() to handle the deferred probe error in
tegra30-devfreq.c.
4. Pull the request of 'Tegra SoC and clock controller changes for
v5.11' sent by Krzysztof Kozlowski <krzk@kernel.org> in order to
avoid a build error."

Patch series "mm: allow mapping accounted kernel pages to userspace", v6.
Currently a non-slab kernel page which has been charged to a memory cgroup
can't be mapped to userspace. The underlying reason is simple: PageKmemcg
flag is defined as a page type (like buddy, offline, etc), so it takes a
bit from a page->mapped counter. Pages with a type set can't be mapped to
userspace.
But in general the kmemcg flag has nothing to do with mapping to
userspace. It only means that the page has been accounted by the page
allocator, so it has to be properly uncharged on release.
Some bpf maps are mapping the vmalloc-based memory to userspace, and their
memory can't be accounted because of this implementation detail.
This patchset removes this limitation by moving the PageKmemcg flag into
one of the free bits of the page->mem_cgroup pointer. Also it formalizes
accesses to the page->mem_cgroup and page->obj_cgroups using new helpers,
adds several checks and removes a couple of obsolete functions. As the
result the code became more robust with fewer open-coded bit tricks.
This patch (of 4):
Currently there are many open-coded reads of the page->mem_cgroup pointer,
as well as a couple of read helpers, which are barely used.
It creates an obstacle on a way to reuse some bits of the pointer for
storing additional bits of information. In fact, we already do this for
slab pages, where the last bit indicates that a pointer has an attached
vector of objcg pointers instead of a regular memcg pointer.
This commits uses 2 existing helpers and introduces a new helper to
converts all read sides to calls of these helpers:

page_memcg_check() is intended to be used in cases when the page can be a

VM_BUG_ON_PAGE() check for the page not being a slab page.
To make sure nobody uses a direct access, struct page's
mem_cgroup/obj_cgroups is converted to unsigned long memcg_data.

Commit c509f15a58 ("SUNRPC: Split the xdr_buf event class") added
display of the rqst's XID to the svc_xdr_buf_class. However, when
the recvfrom tracepoint fires, rq_xid has yet to be filled in with
the current XID. So it ends up recording the previous XID that was
handled by that svc_rqst.

Refactor: svc_rdma_map_reply_msg() is restructured to DMA map only
the parts of rq_res that do not contain a result payload.
This change has been tested to confirm that it does not cause a
regression in the no Write chunk and single Write chunk cases.
Multiple Write chunks have not been tested.

When counting the number of SGEs needed to construct a Send request,
do not count result payloads. And, when copying the Reply message

This simple data structure binds the location of each data payload
inside of an RPC message to the chunk that will be used to push it
to or pull it from the client.
There are several benefits to this small additional overhead:
* It enables support for more than one chunk in incoming Read and
Write lists.
* It translates the version-specific on-the-wire format into a
generic in-memory structure, enabling support for multiple
versions of the RPC/RDMA transport protocol.
* It enables the server to re-organize a chunk list if it needs to
adjust where Read chunk data lands in server memory without
altering the contents of the XDR-encoded Receive buffer.
Construction of these lists is done while sanity checking each
incoming RPC/RDMA header. Subsequent patches will make use of the
generated data structures.

This patch is heavily based on previous work from Lei Cao
<lei.cao@stratus.com> and Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>. [1]
KVM currently uses large bitmaps to track dirty memory. These bitmaps
are copied to userspace when userspace queries KVM for its dirty page
information. The use of bitmaps is mostly sufficient for live
migration, as large parts of memory are be dirtied from one log-dirty
pass to another. However, in a checkpointing system, the number of
dirty pages is small and in fact it is often bounded---the VM is
paused when it has dirtied a pre-defined number of pages. Traversing a
large, sparsely populated bitmap to find set bits is time-consuming,
as is copying the bitmap to user-space.
A similar issue will be there for live migration when the guest memory
is huge while the page dirty procedure is trivial. In that case for
each dirty sync we need to pull the whole dirty bitmap to userspace
and analyse every bit even if it's mostly zeros.
The preferred data structure for above scenarios is a dense list of
guest frame numbers (GFN). This patch series stores the dirty list in
kernel memory that can be memory mapped into userspace to allow speedy
harvesting.
This patch enables dirty ring for X86 only. However it should be
easily extended to other archs as well.

->buf_free is called nearly once per RPC. Only rarely does
xprt_rdma_free() have to do anything, thus tracing every one of
these calls seems unnecessary. Instead, just throw a trace event
when that one occasional RPC still has MRs that need to be
released.
xprt_rdma_free() is further micro-optimized to reduce the amount of
work done in the common case.

Tie each MR event to the requesting rpc_task to make it easier to
follow MR ownership and control flow.
MR unmapping and recycling can happen in the background, after an
MR's mr_req field is stale, so set up a separate tracepoint class
for those events.

If inode gets evicted due to memory pressure, we have to remove it
from the fast commit list. However, that inode may have uncommitted
changes that fast commits will lose. So, just fall back to full
commits in this case. Also, rename the fast commit ineligiblity reason
from "EXT4_FC_REASON_MEM" to "EXT4_FC_REASON_MEM_NOMEM" for better
expression.

DeepSleep is a UFS v3.1 feature that achieves the lowest power consumption
of the device, apart from power off.
In DeepSleep mode, no commands are accepted, and the only way to exit is
using a hardware reset or power cycle.
This patch assumes that if a power cycle was an option, then power off
would be preferable, so only exit via a hardware reset is supported.
Drivers that wish to support DeepSleep need to set a new capability flag
UFSHCD_CAP_DEEPSLEEP and provide a hardware reset via the existing
->device_reset() callback.
It is assumed that UFS devices with wspecversion >= 0x310 support
DeepSleep.

Like other filesystem does, we introduce a new file f2fs.h in path of
include/uapi/linux/, and move f2fs-specified ioctl interface definitions
to that file, after then, in order to use those definitions, userspace
developer only need to include the new header file rather than
copy & paste definitions from fs/f2fs/f2fs.h.

Fix afs_invalidatepage() to adjust the dirty region recorded in
page->private when truncating a page. If the dirty region is entirely
removed, then the private data is cleared and the page dirty state is
cleared.
Without this, if the page is truncated and then expanded again by truncate,
zeros from the expanded, but no-longer dirty region may get written back to
the server if the page gets laundered due to a conflicting 3rd-party write.
It mustn't, however, shorten the dirty region of the page if that page is
still mmapped and has been marked dirty by afs_page_mkwrite(), so a flag is
stored in page->private to record this.

The afs filesystem uses page->private to store the dirty range within a
page such that in the event of a conflicting 3rd-party write to the server,
we write back just the bits that got changed locally.
However, there are a couple of problems with this:
(1) I need a bit to note if the page might be mapped so that partial
invalidation doesn't shrink the range.
(2) There aren't necessarily sufficient bits to store the entire range of
data altered (say it's a 32-bit system with 64KiB pages or transparent
huge pages are in use).
So wrap the accesses in inline functions so that future commits can change
how this works.
Also move them out of the tracing header into the in-directory header.
There's not really any need for them to be in the tracing header.
