Mark Fasheh 316f4b9f98 ocfs2: Move directory manipulation code into dir.c
The code for adding, removing, deleting directory entries was splattered all
over namei.c. I'd rather have this all centralized, so that it's easier to
make changes for inline dir data, and eventually indexed directories.

None of the code in any of the functions was changed. I only removed the
static keyword from some prototypes so that they could be exported.

Mark Fasheh 1d410a6e33 ocfs2: Small refactor of truncate zeroing code
We'll want to reuse most of this when pushing inline data back out to an
extent. Keeping this part as a seperate patch helps to keep the upcoming
changes for write support uncluttered.

The core portion of ocfs2_zero_cluster_pages() responsible for making sure a
page is mapped and properly dirtied is abstracted out into it's own
function, ocfs2_map_and_dirty_page(). Actual functionality doesn't change,
though zeroing becomes optional.

We also turn part of ocfs2_free_write_ctxt() into  a common function for
unlocking and freeing a page array. This operation is very common (and
uniform) for Ocfs2 cluster sizes greater than page size, so it makes sense
to keep the code in one place.

NeilBrown 6712ecf8f6 Drop 'size' argument from bio_endio and bi_end_io
As bi_end_io is only called once when the reqeust is complete,
the 'size' argument is now redundant.  Remove it.

Now there is no need for bio_endio to subtract the size completed
from bi_size.  So don't do that either.

While we are at it, change bi_end_io to return void.

Mark Fasheh 5c26a7b70f ocfs2: Don't double set write parameters
The target page offsets were being incorrectly set a second time in
ocfs2_prepare_page_for_write(), which was causing problems on a 16k page
size kernel. Additionally, ocfs2_write_failure() was incorrectly using those
parameters instead of the parameters for the individual page being cleaned
up.

Mark Fasheh 415cb80037 ocfs2: Allow smaller allocations during large writes
The ocfs2 write code loops through a page much like the block code, except
that ocfs2 allocation units can be any size, including larger than page
size. Typically it's equal to or larger than page size - most kernels run 4k
pages, the minimum ocfs2 allocation (cluster) size.

Some changes introduced during 2.6.23 changed the way writes to pages are
handled, and inadvertantly broke support for > 4k page size. Instead of just
writing one cluster at a time, we now handle the whole page in one pass.

This means that multiple (small) seperate allocations might happen in the
same pass. The allocation code howver typically optimizes by getting the
maximum which was reserved. This triggered a BUG_ON in the extend code where
it'd ask for a single bit (for one part of a > 4k page) and get back more
than it asked for.

Fix this by providing a variant of the high level allocation function which
allows the caller to specify a maximum. The traditional function remains and
just calls the new one with a maximum determined from the initial
reservation.

In ocfs2_alloc_write_write_ctxt, the written clusters length is calculated
by the byte length only. This may cause some problems if we start to write
at some position in the end of one cluster and last to a second cluster
while the "len" is smaller than a cluster size. In that case, we have to
write 2 clusters actually.
So we have to take the start position into consideration also.

Tiger Yang c0123adef6 [PATCH] ocfs2: fix mount option parsing
For some mount option types, ocfs2_parse_options() will try to access
sb->s_fs_info to get at the ocfs2 private superblock. Unfortunately, that
hasn't been allocated yet and will cause a kernel crash.

Fix this by storing options in a struct which can then get pushed into the
ocfs2_super once it's been allocated later. If we need more options which
store to the ocfs2_super in the future, we can just fields to this struct.

Sunil Mushran 480214d71f ocfs2: Fix rename/extend race
If one process is extending a file while another is renaming it, there
exists a window when rename could flush the old inode's stale i_size to
disk. This patch recognizes the fact that rename is only updating the old
inode's ctime, so it ensures only that value is flushed to disk.

Mark Fasheh c11e9fafb3 ocfs2: Restrict inode changes in ocfs2_update_inode_atime()
ocfs2_update_inode_atime() calls ocfs2_mark_inode_dirty() to push changes
from the struct inode into the ocfs2 disk inode. The problem is,
ocfs2_mark_inode_dirty() might change other fields, depending on what
happened to the struct inode. Since we don't always have locking to
serialize changes to other fields (like i_size, etc), just fix things up to
only touch the atime field.

Paul Mundt 20c2df83d2 mm: Remove slab destructors from kmem_cache_create().
Slab destructors were no longer supported after Christoph's
c59def9f22 change. They've been
BUGs for both slab and slub, and slob never supported them
either.

This rips out support for the dtor pointer from kmem_cache_create()
completely and fixes up every single callsite in the kernel (there were
about 224, not including the slab allocator definitions themselves,
or the documentation references).

Nick Piggin d0217ac04c mm: fault feedback #1
Change ->fault prototype.  We now return an int, which contains
VM_FAULT_xxx code in the low byte, and FAULT_RET_xxx code in the next byte.
 FAULT_RET_ code tells the VM whether a page was found, whether it has been
locked, and potentially other things.  This is not quite the way he wanted
it yet, but that's changed in the next patch (which requires changes to
arch code).

This means we no longer set VM_CAN_INVALIDATE in the vma in order to say
that a page is locked which requires filemap_nopage to go away (because we
can no longer remain backward compatible without that flag), but we were
going to do that anyway.

struct fault_data is renamed to struct vm_fault as Linus asked. address
is now a void __user * that we should firmly encourage drivers not to use
without really good reason.

The page is now returned via a page pointer in the vm_fault struct.

Nick Piggin 54cb8821de mm: merge populate and nopage into fault (fixes nonlinear)
Nonlinear mappings are (AFAIKS) simply a virtual memory concept that encodes
the virtual address -> file offset differently from linear mappings.

->populate is a layering violation because the filesystem/pagecache code
should need to know anything about the virtual memory mapping.  The hitch here
is that the ->nopage handler didn't pass down enough information (ie.  pgoff).
 But it is more logical to pass pgoff rather than have the ->nopage function
calculate it itself anyway (because that's a similar layering violation).

Having the populate handler install the pte itself is likewise a nasty thing
to be doing.

This patch introduces a new fault handler that replaces ->nopage and
->populate and (later) ->nopfn.  Most of the old mechanism is still in place
so there is a lot of duplication and nice cleanups that can be removed if
everyone switches over.

The rationale for doing this in the first place is that nonlinear mappings are
subject to the pagefault vs invalidate/truncate race too, and it seemed stupid
to duplicate the synchronisation logic rather than just consolidate the two.

After this patch, MAP_NONBLOCK no longer sets up ptes for pages present in
pagecache.  Seems like a fringe functionality anyway.

NOPAGE_REFAULT is removed.  This should be implemented with ->fault, and no
users have hit mainline yet.

Nick Piggin d00806b183 mm: fix fault vs invalidate race for linear mappings
Fix the race between invalidate_inode_pages and do_no_page.

Andrea Arcangeli identified a subtle race between invalidation of pages from
pagecache with userspace mappings, and do_no_page.

The issue is that invalidation has to shoot down all mappings to the page,
before it can be discarded from the pagecache.  Between shooting down ptes to
a particular page, and actually dropping the struct page from the pagecache,
do_no_page from any process might fault on that page and establish a new
mapping to the page just before it gets discarded from the pagecache.

The most common case where such invalidation is used is in file truncation.
This case was catered for by doing a sort of open-coded seqlock between the
file's i_size, and its truncate_count.

Truncation will decrease i_size, then increment truncate_count before
unmapping userspace pages; do_no_page will read truncate_count, then find the
page if it is within i_size, and then check truncate_count under the page
table lock and back out and retry if it had subsequently been changed (ptl
will serialise against unmapping, and ensure a potentially updated
truncate_count is actually visible).

Complexity and documentation issues aside, the locking protocol fails in the
case where we would like to invalidate pagecache inside i_size.  do_no_page
can come in anytime and filemap_nopage is not aware of the invalidation in
progress (as it is when it is outside i_size).  The end result is that
dangling (->mapping == NULL) pages that appear to be from a particular file
may be mapped into userspace with nonsense data.  Valid mappings to the same
place will see a different page.

Andrea implemented two working fixes, one using a real seqlock, another using
a page->flags bit.  He also proposed using the page lock in do_no_page, but
that was initially considered too heavyweight.  However, it is not a global or
per-file lock, and the page cacheline is modified in do_no_page to increment
_count and _mapcount anyway, so a further modification should not be a large
performance hit.  Scalability is not an issue.

This patch implements this latter approach.  ->nopage implementations return
with the page locked if it is possible for their underlying file to be
invalidated (in that case, they must set a special vm_flags bit to indicate
so).  do_no_page only unlocks the page after setting up the mapping
completely.  invalidation is excluded because it holds the page lock during
invalidation of each page (and ensures that the page is not mapped while
holding the lock).

This also allows significant simplifications in do_no_page, because we have
the page locked in the right place in the pagecache from the start.

Satyam Sharma 3bd858ab1c Introduce is_owner_or_cap() to wrap CAP_FOWNER use with fsuid check
Introduce is_owner_or_cap() macro in fs.h, and convert over relevant
users to it. This is done because we want to avoid bugs in the future
where we check for only effective fsuid of the current task against a
file's owning uid, without simultaneously checking for CAP_FOWNER as
well, thus violating its semantics.
[ XFS uses special macros and structures, and in general looked ...
untouchable, so we leave it alone -- but it has been looked over. ]

The (current->fsuid != inode->i_uid) check in generic_permission() and
exec_permission_lite() is left alone, because those operations are
covered by CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE and CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH. Similarly operations
falling under the purview of CAP_CHOWN and CAP_LEASE are also left alone.

Tejun Heo 7b595756ec sysfs: kill unnecessary attribute->owner
sysfs is now completely out of driver/module lifetime game.  After
deletion, a sysfs node doesn't access anything outside sysfs proper,
so there's no reason to hold onto the attribute owners.  Note that
often the wrong modules were accounted for as owners leading to
accessing removed modules.

This patch kills now unnecessary attribute->owner.  Note that with
this change, userland holding a sysfs node does not prevent the
backing module from being unloaded.

Mark Fasheh b25801038d ocfs2: Support xfs style space reservation ioctls
We re-use the RESVSP/UNRESVSP ioctls from xfs which allow the user to
allocate and deallocate regions to a file without zeroing data or changing
i_size.

Though renamed, the structure passed in from user is identical to struct
xfs_flock64. The three fields that are actually used right now are l_whence,
l_start and l_len.

This should get ocfs2 immediate compatibility with userspace software using
the pre-existing xfs ioctls.

Mark Fasheh 2b604351bc ocfs2: simplify deallocation locking
Deallocation of suballocator blocks, most notably extent blocks, might
involve multiple suballocator inodes.

The locking for this can get extremely complicated, especially when the
suballocator inodes to delete from aren't known until deep within an
unrelated codepath.

Implement a simple scheme for recording the blocks to be unlinked so that
the actual deallocation can be done in a context which won't deadlock.

Use some ideas from the new-aops patch series and turn
ocfs2_buffered_write_cluster() into a 2 stage operation with the caller
copying data in between. The code now understands multiple cluster writes as
a result of having to deal with a full page write for greater than 4k pages.

This sets us up to easily call into the write path during ->page_mkwrite().

Tell o2cb_region_dev_write() to wake up if rmdir(2) happens on the
heartbeat region while it is starting up.  Then o2hb_region_dev_write()
can check to see if it is alive and act accordingly.  This prevents a hang
(not being woken) and a crash (if it's woken by a signal).

ocfs2 mounts require a heartbeat region.  Use the new configfs_depend_item()
facility to actually depend on them so they can't go away from under us.

First, teach cluster/nodemanager.c to depend an item on the o2cb subsystem.
Then teach o2hb_register_callbacks to take a UUID and depend on the
appropriate region.  Finally, teach all users of o2hb to pass a UUID or
NULL if they don't require a pin.

Jens Axboe cac36bb06e pipe: change the ->pin() operation to ->confirm()
The name 'pin' was badly chosen, it doesn't pin a pipe buffer
in the most commonly used sense in the kernel. So change the
name to 'confirm', after debating this issue with Hugh
Dickins a bit.

A good return from ->confirm() means that the buffer is really
there, and that the contents are good.

Mark Fasheh eeb47d1234 ocfs2: Fix invalid assertion during write on 64k pages
The write path code intends to bug if a math error (or unhandled case)
results in a write outside of the current cluster boundaries. The actual
BUG_ON() statements however are incorrect, leading to a crash on kernels
with 64k page size. Fix those by checking against the right variables.

Also, move the assertions higher up within the functions so that they trip
*before* the code starts to mark buffers.

We weren't cleaning up our inode reference on error in

Christoph Lameter 50953fe9e0 slab allocators: Remove SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL flag
I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL.  It is only supported by
SLAB.

I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed
to verify that the state is the constructor state again?  The callback is
performed before each freeing of an object.

I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually
before the free.  That also places the check near the code object
manipulation of the object.

Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was
compiled with SLAB debugging on.  If there would be code in a constructor
handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on
SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code.  But there is no such code
in the kernel.  I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real
use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the
same effect (i.e.  add debug code before kfree).

There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be
clear in fs inode caches.  Remove the pointless checks (they would even be
pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors.

This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support.  Remove the check for
unimplemented flags from SLUB.

Nick Piggin 6fe6900e1e mm: make read_cache_page synchronous
Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows
us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls.

I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7
possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in
ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in
block2mtd.  All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return
with a !uptodate page.

We need to work on cleaning up the relationship between kobjects, ksets and
ktypes.  The removal of 'struct subsystem' is the first step of this,
especially as it is not really needed at all.

Joel Becker ee19a77956 ocfs2: Wrap access of directory allocations with ip_alloc_sem.
OCFS2_I(inode)->ip_alloc_sem is a read-write semaphore protecting
local concurrent access of ocfs2 inodes.  However, ocfs2 directories were
not taking the semaphore while they accessed or modified the allocation
tree.

ocfs2_extend_dir() needs to take the semaphore in a write mode when it
adds to the allocation.  All other directory users get there via
ocfs2_bread(), which takes the semaphore in read mode.

Mark Fasheh 8341897882 ocfs2: Cache extent records
The extent map code was ripped out earlier because of an inability to deal
with holes. This patch adds back a simpler caching scheme requiring far less
code.

Our old extent map caching was designed back when meta data block caching in
Ocfs2 didn't work very well, resulting in many disk reads. These days our
metadata caching is much better, resulting in no un-necessary disk reads. As
a result, extent caching doesn't have to be as fancy, nor does it have to
cache as many extents. Keeping the last 3 extents seen should be sufficient
to give us a small performance boost on some streaming workloads.

Due to the size of our group bitmaps, we'll never have a leaf node extent
record with more than 16 bits worth of clusters. Split e_clusters up so that
leaf nodes can get a flags field where we can mark unwritten extents.
Interior nodes whose length references all the child nodes beneath it can't
split their e_clusters field, so we use a union to preserve sizing there.

Unfortunately, ocfs2 can no longer make use of generic_file_aio_write_nlock()
because allocating writes will require zeroing of pages adjacent to the I/O
for cluster sizes greater than page size.

Implement a custom file write here, which can order page locks for zeroing.
This also has the advantage that cluster locks can easily be ordered outside
of the page locks.

Mark Fasheh abf8b15694 ocfs2: abstract out allocation locking
Right now, file allocation for ocfs2 is done within ocfs2_extend_file(),
which is either called from ->setattr() (for an i_size change), or at the
top of ocfs2_file_aio_write().

Inodes on file systems with sparse file support will want to do their
allocation during the actual write call.

In either case the cluster locking decisions are the same. We abstract out
that code into a new function, ocfs2_lock_allocators() which will be used by
a later patch to enable writing to sparse files.

This also provides a nice cleanup of ocfs2_extend_allocation().

Mark Fasheh 3a0782d09c ocfs2: teach extend/truncate about sparse files
For ocfs2_truncate_file(), we eliminate the "simple" truncate case which no
longer exists since i_size is not tied to i_clusters. In
ocfs2_extend_file(), we skip the allocation / page zeroing code for file
systems which understand sparse files.

The core truncate code is changed to do a bottom up tree traversal. This
gets abstracted out into it's own function. To make things more readable,
most of the special case handling for in-inode extents from
ocfs2_do_truncate() is also removed.

Though write support for sparse files comes in a later patch, we at least
update ocfs2_prepare_inode_for_write() to skip allocation for sparse files.

The code in extent_map.c is not prepared to deal with a subtree being
rotated between lookups. This can happen when filling holes in sparse files.
Instead of a lengthy patch to update the code (which would likely lose the
benefit of caching subtree roots), we remove most of the algorithms and
implement a simple path based lookup. A less ambitious extent caching scheme
will be added in a later patch.

There are two checks in there (one for inode newness, one for other mounted
nodes) which are unnecessary, so remove them. The DLM will allow the trylock
in either case without any messaging overhead.

Removing these makes ocfs2_request_delete() a one liner function, so just
move the trylock out one level into ocfs2_query_inode_wipe().

Ocfs2 currently does cluster-wide node messaging to check the open state of
an inode during delete. This patch removes that mechanism in favor of an
inode cluster lock which is taken at shared read when an inode is first read
and dropped in clear_inode(). This allows a deleting node to test the
liveness of an inode by attempting to take an exclusive lock.

Sunil Mushran bebe6f120b ocfs2: Replace panic() with emergency_restart() when fencing
We have noticed panic() hanging leading us to a situation in which
the node, while otherwise dead, is still disk heartbeating. This
leads to a hung cluster as the other nodes are waiting for this
node to stop disk heartbeating. This situation is only resolved
by power resetting the box.

There is a possibility that dlm_remaster_locks could overwride node->state
with DLM_RECO_NODE_DATA_REQUESTED after dlm_reco_data_done_handler sets the

stuck and requires a cluster reboot. Synchronize with dlm_reco_state_lock
spinlock.

Under load, OCFS2 would crash in invalidate_inode_pages2_range() because
invalidate_complete_page2() was unable to invalidate a page.  It would
appear that JBD is holding on to the page.  ext3 has a specific
->releasepage() handler to cover this case.

Steal ext3's ->releasepage(), ->invalidatepage(), and ->migratepage(), as
they appear completely appropriate for OCFS2.

Eric W. Biederman 0b4d414714 [PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctl
The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered
sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name.  Which is
pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented.

I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of
register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register
duplicate sysctl entries.

So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in
the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future
enhancments harder.

that OCFS2 is expecting bio_add_page() to add pages to BIOs in an easily
predictable manner.

That is not true, especially for devices with own merge_bvec_fn().

Therefore OCFS2's heartbeat code is very likely to fail on such devices.

Move the bio_put() call into the bio's bi_end_io() function. This makes the
whole idea of trying to predict the behaviour of bio_add_page() unnecessary.
Removed compute_max_sectors() and o2hb_compute_request_limits().

Zhen Wei 925037bcba ocfs2: introduce sc->sc_send_lock to protect outbound outbound messages
When there is a lot of multithreaded I/O usage, two threads can collide
while sending out a message to the other nodes. This is due to the lack of
locking between threads while sending out the messages.

When a connected TCP send(), sendto(), or sendmsg() arrives in the Linux
kernel, it eventually comes through tcp_sendmsg(). tcp_sendmsg() protects
itself by acquiring a lock at invocation by calling lock_sock().
tcp_sendmsg() then loops over the buffers in the iovec, allocating
associated sk_buff's and cache pages for use in the actual send. As it does
so, it pushes the data out to tcp for actual transmission. However, if one
of those allocation fails (because a large number of large sends is being
processed, for example), it must wait for memory to become available. It
does so by jumping to wait_for_sndbuf or wait_for_memory, both of which
eventually cause a call to sk_stream_wait_memory(). sk_stream_wait_memory()
contains a code path that calls sk_wait_event(). Finally, sk_wait_event()
contains the call to release_sock().

The following patch adds a lock to the socket container in order to
properly serialize outbound requests.

Sunil Mushran 0dd82141b2 ocfs2_dlm: Add timeout to dlm join domain
Currently the ocfs2 dlm has no timeout during dlm join domain. While this is
not a problem in normal operation, this does become an issue if, say, the
other node is refusing to let the node join the domain because of a stuck
recovery. This patch adds a 90 sec timeout.

Srinivas Eeda 1faf289454 ocfs2_dlm: disallow a domain join if node maps mismatch
There is a small window where a joining node may not see the node(s) that
just died but are still part of the domain. To fix this, we must disallow
join requests if the joining node has a different node map.

A new field node_map is added to dlm_query_join_request to send the current
nodes nodemap along with join request. On the receiving end the nodes that
are part of the cluster verifies if this new node sees all the nodes that
are still part of the cluster. They disallow the join if the maps mismatch.

Sunil Mushran f3f854648d ocfs2_dlm: Ensure correct ordering of set/clear refmap bit on lockres
Eventhough the set refmap bit message is sent before the clear refmap
message, currently there is no guarentee that the set message will be
handled before the clear. This patch prevents the clear refmap to be
processed while the node is sending assert master messages to other
nodes. (The set refmap message is sent as a response to the assert
master request).

Kurt Hackel d74c9803a9 ocfs2: Added post handler callable function in o2net message handler
Currently o2net allows one handler function per message type. This
patch adds the ability to call another function to be called after
the handler has returned the message to the other node.

Handlers are now given the option of returning a context (in the form of a
void **) which will be passed back into the post message handler function.

Kurt Hackel 74aa25856c ocfs2_dlm: Cookies in locks not being printed correctly in error messages
The dlm encodes the node number and a sequence number in the lock cookie.
It also stores the cookie in the lockres in the big endian format to avoid
swapping 8 bytes on each lock request. The bug here was that it was assuming
the cookie to be in the cpu format when decoding it for printing the error
message. This patch swaps the bytes before the print.

This is to prevent the condition in which a previously queued
up assert master asserts after we start the migration. Now

Kurt Hackel ba2bf21851 ocfs2_dlm: fix cluster-wide refcounting of lock resources
This was previously broken and migration of some locks had to be temporarily
disabled. We use a new (and backward-incompatible) set of network messages
to account for all references to a lock resources held across the cluster.
once these are all freed, the master node may then free the lock resource
memory once its local references are dropped.

Mark Fasheh 592282cf2e ocfs2: Directory c/mtime update fixes
ocfs2 wasn't updating c/mtime on directories during dirent
creation/deletion. Fix ocfs2_unlink(), ocfs2_rename() and
__ocfs2_add_entry() by adding the proper code to update the struct inode and
push the change out to disk.

This helps rename/unlink on nfs exported file systems in particular as those
clients compare directory time values to avoid a full re-reading a directory
which hasn't changed.

ocfs2_rename() loses some superfluous error handling as a result of this
patch.

Zhen Wei 92efc15241 ocfs2: export heartbeat thread pid via configfs
The patch allows the ocfs2 heartbeat thread to prioritize I/O which may
help cut down on spurious fencing. Most of this will be in the tools -
we can have a pid configfs attribute and let userspace (ocfs2_hb_ctl)
calls the ioprio_set syscall after starting heartbeat, but only cfq
scheduler supports I/O priorities now.

Mark Fasheh 564f8a3228 ocfs2: Allow direct I/O read past end of file
ocfs2_direct_IO_get_blocks() was incorrectly returning -EIO for a direct I/O
read whose start block was past the end of the file allocation tree. Fix
things so that we return a hole instead. do_direct_IO() will then notice
that the range start is past eof and return a short read.

While there, remove the unused vbo_max variable.

Andrew Beekhof 828ae6afbe [patch 3/3] OCFS2 Configurable timeouts - Protocol changes
Modify the OCFS2 handshake to ensure essential timeouts are configured
identically on all nodes.

Only allow changes when there are no connected peers

Improves the logic in o2net_advance_rx() which broke now that
sizeof(struct o2net_handshake) is greater than sizeof(struct o2net_msg)

Included is the field for userspace-heartbeat timeout to avoid the need for
further protocol changes.

Uses a global spinlock to ensure the decisions to update configfs entries
are made on the correct value.  The region covered by the spinlock when
incrementing the counter is much larger as this is the more critical case.

Mark Fasheh 1fabe1481f ocfs2: Remove struct ocfs2_journal_handle in favor of handle_t
This is mostly a search and replace as ocfs2_journal_handle is now no more
than a container for a handle_t pointer.

ocfs2_commit_trans() becomes very straight forward, and we remove some out

Mark Fasheh 17ff785691 [PATCH] r/o bind mounts: clean up OCFS2 nlink handling
OCFS2 does some operations on i_nlink, then reverts them if some of its
operations fail to complete.  This does not fit in well with the
drop_nlink() logic where we expect i_nlink to stay at zero once it gets
there.

So, delay all of the nlink operations until we're sure that the operations
have completed.  Also, introduce a small helper to check whether an inode
has proper "unlinkable" i_nlink counts no matter whether it is a directory
or regular inode.

This patch is broken out from the others because it does contain some
logical changes.

Dave Hansen 9a53c3a783 [PATCH] r/o bind mounts: unlink: monitor i_nlink
When a filesystem decrements i_nlink to zero, it means that a write must be
performed in order to drop the inode from the filesystem.

We're shortly going to have keep filesystems from being remounted r/o between
the time that this i_nlink decrement and that write occurs.

So, add a little helper function to do the decrements.  We'll tie into it in a
bit to note when i_nlink hits zero.

Theodore Ts'o ba52de123d [PATCH] inode-diet: Eliminate i_blksize from the inode structure
This eliminates the i_blksize field from struct inode.  Filesystems that want
to provide a per-inode st_blksize can do so by providing their own getattr
routine instead of using the generic_fillattr() function.

Note that some filesystems were providing pretty much random (and incorrect)
values for i_blksize.

Theodore Ts'o 8e18e2941c [PATCH] inode_diet: Replace inode.u.generic_ip with inode.i_private
The following patches reduce the size of the VFS inode structure by 28 bytes
on a UP x86.  (It would be more on an x86_64 system).  This is a 10% reduction
in the inode size on a UP kernel that is configured in a production mode
(i.e., with no spinlock or other debugging functions enabled; if you want to
save memory taken up by in-core inodes, the first thing you should do is
disable the debugging options; they are responsible for a huge amount of bloat
in the VFS inode structure).

This patch:

The filesystem or device-specific pointer in the inode is inside a union,
which is pretty pointless given that all 30+ users of this field have been
using the void pointer.  Get rid of the union and rename it to i_private, with
a comment to explain who is allowed to use the void pointer.  This is just a
cleanup, but it allows us to reuse the union 'u' for something something where
the union will actually be used.

* XFS BUGs on failed kmem_cache_destroy which is not the decision
  low-level filesystem driver should make. Converted to ignore.

Mark Fasheh 24c19ef404 ocfs2: Remove i_generation from inode lock names
OCFS2 puts inode meta data in the "lock value block" provided by the DLM.
Typically, i_generation is encoded in the lock name so that a deleted inode
on and a new one in the same block don't share the same lvb.

Unfortunately, that scheme means that the read in ocfs2_read_locked_inode()
is potentially thrown away as soon as the meta data lock is taken - we
cannot encode the lock name without first knowing i_generation, which
requires a disk read.

This patch encodes i_generation in the inode meta data lvb, and removes the
value from the inode meta data lock name. This way, the read can be covered
by a lock, and at the same time we can distinguish between an up to date and
a stale LVB.

This will help cold-cache stat(2) performance in particular.

Since this patch changes the protocol version, we take the opportunity to do
a minor re-organization of two of the LVB fields.

Make use of FS_RENAME_DOES_D_MOVE to avoid a race condition that can occur
during ->rename() if we d_move() outside of the parent directory cluster
locks, and another node discovers the new name (created during the rename)
and unlinks it. d_move() will unconditionally rehash a dentry - which will
leave stale data in the system.

forcing the other nodes who care about that dentry to d_delete() it. The
effect is that we retain a very lightweight ->d_revalidate(), and at the
same time get to make large improvements to the average case performance of
the ocfs2 unlink and rename operations.

This patch adds the higher level API and the dentry manipulation code.

The OCFS2 DLM uses strlen() to determine lock name length, which excludes
the possibility of putting binary values in the name string. Fix this by
requiring that string length be passed in as a parameter.

Mark Fasheh eb35746ca5 ocfs2: Remove overzealous BUG_ON()
The truncate code was never supposed to BUG() on an allocator it doesn't
know about, but rather to ignore it. Right now, this does nothing, but when
we change our allocation paths to use all suballocator files, this will
allow current versions of the fs module to work fine.
