When validating a mode, bridges may need to do so in the context of a
display, as specified by drm_display_info. An example is the meson
dw-hdmi bridge that needs to consider the YUV 4:2:0 output format to
perform clock calculations.
Bridges that need the display info currently retrieve it from the
drm_connector created by the bridge. This gets in the way of moving
connector creation out of bridge drivers. To make this possible, pass
the drm_display_info to drm_bridge_funcs .mode_valid().
Changes to the bridge drivers have been performed with the following
coccinelle semantic patch and have been compile-tested.

The drm_bridge_get_edid() function is documented to return an error
pointer on error. The underlying .get_edid() operation, however, returns
NULL on error, and so do the drm_get_edid() and drm_do_get_edid()
functions upon which .get_edid() is usually implemented. Make
drm_bridge_get_edid() return NULL on error to be consistent.

Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the
output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty
well so far, but causes several issues:
- It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM
connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a
pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data,
and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and
disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model.
- It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector
handling code, resulting in code duplication.
- It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to
another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both
positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in
the analogix_dp bridge driver).
In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector needs to be
moved to the display controller driver.
To avoid code duplication in display controller drivers, add a new
helper to create and manage a DRM connector backed by a chain of
bridges. All connector operations are delegating to the appropriate
bridge in the chain.

Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge

0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge
drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as
they don't support this feature yet.

To support implementation of DRM connectors on top of DRM bridges
instead of by bridges, the drm_bridge needs to expose new operations and
data:
- Output detection, hot-plug notification, mode retrieval and EDID
retrieval operations
- Bitmask of supported operations
- Bridge output type
- I2C adapter for DDC access
Add and document these.
Three new bridge helper functions are also added to handle hot plug
notification in a way that is as transparent as possible for the
bridges.

drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus
configurations. These bus configurations are exposed through the
drm_bus_cfg struct which encodes the configuration of a physical
bus between two components in an output pipeline, usually between
two bridges, an encoder and a bridge, or a bridge and a connector.
The bus configuration is stored in drm_bridge_state separately for
the input and output buses, as seen from the point of view of each
bridge. The bus configuration of a bridge output is usually identical
to the configuration of the next bridge's input, but may differ if
the signals are modified between the two bridges, for instance by an
inverter on the board. The input and output configurations of a
bridge may differ if the bridge modifies the signals internally,
for instance by performing format conversion, or*modifying signals
polarities.
Bus format negotiation is automated by the core, drivers just have
to implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks if they
want to take part to this negotiation. Negotiation happens in reverse
order, starting from the last element of the chain (the one directly
connected to the display) up to the first element of the chain (the one
connected to the encoder).
During this negotiation all supported formats are tested until we find
one that works, meaning that the formats array should be in decreasing
preference order (assuming the driver has a preference order).
Note that the bus format negotiation works even if some elements in the
chain don't implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks.
In that case, the core advertises only MEDIA_BUS_FMT_FIXED and lets
the previous bridge element decide what to do (most of the time, bridge
drivers will pick a default bus format or extract this piece of
information from somewhere else, like a FW property).

The drm_atomic_bridge_chain_check() (which is just a wrapper around
the ->atomic_check() hook) is called in place of
drm_bridge_chain_mode_fixup() (when ->atomic_check() is not implemented,
the core falls back on ->mode_fixup(), so the behavior should stay
the same for existing bridge drivers).

This is being motivated by our attempt to support runtime bus-format
negotiation between elements of the bridge chain.

Change the prefix of bridge helpers targeting a bridge chain from
drm_bridge_ to drm_bridge_chain_ to better reflect the fact that
the operation will happen on all elements of chain, starting at the
bridge passed in argument.

This patch adds atomic variants for all of
pre_enable/enable/disable/post_disable bridge functions. These will be
called from the appropriate atomic helper functions. If the bridge
driver doesn't implement the atomic version of the function, we will
fall back to the vanilla implementation.
Note that some drivers call drm_bridge_disable directly, and these cases
are not covered. It's up to the driver to decide whether to implement
both atomic_disable and disable, or if it's not necessary.

The mode and ajusted_mode passed to the bridge .mode_set() operation
should never be modified by the bridge (and are not in any of the
existing bridge drivers). Make them const to make this clear.

I just learned that &struct_name.member_name works and looks pretty
even. It doesn't (yet) link to the member directly though, which would
be really good for big structures or vfunc tables (where the
per-member kerneldoc tends to be long).
Also some minor drive-by polish where it makes sense, I read a lot
of docs ...

Originally I wasnt a friend of this style because I thought a
line-break between the "&struct" and "foo" part would break it. But a
quick test shows that " * &struct \n * foo\n" works pefectly well with
current kernel-doc. So time to mass-apply these changes!

Instead of linking encoders and bridges in every driver (and getting it
wrong half of the time, as many drivers forget to set the drm_bridge
encoder pointer), do so in core code. The drm_bridge_attach() function
needs the encoder and optional previous bridge to perform that task,
update all the callers.

Up to now, once a bridge has been attached to a DRM device, it cannot
be undone.
In particular you couldn't rmmod/insmod a DRM driver that uses a bridge,
because the bridge would remain bound to the first (dead) driver instance.
This patch fixes this by introducing drm_encoder_detach() and a ->detach
callback in drm_bridge_funcs for the bridge to be notified about detaches.
It's DRM/KMS driver responsibility to call drm_encoder_detach().
While adding the bridge detach callback, with its kerneldoc, I also added
kerneldoc for attach callback.
Few other kerneldocs fixes around there are included.

Just fallout from switching from asciidoc to sphinx/rst.
v2: Found more. Also s/\//#/ in the vgpu ascii-art - sphinx treats
those as comments and switch to variable-width, which wreaks the
layout.
v3: Undo some of the hacks, rebasing onto latest version of Jani's
series fixed it.

Allow drm_bridge objects to link to each other in order to form an encoder
chain. The requirement for creating a chain of bridges comes because the
MSM drm driver uses up its encoder and bridge objects for blocks within
the SoC itself. There isn't anything left to use if the SoC display output
is connected to an external encoder IC. Having an additional bridge
connected to the existing bridge helps here. In general, it is possible for
platforms to have multiple devices between the encoder and the
connector/panel that require some sort of configuration.
We create drm bridge helper functions corresponding to each op in
'drm_bridge_funcs'. These helpers call the corresponding
'drm_bridge_funcs' op for the entire chain of bridges. These helpers are
used internally by drm_atomic_helper.c and drm_crtc_helper.c.
The drm_bridge_enable/pre_enable helpers execute enable/pre_enable ops of
the bridge closet to the encoder, and proceed until the last bridge in the
chain is enabled. The same holds for drm_bridge_mode_set/mode_fixup
helpers. The drm_bridge_disable/post_disable helpers disable the last
bridge in the chain first, and proceed until the first bridge in the chain
is disabled.
drm_bridge_attach() remains the same. As before, the driver calling this
function should make sure it has set the links correctly. The order in
which the bridges are connected to each other determines the order in which
the calls are made. One requirement is that every bridge in the chain
should point the parent encoder object. This is required since bridge
drivers expect a valid encoder pointer in drm_bridge. For example, consider
a chain where an encoder's output is connected to bridge1, and bridge1's
output is connected to bridge2:

This method of bridge chaining isn't intrusive and existing drivers that
use drm_bridge will behave the same way as before. The bridge helpers also
cleans up the atomic and crtc helper files a bit.

Currently, third party bridge drivers(ptn3460) are dependent
on the corresponding encoder driver init, since bridge driver
needs a drm_device pointer to finish drm initializations.
The encoder driver passes the drm_device pointer to the
bridge driver. Because of this dependency, third party drivers
like ptn3460 doesn't adhere to the driver model.
In this patch, we reframe the bridge registration framework
so that bridge initialization is split into 2 steps, and
bridge registration happens independent of drm flow:
--Step 1: gather all the bridge settings independent of drm and
add the bridge onto a global list of bridges.
--Step 2: when the encoder driver is probed, call drm_bridge_attach
for the corresponding bridge so that the bridge receives
drm_device pointer and continues with connector and other
drm initializations.
The old set of bridge helpers are removed, and a set of new helpers
are added to accomplish the 2 step initialization.
The bridge devices register themselves onto global list of bridges
when they get probed by calling "drm_bridge_add".
The parent encoder driver waits till the bridge is available
in the lookup table(by calling "of_drm_find_bridge") and then
continues with its initialization.
The encoder driver should also call "drm_bridge_attach" to pass
on the drm_device to the bridge object.
drm_bridge_attach inturn calls "bridge->funcs->attach" so that
bridge can continue with drm related initializations.
