Jakub Kicinski e6e5904455 codel: remove unnecessary pkt_sched.h include
Commit d068ca2ae2 ("codel: split into multiple files") moved all
Qdisc-related code to codel_qdisc.h, move the include of pkt_sched.h
as well.

This is similar to the previous commit, although we don't care as
much about incremental builds after pkt_sched.h was touched itself
it is included by net/sch_generic.h which is modified ~20 times
a year.

This decreases the incremental build size after touching pkt_sched.h
from 1592 to 617 objects.

Fix unmasked missing includes in WiFi drivers.

Jakub Kicinski 15fcb10311 codel: remove unnecessary sock.h include
Since sock.h is modified relatively often (60 times in the last
12 months) it seems worthwhile to decrease the incremental build
work.

CoDel's header includes net/inet_ecn.h which in turn includes net/sock.h.
codel.h is itself included by mac80211 which is included by much of
the WiFi stack and drivers. Removing the net/inet_ecn.h include from
CoDel breaks the dependecy between WiFi and sock.h.

Commit d068ca2ae2 ("codel: split into multiple files") moved all
the code which actually needs ECN helpers out to net/codel_impl.h,
the include can be moved there as well.

This decreases the incremental build size after touching sock.h
from 4999 objects to 4051 objects.

Fix unmasked missing includes in WiFi drivers.

Toke Høiland-Jørgensen dfcb63ce1d fq_codel: generalise ce_threshold marking for subset of traffic
Commit e72aeb9ee0 ("fq_codel: implement L4S style ce_threshold_ect1
marking") expanded the ce_threshold feature of FQ-CoDel so it can
be applied to a subset of the traffic, using the ECT(1) bit of the ECN
field as the classifier. However, hard-coding ECT(1) as the only
classifier for this feature seems limiting, so let's expand it to be more
general.

To this end, change the parameter from a ce_threshold_ect1 boolean, to a
one-byte selector/mask pair (ce_threshold_{selector,mask}) which is applied
to the whole diffserv/ECN field in the IP header. This makes it possible to
classify packets by any value in either the ECN field or the diffserv
field. In particular, setting a selector of INET_ECN_ECT_1 and a mask of
INET_ECN_MASK corresponds to the functionality before this patch, and a
mask of ~INET_ECN_MASK allows using the selector as a straight-forward
match against a diffserv code point:

Regardless of the selector chosen, the normal rules for ECN-marking of
packets still apply, i.e., the flow must still declare itself ECN-capable
by setting one of the bits in the ECN field to get marked at all.

Eric Dumazet e72aeb9ee0 fq_codel: implement L4S style ce_threshold_ect1 marking
Add TCA_FQ_CODEL_CE_THRESHOLD_ECT1 boolean option to select Low Latency,
Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S) style marking, along with ce_threshold.

If enabled, only packets with ECT(1) can be transformed to CE
if their sojourn time is above the ce_threshold.

Note that this new option does not change rules for codel law.
In particular, if TCA_FQ_CODEL_ECN is left enabled (this is
the default when fq_codel qdisc is created), ECT(0) packets can
still get CE if codel law (as governed by limit/target) decides so.

Section 4.3.b of current draft [1] states:

b.  A scheduler with per-flow queues such as FQ-CoDel or FQ-PIE can
    be used for L4S.  For instance within each queue of an FQ-CoDel
    system, as well as a CoDel AQM, there is typically also ECN
    marking at an immediate (unsmoothed) shallow threshold to support
    use in data centres (see Sec.5.2.7 of [RFC8290]).  This can be
    modified so that the shallow threshold is solely applied to
    ECT(1) packets.  Then if there is a flow of non-ECN or ECT(0)
    packets in the per-flow-queue, the Classic AQM (e.g.  CoDel) is
    applied; while if there is a flow of ECT(1) packets in the queue,
    the shallower (typically sub-millisecond) threshold is applied.

Michal Kazior d068ca2ae2 codel: split into multiple files
It was impossible to include codel.h for the
purpose of having access to codel_params or
codel_vars structure definitions and using them
for embedding in other more complex structures.

This splits allows codel.h itself to be treated
like any other header file while codel_qdisc.h and
codel_impl.h contain function definitions with
logic that was previously in codel.h.

This copies over copyrights and doesn't involve
code changes other than adding a few additional
include directives to net/sched/sch*codel.c.

WANG Cong 2ccccf5fb4 net_sched: update hierarchical backlog too
When the bottom qdisc decides to, for example, drop some packet,
it calls qdisc_tree_decrease_qlen() to update the queue length
for all its ancestors, we need to update the backlog too to
keep the stats on root qdisc accurate.

Four minor merge conflicts:

1) qca_spi.c renamed the local variable used for the SPI device
   from spi_device to spi, meanwhile the spi_set_drvdata() call
   got moved further up in the probe function.

2) Two changes were both adding new members to codel params
   structure, and thus we had overlapping changes to the
   initializer function.

3) 'net' was making a fix to sk_release_kernel() which is
   completely removed in 'net-next'.

4) In net_namespace.c, the rtnl_net_fill() call for GET operations
   had the command value fixed, meanwhile 'net-next' adjusted the
   argument signature a bit.

This also matches example merge resolutions posted by Stephen
Rothwell over the past two days.

Eric Dumazet 80ba92fa1a codel: add ce_threshold attribute
For DCTCP or similar ECN based deployments on fabrics with shallow
buffers, hosts are responsible for a good part of the buffering.

This patch adds an optional ce_threshold to codel & fq_codel qdiscs,
so that DCTCP can have feedback from queuing in the host.

A DCTCP enabled egress port simply have a queue occupancy threshold
above which ECT packets get CE mark.

In codel language this translates to a sojourn time, so that one doesn't
have to worry about bytes or bandwidth but delays.

This makes the host an active participant in the health of the whole
network.

This also helps experimenting DCTCP in a setup without DCTCP compliant
fabric.

On following example, ce_threshold is set to 1ms, and we can see from
'ldelay xxx us' that TCP is not trying to go around the 5ms codel
target.

Queue has more capacity to absorb inelastic bursts (say from UDP
traffic), as queues are maintained to an optimal level.

Eric Dumazet a5d2809040 codel: fix maxpacket/mtu confusion
Under presence of TSO/GSO/GRO packets, codel at low rates can be quite
useless. In following example, not a single packet was ever dropped,
while average delay in codel queue is ~100 ms !

This comes from a confusion of what should be the minimal backlog. It is
pretty clear it is not 64KB or whatever max GSO packet ever reached the
qdisc.

codel intent was to use MTU of the device.

After the fix, we finally drop some packets, and rtt/cwnd of my single
TCP flow are meeting our expectations.

Daniel Borkmann 89770b0a69 net: introduce reciprocal_scale helper and convert users
As David Laight suggests, we shouldn't necessarily call this
reciprocal_divide() when users didn't requested a reciprocal_value();
lets keep the basic idea and call it reciprocal_scale(). More

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 1ba3aab303 net: codel: Avoid undefined behavior from signed overflow
As described in commit 5a581b367 (jiffies: Avoid undefined
behavior from signed overflow), according to the C standard
3.4.3p3, overflow of a signed integer results in undefined
behavior.

To fix this, do as the above commit, and do an unsigned
subtraction, and interpreting the result as a signed
two's-complement number.  This is based on the theory from
RFC 1982 and is nicely described in wikipedia here:
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_number_arithmetic#General_Solution

A side-note, I have seen practical issues with the previous logic
when dealing with 16-bit, on a 64-bit machine (gcc version
4.4.5). This were 32-bit, which I have not observed issues with.

Eric Dumazet 2359a47671 codel: refine one condition to avoid a nul rec_inv_sqrt
One condition before codel_Newton_step() was not good if
we never left the dropping state for a flow. As a result
rec_inv_sqrt was 0, instead of the ~0 initial value.

codel control law was then set to a very aggressive mode, dropping
many packets before reaching 'target' and recovering from this problem.

To keep codel_vars_init() as efficient as possible, refine
the condition to make sure rec_inv_sqrt initial value is correct

Eric Dumazet 865ec5523d fq_codel: should use qdisc backlog as threshold
codel_should_drop() logic allows a packet being not dropped if queue
size is under max packet size.

In fq_codel, we have two possible backlogs : The qdisc global one, and
the flow local one.

The meaningful one for codel_should_drop() should be the global backlog,
not the per flow one, so that thin flows can have a non zero drop/mark
probability.

Eric Dumazet 6ff272c9ad codel: use u16 field instead of 31bits for rec_inv_sqrt
David pointed out gcc might generate poor code with 31bit fields.

Using u16 is more than enough and permits a better code output.

Also make the code intent more readable using constants, fixed point arithmetic
not being trivial for everybody.

Eric Dumazet 536edd6710 codel: use Newton method instead of sqrt() and divides
As Van pointed out, interval/sqrt(count) can be implemented using
multiplies only.

This patch implements the Newton method and reciprocal divide.

Total cost is 15 cycles instead of 120 on my Corei5 machine (64bit
kernel).

There is a small 'error' for count values < 5, but we don't really care.

I reuse a hole in struct codel_vars :
 - pack the dropping boolean into one bit
 - use 31bit to store the reciprocal value of sqrt(count).

Eric Dumazet 76e3cc126b codel: Controlled Delay AQM
An implementation of CoDel AQM, from Kathleen Nichols and Van Jacobson.

This AQM main input is no longer queue size in bytes or packets, but the
delay packets stay in (FIFO) queue.

As we don't have infinite memory, we still can drop packets in enqueue()
in case of massive load, but mean of CoDel is to drop packets in
dequeue(), using a control law based on two simple parameters :

target : target sojourn time (default 5ms)
interval : width of moving time window (default 100ms)

Based on initial work from Dave Taht.

Refactored to help future codel inclusion as a plugin for other linux
qdisc (FQ_CODEL, ...), like RED.

include/net/codel.h contains codel algorithm as close as possible than
Kathleen reference.

net/sched/sch_codel.c contains the linux qdisc specific glue.

Separate structures permit a memory efficient implementation of fq_codel
(to be sent as a separate work) : Each flow has its own struct
codel_vars.

timestamps are taken at enqueue() time with 1024 ns precision, allowing
a range of 2199 seconds in queue, and 100Gb links support. iproute2 uses
usec as base unit.

Selected packets are dropped, unless ECN is enabled and packets can get
ECN mark instead.

Tested from 2Mb to 10Gb speeds with no particular problems, on ixgbe and
tg3 drivers (BQL enabled).

CoDel must be seen as a base module, and should be used keeping in mind
there is still a FIFO queue. So a typical setup will probably need a
hierarchy of several qdiscs and packet classifiers to be able to meet
whatever constraints a user might have.

One possible example would be to use fq_codel, which combines Fair
Queueing and CoDel, in replacement of sfq / sfq_red.
