Ian Rogers e54dea69cd perf dso: Hold lock when accessing nsinfo
There may be threads racing to update dso->nsinfo:

  https://lore.kernel.org/linux-perf-users/CAP-5=fWZH20L4kv-BwVtGLwR=Em3AOOT+Q4QGivvQuYn5AsPRg@mail.gmail.com/

Holding the dso->lock avoids use-after-free, memory leaks and other such
bugs. Apply the fix in:

  https://lore.kernel.org/linux-perf-users/20211118193714.2293728-1-irogers@google.com/

of there being a missing nsinfo__put now that the accesses are data race
free. Fixes test "Lookup mmap thread" when compiled with address
sanitizer.

Namhyung Kim 67fd189246 perf tools: Try chroot'ed filename when opening dso/symbol
Currently it doesn't handle tasks in chroot properly. As filenames in
MMAP records base on their root directory, it's different than what perf
tool can see from outside.

Add filename_with_chroot() helper to deal with those cases. The
function returns a new filename only if it's in a different root
directory. Since it needs to access /proc for the process, it only
works until the task exits.

With this change, I can see symbols in my program like below.

  # perf record -o- chroot myroot myprog 3 | perf report -i-
  ...
  #
  # Overhead Command Shared Object Symbol
  # ........ ....... ................. .............................

Namhyung Kim 4a86d41404 perf tools: Allow build-id with trailing zeros
Currently perf saves a build-id with size but old versions assumes the
size of 20. In case the build-id is less than 20 (like for MD5), it'd
fill the rest with 0s.

I saw a problem when old version of perf record saved a binary in the
build-id cache and new version of perf reads the data. The symbols
should be read from the build-id cache (as the path no longer has the
same binary) but it failed due to mismatch in the build-id.

symsrc__init: build id mismatch for /home/namhyung/.debug/.build-id/53/e4c2f42a4c61a2d632d92a72afa08f00000000/elf.

The build-id event in the data has 20 byte build-ids, but it saw a
different size (16) when it reads the build-id of the elf file in the
build-id cache.

  $ readelf -n ~/.debug/.build-id/53/e4c2f42a4c61a2d632d92a72afa08f00000000/elf

  Displaying notes found in: .note.gnu.build-id
    Owner Data size Description
GNU 0x00000010	NT_GNU_BUILD_ID (unique build ID bitstring)
      Build ID: 53e4c2f42a4c61a2d632d92a72afa08f

Let's fix this by allowing trailing zeros if the size is different.

Riccardo Mancini 581e295a0f perf dso: Fix memory leak in dso__new_map()
ASan reports a memory leak when running:

  # perf test "65: maps__merge_in".

The causes of the leaks are two, this patch addresses only the first
one, which is related to dso__new_map().

The bug is that dso__new_map() creates a new dso but never decreases the
refcount it gets from creating it.

This patch adds the missing dso__put().

Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo 0e3149f86b perf dso: Move dso_id from 'struct map' to 'struct dso'
And take it into account when looking up DSOs when we have the dso_id
fields obtained from somewhere, like from PERF_RECORD_MMAP2 records.

Instances of struct map pointing to the same DSO pathname but with
anything in dso_id different are in fact different DSOs, so better have
different 'struct dso' instances to reflect that. At some point we may
want to get copies of the contents of the different objects if we want
to do correct annotation or other analysis.

With this we get 'struct map' 24 bytes leaner:

  $ pahole -C map ~/bin/perf

Song Liu 9b86d04d53 perf symbols: Introduce DSO_BINARY_TYPE__BPF_PROG_INFO
Introduce a new dso type DSO_BINARY_TYPE__BPF_PROG_INFO for BPF programs. In
symbol__disassemble(), DSO_BINARY_TYPE__BPF_PROG_INFO dso will call into a new
function symbol__disassemble_bpf() in an upcoming patch, where annotation line
information is filled based bpf_prog_info and btf saved in given perf_env.

Committer notes:

Removed the unnamed union with 'bpf_prog' and 'cache' in 'struct dso',
to fix this bug when exiting 'perf top':

  # perf top

That is trying to access the dso->data.cache, and that is not used with
BPF programs, so we end up accessing what is in bpf_prog.first_member,
b00m.

the file is compressed or != 0 if not.

The new callback is used to recognize the situation when we have a
'compressed' object, like:

  /lib/modules/.../drivers/net/ethernet/intel/igb/igb.ko.xz

but we need to read its debug data from debuginfo files, which might not
be compressed, like:

  /root/.debug/.build-id/d6/...c4b301f/debug

So even for a 'compressed' object we read debug data from a plain
uncompressed object. To keep this transparent, we detect this in
decompress_kmodule() and return the file descriptor to the uncompressed
file.

Jiri Olsa c9a8a6131f perf tools: Move the temp file processing into decompress_kmodule
We will add a compression check in the following patch and it makes it
easier if the file processing is done in a single place. It also makes
the current code simpler.

The decompress_kmodule function now returns the fd of the uncompressed
file and the file name in the pathname arg, if it's provided.

Jiri Olsa 4b838b0db4 perf tools: Add compression id into 'struct kmod_path'
Store a decompression ID in 'struct kmod_path', so it can be later
stored in 'struct dso'.

Switch 'struct kmod_path's 'comp' from 'bool' to 'int' to return the
compressions array index. Add 0 index item into compressions array, so
that the comp usage stays as it was: 0 - no compression, != 0
compression index.

Update the kmod_path tests.

Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo 3183f8ca30 perf symbols: Unify symbol maps
Remove the split of symbol tables for data (MAP__VARIABLE) and for
functions (MAP__FUNCTION), its unneeded and there were various places
doing two lookups to find a symbol, so simplify this.

We still will consider only the symbols that matched the filters in
place, i.e. see the (elf_(sec,sym)|symbol_type)__filter() routines in
the patch, just so that we consider only the same symbols as before,
to reduce the possibility of regressions.

All the tests on 50-something build environments, in varios versions
of lots of distros and cross build environments were performed without
build regressions, as usual with all pull requests the other tests were
also performed: 'perf test' and 'make -C tools/perf build-test'.

Also this was done at a great granularity so that regressions can be
bisected more easily.
