Geert Uytterhoeven d02aa181ee phy: Add devm_of_phy_optional_get() helper
Add an optional variant of devm_of_phy_get() that also takes care of
printing real errors, so drivers no longer have to open-code this
operation.

There were never any upstream users of this function since its

Besides, the dummy for phy_optional_get() should have returned NULL

Maximilian Luz b09ee1cd59 platform/surface: aggregator: Rename top-level request functions to avoid ambiguities
We currently have a struct ssam_request_sync and a function
ssam_request_sync(). While this is valid C, there are some downsides to
it.

One of these is that current Sphinx versions (>= 3.0) cannot
disambiguate between the two (see disucssion and pull request linked
below). It instead emits a "WARNING: Duplicate C declaration" and links
for the struct and function in the resulting documentation link to the
same entry (i.e. both to either function or struct documentation)
instead of their respective own entries.

While we could just ignore that and wait for a fix, there's also a point
to be made that the current naming can be somewhat confusing when
searching (e.g. via grep) or trying to understand the levels of
abstraction at play:

We currently have struct ssam_request_sync and associated functions
ssam_request_sync_[alloc|free|init|wait|...]() operating on this struct.
However, function ssam_request_sync() is one abstraction level above
this. Similarly, ssam_request_sync_with_buffer() is not a function
operating on struct ssam_request_sync, but rather a sibling to
ssam_request_sync(), both using the struct under the hood.

Therefore, rename the top level request functions:

  ssam_request_sync() -> ssam_request_do_sync()
  ssam_request_sync_with_buffer() -> ssam_request_do_sync_with_buffer()
  ssam_request_sync_onstack() -> ssam_request_do_sync_onstack()

Maximilian Luz 3f88b459a7 platform/surface: aggregator: Improve documentation and handling of message target and source IDs
The `tid_in` and `tid_out` fields of the serial hub protocol command
struct (struct ssh_command) are actually source and target IDs,
indicating the peer from which the message originated and the peer for
which it is intended.

Change the naming of those fields accordingly and improve the protocol
documentation. Additionally, introduce an enum containing all currently
known peers, i.e. targets and sources.

Srinivas Pandruvada 5c36cf2784 thermal: intel: int340x: Add production mode attribute
It is possible that the system manufacturer locks down thermal tuning
beyond what is usually done on the given platform. In that case user
space calibration tools should not try to adjust the thermal
configuration of the system.

To allow user space to check if that is the case, add a new sysfs

method is present under the INT3400 device object in the ACPI Namespace.

Linus Torvalds 71a7507afb Driver Core changes for 6.2-rc1
Here is the set of driver core and kernfs changes for 6.2-rc1.

The "big" change in here is the addition of a new macro,
container_of_const() that will preserve the "const-ness" of a pointer
 passed into it.

The "problem" of the current container_of() macro is that if you pass in
a "const *", out of it can comes a non-const pointer unless you
specifically ask for it. For many usages, we want to preserve the
"const" attribute by using the same call. For a specific example, this
series changes the kobj_to_dev() macro to use it, allowing it to be used
no matter what the const value is. This prevents every subsystem from
having to declare 2 different individual macros (i.e.
kobj_const_to_dev() and kobj_to_dev()) and having the compiler enforce
the const value at build time, which having 2 macros would not do
 either.

The driver for all of this have been discussions with the Rust kernel
developers as to how to properly mark driver core, and kobject, objects
as being "non-mutable". The changes to the kobject and driver core in
this pull request are the result of that, as there are lots of paths
where kobjects and device pointers are not modified at all, so marking
them as "const" allows the compiler to enforce this.

So, a nice side affect of the Rust development effort has been already
to clean up the driver core code to be more obvious about object rules.

All of this has been bike-shedded in quite a lot of detail on lkml with
different names and implementations resulting in the tiny version we
have in here, much better than my original proposal. Lots of subsystem
maintainers have acked the changes as well.

Other than this change, included in here are smaller stuff like:
   - kernfs fixes and updates to handle lock contention better
   - vmlinux.lds.h fixes and updates
   - sysfs and debugfs documentation updates
   - device property updates

All of these have been in the linux-next tree for quite a while with no
problems, OTHER than some merge issues with other trees that should be
obvious when you hit them (block tree deletes a driver that this tree
modifies, iommufd tree modifies code that this tree also touches). If
there are merge problems with these trees, please let me know.

Merge tag 'driver-core-6.2-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core

Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the set of driver core and kernfs changes for 6.2-rc1.

The "big" change in here is the addition of a new macro,
container_of_const() that will preserve the "const-ness" of a pointer
  passed into it.

The "problem" of the current container_of() macro is that if you pass
in a "const *", out of it can comes a non-const pointer unless you
specifically ask for it. For many usages, we want to preserve the
"const" attribute by using the same call. For a specific example, this
series changes the kobj_to_dev() macro to use it, allowing it to be
used no matter what the const value is. This prevents every subsystem
from having to declare 2 different individual macros (i.e.
kobj_const_to_dev() and kobj_to_dev()) and having the compiler enforce
the const value at build time, which having 2 macros would not do
  either.

The driver for all of this have been discussions with the Rust kernel
developers as to how to properly mark driver core, and kobject,
objects as being "non-mutable". The changes to the kobject and driver
core in this pull request are the result of that, as there are lots of
paths where kobjects and device pointers are not modified at all, so
marking them as "const" allows the compiler to enforce this.

So, a nice side affect of the Rust development effort has been already
to clean up the driver core code to be more obvious about object
  rules.

All of this has been bike-shedded in quite a lot of detail on lkml
with different names and implementations resulting in the tiny version
we have in here, much better than my original proposal. Lots of
subsystem maintainers have acked the changes as well.

Other than this change, included in here are smaller stuff like:

   - kernfs fixes and updates to handle lock contention better

   - vmlinux.lds.h fixes and updates

   - sysfs and debugfs documentation updates

   - device property updates

All of these have been in the linux-next tree for quite a while with
  no problems"

Linus Torvalds dd6f9b17cd TTY/Serial driver changes for 6.2-rc1
Here is the "big" set of tty/serial driver changes for 6.2-rc1.

As in previous kernel releases, nothing big here at all, just some small
incremental serial/tty layer cleanups and some individual driver
 additions and fixes. Highlights are:
   - serial helper macros from Jiri Slaby to reduce the amount of
     duplicated code in serial drivers
   - api cleanups and consolidations from Ilpo Järvinen in lots of serial
     drivers
   - the usual set of n_gsm fixes from Daniel Starke as that code gets
     exercised more
   - TIOCSTI is finally able to be disabled if requested (security
     hardening feature from Kees Cook)
   - fsl_lpuart driver fixes and features added
   - other small serial driver additions and fixes

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

Linus Torvalds d0f3ad23cf spi: Updates for v6.2
A busy enough release, but not for the core which has only seen very
small updates. The biggest addition is the readdition of support for
detailed configuration of the timings around chip selects. That had
been removed for lack of use but there's been applications found for it
on Atmel systems. Otherwise the updates are mostly feature additions
 and cleanups to existing drivers.

  - Provide a helper for getting device match data in a way that
abstracts away which firmware interface is being used.
  - Re-add the spi_set_cs_timing() API for detailed configuration of the
timing around chip select and support it on Atmel.
  - Support for MediaTek MT7986, Microchip PCI1xxxx, Nuvoton WPCM450 FIU
    and Socionext F_OSPI.

There's a straightforward add/add conflict with the rpmsg tree in the
xilinx firmware code (both trees got new users of the firmware added
 each needing new firmware<->kernel ioctls).

There's a cross tree merge with I2C in order to use the new
i2c_client_get_device_id() helper in some I2C attached SPI controllers
as part of their conversion to I2C's probe_new() API.

Linus Torvalds c5589c436d regulator: Updates for v6.2
Quite a quiet release for regulator, the diffstat is dominated by the
I2C migration to probe_new() and the newly added MT6357 driver. We've
just one framework addition and the rest is all new device support,
 fixes and cleanups.

The framework addition is an API for requesting all regulators defined
in DT, this isn't great practice but has reasonable applications when
there is generic code handling devices on buses where the bus
specification doesn't include power. The immediate application is MDIO
but I believe there's others, it's another API that'll need an eye
keeping on it for undesirable usage.

  - An API for requesting all regulators defined in DT.
  - Conversion of lots of drivers to the I2C probe_new() API.
  - Support for Mediatek MT6357, Qualcomm PM8550, PMR735a and
    Richtek RT6190.

There's a cross tree merge with the I2C tree in order to use the new
i2c_client_get_device_id() helper in the conversions to probe_new().

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"The biggest highlight is that the accel subsystem framework is merged.
Hopefully for 6.3 we will be able to line up a driver to use it.

In drivers land, i915 enables DG2 support by default now, and nouveau
has a big stability refactoring and initial ampere support, AMD
includes new hw IP support and should build on ARM again. There is
also an ofdrm driver to take over offb on platforms it's used.

Stuff outside my tree, the dma-buf patches hit a few places, the vc4
firmware changes also do, and i915 has some interactions with MEI for
discrete GPUs. I think all of those should have been acked/reviewed by
  relevant parties.

Linus Torvalds a7cacfb068 This was a not-too-busy cycle for documentation; highlights include:
- The beginnings of a set of translations into Spanish, headed up by Carlos
   Bilbao.

 - More Chinese translations.

 - A change to the Sphinx "alabaster" theme by default for HTML generation.
Unlike the previous default (Read the Docs), alabaster is shipped with
Sphinx by default, reducing the number of other dependencies that need to
be installed. It also (IMO) produces a cleaner and more readable result.

 - The ability to render the documentation into the texinfo format
(something Sphinx could always do, we just never wired it up until now).

Plus the usual collection of typo fixes, build-warning fixes, and minor
 updates.

Akira Yokosawa 3ec17cb325 docs/driver-api/miscellaneous: Remove kernel-doc of serial_core.c
Since merge of tty-6.0-rc1, "make htmldocs" with Sphinx >=3.1 emits
a bunch of warnings indicating duplicate kernel-doc comments from
drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c.

This is due to the kernel-doc directive for serial_core.c in

Remove the latter directive and resolve the duplicates.

Jiri Slaby (SUSE) 8275b48b27 tty: serial: introduce transmit helpers
Many serial drivers do the same thing:
* send x_char if set
* keep sending from the xmit circular buffer until either
  - the loop reaches the end of the xmit buffer
  - TX is stopped
  - HW fifo is full
* check for pending characters and:
  - wake up tty writers to fill for more data into xmit buffer
  - stop TX if there is nothing in the xmit buffer

The only differences are:
* how to write the character to the HW fifo
* the check of the end condition:
  - is the HW fifo full?
  - is limit of the written characters reached?

So unify the above into two helpers:
* uart_port_tx_limited() -- it performs the above taking the written
  characters limit into account, and
* uart_port_tx() -- the same as above, except it only checks the HW
  readiness, not the characters limit.

The HW specific operations (as stated as "differences" above) are passed
as arguments to the macros. They are:
* tx_ready -- returns true if HW can accept more data.
* put_char -- write a character to the device.
* tx_done -- when the write loop is done, perform arbitrary action
before potential invocation of ops->stop_tx() happens.

Note that the above are macros. This means the code is generated in
place and the above 3 arguments are "inlined". I.e. no added penalty by
generating call instructions for every single character. Nor any
indirect calls. (As in some previous versions of this patchset.)

Linus Torvalds d3cf405133 VFIO updates for v6.1-rc1
- Prune private items from vfio_pci_core.h to a new internal header,
fix missed function rename, and refactor vfio-pci interrupt defines.
    (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Create consistent naming and handling of ioctls with a function per
ioctl for vfio-pci and vfio group handling, use proper type args
    where available. (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Implement a set of low power device feature ioctls allowing userspace
to make use of power states such as D3cold where supported.
    (Abhishek Sahu)

  - Remove device counter on vfio groups, which had restricted the page
pinning interface to singleton groups to account for limitations in
the type1 IOMMU backend. Document usage as limited to emulated IOMMU
devices, ie. traditional mdev devices where this restriction is
    consistent. (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Correct function prefix in hisi_acc driver incurred during previous
    refactoring. (Shameer Kolothum)

  - Correct typo and remove redundant warning triggers in vfio-fsl driver.
    (Christophe JAILLET)

  - Introduce device level DMA dirty tracking uAPI and implementation in
the mlx5 variant driver (Yishai Hadas & Joao Martins)

  - Move much of the vfio_device life cycle management into vfio core,
simplifying and avoiding duplication across drivers. This also
facilitates adding a struct device to vfio_device which begins the
introduction of device rather than group level user support and fills
a gap allowing userspace identify devices as vfio capable without
implicit knowledge of the driver. (Kevin Tian & Yi Liu)

  - Split vfio container handling to a separate file, creating a more
well defined API between the core and container code, masking IOMMU
backend implementation from the core, allowing for an easier future
transition to an iommufd based implementation of the same.
    (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Attempt to resolve race accessing the iommu_group for a device
between vfio releasing DMA ownership and removal of the device from
the IOMMU driver. Follow-up with support to allow vfio_group to
exist with NULL iommu_group pointer to support existing userspace
use cases of holding the group file open. (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Fix error code and hi/lo register manipulation issues in the hisi_acc
variant driver, along with various code cleanups. (Longfang Liu)

  - Fix a prior regression in GVT-g group teardown, resulting in
    unreleased resources. (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - A significant cleanup and simplification of the mdev interface,
consolidating much of the open coded per driver sysfs interface
support into the mdev core. (Christoph Hellwig)

  - Simplification of tracking and locking around vfio_groups that
fall out from previous refactoring. (Jason Gunthorpe)

  - Replace trivial open coded f_ops tests with new helper.

Linus Torvalds d40c874573 regulator: Updates for v6.1
The core work this time around has mostly been around the code to manage
regulator modes, simplifying the interface for configuring modes to not
take account of the voltage and as a side effect resolving a
bootstrapping issue on systems where we can't read the voltage from the
regulator. Otherwise it's been quite a quiet release with some new
 drivers and a devm helper:

  - Make the load handling in the Qualcomm RPMH regulators much more
idiomatic and general cleanups to the handling of load configuration.
  - devm helper for a combined get and enable operation.
  - Support for MediaTek MT6331, Qualcomm PM660, 660L and PM6125, Texas
    Instruments TPS65219.

Christoph Hellwig da44c340c4 vfio/mdev: simplify mdev_type handling
Instead of abusing struct attribute_group to control initialization of
struct mdev_type, just define the actual attributes in the mdev_driver,
allocate the mdev_type structures in the caller and pass them to
mdev_register_parent.

This allows the caller to use container_of to get at the containing

Laurent Pinchart ae21987283 media: mc: entity: Rewrite media_pipeline_start()
[Note: the code is mostly from Laurent but the patch description is from Tomi]

The media_pipeline_start() and media_pipeline_stop() functions use the
media graph walk API to traverse the graph and validate the pipeline.
The graph walk traverses the media graph following links between the
entities.

Also, while the pipeline can't change between the start and stop calls,
the graph is walked again from scratch at stop time, or any time a
driver needs to inspect the pipeline.

With the upcoming multiplexed streams support we will need a bit more
intelligent pipeline construction, as e.g. two independent streams may
be passing through a single entity via separate pads in which case
those pads should not be part of the same pipeline.

This patch essentially rewrites the media_pipeline_start/stop so that
a pipeline is defined as a set of pads instead of entities and the media
graph traversal considers the pad interdependencies when choosing which
links to follow.

Currently all the entity's pads are considered as interdependent. This
means that the behavior with all the current drivers stays the same, but
in the future we can define a more fine-grained pipeline construction.

Additionally the media pipeline's pads are cached at
media_pipeline_start() time, and re-used at media_pipeline_stop() which
avoid the need to re-walk the whole graph as the previous implementation
did.

Also, caching pads in the pipeline can serve in the future as the
foundation to provide a better API than the media graph walk to drivers
to iterate over pads and entities in the pipeline.

Note that the old media_pipeline_start/stop used the media graph walk
API. The new version does not use the media graph walk API, but instead
a new implementation.

There are two reasons for not changing the graph walk: it proved to be
rather difficult to change the graph walk to have the features
implemented in this patch, and second, this keeps the backward
compatibility of the graph walk as there are users of the graph walk API

The long term plan is that all the existing code would be converted to
use the new cached pipeline, thus allowing us to remove the graph walk.

Linus Torvalds 607ca0f742 TTY / Serial driver changes for 6.0-rc1
Here is the big set of tty and serial driver changes for 6.0-rc1.

It was delayed from last week as I wanted to make sure the last commit
here got some good testing in linux-next and elsewhere as it seemed to
show up only late in testing for some reason.

Nothing major here, just lots of cleanups from Jiri and Ilpo to make the
tty core cleaner (Jiri) and the rs485 code simpler to use (Ilpo). Also
included in here is the obligatory n_gsm updates from Daniel Starke and
lots of tiny driver updates and minor fixes and tweaks for other smaller
 serial drivers.

Full details are in the shortlog.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 problems.

Linus Torvalds 723c188d5c Staging driver patches for 6.0-rc1
Here is the big set of staging driver patches for 6.0-rc1.

Another round where we removed more lines of code than added, always a
nice progression. Some of that came from the movement of the vme code
back into staging, and removal of some other of the vme driver code as
there are no known users and it is very obsolete and unmaintained. It
can be added back easily if someone offers to maintain it.

Other than that this merge has lots of little things:
 	- huge cleanups for r8188eu driver
 	- minor cleanups for other wifi drivers
 	- tiny loop fixes for greybus code
 	- other small coding style fixes

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.
