ACPI GPEs (other than the EC one) can be enabled in two situations.
First, the GPEs with existing _Lxx and _Exx methods are enabled
implicitly by ACPICA during system initialization. Second, the
GPEs without these methods (like GPEs listed by _PRW objects for
wakeup devices) need to be enabled directly by the code that is
going to use them (e.g. ACPI power management or device drivers).
In the former case, if the status of a given GPE is set to start
with, its handler method (either _Lxx or _Exx) needs to be invoked
to take care of the events (possibly) signaled before the GPE was
enabled. In the latter case, however, the first caller of
acpi_enable_gpe() for a given GPE should not be expected to care
about any events that might be signaled through it earlier. In
that case, it is better to clear the status of the GPE before
enabling it, to prevent stale events from triggering unwanted
actions (like spurious system resume, for example).
For this reason, modify acpi_ev_add_gpe_reference() to take an
additional boolean argument indicating whether or not the GPE
status needs to be cleared when its reference counter changes from
zero to one and make acpi_enable_gpe() pass TRUE to it through
that new argument.

After being enabled for the first time, the GPEs may have STS bits already
set. Setting EN bits is not sufficient to trigger the GPEs again, so this
patch polls GPEs after enabling them for the first time.
This is a cleaner version on top of the "GPE clear" fix generated according
to Mika's report and Rafael's original Linux based fix. Based on Linux
commit originated from Rafael J. Wysocki, fixed by Lv Zheng.

If acpi_ev_detect_gpe() is only invoked from the IRQ context, there won't be
more than one _Lxx/_Exx evaluations for one status bit flagging if the IRQ
handlers controlled by the underlying IRQ chip/driver (ex. APIC) are run in
serial. Note that, this is a known potential gap and we had an approach,
locking entire non-raw-handler processes in the top-half IRQ handler and
handling all raw-handlers out of the locked loop to be friendly to those
IRQ chip/driver. But the approach is too complicated while the issue is not
so real, thus ACPICA treated such issue (if any) as a parallelism/quality
issue of the underlying IRQ chip/driver to stop putting it on the radar.
Bug in link #1 is suspiciously reflecting the same cause, and if so, it can
also be fixed by this simpler approach.
But it will be no excuse an ACPICA problem now if ACPICA starts to poll
IRQs itself. In the changed scenario, _Exx will be evaluated from the task
context due to new ACPICA provided "polling after enabling GPEs" mechanism.
And the above figure uses edge-triggered GPEs demonstrating the possibility
of evaluating _Exx twice for one status bit flagging.
As a conclusion, there is now an increased chance of evaluating _Lxx/_Exx
more than once for one status bit flagging.
However this is still not a real problem if the _Lxx/_Exx checks the
underlying hardware IRQ reasoning and finally just changes the 2nd and the
follow-up evaluations into no-ops. Note that _Lxx should always be written
in this way as a level-trigger GPE could have it's status wrongly
duplicated by the underlying IRQ delivery mechanisms. But _Exx may have
very low quality BIOS by BIOS to trigger real issues. For example, trigger
duplicated button notifications.
To solve this issue, we need to stop reading a bunch of enable/status
register bits, but read only one GPE's enable/status bit. And GPE status
register's W1C nature ensures that acknowledging one GPE won't affect
another GPEs' status bits. Thus the hardware GPE architecture has already
provided us with the mechanism of implementing such parallelism.
So we can lock around one GPE handling process to achieve the parallelism:
1. If we can incorporate GPE enable bit check in detection and ensure the
atomicity of the following process (top-half IRQ handler):
READ (enable/status bit)

CLEAR (enable bit)
and handle the GPE after this process, we can ensure that we will only
invoke GPE handler once for one status bit flagging.
2. In addtion for edge-triggered GPEs, if we can ensure the atomicity of
the following process (top-half IRQ handler):
READ (enable/status bit)
if (enabled && raised)
CLEAR (enable bit)
CLEAR (status bit)
and handle the GPE after this process, we can ensure that we will only
invoke GPE handler once for one status bit flagging.
By doing a cleanup in this way, we can remove duplicate GPE handling code
and ensure that all logics are collected in 1 function. And the function
will be safe for both IRQ interrupt and IRQ polling, and will be safe for
us to release and re-acquire acpi_gbl_gpe_lock at any time rather than raw
handler only during the top-half IRQ handler. Lv Zheng.

This patch changes acpi_ev_initialize_region(), stop returning AE_NOT_EXIST
from it so that, not only in acpi_ds_load2_end_op(), but all places invoking
this function won't emit exceptions. The exception can be seen in
acpi_ds_initialize_objects() when certain table loading mode is chosen.
This patch also removes useless acpi_ns_locked from acpi_ev_initialize_region()
as this function will always be invoked with interpreter lock held now, and
the lock granularity has been tuned to lock around _REG execution, thus it
is now handled by acpi_ex_exit_interpreter(). Lv Zheng.

There is a facility in Linux, developers can control the enabling/disabling
of a GPE via /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpexx. This is mainly for
debugging purposes.
But many users expect to use this facility to implement quirks to mask a
specific GPE when there is a gap in Linux causing this GPE to flood. This
is not working correctly because currently this facility invokes
enabling/disabling counting based GPE driver APIs:
acpi_enable_gpe()/acpi_disable_gpe()
and the GPE drivers can still affect the count to mess up the GPE
masking purposes.
However, most of the IRQ chip designs allow masking/unmasking IRQs via a
masking bit which is different from the enabled bit to achieve the same
purpose. But the GPE hardware doesn't contain such a feature, this brings
the trouble.
In this patch, we introduce a software mechanism to implement the GPE
masking feature, and acpi_mask_gpe() are provided to the OSPMs to
mask/unmask GPEs in the above mentioned situation instead of
acpi_enable_gpe()/acpi_disable_gpe(). ACPICA BZ 1102. Lv Zheng.

This patch removes unwanted spaces for typedef. This solution doesn't cover
function types.
Note that the linuxize result of this commit is very giant and should have
many conflicts against the current Linux upstream. Thus it is required to
modify the linuxize result of this commit and the commits around it
manually in order to have them merged to the Linux upstream. Since this is
very costy, we should do this only once, and if we can't ensure to do this
only once, we need to revert the Linux code to the wrong indentation result
before merging the linuxize result of this commit. Lv Zheng.

Current code flow cannot ensure _REG association can happen after the
namespace is initialized, so we move _REG association to where _REG was
about to run to fix this issue.
This issue is detected when acpi_ev_initialize_region() is invoked during
the table loading. And this is one of the most important the root cause why
ACPICA table loading is split into 2 load passes. Lv Zheng.

It is likely that we should synchronously invoke _REG(DISCONNECT) only when
the acpi_remove_address_space_handler() is invoked because of dependencies.
If it is invoked when the object is not referenced, problem may occur
if the operation region fields accessed in _REG are no longer driven by any
device driver.
Noticed that _REG(CONNECT)/_REG(DISCONNECT) only mean to inform the AML of
the handler availability, no return value is required for the caller.
This patch only introduces ACPI_REG_DISCONNECT invaocation, but doesn't

Currently we rely on the logic that GPE blocks will never be deleted,
otherwise we can be broken by the race between acpi_ev_create_gpe_block(),
acpi_ev_delete_gpe_block() and acpi_ev_gpe_detect().
On the other hand, if we want to protect GPE block creation/deletion, we
need to use a different synchronization facility to protect the period
between acpi_ev_gpe_dispatch() and acpi_ev_asynch_enable_gpe(). Which leaves us
no choice but abandoning the ACPI_MTX_EVENTS used during this period.
This patch removes ACPI_MTX_EVENTS used during this period and the
acpi_ev_valid_gpe_event() to reflect current restriction. Lv Zheng.

Use push and pop to both guarantee that the correct alignment is used,
and to restore the alignment to whatever it was before the header
was included.
It is reported that the #pragma pack(push/pop) directives are not supported
by the specific GCCs, but this patch still doesn't affect kernel build
as there are already #pragma pack([1]) directives used in the old ACPICA
headers, which means there shouldn't be GCCs that are currently used to
compile the ACPI kernels do not support #pragma pack() directives.

This patch reflects the improvment of a cleanup step which is performed in
the release process.
There are still spaces in the "linuxized" ACPICA files after special macro
invocations. This is because indent treats comments and pre-processor
directives as spaces, thus we need to skip them.
Before applying this patch, cleanup code will search from keyword back to
end of line and wipe spaces between them.
After applying this patch, cleanup code will search to the end of the macro
invocations, skip "empty lines", "comments" and "pre-processor directives",
then wipe the spaces between the new line and the first non-spaces
characters.
Following improvements are thus achieved in the release automation by this
commit which are originally maintained manually:

During the automatic translation of the upstream ACPICA source code
into Linux kernel source code some extra white spaces are added by
the "indent" program at the beginning of each line which is an
invocation of a macro and there is no ";" at the end of the line.
For this reason, a new mode has been added to the translation scripts
to remove the extra spaces inserted before invoking such macros and add
an empty line between the invocations of such macros (like the other
function declarations). This new mode is executed after executing
"indent" during the Linux release process. Consequently, some
existing ACPICA source code in the Linux kernel tree needs to be
adjusted to allow the new scripts to work correctly.
The affected macros and files are:
1. ACPI_HW_DEPENDENT_RETURN (acpixf.h/acdebug.h/acevents.h):
This macro is used as a wrapper for hardware dependent APIs to offer
a stub when the reduced hardware is configured during compilation.
2. ACPI_EXPORT_SYMBOL (utglobal.c):
This macro is used by Linux to export symbols to be found by Linux
modules. All such invocations are well formatted except those
exported as global variables.
This can help to reduce the source code differences between Linux
and upstream ACPICA, and also help to automate the release process.
No functional or binary generation changes should result from it.

This change adds support to allow hosts to install System Control
Interrupt handlers. Certain ACPI functionality requires the host
to handle raw SCIs. For example, the "SCI Doorbell" that is defined
for memory power state support requires the host device driver to
handle SCIs to examine if the doorbell has been activated. Multiple
SCI handlers can be installed to allow for future expansion.
Debugger support is included.

It is reported when the PCC (Platform Communication Channel, via
MPST table, defined in ACPI specification 5.0) subchannel responds
to the host, it issues an SCI and the host must probe the subchannel

New version of "indent" program will generate different outputs that
will lead to the divergences between the Linux and the ACPICA.
This patch fixes such divergences caused by the "indent" program.
The version of the "indent" used for this patch is "GNU indent 2.2.11".
This patch will not affect the generated vmlinux binary.
This will decrease 581 lines of 20120913 divergence.diff.

This feature provides an automatic device notification for wake devices
when a wakeup GPE occurs and there is no corresponding GPE method or
handler. Rather than ignoring such a GPE, an implicit AML Notify
operation is performed on the parent device object.
This feature is not part of the ACPI specification and is provided for
Windows compatibility only.

The current ACPI GPEs initialization code has a problem that it
enables some GPEs pointed to by device _PRW methods, generally
intended for signaling wakeup events (system or device wakeup).
These GPEs are then almost immediately disabled by the ACPI namespace
scanning code with the help of acpi_gpe_can_wake(), but it would be
better not to enable them at all until really necessary.
Modify the initialization of GPEs so that the ones that have
associated _Lxx or _Exx methods and are not pointed to by any _PRW
methods will be enabled after the namespace scan is complete.

If a handler is installed for a GPE associated with an AML method and
such that it cannot wake up the system from sleep states, the GPE
remains enabled after the handler has been installed, although it
should be disabled in that case to avoid spurious execution of the
handler.
Fix this issue by making acpi_install_gpe_handler() disable GPEs
that were previously associated with AML methods and cannot wake up
the system from sleep states.
Analogously, make acpi_remove_gpe_handler() enable the GPEs that
are associated with AML methods after their handlers have been
removed and cannot wake up the system from sleep states. In addition
to that, fix a code ordering issue in acpi_remove_gpe_handler() that
renders the locking ineffective (ACPI_MTX_EVENTS is released
temporarily in the middle of the routine to wait for the completion
of events already in progress).
For this purpose introduce acpi_raw_disable_gpe() and
acpi_raw_enable_gpe() to be called with acpi_gbl_gpe_lock held
and rework acpi_disable_gpe() and acpi_enable_gpe(), respectively, to
use them. Also rework acpi_gpe_can_wake() to use
acpi_raw_disable_gpe() instead of calling acpi_disable_gpe() after
releasing the lock to avoid the possible theoretical race with
acpi_install_gpe_handler().

The GPE block initialization code in acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block()
uses acpi_set_gpe() to make sure that the GPEs with nonzero
runtime counter will remain enabled, but since it already has
a struct acpi_gpe_event_info object for each GPE, it might use
the low-level GPE enabling function, acpi_clear_and_enable_gpe(),
for this purpose.
To make that happen, move acpi_clear_and_enable_gpe() to
drivers/acpi/acpica/evgpe.c and rename it to acpi_ev_enable_gpe(),
modify the two existing users of it accordingly and modify
acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block() to use it instead of acpi_set_gpe()
and to check its return value.

After the previous patch that introduced acpi_gpe_wakeup() and
modified the ACPI suspend and wakeup code to use it, the third
argument of acpi_{enable|disable}_gpe() and the GPE wakeup
reference counter are not necessary any more. Remove them and
modify all of the users of acpi_{enable|disable}_gpe()
accordingly. Also drop GPE type constants that aren't used
any more.

ACPICA uses acpi_ev_enable_gpe() for enabling GPEs at the low level,
which is incorrect, because this function only enables the GPE if the
corresponding bit in its enable register's enable_for_run mask is set.
This causes acpi_set_gpe() to work incorrectly if used for enabling
GPEs that were not previously enabled with acpi_enable_gpe(). As a
result, among other things, wakeup-only GPEs are never enabled by
acpi_enable_wakeup_device(), so the devices that use them are unable
to wake up the system.
To fix this issue remove acpi_ev_enable_gpe() and its counterpart
acpi_ev_disable_gpe() and replace acpi_hw_low_disable_gpe() with
acpi_hw_low_set_gpe() that will be used instead to manipulate GPE
enable bits at the low level. Make the users of acpi_ev_enable_gpe()
and acpi_ev_disable_gpe() call acpi_hw_low_set_gpe() instead and
make sure that GPE enable masks are only updated by acpi_enable_gpe()
and acpi_disable_gpe() when GPE reference counters change from 0
to 1 and from 1 to 0, respectively.

For all GPEs, including FADT-based and GPE Block Devices, execute
any _PRW methods in the new table, and process any _Lxx/_Exx GPE
methods in the new table. Any runtime GPE that is referred to
by an _Lxx/_Exx method in the new table is immediately enabled.
