New feature:
The "func-no-repeats" option in tracefs/options directory. When set
the function tracer will detect if the current function being traced
is the same as the previous one, and instead of recording it, it will
keep track of the number of times that the function is repeated in a row.
And when another function is recorded, it will write a new event that
shows the function that repeated, the number of times it repeated and
the time stamp of when the last repeated function occurred.
Enhancements:
In order to implement the above "func-no-repeats" option, the ring
buffer timestamp can now give the accurate timestamp of the event
as it is being recorded, instead of having to record an absolute
timestamp for all events. This helps the histogram code which no longer
needs to waste ring buffer space.
New validation logic to make sure all trace events that access
dereferenced pointers do so in a safe way, and will warn otherwise.
Fixes:
No longer limit the PIDs of tasks that are recorded for "saved_cmdlines"
to PID_MAX_DEFAULT (32768), as systemd now allows for a much larger
range. This caused the mapping of PIDs to the task names to be dropped
for all tasks with a PID greater than 32768.
Change trace_clock_global() to never block. This caused a deadlock.
Clean ups:
Typos, prototype fixes, and removing of duplicate or unused code.
Better management of ftrace_page allocations.

vmalloc_to_page returns NULL for addresses mapped by larger pages[*].
Whether or not a vmap is huge depends on the architecture details,
alignments, boot options, etc., which the caller can not be expected to
know. Therefore HUGE_VMAP is a regression for vmalloc_to_page.
This change teaches vmalloc_to_page about larger pages, and returns the
struct page that corresponds to the offset within the large page. This
makes the API agnostic to mapping implementation details.

ARM64 currently defaults to posted MMIO (nGnRE), but some devices
require the use of non-posted MMIO (nGnRnE). Introduce a new ioremap()
variant to handle this case. ioremap_np() returns NULL on arches that
do not implement this variant.
sparc64 is the only architecture that needs to be touched directly,
because it includes neither of the generic io.h or iomap.h headers.
This adds the IORESOURCE_MEM_NONPOSTED flag, which maps to this
variant and marks a given resource as requiring non-posted mappings.
This is implemented in the resource system because it is a SoC-level
requirement, so existing drivers do not need special-case code to pick
this ioremap variant.
Then this is implemented in devres by introducing devm_ioremap_np(),
and making devm_ioremap_resource() automatically select this variant
when the resource has the IORESOURCE_MEM_NONPOSTED flag set.

When userspace calls mprotect() to enable ADI on an address range,
do_mprotect_pkey() calls arch_validate_prot() to validate new
protection flags. arch_validate_prot() for sparc looks at the first
VMA associated with address range to verify if ADI can indeed be
enabled on this address range. This has two issues - (1) Address
range might cover multiple VMAs while arch_validate_prot() looks at
only the first VMA, (2) arch_validate_prot() peeks at VMA without
holding mmap lock which can result in race condition.
arch_validate_flags() from commit c462ac288f ("mm: Introduce
arch_validate_flags()") allows for VMA flags to be validated for all
VMAs that cover the address range given by user while holding mmap
lock. This patch updates sparc code to move the VMA check from
arch_validate_prot() to arch_validate_flags() to fix above two
issues.

include/asm-generic/qrwlock.h was trying to get arch_spin_is_locked via
asm-generic/qspinlock.h. However, this does not work because architectures
might be using queued rwlocks but not queued spinlocks (csky), or because they
might be defining their own queued_* macros before including asm/qspinlock.h.
To fix this, ensure that asm/spinlock.h always includes qrwlock.h after
defining arch_spin_is_locked (either directly for csky, or via
asm/qspinlock.h for other architectures). The only inclusion elsewhere
is in kernel/locking/qrwlock.c. That one is really unnecessary because
the file is only compiled in SMP configurations (config QUEUED_RWLOCKS
depends on SMP) and in that case linux/spinlock.h already includes
asm/qrwlock.h if needed, via asm/spinlock.h.

Patch series "mm/highmem: Fix fallout from generic kmap_local
conversions".
The kmap_local conversion wreckaged sparc, mips and powerpc as it missed
some of the details in the original implementation.
This patch (of 4):
The recent conversion to the generic kmap_local infrastructure failed to
assign the proper pre/post map/unmap flush operations for sparc.
Sparc requires cache flush before map/unmap and tlb flush afterwards.

Pull TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL updates from Jens Axboe:
"This sits on top of of the core entry/exit and x86 entry branch from
the tip tree, which contains the generic and x86 parts of this work.
Here we convert the rest of the archs to support TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL.
With that done, we can get rid of JOBCTL_TASK_WORK from task_work and
signal.c, and also remove a deadlock work-around in io_uring around
knowing that signal based task_work waking is invoked with the sighand
wait queue head lock.
The motivation for this work is to decouple signal notify based
task_work, of which io_uring is a heavy user of, from sighand. The
sighand lock becomes a huge contention point, particularly for
threaded workloads where it's shared between threads. Even outside of
threaded applications it's slower than it needs to be.
Roman Gershman <romger@amazon.com> reported that his networked
workload dropped from 1.6M QPS at 80% CPU to 1.0M QPS at 100% CPU
after io_uring was changed to use TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL. The time was all
spent hammering on the sighand lock, showing 57% of the CPU time there
[1].
There are further cleanups possible on top of this. One example is
TIF_PATCH_PENDING, where a patch already exists to use
TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL instead. Hopefully this will also lead to more
consolidation, but the work stands on its own as well"

Core:
- Better handling of page table leaves on archictectures which have
architectures have non-pagetable aligned huge/large pages. For such
architectures a leaf can actually be part of a larger entry.
- Prevent a deadlock vs. exec_update_mutex
Architectures:
- The related updates for page size calculation of leaf entries
- The usual churn to support new CPUs
- Small fixes and improvements all over the place

Sparc64 has non-pagetable aligned large page support; wire up the
pXX_leaf_size() functions to report the correct pagetable page size.
This enables PERF_SAMPLE_{DATA,CODE}_PAGE_SIZE to report accurate
pagetable leaf sizes.

This option lets a user set a per socket NAPI budget for
busy-polling. If the options is not set, it will use the default of 8.

The existing busy-polling mode, enabled by the SO_BUSY_POLL socket
option or system-wide using the /proc/sys/net/core/busy_read knob, is
an opportunistic. That means that if the NAPI context is not
scheduled, it will poll it. If, after busy-polling, the budget is
exceeded the busy-polling logic will schedule the NAPI onto the
regular softirq handling.
One implication of the behavior above is that a busy/heavy loaded NAPI
context will never enter/allow for busy-polling. Some applications
prefer that most NAPI processing would be done by busy-polling.
This series adds a new socket option, SO_PREFER_BUSY_POLL, that works
in concert with the napi_defer_hard_irqs and gro_flush_timeout
knobs. The napi_defer_hard_irqs and gro_flush_timeout knobs were
introduced in commit 6f8b12d661 ("net: napi: add hard irqs deferral
feature"), and allows for a user to defer interrupts to be enabled and
instead schedule the NAPI context from a watchdog timer. When a user
enables the SO_PREFER_BUSY_POLL, again with the other knobs enabled,
and the NAPI context is being processed by a softirq, the softirq NAPI
processing will exit early to allow the busy-polling to be performed.
If the application stops performing busy-polling via a system call,
the watchdog timer defined by gro_flush_timeout will timeout, and
regular softirq handling will resume.
In summary; Heavy traffic applications that prefer busy-polling over
softirq processing should use this option.
Example usage:
$ echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/net/ens785f1/napi_defer_hard_irqs
$ echo 200000 | sudo tee /sys/class/net/ens785f1/gro_flush_timeout
Note that the timeout should be larger than the userspace processing
window, otherwise the watchdog will timeout and fall back to regular
softirq processing.
Enable the SO_BUSY_POLL/SO_PREFER_BUSY_POLL options on your socket.

Most architectures with the exception of alpha, mips, parisc and
sparc use the same values for these flags. Move their definitions into
asm-generic/signal-defs.h and allow the architectures with non-standard
values to override them. Also, document the non-standard flag values
in order to make it easier to add new generic flags in the future.
A consequence of this change is that on powerpc and x86, the constants'
values aside from SA_RESETHAND change signedness from unsigned
to signed. This is not expected to impact realistic use of these
constants. In particular the typical use of the constants where they
are or'ed together and assigned to sa_flags (or another int variable)
would not be affected.

Use a more generic form for __section that requires quotes to avoid
complications with clang and gcc differences.
Remove the quote operator # from compiler_attributes.h __section macro.
Convert all unquoted __section(foo) uses to quoted __section("foo").
Also convert __attribute__((section("foo"))) uses to __section("foo")
even if the __attribute__ has multiple list entry forms.
