Linus Torvalds c6536676c7 - turn the stack canary into a normal __percpu variable on 32-bit which
gets rid of the LAZY_GS stuff and a lot of code.
 
 - Add an insn_decode() API which all users of the instruction decoder
 should preferrably use. Its goal is to keep the details of the
 instruction decoder away from its users and simplify and streamline how
 one decodes insns in the kernel. Convert its users to it.

Chris von Recklinghausen f5d1499ae2 PM: hibernate: x86: Use crc32 instead of md5 for hibernation e820 integrity check
Hibernation fails on a system in fips mode because md5 is used for the e820
integrity check and is not available. Use crc32 instead.

The check is intended to detect whether the E820 memory map provided
by the firmware after cold boot unexpectedly differs from the one that
was in use when the hibernation image was created. In this case, the
hibernation image cannot be restored, as it may cover memory regions
that are no longer available to the OS.

A non-cryptographic checksum such as CRC-32 is sufficient to detect such
inadvertent deviations.

Andy Lutomirski 3fb0fdb3bb x86/stackprotector/32: Make the canary into a regular percpu variable
On 32-bit kernels, the stackprotector canary is quite nasty -- it is
stored at %gs:(20), which is nasty because 32-bit kernels use %fs for
percpu storage.  It's even nastier because it means that whether %gs
contains userspace state or kernel state while running kernel code
depends on whether stackprotector is enabled (this is
CONFIG_X86_32_LAZY_GS), and this setting radically changes the way
that segment selectors work.  Supporting both variants is a
maintenance and testing mess.

Merely rearranging so that percpu and the stack canary
share the same segment would be messy as the 32-bit percpu address
layout isn't currently compatible with putting a variable at a fixed
offset.

Fortunately, GCC 8.1 added options that allow the stack canary to be
accessed as %fs:__stack_chk_guard, effectively turning it into an ordinary
percpu variable.  This lets us get rid of all of the code to manage the
stack canary GDT descriptor and the CONFIG_X86_32_LAZY_GS mess.

(That name is special.  We could use any symbol we want for the
 %fs-relative mode, but for CONFIG_SMP=n, gcc refuses to let us use any
 name other than __stack_chk_guard.)

Forcibly disable stackprotector on older compilers that don't support
the new options and turn the stack canary into a percpu variable. The
"lazy GS" approach is now used for all 32-bit configurations.

Also makes load_gs_index() work on 32-bit kernels. On 64-bit kernels,
it loads the GS selector and updates the user GSBASE accordingly. (This
is unchanged.) On 32-bit kernels, it loads the GS selector and updates
GSBASE, which is now always the user base. This means that the overall
effect is the same on 32-bit and 64-bit, which avoids some ifdeffery.

attributes, which breaks __restore_processor_state() that relies on

Josh Poimboeuf 9077c016a3 x86/power: Support objtool validation in hibernate_asm_64.S
The OBJECT_FILES_NON_STANDARD annotation is used to tell objtool to
ignore a file.  File-level ignores won't work when validating vmlinux.o.

Instead, convert restore_image() and core_restore_code() to be ELF
functions.  Their code is conventional enough for objtool to be able to
understand them.

Josh Poimboeuf 125f0b7d24 x86/power: Move restore_registers() to top of the file
Because restore_registers() is page-aligned, the assembler inexplicably
adds an unreachable jump from after the end of the previous function to
the beginning of restore_registers().

That confuses objtool, understandably.  It also creates significant text
fragmentation.  As a result, most of the object file is wasted text
(nops).

Move restore_registers() to the beginning of the file to both prevent
the text fragmentation and avoid the dead jump instruction.

Waiman Long 453431a549 mm, treewide: rename kzfree() to kfree_sensitive()
As said by Linus:

  A symmetric naming is only helpful if it implies symmetries in use.
  Otherwise it's actively misleading.

  In "kzalloc()", the z is meaningful and an important part of what the
  caller wants.

  In "kzfree()", the z is actively detrimental, because maybe in the
  future we really _might_ want to use that "memfill(0xdeadbeef)" or
  something. The "zero" part of the interface isn't even _relevant_.

The main reason that kzfree() exists is to clear sensitive information
that should not be leaked to other future users of the same memory
objects.

Rename kzfree() to kfree_sensitive() to follow the example of the recently
added kvfree_sensitive() and make the intention of the API more explicit.
In addition, memzero_explicit() is used to clear the memory to make sure
that it won't get optimized away by the compiler.

The renaming is done by using the command sequence:

Masahiro Yamada 893ab00439 kbuild: remove cc-option test of -fno-stack-protector
Some Makefiles already pass -fno-stack-protector unconditionally.
For example, arch/arm64/kernel/vdso/Makefile, arch/x86/xen/Makefile.

No problem report so far about hard-coding this option. So, we can
assume all supported compilers know -fno-stack-protector.

GCC 4.8 and Clang support this option (https://godbolt.org/z/_HDGzN)

Get rid of cc-option from -fno-stack-protector.

Remove CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE, which is always 'y'.

Note:
arch/mips/vdso/Makefile adds -fno-stack-protector twice, first
unconditionally, and second conditionally. I removed the second one.

Sean Christopherson 5d5103595e x86/cpu: Reinitialize IA32_FEAT_CTL MSR on BSP during wakeup
Reinitialize IA32_FEAT_CTL on the BSP during wakeup to handle the case
where firmware doesn't initialize or save/restore across S3.  This fixes
a bug where IA32_FEAT_CTL is left uninitialized and results in VMXON
taking a #GP due to VMX not being fully enabled, i.e. breaks KVM.

Use init_ia32_feat_ctl() to "restore" IA32_FEAT_CTL as it already deals
with the case where the MSR is locked, and because APs already redo
init_ia32_feat_ctl() during suspend by virtue of the SMP boot flow being
used to reinitialize APs upon wakeup.  Do the call in the early wakeup
flow to avoid dependencies in the syscore_ops chain, e.g. simply adding
a resume hook is not guaranteed to work, as KVM does VMXON in its own
resume hook, kvm_resume(), when KVM has active guests.

Jiri Slaby 6dcc5627f6 x86/asm: Change all ENTRY+ENDPROC to SYM_FUNC_*
These are all functions which are invoked from elsewhere, so annotate
them as global using the new SYM_FUNC_START and their ENDPROC's by
SYM_FUNC_END.

Make sure ENTRY/ENDPROC is not defined on X86_64, given these were the
last users.

   brought online at least once so that a broadcast does not end up in
   some dead end in BIOS/SMM code when the CPU is still waiting for
   init. Once all CPUs have been brought up once, IPI broadcasting is
   enabled. Before that regular one by one IPIs are issued.

 - Drop the paravirt CR8 related functions as they have no user anymore

 - Initialize the APIC TPR to block interrupt 16-31 as they are reserved
   for CPU exceptions and should never be raised by any well behaving
   device.

 - Emit a warning when vector space exhaustion breaks the admin set
   affinity of an interrupt.

 - Make sure to use the NMI fallback when shutdown via reboot vector IPI
   fails. The original code had conditions which prevent the code path
   to be reached.

 - Annotate various APIC config variables as RO after init.

Tom Lendacky c49a0a8013 x86/CPU/AMD: Clear RDRAND CPUID bit on AMD family 15h/16h
There have been reports of RDRAND issues after resuming from suspend on
some AMD family 15h and family 16h systems. This issue stems from a BIOS
not performing the proper steps during resume to ensure RDRAND continues
to function properly.

RDRAND support is indicated by CPUID Fn00000001_ECX[30]. This bit can be
reset by clearing MSR C001_1004[62]. Any software that checks for RDRAND
support using CPUID, including the kernel, will believe that RDRAND is
not supported.

Update the CPU initialization to clear the RDRAND CPUID bit for any family
15h and 16h processor that supports RDRAND. If it is known that the family
15h or family 16h system does not have an RDRAND resume issue or that the
system will not be placed in suspend, the "rdrand=force" kernel parameter
can be used to stop the clearing of the RDRAND CPUID bit.

Additionally, update the suspend and resume path to save and restore the
MSR C001_1004 value to ensure that the RDRAND CPUID setting remains in
place after resuming from suspend.

Note, that clearing the RDRAND CPUID bit does not prevent a processor
that normally supports the RDRAND instruction from executing it. So any
code that determined the support based on family and model won't #UD.

Andrew Cooper 83b584d9c6 x86/paravirt: Drop {read,write}_cr8() hooks
There is a lot of infrastructure for functionality which is used
exclusively in __{save,restore}_processor_state() on the suspend/resume
path.

cr8 is an alias of APIC_TASKPRI, and APIC_TASKPRI is saved/restored by
lapic_{suspend,resume}().  Saving and restoring cr8 independently of the
rest of the Local APIC state isn't a clever thing to be doing.

Delete the suspend/resume cr8 handling, which shrinks the size of struct
saved_context, and allows for the removal of both PVOPS.

Jiri Kosina ec527c3180 x86/power: Fix 'nosmt' vs hibernation triple fault during resume
As explained in

	0cc3cd2165 ("cpu/hotplug: Boot HT siblings at least once")

we always, no matter what, have to bring up x86 HT siblings during boot at
least once in order to avoid first MCE bringing the system to its knees.

That means that whenever 'nosmt' is supplied on the kernel command-line,
all the HT siblings are as a result sitting in mwait or cpudile after
going through the online-offline cycle at least once.

This causes a serious issue though when a kernel, which saw 'nosmt' on its
commandline, is going to perform resume from hibernation: if the resume
from the hibernated image is successful, cr3 is flipped in order to point
to the address space of the kernel that is being resumed, which in turn
means that all the HT siblings are all of a sudden mwaiting on address
which is no longer valid.

That results in triple fault shortly after cr3 is switched, and machine
reboots.

Fix this by always waking up all the SMT siblings before initiating the
'restore from hibernation' process; this guarantees that all the HT
siblings will be properly carried over to the resumed kernel waiting in
resume_play_dead(), and acted upon accordingly afterwards, based on the
target kernel configuration.

Symmetricaly, the resumed kernel has to push the SMT siblings to mwait
again in case it has SMT disabled; this means it has to online all
the siblings when resuming (so that they come out of hlt) and offline
them again to let them reach mwait.

Eric Biggers 877b5691f2 crypto: shash - remove shash_desc::flags
The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything.
The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP.
However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op.

With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly
pass MAY_SLEEP.  These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm
actually started sleeping.  For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions,
which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP
from the ahash API to the shash API.  However, the shash functions are
called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep.

Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while
hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function
crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks
and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk.  It's
not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary
to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all.

Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the
crypto_shash_*() functions can be called from any context.

Zhimin Gu 6bae499a0a x86-32, hibernate: Switch to relocated restore code during resume on 32bit system
On 64bit system, code should be executed in a safe page
during page restoring, as the page where instruction is
running during resume might be scribbled and causes issues.

Although on 32 bit, we only suspend resuming by same kernel
that did the suspend, we'd like to remove that restriction
in the future.

Porting corresponding code from
64bit system: Allocate a safe page, and copy the restore
code to it, then jump to the safe page to run the code.

Zhimin Gu 32aa276437 x86-32, hibernate: Switch to original page table after resumed
After all the pages are restored to previous address, the page
table switches back to current swapper_pg_dir. However the
swapper_pg_dir currently in used might not be consistent with
previous page table, which might cause issue after resume.

Fix this issue by switching to original page table after resume,
and the address of the original page table is saved in the hibernation
image header.

Move the manipulation of restore_cr3 into common code blocks.

Zhimin Gu 8e5b2a3c5a x86-32/asm/power: Create stack frames in hibernate_asm_32.S
swsusp_arch_suspend() is callable non-leaf function which doesn't
honor CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER, which can result in bad stack traces.
Also it's not annotated as ELF callable function which can confuse tooling.

Create a stack frame for it when CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER is enabled and
give it proper ELF function annotation.

Also in this patch introduces the restore_registers() symbol and
gives it ELF function annotation, thus to prepare for later register
restore.

Analogous changes were made for 64bit before in commit ef0f3ed5a4
(x86/asm/power: Create stack frames in hibernate_asm_64.S) and
commit 4ce827b4cc (x86/power/64: Fix hibernation return address
corruption).

Kees Cook c2cd0b08e1 x86/power/hibernate_64: Remove VLA usage
In the quest to remove all stack VLA usage from the kernel [1], this
removes the discouraged use of AHASH_REQUEST_ON_STACK by switching to
shash directly and allocating the descriptor in heap memory (which should
be fine: the tfm has already been allocated there too).

Joerg Roedel 05189820da x86/power/64: Fix page-table setup for temporary text mapping
On a system with 4-level page-tables there is no p4d, so the pud in the pgd
should be mapped. The old code before commit fb43d6cb91 already did that.

The change from above commit causes an invalid page-table which causes
undefined behavior. In one report it caused triple faults.

Fix it by changing the p4d back to pud.

Dave Hansen fb43d6cb91 x86/mm: Do not auto-massage page protections
A PTE is constructed from a physical address and a pgprotval_t.
__PAGE_KERNEL, for instance, is a pgprot_t and must be converted
into a pgprotval_t before it can be used to create a PTE.  This is
done implicitly within functions like pfn_pte() by massage_pgprot().

However, this makes it very challenging to set bits (and keep them
set) if your bit is being filtered out by massage_pgprot().

This moves the bit filtering out of pfn_pte() and friends.  For
users of PAGE_KERNEL*, filtering will be done automatically inside
those macros but for users of __PAGE_KERNEL*, they need to do their
own filtering now.

Note that we also just move pfn_pte/pmd/pud() over to check_pgprot()
instead of massage_pgprot().  This way, we still *look* for
unsupported bits and properly warn about them if we find them.  This
might happen if an unfiltered __PAGE_KERNEL* value was passed in,
for instance.

Pull x86 syscall entry code changes for PTI from Ingo Molnar:
 "The main changes here are Andy Lutomirski's changes to switch the

  besides helping fix KASLR leaks (the pending Page Table Isolation
  (PTI) work), also robustifies the x86 entry code"
