Thomas Renninger d18960494f ACPI, intel_idle: Cleanup idle= internal variables
Having four variables for the same thing:
  idle_halt, idle_nomwait, force_mwait and boot_option_idle_overrides
is rather confusing and unnecessary complex.

if idle= boot param is passed, only set up one variable:
boot_option_idle_overrides

Introduces following functional changes/fixes:
  - intel_idle driver does not register if any idle=xy
    boot param is passed.
  - processor_idle.c will also not register a cpuidle driver
    and get active if idle=halt is passed.
    Before a cpuidle driver with one (C1, halt) state got registered
    Now the default_idle function will be used which finally uses
    the same idle call to enter sleep state (safe_halt()), but
    without registering a whole cpuidle driver.

That means idle= param will always avoid cpuidle drivers to register
with one exception (same behavior as before):
idle=nomwait
may still register acpi_idle cpuidle driver, but C1 will not use
mwait, but hlt. This can be a workaround for IO based deeper sleep
states where C1 mwait causes problems.

printk("%pR",...)
is for formatting struct resource only.
But the list built up in drivers/acpi/osl.c uses it's own struct:
struct acpi_res_list {}

Without this patch you can see wrongly formatted resources (SMRG is of IO type):

Rafael J. Wysocki da8aeb92d4 ACPI / Battery: Update information on info notification and resume
A notification event 0x81 from an ACPI battery device requires us to
re-read the battery information structure.  Follow this requirement
and remove and re-create the battery's attibutes in sysfs so that
they reflect the reporting units used by the battery at the moment
(those units may actually change sometimes at run time, which happens
on some Thinkpads).

The approach used in this patch was suggested by Matthew Garrett.

Rafael J. Wysocki d57d09a480 ACPI: Drop device flag wake_capable
The wake_capable ACPI device flag is not necessary, because it is
only used in scan.c for recording the information that _PRW is
present for the given device.  That information is only used by
acpi_add_single_object() to decide whether or not to call
acpi_bus_get_wakeup_device_flags(), so the flag may be dropped
if the _PRW check is moved to acpi_bus_get_wakeup_device_flags().
Moreover, acpi_bus_get_wakeup_device_flags() always returns 0,
so it really should be void.

Before evaluating _PRW for devices that are reported as inactive or
not present by their _STA control methods we should check if those
methods are actually present (otherwise the evaulation of _PRW will
obviously fail and a scary message will be printed unnecessarily).

It certainly is not a good idea to execute _ON or _OFF and _STA
for the same power resource at the same time which may happen in
some circumstances in theory.  To prevent that from happening,
read the power state of each power resource under its mutex, as
that will prevent the state from being changed at the same time.

Rafael J. Wysocki 53eac700b0 ACPI / PM: Drop acpi_power_nocheck
Since acpi_bus_set_power() should not use __acpi_bus_get_power() to
update the device's device->power.state field before changing its
power state (this may cause device->power.state to be inconsistent
with the device power resources' reference counters), remove this
call from it.  In consequence, the acpi_power_nocheck variable is not
necessary any more, so it can be dropped along with the DMI table
used for setting that variable for HP Pavilion 05.

dropped.  Moreover, it should be dropped, because it modifies

Use the new function acpi_bus_update_power() for manipulating power
resources used by ACPI fan devices, which allows them to be put into
the right state during initialization and resume.  Consequently,
remove the flags.force_power_state field from struct acpi_device,
which is not necessary any more.

Rafael J. Wysocki bf325f9538 ACPI / PM: Register power resource devices as soon as they are needed
Depending on the organization of the ACPI namespace, power resource
device objects may generally be scanned after the "regular" device
objects that they are referred from through _PRn.  This, in turn, may
cause acpi_bus_get_power_flags() to attempt to access them through
acpi_bus_init_power() before they are registered (and initialized by
acpi_power_driver).  [This is not a theoretical issue, it actually
happens for one PnP device on my testbed HP nx6325.]

To fix this problem, make acpi_bus_get_power_flags() attempt to
register power resource devices as soon as they have been found in
the _PRn output for any other devices.

Rafael J. Wysocki 97d9a9e9f5 ACPI / PM: Register acpi_power_driver early
The ACPI device driver used for handling power resources,
acpi_power_driver, creates a struct acpi_power_resource object for
each ACPI device representing a power resource.  These objects are
then used when setting and reading the power states of devices using
the corresponding power resources.  Unfortunately, acpi_power_driver
is registered after acpi_scan_init() that may add devices using the
power resources before acpi_power_driver has a chance to create
struct acpi_power_resource objects for them (specifically, the power
resources may be referred to during the scanning process through
acpi_bus_get_power() before they have been initialized).

As the first step towards fixing this issue, move the registration
of acpi_power_driver into acpi_scan_init() so that power resource
devices can be initialized by it as soon as they have been found in
the namespace.

Rafael J. Wysocki 25eed40720 ACPI / PM: Add function for updating device power state consistently
Add function acpi_bus_update_power() for reading the actual power
state of an ACPI device and updating its device->power.state field
in such a way that its power resources' reference counters will
remain consistent with that field.

For this purpose introduce __acpi_bus_set_power() setting the
power state of an ACPI device without updating its
device->power.state field and make acpi_bus_set_power() and
acpi_bus_update_power() use it (acpi_bus_set_power() retains the
current behavior for now).

It sometimes is necessary to get the power state of an ACPI device
without updating its device->power.state field, for example to
avoid inconsistencies between device->power.state and the reference
counters of the device's power resources.  For this purpose introduce
__acpi_bus_get_power() that will return the given device's power
state via a pointer (instead of modifying device->power.state)
and make acpi_bus_get_power() use it.

ACPI device power resources should be reference counted during
device initialization, so that their reference counters are always
up to date.  It is convenient to do that with the help of a function
that will reference count and possibly turn on power resources in
a given list, so introduce that function, acpi_power_on_list().
For symmetry, introduce acpi_power_off_list() for performing the
reverse operation and use the both of them to simplify
acpi_power_transition().

Lin Ming bba63a296f ACPICA: Implicit notify support
This feature provides an automatic device notification for wake devices
when a wakeup GPE occurs and there is no corresponding GPE method or
handler. Rather than ignoring such a GPE, an implicit AML Notify
operation is performed on the parent device object.
This feature is not part of the ACPI specification and is provided for
Windows compatibility only.

Huang Ying 81e88fdc43 ACPI, APEI, Generic Hardware Error Source POLL/IRQ/NMI notification type support
Generic Hardware Error Source provides a way to report platform
hardware errors (such as that from chipset). It works in so called
"Firmware First" mode, that is, hardware errors are reported to
firmware firstly, then reported to Linux by firmware. This way, some
non-standard hardware error registers or non-standard hardware link
can be checked by firmware to produce more valuable hardware error
information for Linux.

This patch adds POLL/IRQ/NMI notification types support.

Because the memory area used to transfer hardware error information
from BIOS to Linux can be determined only in NMI, IRQ or timer
handler, but general ioremap can not be used in atomic context, so a
special version of atomic ioremap is implemented for that.

Known issue:

- Error information can not be printed for recoverable errors notified
  via NMI, because printk is not NMI-safe. Will fix this via delay
  printing to IRQ context via irq_work or make printk NMI-safe.

Zhang Rui 6d855fcdd2 ACPI: delete CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER and power procfs I/F in 2.6.39
sysfs I/F for ACPI power devices, including AC and Battery,
has been working in upstream kenrel since 2.6.24, Sep 2007.
In 2.6.37, we made the sysfs I/F always built in and this option
disabled by default.
Now, we plan to remove this option and the ACPI power procfs
interface in 2.6.39.

First, update the feature-removal-schedule to announce this change.
Second, add runtime warnings in ACPI AC/Battery/SBS driver, so that
users will notice this change even if "make oldconfig" is used.

Zhang Rui 4464ed3b05 ACPI: update CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS description
Update CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS description because the processor,
video and thermal zone procfs I/F have been removed.

Some ACPI drivers, e.g. button, have their procfs I/F always built in,
because we don't have sysfs I/F replacement at the moment.
But once we finish developing the sysfs I/F for these driver,
we need CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS to enabled/disable the corresponding procfs I/F.

So just updating the description rather than removing this option,
although there is no procfs I/F depends on it for now.

Zhao Yakui 5a344a5050 ACPI: Reevaluate whether the T-state is supported or not after cpu is online/offline
After one CPU is offlined, it is unnecessary to switch T-state for it.
So it will be better that the throttling is disabled after the cpu
is offline.
At the same time after one cpu is online, we should check whether
the T-state is supported and then set the corresponding T-state
flag.

Zhao Yakui daef1f35ea ACPI: Check the returned value of set_cpus_allowed_ptr before T-state operation
Now before it executes the T-state operation on one CPU, it will try to
migrate to the target CPU. Especially this is required on the system that
uses the MSR_IA32_THERMAL_CONTROL register to switch T-state.
But unfortunately it doesn't check whether the migration is successful or not.
In such case we will get/set the incorrect T-state on the offline CPU as
it fails in the migration to the offline CPU.

Rafael J. Wysocki f2b56bc808 ACPI / PM: Use device wakeup flags for handling ACPI wakeup devices
There are ACPI devices (buttons and the laptop lid) that can wake up
the system from sleep states and have no "physical" companion
devices.  The ACPI subsystem uses two flags, wakeup.state.enabled and
wakeup.flags.always_enabled, for handling those devices, but they
are not accessible through the standard device wakeup infrastructure.
User space can only control them via the /proc/acpi/wakeup interface
that is not really convenient (e.g. the way in which devices are
enabled to wake up the system is not portable between different
systems, because it requires one to know the devices' "names" used in
the system's ACPI tables).

To address this problem, use standard device wakeup flags instead of
the special ACPI flags for handling those devices.  In particular,
use device_set_wakeup_capable() to mark the ACPI wakeup devices
during initialization and use device_set_wakeup_enable() to allow
or disallow them to wake up the system from sleep states.  Rework
the /proc/acpi/wakeup interface to take these changes into account.

Rafael J. Wysocki b014f4f1aa ACPI / PM: Do not enable multiple devices to wake up simultaneously
If a device is enabled to wake up the system from sleep states via
/proc/acpi/wakeup and there are other devices associated with the
same wakeup GPE, all of these devices are automatically enabled to
wake up the system.  This isn't correct, because the fact the GPE is
shared need not imply that wakeup power has to be enabled for all the
devices at the same time (i.e. it is possible that one device will
have its wakeup power enabled and it will wake up the system from a
sleep state if the shared wakeup GPE is enabled, while another device
having its wakeup power disabled will not wake up the system even
though the GPE is enabled).  Rework acpi_system_write_wakeup_device()
so that it only enables wakeup for one device at a time.

Rafael J. Wysocki 9cd031441a ACPI / ACPICA: Fix global lock acquisition
There are two problems with the ACPICA's current implementation of
the global lock acquisition.  First, acpi_ev_global_lock_handler(),
which in fact is an interface to the outside of the kernel, doesn't
validate its input, so it only works correctly if the other side
(i.e. the ACPI firmware) is fully specification-compliant (as far
as the global lock is concerned).  Unfortunately, that's known not
to be the case on some systems (i.e. we get spurious global lock
signaling interrupts without the pending flag set on some systems).
Second, acpi_ev_global_lock_handler() attempts to acquire the global
lock on behalf of a thread waiting for it without checking if there
actually is such a thread.  Both of these shortcomings need to be
addressed to prevent all possible race conditions from happening.

Rework acpi_ev_global_lock_handler() so that it doesn't try to
acquire the global lock and make it signal the availability of the
global lock to the waiting thread instead.  Make sure that the
availability of the global lock can only be signaled when there
is a thread waiting for it and that it can't be signaled more than
once in a row (to keep acpi_gbl_global_lock_semaphore in balance).

Len Brown 6d5bbf00d2 ACPI: Use ioremap_cache()
Although the temporary boot-time ACPI table mappings
were set up with CPU caching enabled, the permanent table
mappings and AML run-time region memory accesses were
set up with ioremap(), which on x86 is a synonym for
ioremap_nocache().

Changing this to ioremap_cache() improves performance as
seen when accessing the tables via acpidump,
or /sys/firmware/acpi/tables.  It should also improve
AML run-time performance.

No change on ia64.

Recent Intel new system have different order in MADT, aka will list all thread0
at first, then all thread1.
But SRAT table still old order, it will list cpus in one socket all together.

If the user have compiled limited NR_CPUS or boot with nr_cpus=, could have missed
to put some cpus apic id to node mapping into apicid_to_node[].

Rafael J. Wysocki b581a7f9c3 ACPI: Execute _PRW for devices reported as inactive or not present
If a device is reported as inactive or not present by its _STA
control method, acpi_bus_check_add() skips it without evaluating its
_PRW method.  This leads to a problem when the device's _PRW method
points to a GPE, because in that case the GPE may be enabled by
ACPICA during the subsequent acpi_update_gpes() call which, in
turn, may cause a GPE storm to appear.

To avoid this issue, make acpi_bus_check_add() evaluate _PRW for
inactive or not present devices and register the wakeup GPE
information returned by them, so that acpi_update_gpes() does not
enable their GPEs unnecessarily.

Christoph Lameter 4a6f4fe837 drivers: Replace __get_cpu_var with __this_cpu_read if not used for an address.
__get_cpu_var() can be replaced with this_cpu_read and will then use a single
read instruction with implied address calculation to access the correct per cpu
instance.

However, the address of a per cpu variable passed to __this_cpu_read() cannot be
determed (since its an implied address conversion through segment prefixes).
Therefore apply this only to uses of __get_cpu_var where the addres of the
variable is not used.

	- Move one instance of this_cpu_inc_return to a later patch
	  so that this one can go in without percpu infrastructrure
	  changes.

Zhao Yakui e92b297cc7 IPMI/ACPI: Add the IPMI opregion driver to enable ACPI to access BMC controller
ACPI 4.0 spec adds the ACPI IPMI opregion, which means that the ACPI AML
code can also communicate with the BMC controller. This is to install
the ACPI IPMI opregion and enable the ACPI to access the BMC controller
through the IPMI message.

     It will create IPMI user interface for every IPMI device detected
in ACPI namespace and install the corresponding IPMI opregion space handler.
Then it can enable ACPI to access the BMC controller through the IPMI
message.

The following describes how to process the IPMI request in IPMI space handler:
    1. format the IPMI message based on the request in AML code.
    IPMI system address. Now the address type is SYSTEM_INTERFACE_ADDR_TYPE
    IPMI net function & command
    IPMI message payload
    2. send the IPMI message by using the function of ipmi_request_settime
    3. wait for the completion of IPMI message. It can be done in different
routes: One is in handled in IPMI user recv callback function. Another is
handled in timeout function.
    4. format the IPMI response and return it to ACPI AML code.

At the same time it also addes the module dependency. The ACPI IPMI opregion
will depend on the IPMI subsystem.

Huang Ying f59c55d04b ACPI, APEI, Add APEI generic error status printing support
In APEI, Hardware error information reported by firmware to Linux
kernel is in the data structure of APEI generic error status (struct
acpi_hes_generic_status).  While now printk is used by Linux kernel to
report hardware error information to user space.

So, this patch adds printing support for the data structure, so that
the corresponding hardware error information can be reported to user
space via printk.

PCIe AER information printing is not implemented yet.  Will refactor the
original PCIe AER information printing code to avoid code duplicating.

Now multiple _OSI strings can be added or removed, for example

acpi_osi=Linux acpi_osi=FreeBSD acpi_osi="!Windows 2006"

Lin Ming d90aa92c0c acpi: fix _OSI string setup regression
commit b0ed7a91(ACPICA/ACPI: Add new host interfaces for _OSI suppor)
introduced a regression that _OSI string setup fails.

There are 2 paths to setup _OSI string.

DMI:
acpi_dmi_osi_linux -> set_osi_linux -> acpi_osi_setup -> copy _OSI
string to osi_setup_string

Boot command line:
acpi_osi_setup -> copy _OSI string to osi_setup_string

Later, acpi_osi_setup_late will be called to handle osi_setup_string.
If _OSI string is "Linux" or "!Linux", then the call path is,

acpi_osi_setup_late -> acpi_cmdline_osi_linux -> set_osi_linux ->
acpi_osi_setup -> copy _OSI string to osi_setup_string

This actually never installs _OSI string(acpi_install_interface not
called), but just copy the _OSI string to osi_setup_string.

This patch fixes the regression.

Zhang Rui 3138b32d5e ACPI battery: update status upon sysfs query
Sometimes the Battery driver doesn't get notifications when it's
plugged/unplugged. And this results in the incorrect Battery

Commit 3e384ee6c6 (ACPI / PM: Fix
reference counting of power resources) introduced a regression by
causing fan power resources to be turned on and reference counted
unnecessarily during resume, so on some boxes fans are always on
after resume.

Fix the problem by checking if the current device state is different
from the new state before reference counting and turning on power
resources in acpi_power_transition().

Don Zickus 072b198a4a x86, nmi_watchdog: Remove all stub function calls from old nmi_watchdog
Now that the bulk of the old nmi_watchdog is gone, remove all
the stub variables and hooks associated with it.

This touches lots of files mainly because of how the io_apic
nmi_watchdog was implemented.  Now that the io_apic nmi_watchdog
is forever gone, remove all its fingers.

Most of this code was not being exercised by virtue of
nmi_watchdog != NMI_IO_APIC, so there shouldn't be anything to
risky here.

because dynamic SSDT tables may be loaded in _PDC,
before installing the ACPI table handler.
As a result, the sysfs I/F of these dynamic tables are

/sys/firmware/acpi/tables/dynamic, which is not true.

Invoke acpi_sysfs_init() before acpi_early_processor_set_pdc(),
so that the table handler is installed before any dynamic tables loaded.

Myron Stowe 4a3cba5e72 ACPI: Page based coalescing of I/O remappings optimization
This patch optimizes ACPI MMIO remappings by keeping track of the
remappings on a PAGE_SIZE granularity.

When an ioremap() occurs, the underlying infrastructure works on a 'page'
based granularity.  As such, an ioremap() request for 1 byte for example,
will end up mapping in an entire (PAGE_SIZE) page.  Huang Ying took
advantage of this in commit 15651291a2 by
checking if subsequent ioremap() requests reside within any of the list's
existing remappings still in place, and if so, incrementing a reference
count on the existing mapping as opposed to performing another ioremap().

Myron Stowe d362edaf53 ACPI: Pre-map 'system event' related register blocks
During ACPI initialization, pre-map fixed hardware registers that are
accessed during ACPI's 'system event' related IRQ handing.

ACPI's 'system event' handing accesses specific fixed hardware
registers; namely PM1a event, PM1b event, GPE0, and GPE1 register
blocks which are declared within the FADT.  If these registers are
backed by MMIO, as opposed to I/O port space, accessing them within
interrupt context will cause a panic as acpi_os_read_memory()
depends on ioremap() in such cases - BZ 18012.

By utilizing the functionality provided in the previous two patches -
ACPI: Maintain a list of ACPI memory mapped I/O remappings, and, ACPI:
Add interfaces for ioremapping/iounmapping ACPI registers - accesses
to ACPI MMIO areas will now be safe from within interrupt contexts (IRQ
and/or NMI) provided the area was pre-mapped.  This solves BZ 18012.

Myron Stowe 620242ae8c ACPI: Maintain a list of ACPI memory mapped I/O remappings
For memory mapped I/O (MMIO) remappings, add a list to maintain the
remappings and augment the corresponding mapping and unmapping interface
routines (acpi_os_map_memory() and acpi_os_unmap_memory()) to
dynamically add to, and delete from, the list.

The current ACPI I/O accessing methods - acpi_read() and acpi_write() -
end up calling ioremap() when accessing MMIO.  This prevents use of these
methods within interrupt context (IRQ and/or NMI), since ioremap() may
block to allocate memory.  Maintaining a list of MMIO remappings enables
accesses to such areas from within interrupt context provided they have
been pre-mapped.

Rafael J. Wysocki a1b4bd694a ACPI / Battery: Return -ENODEV for unknown values in get_property()
The function acpi_battery_get_property() is called by the
power supply framework's function power_supply_show_property()
implementing the sysfs interface for power supply devices as the
ACPI battery driver's ->get_property() callback.  Thus it is supposed
to return error code if the value of the given property is unknown.
Unfortunately, however, it returns 0 in those cases and puts a
wrong (negative) value into the intval field of the
union power_supply_propval object provided by
power_supply_show_property().  In consequence, wrong negative
values are read by user space from the battery's sysfs files.

Fix this by making acpi_battery_get_property() return -ENODEV
for properties with unknown values (-ENODEV is returned, because
power_supply_uevent() returns with error for any other error code
returned by power_supply_show_property()).

Rafael J. Wysocki 3e384ee6c6 ACPI / PM: Fix reference counting of power resources
The reference counting of ACPI power resources is currently broken
for a few reasons.  First, instead of using a simple reference
counter per power resource it uses a list of objects representing
refereces to the given power resource from devices.  This leads to
the second breakage, because it prevents power resources from
being referenced more than once by one device, which is necessary
if the device is configured to signal wakeup.  Namely, when putting
the device into a low power state we first call
acpi_enable_wakeup_device_power() that should reference count power
resources needed for signaling wakeup and then we call
acpi_power_transition() to power off the device.  The latter call
drops references to the device's power resources, possibly including
the ones added by acpi_enable_wakeup_device_power(), so the device
can't signal wakeup as a result.  Apart from this, the locking
in acpi_power_on() and acpi_power_off_device() doesn't prevent
all possible races from happening, which may be problematic for
runtime PM and asynchronous suspend and resume.

Fix the problem by using a counter for power resources reference
counting and putting the evaluation of ACPI _ON and _OFF methods
under the power resource mutex.

Module level code is the executable AML code outside of control method,
for example, below AML code creates a node \_SB.PCI0.GFX0.DD02.CUBL

        If (\_OSI ("Windows 2006"))
        {
            Scope (\_SB.PCI0.GFX0.DD02)
            {
                Name (CUBL, Ones)
                ...
            }
        }

Scope() op does not actually create a new object, it refers to an
existing object(\_SB.PCI0.GFX0.DD02 in above example). However, for
Scope(), we want to indeed open a new scope, so the child nodes(CUBL in
above example) can be created correctly under it.

Zhang Rui 557d58687d ACPI battery: support percentage battery remaining capacity
According to the ACPI spec, some kinds of primary battery can
report percentage battery remaining capacity directly to OS.

In this case, it reports the LastFullChargedCapacity == 100,
BatteryPresentRate = 0xFFFFFFFF, and BatteryRemaingCapacity a
percentage value, which actually means RemainingBatteryPercentage.

Now we found some battery follows this rule even if it's a rechargeable.

Thomas Renninger 7a18e96dcb ACPI: Make Embedded Controller command timeout delay configurable
Here and then there show up machines which need higher timeout values.
Finding this on affected machines can be cumbersome, because
ACPI_EC_DELAY is a compile option -> make it configurable via boot param.

This can even be provided writable at runtime via:
/sys/modules/acpi/parameters/ec_delay

Known machines where this helps:
Some HP machines where for whatever reasons specific EC accesses take
very long at resume from S3 (in _WAK function).
The AE_TIME error is passed upwards and the ACPI interpreter will
not execute the rest of the _WAK function which results in not properly
initialized devices/variables with different side-effects.

Afaik, on some MSI machines this helped as well.

If this param is needed there probably are underlying problems like:
  - EC firmware bug
  - A kernel EC driver bug
  - An ACPI interpreter behavior (e.g. timings when specific
    EC accesses happen and how) which the EC does not like
  - ...
which should get evaluated further, but often are nasty or
impossible to fix from OS side.

find_dock and find_bay are only called by dock_init which lives in

Zhang Rui d5c6887c7f ACPI processor: make /proc/acpi/processor/*/throttle depends on CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS
As a feature that would only be used when system is overheating,
the processor t-state control should not be exported to user space.
Make /proc/acpi/processor/*/throttle depends on CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS,

Len Brown 0f3f164d97 acpi_idle: delete bogus data from cpuidle_state.power_usage
The mW data in this field comes from AML _CST,
which was typed in by a BIOS writer, and is thus
considered unreliable.

Linux does not use it for making any decisions.
We do display it in sysfs where somebody might
read it and assume it is meaningful, so delete it.

Rafael J. Wysocki 761afb869f ACPI / PM: Fix problems with acpi_pm_device_sleep_state()
There is a number of problems with acpi_pm_device_sleep_state() now.
First, if _S0W is not defined, it prevents devices from being put
into D3 by PCI runtime PM, which shouldn't happen.  Second, it
shouldn't use adev->wakeup.state.enabled, because if it's set, it
only means that either the device is permanently enabled to wake up
the system, or that it has been enabled to do that through
/proc/acpi/wakeup.  Finally, it should be compiled if CONFIG_PM_SLEEP
is not set, so that PCI runtime PM works correctly in that case.
Fix these problems.

Arnd Bergmann 6038f373a3 llseek: automatically add .llseek fop
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.

The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.

New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time.  Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.

The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.

Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.

The brightness control hotkey don't work with Vista compatibility
because the MSI GX723 includes an infinite while loop in DSDT when
brightness control hotkey pressed.

The MSI GX723 uses Nvidia video.  Perhaps the loop is specific
to the Nvidia Vista driver...

This patch should be reverted once nouveau grows support
to call the ACPI NVIF method.

This is a sysfs change, but userspace must already be able to handle it.

     * This generic ID isn't useful for driver binding, but it provides
     * the useful property that "every acpi_device has an ID."
is still half way true:
Best you never touch pnp.ids list directly or make sure it can be empty,
instead use:
char *acpi_device_hid()
which always returns a value ("device" as a dummy if the object
has no hid).

Lin Ming 28eb3fcf87 ACPICA: Make acpi_thread_id no longer configurable, always u64
Change definition of acpi_thread_id to always be a u64. This
simplifies the code, especially any printf output. u64 is
the only common data type for all thread_id types across all
operating systems. We now force the OSL to cast the native
thread_id type to u64 before returning the value to ACPICA
(via acpi_os_get_thread_id).

Lin Ming b0ed7a915a ACPICA/ACPI: Add new host interfaces for _OSI support
Adds install/remove interfaces so that the host can dynamically
alter the global _OSI table. Also adds support for _OSI handlers.
Additional support: new debugger command (osi), and test support in
the acpiexec utility. Adds new file, utilities/utosi.c.
ACPICA bugzilla 836.

The Linux OSL _OSI code is also changed.
acpi_osi_setup can't call acpi_install/remove_interface because ACPICA
is not initialized yet at this early time.
So we just save the osi string in acpi_osi_setup and will handle it
later in a new function acpi_osi_setup_late.

Jin Dongming 1dd6b20e36 ACPI, APEI, HEST Fix the unsuitable usage of platform_data
platform_data in hest_parse_ghes() is used for saving the address of entry
information of erst_tab. When the device is failed to be added, platform_data
will be freed by platform_device_put(). But the value saved in platform_data
should not be freed here. If it is done, it will make system panic.

So I think platform_data should save the address of allocated memory
which saves entry information of erst_tab.

This patch fixed it and I confirmed it on x86_64 next-tree.

After we ioremap() a new region, we call __acpi_try_ioremap() to
see whether another thread has already mapped the same region.
This check clobbers "vaddr",  so compute the return value of

erst_tab->header_length == sizeof(struct acpi_table_einj)

but Yinghai reported that on his machine,

erst_tab->header_length == sizeof(struct acpi_table_einj) -

To make erst table size checking code works on all systems, both
testing are treated as PASS.

Same situation applies to einj_tab->header_length, so corresponding
table size checking is changed in similar way too.

Colin Ian King 573b638158 ACPI: enable repeated PCIEXP wakeup by clearing PCIEXP_WAKE_STS on resume
Section 4.7.3.1.1 (PM1 Status Registers) of version 4.0 of
the ACPI spec concerning PCIEXP_WAKE_STS points out in
in the final note field in table 4-11 that if this bit is
set to 1 and the system is put into a sleeping state then
the system will not automatically wake.

This bit gets set by hardware to indicate that the system
woke up due to a PCI Express wakeup event, so clear it during
acpi_hw_clear_acpi_status() calls to enable subsequent
resumes to work.

Rafael J. Wysocki a210080195 ACPI / ACPICA: Defer enabling of runtime GPEs (v3)
The current ACPI GPEs initialization code has a problem that it
enables some GPEs pointed to by device _PRW methods, generally
intended for signaling wakeup events (system or device wakeup).
These GPEs are then almost immediately disabled by the ACPI namespace
scanning code with the help of acpi_gpe_can_wake(), but it would be
better not to enable them at all until really necessary.

Modify the initialization of GPEs so that the ones that have
associated _Lxx or _Exx methods and are not pointed to by any _PRW
methods will be enabled after the namespace scan is complete.

Rafael J. Wysocki 539986482b PM / ACPI: Blacklist systems known to require acpi_sleep=nonvs
Commit 2a6b69765a (ACPI: Store NVS
state even when entering suspend to RAM) changed the ACPI suspend
to RAM code so that the NVS memory area is always unconditionally
saved during suspend and restored during resume, since some systems
evidently need that for the suspend-resume to work on them.  However,
it turned out that this change broke suspend-resume on a few systems,
so commit 72ad5d77fb (ACPI / Sleep:
Allow the NVS saving to be skipped during suspend to RAM) introduced
the acpi_sleep=nonvs command line switch to allow their users to
work around this issue.  To keep track of the systems that require
this workaround and to make the life of their users slightly easier
blacklist them in acpisleep_dmi_table[].

Rafael J. Wysocki 28eb5f274a PCI: PCIe: Ask BIOS for control of all native services at once
After commit 852972acff (ACPI: Disable
ASPM if the platform won't provide _OSC control for PCIe) control of
the PCIe Capability Structure is unconditionally requested by
acpi_pci_root_add(), which in principle may cause problems to
happen in two ways.  First, the BIOS may refuse to give control of
the PCIe Capability Structure if it is not asked for any of the
_OSC features depending on it at the same time.  Second, the BIOS may
assume that control of the _OSC features depending on the PCIe
Capability Structure will be requested in the future and may behave
incorrectly if that doesn't happen.  For this reason, control of
the PCIe Capability Structure should always be requested along with
control of any other _OSC features that may depend on it (ie. PCIe
native PME, PCIe native hot-plug, PCIe AER).

Rework the PCIe port driver so that (1) it checks which native PCIe
port services can be enabled, according to the BIOS, and (2) it
requests control of all these services simultaneously.  In
particular, this causes pcie_portdrv_probe() to fail if the BIOS
refuses to grant control of the PCIe Capability Structure, which
means that no native PCIe port services can be enabled for the PCIe
Root Complex the given port belongs to.  If that happens, ASPM is
disabled to avoid problems with mishandling it by the part of the
PCIe hierarchy for which control of the PCIe Capability Structure
has not been received.

Make it possible to override this behavior using 'pcie_ports=native'
(use the PCIe native services regardless of the BIOS response to the
control request), or 'pcie_ports=compat' (do not use the PCIe native
services at all).

Accordingly, rework the existing PCIe port service drivers so that
they don't request control of the services directly.

Rafael J. Wysocki 75fb60f26b ACPI/PCI: Negotiate _OSC control bits before requesting them
It is possible that the BIOS will not grant control of all _OSC
features requested via acpi_pci_osc_control_set(), so it is
recommended to negotiate the final set of _OSC features with the
query flag set before calling _OSC to request control of these
features.

To implement it, rework acpi_pci_osc_control_set() so that the caller
can specify the mask of _OSC control bits to negotiate and the mask
of _OSC control bits that are absolutely necessary to it.  Then,
acpi_pci_osc_control_set() will run _OSC queries in a loop until
the mask of _OSC control bits returned by the BIOS is equal to the
mask passed to it.  Also, before running the _OSC request
acpi_pci_osc_control_set() will check if the caller's required
control bits are present in the final mask.

Using this mechanism we will be able to avoid situations in which the
BIOS doesn't grant control of certain _OSC features, because they
depend on some other _OSC features that have not been requested.

Rafael J. Wysocki 2b8fd9186d ACPI/PCI: Do not preserve _OSC control bits returned by a query
There is the assumption in acpi_pci_osc_control_set() that it is
always sufficient to compare the mask of _OSC control bits to be
requested with the result of an _OSC query where all of the known
control bits have been checked.  However, in general, that need not
be the case.  For example, if an _OSC feature A depends on an _OSC
feature B and control of A, B plus another _OSC feature C is
requested simultaneously, the BIOS may return A, B, C, while it would
only return C if A and C were requested without B.

That may result in passing a wrong mask of _OSC control bits to an
_OSC control request, in which case the BIOS may only grant control
of a subset of the requested features.  Moreover, acpi_pci_run_osc()
will return error code if that happens and the caller of
acpi_pci_osc_control_set() will not know that it's been granted
control of some _OSC features.  Consequently, the system will
generally not work as expected.

Apart from this acpi_pci_osc_control_set() always uses the mask
of _OSC control bits returned by the very first invocation of
acpi_pci_query_osc(), but that is done with the second argument
equal to OSC_PCI_SEGMENT_GROUPS_SUPPORT which generally happens
to affect the returned _OSC control bits.

For these reasons, make acpi_pci_osc_control_set() always check if
control of the requested _OSC features will be granted before making
the final control request.  As a result, the osc_control_qry and
osc_queried members of struct acpi_pci_root are not necessary any
more, so drop them and remove the remaining code referring to them.

1. we already have the sysfs I/F /sysclass/backlight/ as the replacement
of /proc/acpi/video/*/*/brightness.
2. the other procfs I/F is not useful for userspace.

With acpi.aml_debug_output set, we can get AML debug object output

we can debug AML code problems without rebuilding the kernel.

Huang Ying 2ff729d506 ACPI, APEI, ERST debug support
This patch adds debugging/testing support to ERST. A misc device is
implemented to export raw ERST read/write/clear etc operations to user
space. With this patch, we can add ERST testing support to
linuxfirmwarekit ISO (linuxfirmwarekit.org) to verify the kernel
support and the firmware implementation.

Thomas Gleixner 0a7992c908 acpi: fix bogus preemption logic
The ACPI_PREEMPTION_POINT() logic was introduced in commit 8bd108d
(ACPICA: add preemption point after each opcode parse).  The follow up
commits abe1dfab6, 138d15692, c084ca70 tried to fix the preemption logic
back and forth, but nobody noticed that the usage of
in_atomic_preempt_off() in that context is wrong.

The check which guards the call of cond_resched() is:

    if (!in_atomic_preempt_off() && !irqs_disabled())

in_atomic_preempt_off() is not intended for general use as the comment
above the macro definition clearly says:

 * Check whether we were atomic before we did preempt_disable():
 * (used by the scheduler, *after* releasing the kernel lock)

On a CONFIG_PREEMPT=n kernel the usage of in_atomic_preempt_off() works by
accident, but with CONFIG_PREEMPT=y it's just broken.

The whole purpose of the ACPI_PREEMPTION_POINT() is to reduce the latency
on a CONFIG_PREEMPT=n kernel, so make ACPI_PREEMPTION_POINT() depend on
CONFIG_PREEMPT=n and remove the in_atomic_preempt_off() check.

Rafael J. Wysocki 28f4f8a9de ACPI / ACPICA: Fix reference counting problems with GPE handlers
If a handler is installed for a GPE associated with an AML method and
such that it cannot wake up the system from sleep states, the GPE
remains enabled after the handler has been installed, although it
should be disabled in that case to avoid spurious execution of the
handler.

Fix this issue by making acpi_install_gpe_handler() disable GPEs
that were previously associated with AML methods and cannot wake up
the system from sleep states.

Analogously, make acpi_remove_gpe_handler() enable the GPEs that
are associated with AML methods after their handlers have been
removed and cannot wake up the system from sleep states.  In addition
to that, fix a code ordering issue in acpi_remove_gpe_handler() that
renders the locking ineffective (ACPI_MTX_EVENTS is released
temporarily in the middle of the routine to wait for the completion
of events already in progress).

For this purpose introduce acpi_raw_disable_gpe() and
acpi_raw_enable_gpe() to be called with acpi_gbl_gpe_lock held
and rework acpi_disable_gpe() and acpi_enable_gpe(), respectively, to
use them.  Also rework acpi_gpe_can_wake() to use
acpi_raw_disable_gpe() instead of calling acpi_disable_gpe() after
releasing the lock to avoid the possible theoretical race with
acpi_install_gpe_handler().

Thomas Renninger 1195a09816 ACPI: Provide /sys/kernel/debug/ec/...
This patch provides the same information through debugfs, which previously was
provided through /proc/acpi/embedded_controller/*/info

This is the gpe the EC is connected to and whether the global lock
gets used.
The io ports used are added to /proc/ioports in another patch.
Beside the fact that /proc/acpi is deprecated for quite some time,
this info is not needed for applications and thus can be moved
to debugfs instead of a public interface like /sys.

Michal Schmidt e8c534ec06 x86: Fix keeping track of AMD C1E
Accomodate the original C1E-aware idle routine to the different times
during boot when the BIOS enables C1E. While at it, remove the synthetic
CPUID flag in favor of a single global setting which denotes C1E status

Matthew Garrett 852972acff ACPI: Disable ASPM if the platform won't provide _OSC control for PCIe
The PCI SIG documentation for the _OSC OS/firmware handshaking interface
states:

"If the _OSC control method is absent from the scope of a host bridge
device, then the operating system must not enable or attempt to use any
features defined in this section for the hierarchy originated by the host
bridge."

The obvious interpretation of this is that the OS should not attempt to use
PCIe hotplug, PME or AER - however, the specification also notes that an
_OSC method is *required* for PCIe hierarchies, and experimental validation
with An Alternative OS indicates that it doesn't use any PCIe functionality
if the _OSC method is missing. That arguably means we shouldn't be using
MSI or extended config space, but right now our problems seem to be limited
to vendors being surprised when ASPM gets enabled on machines when other
OSs refuse to do so. So, for now, let's just disable ASPM if the _OSC
method doesn't exist or refuses to hand over PCIe capability control.

Zhao Yakui 108029ff84 ACPI: Add the check of ADR flag in course of finding ACPI handle for PCI device
The _ADR object is used to provide OSPM with the address of one device on its
parent bus. In course of finding ACPI handle for the corresponding PCI device,
we will firstly evaluate the _ADR object and then compare the two addresses to
see whether it is the target ACPI device. But for one PCI device(0000:00:00.0)
under the PCI root bridge, the corresponding address will be constructed as
zero.In such case maybe the ACPI device without _ADR object will be misdetected
and then be used to create the relationship between PCI device and ACPI device.

Commit 2a6b69765a
(ACPI: Store NVS state even when entering suspend to RAM) caused the
ACPI suspend code save the NVS area during suspend and restore it
during resume unconditionally, although it is known that some systems
need to use acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs for hibernation to work.  To allow
the affected systems to avoid saving and restoring the NVS area
during suspend to RAM and resume, introduce kernel command line
option acpi_sleep=nonvs and make acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs work as its
alias temporarily (add acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs to the feature removal
file).

Len Brown d3e7e99f2f ACPI: create "processor.bm_check_disable" boot param
processor.bm_check_disable=1" prevents Linux from checking BM_STS
before entering C3-type cpu power states.

This may be useful for a system running acpi_idle
where the BIOS exports FADT C-states, _CST IO C-states,
or _CST FFH C-states with the BM_STS bit set;
while configuring the chipset to set BM_STS
more frequently than perhaps is optimal.

Note that such systems may have been developed
using a tickful OS that would quickly clear BM_STS,
rather than a tickless OS that may go for some time
between checking and clearing BM_STS.

Note also that an alternative for newer systems
is to use the intel_idle driver, which always
ignores BM_STS, relying Linux device drivers
to register constraints explicitly via PM_QOS.

It turns out that there is a bit in the _CST for Intel FFH C3
that tells the OS if we should be checking BM_STS or not.

Linux has been unconditionally checking BM_STS.

it can retard or completely prevent entry into

Rafael J. Wysocki 9874647ba1 ACPI / ACPICA: Do not execute _PRW methods during initialization
Currently, during initialization ACPICA walks the entire ACPI
namespace in search of any device objects with assciated _PRW
methods.  All of the _PRW methods found are executed in the process
to extract the GPE information returned by them, so that the GPEs in
question can be marked as "able to wakeup" (more precisely, the
ACPI_GPE_CAN_WAKE flag is set for them).  The only purpose of this
exercise is to avoid enabling the CAN_WAKE GPEs automatically, even
if there are _Lxx/_Exx methods associated with them.  However, it is
both costly and unnecessary, because the host OS has to execute the
_PRW methods anyway to check which devices can wake up the system
from sleep states.  Moreover, it then uses full information
returned by _PRW, including the GPE information, so it can take care
of disabling the GPEs if necessary.

Remove the code that walks the namespace and executes _PRW from
ACPICA and modify comments to reflect that change.  Make
acpi_bus_set_run_wake_flags() disable GPEs for wakeup devices
so that they don't cause spurious wakeup events to be signaled.
This not only reduces the complexity of the ACPICA initialization
code, but in some cases it should reduce the kernel boot time as
well.

Unfortunately, for this purpose we need a new ACPICA function,
acpi_gpe_can_wake(), to be called by the host OS in order to disable
the GPEs that can wake up the system and were previously enabled by
acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block() or acpi_ev_update_gpes() (such a GPE
should be disabled only once, because the initialization code enables
it only once, but it may be pointed to by _PRW for multiple devices
and that's why the additional function is necessary).

Alex Chiang 856b185dd2 ACPI: processor: fix processor_physically_present on UP
The commit 5d554a7bb0 (ACPI: processor: add internal
processor_physically_present()) is broken on uniprocessor (UP)
configurations, as acpi_get_cpuid() will always return -1.

We use the value of num_possible_cpus() to tell us whether we got
an invalid cpuid from acpi_get_cpuid() in the SMP case, or if
instead, we are UP, in which case num_possible_cpus() is #defined
as 1.

We use num_possible_cpus() instead of num_online_cpus() to
protect ourselves against the scenario of CPU hotplug, and we've
taken down all the CPUs except one.

The acpi_set_gpe() function is a little awkward, because it doesn't
really work as advertised in the "disable" case.  Namely, if a GPE
has been enabled with acpi_enable_gpe() and triggered a notification
to occur, and if acpi_set_gpe() is used to disable it before
acpi_ev_asynch_enable_gpe() runs, the GPE will be immediately enabled
by the latter as though the acpi_set_gpe() had no effect.

Thus, since it's been possible to make all of its callers use
alternative operations to disable or enable GPEs, acpi_set_gpe() can
be dropped.

Rafael J. Wysocki 3bd741bd0d ACPICA: Use low-level GPE enable during GPE block initialization
The GPE block initialization code in acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block()
uses acpi_set_gpe() to make sure that the GPEs with nonzero
runtime counter will remain enabled, but since it already has
a struct acpi_gpe_event_info object for each GPE, it might use
the low-level GPE enabling function, acpi_clear_and_enable_gpe(),
for this purpose.

To make that happen, move acpi_clear_and_enable_gpe() to
drivers/acpi/acpica/evgpe.c and rename it to acpi_ev_enable_gpe(),
modify the two existing users of it accordingly and modify
acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block() to use it instead of acpi_set_gpe()
and to check its return value.

Rafael J. Wysocki e8b6f97010 ACPICA: Introduce acpi_gpe_wakeup()
ACPICA uses reference counters to avoid disabling GPEs too early in
case they have been enabled for many times.  This is done separately
for runtime and for wakeup, but the wakeup GPE reference counter is
not really necessary, because GPEs are only enabled to wake up the
system at the hardware level by acpi_enter_sleep_state().  Thus it
only is necessary to set the corresponding bits in the wakeup enable
masks of these GPEs' registers right before the system enters a sleep
state.  Moreover, the GPE wakeup enable bits can only be set when the
target sleep state of the system is known and they need to be cleared
immediately after wakeup regardless of how many wakeup devices are
associated with a given GPE.

On the basis of the above observations, introduce function
acpi_gpe_wakeup() to be used for setting or clearing the enable bit
corresponding to a given GPE in its enable register's enable_for_wake
mask.  Modify the ACPI suspend and wakeup code the use
acpi_gpe_wakeup() instead of acpi_{enable|disable}_gpe() to set
and clear GPE enable bits in their registers' enable_for_wake masks
during system transitions to a sleep state and back to the working
state, respectively.  [This will allow us to drop the third
argument of acpi_{enable|disable}_gpe() and simplify the GPE
handling code.]

Alexey Starikovskiy c45b5c0970 ACPICA: Performance enhancement for namespace search and access
This change enhances the performance of namespace searches and
walks by adding a backpointer to the parent in each namespace
node. On large namespaces, this change can improve overall ACPI
performance by up to 9X.  Adding a pointer to each namespace node
increases the overall size of the internal namespace by about 5%,
since each namespace entry usually consists of both a namespace
node and an ACPI operand object.

Rafael J. Wysocki 25bed55753 ACPI / Sleep: Rework enabling wakeup devices
There is no reason why acpi_enable_wakeup_device() should be called
with interrupts disabled, because it doesn't access hardware.  Thus
it is possible to move it next to acpi_enable_wakeup_device_prep()
and make the ACPI suspend, hibernate and poweroff code more
straightforward.

If suspending of devices fails or system suspend is tested in the
"devices" mode, the memory allocated for storing a copy of the ACPI
NVS area will not be freed, because acpi_pm_finish() is not called
in that case.  Fix this by moving the suspend_nvs_free() call to
acpi_pm_end().

Daniel J Blueman 980533b018 correct console log level when ERST ACPI table is not found
When booting 2.6.35-rc3 on a x86 system without an ERST ACPI table with
the 'quiet' option, we still observe an "ERST: Table is not found!"
warning.

Quiesce it to the same info log level as the other 'table not found'
warnings.

Tejun Heo 8fec62b2d9 acpi: use queue_work_on() instead of binding workqueue worker to cpu0
ACPI works need to be executed on cpu0 and acpi/osl.c achieves this by
creating singlethread workqueue and then binding it to cpu0 from a
work which is quite unorthodox.  Make it create regular workqueues and
use queue_work_on() instead.  This is in preparation of concurrency
managed workqueue and the extra workers won't be a problem after it's
implemented.

Len Brown 3d695839a1 ACPI: handle systems which asynchoronously enable ACPI mode
Folklore suggested that such systems existed
in the pre-history of ACPI.

However, we removed the SCI_EN polling loop from
acpi_hw_set_mode() in b430acbd7c
because it delayed resume by 3 seconds on boxes
that refused to set SCI_EN.

Matthew removed the call to acpi_enable() from
the suspend resume path.

James found a modern system that still needs to be polled
upon boot.

So here we restore the workaround, except that we
put it in acpi_enable() rather than the low level
acpi_hw_set_mode().

Rafael J. Wysocki cb1cb1780f ACPI / PM: Do not enable GPEs for system wakeup in advance
After commit 9630bdd9b1
(ACPI: Use GPE reference counting to support shared GPEs) the wakeup
enable mask bits of GPEs are set as soon as the GPEs are enabled to
wake up the system.  Unfortunately, this leads to a regression
reported by Michal Hocko, where a system is woken up from ACPI S5 by
a device that is not supposed to do that, because the wakeup enable
mask bit of this device's GPE is always set when
acpi_enter_sleep_state() calls acpi_hw_enable_all_wakeup_gpes(),
although it should only be set if the device is supposed to wake up
the system from the target state.

To work around this issue, rework the ACPI power management code so
that GPEs are not enabled to wake up the system upfront, but only
during a system state transition when the target state of the system
is known.  [Of course, this means that the reference counting of
"wakeup" GPEs doesn't really make sense and it is sufficient to
set/unset the wakeup mask bits for them during system sleep
transitions.  This will allow us to simplify the GPE handling code
quite a bit, but that change is too intrusive for 2.6.35.]

The sysfs interface allowing user space to disable/enable GPEs
doesn't work correctly, because a GPE disabled this way will be
re-enabled shortly by acpi_ev_asynch_enable_gpe() if it was
previosuly enabled by acpi_enable_gpe() (in which case the
corresponding bit in its enable register's enable_for_run mask is
set).

To address this issue make the sysfs GPE interface use
acpi_enable_gpe() and acpi_disable_gpe() instead of acpi_set_gpe()
so that GPE reference counters are modified by it along with the
values of GPE enable registers.

While developing the GPE reference counting code we overlooked the
fact that acpi_ev_update_gpes() could have enabled GPEs before
acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block() was called.  As a result, some GPEs
are enabled twice during the initialization.

To fix this issue avoid calling acpi_enable_gpe() from
acpi_ev_initialize_gpe_block() for the GPEs that have nonzero
runtime reference counters.

Rafael J. Wysocki c9a8bbb770 ACPI / ACPICA: Avoid writing full enable masks to GPE registers
ACPICA uses acpi_hw_write_gpe_enable_reg() to re-enable a GPE after
an event signaled by it has been handled.  However, this function
writes the entire GPE enable mask to the GPE's enable register which
may not be correct.  Namely, if one of the other GPEs in the same
register was previously enabled by acpi_enable_gpe() and subsequently
disabled using acpi_set_gpe(), acpi_hw_write_gpe_enable_reg() will
re-enable it along with the target GPE.

To fix this issue rework acpi_hw_write_gpe_enable_reg() so that it
calls acpi_hw_low_set_gpe() with a special action value,
ACPI_GPE_COND_ENABLE, that will make it only enable the GPE if the
corresponding bit in its register's enable_for_run mask is set.

Rafael J. Wysocki fd247447c1 ACPI / ACPICA: Fix low-level GPE manipulation code
ACPICA uses acpi_ev_enable_gpe() for enabling GPEs at the low level,
which is incorrect, because this function only enables the GPE if the
corresponding bit in its enable register's enable_for_run mask is set.
This causes acpi_set_gpe() to work incorrectly if used for enabling
GPEs that were not previously enabled with acpi_enable_gpe().  As a
result, among other things, wakeup-only GPEs are never enabled by
acpi_enable_wakeup_device(), so the devices that use them are unable
to wake up the system.

To fix this issue remove acpi_ev_enable_gpe() and its counterpart
acpi_ev_disable_gpe() and replace acpi_hw_low_disable_gpe() with
acpi_hw_low_set_gpe() that will be used instead to manipulate GPE
enable bits at the low level.  Make the users of acpi_ev_enable_gpe()
and acpi_ev_disable_gpe() call acpi_hw_low_set_gpe() instead and
make sure that GPE enable masks are only updated by acpi_enable_gpe()
and acpi_disable_gpe() when GPE reference counters change from 0
to 1 and from 1 to 0, respectively.

computation is always open coded which leads to unnecessary code

one-bit GPE enable masks and using it where appropriate.

Rafael J. Wysocki a997ab3328 ACPI / ACPICA: Do not attempt to disable GPE when installing handler
Commit 0f849d2cc6 (ACPICA: Minimize
the differences between linux GPE code and ACPICA code base)
introduced a change attempting to disable a GPE before installing
a handler for it in acpi_install_gpe_handler() which was incorrect.
First, the GPE disabled by it is never enabled again (except during
resume) which leads to battery insert/remove events not being
reported on the Maxim Levitsky's machine.  Second, the disabled
GPE is still reported as enabled by the sysfs interface that only
checks its enable register's enable_for_run mask.

Revert this change for now, because it causes more damage to happen
than the bug it was supposed to fix.

Matthew Garrett 2a6b69765a ACPI: Store NVS state even when entering suspend to RAM
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13931 describes a bug where
a system fails to successfully resume after the second suspend. Maxim
Levitsky discovered that this could be rectified by forcibly saving
and restoring the ACPI non-volatile state. The spec indicates that this
is only required for S4, but testing the behaviour of Windows by adding
an ACPI NVS region to qemu's e820 map and registering a custom memory
read/write handler reveals that it's saved and restored even over suspend
to RAM. We should mimic that behaviour to avoid other broken platforms.

Thomas Renninger 75cbfb97a1 ACPI: Do not try to set up acpi processor stuff on cores exceeding maxcpus=
Patch is against latest Linus master branch and is expected to be
safe bug fix.

You get:
ACPI: HARDWARE addr space,NOT supported yet
for each ACPI defined CPU which status is active, but exceeds
maxcpus= count.

As these "not booted" CPUs do not run an idle routine
and echo X >/proc/acpi/processor/*/throttling did not work
I couldn't find a way to really access not onlined/booted
machines. Still this should get fixed and
/proc/acpi/processor/X dirs of cores exceeding maxcpus
should not show up.

I wonder whether this could get cleaned up by truncating possible cpu mask
and nr_cpu_ids to setup_max_cpus early some day
(and not exporting setup_max_cpus anymore then).
But this needs touching of a lot other places...

Zhao Yakui 157317ba3e ACPI: Fix the incorrect calculation about C-state idle time
The C-state idle time is not calculated correctly, which will return the wrong
residency time in C-state. It will have the following effects:
   1.  The system can't choose the deeper C-state when it is idle next time.
Of course the system power is increased. E.g. On one server machine about 40W
idle power is increased.
   2.  The powertop shows that it will stay in C0 running state about 95% time
although the system is idle at most time.

Rafael J. Wysocki d5a64513c6 ACPI / EC / PM: Fix race between EC transactions and system suspend
There still is a race that may result in suspending the system in
the middle of an EC transaction in progress, which leads to problems
(like the kernel thinking that the ACPI global lock is held during
resume while in fact it's not).

To remove the race condition, modify the ACPI platform suspend and
hibernate callbacks so that EC transactions are blocked right after
executing the _PTS global control method and are allowed to happen
again right after the low-level wakeup.

Introduce acpi_pm_freeze() that will disable GPEs, wait until the
event queues are empty and block EC transactions.  Use it wherever
GPEs are disabled in preparation for switching local interrupts off.
Introduce acpi_pm_thaw() that will allow EC transactions to happen
again and enable runtime GPEs.  Use it to balance acpi_pm_freeze()
wherever necessary.

In addition to that use acpi_ec_resume_transactions_early() to
unblock EC transactions as early as reasonably possible during
resume.  Also unblock EC transactions in acpi_hibernation_finish()
and in the analogous suspend routine to make sure that the EC
transactions are enabled in all error paths.

Venkatesh Pallipadi 0dc698b93f ACPI: Don't let acpi_pad needlessly mark TSC unstable
acpi pad driver kind of aggressively marks TSC as unstable at init
time, on mwait capable and non X86_FEATURE_NONSTOP_TSC systems. This is
irrespective of whether pad driver is ever going to be used on the
system or deep C-states are supported/used. This will affect every user
who just happens to compile in (or get a kernel version which
compiles in) acpi pad driver.

Move mark_tsc_unstable() out of init to the actual idle invocation path
of the pad driver.

There is also another bug/missing_feature in the code that it does not
support 'always running apic timer' and switches to broadcast mode
unconditionally. Shaohua, can you take a look at that please.

Len Brown 2671717265 intel_idle: native hardware cpuidle driver for latest Intel processors
This EXPERIMENTAL driver supersedes acpi_idle on
Intel Atom Processors, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Processors
and associated Intel Xeon processors.

It does not support the Intel Core2 processor or earlier.

For kernels configured with ACPI, CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=y
allows intel_idle to probe before the ACPI processor driver.
Booting with "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" disables intel_idle
and the system will fall back on ACPI's "acpi_idle".

Typical Linux distributions load ACPI processor module early,
making CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=m not easily useful on ACPI platforms.

intel_idle probes all processors at module_init time.
Processors that are hot-added later will be limited
to using C1 in idle.

Len Brown 02cf4f9808 ACPI: acpi_idle: touch TS_POLLING only in the non-MWAIT case
commit d306ebc286
(ACPI: Be in TS_POLLING state during mwait based C-state entry)
fixed an important power & performance issue where ACPI c2 and c3 C-states
were clearing TS_POLLING even when using MWAIT (ACPI_STATE_FFH).
That bug had been causing us to receive redundant scheduling interrups
when we had already been woken up by MONITOR/MWAIT.

Following up on that...

In the MWAIT case, we don't have to subsequently
check need_resched(), as that c heck was there
for the TS_POLLING-clearing case.

Note that not only does the cpuidle calling function
already check need_resched() before calling us, the
low-level entry into monitor/mwait calls it twice --
guaranteeing that a write to the trigger address
can not go un-noticed.

Also, in this case, we don't have to set TS_POLLING
when we wake, because we never cleared it.

Len Brown 541adf7cd9 ACPI: allow a native cpuidle driver to displace ACPI
The ACPI driver would fail probe when it found that
another driver had previously registered with cpuidle.

But this is a natural situation, as a native hardware
cpuidle driver should be able to bind instead of ACPI,
and the ACPI processor driver should be able to handle
yielding control of C-states while still handling
P-states and T-states.

Add a KERN_DEBUG line showing when acpi_idle
does successfully register.

Jean Delvare 70dd6beac0 hwmon: (asus_atk0110) Don't load if ACPI resources aren't enforced
When the user passes the kernel parameter acpi_enforce_resources=lax,
the ACPI resources are no longer protected, so a native driver can
make use of them. In that case, we do not want the asus_atk0110 to be
loaded. Unfortunately, this driver loads automatically due to its
MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE, so the user ends up with two drivers loaded for
the same device - this is bad.

So I suggest that we prevent the asus_atk0110 driver from loading if
acpi_enforce_resources=lax.

Len Brown 34a18d6fe5 ACPI: delete unused c-state promotion/demotion data strucutures
These were used before cpuidle by the native ACPI idle driver,
which tracked promotion and demotion between states.

The code was referenced by CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS
for /proc/acpi/processor/*/power,
but as we no longer do promotion/demotion, that
reference has been a NOP since the transition.

Lin Ming cce4f632db ACPI: fix early DSDT dmi check warnings on ia64
WARNING: at drivers/firmware/dmi_scan.c:423 dmi_matches+0x70/0x160()
dmi check: not initialized yet.

This is caused by commit aa2110c
(ACPI: add boot option acpi=copy_dsdt to fix corrupt DSDT).
DMI is not initialized yet in acpi_early_init on ia64.

The DSDT DMI check table is x86 specific, so make it empty on other archs.
And this fixes the warnings on ia64.

Huang Ying 6e320ec1d9 ACPI, APEI, EINJ injection parameters support
Some hardware error injection needs parameters, for example, it is
useful to specify memory address and memory address mask for memory
errors.

Some BIOSes allow parameters to be specified via an unpublished
extension. This patch adds support to it. The parameters will be
ignored on machines without necessary BIOS support.

Huang Ying a08f82d080 ACPI, APEI, Error Record Serialization Table (ERST) support
ERST is a way provided by APEI to save and retrieve hardware error
record to and from some simple persistent storage (such as flash).

The Linux kernel support implementation is quite simple and workable
in NMI context. So it can be used to save hardware error record into
flash in hardware error exception or NMI handler, where other more
complex persistent storage such as disk is not usable. After saving
hardware error records via ERST in hardware error exception or NMI
handler, the error records can be retrieved and logged into disk or
network after a clean reboot.

For more information about ERST, please refer to ACPI Specification
version 4.0, section 17.4.

This patch incorporate fixes from Jin Dongming.

Huang Ying d334a49113 ACPI, APEI, Generic Hardware Error Source memory error support
Generic Hardware Error Source provides a way to report platform
hardware errors (such as that from chipset). It works in so called
"Firmware First" mode, that is, hardware errors are reported to
firmware firstly, then reported to Linux by firmware. This way, some
non-standard hardware error registers or non-standard hardware link
can be checked by firmware to produce more valuable hardware error
information for Linux.

Now, only SCI notification type and memory errors are supported. More
notification type and hardware error type will be added later. These
memory errors are reported to user space through /dev/mcelog via
faking a corrected Machine Check, so that the error memory page can be
offlined by /sbin/mcelog if the error count for one page is beyond the
threshold.

On some machines, Machine Check can not report physical address for
some corrected memory errors, but GHES can do that. So this simplified
GHES is implemented firstly.

record format used to describe platform hardware error by various APEI
tables, such as ERST, BERT and HEST etc.

Huang Ying 801eab8118 ACPI Hardware Error Device (PNP0C33) support
Hardware Error Device (PNP0C33) is used to report some hardware errors
notified via SCI, mainly the corrected errors. Some APEI Generic
Hardware Error Source (GHES) may use SCI on hardware error device to
notify hardware error to kernel.

After receiving notification from ACPI core, it is forwarded to all
listeners via a notifier chain. The listener such as APEI GHES should
check corresponding error source for new events when notified.

firmware_first setup. It is rebased on general HEST tabling parsing

Huang Ying 9dc9666416 ACPI, APEI, HEST table parsing
HEST describes error sources in detail; communicating operational
parameters (i.e. severity levels, masking bits, and threshold values)
to OS as necessary. It also allows the platform to report error
sources for which OS would typically not implement support (for
example, chipset-specific error registers).

HEST information may be needed by other subsystems. For example, HEST
PCIE AER error source information describes whether a PCIE root port
works in "firmware first" mode, this is needed by general PCIE AER
error subsystem. So a public HEST tabling parsing interface is
provided.

Huang Ying a643ce207f ACPI, APEI, APEI supporting infrastructure
APEI stands for ACPI Platform Error Interface, which allows to report
errors (for example from the chipset) to the operating system. This
improves NMI handling especially. In addition it supports error
serialization and error injection.

For more information about APEI, please refer to ACPI Specification
version 4.0, chapter 17.

This patch provides some common functions used by more than one APEI
tables, mainly framework of interpreter for EINJ and ERST.

A machine readable language is defined for EINJ and ERST for OS to
execute, and so to drive the firmware to fulfill the corresponding
functions. The machine language for EINJ and ERST is compatible, so a
common framework is defined for them.

Huang Ying 15651291a2 ACPI, IO memory pre-mapping and atomic accessing
Some ACPI IO accessing need to be done in atomic context. For example,
APEI ERST operations may be used for permanent storage in hardware
error handler. That is, it may be called in atomic contexts such as
IRQ or NMI, etc. And, ERST/EINJ implement their operations via IO
memory/port accessing.  But the IO memory accessing method provided by
ACPI (acpi_read/acpi_write) maps the IO memory during it is accessed,
so it can not be used in atomic context. To solve the issue, the IO
memory should be pre-mapped during EINJ/ERST initializing. A linked
list is used to record which memory area has been mapped, when memory
is accessed in hardware error handler, search the linked list for the
mapped virtual address from the given physical address.

Matthew Garrett b6dacf63e9 ACPI: Unconditionally set SCI_EN on resume
The ACPI spec tells us that the firmware will reenable SCI_EN on resume.
Reality disagrees in some cases. The ACPI spec tells us that the only way
to set SCI_EN is via an SMM call.
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13745 shows us that doing so
may break machines. Tracing the ACPI calls made by Windows shows that it
unconditionally sets SCI_EN on resume with a direct register write, and
therefore the overwhelming probability is that everything is fine with
this behaviour.

Len Brown b430acbd7c ACPICA: simplify SCI_EN workaround
acpi_hw_set_mode() double checks its effectiveness
by calling acpi_hw_get_mode() -- polling up to 3 seconds.

It would be more logical for its caller, acpi_enable()
acpi_enable() to do the double-checking.  (lets assume
that acpi_disable() isn't interesting)

The ACPI specification is unclear on this point.
Some parts say that the BIOS sets SCI_EN and then returns to the OS,
but one part says "OSPM polls the SCI_EN bit until it is sampled SET".

The systems I have on hand do the former,
SCI_EN is observed to be set upon return from the BIOS.

So we move the check up out of acpi_hw_set_mode()
up into acpi_enable() where it makes logical sense.

Then we replace the 3-second polling loop
with a single check.  If this check fails, we'll see:

	"Hardware did not enter ACPI mode"

and the system will bail out of ACPI initialization
and likely fail to boot.  If we see that in practice,
we can restore the polling, but put it into acpi_enable.

This patch is important if acpi_enable() is used in
the resume from S3 path.  Many systems today are seen
coming back from S3 with SCI_EN off, and then failing
to set SCI_EN in response to acpi_enable().  Those systems
will take 3 seconds longer to resume due to this loop.

However, it is possible that we will not use acpi_enable()
in the S3 resume path, and bang SCI_EN directly, which
would make the loop harmless, as it would be invisible
to all systems except those that need it.

Mark Gross ed77134bfc PM QOS update
This patch changes the string based list management to a handle base
implementation to help with the hot path use of pm-qos, it also renames
much of the API to use "request" as opposed to "requirement" that was
used in the initial implementation.  I did this because request more
accurately represents what it actually does.

Also, I added a string based ABI for users wanting to use a string
interface.  So if the user writes 0xDDDDDDDD formatted hex it will be
accepted by the interface.  (someone asked me for it and I don't think
it hurts anything.)

This patch updates some documentation input I got from Randy.
