Andrey Vagin 51d7cccf07 net: make sock diag per-namespace
Before this patch sock_diag works for init_net only and dumps
information about sockets from all namespaces.

This patch expands sock_diag for all name-spaces.
It creates a netlink kernel socket for each netns and filters
data during dumping.

v2: filter accoding with netns in all places
    remove an unused variable.

Eric W. Biederman 4344475797 net: Kill register_sysctl_rotable
register_sysctl_rotable never caught on as an interesting way to
register sysctls. My take on the situation is that what we want are
sysctls that we can only see in the initial network namespace. What we
have implemented with register_sysctl_rotable are sysctls that we can
see in all of the network namespaces and can only change in the initial
network namespace.

That is a very silly way to go. Just register the network sysctls
in the initial network namespace and we don't have any weird special
cases to deal with.

The sysctls affected are:
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ipfrag_secret_interval
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ipfrag_max_dist
/proc/sys/net/ipv6/ip6frag_secret_interval
/proc/sys/net/ipv6/mld_max_msf

I really don't expect anyone will miss them if they can't read them in a
child user namespace.

Eric W. Biederman ab41a2ca50 net: Implement register_net_sysctl.
Right now all of the networking sysctl registrations are running in a
compatibiity mode. The natvie sysctl registration api takes a cstring
for a path and a simple ctl_table. Implement register_net_sysctl so
that we can register network sysctls without needing to use
compatiblity code in the sysctl core.

Switching from a ctl_path to a cstring results in less boiler plate
and denser code that is a little easier to read.

I would simply have changed the arguments to register_net_sysctl_table
instead of keeping two functions in parallel but gcc will allow a
ctl_path pointer to be passed to a char * pointer with only issuing a
warning resulting in completely incorrect code can be built. Since I
have to change the function name I am taking advantage of the situation
to let both register_net_sysctl and register_net_sysctl_table live for a
short time in parallel which makes clean conversion patches a bit easier
to read and write.

Thomas Graf 4e985adaa5 rtnl: provide link dump consistency info
This patch adds a change sequence counter to each net namespace
which is bumped whenever a netdevice is added or removed from
the list. If such a change occurred while a link dump took place,
the dump will have the NLM_F_DUMP_INTR flag set in the first
message which has been interrupted and in all subsequent messages
of the same dump.

Note that links may still be modified or renamed while a dump is
taking place but we can guarantee for userspace to receive a
complete list of links and not miss any.

Testing:
I have added 500 VLAN netdevices to make sure the dump is split
over multiple messages. Then while continuously dumping links in
one process I also continuously deleted and re-added a dummy
netdevice in another process. Multiple dumps per seconds have
had the NLM_F_DUMP_INTR flag set.

I guess we can wait for Johannes patch to hit net-next via the
wireless tree. I just wanted to give this some testing right away.

Al Viro a685e08987 Delay struct net freeing while there's a sysfs instance refering to it
* new refcount in struct net, controlling actual freeing of the memory
	* new method in kobj_ns_type_operations (->drop_ns())
	* ->current_ns() semantics change - it's supposed to be followed by
corresponding ->drop_ns(). For struct net in case of CONFIG_NET_NS it bumps
the new refcount; net_drop_ns() decrements it and calls net_free() if the
last reference has been dropped. Method renamed to ->grab_current_ns().
	* old net_free() callers call net_drop_ns() instead.
	* sysfs_exit_ns() is gone, along with a large part of callchain
leading to it; now that the references stored in ->ns[...] stay valid we
do not need to hunt them down and replace them with NULL. That fixes
problems in sysfs_lookup() and sysfs_readdir(), along with getting rid
of sb->s_instances abuse.

Note that struct net *shutdown* logics has not changed - net_cleanup()
is called exactly when it used to be called. The only thing postponed by
having a sysfs instance refering to that struct net is actual freeing of
memory occupied by struct net.

Eric W. Biederman f875bae065 net: Automatically allocate per namespace data.
To get the full benefit of batched network namespace cleanup netowrk
device deletion needs to be performed by the generic code. When
using register_pernet_gen_device and freeing the data in exit_net
it is impossible to delay allocation until after exit_net has called
as the device uninit methods are no longer safe.

To correct this, and to simplify working with per network namespace data
I have moved allocation and deletion of per network namespace data into
the network namespace core. The core now frees the data only after
all of the network namespace exit routines have run.

Now it is only required to set the new fields .id and .size
in the pernet_operations structure if you want network namespace
data to be managed for you automatically.

This makes the current register_pernet_gen_device and
register_pernet_gen_subsys routines unnecessary. For the moment
I have left them as compatibility wrappers in net_namespace.h
They will be removed once all of the users have been updated.

Eric W. Biederman 2b035b3997 net: Batch network namespace destruction.
It is fairly common to kill several network namespaces at once. Either
because they are nested one inside the other or because they are cooperating
in multiple machine networking experiments. As the network stack control logic
does not parallelize easily batch up multiple network namespaces existing
together.

To get the full benefit of batching the virtual network devices to be
removed must be all removed in one batch. For that purpose I have added
a loop after the last network device operations have run that batches
up all remaining network devices and deletes them.

An extra benefit is that the reorganization slightly shrinks the size
of the per network namespace data structures replaceing a work_struct
with a list_head.

In a trivial test with 4K namespaces this change reduced the cost of
a destroying 4K namespaces from 7+ minutes (at 12% cpu) to 44 seconds
(at 60% cpu). The bulk of that 44s was spent in inet_twsk_purge.

Johannes Berg 134e63756d genetlink: make netns aware
This makes generic netlink network namespace aware. No
generic netlink families except for the controller family
are made namespace aware, they need to be checked one by
one and then set the family->netnsok member to true.

A new function genlmsg_multicast_netns() is introduced to
allow sending a multicast message in a given namespace,
for example when it applies to an object that lives in
that namespace, a new function genlmsg_multicast_allns()
to send a message to all network namespaces (for objects
that do not have an associated netns).

The function genlmsg_multicast() is changed to multicast
the message in just init_net, which is currently correct
for all generic netlink families since they only work in
init_net right now. Some will later want to work in all
net namespaces because they do not care about the netns
at all -- those will have to be converted to use one of
the new functions genlmsg_multicast_allns() or
genlmsg_multicast_netns() whenever they are made netns
aware in some way.

After this patch families can easily decide whether or
not they should be available in all net namespaces. Many
genl families us it for objects not related to networking
and should therefore be available in all namespaces, but
that will have to be done on a per family basis.

Note that this doesn't touch on the checkpoint/restart
problem where network namespaces could be used, genl
families and multicast groups are numbered globally and
I see no easy way of changing that, especially since it
must be possible to multicast to all network namespaces
for those families that do not care about netns.

that led to it being added was simply that the icmp code thought

this problem is no longer present and we have a stronger guarantee
that packets will not arrive in a network namespace then that provided

Contains: pointer to parent set, list of tables and "should I see this set?"
method (->is_seen(set)).
Current lists of tables are subsumed by that; net-ns contains such a beast.
->lookup() for ctl_table_root returns pointer to ctl_table_set instead of
that to ->list of that ctl_table_set.

[folded compile fixes by rdd for configs without sysctl]

Receiving packets while we are cleaning up a network namespace is a
racy proposition. It is possible when the packet arrives that we have
removed some but not all of the state we need to fully process it. We
have the choice of either playing wack-a-mole with the cleanup routines
or simply dropping packets when we don't have a network namespace to
handle them.

Since the check looks inexpensive in netif_receive_skb let's just
drop the incoming packets.

Pavel Emelyanov dec827d174 [NETNS]: The generic per-net pointers.
Add the elastic array of void * pointer to the struct net.
The access rules are simple:

 1. register the ops with register_pernet_gen_device to get
the id of your private pointer
 2. call net_assign_generic() to put the private data on the
struct net (most preferably this should be done in the
->init callback of the ops registered)
 3. do not store any private reference on the net_generic array;
 4. do not change this pointer while the net is alive;
 5. use the net_generic() to get the pointer.

When adding a new pointer, I copy the old array, replace it
with a new one and schedule the old for kfree after an RCU
grace period.

Since the net_generic explores the net->gen array inside rcu
read section and once set the net->gen->ptr[x] pointer never
changes, this grants us a safe access to generic pointers.

Quoting Paul: "... RCU is protecting -only- the net_generic
structure that net_generic() is traversing, and the [pointer]
returned by net_generic() is protected by a reference counter
in the upper-level struct net."

Pavel Emelyanov c93cf61fd1 [NETNS]: The net-subsys IDs generator.
To make some per-net generic pointers, we need some way to address
them, i.e. - IDs. This is simple IDA-based IDs generator for pernet
subsystems.

Addressing questions about potential checkpoint/restart problems:
these IDs are "lite-offsets" within the net structure and are by no
means supposed to be exported to the userspace.

Since it will be used in the nearest future by devices only (tun,
vlan, tunnels, bridge, etc), I make it resemble the functionality
of register_pernet_device().

The new ids is stored in the *id pointer _before_ calling the init
callback to make this id available in this callback.

Pavel Emelyanov e9720acd72 [NET]: Make /proc/net a symlink on /proc/self/net (v3)
Current /proc/net is done with so called "shadows", but current
implementation is broken and has little chances to get fixed.

The problem is that dentries subtree of /proc/net directory has
fancy revalidation rules to make processes living in different
net namespaces see different entries in /proc/net subtree, but
currently, tasks see in the /proc/net subdir the contents of any
other namespace, depending on who opened the file first.

The proposed fix is to turn /proc/net into a symlink, which points
to /proc/self/net, which in turn shows what previously was in
/proc/net - the network-related info, from the net namespace the
appropriate task lives in.

# ls -l /proc/net
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 8 Mar  5 15:17 /proc/net -> self/net

In other words - this behaves like /proc/mounts, but unlike
"mounts", "net" is not a file, but a directory.

Changes from v2:
* Fixed discrepancy of /proc/net nlink count and selinux labeling
  screwup pointed out by Stephen.

To get the correct nlink count the ->getattr callback for /proc/net
is overridden to read one from the net->proc_net entry.

properly, i.e. with the "net" name and the proc_net parent.

- We discard it before we call the exit method it points to.

Pavel Emelyanov 4665079cbb [NETNS]: Move some code into __init section when CONFIG_NET_NS=n
With the net namespaces many code leaved the __init section,
thus making the kernel occupy more memory than it did before.
Since we have a config option that prohibits the namespace
creation, the functions that initialize/finalize some netns
stuff are simply not needed and can be freed after the boot.

Currently, this is almost not noticeable, since few calls
are no longer in __init, but when the namespaces will be
merged it will be possible to free more code. I propose to
use the __net_init, __net_exit and __net_initdata "attributes"
for functions/variables that are not used if the CONFIG_NET_NS
is not set to save more space in memory.

The exiting functions cannot just reside in the __exit section,
as noticed by David, since the init section will have
references on it and the compilation will fail due to modpost
checks. These references can exist, since the init namespace
never dies and the exit callbacks are never called. So I
introduce the __exit_refok attribute just like it is already
done with the __init_refok.

Eric W. Biederman f4618d39a3 [NETNS]: Simplify the network namespace list locking rules.
Denis V. Lunev <den@sw.ru> noticed that the locking rules
for the network namespace list are over complicated and broken.

In particular the current register_netdev_notifier currently
does not take any lock making the for_each_net iteration racy
with network namespace creation and destruction. Oops.

The fact that we need to use for_each_net in rtnl_unlock() when
the rtnetlink support becomes per network namespace makes designing
the proper locking tricky. In addition we need to be able to call
rtnl_lock() and rtnl_unlock() when we have the net_mutex held.

After thinking about it and looking at the alternatives carefully
it looks like the simplest and most maintainable solution is
to remove net_list_mutex altogether, and to use the rtnl_mutex instead.

Eric W. Biederman 2774c7aba6 [NET]: Make the loopback device per network namespace.
This patch makes loopback_dev per network namespace. Adding
code to create a different loopback device for each network
namespace and adding the code to free a loopback device
when a network namespace exits.

This patch modifies all users the loopback_dev so they
access it as init_net.loopback_dev, keeping all of the
code compiling and working. A later pass will be needed to
update the users to use something other than the initial network
namespace.

Eric W. Biederman 9dd776b6d7 [NET]: Add network namespace clone & unshare support.
This patch allows you to create a new network namespace
using sys_clone, or sys_unshare.

As the network namespace is still experimental and under development
clone and unshare support is only made available when CONFIG_NET_NS is
selected at compile time.

As this patch introduces network namespace support into code paths
that exist when the CONFIG_NET is not selected there are a few
additions made to net_namespace.h to allow a few more functions
to be used when the networking stack is not compiled in.

Eric W. Biederman 077130c0cf [NET]: Fix race when opening a proc file while a network namespace is exiting.
The problem: proc_net files remember which network namespace the are
against but do not remember hold a reference count (as that would pin
the network namespace). So we currently have a small window where
the reference count on a network namespace may be incremented when opening
a /proc file when it has already gone to zero.

To fix this introduce maybe_get_net and get_proc_net.

maybe_get_net increments the network namespace reference count only if it is
greater then zero, ensuring we don't increment a reference count after it
has gone to zero.

get_proc_net handles all of the magic to go from a proc inode to the network
namespace instance and call maybe_get_net on it.

PROC_NET the old accessor is removed so that we don't get confused and use
the wrong helper function.

Then I fix up the callers to use get_proc_net and handle the case case
where get_proc_net returns NULL. In that case I return -ENXIO because
effectively the network namespace has already gone away so the files
we are trying to access don't exist anymore.

Daniel Lezcano 4fabcd7118 [NETNS]: Fix allnoconfig compilation error.
When CONFIG_NET=no, init_net is unresolved because net_namespace.c
is not compiled and the include pull init_net definition.

This problem was very similar with the ipc namespace where the kernel
can be compiled with SYSV ipc out.

This patch fix that defining a macro which simply remove init_net
initialization from nsproxy namespace aggregator.

Compiled and booted on qemu-i386 with CONFIG_NET=no and CONFIG_NET=yes.

Eric W. Biederman 881d966b48 [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network
namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a
network namespace variable, and then it picks up
a few associated variables. The functions:
dev_getbyhwaddr
dev_getfirsthwbytype
dev_get_by_flags
dev_get_by_name
__dev_get_by_name
dev_get_by_index
__dev_get_by_index
dev_ioctl
dev_ethtool
dev_load
wireless_process_ioctl

were modified to take a network namespace argument, and
deal with it.

vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their
hooks will receive a network namespace argument.

So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was
affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle
multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was
simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network
namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network
stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.

For now the ifindex generator is left global.

Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else
we will have corner case problems with migration when
we get that far.

At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack
that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making
the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until
the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when
you change namespaces, and the like.

Eric W. Biederman 457c4cbc5a [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespace
This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global
variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace.
The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument,
and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument.
This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and
usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them
has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces.

Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files
in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per
network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents
that are relevant to a single network namespace.

Eric W. Biederman 5f256becd8 [NET]: Basic network namespace infrastructure.
This is the basic infrastructure needed to support network
namespaces. This infrastructure is:
- Registration functions to support initializing per network
namespace data when a network namespaces is created or destroyed.

- struct net. The network namespace data structure.
This structure will grow as variables are made per network
namespace but this is the minimal starting point.

- Functions to grab a reference to the network namespace.
I provide both get/put functions that keep a network namespace
from being freed. And hold/release functions serve as weak references
and will warn if their count is not zero when the data structure
is freed. Useful for dealing with more complicated data structures
  like the ipv4 route cache.

- A list of all of the network namespaces so we can iterate over them.

- A slab for the network namespace data structure allowing leaks
  to be spotted.
