In ancient times, the messenger could both initiate and accept connections.
An artifact if that was data structures to store/process an incoming
ceph_msg_connect request and send an outgoing ceph_msg_connect_reply.
Sadly, the negotiation code was referencing those structures and ignoring
important information (like the peer's connect_seq) from the correct ones.
Among other things, this fixes tight reconnect loops where the server sends
RETRY_SESSION and we (the client) retries with the same connect_seq as last
time. This bug pretty easily triggered by injecting socket failures on the
MDS and running some fs workload like workunits/direct_io/test_sync_io.

This patch adds DMA_ATTR_SKIP_CPU_SYNC attribute to the DMA-mapping
subsystem.
By default dma_map_{single,page,sg} functions family transfer a given
buffer from CPU domain to device domain. Some advanced use cases might
require sharing a buffer between more than one device. This requires
having a mapping created separately for each device and is usually
performed by calling dma_map_{single,page,sg} function more than once
for the given buffer with device pointer to each device taking part in
the buffer sharing. The first call transfers a buffer from 'CPU' domain
to 'device' domain, what synchronizes CPU caches for the given region
(usually it means that the cache has been flushed or invalidated
depending on the dma direction). However, next calls to
dma_map_{single,page,sg}() for other devices will perform exactly the
same sychronization operation on the CPU cache. CPU cache sychronization
might be a time consuming operation, especially if the buffers are
large, so it is highly recommended to avoid it if possible.
DMA_ATTR_SKIP_CPU_SYNC allows platform code to skip synchronization of
the CPU cache for the given buffer assuming that it has been already
transferred to 'device' domain. This attribute can be also used for
dma_unmap_{single,page,sg} functions family to force buffer to stay in
device domain after releasing a mapping for it. Use this attribute with
care!

This patch adds dma_get_sgtable() function which is required to let
drivers to share the buffers allocated by DMA-mapping subsystem. Right
now the driver gets a dma address of the allocated buffer and the kernel
virtual mapping for it. If it wants to share it with other device (= map
into its dma address space) it usually hacks around kernel virtual
addresses to get pointers to pages or assumes that both devices share
the DMA address space. Both solutions are just hacks for the special
cases, which should be avoided in the final version of buffer sharing.
To solve this issue in a generic way, a new call to DMA mapping has been
introduced - dma_get_sgtable(). It allocates a scatter-list which
describes the allocated buffer and lets the driver(s) to use it with
other device(s) by calling dma_map_sg() on it.
This patch provides a generic implementation based on virt_to_page()
call. Architectures which require more sophisticated translation might
provide their own get_sgtable() methods.

This adds symlink and hardlink restrictions to the Linux VFS.
Symlinks:
A long-standing class of security issues is the symlink-based
time-of-check-time-of-use race, most commonly seen in world-writable
directories like /tmp. The common method of exploitation of this flaw
is to cross privilege boundaries when following a given symlink (i.e. a
root process follows a symlink belonging to another user). For a likely
incomplete list of hundreds of examples across the years, please see:
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=/tmp
The solution is to permit symlinks to only be followed when outside
a sticky world-writable directory, or when the uid of the symlink and
follower match, or when the directory owner matches the symlink's owner.

Past objections and rebuttals could be summarized as:
- Violates POSIX.
- POSIX didn't consider this situation and it's not useful to follow
a broken specification at the cost of security.
- Might break unknown applications that use this feature.
- Applications that break because of the change are easy to spot and
fix. Applications that are vulnerable to symlink ToCToU by not having
the change aren't. Additionally, no applications have yet been found
that rely on this behavior.
- Applications should just use mkstemp() or O_CREATE|O_EXCL.
- True, but applications are not perfect, and new software is written
all the time that makes these mistakes; blocking this flaw at the
kernel is a single solution to the entire class of vulnerability.
- This should live in the core VFS.
- This should live in an LSM. (https://lkml.org/lkml/2010/5/31/135)

Hardlinks:
On systems that have user-writable directories on the same partition
as system files, a long-standing class of security issues is the
hardlink-based time-of-check-time-of-use race, most commonly seen in
world-writable directories like /tmp. The common method of exploitation
of this flaw is to cross privilege boundaries when following a given
hardlink (i.e. a root process follows a hardlink created by another
user). Additionally, an issue exists where users can "pin" a potentially
vulnerable setuid/setgid file so that an administrator will not actually
upgrade a system fully.
The solution is to permit hardlinks to only be created when the user is
already the existing file's owner, or if they already have read/write
access to the existing file.
Many Linux users are surprised when they learn they can link to files
they have no access to, so this change appears to follow the doctrine
of "least surprise". Additionally, this change does not violate POSIX,
which states "the implementation may require that the calling process
has permission to access the existing file"[1].
This change is known to break some implementations of the "at" daemon,
though the version used by Fedora and Ubuntu has been fixed[2] for
a while. Otherwise, the change has been undisruptive while in use in
Ubuntu for the last 1.5 years.

main.c has initcall_level_names[] for parse_args to print in debug messages,
add comments to keep them in sync with initcalls defined in init.h.
Also add "loadable" into comment re not using *_initcall macros in
modules, to disambiguate from kernel/params.c and other builtins.

Add few explanation for them is helpful.

Recently, glibc made a change to suppress sign-conversion warnings in
FD_SET (glibc commit ceb9e56b3d1). This uncovered an issue with the
kernel's definition of __NFDBITS if applications #include
<linux/types.h> after including <sys/select.h>. A build failure would
be seen when passing the -Werror=sign-compare and -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2
flags to gcc.
It was suggested that the kernel should either match the glibc
definition of __NFDBITS or remove that entirely. The current in-kernel
uses of __NFDBITS can be replaced with BITS_PER_LONG, and there are no
uses of the related __FDELT and __FDMASK defines. Given that, we'll
continue the cleanup that was started with commit 8b3d1cda4f
("posix_types: Remove fd_set macros") and drop the remaining unused
macros.
Additionally, linux/time.h has similar macros defined that expand to
nothing so we'll remove those at the same time.

Here's the big staging tree merge for the 3.6-rc1 merge window.
There are some patches in here outside of drivers/staging/, notibly the iio
code (which is still stradeling the staging / not staging boundry), the pstore
code, and the tracing code. All of these have gotten ackes from the various
subsystem maintainers to be included in this tree. The pstore and tracing
patches are related, and are coming here as they replace one of the android
staging drivers.
Otherwise, the normal staging mess. Lots of cleanups and a few new drivers
(some iio drivers, and the large csr wireless driver abomination.)
Note, you will get a merge issue with the following files:
drivers/staging/comedi/drivers/s626.h
drivers/staging/gdm72xx/netlink_k.c
both of which should be trivial for you to handle.

Commit 8e7fbcbc22 ("sched: Remove stale power aware scheduling remnants
and dysfunctional knobs") removed SD_PERFER_SIBLING from the CPU domain.
On NUMA machines this causes that load_balance() doesn't perfer LCPU in
same physical CPU package.
It causes some actual performance regressions on our NUMA machines from
Core2 to NHM and SNB.
Adding this domain flag again recovers the performance drop.
This change doesn't have any bad impact on any of my benchmarks:
specjbb, kbuild, fio, hackbench .. etc, on all my machines.

The Linux Thermal Framework does not support hysteresis

hysteresis value associated with trip points.
This patch adds hysteresis attributes on a per-trip-point

The most important part of these updates is the IOMMU groups code
enhancement written by Alex Williamson. It abstracts the problem that a
given hardware IOMMU can't isolate any given device from any other
device (e.g. 32 bit PCI devices can't usually be isolated). Devices that
can't be isolated are grouped together. This code is required for the
upcoming VFIO framework.
Another IOMMU-API change written by be is the introduction of domain
attributes. This makes it easier to handle GART-like IOMMUs with the
IOMMU-API because now the start-address and the size of the domain
address space can be queried.
Besides that there are a few cleanups and fixes for the NVidia Tegra
IOMMU drivers and the reworked init-code for the AMD IOMMU. The later is
from my patch-set to support interrupt remapping. The rest of this
patch-set requires x86 changes which are not mergabe yet. So full
support for interrupt remapping with AMD IOMMUs will come in a future
merge window.

- We are getting 'UHID', which is a new framework for implementing HID

is transport-independent and provides report parsing facilities;
uhid is for the other (transport) part of the pipeline).
It's needed for (and currently being used by) Bluetooth-LowEnergy,
as its specification mandates things we don't want in the kernel.
Written by David Herrmann.
- there have been quite a few bugs in runtime suspend/resume paths
(probably never reported to actually happen in the wild, but still).
Alan Stern fixed those.

Pull networking changes from David S Miller:
1) Remove the ipv4 routing cache. Now lookups go directly into the FIB
trie and use prebuilt routes cached there.
No more garbage collection, no more rDOS attacks on the routing
cache. Instead we now get predictable and consistent performance,
no matter what the pattern of traffic we service.
This has been almost 2 years in the making. Special thanks to
Julian Anastasov, Eric Dumazet, Steffen Klassert, and others who
have helped along the way.
I'm sure that with a change of this magnitude there will be some
kind of fallout, but such things ought the be simple to fix at this
point. Luckily I'm not European so I'll be around all of August to
fix things :-)
The major stages of this work here are each fronted by a forced
merge commit whose commit message contains a top-level description
of the motivations and implementation issues.
2) Pre-demux of established ipv4 TCP sockets, saves a route demux on
input.
3) TCP SYN/ACK performance tweaks from Eric Dumazet.
4) Add namespace support for netfilter L4 conntrack helpers, from Gao
Feng.
5) Add config mechanism for Energy Efficient Ethernet to ethtool, from
Yuval Mintz.
6) Remove quadratic behavior from /proc/net/unix, from Eric Dumazet.
7) Support for connection tracker helpers in userspace, from Pablo
Neira Ayuso.
8) Allow userspace driven TX load balancing functions in TEAM driver,
from Jiri Pirko.
9) Kill off NLMSG_PUT and RTA_PUT macros, more gross stuff with
embedded gotos.
10) TCP Small Queues, essentially minimize the amount of TCP data queued
up in the packet scheduler layer. Whereas the existing BQL (Byte
Queue Limits) limits the pkt_sched --> netdevice queuing levels,
this controls the TCP --> pkt_sched queueing levels.
From Eric Dumazet.
11) Reduce the number of get_page/put_page ops done on SKB fragments,
from Alexander Duyck.
12) Implement protection against blind resets in TCP (RFC 5961), from
Eric Dumazet.
13) Support the client side of TCP Fast Open, basically the ability to
send data in the SYN exchange, from Yuchung Cheng.
Basically, the sender queues up data with a sendmsg() call using
MSG_FASTOPEN, then they do the connect() which emits the queued up
fastopen data.
14) Avoid all the problems we get into in TCP when timers or PMTU events
hit a locked socket. The TCP Small Queues changes added a
tcp_release_cb() that allows us to queue work up to the
release_sock() caller, and that's what we use here too. From Eric
Dumazet.
15) Zero copy on TX support for TUN driver, from Michael S. Tsirkin.

SCCB is a serial communication bus developed by Omnivision. Its 2-wire
mode is very similar to SMBus byte data transactions, but requires the
controller to ignore the ACK bit and to insert a stop condition after
each message.
Add a device SCCB flag and a message stop flag to be passed to

Stefan reported a crash on a kernel before a3e5d1091c ("sched:
Don't call task_group() too many times in set_task_rq()"), he
found the reason to be that the multiple task_group()
invocations in set_task_rq() returned different values.
Looking at all that I found a lack of serialization and plain
wrong comments.
The below tries to fix it using an extra pointer which is
updated under the appropriate scheduler locks. Its not pretty,
but I can't really see another way given how all the cgroup
stuff works.

Traversing an entire package is not only expensive, it also leads to tasks
bouncing all over a partially idle and possible quite large package. Fix
that up by assigning a 'buddy' CPU to try to motivate. Each buddy may try
to motivate that one other CPU, if it's busy, tough, it may then try its
SMT sibling, but that's all this optimization is allowed to cost.
Sibling cache buddies are cross-wired to prevent bouncing.

Separate out the cpuset related handling for CPU/Memory online/offline.
This also helps us exploit the most obvious and basic level of optimization
that any notification mechanism (CPU/Mem online/offline) has to offer us:
"We *know* why we have been invoked. So stop pretending that we are lost,
and do only the necessary amount of processing!".
And while at it, rename scan_for_empty_cpusets() to
scan_cpusets_upon_hotplug(), which is more appropriate considering how
it is restructured.

"Notable highlights:
- iommu improvements from Anton removing the per-iommu global lock in
favor of dividing the DMA space into pools, each with its own lock,
and hashed on the CPU number. Along with making the locking more
fine grained, this gives significant improvements in multiqueue
networking scalability.
- Still from Anton, we know provide a vdso based variant of getcpu
which makes sched_getcpu with the appropriate glibc patch something
like 18 times faster.
- More anton goodness (he's been busy !) in other areas such as a
faster __clear_user and copy_page on P7, various perf fixes to
improve sampling quality, etc...
- One more step toward removing legacy i2c interfaces by using new
device-tree based probing of platform devices for the AOA audio
drivers
- A nice series of patches from Michael Neuling that helps avoiding
confusion between register numbers and litterals in assembly code,
trying to enforce the use of "%rN" register names in gas rather
than plain numbers.
- A pile of FSL updates
- The usual bunch of small fixes, cleanups etc...
You may spot a change to drivers/char/mem. The patch got no comment
or ack from outside, it's a trivial patch to allow the architecture to
skip creating /dev/port, which we use to disable it on ppc64 that
don't have a legacy brige. On those, IO ports 0...64K are not mapped
in kernel space at all, so accesses to /dev/port cause oopses (and
yes, distros -still- ship userspace that bangs hard coded ports such
as kbdrate)."

functions are called repeatedly.
This is meant to be used by drivers which needs to trigger on sporadic
event, but doesn't have clear busy/idle trigger points.
After the blink sequence the led remains off. This behavior can be
inverted setting the "invert" argument, which blink the led off, than on
and leave the led on after the sequence.

when writing the same value to delay_on or delay_off')

This adds support for three new SoC types:
* The mvebu platform includes Marvell's Armada XP and Armada 370 chips,
made by the mvebu business unit inside of Marvell. Since the same
group also made the older but similar platforms we call "orion5x",
"kirkwood", "mv78xx0" and "dove", we plan to move all of them into
the mach-mvebu directory in the future.
* socfpga is Altera's platform based on Cortex-A9 cores and a lot of
FPGA space. This is similar to the Xilinx zynq platform we already
support. The code is particularly clean, which is helped by the fact
that the hardware doesn't do much besides the parts that are
expected to get added in the FPGA.
* The OMAP subarchitecture gains support for the latest generation,
the OMAP5 based on the new Cortex-A15 core. Support is rather
rudimentary for now, but will be extended in the future.

of getting converted to device tree based booting, and the platform
specific patches necessary for that are included here. Other platforms
are already converted, so we just need to update the actual device
tree source files and the binding documents to add support for new board

In the future we will probably separate those into two branches, and
in the long run, the plan is to move the device tree source files out
of the kernel repository, but that has to wait until we have completed

Pull the big VFS changes from Al Viro:
"This one is *big* and changes quite a few things around VFS. What's in there:
- the first of two really major architecture changes - death to open
intents.
The former is finally there; it was very long in making, but with
Miklos getting through really hard and messy final push in
fs/namei.c, we finally have it. Unlike his variant, this one
doesn't introduce struct opendata; what we have instead is
->atomic_open() taking preallocated struct file * and passing
everything via its fields.
Instead of returning struct file *, it returns -E... on error, 0
on success and 1 in "deal with it yourself" case (e.g. symlink
found on server, etc.).
See comments before fs/namei.c:atomic_open(). That made a lot of
goodies finally possible and quite a few are in that pile:
->lookup(), ->d_revalidate() and ->create() do not get struct
nameidata * anymore; ->lookup() and ->d_revalidate() get lookup
flags instead, ->create() gets "do we want it exclusive" flag.
With the introduction of new helper (kern_path_locked()) we are rid
of all struct nameidata instances outside of fs/namei.c; it's still
visible in namei.h, but not for long. Come the next cycle,
declaration will move either to fs/internal.h or to fs/namei.c
itself. [me, miklos, hch]
- The second major change: behaviour of final fput(). Now we have
__fput() done without any locks held by caller *and* not from deep
in call stack.
That obviously lifts a lot of constraints on the locking in there.
Moreover, it's legal now to call fput() from atomic contexts (which
has immediately simplified life for aio.c). We also don't need
anti-recursion logics in __scm_destroy() anymore.
There is a price, though - the damn thing has become partially
asynchronous. For fput() from normal process we are guaranteed
that pending __fput() will be done before the caller returns to
userland, exits or gets stopped for ptrace.
For kernel threads and atomic contexts it's done via
schedule_work(), so theoretically we might need a way to make sure
it's finished; so far only one such place had been found, but there
might be more.
There's flush_delayed_fput() (do all pending __fput()) and there's
__fput_sync() (fput() analog doing __fput() immediately). I hope
we won't need them often; see warnings in fs/file_table.c for
details. [me, based on task_work series from Oleg merged last
cycle]
- sync series from Jan
- large part of "death to sync_supers()" work from Artem; the only
bits missing here are exofs and ext4 ones. As far as I understand,
those are going via the exofs and ext4 trees resp.; once they are
in, we can put ->write_super() to the rest, along with the thread
calling it.
- preparatory bits from unionmount series (from dhowells).
- assorted cleanups and fixes all over the place, as usual.
This is not the last pile for this cycle; there's at least jlayton's
ESTALE work and fsfreeze series (the latter - in dire need of fixes,
so I'm not sure it'll make the cut this cycle). I'll probably throw
symlink/hardlink restrictions stuff from Kees into the next pile, too.
Plus there's a lot of misc patches I hadn't thrown into that one -
it's large enough as it is..."

libfdt is part of the device tree support in scripts/dtc/libfdt. For
some platforms that use the Device Tree, we want to be able to edit
the flattened device tree form.
We don't want to burden kernel builds that do not require it, so we
gate compilation of libfdt files with CONFIG_LIBFDT. So if it is
needed, you need to do this in your Kconfig:
select LIBFDT
And in the Makefile of the code using libfdt something like:

ICMP messages generated in output path if frame length is bigger than
mtu are actually lost because socket is owned by user (doing the xmit)
One example is the ipgre_tunnel_xmit() calling
icmp_send(skb, ICMP_DEST_UNREACH, ICMP_FRAG_NEEDED, htonl(mtu));
We had a similar case fixed in commit a34a101e1e (ipv6: disable GSO on
sockets hitting dst_allfrag).
Problem of such fix is that it relied on retransmit timers, so short tcp
sessions paid a too big latency increase price.
This patch uses the tcp_release_cb() infrastructure so that MTU
reduction messages (ICMP messages) are not lost, and no extra delay
is added in TCP transmits.

Lots and lots of fixes from Axel and some others here, plus some framework
enhancements which continue the theme of factoring code out of the drivers
and into the core.
- Initial framework support for GPIO controlled enable signals, saving a
bunch of code in drivers.
- Move fixed regulator enable time and voltage mapping table
specifications to data.
- Used some of the recent framework enhancements to make voltage change
notifications more useful, passing the voltage in as an argument to the
notification.
- Fixed the pattern used for finding individual regulators on a device
to not rely on the node name, supporting the use of multiple PMICs of
the same type in the system.
- New drivers for Maxim MAX77686, TI LP872x and LP8788, Samsung S2MPS11,

For ext3/4 htree directories, using the vfs llseek function with
SEEK_END goes to i_size like for any other file, but in reality
we want the maximum possible hash value. Recent changes
in ext4 have cut & pasted generic_file_llseek() back into fs/ext4/dir.c,
but replicating this core code seems like a bad idea, especially
since the copy has already diverged from the vfs.
This patch updates generic_file_llseek_size to accept
both a custom maximum offset, and a custom EOF position. With this
in place, ext4_dir_llseek can pass in the appropriate maximum hash
position for both maxsize and eof, and get what it wants.
As far as I know, this does not fix any bugs - nfs in the kernel
doesn't use SEEK_END, and I don't know of any user who does. But
some ext4 folks seem keen on doing the right thing here, and I can't
really argue.
(Patch also fixes up some comments slightly)

(and yes, now it *is* OK to call from interrupt).
We are guaranteed that __fput() will be done before we return
to userland (or exit). Note that for fput() from a kernel
thread we get an async behaviour; it's almost always OK, but
sometimes you might need to have __fput() completed before
you do anything else. There are two mechanisms for that -
a general barrier (flush_delayed_fput()) and explicit
__fput_sync(). Both should be used with care (as was the
case for fput() from kernel threads all along). See comments

Instead of updating the sk_cgrp_prioidx struct field on every send
this only updates the field when a task is moved via cgroup
infrastructure.
This allows sockets that may be used by a kernel worker thread
to be managed. For example in the iscsi case today a user can
put iscsid in a netprio cgroup and control traffic will be sent
with the correct sk_cgrp_prioidx value set but as soon as data
is sent the kernel worker thread isssues a send and sk_cgrp_prioidx
is updated with the kernel worker threads value which is the
default case.
It seems more correct to only update the field when the user
explicitly sets it via control group infrastructure. This allows
the users to manage sockets that may be used with other threads.

Add a new flag of SDHCI_USING_RETUNING_TIMER to represent if the host

This flag is set when the host does tuning the first time for the card
and the host's retuning mode is 1. This flag is used afterwards whenever
needs to decide if the host is currently using a retuning timer.
This flag is cleared when the card is removed in sdhci_reinit.
The set/clear of the flag and the start/stop of the retuning timer is
associated with the card's init/remove time, so there is no need to

the capability_1 register also needs changing. Use the quirk
SDHCI_QUIRK_MISSING_CAPS to allow both registers to be set.
Redefining caps[1] is useful when the board design does not
support 1.8v vccq so UHS modes are not available. The code that

the caps so the UHS mode will not be attempted on UHS cards.

"Quoting from Paul, the major features of this series are:
1. Preventing latency spikes of more than 200 microseconds for
kernels built with NR_CPUS=4096, which is reportedly becoming the
default for some distros. This is a first step, as it does not
help with systems that actually -have- 4096 CPUs (work on this case
is in progress, but is not yet ready for mainline).
This category also includes improving concurrency of rcu_barrier(),

Note that patches 18-22 of that series have been defered to 3.7, as
they have not yet proven themselves to be mainline-ready (and yes,
these are the ones intended to get rid of RCU's latency spikes for
systems that actually have 4096 CPUs).

kthread_worker provides minimalistic workqueue-like interface for
users which need a dedicated worker thread (e.g. for realtime
priority). It has basic queue, flush_work, flush_worker operations
which mostly match the workqueue counterparts; however, due to the way
flush_work() is implemented, it has a noticeable difference of not
allowing work items to be freed while being executed.
While the current users of kthread_worker are okay with the current
behavior, the restriction does impede some valid use cases. Also,
removing this difference isn't difficult and actually makes the code
easier to understand.
This patch reimplements flush_kthread_work() such that it uses a
flush_work item instead of queue/done sequence numbers.

Merge emailed kgdb dmesg fixups patches from Anton Vorontsov:
"The dmesg command appears to be broken after the printk rework. The
old logic in the kdb code makes no sense in terms of current
printk/logging storage format, and KDB simply hangs forever upon
entering 'dmesg' command.
The first patch revives the command by switching to kmsg_dumper
iterator. As a side-effect, the code is now much more simpler.
A few changes were needed in the printk.c: we needed unlocked variant
of the kmsg_dumper iterator, but these can surely wait for 3.6.
It's probably too late even for the first patch to go to 3.5, but I'll
try to convince otherwise. :-) Here we go:
- The current code is broken for sure, and has no hope to work at
all. It is a regression
- The new code works for me, and probably works for everyone else;
- If it compiles (and I urge everyone to compile-test it on your
setup), it hardly can make things worse."

kdb: Switch to nolock variants of kmsg_dump functions
printk: Implement some unlocked kmsg_dump functions
printk: Remove kdb_syslog_data
kdb: Revive dmesg command
If used from KDB, the locked variants are prone to deadlocks (suppose we
got to the debugger w/ the logbuf lock held).
So, we have to implement a few routines that grab no logbuf lock.
Yet we don't need these functions in modules, so we don't export them.

This patch fixes a crash
tun_chr_close -> netdev_run_todo -> tun_free_netdev -> sk_release_kernel ->
sock_release -> iput(SOCK_INODE(sock))
introduced by commit 1ab5ecb90c
The problem is that this socket is embedded in struct tun_struct, it has
no inode, iput is called on invalid inode, which modifies invalid memory
and optionally causes a crash.
sock_release also decrements sockets_in_use, this causes a bug that
"sockets: used" field in /proc/*/net/sockstat keeps on decreasing when
creating and closing tun devices.
This patch introduces a flag SOCK_EXTERNALLY_ALLOCATED that instructs
sock_release to not free the inode and not decrement sockets_in_use,
fixing both memory corruption and sockets_in_use underflow.
It should be backported to 3.3 an 3.4 stabke.

Modern TCP stack highly depends on tcp_write_timer() having a small
latency, but current implementation doesn't exactly meet the
expectations.
When a timer fires but finds the socket is owned by the user, it rearms
itself for an additional delay hoping next run will be more
successful.
tcp_write_timer() for example uses a 50ms delay for next try, and it
defeats many attempts to get predictable TCP behavior in term of
latencies.
Use the recently introduced tcp_release_cb(), so that the user owning
the socket will call various handlers right before socket release.
This will permit us to post a followup patch to address the
tcp_tso_should_defer() syndrome (some deferred packets have to wait
RTO timer to be transmitted, while cwnd should allow us to send them
sooner)

In response to an async related regression James noted:
"My theory is that this is an init problem: The assumption in a lot of
our code is that async_synchronize_full() waits for everything ... even
the domain specific async schedules, which isn't true."
...so make this assumption true.
Each domain, including the default one, registers itself on a global domain
list when work is scheduled. Once all entries complete it exits that
list. Waiting for the list to be empty syncs all in-flight work across
all domains.
Domains can opt-out of global syncing if they are declared as exclusive
ASYNC_DOMAIN_EXCLUSIVE(). All stack-based domains have been declared
exclusive since the domain may go out of scope as soon as the last work
item completes.
Statically declared domains are mostly ok, but async_unregister_domain()
is there to close any theoretical races with pending
async_synchronize_full waiters at module removal time.

When managing shost->host_eh_scheduled libata assumes that there is a
1:1 shost-to-ata_port relationship. libsas creates a 1:N relationship
so it needs to manage host_eh_scheduled cumulatively at the host level.
The sched_eh and end_eh port port ops allow libsas to track when domain
devices enter/leave the "eh-pending" state under ha->lock (previously
named ha->state_lock, but it is no longer just a lock for ha->state
changes).
Since host_eh_scheduled indicates eh without backing commands pinning
the device it can be deallocated at any time. Move the taking of the
domain_device reference under the port_lock to guarantee that the
ata_port stays around for the duration of eh.

sendmsg() (or sendto()) with MSG_FASTOPEN is a combo of connect(2)
and write(2). The application should replace connect() with it to
send data in the opening SYN packet.
For blocking socket, sendmsg() blocks until all the data are buffered
locally and the handshake is completed like connect() call. It
returns similar errno like connect() if the TCP handshake fails.
For non-blocking socket, it returns the number of bytes queued (and
transmitted in the SYN-data packet) if cookie is available. If cookie
is not available, it transmits a data-less SYN packet with Fast Open
cookie request option and returns -EINPROGRESS like connect().
Using MSG_FASTOPEN on connecting or connected socket will result in
simlar errno like repeating connect() calls. Therefore the application
should only use this flag on new sockets.
The buffer size of sendmsg() is independent of the MSS of the connection.

This patch implements sending SYN-data in tcp_connect(). The data is
from tcp_sendmsg() with flag MSG_FASTOPEN (implemented in a later patch).
The length of the cookie in tcp_fastopen_req, init'd to 0, controls the
type of the SYN. If the cookie is not cached (len==0), the host sends
data-less SYN with Fast Open cookie request option to solicit a cookie
from the remote. If cookie is not available (len > 0), the host sends
a SYN-data with Fast Open cookie option. If cookie length is negative,
the SYN will not include any Fast Open option (for fall back operations).
To deal with middleboxes that may drop SYN with data or experimental TCP
option, the SYN-data is only sent once. SYN retransmits do not include
data or Fast Open options. The connection will fall back to regular TCP
handshake.

Add a way to have different functions calling different trampolines.
If a ftrace_ops wants regs saved on the return, then have only the
functions with ops registered to save regs. Functions registered by
other ops would not be affected, unless the functions overlap.
If one ftrace_ops registered functions A, B and C and another ops
registered fucntions to save regs on A, and D, then only functions
A and D would be saving regs. Function B and C would work as normal.
Although A is registered by both ops: normal and saves regs; this is fine
as saving the regs is needed to satisfy one of the ops that calls it
but the regs are ignored by the other ops function.
x86_64 implements the full regs saving, and i386 just passes a NULL
for regs to satisfy the ftrace_ops passing. Where an arch must supply
both regs and ftrace_ops parameters, even if regs is just NULL.
It is OK for an arch to pass NULL regs. All function trace users that
require regs passing must add the flag FTRACE_OPS_FL_SAVE_REGS when
registering the ftrace_ops. If the arch does not support saving regs
then the ftrace_ops will fail to register. The flag
FTRACE_OPS_FL_SAVE_REGS_IF_SUPPORTED may be set that will prevent the
ftrace_ops from failing to register. In this case, the handler may
either check if regs is not NULL or check if ARCH_SUPPORTS_FTRACE_SAVE_REGS.
If the arch supports passing regs it will set this macro and pass regs
for ops that request them. All other archs will just pass NULL.

As the function tracer starts to get more features, the support for
theses features will spread out throughout the different architectures
over time. These features boil down to what each arch does in the
mcount trampoline (the ftrace_caller).
Currently there's two features that are not the same throughout the
archs.
1) Support to stop function tracing before the callback
2) passing of the ftrace ops
Both of these require placing an indirect function to support the
features if the mcount trampoline does not.
On a side note, for all architectures, when more than one callback
is registered to the function tracer, an intermediate 'list' function
is called by the mcount trampoline to iterate through the callbacks
that are registered.
Instead of making a separate function for each of these features,
and requiring several indirect calls, just use the single 'list' function
as the intermediate, to handle all cases. If an arch does not support
the 'stop function tracing' or the passing of ftrace ops, just force
it to use the list function that will handle the features required.
This makes the code cleaner and simpler and removes a lot of
#ifdefs in the code.

Currently the function trace callback receives only the ip and parent_ip
of the function that it traced. It would be more powerful to also return
the ops that registered the function as well. This allows the same function
to act differently depending on what ftrace_ops registered it.

Commit a7a20d1039 ("sd: limit the scope of the async probe domain")
make the SCSI device probing run device discovery in it's own async
domain.
However, as a result, the partition detection was no longer synchronized
by async_synchronize_full() (which, despite the name, only synchronizes
the global async space, not all of them). Which in turn meant that
"wait_for_device_probe()" would not wait for the SCSI partitions to be
parsed.
And "wait_for_device_probe()" was what the boot time init code relied on
for mounting the root filesystem.
Now, most people never noticed this, because not only is it
timing-dependent, but modern distributions all use initrd. So the root
filesystem isn't actually on a disk at all. And then before they
actually mount the final disk filesystem, they will have loaded the
scsi-wait-scan module, which not only does the expected
wait_for_device_probe(), but also does scsi_complete_async_scans().
[ Side note: scsi_complete_async_scans() had also been partially broken,
but that was fixed in commit 43a8d39d01 ("fix async probe
regression"), so that same commit a7a20d1039 had actually broken
setups even if you used scsi-wait-scan explicitly ]
Solve this problem by just moving the scsi_complete_async_scans() call
into wait_for_device_probe(). Everybody who wants to wait for device
probing to finish really wants the SCSI probing to complete, so there's
no reason not to do this.
So now "wait_for_device_probe()" really does what the name implies, and
properly waits for device probing to finish. This also removes the now
unnecessary extra calls to scsi_complete_async_scans().
