Based on the following report from Smatch tool, make sure we have a valid drvdata before we dereference it to find the real dev. The patch 21d26b905c05: "coresight: etm: Clean up device specific data" from May 22, 2019, leads to the following Smatch complaint: ./drivers/hwtracing/coresight/coresight-etm3x.c:460 etm_get_trace_id() warn: variable dereferenced before check 'drvdata' (see line 458) ./drivers/hwtracing/coresight/coresight-etm3x.c 457 int trace_id = -1; 458 struct device *etm_dev = drvdata->csdev->dev.parent; ^^^^^^^^^ New dereference 459 460 if (!drvdata) ^^^^^^^^ Checked too late. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
