Linking the ARM64 defconfig kernel with LLVM lld fails with the error: ld.lld: error: unknown argument: -p Makefile:1015: recipe for target 'vmlinux' failed Without this flag, the ARM64 defconfig kernel successfully links with lld and boots on Dragonboard 410c. After digging through binutils source and changelogs, it turns out that -p is only relevant to ancient binutils installations targeting 32-bit ARM. binutils accepts -p for AArch64 too, but it's always been undocumented and silently ignored. A comment in ld/emultempl/aarch64elf.em explains that it's "Only here for backwards compatibility". Since this flag is a no-op on ARM64, we can safely drop it. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
