There is a bug in regards to deferred probing within the drivers core that causes GPIO-driver to suspend after its users. The bug appears if GPIO-driver probe is getting deferred, which happens after introducing dependency on PINCTRL-driver for the GPIO-driver by defining "gpio-ranges" property in device-tree. The bug in the drivers core is old (more than 4 years now) and is well known, unfortunately there is no easy fix for it. The good news is that we can workaround the deferred probe issue by changing GPIO / PINCTRL drivers registration order and hence by moving PINCTRL driver registration to the arch_init level and GPIO to the subsys_init. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
