Johannes Sixt d9244ecf4f Windows: do not treat a path with backslashes as a remote's nick name
On Windows, the remote repository name in, e.g., `git fetch foo\bar`
is clearly not a nickname for a configured remote repository. However,
the function valid_remote_nick() does not account for backslashes.
Use is_dir_sep() to check for both slashes and backslashes on Windows.

This was discovered while playing with Duy's patches that warn after
fopen() failures. The functions that read the branches and remotes
files are protected by a valid_remote_nick() check. Without this
change, a Windows style absolute path is incorrectly regarded as
nickname and is concatenated to a prefix and used with fopen(). This
triggers warnings because a colon in a path name is not allowed:

brian m. carlson bc83266abe Convert lookup_commit* to struct object_id
Convert lookup_commit, lookup_commit_or_die,
lookup_commit_reference, and lookup_commit_reference_gently to take
struct object_id arguments.

Introduce a temporary in parse_object buffer in order to convert this
function.  This is required since in order to convert parse_object and
parse_object_buffer, lookup_commit_reference_gently and
lookup_commit_or_die would need to be converted.  Not introducing a
temporary would therefore require that lookup_commit_or_die take a
struct object_id *, but lookup_commit would take unsigned char *,
leaving a confusing and hard-to-use interface.

parse_object_buffer will lose this temporary in a later patch.

This commit was created with manual changes to commit.c, commit.h, and
object.c, plus the following semantic patch:

Jeff King 4539c218c3 remote: avoid reading $GIT_DIR config in non-repo
The "git ls-remote" command can be run outside of a
repository, but needs to look up configured remotes. The
config code is smart enough to handle this case itself, but
we also check the historical "branches" and "remotes" paths
in $GIT_DIR. The git_path() function causes us to blindly
look at ".git/remotes", even if we know we aren't in a git
repository.

For now, this is just an unlikely bug (you probably don't
have such a file if you're not in a repository), but it will
become more obvious once we merge b1ef400ee (setup_git_env:
avoid blind fall-back to ".git", 2016-10-20):

  [now]
  $ git ls-remote
  fatal: No remote configured to list refs from.

  [with b1ef400ee]
  $ git ls-remote
  fatal: BUG: setup_git_env called without repository

We can fix this by skipping these sources entirely when
we're outside of a repository.

The test is a little more complex than the demonstration
above. Rather than detect the correct behavior by parsing
the error message, we can actually set up a case where the
remote name we give is a valid repository, but b1ef400ee
would cause us to die in the configuration step.

This test doesn't fail now, but it future-proofs us for the
b1ef400ee change.

Johannes Schindelin e459b073fb remote rename: more carefully determine whether a remote is configured
One of the really nice features of the ~/.gitconfig file is that users
can override defaults by their own preferred settings for all of their
repositories.

One such default that some users like to override is whether the
"origin" remote gets auto-pruned or not. The user would simply call

	git config --global remote.origin.prune true

and from now on all "origin" remotes would be pruned automatically when
fetching into the local repository.

There is just one catch: now Git thinks that the "origin" remote is
configured, even if the repository config has no [remote "origin"]
section at all, as it does not realize that the "prune" setting was
configured globally and that there really is no "origin" remote
configured in this repository.

That is a problem e.g. when renaming a remote to a new name, when Git
may be fooled into thinking that there is already a remote of that new
name.

Let's fix this by paying more attention to *where* the remote settings
came from: if they are configured in the local repository config, we
must not overwrite them. If they were configured elsewhere, we cannot
overwrite them to begin with, as we only write the repository config.

There is only one caller of remote_is_configured() (in `git fetch`) that
may want to take remotes into account even if they were configured
outside the repository config; all other callers essentially try to
prevent the Git command from overwriting settings in the repository
config.

To accommodate that fact, the remote_is_configured() function now
requires a parameter that states whether the caller is interested in all
remotes, or only in those that were configured in the repository config.

Many thanks to Jeff King whose tireless review helped with settling for
nothing less than the current strategy.

René Scharfe a22ae753cb use strbuf_addstr() for adding constant strings to a strbuf, part 2
Replace uses of strbuf_addf() for adding strings with more lightweight
strbuf_addstr() calls.  This makes the intent clearer and avoids
potential issues with printf format specifiers.

02962d3684 already converted six cases,
this patch covers eleven more.

A semantic patch for Coccinelle is included for easier checking for
new cases that might be introduced in the future.

John Keeping 64ac39af70 push: allow pushing new branches with --force-with-lease
If there is no upstream information for a branch, it is likely that it
is newly created and can safely be pushed under the normal fast-forward
rules.  Relax the --force-with-lease check so that we do not reject
these branches immediately but rather attempt to push them as new
branches, using the null SHA-1 as the expected value.

In fact, it is already possible to push new branches using the explicit
--force-with-lease=<branch>:<expect> syntax, so all we do here is make
this behaviour the default if no explicit "expect" value is specified.

Allow the empty string to stand in for the null SHA-1 when pushing a new
branch, like we do when deleting branches.

This means that the following command ensures that `new-branch` is
created on the remote (that is, is must not already exist):

	git push --force-with-lease=new-branch: origin new-branch

We want to tell the compiler that error_buf() uses
printf()-style arguments via the __attribute__ mechanism,
but the original commit (3a429d0), forgot the trailing "__".
This happens to work with real GNUC-compatible compilers
like gcc and clang, but confuses our fallback macro in
git-compat-util.h, which only matches the official name (and
thus the build fails on compilers like Visual Studio).

Jeff King f2f12d169a remote: don't resolve HEAD in non-repository
The remote-config code wants to look at HEAD to mark the
current branch specially. But if we are not in a repository
(e.g., running "git archive --remote"), this makes no sense;
there is no HEAD to look at, and we have no current branch.

This doesn't really cause any bugs in practice (if you are
not in a repo, you probably don't have a .git/HEAD file),
but we should be more careful about triggering the refs code
at all in a non-repo. As we grow new ref backends, we would
not even know which backend to use.

Jeff King 50a6c8efa2 use st_add and st_mult for allocation size computation
If our size computation overflows size_t, we may allocate a
much smaller buffer than we expected and overflow it. It's
probably impossible to trigger an overflow in most of these
sites in practice, but it is easy enough convert their
additions and multiplications into overflow-checking
variants. This may be fixing real bugs, and it makes
auditing the code easier.

Using FLEX_ARRAY macros reduces the amount of manual
computation size we have to do. It also ensures we don't
overflow size_t, and it makes sure we write the same number
of bytes that we allocated.

Thomas Gummerer 674468b364 remote: simplify remote_is_configured()
The remote_is_configured() function allows checking whether a remote
exists or not.  The function however only works if remote_get() wasn't
called before calling it.  In addition, it only checks the configuration
for remotes, but not remotes or branches files.

Make use of the origin member of struct remote instead, which indicates
where the remote comes from.  It will be set to some value if the remote
is configured in any file in the repository, but is initialized to 0 if
the remote is only created in make_remote().

Thomas Gummerer bc60f8a77c remote: use parse_config_key
95b567c7 ("use skip_prefix to avoid repeating strings") transformed
calls using starts_with() and then skipping the length of the prefix to
skip_prefix() calls.  In remote.c there are a few calls like:

  if (starts_with(foo, "bar"))
      foo += 3

These calls weren't touched by the aformentioned commit, but can be
replaced by calls to parse_config_key(), to simplify the code and
clarify the intentions.  Do that.

The --force--with-lease push option leads to less
detailed status information than --force. In particular,
the output indicates that a reference was fast-forwarded,
even when it was force-updated.

Modify the --force-with-lease ref status logic to leverage
the --force ref status logic when the "lease" conditions
are met.

Also, enhance tests to validate output status reporting.

Knut Franke ef976395e2 http: allow selection of proxy authentication method
CURLAUTH_ANY does not work with proxies which answer unauthenticated requests
with a 307 redirect to an error page instead of a 407 listing supported
authentication methods. Therefore, allow the authentication method to be set
using the environment variable GIT_HTTP_PROXY_AUTHMETHOD or configuration
variables http.proxyAuthmethod and remote.<name>.proxyAuthmethod (in analogy
to http.proxy and remote.<name>.proxy).

The following values are supported:

* anyauth (default)
* basic
* digest
* negotiate
* ntlm

The strbuf_getline() interface allows a byte other than LF or NUL as
the line terminator, but this is only because I wrote these
codepaths anticipating that there might be a value other than NUL
and LF that could be useful when I introduced line_termination long
time ago.  No useful caller that uses other value has emerged.

By now, it is clear that the interface is overly broad without a
good reason.  Many codepaths have hardcoded preference to read
either LF terminated or NUL terminated records from their input, and
then call strbuf_getline() with LF or NUL as the third parameter.

This step introduces two thin wrappers around strbuf_getline(),
namely, strbuf_getline_lf() and strbuf_getline_nul(), and
mechanically rewrites these call sites to call either one of
them.  The changes contained in this patch are:

 * introduction of these two functions in strbuf.[ch]

 * mechanical conversion of all callers to strbuf_getline() with
   either '\n' or '\0' as the third parameter to instead call the
   respective thin wrapper.

After this step, output from "git grep 'strbuf_getline('" would
become a lot smaller.  An interim goal of this series is to make
this an empty set, so that we can have strbuf_getline_crlf() take
over the shorter name strbuf_getline().

Johannes Sixt 0fb19906b5 read_branches_file: plug a FILE* leak
The earlier rewrite f28e3ab2 (read_branches_file: simplify string handling)
of read_branches_file() lost an fclose() call. Put it back.

As on Windows files that are open cannot be removed, the leak manifests in
a failure of 'git remote rename origin origin' when the remote's URL is
specified in .git/branches/origin, because by the time that the command
attempts to remove this file, it is still open.

Jeff King 0e265a92a1 read_remotes_file: simplify string handling
The main motivation for this cleanup is to switch our
line-reading to a strbuf, which removes the use of a
fixed-size buffer (which limited the size of remote URLs).
Since we have the strbuf, we can make use of strbuf_rtrim().

While we're here, we can also simplify the parsing of each
line.  First, we can use skip_prefix() to avoid some magic
numbers.

But second, we can avoid splitting the parsing and actions
for each line into two stages. Right now we figure out which
type of line we have, set an int to a magic number,
skip any intermediate whitespace, and then act on
the resulting value based on the magic number.

Instead, let's factor the whitespace skipping into a
function. That lets us avoid the magic numbers and keep the
actions close to the parsing.

Jeff King f28e3ab231 read_branches_file: simplify string handling
This function does a lot of manual string handling, and has
some unnecessary limits. This patch cleans up a number of
things:

  1. Drop the arbitrary 1000-byte limit on the size of the
     remote name (we do not have such a limit in any of the
     other remote-reading mechanisms).

  2. Replace fgets into a fixed-size buffer with a strbuf,
     eliminating any limits on the length of the URL.

  3. Replace manual whitespace handling with strbuf_trim
     (since we now have a strbuf). This also gets rid
     of a call to strcpy, and the confusing reuse of the "p"
     pointer for multiple purposes.

  4. We currently build up the refspecs over multiple strbuf
     calls. We do this to handle the fact that the URL "frag"
     may not be present. But rather than have multiple
     conditionals, let's just default "frag" to "master".
     This lets us format the refspecs with a single xstrfmt.
     It's shorter, and easier to see what the final string
     looks like.

     We also update the misleading comment in this area (the
     local branch is named after the remote name, not after
     the branch name on the remote side).

It's a common pattern to do:

  foo = xmalloc(strlen(one) + strlen(two) + 1 + 1);
  sprintf(foo, "%s %s", one, two);

(or possibly some variant with strcpy()s or a more
complicated length computation).  We can switch these to use
xstrfmt, which is shorter, involves less error-prone manual
computation, and removes many sprintf and strcpy calls which
make it harder to audit the code for real buffer overflows.

Michael Haggerty 2b2a5be394 each_ref_fn: change to take an object_id parameter
Change typedef each_ref_fn to take a "const struct object_id *oid"
parameter instead of "const unsigned char *sha1".

To aid this transition, implement an adapter that can be used to wrap
old-style functions matching the old typedef, which is now called
"each_ref_sha1_fn"), and make such functions callable via the new
interface. This requires the old function and its cb_data to be
wrapped in a "struct each_ref_fn_sha1_adapter", and that object to be
used as the cb_data for an adapter function, each_ref_fn_adapter().

This is an enormous diff, but most of it consists of simple,
mechanical changes to the sites that call any of the "for_each_ref"
family of functions. Subsequent to this change, the call sites can be
rewritten one by one to use the new interface.

Jeff King e291c75a95 remote.c: add branch_get_push
In a triangular workflow, the place you pull from and the
place you push to may be different. As we have
branch_get_upstream for the former, this patch adds
branch_get_push for the latter (and as the former implements
@{upstream}, so will this implement @{push} in a future
patch).

Note that the memory-handling for the return value bears
some explanation. Some code paths require allocating a new
string, and some let us return an existing string. We should
provide a consistent interface to the caller, so it knows
whether to free the result or not.

We could do so by xstrdup-ing any existing strings, and
having the caller always free. But that makes us
inconsistent with branch_get_upstream, so we would prefer to
simply take ownership of the resulting string. We do so by
storing it inside the "struct branch", just as we do with
the upstream refname (in that case we compute it when the
branch is created, but there's no reason not to just fill
it in lazily in this case).

Jeff King 979cb245e2 remote.c: return upstream name from stat_tracking_info
After calling stat_tracking_info, callers often want to
print the name of the upstream branch (in addition to the
tracking count). To do this, they have to access
branch->merge->dst[0] themselves. This is not wrong, as the
return value from stat_tracking_info tells us whether we
have an upstream branch or not. But it is a bit leaky, as we
make an assumption about how it calculated the upstream
name.

Instead, let's add an out-parameter that lets the caller
know the upstream name we found.

As a bonus, we can get rid of the unusual tri-state return
from the function. We no longer need to use it to
differentiate between "no tracking config" and "tracking ref
does not exist" (since you can check the upstream_name for
that), so we can just use the usual 0/-1 convention for
success/error.

Jeff King 1ca41a1932 remote.c: untangle error logic in branch_get_upstream
The error-diagnosis logic in branch_get_upstream was copied
straight from sha1_name.c in the previous commit. However,
because we check all error cases and upfront and then later
diagnose them, the logic is a bit tangled. In particular:

  - if branch->merge[0] is NULL, we may end up dereferencing
    it for an error message (in practice, it should never be
    NULL, so this is probably not a triggerable bug).

  - We may enter the code path because branch->merge[0]->dst
    is NULL, but we then start our error diagnosis by
    checking whether our local branch exists. But that is
    only relevant to diagnosing missing merge config, not a
    missing tracking ref; our diagnosis may hide the real
    problem.

Instead, let's just use a sequence of "if" blocks to check
for each error type, diagnose it, and return NULL.

When the previous commit introduced the branch_get_upstream
helper, there was one call-site that could not be converted:
the one in sha1_name.c, which gives detailed error messages
for each possible failure.

Let's teach the helper to optionally report these specific
errors. This lets us convert another callsite, and means we
can use the helper in other locations that want to give the
same error messages.

The logic and error messages come straight from sha1_name.c,
with the exception that we start each error with a lowercase
letter, as is our usual style (note that a few tests need
updated as a result).

Jeff King da66b2743c remote.c: provide per-branch pushremote name
When remote.c loads its config, it records the
branch.*.pushremote for the current branch along with the
global remote.pushDefault value, and then binds them into a
single value: the default push for the current branch. We
then pass this value (which may be NULL) to remote_get_1
when looking up a remote for push.

This has a few downsides:

  1. It's confusing. The early-binding of the "current
     value" led to bugs like the one fixed by 98b406f
     (remote: handle pushremote config in any order,
     2014-02-24). And the fact that pushremotes fall back to
     ordinary remotes is not explicit at all; it happens
     because remote_get_1 cannot tell the difference between
     "we are not asking for the push remote" and "there is
     no push remote configured".

  2. It throws away intermediate data. After read_config()
     finishes, we have no idea what the value of
     remote.pushDefault was, because the string has been
     overwritten by the current branch's
     branch.*.pushremote.

  3. It doesn't record other data. We don't note the
     branch.*.pushremote value for anything but the current
     branch.

Let's make this more like the fetch-remote config. We'll
record the pushremote for each branch, and then explicitly
compute the correct remote for the current branch at the
time of reading.

Jeff King 9e3751d443 remote.c: drop "remote" pointer from "struct branch"
When we create each branch struct, we fill in the
"remote_name" field from the config, and then fill in the
actual "remote" field (with a "struct remote") based on that
name. However, it turns out that nobody really cares about
the latter field. The only two sites that access it at all
are:

  1. git-merge, which uses it to notice when the branch does
     not have a remote defined. But we can easily replace this
     with looking at remote_name instead.

  2. remote.c itself, when setting up the @{upstream} merge
     config. But we don't need to save the "remote" in the
     "struct branch" for that; we can just look it up for
     the duration of the operation.

So there is no need to have both fields; they are redundant
with each other (the struct remote contains the name, or you
can look up the struct from the name). It would be nice to
simplify this, especially as we are going to add matching
pushremote config in a future patch (and it would be nice to
keep them consistent).

So which one do we keep and which one do we get rid of?

If we had a lot of callers accessing the struct, it would be
more efficient to keep it (since you have to do a lookup to
go from the name to the struct, but not vice versa). But we
don't have a lot of callers; we have exactly one, so
efficiency doesn't matter. We can decide this based on
simplicity and readability.

And the meaning of the struct value is somewhat unclear. Is
it always the remote matching remote_name? If remote_name is
NULL (i.e., no per-branch config), does the struct fall back
to the "origin" remote, or is it also NULL? These questions
will get even more tricky with pushremotes, whose fallback
behavior is more complicated. So let's just store the name,
which pretty clearly represents the branch.*.remote config.
Any lookup or fallback behavior can then be implemented in
helper functions.

Jeff King ee2499fe38 remote.c: refactor setup of branch->merge list
When we call branch_get() to lookup or create a "struct
branch", we make sure the "merge" field is filled in so that
callers can access it. But the conditions under which we do
so are a little confusing, and can lead to two funny
situations:

  1. If there's no branch.*.remote config, we cannot provide
     branch->merge (because it is really just an application
     of branch.*.merge to our remote's refspecs). But
     branch->merge_nr may be non-zero, leading callers to be
     believe they can access branch->merge (e.g., in
     branch_merge_matches and elsewhere).

     It doesn't look like this can cause a segfault in
     practice, as most code paths dealing with merge config
     will bail early if there is no remote defined. But it's
     a bit of a dangerous construct.

     We can fix this by setting merge_nr to "0" explicitly
     when we realize that we have no merge config. Note that
     merge_nr also counts the "merge_name" fields (which we
     _do_ have; that's how merge_nr got incremented), so we
     will "lose" access to them, in the sense that we forget
     how many we had. But no callers actually care; we use
     merge_name only while iteratively reading the config,
     and then convert it to the final "merge" form the first
     time somebody calls branch_get().

  2. We set up the "merge" field every time branch_get is
     called, even if it has already been done. This leaks
     memory.

     It's not a big deal in practice, since most code paths
     will access only one branch, or perhaps each branch
     only one time. But if you want to be pathological, you
     can leak arbitrary memory with:

       yes @{upstream} | head -1000 | git rev-list --stdin

     We can fix this by skipping setup when branch->merge is
     already non-NULL.

In addition to those two fixes, this patch pushes the "do we
need to setup merge?" logic down into set_merge, where it is
a bit easier to follow.

Jeff King e41bf352e3 remote.c: drop default_remote_name variable
When we read the remote config from disk, we update a
default_remote_name variable if we see branch.*.remote
config for the current branch. This isn't wrong, or even all
that complicated, but it is a bit simpler (because it
reduces our overall state) to just lazily compute the
default when we need it.

The ulterior motive here is that the push config uses a
similar structure, and _is_ much more complicated as a
result. That will be simplified in a future patch, and it's
more readable if the logic for remotes and push-remotes
matches.

Note that we also used default_remote_name as a signal that
the remote config has been loaded; after this patch, we now
use an explicit flag.

Ronnie Sahlberg 7695d118e5 refs.c: change resolve_ref_unsafe reading argument to be a flags field
resolve_ref_unsafe takes a boolean argument for reading (a nonexistent ref
resolves successfully for writing but not for reading).  Change this to be
a flags field instead, and pass the new constant RESOLVE_REF_READING when
we want this behaviour.

While at it, swap two of the arguments in the function to put output
arguments at the end.  As a nice side effect, this ensures that we can
catch callers that were unaware of the new API so they can be audited.

Give the wrapper functions resolve_refdup and read_ref_full the same
treatment for consistency.

Junio C Hamano 05e73682cd checkout: report upstream correctly even with loosely defined branch.*.merge
When checking out a branch that is set to build on top of another
branch (often, a remote-tracking branch), "git checkout" reports how
your work relates to the other branch, e.g.

    Your branch is behind 'origin/master', and can be fast-forwarded.

Back when this feature was introduced, this was only done for
branches that build on remote-tracking branches, but 5e6e2b48 (Make
local branches behave like remote branches when --tracked,
2009-04-01) added support to give the same report for branches that
build on other local branches (i.e. branches whose branch.*.remote
variables are set to '.').  Unlike the support for the branches
building on remote-tracking branches, however, this did not take
into account the fact that branch.*.merge configuration is allowed
to record a shortened branch name.

When branch.*.merge is set to 'master' (not 'refs/heads/master'),
i.e. "my branch builds on the local 'master' branch", this caused
"git checkout" to report:

    Your branch is based on 'master', but the upstream is gone.

The upstream is our repository and is definitely not gone, so this
output is nonsense.

The fix is fairly obvious; just like the branch name is DWIMed when
"git pull" merges from the 'master' branch without complaint on such
a branch, the name of the branch the current branch builds upon
needs to be DWIMed the same way.

Stefan Beller 81c3ce3cdc prepare_revision_walk(): check for return value in all places
Even the documentation tells us:

	You should check if it returns any error (non-zero return
	code) and if it does not, you can start using get_revision()
	to do the iteration.

In preparation for this commit, I grepped all occurrences of
prepare_revision_walk and added error messages, when there were none.

Patrick Reynolds d0da003d5b use a hashmap to make remotes faster
Remotes are stored as an array, so looking one up or adding one without
duplication is an O(n) operation.  Reading an entire config file full of
remotes is O(n^2) in the number of remotes.  For a repository with tens of
thousands of remotes, the running time can hit multiple minutes.

Hash tables are way faster.  So we add a hashmap from remote name to
struct remote and use it for all lookups.  The time to add a new remote to
a repo that already has 50,000 remotes drops from ~2 minutes to < 1
second.

We retain the old array of remotes so iterators proceed in config-file
order.

Jeff King 95b567c7c3 use skip_prefix to avoid repeating strings
It's a common idiom to match a prefix and then skip past it
with strlen, like:

  if (starts_with(foo, "bar"))
	  foo += strlen("bar");

This avoids magic numbers, but means we have to repeat the
string (and there is no compiler check that we didn't make a
typo in one of the strings).

We can use skip_prefix to handle this case without repeating
ourselves.

Jeff King fa3f60b783 use xstrfmt in favor of manual size calculations
In many parts of the code, we do an ugly and error-prone
malloc like:

  const char *fmt = "something %s";
  buf = xmalloc(strlen(foo) + 10 + 1);
  sprintf(buf, fmt, foo);

This makes the code brittle, and if we ever get the
allocation wrong, is a potential heap overflow. Let's
instead favor xstrfmt, which handles the allocation
automatically, and makes the code shorter and more readable.

Carlos Martín Nieto e6f637122e fetch: handle overlaping refspecs on --prune
We need to consider that a remote-tracking branch may match more than
one rhs of a fetch refspec. In such a case, it is not enough to stop at
the first match but look at all of the matches in order to determine
whether a head is stale.

To this goal, introduce a variant of query_refspecs which returns all of
the matching refspecs and loop over those answers to check for
staleness.

Jeff King ba928c13d7 push: detect local refspec errors early
When pushing, we do not even look at our push refspecs until
after we have made contact with the remote receive-pack and
gotten its list of refs. This means that we may go to some
work, including asking the user to log in, before realizing
we have simple errors like "git push origin matser".

We cannot catch all refspec problems, since fully evaluating
the refspecs requires knowing what the remote side has. But
we can do a quick sanity check of the local side and catch a
few simple error cases.

Jeff King 471fd3fe41 match_explicit_lhs: allow a "verify only" mode
The match_explicit_lhs function has all of the logic
necessary to verify the refspecs without actually doing any
work. This patch lets callers pass a NULL "match" pointer to
indicate they want a "verify only" operation.

For the most part, we just need to avoid writing to the NULL
pointer. However, we also have to refactor the
try_explicit_object_name sub-function; it indicates success by
allocating and returning a new ref. Instead, we give it an
"out" parameter for the match and return a numeric status.

Jeff King 98b406f3ad remote: handle pushremote config in any order
The remote we push can be defined either by
remote.pushdefault or by branch.*.pushremote for the current
branch. The order in which they appear in the config file
should not matter to precedence (which should be to prefer
the branch-specific config).

The current code parses the config linearly and uses a
single string to store both values, overwriting any
previous value. Thus, config like:

  [branch "master"]
  pushremote = foo
  [remote]
  pushdefault = bar

erroneously ends up pushing to "bar" from the master branch.

We can fix this by storing both values and resolving the
correct value after all config is read.

We used to use two separate rules for the normal ref resolution
dwimming and dwimming done to decide which remote ref to grab.  The
third parameter to refname_match() selected which rules to use.

When these two rules were harmonized in

    2011-11-04 dd621df9cd refs DWIMmery: use the same rule for both "git fetch" and others

, ref_fetch_rules was #defined to avoid potential breakages for
in-flight topics.

It is now safe to remove the backwards-compatibility code, so remove
refname_match()'s third parameter, make ref_rev_parse_rules private to
refs.c, and remove ref_fetch_rules entirely.

Since f2690487 (fetch: opportunistically update tracking refs,
2013-05-11), we stopped taking a non-storing refspec given on the
command line of "git fetch" literally, and instead started mapping
it via remote.$name.fetch refspecs.  This allows

    $ git fetch origin master

from the 'origin' repository, which is configured with

    [remote "origin"]
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*

to update refs/remotes/origin/master with the result, as if the
command line were

    $ git fetch origin +master:refs/remotes/origin/master

to reduce surprises and improve usability.  Before that change, a
refspec on the command line without a colon was only to fetch the
history and leave the result in FETCH_HEAD, without updating the
remote-tracking branches.

When you are simulating a fetch from you by your mothership with a
push by you into your mothership, instead of having:

    [remote "satellite"]
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/satellite/*

on the mothership repository and running:

    mothership$ git fetch satellite

you would have:

    [remote "mothership"]
        push = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/satellite/*

on your satellite machine, and run:

    satellite$ git push mothership

Because we so far did not make the corresponding change to the push
side, this command:

    satellite$ git push mothership master

does _not_ allow you on the satellite to only push 'master' out but
still to the usual destination (i.e. refs/remotes/satellite/master).

Implement the logic to map an unqualified refspec given on the
command line via the remote.$name.push refspec.  This will bring a
bit more symmetry between "fetch" and "push".

Michael Haggerty f096e6e826 fetch: improve the error messages emitted for conflicting refspecs
If we find two refspecs that want to update the same local reference,
emit an error message that is more informative based on whether one of
the conflicting refspecs is an opportunistic update during a fetch
with explicit command-line refspecs.  And especially, do not die if an
opportunistic reference update conflicts with an express wish of the
user; rather, just emit a warning and skip the opportunistic reference
update.

Michael Haggerty 09ea1f8e0e ref_remove_duplicates(): avoid redundant bisection
The old code called string_list_lookup(), and if that failed called
string_list_insert(), thus doing the bisection search through the
string list twice in the latter code path.

Instead, just call string_list_insert() right away.  If an entry for
that peer reference name already existed, then its util pointer is
always non-NULL.

Of course this doesn't change the fact that the repeated
string_list_insert() calls make the function scale like O(N^2) if the
input reference list is not already approximately sorted.

Our default_remote_name starts at "origin", but may be
overridden by the config file. In the former case, we
allocate a new string, but in the latter case, we point to
the remote name in an existing "struct branch".

This gives the variable inconsistent free() semantics (we
are sometimes responsible for freeing the string and
sometimes pointing to somebody else's storage), and causes a
small leak when the allocated string is overridden by
config.

We can fix both by simply dropping the extra copy and
pointing to the string literal.

But this will not work if there is no change between the current
branch and its upstream. Always report upstream tracking info
even if there is no difference, so that "git status" is consistent
for checking tracking info for current branch. E.g.

    ...

    $ git status -bs
    ## feature1...github/feature1
    ...

    $ git checkout feature1
    Already on 'feature1'
    Your branch is up-to-date with 'github/feature1'.

Jiang Xin f2e087395b branch: report invalid tracking branch as gone
Command "git branch -vv" will report tracking branches, but invalid
tracking branches are also reported. This is because the function
stat_tracking_info() can not distinguish invalid tracking branch
from other cases which it would not like to report, such as
there is no upstream settings at all, or nothing is changed between
one branch and its upstream.

Junio suggested missing upstream should be reported [1] like:

    $ git branch -v -v
      master    e67ac84 initial
    * topic     3fc0f2a [topicbase: gone] topic

    $ git status
    # On branch topic
    # Your branch is based on 'topicbase', but the upstream is gone.
    #   (use "git branch --unset-upstream" to fixup)
    ...

    $ git status -b -s
    ## topic...topicbase [gone]
    ...

In order to do like that, we need to distinguish these three cases
(i.e. no tracking, with configured but no longer valid tracking, and
with tracking) in function stat_tracking_info(). So the refactored
function stat_tracking_info() has three return values: -1 (with "gone"
base), 0 (no base), and 1 (with base).

If the caller does not like to report tracking info when nothing
changed between the branch and its upstream, simply checks if
num_theirs and num_ours are both 0.

Junio C Hamano 91048a9537 push --force-with-lease: implement logic to populate old_sha1_expect[]
This plugs the push_cas_option data collected by the command line
option parser to the transport system with a new function
apply_push_cas(), which is called after match_push_refs() has
already been called.

At this point, we know which remote we are talking to, and what
remote refs we are going to update, so we can fill in the details
that may have been missing from the command line, such as

 (1) what abbreviated refname the user gave us matches the actual
     refname at the remote; and

 (2) which remote-tracking branch in our local repository to read
     the value of the object to expect at the remote.

to populate the old_sha1_expect[] field of each of the remote ref.
As stated in the documentation, the use of remote-tracking branch
as the default is a tentative one, and we may come up with a better
logic as we gain experience.

Still nobody uses this information, which is the topic of the next
patch.

Junio C Hamano 28f5d17611 remote.c: add command line option parser for "--force-with-lease"
Update "git push" and "git send-pack" to parse this commnd line
option.

The intended sematics is:

 * "--force-with-lease" alone, without specifying the details, will
   protect _all_ remote refs that are going to be updated by
   requiring their current value to be the same as some reasonable
   default, unless otherwise specified;

 * "--force-with-lease=refname", without specifying the expected
   value, will protect that refname, if it is going to be updated,
   by requiring its current value to be the same as some reasonable
   default.

 * "--force-with-lease=refname:value" will protect that refname, if
   it is going to be updated, by requiring its current value to be
   the same as the specified value; and

 * "--no-force-with-lease" will cancel all the previous --force-with-lease on the
   command line.

For now, "some reasonable default" is tentatively defined as "the
value of the remote-tracking branch we have for the ref of the
remote being updated", and it is an error if we do not have such a
remote-tracking branch.  But this is known to be fragile, its use is
not yet recommended, and hopefully we will find more reasonable
default as we gain experience with this feature.  The manual marks
the feature as experimental unless the expected value is specified
explicitly for this reason.

Because the command line options are parsed _before_ we know which
remote we are pushing to, there needs further processing to the
parsed data after we instantiate the transport object to:

 * expand "refname" given by the user to a full refname to be
   matched with the list of "struct ref" used in match_push_refs()
   and set_ref_status_for_push(); and

 * learning the actual local ref that is the remote-tracking branch
   for the specified remote ref.

Further, some processing need to be deferred until we find the set
of remote refs and match_push_refs() returns in order to find the
ones that need to be checked after explicit ones have been processed
for "--force-with-lease" (no specific details).

These post-processing will be the topic of the next patch.

This option was originally called "cas" (for "compare and swap"),
the name which nobody liked because it was too technical.  The
second attempt called it "lockref" (because it is conceptually like
pushing after taking a lock) but the word "lock" was hated because
it implied that it may reject push by others, which is not the way
this option works.  This round calls it "force-with-lease".  You
assume you took the lease on the ref when you fetched to decide what
the rebased history should be, and you can push back only if the
lease has not been broken.

Michael Schubert 737c5a9cde fetch: make --prune configurable
Without "git fetch --prune", remote-tracking branches for a branch
the other side already has removed will stay forever.  Some people
want to always run "git fetch --prune".

To accommodate users who want to either prune always or when fetching
from a particular remote, add two new configuration variables
"fetch.prune" and "remote.<name>.prune":

 - "fetch.prune" allows to enable prune for all fetch operations.

 - "remote.<name>.prune" allows to change the behaviour per remote.

The latter will naturally override the former, and the --[no-]prune
option from the command line will override the configured default.

Since --prune is a potentially destructive operation (Git doesn't
keep reflogs for deleted references yet), we don't want to prune
without users consent, so this configuration will not be on by
default.

The definition of "struct ref" in "cache.h", a header file so
central to the system, always confused me.  This structure is not
about the local ref used by sha1-name API to name local objects.

It is what refspecs are expanded into, after finding out what refs
the other side has, to define what refs are updated after object
transfer succeeds to what values.  It belongs to "remote.h" together
with "struct refspec".

While we are at it, also move the types and functions related to the
Git transport connection to a new header file connect.h

Brandon Casey f1bd15ab15 remote.c: avoid O(m*n) behavior in match_push_refs
When pushing using a matching refspec or a pattern refspec, each ref
in the local repository must be paired with a ref advertised by the
remote server.  This is accomplished by using the refspec to transform
the name of the local ref into the name it should have in the remote
repository, and then performing a linear search through the list of
remote refs to see if the remote ref was advertised by the remote
system.

Each of these lookups has O(n) complexity and makes match_push_refs()
be an O(m*n) operation, where m is the number of local refs and n is
the number of remote refs.  If there are many refs 100,000+, then this
ref matching can take a significant amount of time.  Let's prepare an
index of the remote refs to allow searching in O(log n) time and
reduce the complexity of match_push_refs() to O(m log n).

We prepare the index lazily so that it is only created when necessary.
So, there should be no impact when _not_ using a matching or pattern
refspec, i.e. when pushing using only explicit refspecs.

Dry-run push of a repository with 121,913 local and remote refs:

        before     after
real    1m40.582s  0m0.804s
user    1m39.914s  0m0.515s
sys     0m0.125s   0m0.106s

The creation of the index has overhead.  So, if there are very few
local refs, then it could take longer to create the index than it
would have taken to just perform n linear lookups into the remote
ref space.  Using the index should provide some improvement when
the number of local refs is roughly greater than the log of the
number of remote refs (i.e. m >= log n).  The pathological case is
when there is a single local ref and very many remote refs.

Dry-run push of a repository with 121,913 remote refs and a single
local ref:

        before    after
real    0m0.525s  0m0.566s
user    0m0.243s  0m0.279s
sys     0m0.075s  0m0.099s

Using an index takes 41 ms longer, or roughly 7.8% longer.

Jeff King measured a no-op push of a single ref into a remote repo
with 370,000 refs:

        before    after
real    0m1.087s  0m1.156s
user    0m1.344s  0m1.412s
sys     0m0.288s  0m0.284s

Using an index takes 69 ms longer, or roughly 6.3% longer.

None of the measurements above required transferring any objects to
the remote repository.  If the push required transferring objects and
updating the refs in the remote repository, the impact of preparing
the search index would be even smaller.

A similar operation is performed in the reverse direction when pruning
using a matching or pattern refspec.  Let's avoid O(m*n) behavior in
the same way by lazily preparing an index on the local refs.

Ramkumar Ramachandra f24f715e05 remote.c: introduce a way to have different remotes for fetch/push
Currently, do_push() in push.c calls remote_get(), which gets the
configured remote for fetching and pushing.  Replace this call with a
call to pushremote_get() instead, a new function that will return the
remote configured specifically for pushing.  This function tries to
work with the string pushremote_name, before falling back to the
codepath of remote_get().  This patch has no visible impact, but
serves to enable future patches to introduce configuration variables
to set pushremote_name.  For example, you can now do the following in
handle_config():

    if (!strcmp(key, "remote.pushdefault"))
       git_config_string(&pushremote_name, key, value);

Then, pushes will automatically go to the remote specified by
remote.pushdefault.

In ancient times, we used to disallow the same source ref to be
pushed to more than one places, e.g. "git push there master:master
master:naster" was disallowed.  We later lifted this restriction
with db27ee6392 (send-pack: allow the same source to be pushed
more than once., 2005-08-06) and there no longer is anybody that
sets peer_ref for the source side of the ref list in the push
codepath since then.

Remove one leftover no-op in a loop that iterates over the source
side of ref list (i.e. our local ref) to see if it can/should be
sent to a matching destination ref while skipping ones that is
marked with peer_ref (which will never exist, so we do not skip
anything).

When we push to update an existing ref, if:

 * the object at the tip of the remote is not a commit; or
 * the object we are pushing is not a commit,

it won't be correct to suggest to fetch, integrate and push again,
as the old and new objects will not "merge".  We should explain that
the push must be forced when there is a non-committish object is
involved in such a case.

If we do not have the current object at the tip of the remote, we do
not even know that object, when fetched, is something that can be
merged.  In such a case, suggesting to pull first just like
non-fast-forward case may not be technically correct, but in
practice, most such failures are seen when you try to push your work
to a branch without knowing that somebody else already pushed to
update the same branch since you forked, so "pull first" would work
as a suggestion most of the time.  And if the object at the tip is
not a commit, "pull first" will fail, without making any permanent
damage.  As a side effect, it also makes the error message the user
will get during the next "push" attempt easier to understand, now
the user is aware that a non-commit object is involved.

In these cases, the current code already rejects such a push on the
client end, but we used the same error and advice messages as the
ones used when rejecting a non-fast-forward push, i.e. pull from
there and integrate before pushing again.

Introduce new rejection reasons and reword the messages
appropriately.

the particular update was "forced".  Rename it to "forced_update",
and move the code to assign to it around to further clarify how it
is used and what it is used for.

When pushing to update a branch with a commit that is not a
descendant of the commit at the tip, a wrong message "already
exists" was given, instead of the correct "non-fast-forward", if we
do not have the object sitting in the destination repository at the
tip of the ref we are updating.

The primary cause of the bug is that the check in a new helper
function is_forwardable() assumed both old and new objects are
available and can be checked, which is not always the case.

The way the caller uses the result of this function is also wrong.
If the helper says "we do not want to let this push go through", the
caller unconditionally translates it into "we blocked it because the
destination already exists", which is not true at all in this case.

Fix this by doing these three things:

 * Remove unnecessary not_forwardable from "struct ref"; it is only
   used inside set_ref_status_for_push();

 * Make "refs/tags/" the only hierarchy that cannot be replaced
   without --force;

 * Remove the misguided attempt to force that everything that
   updates an existing ref has to be a commit outside "refs/tags/"
   hierarchy.

The policy last one tried to implement may later be resurrected and
extended to ensure fast-forwardness (defined as "not losing
objects", extending from the traditional "not losing commits from
the resulting history") when objects that are not commit are
involved (e.g. an annotated tag in hierarchies outside refs/tags),
but such a logic belongs to "is this a fast-forward?" check that is
done by ref_newer(); is_forwardable(), which is now removed, was not
the right place to do so.

Junio C Hamano f8fb971eac fetch: ignore wildcarded refspecs that update local symbolic refs
In a repository cloned from somewhere else, you typically have a
symbolic ref refs/remotes/origin/HEAD pointing at the 'master'
remote-tracking ref that is next to it.  When fetching into such a
repository with "git fetch --mirror" from another repository that
was similarly cloned, the implied wildcard refspec refs/*:refs/*
will end up asking to update refs/remotes/origin/HEAD with the
object at refs/remotes/origin/HEAD at the remote side, while asking
to update refs/remotes/origin/master the same way.  Depending on the
order the two updates happen, the latter one would find that the
value of the ref before it is updated has changed from what the code
expects.

When the user asks to update the underlying ref via the symbolic ref
explicitly without using a wildcard refspec, e.g. "git fetch $there
refs/heads/master:refs/remotes/origin/HEAD", we should still let him
do so, but when expanding wildcard refs, it will result in a more
intuitive outcome if we simply ignore local symbolic refs.

As the purpose of the symbolic ref refs/remotes/origin/HEAD is to
follow the ref it points at (e.g. refs/remotes/origin/master), its
value would change when the underlying ref is updated.

Earlier commit da3efdb (receive-pack: detect aliased updates which
can occur with symrefs, 2010-04-19) fixed a similar issue for "git
push".

Jeff King 491e3075a2 status: respect advice.statusHints for ahead/behind advice
If the user has unset advice.statusHints, we already
suppress the "use git reset to..." hints in each stanza. The
new "use git push to publish..." hint is the same type of
hint. Let's respect statusHints for it, rather than making
the user set yet another advice flag.

Chris Rorvick 80054cf9d5 push: clarify rejection of update to non-commit-ish
Pushes must already (by default) update to a commit-ish due to the fast-
forward check in set_ref_status_for_push().  But rejecting for not being
a fast-forward suggests the situation can be resolved with a merge.
Flag these updates (i.e., to a blob or a tree) as not forwardable so the
user is presented with more appropriate advice.

While updating *from* a tag object is potentially destructive, updating
*to* a tag is not.  Additionally, a push to the refs/tags/ hierarchy is
already excluded from fast-forwarding, and refs/heads/ is protected from
anything but commit objects by a check in write_ref_sha1().  Thus
someone fast-forwarding to a tag is probably not doing so by accident.
Since updating to a tag is benign and unlikely to cause confusion, allow
it in case someone finds the behavior useful.

Jeff King 5742c82ba7 push: don't guess at qualifying remote refs on deletion
When we try to push a ref and the right-hand side of the
refspec does not find a match, we try to create it. If it is
not fully qualified, we try to guess where it would go in
the refs hierarchy based on the left-hand source side. If
the source side is not a ref, then we give up and give a
long explanatory message.

For deletions, however, this doesn't make any sense. We
would never want to create on the remote side, and if an
unqualified ref can't be matched, it is simply an error. The
current code handles this already because the left-hand side
is empty, and therefore does not give us a hint as to where
the right-hand side should go, and we properly error out.
Unfortunately, the error message is the long "we tried to
qualify this, but the source side didn't let us guess"
message, which is quite confusing.

Instead, we can just be more succinct and say "we can't
delete this because we couldn't find it". So before:

  $ git push origin :bogus
  error: unable to push to unqualified destination: bogus
  The destination refspec neither matches an existing ref on the remote nor
  begins with refs/, and we are unable to guess a prefix based on the source ref.
  error: failed to push some refs to '$URL'

and now:

  $ git push origin :bogus
  error: unable to delete 'bogus': remote ref does not exist
  error: failed to push some refs to '$URL'

It is tempting to also catch a fully-qualified ref like
"refs/heads/bogus" and generate the same error message.
However, that currently does not error out at all, and
instead gets sent to the remote side, which typically
generates a warning:

  $ git push origin:refs/heads/bogus
  remote: warning: Deleting a non-existent ref.
  To $URL
   - [deleted]         bogus

While it would be nice to catch this error early, a
client-side error would mean aborting the push entirely and
changing push's exit code. For example, right now you can
do:

  $ git push origin refs/heads/foo refs/heads/bar

and end up in a state where "foo" and "bar" are deleted,
whether both of them currently exist or not (and see an
error only if we actually failed to contact the server).
Generating an error would cause a regression for this use
case.

Felipe Contreras 6ddba5e241 push: add '--prune' option
When pushing groups of refs to a remote, there is no simple way to remove
old refs that still exist at the remote that is no longer updated from us.
This will allow us to remove such refs from the remote.

With this change, running this command

 $ git push --prune remote refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/laptop/*

removes refs/remotes/laptop/foo from the remote if we do not have branch
"foo" locally anymore.

Felipe Contreras db70a04cbb remote: reorganize check_pattern_match()
The function match_name_with_pattern() is called twice, once to see if a
pattern matches with the name, and again to learn what the matched pattern
maps the name to.  Since check_pattern_match() is only used in one place,
we can just reorganize it to make a single call and fetch the values at
the same time.

This changes the meaning of check_pattern_match() that used to check which
pattern in the array of refspecs matched the given ref, to return the name
of the remote ref the given ref is mapped to.

Rename it to get_ref_match() which actually describes more closely what
it's actually doing now.

resolve_ref() may return a pointer to a static buffer, which is not
safe for long-term use because if another resolve_ref() call happens,
the buffer may be changed.  Many call sites though do not care about
this buffer. They simply check if the return value is NULL or not.

Convert all these call sites to new wrappers to reduce resolve_ref()
calls from 57 to 34. If we change resolve_ref() prototype later on
to avoid passing static buffer out, this helps reduce changes.

Carlos Martín Nieto ed43de6ec3 fetch: honor the user-provided refspecs when pruning refs
If the user gave us refspecs on the command line, we should use those
when deciding whether to prune a ref instead of relying on the
refspecs in the config.

Previously, running

    git fetch --prune origin refs/heads/master:refs/remotes/origin/master

would delete every other ref under the origin namespace because we
were using the refspec to filter the available refs but using the
configured refspec to figure out if a ref had been deleted on the
remote. This is clearly the wrong thing to do.

Change prune_refs and get_stale_heads to simply accept a list of
references and a list of refspecs. The caller of either function needs
to decide what refspecs should be used to decide whether a ref is
stale.

Michael Haggerty 8d9c50105f Change check_ref_format() to take a flags argument
Change check_ref_format() to take a flags argument that indicates what
is acceptable in the reference name (analogous to "git
check-ref-format"'s "--allow-onelevel" and "--refspec-pattern").  This
is more convenient for callers and also fixes a failure in the test
suite (and likely elsewhere in the code) by enabling "onelevel" and
"refspec-pattern" to be allowed independently of each other.

Also rename check_ref_format() to check_refname_format() to make it
obvious that it deals with refnames rather than references themselves.

Jeff King 61adfd3097 consider only branches in guess_remote_head
The guess_remote_head function tries to figure out where a
remote's HEAD is pointing by comparing the sha1 of the
remote's HEAD with the sha1 of various refs found on the
remote. However, we were too liberal in matching refs, and
would match tags or remote tracking branches, even though
these things could not possibly be referenced by the HEAD
symbolic ref (since git will detach when checking them out).

As a result, a clone of a remote repository with a detached
HEAD might write "refs/tags/*" into our local HEAD, which is
bogus. The resulting HEAD should be detached.

The other related code path is remote.c's get_head_names()
(which is used for, among other things, "set-head -a"). This was
not affected, however, as that function feeds only refs from
refs/heads to guess_remote_head.

Unfortunately, there are still plenty of production systems with
vendor compilers that choke unless all compound declarations can be
determined statically at compile time, for example hpux10.20 (I can
provide a comprehensive list of our supported platforms that exhibit
this problem if necessary).

This patch simply breaks apart any compound declarations with dynamic
initialisation expressions, and moves the initialisation until after
the last declaration in the same block, in all the places necessary to
have the offending compilers accept the code.

Move the logic that detects up-to-date and non-fast-forward refs to a
new function in remote.[ch], set_ref_status_for_push().

Make transport_push() invoke set_ref_status_for_push() before invoking
the push_refs() implementation. (As a side-effect, the push_refs()
implementation in transport-helper.c now knows of non-fast-forward
pushes.)

Removed logic for detecting up-to-date refs from the push_refs()
implementation in transport-helper.c, as transport_push() has already
done so for it.

Make cmd_send_pack() invoke set_ref_status_for_push() before invoking
send_pack(), as transport_push() can't do it for send_pack() here.

Mark the test on the return status of non-fast-forward push to fail.
Git now exits with success, as transport.c::transport_push() does not
check for refs with status REF_STATUS_REJECT_NONFASTFORWARD nor does it
indicate rejected pushes with its return value.

Mark the test for ref status to succeed. As mentioned earlier, refs
might be marked as non-fast-forwards, triggering the push status
printing mechanism in transport.c.

Daniel Barkalow c578f51d52 Add a config option for remotes to specify a foreign vcs
If this is set, the url is not required, and the transport always uses
a helper named "git-remote-<value>".

It is a separate configuration option in order to allow a sensible
configuration for foreign systems which either have no meaningful urls
for repositories or which require urls that do not specify the system
used by the repository at that location. However, this only affects
how the name of the helper is determined, not anything about the
interaction with the helper, and the contruction is such that, if the
foreign scm does happen to use a co-named url method, a url with that
method may be used directly.

Julian Phillips 95c96d48e6 remote: fix use-after-free error detected by glibc in ref_remove_duplicates
In ref_remove_duplicates, when we encounter a duplicate and remove it
from the list we need to make sure that the prev pointer stays
pointing at the last entry and also skip over adding the just freed
entry to the string_list.

Previously fetch could crash with:
*** glibc detected *** git: corrupted double-linked list: ...

Also add a test to try and catch problems with duplicate removal in
the future.

Björn Gustavsson 7cc91a2f71 Add the configuration option skipFetchAll
Implement the configuration skipFetchAll option to allow
certain remotes to be skipped when doing 'git fetch --all' and
'git remote update'. The existing skipDefaultUpdate variable
is still honored (by 'git fetch --all' and 'git remote update').
(If both are set in the configuration file with different values,
the value of the last occurrence will be used.)
