However, if a view is named `RCTFooView` and needs `RCTFooViewManager` to render natively, it will almost never find it because `RCT` was dropped from the key to the ViewManager instance.
In the event you look for a `ViewManager` and don't find it, this strips any "React" prefixes from your key and tries ones more time.

This is a good example, where the `synthesize` method simply does not apply to Swift code.

Add RCTGetReactNativeVersion() to expose version in native code. Right now, version is exposed internally to RN using a MACRO constant. This exposes a symbol (function) that can be called to retrieve the React Native version in iOS.
Also exposed RCTVersion.h as a public header in the React project so it is available to developers.
The motivation behind this is for https://github.com/wix/detox —we need to know what RN version the user has, if any, so we can properly handle support and abstract differences.
Ran bump-oss-version.js to ensure the template is applied properly. Also compiled the project to make sure nothing is broken.

1. Create a new react-native app, or simply clone this branch and then update your version of react-native using `yarn add file:./path/to/this/fork/of/react-native`
2. run `react-native run-ios --port 8088`
3. watch the packager start on the desired port (8088 in this case) and watch your app in your simulator connect to the packager and launch the app.

Summary:
RCTSurface instance represents React Native-powered piece of a user interface
which can be a full-screen app, separate modal view controller,
or even small widget. It is called "Surface".
The RCTSurface instance is completely thread-safe by design;
it can be created on any thread, and any its method can be called from
any thread (if the opposite is not mentioned explicitly).
The primary goals of the RCTSurface are:
- ability to measure and layout the surface in a thread-safe and synchronous manner;
- ability to create a UIView instance on demand (later);
- ability to communicate the current stage of the surface granularly.

While building a React Native application, I've come across the use case of wanting to set a specific locale for DatePickers irrespective of the users OS region setting. Since this is a feature available to native DatePicker components, I think it would be helpful to expose this in React Native as well.
Testing can be done by passing a `locale` prop to a DatePickerIOS. Example:
```
<DatePickerIOS
date={this.state.date}
mode="date"
locale="fr_FR"
onDateChange={date => this.setState({ date: date })}
/>
```

- The version check that ensures the JS and native versions match is now in its own module for two reasons: it is easier to test and it allows react-native-windows to override just this module to implement its own version check (ex: more advanced checks for RNW-specific code).
- Added unit tests for the version checking to specify its behavior more clearly, including parity between dev and prod to avoid prod-only behavior and mitigate SEVs.

Basic implementation of the proposal in #15271
Note that this should not affect facebook internally since they are not using OSS releases.
Points to consider:
- How strict should the version match be, right now I just match exact versions.
- Wasn't able to use haste for ReactNativeVersion because I was getting duplicate module provider caused by the template file in scripts/versiontemplates. I tried adding the scripts folder to modulePathIgnorePatterns in package.json but that didn't help.
- Redscreen vs. warning, I think warning is useless because if the app crashes you won't have time to see the warning.
- Should the check and native modules be __DEV__ only?
**Test plan**
Tested that it works when version match and that it redscreens when versions don't before getting other errors on Android and iOS.

This shows progress for the download of the JS bundle (different from the packager transform progress that we show already). This is useful especially when loading the JS bundle from a remote source or when developing on device (on simulator + localhost it pretty much just downloads instantly). This will be nice for the expo client since all bundles are loaded over the network and can take several seconds to load.
This depends on https://github.com/facebook/metro-bundler/pull/28 to work but won't crash or anything without it, it just won't show the progress percentage.

Summary:
We've simplified a lot of the conditions for eager of the module init so now we can introduce a final switch to allow modules to opt-out (and in the future opt-in if they still require the behaviour).
We now require you to be explicit about the intended behaviour and implement the `+ (BOOL)requiresMainQueueSetup` method on your module. When you return YES from this method, it tells the bridge the module needs to be created on the main thread (and to avoid deadlocks, we do so eagerly during bridge startup). When you return NO, the native module will be initialised when it's first accessed from JS.
The current behaviour is maintained but a warning is emitted until the new API is adopted.

This is the first PR from a series of PRs grabbou and me will make to add blob support to React Native. The next PR will include blob support for XMLHttpRequest.
I'd like to get this merged with minimal changes to preserve the attribution. My next PR can contain bigger changes.
Blobs are used to transfer binary data between server and client. Currently React Native lacks a way to deal with binary data. The only thing that comes close is uploading files through a URI.
Current workarounds to transfer binary data includes encoding and decoding them to base64 and and transferring them as string, which is not ideal, since it increases the payload size and the whole payload needs to be sent via the bridge every time changes are made.
The PR adds a way to deal with blobs via a new native module. The blob is constructed on the native side and the data never needs to pass through the bridge. Currently the only way to create a blob is to receive a blob from the server via websocket.
The PR is largely a direct port of https://github.com/silklabs/silk/tree/master/react-native-blobs by philikon into RN (with changes to integrate with RN), and attributed as such.
> **Note:** This is a breaking change for all people running iOS without CocoaPods. You will have to manually add `RCTBlob.xcodeproj` to your `Libraries` and then, add it to Build Phases. Just follow the process of manual linking. We'll also need to document this process in the release notes.
Related discussion - https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/11103
- `Image` can't show image when `URL.createObjectURL` is used with large images on Android
The websocket integration can be tested via a simple server,
```js
const fs = require('fs');
const http = require('http');
const WebSocketServer = require('ws').Server;
const wss = new WebSocketServer({
server: http.createServer().listen(7232),
});
wss.on('connection', (ws) => {
ws.on('message', (d) => {
console.log(d);
});
ws.send(fs.readFileSync('./some-file'));
});
```
Then on the client,
```js
var ws = new WebSocket('ws://localhost:7232');
ws.binaryType = 'blob';
ws.onerror = (error) => {
console.error(error);
};
ws.onmessage = (e) => {
console.log(e.data);
ws.send(e.data);
};
When using the packager behind something like an http tunnel it is possible something else than JS is returned, in that case throw an error instead of trying to parse it.
This is useful for Expo since the packager runs behind ngrok. This allows to intercept that error and show a more meaningful error message based on the ngrok response.
**Test plan**
Tested by changing the packager to return text/html content type and validate that the error shows up properly.
Also tested that it works when multipart response is disabled.
React Native uses JSON to marshal the data across the bridge.
And because of this we have to avoid using NaN and INF values in events and other pieces of data that suppose to be transfered to/from JS side.
(We also don't want to introduce additional wrapping/escaping semantics for perfomance reasons.)
So, we have to gate all particular cases where there is a possibility of NaN or INF values, and replace these value with something meaningful for each particular case.
We are using `0` as NaN substitution here because:
* NaN in touch event is super rare case;
* Conversion to `0` is fast;
* `0` is okay value for product code in most cases;
* In all cases `0` is decent analog to "undefined position on screen" for touch event;
* Nobody will explicitly handle NaN case in product code, just because it is super rare case and actually indicates that something else went wrong.
This diff adds display:none support to React Native. This enables hiding components which still calling their render method and keeping them within the state of your application. This enables preserving state in a component even though the component is not visible. Previously this was often implemented by rendering a component off screen as a work around. See below playground for usage.
```
class Playground extends React.Component {
render() {
return (
<View style={{width: '100%', height: '100%', flexDirection: 'row', backgroundColor: 'white'}}>
<View style={{width: 100, height: 100, display: 'none', backgroundColor: 'red'}}/>
<View style={{width: 100, height: 100, backgroundColor: 'blue'}}/>

Summary:
* The dev support code moved into a `DevSupport` subspec, meaning that only if the subspec is specified in the user’s Podfile will the packager client, dev menu, etc be included. This is mainly done through checks for header availability.
It also improves the weird situation where you had to specify the `RCTWebSocket` subspec if you wanted to be able to use the packager client during development.
* I removed hardcoding the release version in the podspec on release, because the podspec still relies on `package.json` when evaluating, so there’s no real point in not also getting the version number from there. This should remove any requirement to perform maintenance of the OSS release script regarding the podspec.

Summary:
Since we are reading from a file, we should make sure this struct is packed, just in case we change it down the line and the compiler decides it might want to introduce padding, we're now protected against that.
There was also a discussion about the fact that people might use `ptr += sizeof(BundleHeader)` as an idiom in their code, which would currently be incorrect, if padding was introduced at the end of the file. Actually, it remains incorrect to do that now, because a RAM bundle header is a different size to a BC Bundle header. If people are properly testing their code, they should spot this pretty quickly, because it will always be an incorrect thing to do with a RAM bundle, so this isn't as bad as previously thought: where the code only succeeds when the compiler deigns to not pad the struct at the end.
This diff also cleans up how headers are initialised. `BundleHeader` has a constructor that explicitly zero-initialises it so we can rely on the default initializer to do the right thing now.

Now things look much more clear, I hope.
This diff:
* Introduces new property of `RCTRootShadowView` `availableSize` which represents exactly what we transmit to layout engine;
* Illuminates conflict between logical `availableSize` and explicitly specified size of DOM node (current `size`);
* Splits overcomplicated `setSize:forView:` method into two unrelated ones;
* Changes actual values of `RCTRootViewSizeFlexibility` enum constants for simpler usage;
* Completely removes `sizeFlexibility` concept from `RCTRootShadowView` (in favor of special values of `availableSize`);
* Makes the code clearer finally.
This is beginning of big effort to improve `RCTRootView` and co.

Summary:
Eliminates a build warning related to the use of the deprecated `NSStringArray` typedef.
This fix was more complex than I'd anticipated because `NSStringArray` was also being used as part of a macro-generated selector name, and in two different ways for debug/release. I've added a macro which allows the selector name to be specified explicitly, thus generally allowing for converters which return arrays of templated types.
There's an argument for ditching `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER` in favour of `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER_NAMED` as they're both private, but `RCT_ARRAY_CONVERTER` is in the public API so we'd at least need to retain that. There are also arguments for ditching the use of the macro for the nested array case(s) - since afaik this is the only one at the moment. Feedback appreciated :)
Tested with the `UIExplorer` unit tests and by diffing the preprocessor output of `RCTConvert.m` in both release and debug configs, verifying that they're identical apart from that `NSStringArray` is replaced by

Summary:
In the context of an app an image exists in three resolutions on the server: `thumb` (30px) `feed` (300px) `full` (900px). When looking at an individual item a user can come either from the feed, via a permalink or from other parts of the app. This allows a situation where the `feed` image might or might not already be loaded somewhere in the app. In the detail view I want to render `thumb` with a blur (to quickly display something), then the `feed` image if it exists to have something decent to display until `full` loads. However it is quite a waste to load the `feed` image if it isn't already in cache, and will slow down the time until `full` is loaded. It is possible to track the navigation from feed->detail and that the `feed` image has actually completed loading by the feed component however as component hierarchies grow this turns into quite a lot of prop passing and bad separation of concerns.

Currently a build warning is thrown by `if (header.BCVersion != runtimeBCVersion) ...` because `runtimeBCVersion` is signed, apparently because `-1` is used to mean that the runtime has no support for bytecode bundles.

As per janicduplessis recommendation, provide a new synchronous method to replace the necessary synchronous calls and use a warning in the comments (and method name).
**Motivation**
There are currently a number of XCode warnings that show up in a fresh 0.40 install of a react native project. While the project can still be run, this contributes negatively to the development experience -- valid warnings may be ignored and new ones may be added as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory
This addresses one of the warnings, by providing the functionality of a deprecated method in two specific cases where we can't avoid doing synchronous work on the main queue. See https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/11736 for more context.
