The change is indeed a 4-line change, but the side effects are vast as old code
has been hardcoded to detect Unix, not MacOS, so this means that introducing
this change will break hundreds of applications.

You can argue that the applications need fixing, but this is not something we
want to impose on our users and have stuff now magically not work.

There is a thread in the mailing lists and on IRC on the side effects, they are
not pretty.
