This commit adds syncing support to the `StorageSyncArea` class, via
the Golden Gate library.
It also changes the `BridgedEngine` trait: `initialize` and `finalize`
haven't been useful in practice, since that's managed by the storage
service, and the `LazyStore` takes care of setting up the storage
connection on first use. But, what we do need is a way to signal a
sync is starting, so that the engine can set up temp tables. That's
handled by the new `sync_started`.
Finally, this commit changes `BridgedEngine::set_uploaded` to take a
`sync15_traits::Guid` instead of a `String`.
Differential Revision: https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D73415
This commit splits `CryptoWrapper` into a base `RawCryptoWrapper`
class, which only handles encryption and decryption without
parsing the cleartext's contents, and the existing `CryptoWrapper`
class, which works like before.
Our bridged engine subclasses `RawCryptoWrapper`, and
implements some methods to convert records to and from envelopes.
Envelopes are a concept we introduced in `sync15_traits` to pass
along metadata from the BSO wrapper (like the modified time from the
server, and ID, to ensure they match) in addition to the cleartext.
This lets us reuse `sync15_traits::Payload` to parse record payloads
in Rust, and avoids parsing the cleartext in JS, only to stringify it
again when we pass it to the bridged Rust engine.
Differential Revision: https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D73581
This commit removes the `nsICancelable` return values from all
`mozIBridgedSyncEngine` methods, and replaces them with a
`mozIInterruptible` interface that can be implemented by store
classes that support interrupting.
The `nsICancelable` pattern was intended to make each operation
interruptible, without affecting the others. But we can't guarantee
that with SQLite, because it only has a way to interrupt all
running statements on a connection, not specific ones. Further,
this pattern doesn't match what we currently do in a-s, where we
create an internal "interrupt scope" for each operation, and hand
out an "interrupt handle" for interrupting all in-progress
operations.
Storage classes like `StorageSyncArea` can opt in to interruption
by implementing `mozIInterruptible`. It's a separate interface to
protect against accidental misuse: because it interrupts all
statements on the connection, it might lose writes if the current
operation is a `set`, for example. But it's useful for testing and
debugging, so we still expose it.
This commit also changes Golden Gate ferries to hold weak references to
the `BridgedEngine`, so that they don't block teardown.
Differential Revision: https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D73413
This commit wires up `StorageSyncArea::teardown()` to call the new
`webext_storage::Store::close()` method.
It also changes `teardown` to drop the `LazyStore`, and thus close its
database connection, on the main thread if dispatching to the task
queue fails. Dispatch should only fail at shutdown, and putting the
owned reference back only adds indirection, since the `StorageSyncArea`
will still drop its `LazyStore` later in shutdown.
Finally, it includes an xpcshell test fix for
https://github.com/mozilla/application-services/pull/3050.

Some crates in the dependency graph at some point depend on failure,
without disabling its default features, which means they are turned on
for m-c builds.
The default features include the backtrace features, which seems to
cause issues for some m-c builds (like the Windows one).
As we can't turn of default features easily, our next best option is to
use a patched version that doesn't have include backtrace as a default feature.

It was added in bug 1575760 and turns out to be causing a lot more
problems than anticipated.
However, the previous status quo is also not ideal, so we do
auto-generate .cargo/config.in instead, with a little trick that allows
to just copy it to .cargo/config instead of how individual scripts would
previously manually preprocess it.
Differential Revision: https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D46138
--HG--
extra : moz-landing-system : lando
Maybe back when .cargo/config.in was added, the directory indicated for
vendored crates needed to be absolute. That is at least not the case
with the current supported versions of rust.
The current setup has a few caveats:
- .cargo/config.in has shown to become stale (it currently contains
multiple unused entries)
- non-gecko build tasks have to generate a .cargo/config on their own if
they want to use vendored crates
- in turn, non-gecko build tasks that don't, may unknowingly get their
dependencies from crates.io (see the recent attempt at moving
geckodriver builds to a separate task).
By checking in a .cargo/config file, we can alleviate the last two, but
that comes at the price of `cargo update` not wanting to act when
.cargo/config exists, because of the source replacement configuration.
But rust vendor gently generates a suitable configuration on its own, so
we can use that to generate a .cargo/config automatically. Which
addresses the first caveat of the current setup. That leaves us with
`cargo update` not working out of the box, but that just requires people
running it to manually remove .cargo/config first. Which is arguably
what rust wants you to do in the first place. It's kind of incidental
that we started with a .cargo/config.in rather than .cargo/config.
Now, while a simple .cargo/config works, that's not enough for the case
where the objdir doesn't live inside the source directory. In that case
cargo looks for the configuration from the objdir, and fails to find it.
So we still need a .cargo/config.in, which we generate with a little
trick.

This is the first time we pin a specific Cranelift commit hash to use in Gecko.
The target-lexicon hack is removed and instead we introduce a vendor patch for
cranelift-codegen/cranelift-wasm themselves.
Notable changes happen in top-level Cargo.toml, .cargo/config.in and
js/src/wasm/cranelift/Cargo.toml; the rest has been generated by `mach vendor
rust`.

This adds the Firefox-required build.rs hack and reverts the commit
that added bitmasks in a way that depends on Rust 1.34 compiler
internals.

The current setup uses different ways for different platforms, with
different workarounds, even using extra configuration items for Windows.
Now that there can't be a difference between the host per the build
system and the host per rust, we can get rid of those configuration
items, and use a more common infrastructure.
We cannot, however, avoid using wrapper scripts, because per-target rust
link-arg flags don't work up great.
The downside is that multiplies the number of wrappers, as we now have
to have a different one for host and target, and then we have .bat files
and shell scripts for, respectively, Windows hosts, and other hosts.
