Hiroyuki Ikezoe 92e15ae40f Bug 1472076 - Update animations when the refresh driver's time changed due to the active timer changes. r=birtles
Normally the refresh driver's time changes in nsRefreshDriver::Tick, and then
DocumentTimeline::WillRefresh is called for the change. But nsRefreshDriver
sometimes updates its own time when their timer changes to the active one.
This patch lets DocumentTimeline update animations in response to the refresh
driver's time updates. And thus this patch prevents animation state and
relevant stuff inconsistencies such as an animation has been finished without
proper processes, e.g. without invalidating frame for the animation.

Masayuki Nakano 09e0a5196b Bug 1469875 - Make nsPluginInstanceOwner::RequestCommitOrCancel() call IMEStateManager::NotifyIME() rather than calling nsIWidget::NotifyIME() r=m_kato
Any content code except TextComposition shouldn't call nsIWidget::NotifyIM()
since IMEStateManager and TextComposition manage state of the composition.
Therefore, we need to make nsPluginInstanceOwner::RequestCommitOrCancel()
call IMEStateManager::NotifyIME() instead.

Additionally, this method should ignore the request if composition has
already been gone. This patch makes check whether there is a TextComposition
instance for the widget and the composition is handled in the plugin owner
element.

Chris Pearce 21f07622bf Bug 1463919 - Adjust mochitests to pass after changes. r=jya
Prior to the changes in this bug, a document would request autoplay permission
for its own origin, and not use the top level document's origin for the
permission check. Since now we use the top level document's origin for
requesting autoplay permission, some mochitests need to change, namely:

* test_autoplay_policy_permission.html can use
file_autoplay_policy_activation_frame.html directly.

The test was failing because its helper page was loaded same origin and the
helper page was testing if cross origin iframes could play; since we use the
top level document's permission request, this no longer effectively tests
whether the cross origin child can autoplay, as the cross origin child just
uses the top level window's origin for requests.

So we can instead load the helper window cross orgin instead, and remove one
helper layer.

Also an issue here is the way I was waiting for a new window to load was racy,
so now we wait for loading windows to send us a "ready" message.

* test_autoplay_policy_activation.html; this test's helper needs to wait for
loading windows to send it a "ready" message, as its helper is shared with the
above test.

Chris Pearce f88fe2a683 Bug 1463919 - Check AutoplayPolicy before activating attribute based autoplay. r=jya
When autoplay is requested by setting the "autoplay" attribute, we should
check whether autoplay is allowed in HTMLMediaElement::CheckAutoplayDataReady()
and if not we should prompt for user consent.

This ensures that <video ... autoplay/> will prompt for consent when used on
a page without a pre-existing allow/block permission.

Chris Pearce bbbdebe6e1 Bug 1463919 - Add AutoplayRequest to encapsulate asking for autoplay permission. r=smaug
Add an implementation of nsIContentPermissionRequest to encapsulate requesting
permission from the user to autoplay audible media.

All documents in the tab request permission using the top level document's
origin, so the AutoplayRequest instance for a tab is stored on the top level
content window of the tab.

AutoplayRequest ensures that there's only a single prompt shown at once.

This class implements a shared memory key-value store that fits into a single

the shared memory region, which means that memory overhead for each instance
in each process is only a few bytes.

Importantly, the key and value strings returned by this class are also
pointers into the shared memory region, which means that once an instance is
created, its memory cannot be unmapped until process shutdown.

For the uses I intend to put it to, this is a reasonable constraint. If we
need to use it for shorter-lived maps in the future, we can add an option to
return non-literal dependent strings that will be copied if they need to be
kept alive long term.

Kris Maglione fd093e7cca Bug 1463587: Part 1 - Add helper class for creating snapshots of shared memory regions. r=jld,erahm
This class allows us to map a read-write shared memory region, and then safely
remap it read-only, so that it can be shared with sandboxed content processes.

Masayuki Nakano 36f73c43d8 Bug 1435717 - Make calling WidgetEvent::PreventDefault*() stop cross process forwarding too r=smaug
Currently, if an event is consumed in the main process, EventStateManager
does not send it to remote process. However, this is unexpected behavior
for some WidgetKeyboardEvent dispatchers. OS sometimes has consumed native
key events before sending applications. For example, Alt key on Windows
should activate menu bar of focused window but Alt key may be consumed before
focused window receives the event. In such case, we mark Alt keyboard event
as "consumed before dispatch", and chrome treat it like as its preventDefault()
is called in web content. (Note that for compatibility with other browsers,
the consumed state is not exposed to web content. So, Event.defaultPrevented
returns false in web content.)

Therefore, we need to treat "consumed" state and "cross process forwarding"
state separately. This patch makes calling WidgetEvent::PreventDefault()
always stops cross process forwarding for backward compatibility. Additionally,
for the special case mentioned above, this patch makes
WidgetEvent::PreventDefaultBeforeDispatch() take additional argument,
|aIfStopCrossProcessForwarding|.  If this is CrossProcessForwarding::eStop,
the event won't be sent to remote process as same as calling PreventDefault().
Otherwise, CrossProcessForwarding::eHold, PreventDefaultBeforeDispatch() call
does not change "cross process forwarding" state. I.e., if the event's
StopCrossProcessForwarding() and PreventDefault() are not called until
EventStateManager::PostHandleEvent(), the event will be sent to remote process
as usual.

Dave Townsend d8b7fb22e3 Bug 1453751: Load favicons in the content process. r=mak, r=gijs, r=aswan, r=mixedpuppy
Summary:
This moves the load of favicons into the content process. We use the same logic
for finding favicons (based on waiting until none have shown up for a short
time) but then load the favicon and convert it to a data uri which we then
dispatch to the parent process. Along the way this fixes asssociating the load
with the tab for WebExtension and devtools, fixes CSP usage for the load, fixes
expiry detection of the favicon and stops us from loading the same resource
twice.

This change also merges the prefs browser.chrome.site_icons and
browser.chrome.favicons leaving just the former controlling favicon loading. It
adds the pref browser.chrome.guess_favicon to allow disabling guessing where
a favicon might be located for a site (at <hostname>/favicon.ico). This is
mainly to allow disabling this in tests where those additional yet automatic
requests are uninteresting for the test.

There are multiple clean-ups that can follow this but this is a first step along
that path.

Anny Gakhokidze 535e3c83a1 Bug 1470540 - Improve performance of DataTransfer::CacheExternalClipboardFormats, r=baku,mccr8
Currently, in order to retrieve supported clipboard formats
DataTransfer::CacheExternalClipboardFormats repeatedly makes the same calls to
clipboard->HasDataMatchingFlavors.

In the case when aPlainTextOnly == true only 1 call is made -
clipboard->HasDataMatchingFlavors(kUnicodeMime, ...), and when
aPlainTextOnly == false we have 1 call made for every member of the list
{ kCustomTypesMime, kFileMime, kHTMLMime, kRTFMime, kURLMime, kURLDataMime,
kUnicodeMime, kPNGImageMime } - a total of 8 calls.

We can see that in nsClipboardProxy::HasDataMatchingFlavors, there is a call to
ContentChild::GetSingleton()->SendClipboardHasType.
So when aPlainTextOnly == true, we will have 1 sync message, and when
aPlainTextOnly == false, we will have 8 sync messages.

With the proposed solution, in DataTransfer::CacheExternalClipboardFormats
we will only have 1 sync message regardless of the case because
GetExternalClipboardFormats() will retrieve all supported clipboard
formats at once.

Some MSE streams will resend the same init segment. In these cases we can treat
the following data as belonging to the already existing stream. We do this by

Eric Rahm e36783bdd1 Bug 1472018 - Limit the lock scope in WebCryptoThreadPool::Shutdown. r=bz
In bug 1364624 we switched over to SRWLock on Windows for our internal
implementation of mozilla::Mutex. This doesn't allow for re-entrancy. The
WebCryptoThreadPool shutdown code has potential for re-entrancy due to the
spinning of the main thread event loop while shutting down the worker threads.

By limiting the scope of the lock protecting mPool during shutdown we can avoid
the re-entrancy. Addtionally we track the shutdown status to avoid dispatching
events once shutdown has started.

Chris Pearce 56d56555be Bug 1471800 - Ensure HTMLMediaElement doesn't play its MediaDecoder in a readyState update after it's OwnerDoc has been removed from its DocShell. r=jya
It's possible that if the HTMLMediaElement is loading while we're loading a new
document into a docshell, that the HTMLMediaElement can reach readyState
HAVE_FUTURE_DATA just after its OwnerDoc is removed from the docshell. If the
HTMLMediaElement wasn't paused, then it may start playing due to the readyState
change in HTMLMediaElement::ChangeReadyState().

For years we've had hard to reproduce issues where media started playing after
we've closed the tab; I bet this was the cause!

When we detect that the document has been removed from its DocShell,
HTMLMediaElement::NotifyOwnerDocumentActivityChanged() is called, and that
suspends the MediaDecoder just in case we need to resurrect the media element,
for example if the tab comes out of the BF cache. When we suspend we set
mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel=true, and all other calls to
MediaDecoder::Play() are guarded by checks on
mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel.

So we should also guard the MediaDecoder::Play() call in ChangeReadyState()
with a check on mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel too.

Andrew Osmond 481ecf53ca Bug 1470430 - MediaDocumentStreamListener should allow off main thread OnDataAvailable calls. r=smaug
This patch makes MediaDocumentStreamListener implement the
nsIThreadRetargetableStreamListener interface. This allows callers to
redirect the OnDataAvailable calls to another thread if possible. Since
ImageDocument's use ImageListener which inherits from this class, and we
are often viewing large images this way, it would be nice to move the IO
to the image IO thread.

This is a quick-and-dirty port. It might be nice to replace

Boris Zbarsky e2386da2d1 Bug 1209035. Fix incorrect "is this control focused?" checks in form code. r=smaug
For number controls, nsContentUtils::IsFocusedContent doesn't really do the
right thing, because the thing it thinks is focused is the anonymous text
element inside the number control. As a result, we weren't properly updating
the state of the currently-focused number control when hitting enter in it to
submit the form.

The HTMLFormElement change is enough on its own to fix the bug. The constraint
validation change is a just-in-case.

I haven't figured out a sane way to write a reftest for this, unfortunately:
the enter key press needs to look like a real user event to trigger the
submission behavior.

Chris Pearce dc1195caea Bug 1471800 - Ensure HTMLMediaElement doesn't play its MediaDecoder in a readyState update after it's OwnerDoc has been removed from its DocShell. r=jya
It's possible that if the HTMLMediaElement is loading while we're loading a new
document into a docshell, that the HTMLMediaElement can reach readyState
HAVE_FUTURE_DATA just after its OwnerDoc is removed from the docshell. If the
HTMLMediaElement wasn't paused, then it may start playing due to the readyState
change in HTMLMediaElement::ChangeReadyState().

For years we've had hard to reproduce issues where media started playing after
we've closed the tab; I bet this was the cause!

When we detect that the document has been removed from its DocShell,
HTMLMediaElement::NotifyOwnerDocumentActivityChanged() is called, and that
suspends the MediaDecoder just in case we need to resurrect the media element,
for example if the tab comes out of the BF cache. When we suspend we set
mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel=true, and all other calls to
MediaDecoder::Play() are guarded by checks on
mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel.

So we should also guard the MediaDecoder::Play() call in ChangeReadyState()
with a check on mPausedForInactiveDocumentOrChannel too.

Olli Pettay abf54817b9 Bug 1428246 - The attributeChangedCallback is fired twice for the *first* style attribute change, r=peterv
The idea with this patch is that style code will first call
InlineStyleDeclarationWillChange before style declaration has changed, and SetInlineStyleDeclaration once it has changed.

In order to be able to report old attribute value, InlineStyleDeclarationWillChange reads the value and also calls AttributeWillChange (so that DOMMutationObserser can grab the old value). Later SetInlineStyleDeclaration passes the old value to
SetAttrAndNotify so that mutation events and attributeChanged callbacks are handled correctly.

Because of performance, declaration can't be cloned for reading the old value. And that is why the recently-added callback is used to detect when declaration is about to change (bug 1466963 and followup bug 1468665).

To keep the expected existing behavior, even if declaration isn't changed, but just a new declaration was created (since there wasn't any), we need to still run all these
willchange/set calls. That is when the code has 'if (created)' checks.

Since there are several declaration implementation and only nsDOMCSSAttributeDeclaration needs the about-to-change callback, GetPropertyChangeClosure is the one to initialize the callback closure, and the struct which is then passes as data to the closure.

Apparently we lost mutation event testing on style attribute when the pref was added, so test_style_attr_listener.html is modified to test both pref values.

Chris Peterson d8afcd19f3 Bug 1469769 - Part 2: animation: Replace failing NS_NOTREACHED with NS_ERROR. r=heycam
I'm replacing non-failing calls to NS_NOTREACHED with MOZ_ASSERT_UNREACHABLE, but this NS_NOTREACHED fails when running the devtools/client/animationinspector/test/browser_animation_refresh_on_removed_animation.js test. This assertion failure is bug 1189015.

This patch DOES NOT fix the cause of the assertion failure (a missing TextNodeCorrespondenceProperty). It just replaces this failing NS_NOTREACHED with NS_ERROR because I can't replace with a fatal MOZ_ASSERT_UNREACHABLE.

Doug Thayer ba2917606e Bug 1340498 - Implement new Places Observers interface r=mrbkap
See the design doc[1] for further info. We would like to redesign
the places observer system to be more performant and more friendly
to consume. WebIDL was recommended as it simplifies creating simple
dictionary payloads while allowing dynamic typing with `any`.

There were some difficulties with WebIDL though, most of which
revolved around allowing consumers to be weakly referenced, from
both C++ and JS. The simplest solution I could come up with was to
create a simple native interface for the C++ case, and a WebIDL
wrapper for a JS callback in the JS case. Suggestions for simpler
alternatives are very welcome though.

Chris Pearce 63dbf9d6f7 Bug 1470346 - Gesture activate all documents in tab, even across origins, upon user interaction. r=smaug
Sometimes when video is playing, a preroll ad plays, and that may be in a cross
origin iframe. If autoplay media is disabled, we require a user gesture in a
document before playback in that document is permitted, and we require each
origin to be gesture activated separately. So in the cross origin preroll video
add case, then the user will have to click once to unblock playback for the
cross origin ad, and then once the preroll ad finishes, the user will have to
click again to activate playback of the same origin content video.

This is a bad user experience.

So we should instead make gesture activation propagate up the doc tree
irrespective of crossing origins. This way, when the user clicks to activate,
all documents in that tab are also also effectively gesture activated, and so
can autoplay.

Emilio Cobos Álvarez bd7c1e4e8c Bug 1468133: Remove the optimization to lazily load non-SVG styles since it's not relevant anymore. r=heycam
This was a memory-saving optimization introduced as part of dependencies for bug
686875, but a more general system landed in bug 77999 for Gecko and
https://github.com/servo/servo/pull/18509 for Servo.

So now it's probably even a bit of a pessimization (though probably not huge),
and given this causes bugs like bug 1462742, bug 1157592, and bug 1468145, and
fishiness like the one pointed out in this bug, we may as well remove it.

The performance impact of having to lookup through more rules should be minimal
given the bloom filter and the rule hash optimizations.

This makes me wonder whether we could remove the whole concept of on-demand UA
sheets, since they've caused pain, for example, when the frontend people try
loading <svg>s from NAC (since that triggers sheet loading from frame
construction, which is not good). I'm not concerned about loading mathml.css and
svg.css everywhere, though xul.css may not be as doable since it adds a bunch of
attribute-dependent selectors. Though on the other hand I asserted in the
xul.css code and we don't load it in content with <video> / <input
type="date/time/etc"> and such, afaict, so maybe now that legacy addons are gone
we can remove that sheet from content processes altogether.

Nicholas Nethercote 60b1f563cb Bug 1447951 - Store nsDynamicAtom's chars after the end of the object. r=froydnj
This reduces memory usage because we only need one allocation instead of two
for the dynamic atom and its chars, and because we don't need to store a
refcount and a size. It precludes sharing of chars between dynamic atoms, but
we weren't benefiting much from that anyway.

This reduces per-process memory usage by up to several hundred KiB on my
Linux64 box.

One consequence of this change is that we need to allocate + copy in
DOMString::SetKnownLiveAtom(), which could make some things slower.
