Now mfbt/Move.h is empty except for that excellent comment about move
semantics... Should we put it somewhere else and delete the header as a
follow-up? Or just delete the header and carry on?

Masayuki Nakano 4d302443ce Bug 970802 - part 3: Implement `beforeinput` event dispatcher and add `onbeforeinput` event handler attribute r=smaug
This patch makes `nsContentUtils::DispatchInputEvent()` dispatch `beforeinput`
event too. And also adds `onbeforeinput` event handler which is really
important for feature detection (although Chrome has not implemented this
attribute yet: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=947408).

However, we don't implement `InputEvent.getTargetRanges()` in this bug and
implementing `beforeinput` event may hit bugs of some web apps. Therefore,
this patch disables `beforeinput` event by default even in Nightly channel.

Chris Peterson 406763af7f Bug 1570499 - Part 1: Replace MOZ_FALLTHROUGH macro with C++17's [[fallthrough]] attribute. r=froydnj
This changeset is a simple find and replace of `MOZ_FALLTHROUGH` and `[[fallthrough]]`.

Unfortunately, the MOZ_FALLTHROUGH_ASSERT macro (to assert on case fallthrough in debug builds) is still necessary after switching from [[clang::fallthrough]] to [[fallthrough]] because:

* MOZ_ASSERT(false) followed by [[fallthrough]] triggers a -Wunreachable-code warning in DEBUG builds
* but MOZ_ASSERT(false) without [[fallthrough]] triggers a -Wimplicit-fallthrough warning in NDEBUG builds.

Cameron McCormack 80142a59ab Bug 1571285 - Correctly style dark scrollbars in tree components. r=emilio
We need to ensure the rules that override all properties for scrollbar
part elements only apply to those that are NAC (and so will be eligible
for NAC style sharing). We have some uses of non-NAC <scrollbar>
elements that should continue to inherit properties from their parents.

To avoid any changes in rule matching order that come with changing specificity,
we add a new :-moz-native-anonymous-no-specificity pseudo-class.

While we're here, we note :-moz-native-anonymous-no-specificity (and the
regular :-moz-native-anonymous pseudo-class) as not needing style
sharing cache revalidation, as we never share NAC styles.

Doug Thayer 97c5d40384 Bug 1586920 - Sometimes include dynamic string of label frames in BHR r=nika
This adds two AUTO_PROFILER_LABEL_DYNAMIC_... macros and updates select
usages of the old macros to use the new ones. These new macros cause
the dynamic string of the label to be included in BHR stacks.

We don't want to do this all of the time, as in many cases we may not
be interested enough in the dynamic string or it may be sensitive
information, but it is rather important information for certain cases.

This uses the same buffer that we use for the strings for JS frames,
and if we fail to fit into that buffer we just append the raw label.

If the string is too long for our static buffer (128 bytes), we just
leave it truncated, as it should be stable and we may be able to infer
from the truncated form what the full form would be.

I had this patch in my local queue for a bit and there was no point in not

The value of this attribute could be stored only in the shadow root (as this
only applies to shadow hosts), but that would make invalidation harder, I think,
so do the obvious thing for now.

Nicholas Nethercote af281df032 Bug 1587176 - Fix UBSAN complaints about nsCOMArray. r=erahm
nsCOMArray currently casts a function that takes two `void` pointers into a
function that takes two `nsISupports` pointers. UBSAN doesn't like this.

This commit introduces an extra level of casting machinery. As a result, each
comparison done while sorting goes through an extra level, to get from `(T*,
T*)` comparisons to `(nsISupports*, nsISupports*)` comparisons to `(void*,
void*)` comparisons, as required by `NS_QuickSort()`. It's a bit annoying but I
can't see how else to solve this within the constraint imposed by the existing
`nsCOMArray_base`/`nsCOMArray` split.

Jan de Mooij 6febd292ea Bug 1586683 - Remove flat strings from JSAPI. r=jwalden, bzbarsky
We want to remove flat strings (JSFlatString). With this patch we only expose
linear strings (JSLinearString) to API consumers.

This is very mechanical for the most part, because code typically only cares
about linear strings and not the null-termination aspect.

CTypes's Library.cpp has some Windows-specific code where we relied on null-terminated
strings. This patch adds JS_CopyStringCharsZ for that use case.

People keep shooting themselves in the feet because of this codepath and writing
slow code.

There are just a few elements with bindings left, so just check those.

Also simplify a bit the code. The XUL element + tagname check should be pretty
fast now, and ComputedStyle objects no longer keep weak pointers to pres
contexts and such, so can be safely kept on a RefPtr across an style flush.

Masayuki Nakano 23a22c597a Bug 1569902 - part 2: Stop using attribute to consider whether a `<br>` element is a special node for empty last line or not r=m_kato,smaug
Editor creates a `<br>` element to end of a block if last line
of the block is empty because caret should be placed as there is an empty
line. Such special `<br>` element has `type` attribute whose value is "_moz".
However, adding/removing the attribute is expensive and such hacky attribute
shouldn't be referred nor changed by web apps.

Therefore, this patch makes `HTMLBRElement` take another specific flag whether
it's a special node for empty last line. For making the meaning clearer,
this patch calls the such `<br>` elements as "padding `<br>` element for
empty last line" insead of "moz-br". So, this patch also includes a lot of
renaming methods and variables, and modifying related comments.

Note that with this change, `IMEContentObserver` counts the padding `<br>`
element in `<textarea>` because it's inserted before setting the new flag
and setting the flag does not cause DOM tree mutation. This issue will be
fixed by the following patches.

Masayuki Nakano 765e91b497 Bug 1569902 - part 1: Stop using attribute to consider whether a `<br>` element is an editor bogus node or not r=m_kato,smaug
Editor creates a `<br>` element when it's root element is empty.
Then, it's stored by `TextEditRules::mBogusNode` and used for checking
whether the editor is empty quickly. However, this `<br>` element has
`mozeditorbogusnode` attribute whose value is `true`. However, adding or
removing the attribute is not cheap and web apps can refer such illegal
attribute.

Therefore, this patch makes `HTMLBRElement` take a specific flag whether
it's a bogus node or not. However, this means that this hacky thing will be
exposed outside editor module. For making what is the bogus node clearer,
this patch calls the such `<br>` elements as "padding `<br>` element for
empty editor". So, this patch also includes a lot of renaming methods and
variables, and modifying related comments.

Also fairly straight-forward. This may get more complicated when we do part
forwarding, if any.

I've opened https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/3841 in what I think
would be a cleaner model for forwarding.

Ryan Hunt 3675f2449b Bug 1534395 - Rename nsITabParent to nsIRemoteTab. r=nika, mconley
nsITabParent is exposed to frontend code and is generally used as a representation of a remote tab. We could just rename the interface to nsIBrowserParent and worry about it later, but I think it's better to rename the interface to nsIRemoteTab so that we can later work on splitting the interface away from the PBrowser protocol.

Note: Some frontend code refers to a TabParentId. This commit renames this to RemoteTabId. We need to figure out the purpose of TabId with fission.

(more a feedback request than review request at this stage)

Adding a new attribute to the panel was the easiest way I could find to make this work without too much plumbing
However I don't know how to check that the attribute comes from a chrome privileged script. I tried using PresContext()->IsChrome() but this is also false in our situation.

Would you prefer another approach? Otherwise what kind of test would you write for this kind of feature?

Originally, RDD reused the GPU process selector since they were

needs its own process selector to avoid GPU inheriting pref

Andrew McCreight 648311b759 Bug 1542854 - Make [System Principal] into a static atom. r=froydnj
Whenever chrome JS code leaks, we leak the dynamic atom "[System
Principal]". This causes an assertion, which hangs the browser in
stack walking code for multiple minutes on OSX. As a bandaid, make
this atom static so it won't leak.

My first instinct is that it would make sense to use this new atom
directly in SystemPrincipal, but atoms are represented internally as a
kind of nsAString, but principal code uses nsACStrings, so you end up
with an extra conversion from 16-bit to 8-bit.

This atom is also going to be present in any process running chrome
JS, so this will save a little bit of memory.

Consequently, this removes:
- MOZ_LIBPRIO, which is now always enabled.
- non_msvc_compiler, which is now always true.
- The cl.py wrapper, since it's not used anymore.
- CL_INCLUDES_PREFIX, which was only used for the cl.py wrapper.
- NONASCII, which was only there to ensure CL_INCLUDES_PREFIX still
  worked in non-ASCII cases.

This however keeps a large part of detecting and configuring for MSVC,
because we still do need it for at least headers, libraries, and midl.

Nika Layzell 1c2a9c2b07 Bug 1526382 - Part 1: Split nsID& and nsID* in xpconnect, r=mccr8
Currently the [ref] and [ptr] types share the same underlying
implementation. This is unfortunate, and can cause correctness problems
with outparam refs (as an example).

By using the same tools used to allow other larger objects (such as
jsid, nsTArray, and nsString) to be stored directly in the nsXPTCVariant
object, this patch directly stores the nsID in the nsXPTCVariant object
when calling from JS into C++.

Using this new strategy avoids an nsID* allocation every time we pass
one over XPConnect, and should also allow us to simplify callers.

In addition, some special casing is added to xpidl to make it possible
to use the nsid reference type objects directly inside of Array<T>,
which will allow us to remove `[array] nsIIDPtr` callers.

This commit hooks up nsFrameLoader in the child process to use the

In the future, we should unify nsFrameLoader to operate on a common
interface between the parent process top-level browser, and child

be used instead of mRemoteBrowser, when appropriate. IsRemoteFrame()
will return true for both cases.

Additionally, Confluence can be hosted with any domains. Therefore, we cannot

This patch checks whether current or parent document is Confluence with JS

nsHTMLDocument dispatches an custom event, CheckKeyPressEventModel, when it
becomes editable only first time. Finally, if it's a Confluence instance, the

Jan Henning 7fb92b8c44 Bug 1478776 - Part 10: Add internal VisualViewport resize/scroll events. r=botond,nika
The VisualViewport events are all nice and shiny, but unfortunately not quite
what is needed for the session store.

Firstly, the spec wants the "scroll" event to be fired only when the *relative*
offset between visual and layout viewport changes. The session store however
records the absolute offset and as such is interested in when *that* changes.

Secondly, again as per the spec the events don't bubble, and with the default
DOMEventTargetHelper implementation they don't escape the VisualViewport during
capturing, either. This means that any event listener must be added directly on
the VisualViewport itself in order to capture any events.

This might have been intended because the events use the same names as the
normal "scroll"/"resize" events, and as such you cannot specify separate event
listeners for VisualViewport and non-VisualViewport "scroll" events if both
events end up being dispatched to the same element (you can only try to filter
after the fact by looking at the originalTarget of the event).

At the same time, the VisualViewport is attached to the inner Window, and so
each time you navigate, you also get a different VisualViewport object.
All of this might be totally fine from the perspective of a page script, because
in that case you won't care anyway about what happens when the current page goes
away.

From the session store perspective on the other hand (especially Fennec's non-
e10s session store design), this is rather unfortunate because we don't want to
have to keep registering event listeners
a) manually for each subframe
b) each time the page navigates

The event target chain problem could be solved by letting the scroll events
escape the VisualViewport during the capturing phase (which the spec doesn't say
anything about), but this would mean that any scroll listener attached to a
window/browser/... that uses capturing will now catch both layout and visual
viewport scroll events.

In some cases this might even be beneficial, but in others (e.g. bug 1498812
comment 21) I'd like to specifically decide which kind of scroll event to
capture. Having to look at event.originalTarget to distinguish the two kinds
might be defensible in test code, but in case this distinction would be needed
in production code as well, given the existence of a C++-based filtering helper
in nsSessionStoreUtils for another use case where (scroll) events need to be
filtered, JS-based scroll event filtering might be a bad idea.

Additionally, in any case this wouldn't solve the fundamental conflict between
the spec and the session store about *when* the "scroll" event should be fired
in the first place.

Hence I'd like to introduce a separate set of events with distinct event names,
which will be dispatched according to the requirements of our internal users
(i.e. currently the session store). To avoid potential web compatibility issues
down the road, for now these events will be dispatched only to event listeners
registered in the system group (allowing *all* Chrome event listeners cannot be
done because checking the Chrome status of each event target might be too
expensive for frequently dispatched events).

Andrew McCreight 68a1d4dad7 Bug 1508818, part 3 - Shrink comments so they don't get poorly reflowed by clang-format. r=froydnj
Clang format does not always reflow comments correctly to get them
within 80 columns.

The major categories of failures I have noticed in xpcom/ are:

- Comments that are lists. I fixed these by manually getting them so
they'll be within 80 columns after clang-format runs.

- Comments intermixed with lists of things like enums, initializers,
or even fields in a class. It doesn't seem to associate the comment
with the item in the list correctly. The worst cases of these happen
when it changes initializer lists from having commas at the start of
each item to having them at the end. In the initializer comma cases,
I fixed them by making the commas at the end, so clang-format won't
mix things up. For other cases, I often moved the comment for an
item onto its own line, because it was not possible to have both the
comment and the item on the same line and stay within 80 columns.

- One odd case is nsEnumeratorUtils.cpp, where the end of line comment
after a NS_DECL macro confused clang-format and made it stop
realizing that the NS_DECL thing was a complete statement. I also
added a blank line to that file before a declaration because I think
  that is better.

Nathan Froyd 790af83dcc Bug 1460674 - part 3 - make PLDHashTable iteration faster; r=njn
The core loop of Iterator::Next() requires multiple branches, one to
check for entry liveness and one to check for wraparound. We can
rewrite this to use masking instead, as well as iterating only over the
hashes, and reconstructing the entry pointer when we know we've reached
a live entry. This change cuts the time taken on the collections
benchmark by the iteration portion in half.

Nathan Froyd 529e9249dd Bug 1460674 - part 2 - reorganize PLDHashTable's internal storage; r=njn
As discussed in the previous commit message, PLDHashTable's storage
wastes space for common entry types. This commit reorganizes the
storage to store all the hashes packed together, followed by all the
entries, which eliminates said waste.
2018-11-26 16:24:50 -05:00
Nathan Froyd d848c8a50e Bug 1460674 - part 1 - change PLDHashTable internals to work on slots; r=njn
PLDHashTable requires that all items stored therein inherit from
PLDHashEntryHdr:

struct PLDHashEntryHdr {
  // PLDHashNumber is a uint32_t.
PLDHashNumber mKeyHash; // Cached hash key for object.
};

class MyType : public PLDHashEntryHdr {
  // Data members, etc.
};

PLDHashEntryHdr::mKeyHash is used to cache the computed hash value of
the entry, so we aren't rehashing entries on every lookup/add/etc.

Because of structure layout requirements on 64-bit platforms, the data
members of MyType will typically start at offset 8:

MyType, offset 0: mKeyHash
MyType, offset 4: padding required by alignment
MyType, offset 8: first data member of MyType
MyType, offset N: ...

The padding at offset 4 is dead, unused space.

We'd like to change this state of affairs by having PLDHashTable manage
the cached hash key itself, which would eliminate the dead space in the
object and would enable packing the table storage more tightly. But
PLDHashTable pervasively assumes that its internal storage is an array
of PLDHashEntryHdrs (with an associated object size to account for
subclassing).

As a first step to laying out the hash table storage differently, we
have to make the internals of PLDHashTable not access PLDHashEntryHdr
items directly, but layer an abstraction on top. We call this
abstraction "slots": a slot represents storage for the cached hash key
and the associated entry, and can produce a PLDHashEntryHdr* on demand.

This change is satisfying insofar as it removes a load from every
iteration step over the hashtable, but it doesn't seem to affect
our collection benchmarks in any way. The change does not make
iterators any larger, as there is padding at the end of the iterator
structure on both 32- and 64-bit platforms.

Gabriele Svelto 3521fc20c7 Bug 1502284 - Cleanup of the observer service code r=erahm
This refactors the observer service code to improve readability, uses MOZ_TRY
and other checking macros wherever possible to simplify error handling and
replaces the ObserverRef class with the more generic nsMaybeWeakPtr class.
This cuts away some code and halves the amount of memory needed to store an
event listener. The external behavior is almost unchanged save for some error
codes which are now more specific.

an easier fix than storing the lowercased version of all class-names in quirks

Nika Layzell 5b24f801f7 Bug 1500927 - Add copy-free jsstring support to perfecthash.py, r=bzbarsky
This is needed for bug 1500926. It takes the approach of taking a JSFlatString
and using AutoAssertCannotGC to read the memory directly from the JS heap.
This lets us avoid re-encoding strings when performing lookups, which can be
advantageous.

Only ASCII strings are supported by this handler, and wide strings are hashed
as though they contain only values under 0x7f. This is OK as invalid keys to
perfecthash may return any hashtable entry.

Ryan Hunt 1601a8bb80 Bug 1453425 - Add relative scroll offset updates using nsGkAtoms::relative. r=botond
This commit adds a scroll origin, nsGkAtoms::relative, which can be used to
mark main thread scrolling that can be combined with a concurrent APZ scroll.

The behavior of this is controlled by a pref, apz.relative-update. This pref
is initially activated and is intended as an aid to narrowing down causes
of regressions for users in bug reports.

Relative scroll updates work by tracking the last sent or accepted APZ
scroll offset. This is sent along with every FrameMetrics. Additionally,
a flag is added to FrameMetrics, mIsRelative, indicating whether the
scroll offset can be combined with a potential APZ scroll. When this
flag is set, AsyncPanZoomController will apply the delta between the sent
base scroll offset, and sent new scroll offset.

This flag is controlled by the last scroll origin on nsGfxScrollFrame. The
new origin, `relative`, is marked as being able to clobber APZ updates,
but can only be set if all scrolls since the last repaint request or
layers transaction have been relative.

Nicholas Nethercote 7398ecce66 Bug 1449787 - Make static atom pointers `constexpr`. r=froydnj,emilio
This saves one word per static atom, per process.

The `nsGkAtoms` change is only a small part of this commit.

In regen_atoms.py:

- There is now only one link name per platform: nsGkAtoms::sAtoms[].

- But there is a new constant per atom, giving the index into
  nsGkAtoms::sAtoms[].

- And the `atom!` macro for each atom indexes into nsGkAtoms::sAtoms[] using
  the index constant.

- A couple of `*mut` pointers are now `*const`.

Elsewhere, the `(nsStaticAtom*)` casts within the `AppendElement()` calls are
necessary to avoid link errors, presumably due to some template instantiation
wrinkle.

Nicholas Nethercote e35d805828 Bug 1494515 - Clean up static atom registration. r=froydnj
Static atom registration is a bit of a mess. NS_InitAtomTable() calls
nsGkAtoms::RegisterStaticAtoms(), which calls NS_RegisterStaticAtoms(); i.e. we
go from nsAtomTable.cpp to nsGkAtoms.cpp and back.

(And NS_RegisterStaticAtoms() is declared in a .cpp file, not a .h file!)

This commit makes NS_InitAtomTable() a friend of nsGkAtoms, so NS_InitAtomTable
can see nsGkAtoms's atoms array directly, thus removing the need for
NS_RegisterAtomTable() and nsGkAtoms::RegisterStaticAtoms().

This commit also removes an out-of-date part of a comment from XPCOMInit.cpp.

Nicholas Nethercote dd61fd6ccf Bug 1494515 - Rework the comments about static atoms. r=froydnj
nsGkAtoms.h has a big comment explaining how static atom definitions get
expanded by macros. This comment was very useful when there were multiple
sources of static atoms and their definitions used macros a lot. But bug
1482782 combined all the static atom sources into nsGkAtoms and removed a lot
of macro use. So now the comment is now something of a hindrance, duplicating
quite a bit of the code (and not entirely accurately).

This commit removes the big comment, and moves the still-useful parts inline
with the code. This makes things much easier to follow.

This commit also reformats some of the remaining macros so they are easier to
read.

Nathan Froyd e7b3b3140d Bug 1415980 - make hash keys movable and not copyable; r=erahm
Everything that goes in a PLDHashtable (and its derivatives, like
nsTHashtable) needs to inherit from PLDHashEntryHdr. But through a lack
of enforcement, copy constructors for these derived classes didn't
explicitly invoke the copy constructor for PLDHashEntryHdr (and the
compiler didn't invoke the copy constructor for us). Instead,
PLDHashTable explicitly copied around the bits that the copy constructor
would have.

The current setup has two problems:

1) Derived classes should be using move construction, not copy
construction, since anything that's shuffling hash table keys/entries
around will be using move construction.

2) Derived classes should take responsibility for transferring bits of
superclass state around, and not rely on something else to handle that.

The second point is not a huge problem for PLDHashTable (PLDHashTable
only has to copy PLDHashEntryHdr's bits in a single place), but future
hash table implementations that might move entries around more
aggressively would have to insert compensation code all over the
place. Additionally, if moving entries is implemented via memcpy (which
is quite common), PLDHashTable copying around bits *again* is
inefficient.

Let's fix all these problems in one go, by:

1) Explicitly declaring the set of constructors that PLDHashEntryHdr
implements (and does not implement). In particular, the copy
constructor is deleted, so any derived classes that attempt to make
themselves copyable will be detected at compile time: the compiler
will complain that the superclass type is not copyable.

This change on its own will result in many compiler errors, so...

2) Change any derived classes to implement move constructors instead of
copy constructors. Note that some of these move constructors are,
strictly speaking, unnecessary, since the relevant classes are moved
via memcpy in nsTHashtable and its derivatives.
