The hack to delete strings which are being received in the status messages is a work around the current limitation of the proxy event code. When bug # 16273 is fixed that delete wont be necessary. In fixing this I also noticed that the nsFileTransport wasn't using the proxy events and was incorrectly firing status messages directly onto the UI thread.
