Doug Berger 193f7fffdc serial: 8250_bcm7271: Fix arbitration handling

The arbitration of the UART DMA is mishandled for a few
exceptional cases when probing and releasing the driver.

It is possible that the DMA register spaces are not defined in
device tree for an instance of the driver, so attempts to access
the registers in brcmuart_arbitration() would use NULL pointers.

It is also possible for the probe function to return an error
while still holding the UART DMA. This would prevent the UART
DMA from being claimed by an instance that could use it.

These errors are addressed by only releasing the UART DMA if it
is held by this instance (i.e. priv->dma_enabled == 1) and
directing early error paths in probe to this common release_dma
handling.

Marek Vasut 72b1ce9045 serial: stm32: Re-assert RTS/DE GPIO in RS485 mode only if more data are transmitted

The stm32_usart_transmit_chars() may be called with empty or stopped
transmit queue, and no XON/OFF character pending. This can happen at
the end of transmission, where this last call is used to either handle
the XON/XOFF x_char, or disable TX interrupt if queue is empty or
stopped.

If that occurs, do not assert the RS485 RTS/DE GPIO anymore, as the
GPIO would remain asserted past the end of transmission and that would
block the RS485 bus after the transmission.

Only assert the RS485 RTS/DE GPIO if there is either pending XON/XOFF
x_char, or at least one character in running transmit queue.

Erwan Le Ray 59ed254dd3 serial: stm32: re-introduce an irq flag condition in usart_receive_chars

Re-introduce an irq flag condition in usart_receive_chars.
This condition has been deleted by commit 75f4e830fa ("serial: do not
restore interrupt state in sysrq helper").
This code was present to handle threaded case, and has been removed
because it is no more needed in this case. Nevertheless an irq safe lock
is still needed in some cases, when DMA should be stopped to receive errors
or breaks in PIO mode.
This patch is a precursor to the complete rework or stm32 serial driver
DMA implementation.

Sherry Sun ba3a88b444 tty: serial: fsl_lpuart: avoid checking for transfer complete when UARTCTRL_SBK is asserted in lpuart32_tx_empty
commit 9425914f3d upstream.

According to LPUART RM, Transmission Complete Flag becomes 0 if queuing
a break character by writing 1 to CTRL[SBK], so here need to avoid
checking for transmission complete when UARTCTRL_SBK is asserted,
otherwise the lpuart32_tx_empty may never get TIOCSER_TEMT.

Commit 2411fd94ceaa("tty: serial: fsl_lpuart: skip waiting for
transmission complete when UARTCTRL_SBK is asserted") only fix it in
lpuart32_set_termios(), here also fix it in lpuart32_tx_empty().

Randy Dunlap 09b51f10bc serial: 8250: ASPEED_VUART: select REGMAP instead of depending on it

REGMAP is a hidden (not user visible) symbol. Users cannot set it
directly thru "make *config", so drivers should select it instead of
depending on it if they need it.

Consistently using "select" or "depends on" can also help reduce
Kconfig circular dependency issues.

Therefore, change the use of "depends on REGMAP" to "select REGMAP".

Geert Uytterhoeven cfb64de61f serial: 8250: SERIAL_8250_ASPEED_VUART should depend on ARCH_ASPEED

The Aspeed Virtual UART is only present on Aspeed BMC platforms.  Hence
add a dependency on ARCH_ASPEED, to prevent asking the user about this
driver when configuring a kernel without Aspeed BMC support.

Johan Hovold 250a11f9c4 serial: 8250_fsl: fix handle_irq locking
commit 6e01f9a594 upstream.

The 8250 handle_irq callback is not just called from the interrupt
handler but also from a timer callback when polling (e.g. for ports
without an interrupt line). Consequently the callback must explicitly
disable interrupts to avoid a potential deadlock with another interrupt
in polled mode.

Fix up the two paths in the freescale callback that failed to re-enable
interrupts when polling.

As per HW manual for  EMEV2 "R19UH0040EJ0400 Rev.4.00", the UART
IP found on EMMA mobile SoC is Register-compatible with the
general-purpose 16750 UART chip. Fix UART port type as 16750 and

And actually set_termios() adds transmission completion waiting to avoid
data loss or data breakage when changing the baud rate, but we don't
need to worry about this when queuing break characters.

This patch moves the setup of the GPIO controller functions to later in the
probe function, ensuring the sc16is7xx device has already finished
initialising by the time other devices try to make use of the GPIO lines.

Sherry Sun 45083b8614 tty: serial: fsl_lpuart: disable the CTS when send break signal
[ Upstream commit c4c81db5cf ]

LPUART IP has a bug that it treats the CTS as higher priority than the
break signal, which cause the break signal sending through UARTCTRL_SBK
may impacted by the CTS input if the HW flow control is enabled.

Add this workaround patch to fix the IP bug, we can disable CTS before
asserting SBK to avoid any interference from CTS, and re-enable it when
break off.

Such as for the bluetooth chip power save feature, host can let the BT
chip get into sleep state by sending a UART break signal, and wake it up
by turning off the UART break. If the BT chip enters the sleep mode
successfully, it will pull up the CTS line, if the BT chip is woken up,
it will pull down the CTS line. If without this workaround patch, the
UART TX pin cannot send the break signal successfully as it affected by
the BT CTS pin. After adding this patch, the BT power save feature can
work well.

The issue only happends in the inmate linux when Jailhouse hypervisor
enabled. The test procedure is:
while true; do
	jailhouse enable imx8mp.cell
	jailhouse cell linux xxxx
	sleep 10
	jailhouse cell destroy 1
	jailhouse disable
	sleep 5
done

And during the upper test, press keys to the 2nd linux console.
When `jailhouse cell destroy 1`, the 2nd linux has no chance to put
the uart to a quiese state, so USR1/2 may has pending interrupts. Then
when `jailhosue cell linux xx` to start 2nd linux again, the issue
trigger.

In order to disable irqs before requesting them, both UCR1 and UCR2 irqs
should be disabled, so here fix that, disable the Ageing Timer interrupt
in UCR2 as UCR1 does.

Marek Vasut 908e091e1b tty: serial: imx: Handle RS485 DE signal active high

The default polarity of RS485 DE signal is active high. This driver does
not handle such case properly. Currently, when a pin is multiplexed as a
UART CTS_B on boot, this pin is pulled HIGH by the i.MX UART CTS circuit,
which activates DE signal on the RS485 transceiver and thus behave as if
the RS485 was transmitting data, so the system blocks the RS485 bus when
it starts and until user application takes over. This behavior is not OK.
The problem consists of two separate parts.

First, the i.MX UART IP requires UCR1 UARTEN and UCR2 RXEN to be set for
UCR2 CTSC and CTS bits to have any effect. The UCR2 CTSC bit permits the
driver to set CTS (RTS_B or RS485 DE signal) to either level sychronous
to the internal UART IP clock. Compared to other options, like GPIO CTS
control, this has the benefit of being synchronous to the UART IP clock
and thus without glitches or bus delays. The reason for the CTS design
is likely because when the Receiver is disabled, the UART IP can never
indicate that it is ready to receive data by assering CTS signal, so
the CTS is always pulled HIGH by default.

When the port is closed by user space, imx_uart_stop_rx() clears UCR2
RXEN bit, and imx_uart_shutdown() clears UCR1 UARTEN bit. This disables
UART Receiver and UART itself, and forces CTS signal HIGH, which leads
to the RS485 bus being blocked because RS485 DE is incorrectly active.

The proposed solution for this problem is to keep the Receiver running
even after the port is closed, but in loopback mode. This disconnects
the RX FIFO input from the RXD external signal, and since UCR2 TXEN is
cleared, the UART Transmitter is disabled, so nothing can feed data in
the RX FIFO. Because the Receiver is still enabled, the UCR2 CTSC and
CTS bits still have effect and the CTS (RS485 DE) control is retained.

Note that in case of RS485 DE signal active low, there is no problem and
no special handling is necessary. The CTS signal defaults to HIGH, thus
the RS485 is by default set to Receive and the bus is not blocked.

Note that while there is the possibility to control CTS using GPIO with
either CTS polarity, this has the downside of not being synchronous to
the UART IP clock and thus glitchy and susceptible to slow DE switching.

Second, on boot, before the UART driver probe callback is called, the
driver core triggers pinctrl_init_done() and configures the IOMUXC to
default state. At this point, UCR1 UARTEN and UCR2 RXEN are both still
cleared, but UART CTS_B (RS485 DE) is configured as CTS function, thus
the RTS signal is pulled HIGH by the UART IP CTS circuit.

One part of the solution here is to enable UCR1 UARTEN and UCR2 RXEN and
UTS loopback in this driver probe callback, thus unblocking the CTSC and
CTS control early on. But this is still too late, since the pin control
is already configured and CTS has been pulled HIGH for a short period
of time.

When Linux kernel boots and this driver is bound, the pin control is set
to special "init" state if the state is available, and driver can switch
the "default" state afterward when ready. This state can be used to set
the CTS line as a GPIO in DT temporarily, and a GPIO hog can force such
GPIO to LOW, thus keeping the RS485 DE line LOW early on boot. Once the
driver takes over and UCR1 UARTEN and UCR2 RXEN and UTS loopback are all
enabled, the driver can switch to "default" pin control state and control
the CTS line as function instead. DT binding example is below:

The RXWATER value must be greater than 0 according to the LPUART
reference manual. And when the number of datawords in the receive

directly.

As DMA Rx can be completed from two places, it is possible that DMA Rx
completes before DMA completion callback had a chance to complete it.
Once the previous DMA Rx has been completed, a new one can be started
on the next UART interrupt. The following race is possible
(uart_unlock_and_check_sysrq_irqrestore() replaced with
spin_unlock_irqrestore() for simplicity/clarity):

Ilpo Järvinen e30328f599 serial: 8250_dma: Fix DMA Rx completion race

__dma_rx_complete() is called from two places:
  - Through the DMA completion callback dma_rx_complete()
  - From serial8250_rx_dma_flush() after IIR_RLSI or IIR_RX_TIMEOUT
The former does not hold port's lock during __dma_rx_complete() which
allows these two to race and potentially insert the same data twice.

Extend port's lock coverage in dma_rx_complete() to prevent the race
and check if the DMA Rx is still pending completion before calling
into __dma_rx_complete().

Tobias Schramm b8d99cda52 serial: atmel: fix incorrect baudrate setup
commit 5bfdd3c654 upstream.

Commit ba47f97a18 ("serial: core: remove baud_rates when serial console
setup") changed uart_set_options to select the correct baudrate
configuration based on the absolute error between requested baudrate and
available standard baudrate settings.
Prior to that commit the baudrate was selected based on which predefined
standard baudrate did not exceed the requested baudrate.
This change of selection logic was never reflected in the atmel serial
driver. Thus the comment left in the atmel serial driver is no longer
accurate.
Additionally the manual rounding up described in that comment and applied
via (quot - 1) requests an incorrect baudrate. Since uart_set_options uses
tty_termios_encode_baud_rate to determine the appropriate baudrate flags
this can cause baudrate selection to fail entirely because
tty_termios_encode_baud_rate will only select a baudrate if relative error
between requested and selected baudrate does not exceed +/-2%.
Fix that by requesting actual, exact baudrate used by the serial.

Ilpo Järvinen 73337724cb serial: pch_uart: Pass correct sg to dma_unmap_sg()

A local variable sg is used to store scatterlist pointer in
pch_dma_tx_complete(). The for loop doing Tx byte accounting before
dma_unmap_sg() alters sg in its increment statement. Therefore, the
pointer passed into dma_unmap_sg() won't match to the one given to
dma_map_sg().

To fix the problem, use priv->sg_tx_p directly in dma_unmap_sg()
instead of the local variable.

Driver's probe allocates memory for RX FIFO (port->rx_fifo) based on
default RX FIFO depth, e.g. 16.  Later during serial startup the
qcom_geni_serial_port_setup() updates the RX FIFO depth
(port->rx_fifo_depth) to match real device capabilities, e.g. to 32.

The RX UART handle code will read "port->rx_fifo_depth" number of words

Rasmus Villemoes 068b512193 serial: fixup backport of "serial: Deassert Transmit Enable on probe in driver-specific way"
When 7c7f9bc986 ("serial: Deassert Transmit Enable on probe in
driver-specific way") got backported to 5.15.y, there known as
b079d37752, some hunks were accidentally left out.

In fsl_lpuart.c, this amounts to uart_remove_one_port() being called
in an error path despite uart_add_one_port() not having been called.

In serial_core.c, it is possible that the omission in
uart_suspend_port() is harmless, but the backport did have the
corresponding hunk in uart_resume_port(), it runs counter to the
original commit's intention of

  Skip any invocation of ->set_mctrl() if RS485 is enabled.

and it's certainly better to be aligned with upstream.

Chapter "B Generic UART" in "ARM Server Base System Architecture" [1]
documentation describes a generic UART interface. Such generic UART
does not support DMA. In current code, sbsa_uart_pops and
amba_pl011_pops share the same stop_rx operation, which will invoke
pl011_dma_rx_stop, leading to an access of the DMACR register. This
commit adds a using_rx_dma check in pl011_dma_rx_stop to avoid the
access to DMACR register for SBSA UARTs which does not support DMA.

When the kernel enables DMA engine with "CONFIG_DMA_ENGINE=y", Linux
SBSA PL011 driver will access PL011 DMACR register in some functions.
For most real SBSA Pl011 hardware implementations, the DMACR write
behaviour will be ignored. So these DMACR operations will not cause
obvious problems. But for some virtual SBSA PL011 hardware, like Xen
virtual SBSA PL011 (vpl011) device, the behaviour might be different.
Xen vpl011 emulation will inject a data abort to guest, when guest is
accessing an unimplemented UART register. As Xen VPL011 is SBSA
compatible, it will not implement DMACR register. So when Linux SBSA
PL011 driver access DMACR register, it will get an unhandled data abort
fault and the application will get a segmentation fault:

A problem about 8250_bcm7271 create debugfs failed is triggered with the
following log given:

The reason is that brcmuart_init() returns platform_driver_register()
directly without checking its return value, if platform_driver_register()
failed, it returns without destroy the newly created debugfs, resulting
the debugfs of 8250_bcm7271 can never be created later.

Lukas Wunner db3f8da033 serial: stm32: Deassert Transmit Enable on ->rs485_config()

The STM32 USART can control RS-485 Transmit Enable in hardware.  Since
commit 7df5081cbf ("serial: stm32: Add RS485 RTS GPIO control"),
it can alternatively be controlled in software.  That was done to allow
RS-485 even if the RTS pin is unavailable because it's pinmuxed to a
different function.

However the commit neglected to deassert Transmit Enable upon invocation
of the ->rs485_config() callback.  Fix it.

Avoid forward declarations by moving stm32_usart_tx_empty(),
stm32_usart_rs485_rts_enable() and stm32_usart_rs485_rts_disable()
further up in the driver.

Lukas Wunner e2223f5fbb serial: 8250: 8250_omap: Avoid RS485 RTS glitch on ->set_termios()

RS485-enabled UART ports on TI Sitara SoCs with active-low polarity
exhibit a Transmit Enable glitch on ->set_termios():

omap8250_restore_regs(), which is called from omap_8250_set_termios(),
sets the TCRTLR bit in the MCR register and clears all other bits,
including RTS.  If RTS uses active-low polarity, it is now asserted
for no reason.

The TCRTLR bit is subsequently cleared by writing up->mcr to the MCR
register.  That variable is always zero, so the RTS bit is still cleared
(incorrectly so if RTS is active-high).

(up->mcr is not, as one might think, a cache of the MCR register's
current value.  Rather, it only caches a single bit of that register,
the AFE bit.  And it only does so if the UART supports the AFE bit,
which OMAP does not.  For details see serial8250_do_set_termios() and
serial8250_do_set_mctrl().)

Finally at the end of omap8250_restore_regs(), the MCR register is
restored (and RTS deasserted) by a call to up->port.ops->set_mctrl()
(which equals serial8250_set_mctrl()) and serial8250_em485_stop_tx().

So there's an RTS glitch between setting TCRTLR and calling
serial8250_em485_stop_tx().  Avoid by using a read-modify-write
when setting TCRTLR.

While at it, drop a redundant initialization of up->mcr.  As explained
above, the variable isn't used by the driver and it is already
initialized to zero because it is part of the static struct
serial8250_ports[] declared in 8250_core.c.  (Static structs are
initialized to zero per section 6.7.8 nr. 10 of the C99 standard.)

lpuart_global_reset() shouldn't break the on-going transmit engine, need
to recover the on-going data transfer after reset.

This can help earlycon here, since commit 60f361722a ("serial:
fsl_lpuart: Reset prior to registration") moved lpuart_global_reset()
before uart_add_one_port(), earlycon is writing during global reset,
as global reset will disable the TX and clear the baud rate register,
which caused the earlycon cannot work any more after reset, needs to
restore the baud rate and re-enable the transmitter to recover the
earlycon write.

Also move the lpuart_global_reset() down, then we can reuse the
lpuart32_tx_empty() without declaration.

Configure DMA to use 16B burst size with Elkhart Lake. This makes the
bus use more efficient and works around an issue which occurs with the
previously used 1B.

The fix was initially developed by Srikanth Thokala and Aman Kumar.
This together with the previous config change is the cleaned up version
of the original fix.

Returning true from handle_rx_dma() without flushing DMA first creates
a data ordering hazard. If DMA Rx has handled any character at the
point when RLSI occurs, the non-DMA path handles any pending characters

Ilpo Järvinen 118b52c2ae serial: 8250: Fall back to non-DMA Rx if IIR_RDI occurs
commit a931237cbe upstream.

DW UART sometimes triggers IIR_RDI during DMA Rx when IIR_RX_TIMEOUT
should have been triggered instead. Since IIR_RDI has higher priority
than IIR_RX_TIMEOUT, this causes the Rx to hang into interrupt loop.
The problem seems to occur at least with some combinations of
small-sized transfers (I've reproduced the problem on Elkhart Lake PSE
UARTs).

If there's already an on-going Rx DMA and IIR_RDI triggers, fall
graciously back to non-DMA Rx. That is, behave as if IIR_RX_TIMEOUT had
occurred.

8250_omap already considers IIR_RDI similar to this change so its
nothing unheard of.

Matthias Schiffer 83b6d4d6da serial: 8250_omap: remove wait loop from Errata i202 workaround

We were occasionally seeing the "Errata i202: timedout" on an AM335x
board when repeatedly opening and closing a UART connected to an active
sender. As new input may arrive at any time, it is possible to miss the
"RX FIFO empty" condition, forcing the loop to wait until it times out.

Nothing in the i202 Advisory states that such a wait is even necessary;
other FIFO clear functions like serial8250_clear_fifos() do not wait
either. For this reason, it seems safe to remove the wait, fixing the
mentioned issue.

resume path when restoring the registers.

Helge Deller 5daf985dd0 parisc: Make 8250_gsc driver dependend on CONFIG_PARISC
commit e8a18e3f00 upstream.

Although the name of the driver 8250_gsc.c suggests that it handles
only serial ports on the GSC bus, it does handle serial ports listed
in the parisc machine inventory as well, e.g. the serial ports in a
C8000 PCI-only workstation.

Change the dependency to CONFIG_PARISC, so that the driver gets included
in the kernel even if CONFIG_GSC isn't set.

Lukas Wunner b079d37752 serial: Deassert Transmit Enable on probe in driver-specific way
commit 7c7f9bc986 upstream.

When a UART port is newly registered, uart_configure_port() seeks to
deassert RS485 Transmit Enable by setting the RTS bit in port->mctrl.
However a number of UART drivers interpret a set RTS bit as *assertion*
instead of deassertion:  Affected drivers include those using
serial8250_em485_config() (except 8250_bcm2835aux.c) and some using
mctrl_gpio (e.g. imx.c).

Since the interpretation of the RTS bit is driver-specific, it is not
suitable as a means to centrally deassert Transmit Enable in the serial
core.  Instead, the serial core must call on drivers to deassert it in
their driver-specific way.  One way to achieve that is to call
->rs485_config().  It implicitly deasserts Transmit Enable.

So amend uart_configure_port() and uart_resume_port() to invoke
uart_rs485_config().  That allows removing calls to uart_rs485_config()
from drivers' ->probe() hooks and declaring the function static.

Skip any invocation of ->set_mctrl() if RS485 is enabled.  RS485 has no
hardware flow control, so the modem control lines are irrelevant and
need not be touched.  When leaving RS485 mode, reset the modem control
lines to the state stored in port->mctrl.  That way, UARTs which are
muxed between RS485 and RS232 transceivers drive the lines correctly
when switched to RS232.  (serial8250_do_startup() historically raises
the OUT1 modem signal because otherwise interrupts are not signaled on
ancient PC UARTs, but I believe that no longer applies to modern,
RS485-capable UARTs and is thus safe to be skipped.)

imx.c modifies port->mctrl whenever Transmit Enable is asserted and
deasserted.  Stop it from doing that so port->mctrl reflects the RS232
line state.

8250_omap.c deasserts Transmit Enable on ->runtime_resume() by calling
->set_mctrl().  Because that is now a no-op in RS485 mode, amend the
function to call serial8250_em485_stop_tx().

fsl_lpuart.c retrieves and applies the RS485 device tree properties
after registering the UART port.  Because applying now happens on
registration in uart_configure_port(), move retrieval of the properties
ahead of uart_add_one_port().

Lino Sanfilippo 63f75fea3a serial: core: move RS485 configuration tasks from drivers into core

Several drivers that support setting the RS485 configuration via userspace
implement one or more of the following tasks:

- in case of an invalid RTS configuration (both RTS after send and RTS on
  send set or both unset) fall back to enable RTS on send and disable RTS
  after send

- nullify the padding field of the returned serial_rs485 struct

- copy the configuration into the uart port struct

- limit RTS delays to 100 ms

Move these tasks into the serial core to make them generic and to provide
a consistent behaviour among all drivers.

Pali Rohár 6a54f76974 serial: 8250: Fix restoring termios speed after suspend

Since commit edc6afc549 ("tty: switch to ktermios and new framework")
termios speed is no longer stored only in c_cflag member but also in new
additional c_ispeed and c_ospeed members. If BOTHER flag is set in c_cflag
then termios speed is stored only in these new members.

Since commit 027b57170b ("serial: core: Fix initializing and restoring
termios speed") termios speed is available also in struct console.

So properly restore also c_ispeed and c_ospeed members after suspend to fix
restoring termios speed which is not represented by Bnnn constant.

lpuart_dma_shutdown tears down lpuart dma, but lpuart_flush_buffer can

flag is true. At this point since dma is torn down, these dma apis can
abort. Set lpuart_dma_tx_use and the corresponding rx flag
lpuart_dma_rx_use to false in lpuart_dma_shutdown so that dmas are not
accessed after they are relinquished.

Otherwise, when try to kill btattach, kernel may panic. This patch may
fix this issue.

Ilpo Järvinen a91a3c2d8d serial: 8250: Toggle IER bits on only after irq has been set up

Invoking TIOCVHANGUP on 8250_mid port on Ice Lake-D and then reopening
the port triggers these faults during serial8250_do_startup():

If the IRQ hasn't been set up yet, the UART will have zeroes in its MSI
address/data registers. Disabling the IRQ at the interrupt controller
won't stop the UART from performing a DMA write to the address programmed
in its MSI address register (zero) when it wants to signal an interrupt.

The UARTs (in Ice Lake-D) implement PCI 2.1 style MSI without masking
capability, so there is no way to mask the interrupt at the source PCI
function level, except disabling the MSI capability entirely, but that
would cause it to fall back to INTx# assertion, and the PCI specification
prohibits disabling the MSI capability as a way to mask a function's
interrupt service request.

The MSI address register is zeroed by the hangup as the irq is freed.
The interrupt is signalled during serial8250_do_startup() performing a
THRE test that temporarily toggles THRI in IER. The THRE test currently
occurs before UART's irq (and MSI address) is properly set up.

Refactor serial8250_do_startup() such that irq is set up before the
THRE test. The current irq setup code is intermixed with the timer
setup code. As THRE test must be performed prior to the timer setup,
extract it into own function and call it only after the THRE test.

The ->setup_timer() needs to be part of the struct uart_8250_ops in
order to not create circular dependency between 8250 and 8250_base
modules.

Oxford Semiconductor PCIe (Tornado) 950 serial port devices need to
operate in the enhanced mode via the EFR register for the Divide-by-M
N/8 baud rate generator prescaler to be used in their native UART mode.
Otherwise the prescaler is fixed at 1 causing grossly incorrect baud
rates to be programmed.

Accessing the EFR register requires 16550A features to have been probed
for, so request this to happen regardless of SERIAL_8250_16550A_VARIANTS
by setting UPF_FULL_PROBE in port flags.

A SERIAL_8250_16550A_VARIANTS configuration option has been recently
defined that lets one request the 8250 driver not to probe for 16550A
device features so as to reduce the driver's device startup time in
virtual machines.

Some actual hardware devices require these features to have been fully
determined however for their driver to work correctly, so define a flag
to let drivers request full 16550A feature probing on a device-by-device
basis if required regardless of the SERIAL_8250_16550A_VARIANTS option
setting chosen.

Lukas Wunner 4199425b11 serial: fsl_lpuart: Reset prior to registration

Since commit bd5305dcab ("tty: serial: fsl_lpuart: do software reset
for imx7ulp and imx8qxp"), certain i.MX UARTs are reset after they've
already been registered.  Register state may thus be clobbered after
user space has begun to open and access the UART.

Avoid by performing the reset prior to registration.

Sergiu Moga c23065adf9 tty: serial: atmel: Preserve previous USART mode if RS485 disabled

Whenever the atmel_rs485_config() driver method would be called,
the USART mode is reset to normal mode before even checking if
RS485 flag is set, thus resulting in losing the previous USART
mode in the case where the checking fails.

Some tools, such as `linux-serial-test`, lead to the driver calling
this method when doing the setup of the serial port: after setting the
port mode (Hardware Flow Control, Normal Mode, RS485 Mode, etc.),
`linux-serial-test` tries to enable/disable RS485 depending on
the commandline arguments that were passed.

Example of how this issue could reveal itself:
When doing a serial communication with Hardware Flow Control through
`linux-serial-test`, the tool would lead to the driver roughly doing
the following:
- set the corresponding bit to 1 (ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS bit in the
ATMEL_US_MR register) through the atmel_set_termios() to enable
Hardware Flow Control
- disable RS485 through the atmel_config_rs485() method
Thus, when the latter is called, the mode will be reset and the
previously set bit is unset, leaving USART in normal mode instead of
the expected Hardware Flow Control mode.

This fix ensures that this reset is only done if the checking for
RS485 succeeds and that the previous mode is preserved otherwise.

When the user initializes the uart port, and waits for the transmit
engine to complete in lpuart32_set_termios(), if the UART TX fifo has
dirty data and the UARTMODIR enable the flow control, the TX fifo may
never be empty. So here we should disable the flow control first to make
sure the transmit engin can complete.

Maciej W. Rozycki 6f47a7594b serial: 8250: Add proper clock handling for OxSemi PCIe devices

Oxford Semiconductor PCIe (Tornado) 950 serial port devices are driven
by a fixed 62.5MHz clock input derived from the 100MHz PCI Express clock.

We currently drive the device using its default oversampling rate of 16
and the clock prescaler disabled, consequently yielding the baud base of
3906250.  This base is inadequate for some of the high-speed baud rates
such as 460800bps, for which the closest rate possible can be obtained
by dividing the baud base by 8, yielding the baud rate of 488281.25bps,
which is off by 5.9638%.  This is enough for data communication to break
with the remote end talking actual 460800bps, where missed stop bits
have been observed.

We can do better however, by taking advantage of a reduced oversampling
rate, which can be set to any integer value from 4 to 16 inclusive by
programming the TCR register, and by using the clock prescaler, which
can be set to any value from 1 to 63.875 in increments of 0.125 in the
CPR/CPR2 register pair.  The prescaler has to be explicitly enabled
though by setting bit 7 in the MCR or otherwise it is bypassed (in the
enhanced mode that we enable) as if the value of 1 was used.

Make use of these features then as follows:

- Set the baud base to 15625000, reflecting the minimum oversampling
  rate of 4 with the clock prescaler and divisor both set to 1.

- Override the `set_mctrl' and set the MCR shadow there so as to have
  MCR[7] always set and have the 8250 core propagate these settings.

- Override the `get_divisor' handler and determine a good combination of
  parameters by using a lookup table with predetermined value pairs of
  the oversampling rate and the clock prescaler and finding a pair that
  divides the input clock such that the quotient, when rounded to the
  nearest integer, deviates the least from the exact result.  Calculate
  the clock divisor accordingly.

  Scale the resulting oversampling rate (only by powers of two) if
  possible so as to maximise it, reducing the divisor accordingly, and
  avoid a divisor overflow for very low baud rates by scaling the
  oversampling rate and/or the prescaler even if that causes some
  accuracy loss.

  Also handle the historic spd_cust feature so as to allow one to set
  all the three parameters manually to arbitrary values, by keeping the
  low 16 bits for the divisor and then putting TCR in bits 19:16 and
  CPR/CPR2 in bits 28:20, sanitising the bit pattern supplied such as
  to clamp CPR/CPR2 values between 0.000 and 0.875 inclusive to 33.875.
  This preserves compatibility with any existing setups, that is where
  requesting a custom divisor that only has any bits set among the low
  16 the oversampling rate of 16 and the clock prescaler of 33.875 will
  be used as with the original 8250.

  Finally abuse the `frac' argument to store the determined bit patterns
  for the TCR, CPR and CPR2 registers.

- Override the `set_divisor' handler so as to set the TCR, CPR and CPR2
  registers from the `frac' value supplied.  Set the divisor as usual.

With the baud base set to 15625000 and the unsigned 16-bit UART_DIV_MAX
limitation imposed by `serial8250_get_baud_rate' standard baud rates
below 300bps become unavailable in the regular way, e.g. the rate of
200bps requires the baud base to be divided by 78125 and that is beyond
the unsigned 16-bit range.  The historic spd_cust feature can still be
used to obtain such rates if so required.

Maciej W. Rozycki 96f2c1685b serial: 8250: Fold EndRun device support into OxSemi Tornado code

The EndRun PTP/1588 dual serial port device is based on the Oxford
Semiconductor OXPCIe952 UART device with the PCI vendor:device ID set
for EndRun Technologies and uses the same sequence to determine the
number of ports available.  Despite that we have duplicate code
specific to the EndRun device.

Remove redundant code then and factor out OxSemi Tornado device
detection.

Uwe Kleine-König 583cba5004 serial: 8250_fsl: Don't report FE, PE and OE twice

Some Freescale 8250 implementations have the problem that a single long
break results in one irq per character frame time. The code in
fsl8250_handle_irq() that is supposed to handle that uses the BI bit in
lsr_saved_flags to detect such a situation and then skip the second
received character. However it also stores other error bits and so after
a single frame error the character received in the next irq handling is
passed to the upper layer with a frame error, too.

So after a spike on the data line (which is correctly recognized as a
frame error) the following valid character is thrown away, because the
driver reports a frame error for that one, too.

To weaken this problem restrict saving LSR to only the BI bit.

Note however that the handling is still broken:

 - lsr_saved_flags is updated using orig_lsr which is the LSR content
   for the first received char, but there might be more in the FIFO, so
   a character is thrown away that is received later and not necessarily
   the one following the break.
 - The doubled break might be the 2nd and 3rd char in the FIFO, so the
   workaround doesn't catch these, because serial8250_rx_chars() doesn't
   handle the workaround.
 - lsr_saved_flags might have set UART_LSR_BI at the entry of
   fsl8250_handle_irq() which doesn't originate from
   fsl8250_handle_irq()'s "up->lsr_saved_flags |= orig_lsr &
   UART_LSR_BI;" but from e.g. from serial8250_tx_empty().
 - For a long or a short break this isn't about two characters, but more
   or only a single one.

function is called from a low-level out function and therefore cannot

characters should be arriving.

Make ICR access helpers available outside 8250_port.c, however retain
them as ordinary static functions so as not to regress code generation.

This is because `serial_icr_write' is currently automatically inlined by
GCC, however `serial_icr_read' is not.  Making them both static inline
would grow code produced, e.g.:

Pali Rohár be56f007c4 serial: mvebu-uart: correctly report configured baudrate value

Functions tty_termios_encode_baud_rate() and uart_update_timeout() should
be called with the baudrate value which was set to hardware. Linux then
report exact values via ioctl(TCGETS2) to userspace.

Change mvebu_uart_baud_rate_set() function to return baudrate value which
was set to hardware and propagate this value to above mentioned functions.

With this change userspace would see precise value in termios c_ospeed
field.

The code lacks clearing of previous DEAT/DEDT values. Thus, changing
values on the fly results in garbage delays tending towards the maximum
value as more and more bits are ORed together. (Leaving RS485 mode

Yi Yang 10b27fa2d6 serial: 8250: fix return error code in serial8250_request_std_resource()

If port->mapbase = NULL in serial8250_request_std_resource() , it need
return a error code instead of 0. If uart_set_info() fail to request new
regions by serial8250_request_std_resource() but the return value of
serial8250_request_std_resource() is 0, The system incorrectly considers
that the resource application is successful and does not attempt to
restore the old setting. A null pointer reference is triggered when the
port resource is later invoked.

It was found that some MediaTek SoCs are incompatible with this

Hui Wang 170a08ad3d serial: sc16is7xx: Clear RS485 bits in the shutdown

We tested RS485 function on an EVB which has SC16IS752, after
finishing the test, we started the RS232 function test, but found the
RTS is still working in the RS485 mode.

That is because both startup and shutdown call port_update() to set
the EFCR_REG, this will not clear the RS485 bits once the bits are set
in the reconf_rs485(). To fix it, clear the RS485 bits in shutdown.

Lukas Wunner 7c622181fa serial: core: Initialize rs485 RTS polarity already on probe
commit 2dd8a74fdd upstream.

RTS polarity of rs485-enabled ports is currently initialized on uart
open via:

tty_port_open()
  tty_port_block_til_ready()
    tty_port_raise_dtr_rts()  # if (C_BAUD(tty))
      uart_dtr_rts()
        uart_port_dtr_rts()

There's at least three problems here:

First, if no baud rate is set, RTS polarity is not initialized.
That's the right thing to do for rs232, but not for rs485, which
requires that RTS is deasserted unconditionally.

Second, if the DeviceTree property "linux,rs485-enabled-at-boot-time" is
present, RTS should be deasserted as early as possible, i.e. on probe.
Otherwise it may remain asserted until first open.

Third, even though RTS is deasserted on open and close, it may
subsequently be asserted by uart_throttle(), uart_unthrottle() or
uart_set_termios() because those functions aren't rs485-aware.
(Only uart_tiocmset() is.)

To address these issues, move RTS initialization from uart_port_dtr_rts()
to uart_configure_port().  Prevent subsequent modification of RTS
polarity by moving the existing rs485 check from uart_tiocmget() to
uart_update_mctrl().

That way, RTS is initialized on probe and then remains unmodified unless
the uart transmits data.  If rs485 is enabled at runtime (instead of at
boot) through a TIOCSRS485 ioctl(), RTS is initialized by the uart
driver's ->rs485_config() callback and then likewise remains unmodified.

The PL011 driver initializes RTS on uart open and prevents subsequent
modification in its ->set_mctrl() callback.  That code is obsoleted by
the present commit, so drop it.

Ilpo Järvinen 9b5a3b16c4 serial: 8250: Store to lsr_save_flags after lsr read
commit be03b0651f upstream.

Not all LSR register flags are preserved across reads. Therefore, LSR
readers must store the non-preserved bits into lsr_save_flags.

This fix was initially mixed into feature commit f6f586102a ("serial:
8250: Handle UART without interrupt on TEMT using em485"). However,
that feature change had a flaw and it was reverted to make room for
simpler approach providing the same feature. The embedded fix got
reverted with the feature change.

Re-add the lsr_save_flags fix and properly mark it's a fix.

use del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler
also need sport->port.lock in position (2) of thread 2. As a result,
sa1100_set_termios() will block forever.

This patch moves del_timer_sync() before spin_lock_irqsave()
in order to prevent the deadlock.

Ilpo Järvinen 8303f34e73 serial: 8250_fintek: Check SER_RS485_RTS_* only with RS485

SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND and SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND relate to behavior
within RS485 operation. The driver checks if they have the same value
which is not possible to realize with the hardware. The check is taken
regardless of SER_RS485_ENABLED flag and -EINVAL is returned when the
check fails, which creates problems.

This check makes it unnecessarily complicated to turn RS485 mode off as
simple zeroed serial_rs485 struct will trigger that equal values check.
In addition, the driver itself memsets its rs485 structure to zero when
RS485 is disabled but if userspace would try to make an TIOCSRS485
ioctl() call with the very same struct, it would end up failing with
-EINVAL which doesn't make much sense.

Resolve the problem by moving the check inside SER_RS485_ENABLED block.

John Ogness 4c96e6aeac serial: meson: acquire port->lock in startup()

The uart_ops startup() callback is called without interrupts
disabled and without port->lock locked, relatively late during the
boot process (from the call path of console_on_rootfs()). If the
device is a console, it was already previously registered and could
be actively printing messages.

Since the startup() callback is reading/writing registers used by
the console write() callback (AML_UART_CONTROL), its access must
be synchronized using the port->lock. Currently it is not.

The startup() callback is the only function that explicitly enables
interrupts. Without the synchronization, it is possible that
interrupts become accidentally permanently disabled.

Maciej W. Rozycki cbf9172eb6 serial: sifive: Report actual baud base rather than fixed 115200

The base baud value reported is supposed to be the highest baud rate
that can be set for a serial port.  The SiFive FU740-C000 SOC's on-chip
UART supports baud rates of up to 1/16 of the input clock rate, which is
the bus clock `tlclk'[1], often at 130MHz in the case of the HiFive
Unmatched board.

However the sifive UART driver reports a fixed value of 115200 instead:

10010000.serial: ttySIF0 at MMIO 0x10010000 (irq = 1, base_baud = 115200) is a SiFive UART v0
10011000.serial: ttySIF1 at MMIO 0x10011000 (irq = 2, base_baud = 115200) is a SiFive UART v0

even though we already support setting higher baud rates, e.g.:

$ tty
/dev/ttySIF1
$ stty speed
230400

The baud base value is computed by the serial core by dividing the UART
clock recorded in `struct uart_port' by 16, which is also the minimum
value of the clock divider supported, so correct the baud base value
reported by setting the UART clock recorded to the input clock rate
rather than 115200:

10010000.serial: ttySIF0 at MMIO 0x10010000 (irq = 1, base_baud = 8125000) is a SiFive UART v0
10011000.serial: ttySIF1 at MMIO 0x10011000 (irq = 2, base_baud = 8125000) is a SiFive UART v0

Now fsl_lpuart driver use both of_alias_get_id() and ida_simple_get() in
.probe(), which has the potential bug. For example, when remove the
lpuart7 alias in dts, of_alias_get_id() will return error, then call
ida_simple_get() to allocate the id 0 for lpuart7, this may confilct
with the lpuart4 which has alias 0.

    aliases {
	...
        serial0 = &lpuart4;
        serial1 = &lpuart5;
        serial2 = &lpuart6;
        serial3 = &lpuart7;
    }

So remove the ida_simple_get() in .probe(), return an error directly
when calling of_alias_get_id() fails, which is consistent with other
uart drivers behavior.

Jiri Slaby 339ddef25f serial: pch: don't overwrite xmit->buf[0] by x_char

When x_char is to be sent, the TX path overwrites whatever is in the
circular buffer at offset 0 with x_char and sends it using
pch_uart_hal_write(). I don't understand how this was supposed to work
if xmit->buf[0] already contained some character. It must have been
lost.

Remove this whole pop_tx_x() concept and do the work directly in the
callers. (Without printing anything using dev_dbg().)

AngeloGioacchino Del Regno d01eb92f8b serial: 8250_mtk: Fix UART_EFR register address

On MediaTek SoCs, the UART IP is 16550A compatible, but there are some
specific quirks: we are declaring a register shift of 2, but this is
only valid for the majority of the registers, as there are some that
are out of the standard layout.

Specifically, this driver is using definitions from serial_reg.h, where
we have a UART_EFR register defined as 2: this results in a 0x8 offset,
but there we have the FCR register instead.

The right offset for the EFR register on MediaTek UART is at 0x98,
so, following the decimal definition convention in serial_reg.h and
accounting for the register left shift of two, add and use the correct
register address for this IP, defined as decimal 38, so that the final
calculation results in (0x26 << 2) = 0x98.

Maciej W. Rozycki 03cab849da serial: 8250: Correct the clock for EndRun PTP/1588 PCIe device
commit 637674fa40 upstream.

The EndRun PTP/1588 dual serial port device is based on the Oxford
Semiconductor OXPCIe952 UART device with the PCI vendor:device ID set
for EndRun Technologies and is therefore driven by a fixed 62.5MHz clock
input derived from the 100MHz PCI Express clock.  The clock rate is
divided by the oversampling rate of 16 as it is supplied to the baud
rate generator, yielding the baud base of 3906250.

Replace the incorrect baud base of 4000000 with the right value of
3906250 then, complementing commit 6cbe45d8ac ("serial: 8250: Correct
the clock for OxSemi PCIe devices").

Sticky MCR bits are lost in console restoration if console suspending
has been disabled.  This currently affects the AFE bit, which works in

Lino Sanfilippo ac55cac5dc serial: amba-pl011: do not time out prematurely when draining tx fifo
commit 0e4deb56b0 upstream.

The current timeout for draining the tx fifo in RS485 mode is calculated by
multiplying the time it takes to transmit one character (with the given
baud rate) with the maximal number of characters in the tx queue.

This timeout is too short for two reasons:
First when calculating the time to transmit one character integer division
is used which may round down the result in case of a remainder of the
division.

Fix this by rounding up the division result.

Second the hardware may need additional time (e.g for first putting the
characters from the fifo into the shift register) before the characters are
actually put onto the wire.

To be on the safe side double the current maximum number of iterations
that are used to wait for the queue draining.

Johan Hovold 858d93280e serial: imx: fix overrun interrupts in DMA mode
commit 3ee82c6e41 upstream.

Commit 76821e222c ("serial: imx: ensure that RX irqs are off if RX is
off") accidentally enabled overrun interrupts unconditionally when
deferring DMA enable until after the receiver has been enabled during
startup.

Fix this by using the DMA-initialised instead of DMA-enabled flag to
determine whether overrun interrupts should be enabled.

Note that overrun interrupts are already accounted for in
imx_uart_clear_rx_errors() when using DMA since commit 41d98b5da9
("serial: imx-serial - update RX error counters when DMA is used").

Jiri Slaby 053bbff873 serial: samsung_tty: do not unlock port->lock for uart_write_wakeup()
[ Upstream commit 988c7c0069 ]

The commit c15c3747ee (serial: samsung: fix potential soft lockup
during uart write) added an unlock of port->lock before
uart_write_wakeup() and a lock after it. It was always problematic to
write data from tty_ldisc_ops::write_wakeup and it was even documented
that way. We fixed the line disciplines to conform to this recently.
So if there is still a missed one, we should fix them instead of this
workaround.

On the top of that, s3c24xx_serial_tx_dma_complete() in this driver
still holds the port->lock while calling uart_write_wakeup().

So revert the wrap added by the commit above.

Ilpo Järvinen 16e3238047 serial: 8250: fix XOFF/XON sending when DMA is used

When 8250 UART is using DMA, x_char (XON/XOFF) is never sent
to the wire. After this change, x_char is injected correctly.

Create uart_xchar_out() helper for sending the x_char out and
accounting related to it. It seems that almost every driver
does these same steps with x_char. Except for 8250, however,
almost all currently lack .serial_out so they cannot immediately
take advantage of this new helper.

The downside of this patch is that it might reintroduce
the problems some devices faced with mixed DMA/non-DMA transfer
which caused revert f967fc8f16 (Revert "serial: 8250_dma:
don't bother DMA with small transfers"). However, the impact
should be limited to cases with XON/XOFF (that didn't work
with DMA capable devices to begin with so this problem is not
very likely to cause a major issue, if any at all).

Randy Dunlap a885e17cf5 kgdboc: fix return value of __setup handler

__setup() handlers should return 1 to obsolete_checksetup() in
init/main.c to indicate that the boot option has been handled.
A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown
kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) environment strings.
So return 1 from kgdboc_option_setup().

Unknown kernel command line parameters "BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage-517rc7
  kgdboc=kbd kgdbts=", will be passed to user space.

Uwe Kleine-König 3e843460fb serial: 8250: Fix race condition in RTS-after-send handling

Set em485->active_timer = NULL isn't always enough to take out the stop
timer. While there is a check that it acts in the right state (i.e.
waiting for RTS-after-send to pass after sending some chars) but the
following might happen:

 - CPU1: some chars send, shifter becomes empty, stop tx timer armed
 - CPU0: more chars send before RTS-after-send expired
 - CPU0: shifter empty irq, port lock taken
 - CPU1: tx timer triggers, waits for port lock
 - CPU0: em485->active_timer = &em485->stop_tx_timer, hrtimer_start(),
   releases lock()
 - CPU1: get lock, see em485->active_timer == &em485->stop_tx_timer,
   tear down RTS too early

This fix bases on research done by Steffen Trumtrar.

Zev Weiss d6c4fc0d90 serial: 8250_aspeed_vuart: add PORT_ASPEED_VUART port type

Commit 54da3e381c ("serial: 8250_aspeed_vuart: use UPF_IOREMAP to
set up register mapping") fixed a bug that had, as a side-effect,
prevented the 8250_aspeed_vuart driver from enabling the VUART's
FIFOs.  However, fixing that (and hence enabling the FIFOs) has in
turn revealed what appears to be a hardware bug in the ASPEED VUART in
which the host-side THRE bit doesn't get if the BMC-side receive FIFO
trigger level is set to anything but one byte.  This causes problems
for polled-mode writes from the host -- for example, Linux kernel
console writes proceed at a glacial pace (less than 100 bytes per
second) because the write path waits for a 10ms timeout to expire
after every character instead of being able to continue on to the next
character upon seeing THRE asserted.  (GRUB behaves similarly.)

As a workaround, introduce a new port type for the ASPEED VUART that's
identical to PORT_16550A as it had previously been using, but with
UART_FCR_R_TRIG_00 instead to set the receive FIFO trigger level to
one byte, which (experimentally) seems to avoid the problematic THRE
behavior.

Phil Elwell 4e508c5935 sc16is7xx: Fix for incorrect data being transmitted
commit eebb0f4e89 upstream.

UART drivers are meant to use the port spinlock within certain
methods, to protect against reentrancy. The sc16is7xx driver does
very little locking, presumably because when added it triggers
"scheduling while atomic" errors. This is due to the use of mutexes
within the regmap abstraction layer, and the mutex implementation's
habit of sleeping the current thread while waiting for access.
Unfortunately this lack of interlocking can lead to corruption of
outbound data, which occurs when the buffer used for I2C transmission
is used simultaneously by two threads - a work queue thread running
sc16is7xx_tx_proc, and an IRQ thread in sc16is7xx_port_irq, both
of which can call sc16is7xx_handle_tx.

An earlier patch added efr_lock, a mutex that controls access to the
EFR register. This mutex is already claimed in the IRQ handler, and
all that is required is to claim the same mutex in sc16is7xx_tx_proc.

There is a build error when using a kernel .config file from
'kernel test robot' for a different build problem:

(.data.rel.ro+0x18): undefined reference to `iosapic_serial_irq'

when:
  CONFIG_GSC=y
  CONFIG_SERIO_GSCPS2=y
  CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_GSC=y
  CONFIG_PCI is not set
    and hence PCI_LBA is not set.
  IOSAPIC depends on PCI_LBA, so IOSAPIC is not set/enabled.

Make the use of iosapic_serial_irq() conditional to fix the build error.

Robert Hancock f79903783d serial: 8250: of: Fix mapped region size when using reg-offset property
commit d06b1cf282 upstream.

8250_of supports a reg-offset property which is intended to handle
cases where the device registers start at an offset inside the region
of memory allocated to the device. The Xilinx 16550 UART, for which this
support was initially added, requires this. However, the code did not
adjust the overall size of the mapped region accordingly, causing the
driver to request an area of memory past the end of the device's
allocation. For example, if the UART was allocated an address of
0xb0130000, size of 0x10000 and reg-offset of 0x1000 in the device
tree, the region of memory reserved was b0131000-b0140fff, which caused
the driver for the region starting at b0140000 to fail to probe.

Fix this by subtracting reg-offset from the mapped region size.

Lukas Wunner 6f52d2531f serial: Fix incorrect rs485 polarity on uart open
commit d3b3404df3 upstream.

Commit a6845e1e1b ("serial: core: Consider rs485 settings to drive
RTS") sought to deassert RTS when opening an rs485-enabled uart port.
That way, the transceiver does not occupy the bus until it transmits
data.

Unfortunately, the commit mixed up the logic and *asserted* RTS instead
of *deasserting* it:

The commit amended uart_port_dtr_rts(), which raises DTR and RTS when
opening an rs232 port.  "Raising" actually means lowering the signal
that's coming out of the uart, because an rs232 transceiver not only
changes a signal's voltage level, it also *inverts* the signal.  See
the simplified schematic in the MAX232 datasheet for an example:

So, to raise RTS on an rs232 port, TIOCM_RTS is *set* in port->mctrl
and that results in the signal being driven low.

In contrast to rs232, the signal level for rs485 Transmit Enable is the
identity, not the inversion:  If the transceiver expects a "high" RTS
signal for Transmit Enable, the signal coming out of the uart must also
be high, so TIOCM_RTS must be *cleared* in port->mctrl.

The commit did the exact opposite, but it's easy to see why given the
confusing semantics of rs232 and rs485.  Fix it.

Lukas Wunner 0e7d8e930a serial: core: Keep mctrl register state and cached copy in sync

struct uart_port contains a cached copy of the Modem Control signals.
It is used to skip register writes in uart_update_mctrl() if the new
signal state equals the old signal state.  It also avoids a register
read to obtain the current state of output signals.

When a uart_port is registered, uart_configure_port() changes signal
state but neglects to keep the cached copy in sync.  That may cause
a subsequent register write to be incorrectly skipped.  Fix it before
it trips somebody up.

This behavior has been present ever since the serial core was introduced
in 2002:

So far it was never an issue because the cached copy is initialized to 0
by kzalloc() and when uart_configure_port() is executed, at most DTR has
been set by uart_set_options() or sunsu_console_setup().  Therefore,
a stable designation seems unnecessary.

Lukas Wunner 5b452507d5 serial: pl011: Drop CR register reset on set_termios

pl011_set_termios() briefly resets the CR register to zero, thereby
glitching DTR/RTS signals.  With rs485 this may result in the bus being
occupied for no reason.

Where does this register write originate from?

The PL011 driver was forked from the PL010 driver in 2004:

Until this commit, the PL010 driver's IRQ handler ambauart_int()
modified the CR register without holding the port spinlock.

ambauart_set_termios() also modified that register.  To prevent
concurrent read-modify-writes by the IRQ handler and to prevent
transmission while changing baudrate, ambauart_set_termios() had to
disable interrupts.  On the PL010, that is achieved by writing zero to
the CR register.

However, on the PL011, interrupts are disabled in the IMSC register,
not in the CR register.

Additionally, the commit amended both the PL010 and PL011 driver to
acquire the port spinlock in the IRQ handler, obviating the need to
disable interrupts in ->set_termios().

So the CR register write is obsolete for two reasons.  Drop it.

Fugang Duan c6d9c77a19 tty: serial: imx: disable UCR4_OREN in .stop_rx() instead of .shutdown()

The UCR4_OREN should be disabled before disabling the uart receiver in
.stop_rx() instead of in the .shutdown().

Otherwise, if we have the overrun error during the receiver disable
process, the overrun interrupt will keep trigging until we disable the
OREN interrupt in the .shutdown(), because the ORE status can only be
cleared when read the rx FIFO or reset the controller.  Although the
called time between the receiver disable and OREN disable in .shutdown()
is very short, there is still the risk of endless interrupt during this
short period of time. So here change to disable OREN before the receiver
been disabled in .stop_rx().
