Instead of directly calling printk, it's simpler to use the built-in
pr_* functions. This shortens code and allows easy customization through
the definition of a pr_fmt() macro (not used currently). Ideally, we
could implement much of this with dev_* functions, but the MTD subsystem
does not necessarily register all its master `mtd_info.dev` device, so
we cannot use dev_* consistently. See:

Soon we will change many printk statements into pr_* statements, i.e.,
'printk(KERN_INFO, ...)' becomes 'pr_info(...)'. However, this means that
KERN_DEBUG messages will become pr_debug() statements and therefore will
not be activated by default - they must be enabled using dynamic debug.
So, for important DEBUG messages, we will simply upgrade these to INFO
so that they appear by default.

The eLBC NAND driver currently follows up each program/write operation with a
read-back of the page, in order to [ostensibly] fill in ECC data for the
caller. However, the page address used for this read is always -1, so the read
will never work correctly. Remove this useless (and potentially problematic)
block of code.

Now that nand_do_readoob() may return -EUCLEAN or -EBADMSG on ECC errors,
we need to handle the return value specially in some cases.
When scanning for simple bad block markers, reacting to an ECC error is
not very useful, as we assume that the relevant markers are still
non-0xFF for true bad blocks.

While the standard NAND OOB functions do not do ECC on the spare area,
it is possible for a driver to supply its own OOB ECC functions (e.g., HW
ECC). nand_do_read_oob should act like nand_do_read_ops in checking the
ECC stats and returning -EBADMSG or -EUCLEAN on uncorrectable errors or
correctable bitflips, respectively. These error codes could be used in
flash-based BBT code or in YAFFS, for example.
Doing this, however, messes with the behavior of mtd_do_readoob. Now,
mtd_do_readoob should check whether we had -EUCLEAN or -EBADMSG errors
and discard those as "non-fatal" so that the ioctls can still succeed
with (possibly uncorrected) data.

In nand_do_write_ops() code it is possible for a caller to provide
ops.oobbuf populated and ops.mode == MTD_OOB_AUTO, which currently
means that the chip->oob_poi buffer isn't initialised to all 0xFF.
The nand_fill_oob() method then carries out the task of copying
the provided OOB data to oob_poi, but with MTD_OOB_AUTO it skips
areas marked as unavailable by the layout struct, including the
bad block marker bytes.
An example of this causing issues is when the last OOB data read
was from the start of a bad block where the markers are not 0xFF,
and the caller wishes to write new OOB data at the beginning of
another block. In this scenario the caller would provide OOB data,
but nand_fill_oob() would skip the bad block marker bytes in
oob_poi before copying the OOB data provided by the caller.
This means that when the OOB data is written back to NAND,
the block is inadvertently marked as bad without the caller knowing.
This has been witnessed when using YAFFS2 where tags are stored
in the OOB.
To avoid this oob_poi is always initialised to 0xFF to make sure
no left over data is inadvertently written back to the OOB area.

Lots (nearly all) mtd drivers contain nearly the similar code that
calls parse_mtd_partitions, provides some platform-default values, if
parsing fails, and registers mtd device.
This is an aim to provide single implementation of this scenario:
mtd_device_parse_register() which will handle all this parsing and
defaults.

The NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT flag was added by commit:
453281a973
mtd: nand: introduce NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT
This flag is not used within the kernel and not explained well, so I
took the liberty to edit its comments.
Also, this is a BBT-related flag (and closely tied with NAND_BBT_CREATE)
so I'm moving it to bbm.h next to NAND_BBT_CREATE, thus requiring that
we use the flag in nand_chip.bbt_options, *not* in nand_chip.options.

Recall the recently added prefix requirements:
* "NAND_" for flags in nand.h, used in nand_chip.options
* "NAND_BBT_" for flags in bbm.h, used in nand_chip.bbt_options
or in nand_bbt_descr.options
Thus, I am changing NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT to NAND_BBT_USE_FLASH.
Again, this flag is found in bbm.h and so should NOT be used in the
"nand_chip.options" field.

This patch works with the following three flags from two headers (nand.h
and bbm.h):
(1) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (nand.h)
(2) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (nand.h)
(3) NAND_BBT_NO_OOB (bbm.h)
These flags are all related and interdependent, yet they were in
different headers. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and
can be eliminated.
This patch accomplishes the following:
* eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2))
* move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h
It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in
bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field.
I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to
NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h.

This patch handles the problems we've been having with using conflicting
flags from nand.h and bbm.h in the same nand_chip.options field. We
should try to separate these two spaces a little more clearly, and so I
have added a bbt_options field to nand_chip.
Important notes about nand_chip fields:
* bbt_options field should contain ONLY flags from bbm.h. They should be
able to pass safely to a nand_bbt_descr data structure.
- BBT option flags start with the "NAND_BBT_" prefix.
* options field should contian ONLY flags from nand.h. Ideally, they
should not be involved in any BBT related options.
- NAND chip option flags start with the "NAND_" prefix.
* Every flag should have a nice comment explaining what the flag is. While
this is not yet the case on all existing flags, please be sure to write
one for new flags. Even better, you can help document the code better
yourself!
Please try to follow these conventions to make everyone's lives easier.
Among the flags that are being moved to the new bbt_options field
throughout various drivers, etc. are:
* NAND_BBT_SCANLASTPAGE
* NAND_BBT_SCAN2NDPAGE
and there will be more to come.

Furthermore, we apparently do not need to scan both bytes 1 and 6 in
the OOB region of the devices under consideration; instead, we only need
to scan one or the other.
Thus, the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag is at best unnecessary and at
worst a regression.

Michal Marek spotted the same issue in UBIFS and this patch fixes UBI,
see "UBIFS: not build debug messages with CONFIG_UBIFS_FS_DEBUG disabled"
When UBI debugging is disabled, we have debugging messages defined as:
if (0)
pr_debug()
But pr_debug macro defines data structures with debugging data and makes
the linux binary larger, even though we have "if (0)".

For a number of file systems that don't have a mount point (e.g. sockfs
and pipefs), they are not marked as long term. Therefore in
mntput_no_expire, all locks in vfs_mount lock are taken instead of just
local cpu's lock to aggregate reference counts when we release
reference to file objects. In fact, only local lock need to have been
taken to update ref counts as these file systems are in no danger of
going away until we are ready to unregister them.
The attached patch marks file systems using kern_mount without
mount point as long term. The contentions of vfs_mount lock
is now eliminated. Before un-registering such file system,
kern_unmount should be called to remove the long term flag and
make the mount point ready to be freed.

Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called
in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and
the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some
file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and
ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make
sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each
individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there.

Remove linux/mm.h inclusion from netdevice.h -- it's unused (I've checked manually).
To prevent mm.h inclusion via other channels also extract "enum dma_data_direction"
definition into separate header. This tiny piece is what gluing netdevice.h with mm.h
via "netdevice.h => dmaengine.h => dma-mapping.h => scatterlist.h => mm.h".
Removal of mm.h from scatterlist.h was tried and was found not feasible
on most archs, so the link was cutoff earlier.
Hope people are OK with tiny include file.
Note, that mm_types.h is still dragged in, but it is a separate story.

This patch fixes an oops in the error path of 'ubi_attach_mtd_dev()'. If
anything after 'uif_init()' fails, we get an oops in 'cancel_pending()'. The
reason is that 'uif_close()' drops the last reference count for 'ubi->dev' and
whole 'struct ubi_device' is freed. And then
'ubi_wl_close()'->'cancel_pending()' tries to access the 'ubi' pointer and
problems begin.
Note, in 'ubi_detach_mtd_dev()' function we get a device reference to
work-around this issue. Do the same in the error path of
'ubi_attach_mtd_dev()'.

Kill the UBI 'debug_tsts' module parameter and switch to debugfs. Create
per-test mode files there. E.g., to enable bit-flips emulation you may just do:

Current layout does not allow us to add inline functions to debug.h which use
the 'struct ubi_device' object, because it is undefined there. Move
'#include "debug.h"' in "ubi.h" down so to make 'struct ubi_device" be defined.
Additionally, this makes it possible to remove a bunch of forward declarations
in "debug.h". This is a preparation to the next patch.

We'll need the 'struct ubi_device *ubi' pointer in every debugging function (to

This patch introduces debugfs support to UBI. All the UBI stuff is kept in the
"ubi" debugfs directory, which contains per-UBI device "ubi/ubiX"
sub-directories, containing debugging files. This file also creates
"ubi/ubiX/chk_gen" and "ubi/ubiX/chk_io" knobs for switching general and I/O
extra checks on and off. And it removes the 'debug_chks' UBI module parameters.

To prepare for the removal of add_mtd_device and add_mtd_partitions(),
introduce mtd_device_register(). This will create partitions if they
are supplied or register the whole device if there are no partitions.
Once all drivers are converted to use mtd_device_register(),
add_mtd_device() and add_mtd_partitions() will be made internal only.

There are very few situations where MTD partitioning is not required,
and the benefit in code size reduction by making this configurable does
not warrant the level of ifdeffery needed.
Artem: this patch is not final - we just make sure that mtd partitions
are always compiled in, and at the end of the series we'll kill
MTD_PARTITIONS altogether.

cfi erase command hangs up when erase and read contention occurs.
If read runs at the same address as erase operation, read issues
Erase-Suspend via get_chip() and the erase goes into sleep in wait queue.
But in this case, read operation exits by time-out without waking it up.
I think the other variants (0001, 0020 and lpddr) have the same problem too.
Tested and verified the patch only on CFI-0002 flash, though.

Currently when we register partitions in 'parse_mtd_partitions()' we accept the
list of parsers we should try. And if one of the parsers was not found we print
a message. Well, first of all this whole idea is bad - look at how many
'part_probes' and 'part_probe_types' variables we have - nearly every driver
defines one. Instead, we should just go through all registered parsers all the
time. But this needs to be worked on separately.
This patch makes life of MTD partitions' users a bit simpler and allows them to
safely request parsers which have not been registered -
'parse_mtd_partitions()' will not print a "not available" message in this
case.
The point is that drivers do not have to do things like this any longer:
static const char *part_probe_types[] = { "cmdlinepart", "RedBoot",
"afs",
NULL };
but can simply do like this:
static const char *part_probe_types[] = { "cmdlinepart", "RedBoot", "afs", NULL };

When reading/writing a subpage (When HW ECC is not available/enabled)
for number of bytes not aligned to 4, the mis-aligned bytes are handled
first (by cpu copy method) before enabling the Prefetch engine to/from
'p'(start of buffer 'buf'). Then it reads/writes rest of the bytes with
the help of Prefetch engine, if available, or again using cpu copy method.
Currently, reading/writing of rest of bytes, is not done correctly since
its trying to read/write again to/from begining of buffer 'buf',
overwriting the mis-aligned bytes.
Read & write using prefetch engine got broken in commit '2c01946c'.
We never hit a scenario of not getting 'gpmc_prefetch_enable' call
success. So, problem did not get caught up.
