The iptables tproxy code has to be able to do UDP socket hash lookups,
so we have to provide an exported lookup function for this purpose.

Current TCP code relies on the local port of the listening socket
being the same as the destination address of the incoming
connection. Port redirection used by many transparent proxying
techniques obviously breaks this, so we have to store the original
destination port address.
This patch extends struct inet_request_sock and stores the incoming
destination port value there. It also modifies the handshake code to
use that value as the source port when sending reply packets.

Netfilter's ip_route_me_harder() tries to re-route packets either
generated or re-routed by Netfilter. This patch changes
ip_route_me_harder() to handle packets from non-locally-bound sockets
with IP_TRANSPARENT set as local and to set the appropriate flowi
flags when re-doing the routing lookup.

The TCP stack sends out SYN+ACK/ACK/RST reply packets in response to
incoming packets. The non-local source address check on output bites
us again, as replies for transparently redirected traffic won't have a
chance to leave the node.
This patch selectively sets the FLOWI_FLAG_ANYSRC flag when doing the
route lookup for those replies. Transparent replies are enabled if the
listening socket has the transparent socket flag set.

Setting IP_TRANSPARENT is not really useful without allowing non-local
binds for the socket. To make user-space code simpler we allow these
binds even if IP_TRANSPARENT is set but IP_FREEBIND is not.

This patch introduces the IP_TRANSPARENT socket option: enabling that
will make the IPv4 routing omit the non-local source address check on

ip_route_output() contains a check to make sure that no flows with
non-local source IP addresses are routed. This obviously makes using
such addresses impossible.
This patch introduces a flowi flag which makes omitting this check
possible. The new flag provides a way of handling transparent and
non-transparent connections differently.

The nr_conns variable in the sync message header is only eight bits wide
and will overflow on interfaces with a large MTU. As a result the backup
won't parse all connections contained in the sync buffer. On regular
ethernet with an MTU of 1500 this isn't a problem, because we can't
overflow the value, but consider jumbo frames being used on a cross-over
connection between both directors.
We now restrict the size of the sync buffer, so that we never put more
than 255 connections into a single sync buffer.

I'm trying to use the TCP_MAXSEG option to setsockopt() to set the MSS
for both sides of a bidirectional connection.
man tcp says: "If this option is set before connection establishment, it
also changes the MSS value announced to the other end in the initial
packet."
However, the kernel only uses the MTU/route cache to set the advertised
MSS. That means if I set the MSS to, say, 500 before calling connect(),
I will send at most 500-byte packets, but I will still receive 1500-byte
packets in reply.
This is a bug, either in the kernel or the documentation.
This patch (applies to latest net-2.6) reduces the advertised value to
that requested by the user as long as setsockopt() is called before
connect() or accept(). This seems like the behavior that one would
expect as well as that which is documented.
I've tried to make sure that things that depend on the advertised MSS
are set correctly.

If lost skb is sacked, we might have nothing to retransmit
as high as the retransmit_high is pointing to, so place
it lower to avoid unnecessary walking.
This is mainly for the case where high L'ed skbs gets sacked.

Most importantly avoid doing it with cumulative ACK. However,
since we have lost_cnt_hint in the picture as well needing
adjustments, it's not as trivial as dealing with
retransmit_skb_hint (and cannot be done in the all place we
could trivially leave retransmit_skb_hint untouched).
With the previous patch, this should mostly remove O(n^2)
behavior while cumulative ACKs start flowing once rexmit
after a lossy round-trip made it through.

The validity of the retransmit_high must then be ensured
if no L'ed skb exits!
This makes a minor change to behavior, we now have to
iterate the head to find out that the loop terminates.

Because lost counter no longer requires tuning, this is
trivial to remove (the tuning wouldn't have been too
hard either) because no "new" retransmittable skb appeared
below retransmit_skb_hint when SACKing for sure.

I suspect it might have been related to the changed amount
of lost skbs, which was counted by retransmit_cnt_hint that
got changed.
The place for this clearing was very illogical anyway,
it should have been after the LOST-bit clearing loop to
make any sense.

Main benefit in this is that we can then freely point
the retransmit_skb_hint to anywhere we want to because
there's no longer need to know what would be the count
changes involve, and since this is really used only as a
terminator, unnecessary work is one time walk at most,
and if some retransmissions are necessary after that
point later on, the walk is not full waste of time
anyway.
Since retransmit_high must be kept valid, all lost
markers must ensure that.
Now I also have learned how those "holes" in the
rexmittable skbs can appear, mtu probe does them. So
I removed the misleading comment as well.

The previous patch in response to the recursive locking on IPsec
reception is broken as it tries to drop the BH socket lock while in
user context.
This patch fixes it by shrinking the section protected by the
socket lock to sock_queue_rcv_skb only. The only reason we added
the lock is for the accounting which happens in that function.

Now that LVS can load balance locally generated traffic, packets may come
from the loopback device and thus may have a partial checksum.
The existing code allows for the case where there is no checksum at all for
TCP, however Herbert Xu has confirmed that this is not legal.

This patch provides a function to purge all timewait sockets related
to a network namespace. The timewait sockets life cycle is not tied with
the network namespace, that means the timewait sockets stay alive while
the network namespace dies. The timewait sockets are for avoiding to
receive a duplicate packet from the network, if the network namespace is
freed, the network stack is removed, so no chance to receive any packets
from the outside world. Furthermore, having a pending destruction timer
on these sockets with a network namespace freed is not safe and will lead
to an oops if the timer callback which try to access data belonging to
the namespace like for example in:
inet_twdr_do_twkill_work
-> NET_INC_STATS_BH(twsk_net(tw), LINUX_MIB_TIMEWAITED);
Purging the timewait sockets at the network namespace destruction will:
1) speed up memory freeing for the namespace
2) fix kernel panic on asynchronous timewait destruction

Allow adding IPv6 services through the genetlink interface and add checks
to see if the chosen scheduler is supported with IPv6 and whether the
supplied prefix length is sane. Make sure the service count exported via
the sockopt interface only counts IPv4 services.

Add 'af' arguments to conn_schedule(), conn_in_get(), conn_out_get() and
csum_check() function pointers in struct ip_vs_protocol. Extend the
respective functions for TCP, UDP, AH and ESP and adjust the callers.
The changes in the callers need to be somewhat extensive, since they now
need to pass a filled out struct ip_vs_iphdr * to the modified functions
instead of a struct iphdr *.

Add 'supports_ipv6' flag to struct ip_vs_scheduler to indicate whether a
scheduler supports IPv6. Set the flag to 1 in schedulers that work with
IPv6, 0 otherwise. This flag is checked in a later patch while trying to
add a service with a specific scheduler. Adjust debug in v6-supporting
schedulers to work with both address families.

Re-enable IP when the MTU gets back to a valid size.
This patch just checks if the in_dev is NULL on a NETDEV_CHANGEMTU event
and if MTU is valid (bigger than 68), then re-enable in_dev.
Also a function that checks valid MTU size was created.

When scanning route cache hash table, we can avoid taking locks for
empty buckets. Both /proc/net/rt_cache and NETLINK RTM_GETROUTE
interface are taken into account.

On most systems most of the TCP established/time-wait hash buckets are empty.
When walking the hash table for /proc/net/tcp their read locks would
always be aquired just to find out they're empty. This patch changes the code
to check first if the buckets have any entries before taking the lock, which
is much cheaper than taking a lock. Since the hash tables are large
this makes a measurable difference on processing /proc/net/tcp,
especially on architectures with slow read_lock (e.g. PPC)
On a 2GB Core2 system time cat /proc/net/tcp > /dev/null (with a mostly
empty hash table) goes from 0.046s to 0.005s.
On systems with slower atomics (like P4 or POWER4) or larger hash tables
(more RAM) the difference is much higher.
This can be noticeable because there are some daemons around who regularly
scan /proc/net/tcp.

The size of the TCP header is miscalculated when the window scale ends
up being 0. Additionally, this can be induced by sending a SYN to a
passive open port with a window scale option with value 0.

Rename all ah_* functions to ah_esp_* (and adjust comments). Move ESP
protocol definition into ip_vs_proto_ah.c and remove all usage of
ip_vs_proto_esp.c.
Make the compilation of ip_vs_proto_ah.c dependent on a new config
variable, IP_VS_PROTO_AH_ESP, which is selected either by
IP_VS_PROTO_ESP or IP_VS_PROTO_AH. Only compile the selected protocols'
structures within this file.

We can't access the cache entry outside of our critical read-locked region,
because someone may free that entry. Also getting an entry under read lock,
then locking for write and trying to delete that entry looks fishy, but should
be no problem here, because we're only comparing a pointer. Also there is no
need for our own rwlock, there is already one in the service structure for use
in the schedulers.

We can't access the cache entry outside of our critical read-locked region,
because someone may free that entry. And we also need to check in the critical
region wether the destination is still available, i.e. it's not in the trash.
If we drop our reference counter, the destination can be purged from the trash
at any time. Our caller only guarantees that no destination is moved to the
trash, while we are scheduling. Also there is no need for our own rwlock,
there is already one in the service structure for use in the schedulers.

Use incoming network tuple as seed for NAT port randomization.
This avoids concerns of leaking net_random() bits, and also gives better

Let me first state that disabling the route cache hash rebuild
should not be done without extensive analysis on the risk profile
and careful deliberation.
However, there are times when this can be done safely or for
testing. For example, when you have mechanisms for ensuring
that offending parties do not exist in your network.
This patch lets the user disable the rebuild if the interval is
set to zero. This also incidentally fixes a divide-by-zero error
with name-spaces.
In addition, this patch makes the effect of an interval change
immediate rather than it taking effect at the next rebuild as
is currently the case.

Commit 8ab19ea36c ("ipvs: Fix possible deadlock
in estimator code") fixed a deadlock condition, but that condition can only
happen during unload of IPVS, because during normal operation there is at least
our global stats structure in the estimator list. The mod_timer() and
del_timer_sync() calls are actually initialization and cleanup code in
disguise. Let's make it explicit and move them to their own init and cleanup
function.

There are schedulers that only schedule based on data available in the service
or destination structures and they don't need any persistent storage or
initialization routine. These schedulers currently provide dummy functions for
the init_service, update_service and/or done_service functions. For the
init_service and done_service cases we already have code that only calls these
functions, if the scheduler provides them. Do the same for the update_service
case and remove the dummy functions from all schedulers.

This patch makes the multicast socket to be per namespace.
When a network namespace is created, other than the init_net and a
multicast packet is received, the kernel goes to a hang or a kernel panic.
How to reproduce ?
* create a child network namespace
* create a pair virtual device veth
* ip link add type veth
* move one side to the pair network device to the child namespace
* ip link set netns <childpid> dev veth1
* ping -I veth0 224.0.0.1
The bug appears because the function ip_mc_init_dev does not initialize
the different multicast fields as it exits because it is not the init_net.

In order to align the coding styles of ip_vs_zero_stats() and
its child-function ip_vs_zero_estimator(), clear ip_vs_stats
members explicitlty rather than doing a limited memset().
This was chosen over modifying ip_vs_zero_estimator() to use
memset() as it is more robust against changes in members
in the relevant structures. memset() would be prefered if
all members of the structure were to be cleared.

There's no reason for dynamically allocating an estimator object for every
stats object. Directly embed an estimator object into every stats object and
switch to using the kernel-provided list implementation. This makes the code
much simpler and faster, as we do not need to traverse the list of all
estimators to find the one belonging to a stats object. There's no need to use
an rwlock, as we only have one reader. Also reorder the members of the
estimator structure slightly to avoid padding overhead. This can't be done
with the stats object as the members are currently copied to our user space
object via memcpy() and changing it would break ABI.

There is a slight chance for a deadlock in the estimator code. We can't call
del_timer_sync() while holding our lock, as the timer might be active and
spinning for the lock on another cpu. Work around this issue by using
try_to_del_timer_sync() and releasing the lock. We could actually delete the
timer outside of our lock, as the add and kill functions are only every called
from userspace via [gs]etsockopt() and are serialized by a mutex, but better
make this explicit.

The socket lock is there to protect the normal UDP receive path.
Encapsulation UDP sockets don't need that protection. In fact
the locking is deadly for them as they may contain another UDP
packet within, possibly with the same addresses.
Also the nested bit was copied from TCP. TCP needs it because
of accept(2) spawning sockets. This simply doesn't apply to UDP
so I've removed it.

Here's a revised version, based on Herbert's comments, of a fix for
the ipv6-inner, ipv4-outer interfamily ipsec beet mode. It fixes the
network header adjustment in interfamily, and doesn't reserve space
for the pseudo header anymore when we have ipv6 as the inner family.

ip_default_ttl ctl_table, but it is never set to a meaningful
value. When e84f84f276 ("netns: place
rt_genid into struct net") is applied, we'll oops in

I noticed, looking at tcpdumps, that timewait ACKs were getting sent
with an incorrect MD5 signature when signatures were enabled.
I broke this in 49a72dfb88 ("tcp: Fix
MD5 signatures for non-linear skbs"). I didn't take into account that
the skb passed to tcp_*_send_ack was the inbound packet, thus the
source and dest addresses need to be swapped when calculating the MD5
pseudoheader.

The thing is that recent_mt_destroy first flushes the entries
from table with the recent_table_flush and only *after* this
removes the proc file, corresponding to that table.
Thus, if we manage to write to this file the '+XXX' command we
will leak some entries. If we manage to write there a 'clean'
command we'll race in two recent_table_flush flows, since the
recent_mt_destroy calls this outside the recent_lock.
The proper solution as I see it is to remove the proc file first
and then go on with flushing the table. This flushing becomes
safe w/o the lock, since the table is already inaccessible from
the outside.

Piss-poor sysctl registration API strikes again, film at 11...
What we really need is _pathname_ required to be present in
already registered table, so that kernel could warn about bad
order. That's the next target for sysctl stuff (and generally
saner and more explicit order of initialization of ipv[46]
internals wouldn't hurt either).
For the time being, here are full fixups required by ..._rotable()
stuff; we make per-net sysctl sets descendents of "ro" one and
make sure that sufficient skeleton is there before we start registering
per-net sysctls.

Massage ipv4 initialization - make sure that net.ipv4 appears as

having to edit my mails down to get them accepted by the smtp server.
Git bisect led to commit e84f84f276 -
netns: place rt_genid into struct net. The conversion from a != test
to rt_is_expired() put one negative too many: and now my mail works.

ecn_ok is not initialized when a connection is established by cookies.
The cookie syn-ack never sets ECN, so ecn_ok must be set to 0.

Removes legacy reinvent-the-wheel type thing. The generic
machinery integrates much better to automated debugging aids
such as kerneloops.org (and others), and is unambiguous due to
better naming. Non-intuively BUG_TRAP() is actually equal to
WARN_ON() rather than BUG_ON() though some might actually be
promoted to BUG_ON() but I left that to future.
I could make at least one BUILD_BUG_ON conversion.

All uses of list_for_each_rcu() can be profitably replaced by the
easier-to-use list_for_each_entry_rcu(). This patch makes this change for
networking, in preparation for removing the list_for_each_rcu() API
entirely.

This is based upon an excellent bug report from Eric Dumazet.
tcp_ack() should clear ->icsk_probes_out even if there are packets
outstanding. Otherwise if we get a sequence of ACKs while we do have
packets outstanding over and over again, we'll never clear the
probes_out value and eventually think the connection is too sick and
we'll reset it.
This appears to be some "optimization" added to tcp_ack() in the 2.4.x
timeframe. In 2.2.x, probes_out is pretty much always cleared by
tcp_ack().

This patch clamps the cscov setsockopt values to a maximum of 0xFFFF.
Setsockopt values greater than 0xffff can cause an unwanted
wrap-around. Further, IPv6 jumbograms are not supported (RFC 3838,
3.5), so that values greater than 0xffff are not even useful.
Further changes: fixed a typo in the documentation.

According to RFC2327, the connection information is optional
in the session description since it can be specified in the
media description instead.
My provider does exactly that and does not provide any connection
information in the session description. As a result the new
kernel drops all invite responses.
This patch makes it optional as documented.

Initially netfilter has had 64bit counters for conntrack-based accounting, but
it was changed in 2.6.14 to save memory. Unfortunately in-kernel 64bit counters are
still required, for example for "connbytes" extension. However, 64bit counters
waste a lot of memory and it was not possible to enable/disable it runtime.
This patch:
- reimplements accounting with respect to the extension infrastructure,
- makes one global version of seq_print_acct() instead of two seq_print_counters(),
- makes it possible to enable it at boot time (for CONFIG_SYSCTL/CONFIG_SYSFS=n),
- makes it possible to enable/disable it at runtime by sysctl or sysfs,
- extends counters from 32bit to 64bit,
- renames ip_conntrack_counter -> nf_conn_counter,
- enables accounting code unconditionally (no longer depends on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT),
- set initial accounting enable state based on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT
- removes buggy IPCT_COUNTER_FILLING event handling.
If accounting is enabled newly created connections get additional acct extend.
Old connections are not changed as it is not possible to add a ct_extend area
to confirmed conntrack. Accounting is performed for all connections with
acct extend regardless of a current state of "net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_acct".

This bug happens when reading /proc/net/tcp[6] when there is a req_sock
at the SYN_RECV state.
When a SYN is received the minisock is created and the sk field is set to
NULL. In the listening_get_next function, we try to look at the field
req->sk->sk_net.
When looking at how to fix this bug, I noticed that is useless to do
the check for the minisock belonging to the namespace. A minisock belongs
to a listen point and this one is per namespace, so when browsing the
minisock they are always per namespace.

Remove redundant checks when setting eff_sacks and make the number of SACKs a
compile time constant. Now that the options code knows how many SACK blocks can
fit in the header, we don't need to have the SACK code guessing at it.

This should fix the following bugs:
* Connections with MD5 signatures produce invalid packets whenever SACK
options are included
* MD5 signatures are counted twice in the MSS calculations
Behaviour changes:
* A SYN with MD5 + SACK + TS elicits a SYNACK with MD5 + SACK
This is because we can't fit any SACK blocks in a packet with MD5 + TS
options. There was discussion about disabling SACK rather than TS in
order to fit in better with old, buggy kernels, but that was deemed to
be unnecessary.
* SYNs with MD5 don't include a TS option
See above.
Additionally, it removes a bunch of duplicated logic for calculating options,
which should help avoid these sort of issues in the future.

Currently, the MD5 code assumes that the SKBs are linear and, in the case
that they aren't, happily goes off and hashes off the end of the SKB and
into random memory.
Reported by Stephen Hemminger in [1]. Advice thanks to Stephen and Evgeniy
Polyakov. Also includes a couple of missed route_caps from Stephen's patch
in [2].

Some of the metrics (RTT, RTTVAR and RTAX_RTO_MIN) are stored in
kernel units (jiffies) and this leaks out through the netlink API to
user space where the units for jiffies are unknown.
This patches changes the kernel to convert to/from milliseconds. This
changes the ABI, but milliseconds seemed like the most natural unit
for these parameters. Values available via syscall in
/proc/net/rt_cache and netlink will be in milliseconds.

This one is tricky.
The thing is that this macro is only used when killing tw buckets,
but since this killer is promiscuous wrt to which net each particular
tw belongs to, I have to use it only when NET_NS is off. When the net
namespaces are on, I use the INET_INC_STATS_BH for each bucket.

The tcp_enter_memory_pressure calls NET_INC_STATS, but doesn't
have where to get the net from.
I decided to add a sk argument, not the net itself, only to factor
all the required sock_net(sk) calls inside the enter_memory_pressure
callback itself.

This patch enhances the synchronization of the closing connections
between the master and the backup director. It prevents the closed
connections to expire with the 15 min timeout of the ESTABLISHED
state on the backup and makes them expire as they would do on the
master with much shorter timeouts.

backup thread onto the mcast socket wait queue and it gets woken up as soon as
we have data to process.

This also moves the setup code out of the daemons, so that we're able to
return proper error codes to user space. The current code will return success
to user space when the daemon is started with an invald mcast interface. With
these changes we get an appropriate "No such device" error.
We longer need our own completion to be sure the daemons are actually running,
because they no longer contain code that can fail and kthread_run() takes care
of the rest.

Commit: "netdevice: Fix promiscuity and allmulti overflow" in net-next makes
dev_set_promiscuity/allmulti return error number if overflow happened.
Here, we check the positive increment for allmulti to get error return.

In commit a07f5f508a "[IPV4] fib_trie: style
cleanup", the changes to check_leaf() and fn_trie_lookup() were wrong - where
fn_trie_lookup() would previously return a negative error value from
check_leaf(), it now returns 0.
Now fn_trie_lookup() doesn't appear to care about plen, so we can revert
check_leaf() to returning the error value.

explicitly, since we haven't touched this part yet. The second
place is in __udp4_lib_rcv - we already have a struct net there,
but I have to move its initialization above to make it ready

flush delay is used as an external storage for net.ipv4.route.flush sysctl
entry. It is write-only.
The ctl_table->data for this entry is used once. Fix this case to point
to the stack to remove global variable. Do this to avoid additional
variable on struct net in the next patch.
Possible race (as it was before) accessing this local variable is removed
using flush_mutex.

There are some places in TCP that select one MIB index to
bump snmp statistics like this:

or in a more tricky but still similar way.
On the other hand, this NET_INC_STATS_BH is a camouflaged
increment of percpu variable, which is not that small.
Factoring those cases out de-bloats 235 bytes on non-preemptible
i386 config and drives parts of the code into 80 columns.

Convert the sysctl values for icmp ratelimit to use milliseconds instead
of jiffies which is based on kernel configured HZ.
Internal kernel jiffies are not a proper unit for any userspace API.

When an SKB cannot be chained to a session, the current code attempts
to "restore" its ip_summed field from lro_mgr->ip_summed. However,
lro_mgr->ip_summed does not hold the original value; in fact, we'd
better not touch skb->ip_summed since it is not modified by the code
in the path leading to a failure to chain it. Also use a cleaer
comment to the describe the ip_summed field of struct net_lro_mgr.

The problem is that while we work w/o the inet_frags.lock even
read-locked the secret rebuild timer may occur (on another CPU, since
BHs are still disabled in the inet_frag_find) and change the rnd seed
for ipv4/6 fragments.
It was caused by my patch fd9e63544c
([INET]: Omit double hash calculations in xxx_frag_intern) late
in the 2.6.24 kernel, so this should probably be queued to -stable.

I found another case where we are sending information to userspace
in the wrong HZ scale. This should have been fixed back in 2.5 :-(
This means an ABI change but as it stands there is no way for an application
like ss to get the right value.

The tcp_mem array which contains limits on the total amount of memory
used by TCP sockets is calculated based on nr_all_pages. On a 32 bits
x86 system, we should base this on the number of lowmem pages.

Large Receive Offload (LRO) is only appropriate for packets that are
destined for the host, and should be disabled if received packets may be
forwarded. It can also confuse the GSO on output.
Add dev_disable_lro() function which uses the appropriate ethtool ops to
disable LRO if enabled.
Add calls to dev_disable_lro() in br_add_if() and functions that enable
IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding.

This patch adds this capability to UDP sockets too (/proc/net/udp &
/proc/net/udp6).
This means that 'RcvbufErrors' errors found in /proc/net/snmp can be also
be examined for each udp socket.

When generating the ip header for the transformed packet we just copy
the frag_off field of the ip header from the original packet to the ip
header of the new generated packet. If we receive a packet as a chain
of fragments, all but the last of the new generated packets have the
IP_MF flag set. We have to mask the frag_off field to only keep the
IP_DF flag from the original packet. This got lost with git commit
36cf9acf93 ("[IPSEC]: Separate
inner/outer mode processing on output")

Fix three ct_extend/NAT extension related races:
- When cleaning up the extension area and removing it from the bysource hash,
the nat->ct pointer must not be set to NULL since it may still be used in
a RCU read side
- When replacing a NAT extension area in the bysource hash, the nat->ct
pointer must be assigned before performing the replacement
- When reallocating extension storage in ct_extend, the old memory must
not be freed immediately since it may still be used by a RCU read side

Currently the chain to store a UDP socket is calculated with
simple (x & (UDP_HTABLE_SIZE - 1)). But taking net into account
would make this calculation a bit more complex, so moving it into
a function would help.

reports that is goes away if the rest of the deferred
accept changes are reverted too.

This reverts two changesets, ec3c0982a2
("[TCP]: TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT updates - process as established") and
the follow-on bug fix 9ae27e0adb
("tcp: Fix slab corruption with ipv6 and tcp6fuzz").
This change causes several problems, first reported by Ingo Molnar
as a distcc-over-loopback regression where connections were getting
stuck.
Ilpo Järvinen first spotted the locking problems. The new function
added by this code, tcp_defer_accept_check(), only has the
child socket locked, yet it is modifying state of the parent
listening socket.
Fixing that is non-trivial at best, because we can't simply just grab
the parent listening socket lock at this point, because it would
create an ABBA deadlock. The normal ordering is parent listening
socket --> child socket, but this code path would require the
reverse lock ordering.
Next is a problem noticed by Vitaliy Gusev, he noted:

Here socket sk is not attached to listening socket's request queue. tcp_done()
will not call inet_csk_destroy_sock() (and tcp_v4_destroy_sock() which should
release this sk) as socket is not DEAD. Therefore socket sk will be lost for
freeing.

Most legacy software do not like tables > 255 as rtm_table is u8
so tb_id is sent &0xff and it is possible to mismatch for example
table 510 with table 254 (main).
This patch introduces RT_TABLE_COMPAT=252 so the code uses it if
tb_id > 255. It makes such old applications happy, new
ones are still able to use RTA_TABLE to get a proper table id.

- No need to perform data_len = 0 in the switch command, since data_len
is initialized to 0 in the beginning of the ipq_build_packet_message()
method.
- {ip,ip6}_queue: We can reach nlmsg_failure only from one place; skb is
sure to be NULL when getting there; since skb is NULL, there is no need
to check this fact and call kfree_skb().

Currently the last packet of a connection isn't accounted when its causing
abnormal termination.
Introduces nf_ct_kill_acct() which increments the accounting counters on
conntrack kill. The new function was necessary, because there are calls
to nf_ct_kill() which don't need accounting:
nf_conntrack_proto_tcp.c line ~847:
Kills ct and returns NF_REPEAT. We don't want to count twice.
nf_conntrack_proto_tcp.c line ~880:
Kills ct and returns NF_DROP. I think we don't want to count dropped
packets.
nf_conntrack_netlink.c line ~824:
As far as I can see ctnetlink_del_conntrack() is used to destroy a
conntrack on behalf of the user. There is an sk_buff, but I don't think
this is an actual packet. Incrementing counters here is therefore not
desired.

The following patch implements a new "security" table for iptables, so
that MAC (SELinux etc.) networking rules can be managed separately to
standard DAC rules.
This is to help with distro integration of the new secmark-based
network controls, per various previous discussions.
The need for a separate table arises from the fact that existing tools
and usage of iptables will likely clash with centralized MAC policy
management.
The SECMARK and CONNSECMARK targets will still be valid in the mangle
table to prevent breakage of existing users.

- Don't trust a length which is greater than the working buffer.
An invalid length could cause overflow when calculating buffer size
for decoding oid.
- An oid length of zero is invalid and allows for an off-by-one error when
decoding oid because the first subid actually encodes first 2 subids.
- A primitive encoding may not have an indefinite length.

skb_splice_bits temporary drops the socket lock while iterating over
the socket queue in order to break a reverse locking condition which
happens with sendfile. This, however, opens a window of opportunity
for tcp_collapse() to aggregate skbs and thus potentially free the
current skb used in skb_splice_bits and tcp_read_sock.
This patch fixes the problem by (re-)getting the same "logical skb"
after the lock has been temporary dropped.

Corked packet is allocated via sock_wmalloc which holds the owner socket,
so one should uncork it and flush all pending data on close. Do this in the
same way as in UDP.

This bug is able to corrupt fackets_out in very rare cases.
In order for this to cause corruption:
1) DSACK in the middle of previous SACK block must be generated.
2) In order to take that particular branch, part or all of the
DSACKed segment must already be SACKed so that we have that
in cache in the first place.
3) The new info must be top enough so that fackets_out will be
updated on this iteration.
...then fack_count is updated while skb wasn't, then we walk again
that particular segment thus updating fack_count twice for
a single skb and finally that value is assigned to fackets_out
by tcp_sacktag_one.
It is safe to call tcp_sacktag_one just once for a segment (at
DSACK), no need to call again for plain SACK.
Potential problem of the miscount are limited to premature entry
to recovery and to inflated reordering metric (which could even
cancel each other out in the most the luckiest scenarios :-)).
Both are quite insignificant in worst case too and there exists
also code to reset them (fackets_out once sacked_out becomes zero
and reordering metric on RTO).
This has been reported by a number of people, because it occurred
quite rarely, it has been very evasive. Andy Furniss was able to
get it to occur couple of times so that a bit more info was
collected about the problem using a debug patch, though it still
required lot of checking around. Thanks also to others who have
tried to help here.
This is listed as Bugzilla #10346. The bug was introduced by
me in commit 68f8353b48 ([TCP]: Rewrite SACK block processing &
sack_recv_cache use), I probably thought back then that there's
need to scan that entry twice or didn't dare to make it go
through it just once there. Going through twice would have
required restoring fack_count after the walk but as noted above,
I chose to drop the additional walk step altogether here.

It is possible that this skip path causes TCP to end up into an
invalid state where ca_state was left to CA_Open while some
segments already came into sacked_out. If next valid ACK doesn't
contain new SACK information TCP fails to enter into
tcp_fastretrans_alert(). Thus at least high_seq is set
incorrectly to a too high seqno because some new data segments
could be sent in between (and also, limited transmit is not
being correctly invoked there). Reordering in both directions
can easily cause this situation to occur.
I guess we would want to use tcp_moderate_cwnd(tp) there as well
as it may be possible to use this to trigger oversized burst to
network by sending an old ACK with huge amount of SACK info, but
I'm a bit unsure about its effects (mainly to FlightSize), so to
be on the safe side I just currently fixed it minimally to keep
TCP's state consistent (obviously, such nasty ACKs have been
possible this far). Though it seems that FlightSize is already
underestimated by some amount, so probably on the long term we
might want to trigger recovery there too, if appropriate, to make
FlightSize calculation to resemble reality at the time when the
losses where discovered (but such change scares me too much now
and requires some more thinking anyway how to do that as it
likely involves some code shuffling).
This bug was found by Brian Vowell while running my TCP debug
patch to find cause of another TCP issue (fackets_out
miscount).

The field was supposed to allow the creation of an anycast route by
assigning an anycast address to an address prefix. It was never
implemented so this field is unused and serves no purpose. Remove it.

Unless there will be any objection here, I suggest consider the
following patch which simply removes the code for the
-DI_WISH_WORLD_WERE_PERFECT in the three methods which use it.
The compilation errors we get when using -DI_WISH_WORLD_WERE_PERFECT
show that this code was not built and not used for really a long time.

Here the local hexbuf is a duplicate of global const char hex_asc from
lib/hexdump.c, except the hex letters' cases:

We are seeing an issue with TCP in handling an ICMP frag needed
message that is received after net.ipv4.tcp_retries1 retransmits.
The default value of retries1 is 3. So if the path mtu changes
and ICMP frag needed is lost for the first 3 retransmits or if
it gets delayed until 3 retransmits are done, TCP doesn't update
MSS correctly and continues to retransmit the orginal message
until it timesout after tcp_retries2 retransmits.
I am seeing this issue even with the latest 2.6.25.4 kernel.
In tcp_retransmit_timer(), when retransmits counter exceeds
tcp_retries1 value, the dst cache entry of the socket is reset.
At this time, if we receive an ICMP frag needed message, the
dst entry gets updated with the new MTU, but the TCP sockets
dst_cache entry remains NULL.
So the next time when we try to retransmit after the ICMP frag
needed is received, tcp_retransmit_skb() gets called. Here the
cur_mss value is calculated at the start of the routine with
a NULL sk_dst_cache. Instead we should call tcp_current_mss after
the rebuild_header that caches the dst entry with the updated mtu.
Also the rebuild_header should be called before tcp_fragment
so that skb is fragmented if the mss goes down.

These devices use the private area of appropriate size for
statistics. Turning them to use on-device ones make them
"privless" and thus - really small wrt kmalloc cache, they
are allocated from.
Besides, code looks nicer, because of absence of multi-braced
type casts and dereferences.

tunnels' stats, but the ipip driver is already switched to
use on-device ones.

Because the IPsec output function xfrm_output_resume does its
own dst_output call it should always call __ip_local_output
instead of ip_local_output as the latter may invoke dst_output
directly. Otherwise the return values from nf_hook and dst_output
may clash as they both use the value 1 but for different purposes.
When that clash occurs this can cause a packet to be used after
it has been freed which usually leads to a crash. Because the
offending value is only returned from dst_output with qdiscs
such as HTB, this bug is normally not visible.

The fragments sysctls also contains some, that are to be
visible, but read-only in net namespaces.
The naming in net/core/sysctl_net_core.c is - tables, that are
to be registered in namespaces have a "ns" word in their names.
So rename ones in ipv4/ip_fragment.c and ipv6/reassembly.c to
fit this.

The cipso_v4_cache is allocated to contain CIPSO_V4_CACHE_BUCKETS
buckets. The CIPSO_V4_CACHE_BUCKETS = 1 << CIPSO_V4_CACHE_BUCKETBITS,
where CIPSO_V4_CACHE_BUCKETBITS = 7.
The bucket-selection function for this hash is calculated like this:

If receiver consumes segments successfully only in-order, FRTO
fallback to conventional recovery produces RTO loop because
FRTO's forward transmissions will always get dropped and need to
be resent, yet by default they're not marked as lost (which are
the only segments we will retransmit in CA_Loss).
Price to pay about this is occassionally unnecessarily
retransmitting the forward transmission(s). SACK blocks help
a bit to avoid this, so it's mainly a concern for NewReno case
though SACK is not fully immune either.
This change has a side-effect of fixing SACKFRTO problem where
it didn't have snd_nxt of the RTO time available anymore when
fallback become necessary (this problem would have only occured
when RTO would occur for two or more segments and ECE arrives
in step 3; no need to figure out how to fix that unless the
TODO item of selective behavior is considered in future).

It seems that commit 009a2e3e4e ("[TCP] FRTO: Improve
interoperability with other undo_marker users") run into
another land-mine which caused fallback to conventional
recovery to break:
1. Cumulative ACK arrives after FRTO retransmission
2. tcp_try_to_open sees zero retrans_out, clears retrans_stamp
which should be kept like in CA_Loss state it would be
3. undo_marker change allowed tcp_packet_delayed to return
true because of the cleared retrans_stamp once FRTO is
terminated causing LossUndo to occur, which means all loss
markings FRTO made are reverted.
This means that the conventional recovery basically recovered
one loss per RTT, which is not that efficient. It was quite
unobvious that the undo_marker change broken something like
this, I had a quite long session to track it down because of
the non-intuitiviness of the bug (luckily I had a trivial
reproducer at hand and I was also able to learn to use kprobes
in the process as well :-)).
This together with the NewReno+FRTO fix and FRTO in-order
workaround this fixes Damon's problems, this and the first
mentioned are enough to fix Bugzilla #10063.

Note: there's actually another bug in FRTO's SACK variant, which
is the causing failure in NewReno case because of the error
that's fixed here. I'll fix the SACK case separately (it's
a separate bug really, though related, but in order to fix that
I need to audit tp->snd_nxt usage a bit).
There were two places where SACK variant of FRTO is getting
incorrectly used even if SACK wasn't negotiated by the TCP flow.
This leads to incorrect setting of frto_highmark with NewReno
if a previous recovery was interrupted by another RTO.
An eventual fallback to conventional recovery then incorrectly
considers one or couple of segments as forward transmissions
though they weren't, which then are not LOST marked during
fallback making them "non-retransmittable" until the next RTO.
In a bad case, those segments are really lost and are the only
one left in the window. Thus TCP needs another RTO to continue.
The next FRTO, however, could again repeat the same events
making the progress of the TCP flow extremely slow.
In order for these events to occur at all, FRTO must occur
again in FRTOs step 3 while the key segments must be lost as
well, which is not too likely in practice. It seems to most
frequently with some small devices such as network printers
that *seem* to accept TCP segments only in-order. In cases
were key segments weren't lost, things get automatically
resolved because those wrongly marked segments don't need to be
retransmitted in order to continue.
I found a reproducer after digging up relevant reports (few
reports in total, none at netdev or lkml I know of), some
cases seemed to indicate middlebox issues which seems now
to be a false assumption some people had made. Bugzilla
#10063 _might_ be related. Damon L. Chesser <damon@damtek.com>
had a reproducable case and was kind enough to tcpdump it
for me. With the tcpdump log it was quite trivial to figure
out.

Rename div64_64 to div64_u64 to make it consistent with the other divide
functions, so it clearly includes the type of the divide. Move its definition
to math64.h as currently no architecture overrides the generic implementation.
They can still override it of course, but the duplicated declarations are
avoided.

There is an overflow bug in net/ipv4/tcp_vegas.c for large BDPs
(e.g. 400Mbit/s, 400ms). The multiplication (old_wnd *
vegas->baseRTT) << V_PARAM_SHIFT overflows a u32.

Problem: ip_append_data() could wrongly generate a chained skb for
devices which support UFO. When sk_write_queue is not empty
(e.g. MSG_MORE), __instead__ of appending data into the next nr_frag
of the queued skb, a new chained skb is created.
I would normally assume UFO device should get data in nr_frags and not
in frag_list. Later the udp4_hwcsum_outgoing() resets csum to NONE
and skb_gso_segment() has oops.
Proposal:
1. Even length is less than mtu, employ ip_ufo_append_data()
and append data to the __existed__ skb in the sk_write_queue.
2. ip_ufo_append_data() is fixed due to a wrong manipulation of
peek-ing and later enqueue-ing of the same skb. Now, enqueuing is
always performed, because on error the further
ip_flush_pending_frames() would release the queued skb.

commit 0794935e "[NETFILTER]: nf_conntrack: optimize hash_conntrack()"
results in ARM platforms hashing uninitialised padding. This padding
doesn't exist on other architectures.
Fix this by replacing NF_CT_TUPLE_U_BLANK() with memset() to ensure
everything is initialised. There were only 4 bytes that
NF_CT_TUPLE_U_BLANK() wasn't clearing anyway (or 12 bytes on ARM).

where conn templates with protocol=IPPROTO_IP can oops backup box.
Result from ip_vs_proto_get() should be checked because
protocol value can be invalid or unsupported in backup. But
for valid message we should not fail for templates which use
IPPROTO_IP. Also, add checks to validate message limits and
connection state. Show state NONE for templates using IPPROTO_IP.

While reinjecting *bigger* modified versions of IPv6 packets using
libnetfilter_queue, things work fine on a 2.6.24 kernel (2.6.22 too)

Looking at the code, I ended up in nfq_mangle() function (called by
nfqnl_recv_verdict()) which performs a call to skb_copy_expand() due to
the increased size of data passed to the function. AFAICT, it should ask
for 'diff' instead of 'diff - skb_tailroom(e->skb)'. Because the
resulting sk_buff has not enough space to support the skb_put(skb, diff)
call a few lines later, this results in the call to skb_over_panic().
The patch below asks for allocation of a copy with enough space for
mangled packet and the same amount of headroom as old sk_buff. While
looking at how the regression appeared (e2b58a67), I noticed the same
pattern in ipq_mangle_ipv6() and ipq_mangle_ipv4(). The patch corrects
those locations too.
Tested with bigger reinjected IPv6 packets (nfqnl_mangle() path), things
are ok (2.6.25 and today's net-2.6 git tree).

This changes the logic in tcp_is_cwnd_limited() so that cwnd may grow
up to tcp_max_burst() even when sk_can_gso() is false, or when
sysctl_tcp_tso_win_divisor != 0.

This fixes a regression added by ec3c0982a2
("[TCP]: TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT updates - process as established")
tcp_v6_do_rcv()->tcp_rcv_established(), the latter goes to step5, where
eventually skb can be freed via tcp_data_queue() (drop: label), then if
check for tcp_defer_accept_check() returns true and thus
tcp_rcv_established() returns -1, which forces tcp_v6_do_rcv() to jump
to reset: label, which in turn will pass through discard: label and free
the same skb again.

tcp_probe has a bounds-checking bug that causes many programs (less,
python) to crash reading /proc/net/tcp_probe. When it outputs a log
line to the reader, it only checks if that line alone will fit in the
reader's buffer, rather than that line and all the previous lines it
has already written.
tcpprobe_read also returns the wrong value if copy_to_user fails--it
just passes on the return value of copy_to_user (number of bytes not
copied), which makes a failure look like a success.
This patch fixes the buffer overflow and sets the return value to
-EFAULT if copy_to_user fails.
Patch is against latest net-2.6; tested briefly and seems to fix the
crashes in less and python.

What do_gettimeofday() does is to call getnstimeofday() and
to convert the result from timespec{} to timeval{}.
After that, these callers convert the result again to msec.
Use getnstimeofday() and convert the units at once.

None of these files use any of the functionality promised by
asm/semaphore.h. It's possible that they rely on it dragging in some
unrelated header file, but I can't build all these files, so we'll have
fix any build failures as they come up.

tcp_prune_queue() doesn't prune an out-of-order queue at all.
Therefore sk_rmem_schedule() can fail but the out-of-order queue isn't
pruned . This can lead to tcp deadlock state if the next two
conditions are held:
1. There are a sequence hole between last received in
order segment and segments enqueued to the out-of-order queue.
2. Size of all segments in the out-of-order queue is more than tcp_mem[2].

Connection tracking helpers (specifically FTP) need to be called
before NAT sequence numbers adjustments are performed to be able
to compare them against previously seen ones. We've introduced
two new hooks around 2.6.11 to maintain this ordering when NAT
modules were changed to get called from conntrack helpers directly.
The cost of netfilter hooks is quite high and sequence number
adjustments are only rarely needed however. Add a RCU-protected
sequence number adjustment function pointer and call it from
IPv4 conntrack after calling the helper.

Adding extensions to confirmed conntracks is not allowed to avoid races
on reallocation. Don't setup NAT for confirmed conntracks in case NAT
module is loaded late.
The has one side-effect, the connections existing before the NAT module
was loaded won't enter the bysource hash. The only case where this actually
makes a difference is in case of SNAT to a multirange where the IP before
NAT is also part of the range. Since old connections don't enter the
bysource hash the first new connection from the IP will have a new address
selected. This shouldn't matter at all.

Locally generated ICMP packets have a reference to the conntrack entry
of the original packet manually attached by icmp_send(). Therefore the
check for locally originated untracked ICMP redirects can never be
true.

Move the UDP-Lite conntrack checksum validation to a generic helper
similar to nf_checksum() and make it fall back to nf_checksum()
in case the full packet is to be checksummed and hardware checksums
are available. This is to be used by DCCP conntrack, which also
needs to verify partial checksums.

Rule dumping is performed in two steps: first userspace gets the
ruleset size using getsockopt(SO_GET_INFO) and allocates memory,
then it calls getsockopt(SO_GET_ENTRIES) to actually dump the
ruleset. When another process changes the ruleset in between the
sizes from the first getsockopt call doesn't match anymore and
the kernel aborts. Unfortunately it returns EAGAIN, as for multiple
other possible errors, so userspace can't distinguish this case
from real errors.
Return EAGAIN so userspace can retry the operation.

added per-netns _view_ of iptables rules. They were shown to user, but
ignored by filtering code. Now that it's possible to at least ping loopback,
per-netns tables can affect filtering decisions.
netns is taken in case of
PRE_ROUTING, LOCAL_IN -- from in device,
POST_ROUTING, LOCAL_OUT -- from out device,
FORWARD -- from in device which should be equal to out device's netns.
This code is relatively new, so BUG_ON was plugged.
Wrappers were added to a) keep code the same from CONFIG_NET_NS=n users
(overwhelming majority), b) consolidate code in one place -- similar
changes will be done in ipv6 and arp netfilter code.

Dump the mark value in log messages similar to nfnetlink_log. This
is useful for debugging complex setups where marks are used for
routing or traffic classification.

Oops! We have an entry returned by the clusterip_config_find_get,
which is a) not in list b) has a stale dev pointer.
The problems will happen when the CPU2 will release the entry - it
will remove it from the list for the 2nd time, thus spoiling it, and
will put a stale dev pointer.
The fix is to make atomic_dec_and_test under the clusterip_lock.
