Some devices have limited addressing capabilities and cannot
reference the whole memory address space while carrying out DMA
operations (eg some devices with bus address bits range smaller than
system bus - which prevents them from using bus addresses that are
otherwise valid for the system).
The ACPI _DMA object allows bus devices to define the DMA window that is
actually addressable by devices that sit upstream the bus, therefore
providing a means to parse and initialize the devices DMA masks and
addressable DMA range size.
By relying on the generic ACPI kernel layer to retrieve and parse
resources, introduce ACPI core code to parse the _DMA object.

ACPICA commit 01b8f5a2350b9cc329cd8402ac8faec36fc501f5
In order to build ACPICA EFI tools with EDK-II on Windows, 64-bit
multiply/shift supports are also required to be implemented. Otherwise,
MSVC complains:
acpidump.lib(utstrtoul64.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __allmul
acpidump.lib(uthex.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __aullshr
Note:
1. This patch also splits _EDK2_EFI from _GNU_EFI as they might have
different math64 supports.
2. Support of gcc math64 is not included in this patch.
3. Support of EDK2 arch independent math64 is done via linking to base_lib.
This patch fixes this issue. Reported by Shao Ming, fixed by Lv Zheng.
For Linux kernel, this patch is a functional no-op.

ACPICA commit cf27b3c98883d2a15d932016792fcb8272ace96d
The following commit introduces definition of access width to ACPICA.
Commit: 2bece49394
Subject: ACPI: SPCR: Use access width to determine mmio usage
Actually the access bit width can be calculated via access width. It
would be better to define a macro calculating bit width rather than
defining fixed values. This patch thus cleans up the definitions to
reduce divergences.

The acpi_pci_propagate_wakeup() routine is there to handle cases in
which PCI bridges (or PCIe ports) are expected to signal wakeup
for devices below them, but currently it doesn't do that correctly.
The problem is that acpi_pci_propagate_wakeup() uses
acpi_pm_set_device_wakeup() for bridges and if that routine is
called for multiple times to disable wakeup for the same device,
it will disable it on the first invocation and the next calls
will have no effect (it works analogously when called to enable
wakeup, but that is not a problem).
Now, say acpi_pci_propagate_wakeup() has been called for two
different devices under the same bridge and it has called
acpi_pm_set_device_wakeup() for that bridge each time. The
bridge is now enabled to generate wakeup signals. Next,
suppose that one of the devices below it resumes and
acpi_pci_propagate_wakeup() is called to disable wakeup for that
device. It will then call acpi_pm_set_device_wakeup() for the bridge
and that will effectively disable remote wakeup for all devices under
it even though some of them may still be suspended and remote wakeup
may be expected to work for them.
To address this (arguably theoretical) issue, allow
wakeup.enable_count under struct acpi_device to grow beyond 1 in
certain situations. In particular, allow that to happen in
acpi_pci_propagate_wakeup() when wakeup is enabled or disabled
for PCI bridges, so that wakeup is actually disabled for the
bridge when all devices under it resume and not when just one
of them does that.

To prepare for a subsequent change and make the code somewhat easier
to follow, do the following in the ACPI device wakeup handling code:
* Replace wakeup.flags.enabled under struct acpi_device with
wakeup.enable_count as that will be necessary going forward.
For now, wakeup.enable_count is not allowed to grow beyond 1,
so the current behavior is retained.
* Split acpi_device_wakeup() into acpi_device_wakeup_enable()
and acpi_device_wakeup_disable() and modify the callers of
it accordingly.
* Introduce a new acpi_wakeup_lock mutex to protect the wakeup
enabling/disabling code from races in case it is executed
more than once in parallel for the same device (which may
happen for bridges theoretically).

Instead of relying on the struct fwnode_handle type field, define
fwnode_operations structs for all separate types of fwnodes. To find out
the type, compare to the ops field to relevant ops structs.
This change has two benefits:
1. it avoids adding the type field to each and every instance of struct
fwnode_handle, thus saving memory and
2. makes the ops field the single factor that defines both the types of
the fwnode as well as defines the implementation of its operations,
decreasing the possibility of bugs when developing code dealing with
fwnode internals.

uses a default of 8bit register accesses. This prevents devices that
only do 16 or 32bit register accesses from working. By simply checking
this field and setting the MMIO string appropriately, this issue can be

The pme_interrupt flag in struct pci_dev is set when PMEs generated
by the device are going to be signaled via root port PME interrupts.
Ironically enough, that information is only used by the code setting
up device wakeup through ACPI which returns as soon as it sees the
pme_interrupt flag set while setting up "remote runtime wakeup".
That is questionable, however, because in theory there may be PCIe
devices using out-of-band PME signaling under root ports handled
by the native PME code or devices requiring wakeup power setup to be
carried out by AML. For such devices, ACPI wakeup should be invoked
regardless of whether or not native PME signaling is used in general.
For this reason, drop the pme_interrupt flag and rework the code
using it which then allows the ACPI-based device wakeup handling
in PCI to be consolidated to use one code path for both "runtime
remote wakeup" and system wakeup (from sleep states).

Currently, there are two separate ways of handling device wakeup
settings in the ACPI core, depending on whether this is runtime
wakeup or system wakeup (from sleep states). However, after the
previous commit eliminating the run_wake ACPI device wakeup flag,
there is no difference between the two any more at the ACPI level,
so they can be combined.
For this reason, introduce acpi_pm_set_device_wakeup() to replace both
acpi_pm_device_run_wake() and acpi_pm_device_sleep_wake() and make it
check the ACPI device object's wakeup.valid flag to determine whether
or not the device can be set up to generate wakeup signals.
Also notice that zpodd_enable/disable_run_wake() only call
device_set_run_wake() because acpi_pm_device_run_wake() called
device_run_wake(), which is not done by acpi_pm_set_device_wakeup(),
so drop the now redundant device_set_run_wake() calls from there.

The run_wake flag in struct acpi_device_wakeup_flags stores the
information on whether or not the device can generate wakeup
signals at run time, but in ACPI that really is equivalent to
being able to generate wakeup signals at all.
In fact, run_wake will always be set after successful executeion of
acpi_setup_gpe_for_wake(), but if that fails, the device will not be
able to use a wakeup GPE at all, so it won't be able to wake up the
systems from sleep states too. Hence, run_wake actually means that
the device is capable of triggering wakeup and so it is equivalent
to the valid flag.
For this reason, drop run_wake from struct acpi_device_wakeup_flags
and make sure that the valid flag is only set if
acpi_setup_gpe_for_wake() has been successful.

Currently external aborts are unsupported by the guest abort
handling. Add handling for SEAs so that the host kernel reports
SEAs which occur in the guest kernel.
When an SEA occurs in the guest kernel, the guest exits and is
routed to kvm_handle_guest_abort(). Prior to this patch, a print
message of an unsupported FSC would be printed and nothing else
would happen. With this patch, the code gets routed to the APEI
handling of SEAs in the host kernel to report the SEA information.

An SEA can interrupt code that had interrupts masked and is treated as

Commit f406270bf7 ("ACPI / scan: Set the visited flag for all

devices do not enumerate. SPI and I2C devices are expected to be
enumerated by the SPI and I2C subsystems but change caused that
acpi_bus_attach() marks those devices with acpi_device_set_enumerated().
First group of devices are matched using Device Tree compatible property
with special _HID "PRP0001". Those devices have matched scan handler,
acpi_scan_attach_handler() retuns 1 and acpi_bus_attach() marks them
with acpi_device_set_enumerated().
Second group of devices without valid _HID such as "LNXVIDEO" have
device->pnp.type.platform_id set to zero and change again marks them
with acpi_device_set_enumerated().
Fix this by flagging the SPI and I2C devices during struct acpi_device
object initialization time and let the code in acpi_bus_attach() to go
through the device_attach() and acpi_default_enumeration() path for all
SPI and I2C devices.

The ACPI SCI (System Control Interrupt) is set up as a wakeup IRQ
during suspend-to-idle transitions and, consequently, any events
signaled through it wake up the system from that state. However,
on some systems some of the events signaled via the ACPI SCI while
suspended to idle should not cause the system to wake up. In fact,
quite often they should just be discarded.
Arguably, systems should not resume entirely on such events, but in
order to decide which events really should cause the system to resume
and which are spurious, it is necessary to resume up to the point
when ACPI SCIs are actually handled and processed, which is after
executing dpm_resume_noirq() in the system resume path.
For this reasons, add a loop around freeze_enter() in which the
platforms can process events signaled via multiplexed IRQ lines
like the ACPI SCI and add suspend-to-idle hooks that can be
used for this purpose to struct platform_freeze_ops.
In the ACPI case, the ->wake hook is used for checking if the SCI
has triggered while suspended and deferring the interrupt-induced
system wakeup until the events signaled through it are actually
processed sufficiently to decide whether or not the system should
resume. In turn, the ->sync hook allows all of the relevant event
queues to be flushed so as to prevent events from being missed due
to race conditions.
In addition to that, some ACPI code processing wakeup events needs
to be modified to use the "hard" version of wakeup triggers, so that
it will cause a system resume to happen on device-induced wakeup
events even if the "soft" mechanism to prevent the system from
suspending is not enabled. However, to preserve the existing
behavior with respect to suspend-to-RAM, this only is done in
the suspend-to-idle case and only if an SCI has occurred while
suspended.

The work functions provided by the users of acpi_add_pm_notifier()
should be run synchronously before re-enabling the wakeup GPE in
case they are used to clear the status and/or disable the wakeup
signaling at the source. Otherwise, which is the case currently in
the PCI bus type code, the same wakeup event may be signaled for
multiple times while the execution of the work function in response
to it has already been queued up.
Fortunately, acpi_add_pm_notifier() is only used by PCI and by
ACPI device PM code internally, so the change is relatively
straightforward to make.

PinGroupFunction() is a new resource introduced with ACPI 6.2. It is
used with PinGroup() to configure specific mode for a set of pins
exposed by a GPIO controller.
The format of the resource is:
PinGroupFunction (Shared/Exclusive, FunctionNumber, ResourceSource,
ResourceSourceIndex, ResourceSourceLabel,
ResourceUsage, DescriptorName, VendorData)
The resource_source and ResourceSourceLabel fields are used to specify
the PinGroup() resource referenced by PinGroupFunction().
Device (GPIO)
{
Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () {
PinGroup ("group1") {2, 3}
PinGroup ("group2") {4, 5}
...
})
}
Device (I2C)
{
Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () {
PinGroupFunction (Exclusive, 6, "^GPIO", 0, "mygroup2")
})
}
In the above example the PinGroupFunction() references the second
PinGroup() resource (using label "mygroup2" and configures pins 4 and 5

0x00 (Default) - No configuration is applied to the pin
0x01 (Bias Pull-up) - Pin is pulled up using certain size resistor
0x02 (Bias Pull-down) - Pin is pulled down using certain size resistor
0x03 (Bias Default) - Set to default biasing
0x04 (Bias Disable) - All bias settings will be disabled
0x05 (Bias High Impedance) - Configure the pin as hi_z
0x06 (Bias Bus Hold) - Configure the pin in a weak latch state where
it drives the last value on a tristate bus
0x07 (Drive Open Drain) - Configure the pin into open drain state
0x08 (Drive Open Source) - Configure the pin into open source state
0x09 (Drive Push Pull) - Configure the pin into push-pull state
0x0a (Drive Strength) - How much the pin can supply current
0x0b (Slew Rate) - Configure slew rate of the pin
0x0c (Input Debounce) - Enable input debouncer for the pin
0x0d (Input Schmitt Trigger) - Enable schmitt trigger for the pin
0x0e - 0x7f - Reserved
0x80 - 0xff - Vendor defined types
The PinConfigValue depends on the type and is expressed as units
suitable for that type (for example bias uses Ohms).

Considering this case:
1. A program opens a sysfs table file 65535 times, it can increase
validation_count and first increment cause the table to be mapped:
validation_count = 65535
2. AML execution causes "Load" to be executed on the same
table, this time it cannot increase validation_count, so
validation_count remains:
validation_count = 65535
3. The program closes sysfs table file 65535 times, it can decrease
validation_count and the last decrement cause the table to be
unmapped:
validation_count = 0
4. AML code still accessing the loaded table, kernel crash can be
observed.
To prevent that from happening, add a validation_count threashold.
When it is reached, the validation_count can no longer be
incremented/decremented to invalidate the table descriptor (means
preventing table unmappings)

The key feature of this utility is that the original comments within
the input ASL files are preserved during the conversion process, and
included within the converted ASL+ file -- thus creating a transparent
conversion of existing ASL files to ASL+ (ASL 2.0)
This patch is an automatic generation of the ASL converter commit,
Linux kernel isn't affected by the functionality provided in this
commit, but requires the linuxized changes to support future ACPICA
release automation.

ACPICA commit 637b88de24a78c20478728d9d66632b06fcaa5bf

[0ECh 0236 8] SMMU_Nsg_cfg_irpt Interrupt : 0000000000000000

Several Bay / Cherry Trail devices (all of which ship with Windows 10) hide
the LPSS PWM controller in ACPI, typically the _STA method looks like this:
Method (_STA, 0, NotSerialized) // _STA: Status
{
If (OSID == One)
{
Return (Zero)
}
Return (0x0F)
}
Where OSID is some dark magic seen in all Cherry Trail ACPI tables making
the machine behave differently depending on which OS it *thinks* it is
booting, this gets set in a number of ways which we cannot control, on
some newer machines it simple hardcoded to "One" aka win10.
This causes the PWM controller to get hidden, which means Linux cannot
control the backlight level on cht based tablets / laptops.
Since loading the driver for this does no harm (the only in kernel user
of it is the i915 driver, which will only uses it when it needs it), this
commit makes acpi_bus_get_status() always set status to ACPI_STA_DEFAULT
for the LPSS PWM device, fixing the lack of backlight control.

This is an equivalent to the DT's handling of the iommu master's probe
with deferred probing when the corrsponding iommu is not probed yet.
The lack of a registered IOMMU can be caused by the lack of a driver for
the IOMMU, the IOMMU device probe not having been performed yet, having
been deferred, or having failed.
The first case occurs when the firmware describes the bus master and
IOMMU topology correctly but no device driver exists for the IOMMU yet
or the device driver has not been compiled in. Return NULL, the caller
will configure the device without an IOMMU.
The second and third cases are handled by deferring the probe of the bus
master device which will eventually get reprobed after the IOMMU.
The last case is currently handled by deferring the probe of the bus
master device as well. A mechanism to either configure the bus master
device without an IOMMU or to fail the bus master device probe depending
on whether the IOMMU is optional or mandatory would be a good
enhancement.

acpi_dev_found just iterates over all ACPI-ids and sees if one matches.
This means that it will return true for devices which are in the DSDT
but disabled (their _STA method returns 0).
For some drivers it is useful to be able to check if a certain HID
is not only present in the namespace, but also actually present as in
acpi_device_is_present() will return true for the device. For example
because if a certain device is present then the driver will want to use
an extcon or IIO ADC channel provided by that device.
This commit adds a new acpi_dev_present helper which drivers can use
to this end.
Like acpi_dev_found, acpi_dev_present take a HID as argument, but
it also has 2 extra optional arguments to only check for an ACPI
device with a specific UID and/or HRV value. This makes it more
generic and allows it to replace custom code doing similar checks
in several places.
Arguably acpi_dev_present is what acpi_dev_found should have been, but
there are too many users to just change acpi_dev_found without the risk
of breaking something.

Sometimes it is useful to be able to navigate firmware node hierarchy
upwards toward parent nodes. ACPI device nodes are pretty much already
supported because ACPICA provides acpi_get_parent(). ACPI data nodes,
however, are all below the same parent ACPI device. Their hierarchy is
created by "linking" each other using references in the value field.
Add parent pointer to the parent data node while we create them so it is
easy to navigate the hierarchy backwards. We use this parent pointer in a
new function acpi_node_get_parent() that is able to extract parent of both
ACPI firmware node types.

ACPICA commit b59347d0b8b676cb555fe8da5cad08fcd4eeb0d3
The following commit cleans up compiler specific inclusions:
Commit: 9fa1cebdbf
Subject: ACPICA: OSL: Cleanup the inclusion order of the compiler-specific headers
But breaks one thing due to the following old issue:
Buidling Linux kernel with Intel compiler originally depends on acgcc.h
not acintel.h.
So after making Intel compiler build working in ACPICA upstream by
correctly using acintel.h, it becomes unable to build Linux kernel using
Intel compiler as there is no acintel.h in the kernel source tree.
This patch releases acintel.h to Linux kernel and fixes its inclusion in
acenv.h.

ACPICA commit ba665dc8e20d9f7730466a659564dd6c557a6cbc
In Linux, para-virtualization implmentation hooks critical register
writes to prevent real hardware operations. This increases divergences
when the sleep registers are cracked in Linux resident ACPICA.
This patch tries to introduce a single OSL to reduce the divergences.

ACPICA commit cac6790954d4d752a083e6122220b8a22febcd07
This patch back ports Linux acpi_get_table_with_size() and
early_acpi_os_unmap_memory() into ACPICA upstream to reduce divergences.
The 2 APIs are used by Linux as table management APIs for long time, it
contains a hidden logic that during the early stage, the mapped tables
should be unmapped before the early stage ends.
During the early stage, tables are handled by the following sequence:
acpi_get_table_with_size();
parse the table
early_acpi_os_unmap_memory();
During the late stage, tables are handled by the following sequence:
acpi_get_table();
parse the table
Linux uses acpi_gbl_permanent_mmap to distinguish the early stage and the
late stage.
The reasoning of introducing acpi_get_table_with_size() is: ACPICA will
remember the early mapped pointer in acpi_get_table() and Linux isn't able to
prevent ACPICA from using the wrong early mapped pointer during the late
stage as there is no API provided from ACPICA to be an inverse of
acpi_get_table() to forget the early mapped pointer.
But how ACPICA can work with the early/late stage requirement? Inside of
ACPICA, tables are ensured to be remained in "INSTALLED" state during the
early stage, and they are carefully not transitioned to "VALIDATED" state
until the late stage. So the same logic is in fact implemented inside of
ACPICA in a different way. The gap is only that the feature is not provided
to the OSPMs in an accessible external API style.
It then is possible to fix the gap by providing an inverse of
acpi_get_table() from ACPICA, so that the two Linux sequences can be
combined:
acpi_get_table();
parse the table
acpi_put_table();
In order to work easier with the current Linux code, acpi_get_table() and
acpi_put_table() is implemented in a usage counting based style:
1. When the usage count of the table is increased from 0 to 1, table is
mapped and .Pointer is set with the mapping address (VALIDATED);
2. When the usage count of the table is decreased from 1 to 0, .Pointer
is unset and the mapping address is unmapped (INVALIDATED).
So that we can deploy the new APIs to Linux with minimal effort by just
invoking acpi_get_table() in acpi_get_table_with_size() and invoking
acpi_put_table() in early_acpi_os_unmap_memory(). Lv Zheng.

On DT based systems, the of_dma_configure() API implements DMA
configuration for a given device. On ACPI systems an API equivalent to
of_dma_configure() is missing which implies that it is currently not
possible to set-up DMA operations for devices through the ACPI generic
kernel layer.
This patch fills the gap by introducing acpi_dma_configure/deconfigure()
calls that for now are just wrappers around arch_setup_dma_ops() and
arch_teardown_dma_ops() and also updates ACPI and PCI core code to use
the newly introduced acpi_dma_configure/acpi_dma_deconfigure functions.
Since acpi_dma_configure() is used to configure DMA operations, the
function initializes the dma/coherent_dma masks to sane default values
if the current masks are uninitialized (also to keep the default values
consistent with DT systems) to make sure the device has a complete
default DMA set-up.
The DMA range size passed to arch_setup_dma_ops() is sized according
to the device coherent_dma_mask (starting at address 0x0), mirroring the
DT probing path behaviour when a dma-ranges property is not provided
for the device being probed; this changes the current arch_setup_dma_ops()
call parameters in the ACPI probing case, but since arch_setup_dma_ops()
is a NOP on all architectures but ARM/ARM64 this patch does not change
the current kernel behaviour on them.

Currently, intel_pstate is unable to control P-states on my
IvyBridge-based Acer Aspire S5, because they are controlled by SMM
on that machine by default and it is necessary to request OS control
of P-states from it via the SMI Command register exposed in the ACPI
FADT. intel_pstate doesn't do that now, but acpi-cpufreq and other
cpufreq drivers for x86 platforms do.
Address this problem by making intel_pstate use the ACPI-defined
mechanism as well. However, intel_pstate is not modular and it
doesn't need the module refcount tricks played by
acpi_processor_notify_smm(), so export the core of this function
to it as acpi_processor_pstate_control() and make it call that.
[The changes in processor_perflib.c related to this should not
make any functional difference for the acpi_processor_notify_smm()
users].
To be safe, only call acpi_processor_notify_smm() from intel_pstate
if ACPI _PPC support is enabled in it.

ACPICA commit 0e24fb67cde08d7df7671d7d7b183490dc79707e
The MLC (Module Level Code) is an ACPICA terminology describing the AML
code out of any control method, its support is an indication of the
interpreter behavior during the table loading.
The original implementation of MLC in ACPICA had several issues:
1. Out of any control method, besides of the object creating opcodes, only
the code blocks wrapped by "If/Else/While" opcodes were supported.
2. The supported MLC code blocks were executed after loading the table
rather than being executed right in place.
============================================================
The demo of this order issue is as follows:
Name (OBJ1, 1)
If (CND1 == 1)
{
Name (OBJ2, 2)
}
Name (OBJ3, 3)
The original MLC support created OBJ2 after OBJ3's creation.
============================================================
Other than these limitations, MLC support in ACPICA looks correct. And
supporting this should be easy/natural for ACPICA, but enabling of this was
blocked by some ACPICA internal and OSPM specific initialization order
issues we've fixed recently. The wrong support started from the following
false bug fixing commit:
Commit: 7f0c826a43
Subject: ACPICA: Add support for module-level executable AML code
Commit: 9a884ab64a
Subject: ACPICA: Add additional module-level code support
...
We can confirm Windows interpreter behavior via reverse engineering means.
It can be proven that not only If/Else/While wrapped code blocks, all
opcodes can be executed at the module level, including operation region
accesses. And it can be proven that the MLC should be executed right in
place, not in such a deferred way executed after loading the table.
And the above facts indeed reflect the spec words around ACPI definition
block tables (DSDT/SSDT/...), the entire table and the Scope object is
defined by the AML specification in BNF style as:
AMLCode := def_block_header term_list
def_scope := scope_op pkg_length name_string term_list
The bodies of the scope opening terms (AMLCode/Scope) are all term_list,
thus the table loading should be no difference than the control method
evaluations as the body of the Method is also defined by the AML
specification as term_list:
def_method := method_op pkg_length name_string method_flags term_list
The only difference is: after evaluating control method, created named
objects may be freed due to no reference, while named objects created by
the table loading should only be freed after unloading the table.
So this patch follows the spec and the de-facto standard behavior, enables
the new grammar (term_list) for the table loading.
By doing so, beyond the fixes to the above issues, we can see additional
differences comparing to the old grammar based table loading:
1. Originally, beyond the scope opening terms (AMLCode/Scope),
If/Else/While wrapped code blocks under the scope creating terms
(Device/power_resource/Processor/thermal_zone) are also supported as
deferred MLC, which violates the spec defined grammar where object_list
is enforced. With MLC support improved as non-deferred, the interpreter
parses such scope creating terms as term_list rather object_list like the
scope opening terms.
After probing the Windows behavior and proving that it also parses these
terms as term_list, we submitted an ECR (Engineering Change Request) to
the ASWG (ACPI Specification Working Group) to clarify this. The ECR is
titled as "ASL Grammar Clarification for Executable AML Opcodes" and has
been accepted by the ASWG. The new grammar will appear in ACPI
specification 6.2.
2. Originally, Buffer/Package/operation_region/create_XXXField/bank_field
arguments are evaluated in a deferred way after loading the table. With
MLC support improved, they are also parsed right in place during the
table loading.
This is also Windows compliant and the only difference is the removal
of the debugging messages implemented before acpi_ds_execute_arguments(),
see Link # [1] for the details. A previous commit should have ensured
that acpi_check_address_range() won't regress.
Note that enabling this feature may cause regressions due to long term
Linux ACPI support on top of the wrong grammar. So this patch also prepares
a global option to be used to roll back to the old grammar during the
period between a regression is reported and the regression is
root-cause-fixed. Lv Zheng.

The CPPC tables contain entries for per CPU feedback counters which
allows us to compute the delivered performance over a given interval
of time.
The math for delivered performance per the CPPCv5.0+ spec is:
reference perf * delta(delivered perf ctr)/delta(ref perf ctr)
Maintaining deltas of the counters in the kernel is messy, as it
depends on when the reads are triggered. (e.g. via the cpufreq
->get() interface). Also the ->get() interace only returns one
value, so cant return raw values. So instead, leave it to userspace
to keep track of raw values and do its math for CPUs it cares about.
delivered and reference perf counters are exposed via the same
sysfs file to avoid the potential "skid", if these values are read
individually from userspace.

CPPC defined in section 8.4.7 of ACPI 6.0 specification suggests
"To amortize the cost of PCC transactions, OSPM should read or write
all PCC registers via a single read or write command when possible"
This patch enables opportunistic batching of frequency transition
requests whenever the request happen to overlap in time.
Currently the access to pcc is serialized by a spin lock which does
not scale well as we increase the number of cores in the system. This
patch improves the scalability by allowing the differnt CPU cores to
update PCC subspace in parallel and by batching requests which will
reduce the certain types of operation(checking command completion bit,
ringing doorbell) by a significant margin.
Profiling shows significant improvement in the overall effeciency
to service freq. transition requests. With this patch we observe close
to 30% of the frequency transition requests being batched with other
requests while running apache bench on a ARM platform with 6
independent domains(or sets of related cpus).

ACPICA commit a760a98ec84b1ec782e0bff5f6612af6fb89c10c
Originally compiler specific headers are included by the host-specific
headers. This makes build configuration management very inconvenient. And
many inclusion order issues can be hidden accross different host OSes. It
will then likely that some host builds will be broken just because of
fixing some inclusion order issues for other host builds.
This patch splits the compiler-specific header inclusions out of the
host-specific headers so that compiler-specific inclusion order issues will
not get entangled in the host-specific inclusion orders.
Note that intel compiler defines __GNUC__, so this patch contains special
handling because acintel.h and acgcc.h should be mutual exclusive.

ACPICA commit 9bb265c2afb9910e46f820d6759648580edabd09
When /Za is specified, headers of some Windows SDKs contain bugs breaking
VC builds, and MSVC9's default SDK is one of such header-buggy library.
In order to solve this issue, many VC developers stop using /Za. However
we've been asked to have this fixed without removing /Za.
In MSVC9 default SDK, this issue can be fixed by restricting <sys/stat.h>
to be the last standard file included by every source file in the projects.
This patch thus moves <sys/stat.h> inclusion to "acapps.h", so that this
issue can be fixed by ensuring that "acapps.h" is always the last standard
file included by all of the ACPICA source files. This is in fact also a
useful cleanup because applications can only include one header (e.x.,
acpidump.h) instead of including acapps.h separately. Lv Zheng.

When mini C library is used, we should have the following macros undefined.
The only user should be the EFI applications:
ACPI_USE_SYSTEM_CLIBRARY=n
ACPI_USE_STANDARD_HEADERS=n
All other applications uses the compiler specific library:
ACPI_USE_SYSTEM_CLIBRARY=y
ACPI_USE_STANDARD_HEADERS=y
Linux/BSD kernels are the kind of hosts providing C library but does not
provide the standard headers:
ACPI_USE_SYSTEM_CLIBRARY=y
ACPI_USE_STANDARD_HEADERS=n
But the above logic hasn't been synchronized between the header files.
This patch synchronizes all header files to correct C library usages for
different platforms. This patch moves all ACPI_USE_SYSTEM_CLIRARY and
ACPI_USE_STANDARD_HEADERS to the top most lines of a platform specific
header.
After synchronization, ACPI_USE_SYSTEM_CLIRARY definition can be removed

ACPICA commit 23a417ca406a527e7ae1710893e59a8b6db30e14
There is a facility in Linux, developers can control the enabling/disabling
of a GPE via /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpexx. This is mainly for
debugging purposes.
But many users expect to use this facility to implement quirks to mask a
specific GPE when there is a gap in Linux causing this GPE to flood. This
is not working correctly because currently this facility invokes
enabling/disabling counting based GPE driver APIs:
acpi_enable_gpe()/acpi_disable_gpe()
and the GPE drivers can still affect the count to mess up the GPE
masking purposes.
However, most of the IRQ chip designs allow masking/unmasking IRQs via a
masking bit which is different from the enabled bit to achieve the same
purpose. But the GPE hardware doesn't contain such a feature, this brings
the trouble.
In this patch, we introduce a software mechanism to implement the GPE
masking feature, and acpi_mask_gpe() are provided to the OSPMs to
mask/unmask GPEs in the above mentioned situation instead of
acpi_enable_gpe()/acpi_disable_gpe(). ACPICA BZ 1102. Lv Zheng.

There was only one use of __initdata_refok and __exit_refok
__init_refok was used 46 times against 82 for __ref.
Those definitions are obsolete since commit 312b1485fb ("Introduce new
section reference annotations tags: __ref, __refdata, __refconst")
This patch removes the following compatibility definitions and replaces
them treewide.
/* compatibility defines */
#define __init_refok __ref
#define __initdata_refok __refdata
#define __exit_refok __ref
I can also provide separate patches if necessary.
(One patch per tree and check in 1 month or 2 to remove old definitions)

Majority of this update is about ASoC, including a few new drivers,
and the rest are mostly minor changes. The only substantial change in
ALSA core is about the additional error handling in the
compress-offload API. Below are highlights:
- Add the error propagating support in compress-offload API
- HD-audio: a usual Dell headset fixup, an Intel HDMI/DP fix, and the
default mixer setup change ot turn off the loopback
- Lots of updates for ASoC Intel drivers, mostly board support and bug
fixing, and to the NAU8825 driver
- Work on generalizing bits of simple-card to allow more code sharing
with the Renesas rsrc-card (which can't use simple-card due to DPCM)
- Removal of the Odroid X2 driver due to replacement with simple-card
- Support for several new Mediatek platforms and associated boards
- New ASoC drivers for Allwinner A10, Analog Devices ADAU7002, Broadcom
Cygnus, Cirrus Logic CS35L33 and CS53L30, Maxim MAX8960 and MAX98504,
Realtek RT5514 and Wolfson WM8758
