Raphael Assenat 45536d373a Input: joydev - do not report stale values on first open
Postpone axis initialization to the first open instead of doing it
in joydev_connect. This is to make sure the generated startup events
are representative of the current joystick state rather than what
it was when joydev_connect() was called, potentially much earlier.
Once the first user is connected to joydev node we'll be updating
joydev->abs[] values and subsequent clients will be getting correct
initial states as well.

This solves issues with joystick driven menus that start scrolling
up each time they are started, until the user moves the joystick to
generate events. In emulator menu setups where the menu program is
restarted every time the game exits, the repeated need to move the
joystick to stop the unintended scrolling gets old rather quickly...

Benjamin Tissoires 19ba1eb15a Input: psmouse - add a custom serio protocol to send extra information
The tracksticks on the Lenovo thinkpads have their buttons connected
through the touchpad device. We already fixed that in synaptics.c, but
when we switch the device into RMI4 mode to have proper support, the
pass-through functionality can't deal with them easily.

We add a new PS/2 flag and protocol designed for psmouse. The RMI4 F03
pass-through can then emit a special set of commands to notify psmouse the
state of the buttons.

This patch implements the protocol in psmouse, while an other will
do the same for rmi4-f03.

This commit sets debounce_interval to 50ms to avoid spurious button
press reports both on press and release of the button. Note 50ms may
seem like a lot but soc_button_array is typically used with cheap
tablets, with not so great buttons. I tried 10ms on my tablet and it
is not enough, where as 50ms works well.

Using counter based retry loops for peripherals results in the delay

condition the termination on the actual condition of 2s for the

msleep(1~20) may not do what the caller intends, and will often sleep
longer (~20 ms actual sleep for any value given in the 1~20ms range). This
is not the desired behaviour for many cases like device resume time, device

msleep (1~20) may not do what the caller intends, and will often sleep

Dmitry Torokhov d79e141c1c Input: i8042 - Trust firmware a bit more when probing on X86
The error message "Can't read CTR while initializing i8042" appears on
Cherry Trail-based devices at each boot time:

i8042: PNP: No PS/2 controller found. Probing ports directly.
  i8042: Can't read CTR while initializing i8042
i8042: probe of i8042 failed with error -5

This happens because we historically do not trust firmware on X86 and,
while noting that PNP does not show keyboard or mouse devices, we still
charge ahead and try to probe the controller. Let's relax this a bit and if
results of PNP probe agree with the results of platform
initialization/quirks conclude that there is, in fact, no i8042.

While at it, let's avoid using x86_platform.i8042_detect() and instead
abort execution early if platform indicates that it can not possibly have
i8042 (x86_platform.legacy.i8042 equals X86_LEGACY_I8042_PLATFORM_ABSENT).

Dmitry Torokhov 1a9027770f Input: i8042 - force synchronous probing of PNP drivers
We rely on the result of scanning PNP bus for keyboard and mouse devices to
decide whether we should continue initialization of i8042 driver or not, so
the probes can not be asynchronous.

Also, it is not a good idea to unbind either of the PNP devices while i8042
is running, so let's disable bind/unbind for the PNP drivers through sysfs
and rely on i8042 cleaning after itself properly. User can still unbind and
rebind entire i8042 and that will take care of PNP drivers as well.

Aniroop Mathur 67626c9323 Input: synaptics_i2c - change msleep to usleep_range for small msecs
msleep(1~20) may not do what the caller intends, and will often sleep longer.
(~20 ms actual sleep for any value given in the 1~20ms range)
This is not the desired behaviour for many cases like device resume time,
device suspend time, device enable time, retry logic, etc.
Thus, change msleep to usleep_range for precise wakeups.

Linus Torvalds ce38207f16 sound updates for 4.10-rc1
No dramatic changes are found in this development cycle, but as usual,
many commits are applied in a wide range of drivers.

Most of big changes are in ASoC, where a few bits of framework work
and quite a lot of cleanups and improvements to existing code have
been done. The rest are usual stuff, a few HD-audio and USB-audio
quirks and fixes, as well as the drop of kthread usages in the whole
 subsystem.

 Below are some highlights:

 ASoC:
 - Support for stereo DAPM controls
 - Some initial work on the of-graph sound card
 - regmap conversions of the remaining AC'97 drivers
 - A new version of the topology ABI; this should be backward compatible
 - Updates / cleanups of rsnd, sunxi, sti, nau8825, samsung, arizona,
   Intel skylake, atom-sst
 - New drivers for Cirrus Logic CS42L42, Qualcomm MSM8916-WCD, and
   Realtek RT5665

 USB-audio:
 - Yet another race fix at disconnection
 - Tolerated packet size calculation for some Android devices
 - Quirks for Axe-Fx II, QuickCam, TEAC 501/503

 HD-audio:
 - Improvement of Dell pin fixup mapping
 - Quirks for HP Z1 Gen3, Alienware 15 R2 2016 and ALC622 headset mic

 Misc:
 - Replace all kthread usages with simple works

Besides being logically wrong, it messed up with devm handling of input

Vladimir Zapolskiy 951a086437 Input: lpc32xx-keys - fix invalid error handling of a requested irq
Semantics of NR_IRQS is different on machines with SPARSE_IRQ option

Guy Shapiro accbcea346 Input: imx6ul_tsc - convert int to u32
The code uses of_property_read_u32 and expects positive values. However,
the values are stored in signed int variables. Additionally, the registers
values are also stored in signed variables without a good reason
(readl/writel expect u32).

The only time this caused a real bug was in the new average-samples
property, in which the property is numerically compared and implicitly
expected to be positive.

I believe it's better to change all the properties and registers to u32,
for consistency and warnings reduction.

Cameron Gutman ae3b4469db Input: xpad - fix Xbox One rumble stopping after 2.5 secs
Unlike previous Xbox pads, the Xbox One pad doesn't have "sticky" rumble
packets. The duration is encoded into the command and expiration is handled
by the pad firmware.

ff-memless needs pseudo-sticky behavior for rumble effects to behave
properly for long duration effects. We already specify the maximum rumble
on duration in the command packets, but it's still only good for about 2.5
seconds of rumble. This is easily reproducible running fftest's sine
vibration test.

It turns out there's a repeat count encoded in the rumble command. We can
abuse that to get the pseudo-sticky behavior needed for rumble to behave as
expected for effects with long duration.

By my math, this change should allow a single ff_effect to rumble for 10
minutes straight, which should be more than enough for most needs.

This breaks few platforms with the following error:

Dmitry Torokhov e9fb7cc638 Input: psmouse - disable automatic probing of BYD touchpads
BYD automatic protocol detection is extremely unreliable and is often
triggers false positives on regular mice, Sentelic touchpads, and other
devices. BYD has several documents that have recommended detection
sequence, but they conflict with each other and, as far as I can see, still
would not produce unique enough output to reliably differentiate BYD from
other PS/2 devices.

OEMs sourcing BYD devices also do not do us any favors by not supplying any
reasonable DMI data and instead leaving turds like "To Be Filled By O.E.M."
in place of vendor data, or "System Serial Number" as serial number.

On top of that BYD is not truly modern multitouch controller, but rather a
single-touch transitional device that only reports absolute coordinates at
the beginning of finger contact and then reverts to reporting
displacements, and thus not very precise; the only benefit from using BYD
mode vs the legacy PS/2 mode is possibility of edge scrolling.

Given the above, and the fact that BYD devices are somewhat uncommon, let's
disable automatic detection of BYD devices. Users who know they have BYD
trackpads or want to experiment can attempt to activate BYD protocol via
sysfs:

	echo -n "byd" > /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/drvctl

commit ef3714fdbc ("Input: bma150 - extend chip detection for bma180"),
adds bma180 chip-ids to the input bma150 driver, assuming that they are
100% compatible, but the bma180 is not compatible with the bma150 at all,
it has 14 bits resolution instead of 10, and it has quite different
control registers too.

Treating the bma180 as a bma150 wrt its data registers will just result
in throwing away the lowest 4 bits, which is not too bad. But the ctrl
registers are a different story. Things happen to just work but supporting
that certainly does not make treating the bma180 the same as the bma150
right.

Since some setups depend on the evdev interface the bma150 driver offers
on top of the bma180, we cannot simply remove the bma180 ids.

So this commit only removes the bma180 id when the bma180 iio driver,
which does treat the bma180 properly, is enabled.

It does not matter if given GPIO may sleep or not when reading state,
polling is always done in a non-atomic context, so we should always
be able to simply use gpiod_get_value_cansleep().

Marcos Paulo de Souza 930e19248e Input: i8042 - skip selftest on ASUS laptops
On suspend/resume cycle, selftest is executed to reset i8042 controller.
But when this is done in Asus devices, subsequent calls to detect/init
functions to elantech driver fails. Skipping selftest fixes this problem.

An easier step to reproduce this problem is adding i8042.reset=1 as a
kernel parameter. On Asus laptops, it'll make the system to start with the
touchpad already stuck, since psmouse_probe forcibly calls the selftest
function.

This patch was inspired by John Hiesey's change[1], but, since this problem
affects a lot of models of Asus, let's avoid running selftests on them.

   - a new "gpio-decoder" driver to read and report state of several
     GPIO lines

   - an ADC resistor ladder driver

   - the ft6326 driver is removed because edt-ft5x06 handles the same
     devices just fine.

.. plus the regular slew of driver fixes/enhancements"
