Dmitry Osipenko 6996312642 power: supply: smb347-charger: Fix interrupt usage if interrupt is unavailable
The IRQ=0 could be a valid interrupt number in kernel because interrupt
numbers are virtual in a modern kernel. Hence fix the interrupt usage in
a case if interrupt is unavailable by not overriding the interrupt number
which is used by the driver.

Note that currently Nexus 7 is the only know device which uses SMB347
kernel diver and it has a properly working interrupt, hence this patch
doesn't fix any real problems, it's a minor cleanup/improvement.

Samuel Holland b5e8642ed9 power: supply: axp20x_usb_power: Init work before enabling IRQs
The IRQ handler calls mod_delayed_work() on power->vbus_detect. However,
that work item is not initialized until after the IRQs are enabled. If
an IRQ is already pending when the driver is probed, the driver calls
mod_delayed_work() on an uninitialized work item, which causes an oops.

Hermes Zhang 3ed510f06e power: supply: bq27xxx: Support CHARGE_NOW for bq27z561/bq28z610/bq34z100
Currently REG_NAC (nominal available capacity) is mapped to
power-supply's CHARGE_NOW property. Some chips do not have
REG_NAC and do not expose CHARGE_NOW at the moment. Some
bq27xxx chips also have another register REG_RM (remaining
capacity). The difference between REG_NAC and REG_RM is load
compensation.

This patch adds register information for REG_RM for all
supported fuel gauges. On systems having REG_NAC it is
ignored, so behaviour does not change. On systems without
REG_NAC, REG_RM will be used to provide CHARGE_NOW
functionality.

As a result there are three more chips exposing CHARGE_NOW:
bq27z561, bq28z610 and bq34z100

Arthur Demchenkov faf6e90081 power: supply: cpcap-battery: Keep track of state for capacity reporting
Save the battery empty and full states so we can use those to estimate
the battery capacity in the following patches.

If the user provides us with charge_full value (which it could save in a
permanent storage between reboots), initialize low and high counter_uah
with calculated values.

If we hit battery low once, we should stick on reporting it until the
charger is connected. This way low->counter_uah will be updated
properly, and that will allow us to get more accurate charge_full value.

Based on an earlier patch by Tony Lindgren with charge_full usage and
other improvments done by Arthur Demchenkov.

We now get battery full notification from cpcap-charger, so let's use that
for battery full status and charger disconnect.

Note that any current based battery full detection we have tried earlier is
flakey as it won't account for example for CPU load increasing the battery
current. Anyways, if current based battery full detection is also still
needed, we can reconsider adding it in addition to the charger status based

Tony Lindgren 2071236b85 power: supply: cpcap-charger: Provide state updates for battery from charger
We want to have the battery update it's status when the charge is done,
and when the charger is disconnected. Otherwise the battery does not know
when it's full unless there's a userspace app polling the battery status.

To do this, we add supplied_to handling to cpcap-battery, and implement
power_supply_changed() for cpcap-charger. When cpcap-charger calls
power_supply_changed(), cpcap-battery will update it's status.

Let's also use new_state variable for the POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS_CHARGING
case to have unified handling for the switch.

Linus Walleij 50da8d04ee power: supply: max8903: Convert to GPIO descriptors
The MAX8903 uses up to 5 different GPIO lines to control and
monitor charging.

When converting to use GPIO descriptors instead of the old
GPIO numbers the following side-refactorings were done:

- Decomission the platform data container struct as all
GPIO descriptors are now "live" members of the driver
state container. The "dc_valid" and "usb_valid" just
indicate the presence of a DC or USB charger detection
line, and this can be handled by just checking if
the optional GPIO descriptor for each is != NULL.

- The gpiolib will now respect the GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW flag
for each of the lines, meaning gpiod_get_value() for example
will return 1 (asserted) if a line is flagged as
active low and is also physically low. The same applies
to output lines, vice versa mutatis mutandis. The code
has been augmented to account for this in all sites.

- The terse parenthesis such as this:
    gpio_set_value(pdata->cen, ta_in ? 0 :
                     (data->usb_in ? 0 : 1));
have been expanded to more readable if / else if / else
statements that are easier for humans to read.

- Comments were inserted to underscore polarity in each
case where it could be confusing to users of the old code.

One thing is notable: the device tree bindings does not show
an example of polarity assigned for the line "dcm-gpios"
DC current monitor, is assumed to be flagged GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH
and driving it high (asserted) will achieve DC charger current
limits and driving it low will achieve USB charger current
limits. Device trees with this (optional) GPIO line defined
should definately be flagged as GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH.

Hans de Goede a0f1ccd96c power: supply: axp288_charger: Fix HP Pavilion x2 10 DMI matching
Commit 9c80662a74 ("power: supply: axp288_charger: Add special handling
for HP Pavilion x2 10") added special handling for HP Pavilion x2 10
models which use the weird combination of a Type-C connector and the
non Type-C aware AXP288 PMIC.

This special handling was activated by a DMI match a the product-name
of "HP Pavilion x2 Detachable". Recently I've learned that there are
also older "HP Pavilion x2 Detachable" models with an AXP288 PMIC +
a micro-usb connector where we should not activate the special handling
for the Type-C connectors.

Extend the matching to also match on the DMI board-name and match on the
2 boards (one Bay Trail based one Cherry Trail based) of which we are
certain that they use the AXP288 + Type-C connector combination.

Note the DSDT code from these older (AXP288 + micro-USB) models contains
some AML code (which never runs under Linux) which reads the micro-USB
connector id-pin and if it is pulled to ground, which would normally mean
the port is in host mode!, then it sets the input-current-limit to 3A,
it seems HP is using the micro-USB port as a charging only connector
and identifies their own 3A capable charger though this hack which is a
major violation of the USB specs. Note HP also hardcodes a 2A limit
when the id-pin is not pulled to ground, which is also in violation
of the specs.

I've no intention to add support for HP's hack to support 3A charging
on these older models. By making the DMI matches for the Type-C equipped
models workaround more tighter, these older models will be treated just
like any other AXP288 + micro-USB equipped device and the input-current
limit will follow the BC 1.2 spec (using the defacto standard values
there where the BC 1.2 spec defines a range).

Linus Torvalds e731f3146f ARM: SoC platform updates
SoC changes, a substantial part of this is cleanup of some of the older
platforms that used to have a bunch of board files. In particular:

  - Removal of non-DT i.MX platforms that haven't seen activity in years,
    it's time to remove them.
  - A bunch of cleanup and removal of platform data for TI/OMAP platforms,
moving over to genpd for power/reset control (yay!)
  - Major cleanup of Samsung S3C24xx and S3C64xx platforms, moving them
closer to multiplatform support (not quite there yet, but getting
    close).

THere are a few other changes too, smaller fixlets, etc. For new
platform support, the primary ones re:

  - New SoC: Hisilicon SD5203, ARM926EJ-S platform.
  - Cpufreq support for i.MX7ULP

Geert Uytterhoeven 7007fab4ae power: reset: POWER_RESET_OCELOT_RESET should depend on Ocelot or Sparx5
To add support for Sparx5, the dependency on MSCC_OCELOT was removed.
However, this increases exposure of the driver question not only to
Sparx5 platforms, but to everyone. Hence re-add the dependency on
MSCC_OCELOT, and extend it with ARCH_SPARX5, to prevent asking the user
about this driver when configuring a kernel without Ocelot and Sparx5

Sebastian Reichel e3f2396b75 power: supply: sbs-battery: chromebook workaround for PEC
Looks like the I2C tunnel implementation from Chromebook's
embedded controller does not handle PEC correctly. Fix this
by disabling PEC for batteries behind those I2C tunnels as
a workaround.

Note, that some Chromebooks actually have been reported to
have working PEC support (with I2C tunnel). Since the problem
has not yet been fully understood this simply reverts all
Chromebooks to not use PEC for now.

Lucas Stach 81196e2e57 power: supply: ucs1002: fix some health status issues
Some fault events like the over-current condition will get resolved
by the hardware, by e.g. disabling the port. As the status in the
interrupt status register is cleared on read when the fault is resolved,
the sysfs health property will only contain the correct health status
for the first time it is read after such an event, even if the actual
fault condition (like a VBUS short) still persists. To reflect this
properly in the property we cache the last health status and only update
the cache when a actual change happens, i.e. the ERR bit in the status
register flips, as this one properly reflects a continued fault condition.

The ALERT pin however, is not driven by the ERR status, but by the actual
fault status, so the pin will change back to it's default state when the
hardware has automatically resolved the fault by cutting the power. Thus
we never get an IRQ when the actual fault condition has been resolved and
the ERR status bit has been cleared in auto-recovery mode. To get this
information we need to poll the interrupt status register after some time
to see if the fault is gone and update our cache in that case.

To avoid any additional locking, we handle both paths (IRQ firing and
delayed polling) through the same single-threaded delayed work.

Big cleanup for the Samsung S3C24xx and S3C64xx platforms, although it

The goal is to cleanup, merge and finally make the Samsung S3C24xx and
S3C64xx architectures multiplatform. The multiplatform did not happen
yet here - just cleaning up and merging into one arch/arm/mach-s3c
directory. However this is step forward for multiplatform or at least
to keep this code still maintainable.

This pulls also branch with changes for Samsung SoC sound drivers from

Jonghwa Lee e132fc6bb8 power: supply: charger-manager: Make decisions focussed on battery status
cm_monitor(), where charging management starts, checks various charging
condition sequentially to decide next charging operation. However, as it
follows sequential process, cascaded if statements, it does some
jobs which have already done in the previous stage. This results in a
delay in decision making. Moreover, starting point of charging is spread
all around which makes maintain code and debugging difficult.

Both of the problems mentioned above become clean if it manages battery
charging focusing on battery status not following sequential condition
checking. Now, cm_monitor() moves battery state diagram and does the
optimal operation for current state. As a result, it reduces whole
monitoring time almost in half.

Charging also starts after plugging USB.

Known issues of the fuel gauge: There are drivers in the wild which disable

This patch adds device-tree support to the SMB347 charger driver. All

map GPIO to IRQ manually in the case of DT.

Sebastian Reichel 7222bd603d power: supply: sbs-battery: add PEC support
SBS batteries optionally have support for PEC. This enables
PEC handling based on the implemented SBS version as suggested
by the standard. The support for PEC is re-evaluated when the
battery is hotplugged into the system, since there might be
systems supporting batteries from different SBS generations.

Sebastian Reichel 05e0430971 power: supply: sbs-battery: use i2c_smbus_read_block_data()
The SBS battery implements SMBus block reads. Currently the
driver "emulates" this by doing an I2C byte read for the
length followed by an I2C block read. The I2C subsystem
actually provides a proper API for doing SMBus block reads,
which can and should be used instead. The current implementation
does not properly handle packet error checking (PEC).

Not all upstream systems using sbs-battery have I2C bus drivers
supporting I2C_M_RECV_LEN, so old implementation is kept as
fallback to keep things working. But this prints a warning,
which hopefully results in people implementing support for it.

Sebastian Reichel 1d85f6d1b0 power: supply: gpio-charger: Make gpios optional
While strongly recommended, not all devices have a gpio to
detect if the charger is connected. This moves the 'gpios'
from required to optional section.

This also modifies error handling for the GPIO a bit: We
no longer fallback to pdata, if a GPIO is specified using
GPIO descriptor tables. This is a bit cleaner and does
not have any real impact: There are only two mainline pdata
users (arm/mach-sa1100/collie.c, arm/mach-pxa/tosa.c) and
none of them specify the GPIO via gpiod descriptor tables.
Once both have been converted the driver's support for
specifying GPIOs numbers in pdata will be dropped.

Linus Torvalds 694b5a5d31 ARM: SoC changes for v5.8
One new platform gets added, the Realtek RTD1195, which is an older
Cortex-a7 based relative of the RTD12xx chips that are already supported
in arch/arm64. The platform may also be extended to support running
32-bit kernels on those 64-bit chips for memory-constrained machines.

In the Renesas shmobile platform, we gain support for "RZ/G1H" or R8A7742,
an eight-core chip based on Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 cores, originally
released in 2016 as one of the last high-end 32-bit designs.

There is ongoing cleanup for the integrator, tegra, imx, and omap2
platforms, with integrator getting very close to the goal of having
zero code in arch/arm/, and omap2 moving more of the chip specifics
from old board code into device tree files.

The Versatile Express platform is made more modular, with built-in
drivers now becoming loadable modules. This is part of a greater effort
for the Android OS to have a common kernel binary for all platforms and
any platform specific code in loadable modules.

The PXA platform drops support for Compulab's pxa2xx boards that had
rather unusual flash and PCI drivers but no known users remaining.
All device drivers specific to those boards can now get removed as
 well.

Across platforms, there is ongoing cleanup, with Geert and Rob
revisiting some a lot of Kconfig options.

Sebastian Reichel 972eabb97a Revert "power: supply: sbs-battery: simplify read_read_string_data"
The commit is a nice cleanup, but breaks booting on exynos5 based
chromebooks. It's seems to come down to exynos5's i2c driver not
implementing I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_READ_BLOCK_DATA. It's not yet clear
why that breaks boot / massively slows it down when userspace
starts, so revert the problematic patch.

This reverts commit c4b12a2f3f.

Sebastian Reichel cf1eb321d1 Revert "power: supply: sbs-battery: add PEC support"
This depends on the simplification of sbs_read_string_data, which
breaks booting exynos5 based chromebooks. More investigation is
required, so this patch and the simplification patch are reverted
for this merge window.

Note, that this is only a partial revert, since sbs_update_presence()
has not been removed. It is also required for the charger broadcast
disabling.

This reverts commit 79bcd5a4a6.

Jean-Francois Dagenais 182fc88268 power: supply: sbs-battery: add ability to disable charger broadcasts
In certain designs, it is possible to add a battery on a populated i2c
bus without an sbs compliant charger. In that case, the battery will
unnecessarily and sometimes undesirably master the bus trying to write
info in the charger.

It is observed in many occasion that these battery "broadcasts" are even
corrupting other ongoing master to slave communication. I.e. the
multi-master support in the battery is inadequate.

Thankfully, the CHARGER_MODE bit allows designers to disable that SBS
battery behaviour.

This needs to be done once when the battery is first seen on the bus.

Sebastian Reichel f0318bc99c power: supply: sbs-battery: fix idle battery status
A battery, that is neither charged, nor discharged is not
always Full. If the charger is disabled for other reasons
it might simply be idle and should be marked accordingly.
