It's a sad fact that at this point various cgroup controllers are
carrying so many idiosyncrasies and pure insanities that it simply
isn't possible to reach any sort of sane consistent behavior while
maintaining staying fully compatible with what already has been
exposed to userland.
As we can't break exposed userland interface, transitioning to sane
behaviors can only be done in steps while maintaining backwards
compatibility. This patch introduces a new mount option -
__DEVEL__sane_behavior - which disables crazy features and enforces
consistent behaviors in cgroup core proper and various controllers.
As exactly which behaviors it changes are still being determined, the
mount option, at this point, is useful only for development of the new
behaviors. As such, the mount option is prefixed with __DEVEL__ and
generates a warning message when used.
Eventually, once we get to the point where all controller's behaviors
are consistent enough to implement unified hierarchy, the __DEVEL__
prefix will be dropped, and more importantly, unified-hierarchy will
enforce sane_behavior by default. Maybe we'll able to completely drop
the crazy stuff after a while, maybe not, but we at least have a
strategy to move on to saner behaviors.
This patch introduces the mount option and changes the following
behaviors in cgroup core.
* Mount options "noprefix" and "clone_children" are disallowed. Also,
cgroupfs file cgroup.clone_children is not created.
* When mounting an existing superblock, mount options should match.
This is currently pretty crazy. If one mounts a cgroup, creates a
subdirectory, unmounts it and then mount it again with different
option, it looks like the new options are applied but they aren't.
* Remount is disallowed.
The behaviors changes are documented in the comment above
CGRP_ROOT_SANE_BEHAVIOR enum and will be expanded as different
controllers are converted and planned improvements progress.

While controllers shouldn't be accessing cgroupfs_root directly, it
being hidden inside kern/cgroup.c makes somethings pretty silly. This
makes routing hierarchy-wide settings which need to be visible to
controllers cumbersome.
We're gonna add another hierarchy-wide setting which needs to be
accessed from controllers. Move cgroupfs_root and its flags to the

requests already waiting in the xprt->backlog queue. The reason for
doing this is to fix livelock issues that can occur when an existing

Unlike the kretprobes we can't trust userspace, thus must have
protection from user space attacks. User-space have "unlimited"
stack, and this patch limits the return probes nestedness as a
simple remedy for it.
Note that this implementation leaks return_instance on siglongjmp
until exit()/exec().
The intention is to have KISS and bare minimum solution for the
initial implementation in order to not complicate the uretprobes
code.
In the future we may come up with more sophisticated solution that
remove this depth limitation. It is not easy task and lays beyond

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56461
The symptom is a crash and messages like this:
chrome: Corrupted page table at address 34a03000
*pdpt = 0000000000000000 *pde = 0000000000000000
Bad pagetable: 000f [#1] PREEMPT SMP
Ingo guesses this got introduced by commit 611ae8e3f5 ("x86/tlb:
enable tlb flush range support for x86") since that code started to free
unused pagetables.
On x86-32 PAE kernels, that new code has the potential to free an entire
PMD page and will clear one of the four page-directory-pointer-table
(aka pgd_t entries).
The hardware aggressively "caches" these top-level entries and invlpg
does not actually affect the CPU's copy. If we clear one we *HAVE* to
do a full TLB flush, otherwise we might continue using a freed pmd page.
(note, we do this properly on the population side in pud_populate()).
This patch tracks whenever we clear one of these entries in the 'struct
mmu_gather', and ensures that we follow up with a full tlb flush.
BTW, I disassembled and checked that:
if (tlb->fullmm == 0)
and
if (!tlb->fullmm && !tlb->need_flush_all)
generate essentially the same code, so there should be zero impact there
to the !PAE case.

Previously the acpiphp driver registered itself as an ACPI PCI subdriver,
so its callbacks were invoked when creating/destroying PCI root
buses to manage ACPI-based PCI hotplug slots. But it doesn't handle
P2P bridge hotplug events, so it will cause strange behaviour if there
are hotplug slots associated with a hot-removed P2P bridge.
This patch fixes this issue by:
1) Directly hooking into PCI core to update hotplug slot devices when
creating/destroying PCI buses through:
pci_{add|remove}_bus() -> acpi_pci_{add|remove}_bus()
2) Getting rid of unused ACPI PCI subdriver-related code
It also cleans up unused code in the acpiphp driver.

Currently the pci_slot driver doesn't update PCI slot devices when PCI
device hotplug event happens, which may cause memory leak and returning
stale information to user.
Now the pci_slot driver has been changed as built-in driver, so invoke
PCI slot enumeration and destroy routines directly from the PCI core.
And remove ACPI PCI sub-driver related code because it isn't needed
any more.

On ACPI-based platforms, the pci_slot driver creates PCI slot devices
according to information from ACPI tables by registering an ACPI PCI
subdriver. The ACPI PCI subdriver will only be called when creating/
destroying PCI root buses, and it won't be called when hot-plugging
P2P bridges. It may cause stale PCI slot devices after hot-removing
a P2P bridge if that bridge has associated PCI slots. And the acpiphp
driver has the same issue too.
This patch introduces two hook points into the PCI core, which will
be invoked when creating/destroying PCI buses for PCI host and P2P
bridges. They could be used to setup/destroy platform dependent stuff
in a unified way, both at boot time and for PCI hotplug operations.

Currently set_ftrace_pid and set_graph_function files use seq_lseek
for their fops. However seq_open() is called only for FMODE_READ in
the fops->open() so that if an user tries to seek one of those file
when she open it for writing, it sees NULL seq_file and then panic.
It can be easily reproduced with following command:
$ cd /sys/kernel/debug/tracing
$ echo 1234 | sudo tee -a set_ftrace_pid
In this example, GNU coreutils' tee opens the file with fopen(, "a")
and then the fopen() internally calls lseek().

The smpboot threads rely on the park/unpark mechanism which binds per
cpu threads on a particular core. Though the functionality is racy:
CPU0 CPU1 CPU2
unpark(T) wake_up_process(T)
clear(SHOULD_PARK) T runs
leave parkme() due to !SHOULD_PARK
bind_to(CPU2) BUG_ON(wrong CPU)
We cannot let the tasks move themself to the target CPU as one of
those tasks is actually the migration thread itself, which requires
that it starts running on the target cpu right away.
The solution to this problem is to prevent wakeups in park mode which
are not from unpark(). That way we can guarantee that the association
of the task to the target cpu is working correctly.
Add a new task state (TASK_PARKED) which prevents other wakeups and
use this state explicitly for the unpark wakeup.
Peter noticed: Also, since the task state is visible to userspace and
all the parked tasks are still in the PID space, its a good hint in ps
and friends that these tasks aren't really there for the moment.
The migration thread has another related issue.
CPU0 CPU1
Bring up CPU2
create_thread(T)
park(T)
wait_for_completion()
parkme()
complete()
sched_set_stop_task()
schedule(TASK_PARKED)
The sched_set_stop_task() call is issued while the task is on the
runqueue of CPU1 and that confuses the hell out of the stop_task class
on that cpu. So we need the same synchronizaion before
sched_set_stop_task().

Notifiers may return NOTIFY_(OK|DONE|STOP|BAD). The CCF uses an
inconsistent mix of checking against NOTIFY_STOP or NOTIFY_BAD.
This inconsistency leaves errors undetected in some cases:
clk_set_parent() calls __clk_speculate_rates(), which stops when it
hits a NOTIFIER_BAD (STOP is ignored), and passes this value back to the
caller.
clk_set_parent() compares this return value against NOTIFY_STOP only,
ignoring NOTIFY_BAD returns.
Use NOTIFY_STOP_MASK to detect a negative notifier return value and
document all four return value options.

A couple controllers want to determine whether two cgroups are in
ancestor/descendant relationship. As it's more likely that the
descendant is the primary subject of interest and there are other
operations focusing on the descendants, let's ask is_descendent rather
than is_ancestor.
Implementation is trivial as the previous patch guarantees that all
ancestors of a cgroup stay accessible as long as the cgroup is
accessible.

The __weak annotation on the pcibios_get_phb_of_node() declaration
causes *every* definition to be marked "weak." The linker then
selects one based on link order, which may be the wrong one.
Gabor found that on MIPS, the linker selected the generic implementation
from drivers/pci even though arch/mips supplied a definition without the
__weak annotation:
$ mipsel-openwrt-linux-readelf -s arch/mips/pci/built-in.o \
drivers/pci/built-in.o vmlinux.o | grep pcibios_get_phb_of_node
86: 0000046c 12 FUNC WEAK DEFAULT 2 pcibios_get_phb_of_node
1430: 00012e2c 104 FUNC WEAK DEFAULT 2 pcibios_get_phb_of_node
31898: 0017e4ec 104 FUNC WEAK DEFAULT 2 pcibios_get_phb_of_node
This removes the __weak annotation from the pcibios_get_phb_of_node()
declaration so arch-specific non-weak implementations work reliably.

In UP and non-preempt respectively, the spinlocks and preemption
disable/enable points are stubbed out entirely, because there is no
regular code that can ever hit the kind of concurrency they are meant to
protect against.
However, while there is no regular code that can cause scheduling, we
_do_ end up having some exceptional (literally!) code that can do so,
and that we need to make sure does not ever get moved into the critical
region by the compiler.
In particular, get_user() and put_user() is generally implemented as
inline asm statements (even if the inline asm may then make a call
instruction to call out-of-line), and can obviously cause a page fault
and IO as a result. If that inline asm has been scheduled into the
middle of a preemption-safe (or spinlock-protected) code region, we
obviously lose.
Now, admittedly this is *very* unlikely to actually ever happen, and
we've not seen examples of actual bugs related to this. But partly
exactly because it's so hard to trigger and the resulting bug is so
subtle, we should be extra careful to get this right.
So make sure that even when preemption is disabled, and we don't have to
generate any actual *code* to explicitly tell the system that we are in
a preemption-disabled region, we need to at least tell the compiler not
to move things around the critical region.
This patch grew out of the same discussion that caused commits
79e5f05edc ("ARC: Add implicit compiler barrier to raw_local_irq*
functions") and 3e2e0d2c22 ("tile: comment assumption about
__insn_mtspr for <asm/irqflags.h>") to come about.
Note for stable: use discretion when/if applying this. As mentioned,
this bug may never have actually bitten anybody, and gcc may never have
done the required code motion for it to possibly ever trigger in
practice.

For drivers to be able to safely call the enable and disable hooks, the

The function tracing control loop used by perf spits out a warning
if the called function is not a control function. This is because
the control function references a per cpu allocated data structure
on struct ftrace_ops that is not allocated for other types of

commit 0a016409e4 "ftrace: Optimize the function tracer list loop"
Had an optimization done to all function tracing loops to optimize
for a single registered ops. Unfortunately, this allows for a slight
race when tracing starts or ends, where the stub function might be
called after the current registered ops is removed. In this case we
get the following dump:

Currently, __kprobes is defined in linux/kprobes.h which
is too big to be included in small or basic headers
that want to make use of this simple attribute.
So move __kprobes definition into linux/compiler.h
in which other compiler attributes are defined.

Some drivers want to tell userspace what uid and gid should be used for
their device nodes, so allow that information to percolate through the
driver core to userspace in order to make this happen. This means that
some systems (i.e. Android and friends) will not need to even run a
udev-like daemon for their device node manager and can just rely in
devtmpfs fully, reducing their footprint even more.

config looks like a hack that was added to tuner-core to allow some
configuration of TDA8290 tuner (it's not used by any other driver).
But with the new configuration options of tda8290 driver (no_i2c_gate
and std_map), it's no longer sufficient.
Change config to be void * instead, which allows passing tuner-dependent
config struct to drivers.
Also update saa7134 driver to reflect this change (no other driver uses this).

"enum dmx_ts_pes" and "typedef enum dmx_pes_type_t" are just the
same enum declared twice, since Kernel (2.6.12). There's no reason
to duplicate it there, and sparse complains about that:
drivers/media/dvb-core/dmxdev.c:600:55: warning: mixing different enum types
So, remove the internal define, keeping just the external one.
Internally, use only "enum dmx_ts_pes", as it is too late to drop
dmx_pes_type_t from the userspace API.

KVM: Allow cross page reads and writes from cached translations.
We don't want controllers to assume that the information is officially
available and do funky things with it.
The only user is task_subsys_state_check() which uses it to verify RCU
access context. We can move cgroup_lock_is_held() inside
CONFIG_PROVE_RCU but that doesn't add meaningful protection compared
to conditionally exposing cgroup_mutex.
Remove cgroup_lock_is_held(), export cgroup_mutex iff CONFIG_PROVE_RCU
and use lockdep_is_held() directly on the mutex in
task_subsys_state_check().
While at it, add parentheses around macro arguments in

Now that all external cgroup_lock() users are gone, we can finally
unexport the locking interface and prevent future abuse of
cgroup_mutex.
Make cgroup_[un]lock() and cgroup_lock_live_group() static. Also,
cgroup_attach_task() doesn't have any user left and can't be used

When a cpuset becomes empty (no CPU or memory), its tasks are
transferred with the nearest ancestor with execution resources. This
is implemented using cgroup_scan_tasks() with a callback which grabs
cgroup_mutex and invokes cgroup_attach_task() on each task.
Both cgroup_mutex and cgroup_attach_task() are scheduled to be
unexported. Implement cgroup_transfer_tasks() in cgroup proper which
is essentially the same as move_member_tasks_to_cpuset() except that
it takes cgroups instead of cpusets and @to comes before @from like
normal functions with those arguments, and replace
move_member_tasks_to_cpuset() with it.

Commit 130549fe ("netfilter: reset nf_trace in nf_reset") added code
to reset nf_trace in nf_reset(). This is wrong and unnecessary.
nf_reset() is used in the following cases:
- when passing packets up the the socket layer, at which point we want to
release all netfilter references that might keep modules pinned while
the packet is queued. nf_trace doesn't matter anymore at this point.
- when encapsulating or decapsulating IPsec packets. We want to continue
tracing these packets after IPsec processing.
- when passing packets through virtual network devices. Only devices on
that encapsulate in IPv4/v6 matter since otherwise nf_trace is not
used anymore. Its not entirely clear whether those packets should
be traced after that, however we've always done that.
- when passing packets through virtual network devices that make the
packet cross network namespace boundaries. This is the only cases
where we clearly want to reset nf_trace and is also what the
original patch intended to fix.
Add a new function nf_reset_trace() and use it in dev_forward_skb() to
fix this properly.

A few drivers use dev_uc_sync/unsync to synchronize the
address lists from master down to slave/lower devices. In
some cases (bond/team) a single address list is synched down
to multiple devices. At the time of unsync, we have a leak
in these lower devices, because "synced" is treated as a
boolean and the address will not be unsynced for anything after
the first device/call.
Treat "synced" as a count (same as refcount) and allow all
unsync calls to work.

The FIMC-LITE output DMA allows to configure different YUV order
than the order at the camera input interface. Thus there is some
limited colorspace conversion possible. This patch makes the
color format variable be per FIMC-LITE input/output, rather than
a global per device. This also fixes incorrect behavior where
color format at the FIMC-LITE.N subdev's source pad is modified
by VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl on the related video node.
YUV order definitions are corrected so that we use notation:
| byte3 | byte2 | byte1 | byte0

Some architectures like powerpc have multiple variants of the trap
instruction. Introduce an additional helper is_trap_insn() for run-time
handling of non-uprobe traps on such architectures.
While there, change is_swbp_at_addr() to is_trap_at_addr() for reading
clarity.
With this change, the uprobe registration path will supercede any trap
instruction inserted at the requested location, while taking care of
delivering the SIGTRAP for cases where the trap notification came in
for an address without a uprobe. See [1] for a more detailed explanation.

The function returns type of ATAPI drives so it should return integer value.
The commit 4dce8ba94c (libata: Use 'bool' return value for ata_id_XXX) since
v2.6.39 changed the type of return value from int to bool, the change would
cause all of the ATAPI class drives to be treated as TYPE_TAPE and the
max_sectors of the drives to be set to 65535 because of the commit
f8d8e5799b7(libata: increase 128 KB / cmd limit for ATAPI tape drives), for the
function would return true for all ATAPI class drives and the TYPE_TAPE is
defined as 0x01.

Dividers which have CLK_DIVIDER_ONE_BASED set have a redundant state,
being a divider value of zero. Some hardware implementations allow a
zero divider which simply doesn't alter the frequency. I.e. it acts like
a divide by one or bypassing the divider.
This flag is used to handle such HW in the clk-divider model.

- wired up strings with usb_gstrings_attach()
- add UDC attribe. Write "udc-name" will bind the gadget. Write an empty

will unbind the UDC from the gadget. The name of available UDCs can be
obtained from /sys/class/udc/

- rebased ontop reworked functions.c which has usb_function_instance

- moved functions from the root folde down to the gadget as suggested

- configs have now their own configs folder as suggested by Michał.
The folder is still name.bConfigurationValue where name becomes the

- added configfs support to the ACM function. The port_num attribute is
exported by f_acm. An argument has been added to the USB alloc
function to distinguish between "old" (use facm_configure() to
configure and configfs interface (expose a config_node).
The port_num is currently a dumb counter. It will
require some function re-work to make it work.
scheduled for v5:
- sym linking function into config.
v2…v3
- replaced one ifndef by ifdef as suggested by Micahał
- strstr()/strchr() function_make as suggested by Micahł
- replace [iSerialNumber|iProduct|iManufacturer] with
[sSerialNumber|sProduct|sManufacturer] as suggested by Alan
- added creation of config descriptors
v1…v2
- moved gadgets from configfs' root directory into /udcs/ within our
"usb_gadget" folder. Requested by Andrzej & Michał
- use a dot as a delimiter between function's name and its instance's name
as suggested by Michał
- renamed all config_item_type, configfs_group_operations, make_group,
drop_item as suggested by suggested by Andrzej to remain consisten
within this file and within other configfs users
- Since configfs.c and functions.c are now part of the udc-core module,
the module itself is now called udc. Also added a tiny ifdef around
init code becuase udc-core is subsys init and this is too early for
configfs in the built-in case. In the module case, we can only have
one init function.

Merge tag 'v3.9-rc5' into wq/for-3.10
Writeback conversion to workqueue will be based on top of wq/for-3.10
branch to take advantage of custom attrs and NUMA support for unbound
workqueues. Mainline currently contains two commits which result in
non-trivial merge conflicts with wq/for-3.10 and because
block/for-3.10/core is based on v3.9-rc3 which contains one of the
conflicting commits, we need a pre-merge-window merge anyway. Let's
pull v3.9-rc5 into wq/for-3.10 so that the block tree doesn't suffer
from workqueue merge conflicts.
The two conflicts and their resolutions:
* e68035fb65 ("workqueue: convert to idr_alloc()") in mainline changes
worker_pool_assign_id() to use idr_alloc() instead of the old idr
interface. worker_pool_assign_id() goes through multiple locking
changes in wq/for-3.10 causing the following conflict.
static int worker_pool_assign_id(struct worker_pool *pool)
{
int ret;
<<<<<<< HEAD
lockdep_assert_held(&wq_pool_mutex);
do {
if (!idr_pre_get(&worker_pool_idr, GFP_KERNEL))
return -ENOMEM;
ret = idr_get_new(&worker_pool_idr, pool, &pool->id);
} while (ret == -EAGAIN);
=======
mutex_lock(&worker_pool_idr_mutex);
ret = idr_alloc(&worker_pool_idr, pool, 0, 0, GFP_KERNEL);
if (ret >= 0)
pool->id = ret;
mutex_unlock(&worker_pool_idr_mutex);
>>>>>>> c67bf5361e
return ret < 0 ? ret : 0;
}
We want locking from the former and idr_alloc() usage from the
latter, which can be combined to the following.
static int worker_pool_assign_id(struct worker_pool *pool)
{
int ret;
lockdep_assert_held(&wq_pool_mutex);
ret = idr_alloc(&worker_pool_idr, pool, 0, 0, GFP_KERNEL);
if (ret >= 0) {
pool->id = ret;
return 0;
}
return ret;
}
* eb2834285c ("workqueue: fix possible pool stall bug in
wq_unbind_fn()") updated wq_unbind_fn() such that it has single
larger for_each_std_worker_pool() loop instead of two separate loops
with a schedule() call inbetween. wq/for-3.10 renamed
pool->assoc_mutex to pool->manager_mutex causing the following
conflict (earlier function body and comments omitted for brevity).
static void wq_unbind_fn(struct work_struct *work)
{
...
spin_unlock_irq(&pool->lock);
<<<<<<< HEAD
mutex_unlock(&pool->manager_mutex);
}
=======
mutex_unlock(&pool->assoc_mutex);
>>>>>>> c67bf5361e
schedule();
<<<<<<< HEAD
for_each_cpu_worker_pool(pool, cpu)
=======
>>>>>>> c67bf5361e
atomic_set(&pool->nr_running, 0);
spin_lock_irq(&pool->lock);
wake_up_worker(pool);
spin_unlock_irq(&pool->lock);
}
}
The resolution is mostly trivial. We want the control flow of the
latter with the rename of the former.
static void wq_unbind_fn(struct work_struct *work)
{
...
spin_unlock_irq(&pool->lock);
mutex_unlock(&pool->manager_mutex);
schedule();
atomic_set(&pool->nr_running, 0);
spin_lock_irq(&pool->lock);
wake_up_worker(pool);
spin_unlock_irq(&pool->lock);
}
}

I had the following problem reported a while back. If you mount the
same filesystem twice using NFSv4 with different contexts, then the
second context= option is ignored. For instance:
# mount server:/export /mnt/test1
# mount server:/export /mnt/test2 -o context=system_u:object_r:tmp_t:s0
# ls -dZ /mnt/test1
drwxrwxrwt. root root system_u:object_r:nfs_t:s0 /mnt/test1
# ls -dZ /mnt/test2
drwxrwxrwt. root root system_u:object_r:nfs_t:s0 /mnt/test2
When we call into SELinux to set the context of a "cloned" superblock,
it will currently just bail out when it notices that we're reusing an
existing superblock. Since the existing superblock is already set up and
presumably in use, we can't go overwriting its context with the one from
the "original" sb. Because of this, the second context= option in this
case cannot take effect.
This patch fixes this by turning security_sb_clone_mnt_opts into an int
return operation. When it finds that the "new" superblock that it has
been handed is already set up, it checks to see whether the contexts on
the old superblock match it. If it does, then it will just return
success, otherwise it'll return -EBUSY and emit a printk to tell the
admin why the second mount failed.
Note that this patch may cause casualties. The NFSv4 code relies on
being able to walk down to an export from the pseudoroot. If you mount
filesystems that are nested within one another with different contexts,
then this patch will make those mounts fail in new and "exciting" ways.
For instance, suppose that /export is a separate filesystem on the
server:
# mount server:/ /mnt/test1
# mount salusa:/export /mnt/test2 -o context=system_u:object_r:tmp_t:s0
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
...with the printk in the ring buffer. Because we *might* eventually
walk down to /mnt/test1/export, the mount is denied due to this patch.
The second mount needs the pseudoroot superblock, but that's already
present with the wrong context.
OTOH, if we mount these in the reverse order, then both mounts work,
because the pseudoroot superblock created when mounting /export is
discarded once that mount is done. If we then however try to walk into
that directory, the automount fails for the similar reasons:
# cd /mnt/test1/scratch/
-bash: cd: /mnt/test1/scratch: Device or resource busy
The story I've gotten from the SELinux folks that I've talked to is that
this is desirable behavior. In SELinux-land, mounting the same data
under different contexts is wrong -- there can be only one.

Unbound workqueues are now NUMA aware. Let's add some control knobs
and update sysfs interface accordingly.
* Add kernel param workqueue.numa_disable which disables NUMA affinity
globally.
* Replace sysfs file "pool_id" with "pool_ids" which contain
node:pool_id pairs. This change is userland-visible but "pool_id"
hasn't seen a release yet, so this is okay.
* Add a new sysf files "numa" which can toggle NUMA affinity on
individual workqueues. This is implemented as attrs->no_numa whichn
is special in that it isn't part of a pool's attributes. It only
affects how apply_workqueue_attrs() picks which pools to use.
After "pool_ids" change, first_pwq() doesn't have any user left.
Removed.

For some events it's useful to weight sample with a hardware
provided number. This expresses how expensive the action the
sample represent was. This allows the profiler to scale
the samples to be more informative to the programmer.
There is already the period which is used similarly, but it
means something different, so I chose to not overload it.
Instead a new sample type for WEIGHT is added.
Can be used for multiple things. Initially it is used for TSX
abort costs and profiling by memory latencies (so to make
expensive load appear higher up in the histograms). The concept
is quite generic and can be extended to many other kinds of
events or architectures, as long as the hardware provides
suitable auxillary values. In principle it could be also used
for software tracepoints.
This adds the generic glue. A new optional sample format for a
64-bit weight value.

This patch adds a flags field to each event constraint.
It can be used to store event specific features which can
then later be used by scheduling code or low-level x86 code.
The flags are propagated into event->hw.flags during the
get_event_constraint() call. They are cleared during the
put_event_constraint() call.
This mechanism is going to be used by the PEBS-LL patches.
It avoids defining yet another table to hold event specific
information.

Currently, there can't be multiple instances of single governor_type.
If we have a multi-package system, where we have multiple instances
of struct policy (per package), we can't have multiple instances of
same governor. i.e. We can't have multiple instances of ondemand
governor for multiple packages.
Governors directory in sysfs is created at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/
governor-name/. Which again reflects that there can be only one
instance of a governor_type in the system.
This is a bottleneck for multicluster system, where we want different
packages to use same governor type, but with different tunables.
This patch uses the infrastructure provided by earlier patch and
implements init/exit routines for ondemand and conservative

The commit 89878baa73f0f1c679355006bd8632e5d78f96c2 introduced
the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIMER_STOP flag where we specify a specific idle
state stops the local timer.
Now use this flag to check at init time if one state will need
the broadcast timer and, in this case, setup the broadcast timer
framework. That prevents multiple code duplication in the drivers.

The next patch will setup automatically the broadcast timer for
the different cpuidle driver when one idle state stops its timer.
This will be part of the generic code.
But some ARM boards, like s3c64xx, uses cpuidle but without the
CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS_BUILD set. Hence the cpuidle framework
will be compiled with the code supposed to be generic, that is
with clockevents_notify and the different enum.
Also the function clockevents_notify is a noop macro, this is fine
except the usual code is:
int cpu = smp_processor_id();
clockevents_notify(CLOCK_EVT_NOTIFY_BROADCAST_ON, &cpu);
and that raises a warning for the variable cpu which is not used.
Move the clock_event_nofitiers enum definition out of the
CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS_BUILD section to prevent a compilation
error when these are used in the code.
Change the clockevents_notify macro to a static inline noop function
to prevent a compilation warning.

When a cpu enters a deep idle state, the local timers are stopped and
the time framework falls back to the timer device used as a broadcast
timer.
The different cpuidle drivers are calling clockevents_notify ENTER/EXIT
when the idle state stops the local timer.
Add a new flag CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIMER_STOP which can be set by the cpuidle
drivers. If the flag is set, the cpuidle core code takes care of the
notification on behalf of the driver to avoid pointless code duplication.

The sensor (I2C and/or SPI client) devices are instantiated by their
corresponding control bus drivers. Since the I2C client's master clock
is often provided by a video bus receiver (host interface) or other
than I2C/SPI controller device, the drivers of those client devices
are not accessing hardware in their driver's probe() callback. Instead,
after enabling clock, the host driver calls back into a sub-device
when it wants to activate them. This pattern is used by some in-tree
drivers and this patch also uses it for DT case. This patch is intended
as a first step for adding device tree support to the S5P/Exynos SoC
camera drivers. The second one is adding support for asynchronous
sub-devices registration and clock control from sub-device driver
level. The bindings shall not change when asynchronous probing support

The NFSv4 SECINFO operation returns a list of security flavors that
the server supports for a particular share. An NFSv4 client is
supposed to pick a pseudoflavor it supports that corresponds to one
of the flavors returned by the server.
GSS flavors in this list have a GSS tuple that identify a specific
GSS pseudoflavor.
Currently our client ignores the GSS tuple's "qop" value. A
matching pseudoflavor is chosen based only on the OID and service
value.
So far this omission has not had much effect on Linux. The NFSv4
protocol currently supports only one qop value: GSS_C_QOP_DEFAULT,
also known as zero.
However, if an NFSv4 server happens to return something other than
zero in the qop field, our client won't notice. This could cause
the client to behave in incorrect ways that could have security
implications.

A SECINFO reply may contain flavors whose kernel module is not
yet loaded by the client's kernel. A new RPC client API, called
rpcauth_get_pseudoflavor(), is introduced to do proper checking
for support of a security flavor.
When this API is invoked, the RPC client now tries to load the
module for each flavor first before performing the "is this
supported?" check. This means if a module is available on the
client, but has not been loaded yet, it will be loaded and
registered automatically when the SECINFO reply is processed.
The new API can take a full GSS tuple (OID, QoP, and service).
Previously only the OID and service were considered.
nfs_find_best_sec() is updated to verify all flavors requested in a
SECINFO reply, including AUTH_NULL and AUTH_UNIX. Previously these
two flavors were simply assumed to be supported without consulting
the RPC client.
Note that the replaced version of nfs_find_best_sec() can return
RPC_AUTH_MAXFLAVOR if the server returns a recognized OID but an
unsupported "service" value. nfs_find_best_sec() now returns
RPC_AUTH_UNIX in this case.

The NFSv4 SECINFO procedure returns a list of security flavors. Any
GSS flavor also has a GSS tuple containing an OID, a quality-of-
protection value, and a service value, which specifies a particular
GSS pseudoflavor.
For simplicity and efficiency, I'd like to return each GSS tuple
from the NFSv4 SECINFO XDR decoder and pass it straight into the RPC
client.
Define a data structure that is visible to both the NFS client and
the RPC client. Take structure and field names from the relevant
standards to avoid confusion.

In DMA support, The received data is not pushed to tty until the DMA buffer
is filled. But some megabyte rate chips such as BT expect fast response and
data should be pushed immediately. In order to fix this issue, We suggest
the use of the timer for polling DMA buffer.
In our test, no data loss occurred at high-baudrate as compared with interrupt-
driven (We tested with 3Mbps).
We changes:
- We add timer for polling. If we set poll_timer to 10, every 10ms,
timer handler checks the residue in the dma buffer and transfer data
to the tty. Also, last_residue is updated for the next polling.
- poll_timeout is used to prevent the timer's system cost.
If poll_timeout is set to 3000 and no data is received in 3 seconds,
we inactivate poll timer and driver falls back to interrupt-driven.
When data is received again in FIFO and UART irq is occurred, we switch
back to DMA mode and start polling.
- We use consistent DMA mappings to avoid from the frequent cache operation
of the timer function for default.
- pl011_dma_rx_chars is modified. the pending size is recalculated because
data can be taken by polling.
- the polling time is adjusted if dma rx poll is enabled but no rate is
specified. Ideal polling interval to push 1 character at every interval
is the reciprocal of 'baud rate / 10 line bits per character / 1000 ms
per sec'. But It is very aggressive to system. Experimentally,
'10000000 / baud' is suitable to receive dozens of characters. the poll rate
can be specified statically by dma_rx_poll_rate of the platform data as well.
Changes compared to v1:
- Use of consistent DMA mappings.
- Added dma_rx_poll_rate in platform data to specify the polling interval.
- Added dma_rx_poll_timeout in platform data to specify the polling timeout.
Changes compared to v2:
- Use of consistent DMA mappings for default.
- Added dma_rx_poll_enable in platform data to adjust the polling time
according to the baud rate.
- remove unnecessary lock from the polling function.

VM_POPULATE only has any effect when userspace plays racy games with

Also, the only effect of VM_POPULATE when userspace plays such games is
that it avoids populating new memory regions that get remapped into the

replacing it everywhere with CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME (except for one place

shrinkage and simplification.
There's very little point in keeping CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND because almost

Only allow unprivileged mounts of proc and sysfs if they are already
mounted when the user namespace is created.
proc and sysfs are interesting because they have content that is
per namespace, and so fresh mounts are needed when new namespaces
are created while at the same time proc and sysfs have content that
is shared between every instance.
Respect the policy of who may see the shared content of proc and sysfs
by only allowing new mounts if there was an existing mount at the time
the user namespace was created.
In practice there are only two interesting cases: proc and sysfs are
mounted at their usual places, proc and sysfs are not mounted at all
(some form of mount namespace jail).

Guarantee that the policy of which files may be access that is
established by setting the root directory will not be violated
by user namespaces by verifying that the root directory points
to the root of the mount namespace at the time of user namespace
creation.
Changing the root is a privileged operation, and as a matter of policy
it serves to limit unprivileged processes to files below the current
root directory.
For reasons of simplicity and comprehensibility the privilege to
change the root directory is gated solely on the CAP_SYS_CHROOT
capability in the user namespace. Therefore when creating a user
namespace we must ensure that the policy of which files may be access
can not be violated by changing the root directory.
Anyone who runs a processes in a chroot and would like to use user
namespace can setup the same view of filesystems with a mount
namespace instead. With this result that this is not a practical
limitation for using user namespaces.

As Linus pointed out, the graphics drivers are probably in the best

PCI defines PCI_DEVFN(), PCI_SLOT(), and PCI_FUNC() interfaces; however,
it doesn't have interfaces to return PCI bus and PCI device id. Drivers
(AMD IOMMU, and AER) implement module specific definitions for PCI_BUS()
and AMD_IOMMU driver also has a module specific interface to calculate PCI
device id from bus number and devfn.
Add PCI_BUS_NUM and PCI_DEVID interfaces to return PCI bus number and PCI
device id respectively to avoid the need for duplicate definitions in other
modules. AER driver code and AMD IOMMU driver define PCI_BUS. AMD IOMMU
driver defines an interface to calculate device id from bus number, and
devfn pair.
PCI_DEVFN(), PCI_SLOT(), and PCI_FUNC() interfaces are exported to
user-space via uapi/linux/pci.h. However, in the interest to keep the new
interfaces as kernel only and not export them to user-space unnecessarily,
added them to linux/pci.h instead.

Not all clocks are required to be decomposed into basic clock
types but at the same time want to use the functionality
provided by these basic clock types instead of duplicating.
For example, Tegra SoC has ~100 clocks which can be decomposed
into Mux -> Div -> Gate clock types making the clock count to
~300. Also, parent change operation can not be performed on gate
clock which forces to use mux clock in driver if want to change
the parent.
Instead aggregate the basic clock types functionality into one
clock and just use this clock for all operations. This clock
type re-uses the functionality of basic clock types and not
limited to basic clock types but any hardware-specific
implementation.

ASoC/extcon: arizona: Fix interaction between HPDET and headphone outputs
This patch series covers both ASoC and extcon subsystems and fixes an
interaction between the HPDET function and the headphone outputs - we
really shouldn't run HPDET while the headphone is active. The first
patch is a refactoring to make the extcon side easier.
Running HPDET while the headphone outputs are enabled can disrupt the
operation of HPDET. In order to avoid this HPDET needs to disable the
headphone outputs and ASoC needs to not enable them while HPDET is
running.
Do the ASoC side of this by storing the enable state in the core driver
structure and only writing to the device if a flag indicating that the
accessory detection side is in a state where it can have the headphone
output stage enabled.

RCU_FAST_NO_HZ take advantage of numbered callbacks, add
callback acceleration based on numbered callbacks.
Dyntick-idle CPUs need to be able to pre-announce their need for grace
periods. This can be done using something similar to the mechanism used
by no-CB CPUs to announce their need for grace periods. This commit
moves in this direction by renaming the no-CBs grace-period event tracing

Because RCU callbacks are now associated with the number of the grace
period that they must wait for, CPUs can now take advance callbacks
corresponding to grace periods that ended while a given CPU was in
dyntick-idle mode. This eliminates the need to try forcing the RCU
state machine while entering idle, thus reducing the CPU intensiveness
of RCU_FAST_NO_HZ, which should increase its energy efficiency.

Add generic TIOCMIWAIT implementation which correctly handles hangup,
USB-device disconnect, does not rely on the deprecated sleep_on
functions and hence does not suffer from the races currently affecting
several usb-serial drivers.
This makes it much easier to add TIOCMIWAIT support to subdrivers as the
tricky details related to hangup and disconnect (e.g. atomicity, that
the private port data may have been freed when woken up, and waking up
processes at disconnect) have been handled once and for all.
To add support to a subdriver, simply set the tiocmiwait-port-operation
field, update the port icount fields and wake up any process sleeping on
the tty-port modem-status-change wait queue on changes.
Note that the tty-port initialised flag can be used to detect
disconnected as the port will be hung up as part of disconnect (and
cannot be reactivated due to the disconnected flag). However, as the
tty-port implementation currently wakes up processes before calling port
shutdown, the tty-hupping flag must also be checked to detect hangup for
now.

Userspace applications need to know the maximum supported message
size.
The cdc-wdm driver translates between a character device stream
and a message based protocol. Each message is transported as a
usb control message with no further encapsulation or syncronization.
Each read or write on the character device should translate to
exactly one usb control message to ensure that message boundaries
are kept intact. That means that the userspace application must
know the maximum message size supported by the device and driver,
making this size a vital part of the cdc-wdm character device API.
CDC WDM and CDC MBIM functions export the maximum supported
message size through CDC functional descriptors. The cdc-wdm and
cdc_mbim drivers will parse these descriptors and use the value
chosen by the device. The only current way for a userspace
application to retrive the value is by duplicating the descriptor
parsing. This is an unnecessary complex task, and application
writers are likely to postpone it, using a fixed value and adding
a "todo" item.
QMI functions have no way to tell the host what message size they
support. The qmi_wwan driver use a fixed value based on protocol
recommendations and observed device behaviour. Userspace
applications must know and hard code the same value. This scheme
will break if we ever encounter a QMI device needing a device
specific message size quirk. We are currently unable to support
such a device because using a non default size would break the
implicit userspace API.
The message size is currently a hidden attribute of the cdc-wdm
userspace API. Retrieving it is unnecessarily complex, increasing
the possibility of drivers and applications using different limits.
The resulting errors are hard to debug, and can only be replicated
on identical hardware.
Exporting the maximum message size from the driver simplifies the
task for the userspace application, and creates a unified
information source independent of device and function class. It also
serves to document that the message size is part of the cdc-wdm
userspace API.
This proposed API extension has been presented for the authors of
userspace applications and libraries using the current API: libmbim,
libqmi, uqmi, oFono and ModemManager. The replies were:
Aleksander Morgado:
"We do really need max message size for MBIM; and as you say, it may be
good to have the max message size info also for QMI, so the new ioctl
seems a good addition. So +1 from my side, for what it's worth."
Dan Williams:
"Yeah, +1 here. I'd prefer the sysfs file, but the fact that that
doesn't work for fd passing pretty much kills it."
No negative replies are so far received.

As per JESD209-2E specification for LPDDR2,
http://www.jedec.org/standards-documents/results/jesd209-2E
Table 73, LPDDR2 memories come in two flavors - Standard and
Extended. The Standard types can operate from -25C to +85C
However, beyond that and upto +105C can only be supported by
Extended types.
Unfortunately, it seems there is no info in MR0(device info) or
MR[1,2](device feature) for run time detection of this capability
as far as seen on the spec. Hence, we provide a custom_config
flag to be populated by platforms which have these "extended"
type memories.
For the "Standard" memories, we need to consider MR4 notifications
of temperature triggers >85C as equivalent to thermal shutdown
events (equivalent to Spec specified thermal shutdown events for
"extended" parts).

4) Make iio_push_event save IRQ context - necessary if it is to be used

5) For iio use the device tree node name to provide the hwmon name attribute
if available.
Removal and moves out of staging
1) Drop the adt7410 driver from IIO now that there is a hmwon driver with
equivalent support. This device is very much targeted at hardware
monitoring so hwmon is a more appropriate host for the driver.
2) Move iio_hwmon driver to drivers/hwmon.
Cleanups
1) Minor cleanup in ST common library.
2) Large set of patches to break the info_mask element which previously used
odd and even bits to specify if a channel attribute was either shared across
similar channels or specific to only one. Now we have two bitmaps, one for
those parameters that are specific to this channel and one for those shared
by all channels with the same type as this one. This has no effect on the
userspace abi. It simplifies the core code and provides more space for new
channel parameters. It has been on the todo list for a long time!

Merge tag 'iio-for-3.10a' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jic23/iio into staging-next
Jonathan writes:
First set of IIO new drivers and cleanup for the 3.10 cycle.
New stuff
1) Add OF support for specifying mappings between iio devices and their
in kernel consumers.
2) Driver for AD7923 (extra functionality and support for ad7904, ad7914 and
ad7924 added later in series)
3) Driver for Exynos adc (dt suppor for phy added later in series).
4) Make iio_push_event save IRQ context - necessary if it is to be used
within an interrupt handler. Users of this functionality to follow.

Although the SSBI sub is currently only used on MSM SoCs, it is still
a bus in its own right. Remove this msm_ prefix from the driver and
it's symbols. Clients can now refer directly to ssbi_write() and
ssbi_read().

xhci driver divides the root hub into two logical hubs which work
respectively for usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 devices. They are independent
devices in the usb core. But in the ACPI table, it's one device node
and all usb2.0 and usb3.0 ports are under it. Binding usb port with
its acpi node needs the raw port number which is reflected in the xhci
extended capabilities table. This patch is to add find_raw_port_number
callback to struct hc_driver(), fill it with xhci_find_raw_port_number()
which will return raw port number and add a wrap usb_hcd_find_raw_port_number().
Otherwise, refactor xhci_find_real_port_number(). Using
xhci_find_raw_port_number() to get real index in the HW port status
registers instead of scanning through the xHCI roothub port array.
This can help to speed up.
All addresses in xhci->usb2_ports and xhci->usb3_ports array are
kown good ports and don't include following bad ports in the extended
capabilities talbe.
(1) root port that doesn't have an entry
(2) root port with unknown speed
(3) root port that is listed twice and with different speeds.
So xhci_find_raw_port_number() will only return port num of good ones
and never touch bad ports above.

The ssbi driver's read/write entry points are protected with wrappers
in the case when the driver isn't enabled. These wrappers don't make
any sense, since a client of the SSBI bus won't work without it. Make
these just regular functions, so that the SSBI driver can be built as
a module.

SSBI is the Qualcomm single-wire serial bus interface used to connect
the MSM devices to the PMIC and other devices.
Since SSBI only supports a single slave, the driver gets the name of the
slave device passed in from the board file through the master device's
platform data.
SSBI registers pretty early (postcore), so that the PMIC can come up
before the board init. This is useful if the board init requires the
use of gpios that are connected through the PMIC.
Based on a patch by Dima Zavin <dima@android.com> that can be found at:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/msm.git;a=commitdiff;h=eb060bac4
This patch adds PMIC Arbiter support for the MSM8660. The PMIC Arbiter
is a hardware wrapper around the SSBI 2.0 controller that is designed to
overcome concurrency issues and security limitations. A controller_type
field is added to the platform data to specify the type of the SSBI
controller (1.0, 2.0, or PMIC Arbiter).

Four patches for arm-soc this week:
- Kevin Hilman is no longer reachable under his previous email address.
He submitted the patch earlier, but nobody felt responsible to pick
it up.
- One Tegra fix for an incorect register address in device tree.
- IMX multiplatform support exposes a configuration option that
leads to unbootable kernels on all other machines and that needs
to depend on that platform.
- A nontrivial bug fix for the setup of the mxs video output.

Sometimes, we actually _want_ to do open-by-filehandle, for instance
when recovering opens after a network partition, or when called
from nfs4_file_open.
Enable that functionality using a new capability NFS_CAP_ATOMIC_OPEN_V1,
and which is only enabled for NFSv4.1 servers that support it.

Follow the practice described in section 8.2.2 of RFC5661: When sending a
read/write or setattr stateid, set the seqid field to zero in order to
signal that the NFS server should apply the most recent locking state.

If we replay a READ or WRITE call, we should not be changing the
stateid. Currently, we may end up doing so, because the stateid
is only selected at xdr encode time.
This patch ensures that we select the stateid after we get an NFSv4.1
session slot, and that we keep that same stateid across retries.

If the state recovery failed, we want to ensure that the application
doesn't try to use the same file descriptor for more reads or writes.
