RDMA netlink has a complicated infrastructure for dynamically
registering and de-registering netlink clients to the NETLINK_RDMA
group. The complicated portion of this code is not widely used because
2 of the 3 current clients are statically compiled together with
netlink.c. The infrastructure, therefore, is deemed overkill.
Refactor the code to eliminate the dynamically added clients. Now all
clients are pre-registered in a client array at compile time, and at run
time they merely check-in with the infrastructure to pass their callback
table for inclusion in the pre-sized client array.
This also allows for future cleanups and removal of unneeded code in the

Uverbs device should be cleaned up only when there is no
potential usage of.
As part of ib_uverbs_remove_one which might be triggered upon reset flow
the device reference count is decreased as expected and leave the final
cleanup to the FDs that were opened.
Current code increases reference count upon opening a new command FD and
decreases it upon closing the file. The event FD is opened internally
and rely on the command FD by taking on it a reference count.
In case that the command FD was closed and just later the event FD we
may ensure that the device resources as of srcu are still alive as they
are still in use.
Fixing the above by moving the reference count decreasing to the place
where the command FD is really freed instead of doing that when it was
just closed.

Currently while resolving IP address to MAC address single delayed work
is used for resolving multiple such resolve requests. This singled work
is essentially performs two tasks.
(a) any retry needed to resolve and
(b) it executes the callback function for all completed requests
While work is executing callbacks, any new work scheduled on for this
workqueue is lost because workqueue has completed looking at all pending
requests and now looking at callbacks, but work is still under
execution. Any further retry to look at pending requests in
process_req() after executing callbacks would lead to similar race
condition (may be reduce the probably further but doesn't eliminate it).
Retrying to enqueue work that from queue_req() context is not something
rest of the kernel modules have followed.
Therefore fix in this patch utilizes kernel facility to enqueue multiple
work items to a workqueue. This ensures that no such requests
gets lost in synchronization. Request list is still maintained so that
rdma_cancel_addr() can unlink the request and get the completion with
error sooner. Neighbour update event handling continues to be handled in
same way as before.
Additionally process_req() work entry cancels any pending work for a
request that gets completed while processing those requests.
Originally ib_addr was ST workqueue, but it became MT work queue with
patch of [1]. This patch again makes it similar to ST so that
neighbour update events handler work item doesn't race with
other work items.
In one such below trace, (though on 4.5 based kernel) it can be seen
that process_req() never executed the callback, which is likely for an
event that was schedule by queue_req() when previous callback was
getting executed by workqueue.

When an egress resource(SDMA descriptors, pio credits) is not available,
a sending thread will be put on the resource's wait queue. When the
resource becomes available again, up to a fixed number of sending threads
can be awakened sequentially and removed from the wait queue, depending
on the number of waiting threads and the number of free resources. Since
each awakened sending thread will send as many packets as possible, it
is highly likely that the first sending thread will consume all the
egress resources. Subsequently, it will be put back to the end of the wait
queue. Depending on the timing when the later sending threads wake up,
they may not be able to send any packet and be again put back to the end
of the wait queue sequentially, right behind the first sending thread.
This starvation cycle continues until some sending threads exceed their
retry limit and consequently fail.
This patch fixes the issue by two simple approaches:
(1) Any starved sending thread will be put to the head of the wait queue
while a served sending thread will be put to the tail;
(2) The most starved sending thread will be served first.

The ioremap_wc() clearly is not returning a write combining mapping due
to an overlap where the RcvArray is mapped in a uncached mapping prior
to creating the proposed write combining mapping.
The patch replaces the single base register for uncached CSRs that
used to overlap the RcvArray with two mappings. One, kregbase1, from the
bar0 up to the RcvArray and another, kregbase2, from the end of the
RcvArray to the pio send buffer space. A new dd field, base2_start,
is used to convert the zero-based offset in the CSR routines to the
correct kregbase1/kregbase2 mapping. A single direct write of the
RcvArray CSRs is replaced with hfi1_put_tid() to insure correct access
using the new disjoint mapping.
Additionally, the kregend field is deleted since it is only ever written.
patdebug now shows the RcvArray as write combining:

Support create/modify/destroy WQ related verbs.
The base IB object to enable RSS functionality is a WQ (i.e. ib_wq).
This patch implements the related WQ verbs as of create, modify and
destroy.
In downstream patches the WQ will be used as part of an indirection
table (i.e. ib_rwq_ind_table) to enable RSS QP creation.
Notes:
ConnectX-3 hardware requires consecutive WQNs list as receive descriptor
queues for the RSS QP. Hence, the driver manages consecutive ranges lists
per context which the user must respect.
Destroying the WQ does not return its WQN back to its range for
reusing. However, destroying all WQs from the same range releases the
range and in turn releases its WQNs for reusing.
Since the WQ object is not a natural object in the hardware, the driver
implements the WQ by the hardware QP.
As such, the WQ inherits its port from its RSS QP parent upon its
RST->INIT transition and by that time its state is applied to the
hardware.

when link goes down on the switch while admin state is up or to redundant

To fix that, probe the port state on NETDEV events and compare to last

Currently, unicast/multicast loopback raw ethernet
(non-RDMA) packets are sent back to the vport.
A unicast loopback packet is the packet with destination
MAC address the same as the source MAC address.
For multicast, the destination MAC address is in the
vport's multicast filter list.
Moreover, the local loopback is not needed if
there is one or none user space context.
After this patch, the raw ethernet unicast and multicast
local loopback are disabled by default. When there is more
than one user space context, the local loopback is enabled.
Note that when local loopback is disabled, raw ethernet
packets are not looped back to the vport and are forwarded
to the next routing level (eswitch, or multihost switch,
or out to the wire depending on the configuration).

This patch allows driver to post send and receive
requests on QPs which are in error state.
Instead of flushing the QP in the context of polling
error CQEs, the QPs will be added to a flush list
maintained per CQ. QP state is moved to error.
QP is added to flush list if the user moves it
to error state using modify_qp also. After polling the HW
CQ in poll_cq routine, this flush list is traversed
and driver completes work requests on each QP in the flush
list, till the budget expires. The QP is moved out of
flush list during QP destroy or during modify_QP to RESET.
When ULPs post Work Requests while QP is in error state,
driver will store the ULP data and then increment the
QP producer s/w index, without ringing doorbell. It then
schedules a worker to invoke the CQ handler since the
interrupts wont be generated from the HW for this request.

A potential race between light_event and interface restart
may attach multicast group to an already attached QP.
Scenario:
light_event flow goes through ipoib_mcast_dev_flush function,
if a context switch occurs before calling ipoib_mcast_remove_list,
then we may face a situation where the broadcast of the priv is null
and the corresponding QP is not detached yet.
If an "interface restart" runs during the previous context switch,
the following scenario occurs:
When the device goes up, ipoib_ib_dev_up function will be called,
it will send a new registration request to the broadcast group and then
attach the group to the QP that was not detached before.

CM REQs cannot be successfully retried, because a new pv_cm_id is
created for each request, without checking if one already exists.
By checking if an id exists before creating one, the bug is fixed.
This bug can be provoked by running an RDMA CM user-land application,
but inserting a five seconds delay before the rdma_accept() call on
the passive side. This delay is larger than the default CMA timeout,
and triggers a retry from the active side. The retried REQ will use
another pv_cm_id (the cm_id on the wire). This confuses the CM
protocol and two REJs are sent from the passive side.

There's a couple of bugs in the support of max_rd_atomic and
max_dest_rd_atomic. In the modify_qp, if the requested max_rd_atomic,
which is the ORRQ size, is greater than what the chip can support,
then we have to cap the request to chip max as we can't have the HW
overflow the ORRQ. Capping the max_rd_atomic support internally is okay
to do as the remaining read/atomic WRs will still be sitting in the SQ.
However, for the max_dest_rd_atomic, the driver has to error out as
this dictates the IRRQ size and we can't control what the remote

This fix is added only to avoid system crash in some a
specific scenario. When bnxt_re driver is loaded and if
user tries to change interface mac address, delete GID
fails because QP1 is still associated with existing MAC
(default GID). If the above command fails GID tables are
not modified in the h/w or driver, but the GID context memory
is freed. Now, if the user changes the mac back to the original
value, another add_gid comes to the driver where the driver
reports that the GID is already present in its table
and tries to access the context which was already freed.
So, in this case, in order to avoid NULL pointer de-reference,
this patch removes the context memory free if delete_gid fails
and the same context memory is re-used in new add_gid.
Memory cleanup will be taken care during driver unload, while
deleting the GID table.

This happens when the QP is in IB_QPS_RESET state and the stack

According to the IB spec, Table 91 - "QP State Transition Properties"
it looks like the transition from reset to error is valid:

Currently the RoCE GID management uses the ib_wq to do add and delete new GIDs
according to the netdev events.
The ib_wq isn't an ordered workqueue and thus two work elements can be executed
concurrently which will result in unexpected behavior and inconsistency of the
GIDs cache content.
Example:
ifconfig eth1 11.11.11.11/16 up
This command will invoke the following netdev events in the following order:
1. NETDEV_UP
2. NETDEV_DOWN
3. NETDEV_UP
If (2) and (3) will be executed concurrently or in reverse order, instead of
having a new GID with 11.11.11.11 IP, we will end up without any new GIDs.

Commit 21caf2fc19 ("mm: teach mm by current context info to not do I/O
during memory allocation") added the memalloc_noio_(save|restore) functions
to enable people to modify the MM behavior by disabling I/O during memory
allocation. This was further extended in Fixes: 934f3072c1 ("mm: clear
__GFP_FS when PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO is set"). memalloc_noio_* functions prevent
allocation paths recursing back into the filesystem without explicitly
changing the flags for every allocation site.
However the IPoIB hasn't been keeping up with the changes and missed
completely these memalloc_noio_* calls. This led to update of
allocation site with special QP creation flag, see commit 09b93088d7
("IB: Add a QP creation flag to use GFP_NOIO allocations"), while this
flag is supported by small number of drivers in IB stack.
Let's change it by updating to memalloc_noio_* calls and allow
for every driver underneath enjoy NOIO allocations.

When resolving an IP address that is on the host of the caller the
result from querying the routing table is the loopback device. This is
not a valid response, because it doesn't represent the RDMA device and
the port.
Therefore, callers need to check the resolved device and if it is a
loopback device find an alternative way to resolve it. To avoid this we
make sure that the response from rdma_resolve_ip() will not be the
loopback device.

While looking into Coverity ID 1351047 I ran into the following
piece of code at
drivers/infiniband/core/verbs.c:496:
ret = rdma_addr_find_l2_eth_by_grh(&dgid, &sgid,
ah_attr->dmac,
wc->wc_flags & IB_WC_WITH_VLAN ?
NULL : &vlan_id,
&if_index, &hoplimit);
The issue here is that the position of arguments in the call to
rdma_addr_find_l2_eth_by_grh() function do not match the order of
the parameters:
&dgid is passed to sgid
&sgid is passed to dgid
This is the function prototype:
int rdma_addr_find_l2_eth_by_grh(const union ib_gid *sgid,
const union ib_gid *dgid,
u8 *dmac, u16 *vlan_id, int *if_index,
int *hoplimit)
My question here is if this is intentional?
Answer:
Yes. ib_init_ah_from_wc() creates ah from the incoming packet.
Incoming packet has dgid of the receiver node on which this code is
getting executed and sgid contains the GID of the sender.
When resolving mac address of destination, you use arrived dgid as
sgid and use sgid as dgid because sgid contains destinations GID whom to
respond to.

- sleeping while holding a lock, so a one line fix where they
switched it from GFP_KERNEL allocation to a GFP_ATOMIC allocation
- a case where they had an isolated caller of their code that could
call them in an atomic context so they had to switch their use of a

In addition, the bug that was discussed with you already about an out

and is only seven lines of diff.
And finally, one fix to an earlier fix in the -rc cycle that broke

than I would like for a -rc7 submission, but fixing the problem
required that we not treat all devices as though they had allocated a

to resolve the issue, but the final patch has been vetted by Intel and

- Fix for user supplied input causing kernel problems
- Fix for the IPoIB fixes submitted around -rc4"
[ Doug sent this having not noticed the 4.12 release, so I guess I'll be
getting another rdma pull request with the actuakl merge window
updates and not just fixes.
Oh well - it would have been nice if this small update had been the
merge window one. - Linus ]

IPOIB is calling free_rdma_netdev even though alloc_rdma_netdev has
returned -EOPNOTSUPP.
Move free_rdma_netdev from ib_device structure to rdma_netdev structure
thus ensuring proper cleanup function is called for the rdma net device.

Pull security layer updates from James Morris:
- a major update for AppArmor. From JJ:
* several bug fixes and cleanups
* the patch to add symlink support to securityfs that was floated
on the list earlier and the apparmorfs changes that make use of
securityfs symlinks
* it introduces the domain labeling base code that Ubuntu has been
carrying for several years, with several cleanups applied. And it
converts the current mediation over to using the domain labeling
base, which brings domain stacking support with it. This finally
will bring the base upstream code in line with Ubuntu and provide
a base to upstream the new feature work that Ubuntu carries.
* This does _not_ contain any of the newer apparmor mediation
features/controls (mount, signals, network, keys, ...) that
Ubuntu is currently carrying, all of which will be RFC'd on top
of this.
- Notable also is the Infiniband work in SELinux, and the new file:map
permission. From Paul:
"While we're down to 21 patches for v4.13 (it was 31 for v4.12),
the diffstat jumps up tremendously with over 2k of line changes.
Almost all of these changes are the SELinux/IB work done by
Daniel Jurgens; some other noteworthy changes include a NFS v4.2
labeling fix, a new file:map permission, and reporting of policy
capabilities on policy load"
There's also now genfscon labeling support for tracefs, which was
lost in v4.1 with the separation from debugfs.
- Smack incorporates a safer socket check in file_receive, and adds a
cap_capable call in privilege check.
- TPM as usual has a bunch of fixes and enhancements.
- Multiple calls to security_add_hooks() can now be made for the same
LSM, to allow LSMs to have hook declarations across multiple files.
- IMA now supports different "ima_appraise=" modes (eg. log, fix) from
the boot command line.

Here is the big driver core update for 4.13-rc1.
The large majority of this is a lot of cleanup of old fields in the
driver core structures and their remaining usages in random drivers.
All of those fixes have been reviewed by the various subsystem
maintainers. There's also some small firmware updates in here, a new
kobject uevent api interface that makes userspace interaction easier,
and a few other minor things.
All of these have been in linux-next for a long while with no reported

The ib_uverbs_create_ah() ind ib_uverbs_modify_qp() calls receive
the port number from user input as part of its attributes and assumes
it is valid. Down on the stack, that parameter is used to access kernel
data structures. If the value is invalid, the kernel accesses memory
it should not. To prevent this, verify the port number before using it.

Base receive contexts can be used by sub contexts. Because of this,
resources for the context cannot be completely freed until all sub
contexts are done using the base context.
Introduce a reference count so that the base receive context can be
freed only when all sub contexts are done with it.
Use the provided function call for setting default send context
integrity rather than the manual method.
The cleanup path does not set all variables back to NULL after freeing
resources. Since the clean up code can get called more than once,
(e.g. during context close and on the error path), it is necessary to
make sure that all the variables are NULLed.

In process_receive_packet the packet header field is used to calculate
the length of the packet. However this is not necessarily setup. In fact
only if the ECN prescan is enabled will the packet header be valid at
this point.
The code works as is because we do not do anything with the packet
length at this point in the packet processing. The length and header are
setup correctly in hfi1_setup_ib_header which is called by the following
sequence:
process_receive_packet()
-> rhf_receieve_function_map[]()

An RB tree is used for the SDMA pinning cache. Cache
entries are extracted and reinserted from the tree
in case the address range for it changes. However,
if the address range for the entry doesn't change,
deleting the entry from the RB tree is not necessary.
This affects performance since the tree needs to be
rebalanced for each insertion, and this happens in
the hot path. Optimize RB search by not removing
entries when it's not needed.

SGEs that are contiguous needlessly consume driver dependent TX resources.
The lkey validation logic is enhanced to compress the SGE that ends
up in the send wqe when consecutive addresses are detected.
The lkey validation API used to return 1 (success) or 0 (fail).
The return value is now an -errno, 0 (compressed), or 1 (uncompressed). A
additional argument is added to pass the last SQE for the compression.
Loopback callers always pass a NULL to last_sge since the optimization is
of little benefit in that situation.

Rename:
wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_t
'wait_queue_t' was always a slight misnomer: its name implies that it's a "queue",
but in reality it's a queue *entry*. The 'real' queue is the wait queue head,
which had to carry the name.
Start sorting this out by renaming it to 'wait_queue_entry_t'.
This also allows the real structure name 'struct __wait_queue' to
lose its double underscore and become 'struct wait_queue_entry',
which is the more canonical nomenclature for such data types.

Instead of just the six patches to bnxt_re that I had anticipated,
there are another five IPoIB patches, two qedr patches, and a few
other miscellaneous patches.
The bnxt_re patches are more lines of diff than I like to submit this
late in the game. That's mostly because of the first two patches in
the series of six. I almost dropped them just because of the lines of
churn, but on a close review, a lot of the churn came from removing
duplicated code sections and consolidating them into callable
routines. I felt like this made the number of lines of change more
acceptable, and they address problems, so I left them. The remainder
of the patches are all small, well contained, and well understood.
These have passed 0day testing, but have not been submitted to
