Function lpuart_setup_watermark() clears some bits in register UARTCR2
before writing FIFO configuration registers as required by hardware.
But it should restore UARTCR2 after that. Otherwise, we end up changing
UARTCR2 register when setting up watermark, and that is not really
desirable. At least, when low-level debug and earlyprint is enabled,
serial console is broken due to it.
Fix the problem by restoring UARTCR2 register at the end of function
lpuart_setup_watermark().

Acquiring the write_wait queue spin lock now accounts for the largest
slice of cpu time on the tty write path. Two factors contribute to
this situation; a overly-pessimistic line discipline write loop which
_always_ sets up a wait loop even if i/o will immediately succeed, and
on ptys, a wakeup storm from reads and writes.
Writer wakeup does not need to be performed by the pty driver.
Firstly, since the actual i/o is performed within the write, the
line discipline write loop will continue while space remains in
the flip buffers. Secondly, when space becomes avail in the
line discipline receive buffer (and thus also in the flip buffers),
the pty unthrottle re-wakes the writer (non-flow-controlled line
disciplines unconditionally unthrottle the driver when data is
received). Thus, existing in-kernel i/o is guaranteed to advance.
Finally, writer wakeup occurs at the conclusion of the line discipline
write (in tty_write_unlock()). This guarantees that any user-space write
waiters are woken to continue additional i/o.

In canonical mode, an EOF which is not the first character of the line
causes read() to complete and return the number of characters read so
far (commonly referred to as EOF push). However, if the previous read()
returned because the user buffer was full _and_ the next character
is an EOF not at the beginning of the line, read() must not return 0,
thus mistakenly indicating the end-of-file condition.
The TTY_PUSH flag is used to indicate an EOF was received which is not
at the beginning of the line. Because the EOF push condition is
evaluated by a thread other than the read(), multiple EOF pushes can
cause a premature end-of-file to be indicated.
Instead, discover the 'EOF push as first read character' condition
from the read() thread itself, and restart the i/o loop if detected.

between the single-producer (n_tty_receive_buf()) and the
single-consumer (n_tty_read()).
Compute read_cnt from head & tail instead of storing.

Wrap read_buf indices (read_head, read_tail, canon_head) at
max representable value, instead of at the N_TTY_BUF_SIZE. This step
is necessary to allow lockless reads of these shared variables

Although line discipline receiving is single-producer/single-consumer,
using tty->receive_room to manage flow control creates unnecessary
critical regions requiring additional lock use.
Instead, introduce the optional .receive_buf2() ldisc method which
returns the # of bytes actually received. Serialization is guaranteed
by the caller.
In turn, the line discipline should schedule the buffer work item
whenever space becomes available; ie., when there is room to receive
data and receive_room() previously returned 0 (the buffer work
item stops processing if receive_buf2() returns 0). Note the
'no room' state need not be atomic despite concurrent use by two
threads because only the buffer work thread can set the state and
only the read() thread can clear the state.
Add n_tty_receive_buf2() as the receive_buf2() method for N_TTY.
Provide a public helper function, tty_ldisc_receive_buf(), to use
when directly accessing the receive_buf() methods.
Line disciplines not using input flow control can continue to set
tty->receive_room to a fixed value and only provide the receive_buf()
method.

Ldisc interface functions must be called with interrupts enabled.
Separating the ldisc calls into a helper function simplies the
eventual removal of the spinlock.
Note that access to the buf->head ptr outside the spinlock is
safe here because;
* __tty_buffer_flush() is prevented from running while buffer work
performs i/o,
* tty_buffer_find() only assigns buf->head if the flip buffer list
is empty (which is never the case in flush_to_ldisc() since at
least one buffer is always left in the list after use)
Access to the read index outside the spinlock is safe here for the
same reasons.
Update the buffer's read index _after_ the data has been received
by the ldisc.

2) the over-complicated halt mechanism

Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"This time the total number of ACPI commits is slightly greater than
the number of cpufreq commits, but Viresh Kumar (who works on cpufreq)
remains the most active patch submitter.
To me, the most significant change is the addition of offline/online
device operations to the driver core (with the Greg's blessing) and
the related modifications of the ACPI core hotplug code. Next are the
freezer updates from Colin Cross that should make the freezing of
tasks a bit less heavy weight.
We also have a couple of regression fixes, a number of fixes for
issues that have not been identified as regressions, two new drivers
and a bunch of cleanups all over.
Highlights:
- Hotplug changes to support graceful hot-removal failures.
It sometimes is necessary to fail device hot-removal operations
gracefully if they cannot be carried out completely. For example,
if memory from a memory module being hot-removed has been allocated
for the kernel's own use and cannot be moved elsewhere, it's
desirable to fail the hot-removal operation in a graceful way
rather than to crash the kernel, but currenty a success or a kernel
crash are the only possible outcomes of an attempted memory
hot-removal. Needless to say, that is not a very attractive
alternative and it had to be addressed.
However, in order to make it work for memory, I first had to make
it work for CPUs and for this purpose I needed to modify the ACPI
processor driver. It's been split into two parts, a resident one
handling the low-level initialization/cleanup and a modular one
playing the actual driver's role (but it binds to the CPU system
device objects rather than to the ACPI device objects representing
processors). That's been sort of like a live brain surgery on a
patient who's riding a bike.
So this is a little scary, but since we found and fixed a couple of
regressions it caused to happen during the early linux-next testing
(a month ago), nobody has complained.
As a bonus we remove some duplicated ACPI hotplug code, because the
ACPI-based CPU hotplug is now going to use the common ACPI hotplug
code.
- Lighter weight freezing of tasks.
These changes from Colin Cross and Mandeep Singh Baines are
targeted at making the freezing of tasks a bit less heavy weight
operation. They reduce the number of tasks woken up every time
during the freezing, by using the observation that the freezer
simply doesn't need to wake up some of them and wait for them all
to call refrigerator(). The time needed for the freezer to decide
to report a failure is reduced too.
Also reintroduced is the check causing a lockdep warining to
trigger when try_to_freeze() is called with locks held (which is
generally unsafe and shouldn't happen).
- cpufreq updates
First off, a commit from Srivatsa S Bhat fixes a resume regression
introduced during the 3.10 cycle causing some cpufreq sysfs
attributes to return wrong values to user space after resume. The
fix is kind of fresh, but also it's pretty obvious once Srivatsa
has identified the root cause.
Second, we have a new freqdomain_cpus sysfs attribute for the
acpi-cpufreq driver to provide information previously available via
related_cpus. From Lan Tianyu.
Finally, we fix a number of issues, mostly related to the
CPUFREQ_POSTCHANGE notifier and cpufreq Kconfig options and clean
up some code. The majority of changes from Viresh Kumar with bits
from Jacob Shin, Heiko Stübner, Xiaoguang Chen, Ezequiel Garcia,
Arnd Bergmann, and Tang Yuantian.
- ACPICA update
A usual bunch of updates from the ACPICA upstream.
During the 3.4 cycle we introduced support for ACPI 5 extended
sleep registers, but they are only supposed to be used if the
HW-reduced mode bit is set in the FADT flags and the code attempted
to use them without checking that bit. That caused suspend/resume
regressions to happen on some systems. Fix from Lv Zheng causes
those registers to be used only if the HW-reduced mode bit is set.
Apart from this some other ACPICA bugs are fixed and code cleanups
are made by Bob Moore, Tomasz Nowicki, Lv Zheng, Chao Guan, and
Zhang Rui.
- cpuidle updates
New driver for Xilinx Zynq processors is added by Michal Simek.
Multidriver support simplification, addition of some missing
kerneldoc comments and Kconfig-related fixes come from Daniel
Lezcano.
- ACPI power management updates
Changes to make suspend/resume work correctly in Xen guests from
Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk, sparse warning fix from Fengguang Wu and
cleanups and fixes of the ACPI device power state selection
routine.
- ACPI documentation updates
Some previously missing pieces of ACPI documentation are added by
Lv Zheng and Aaron Lu (hopefully, that will help people to
uderstand how the ACPI subsystem works) and one outdated doc is
updated by Hanjun Guo.
- Assorted ACPI updates
We finally nailed down the IA-64 issue that was the reason for
reverting commit 9f29ab11dd ("ACPI / scan: do not match drivers
against objects having scan handlers"), so we can fix it and move
the ACPI scan handler check added to the ACPI video driver back to
the core.
A mechanism for adding CMOS RTC address space handlers is
introduced by Lan Tianyu to allow some EC-related breakage to be
fixed on some systems.
A spec-compliant implementation of acpi_os_get_timer() is added by
Mika Westerberg.
The evaluation of _STA is added to do_acpi_find_child() to avoid
situations in which a pointer to a disabled device object is
returned instead of an enabled one with the same _ADR value. From
Jeff Wu.
Intel BayTrail PCH (Platform Controller Hub) support is added to
the ACPI driver for Intel Low-Power Subsystems (LPSS) and that
driver is modified to work around a couple of known BIOS issues.
Changes from Mika Westerberg and Heikki Krogerus.
The EC driver is fixed by Vasiliy Kulikov to use get_user() and
put_user() instead of dereferencing user space pointers blindly.
Code cleanups are made by Bjorn Helgaas, Nicholas Mazzuca and Toshi
Kani.
- Assorted power management updates
The "runtime idle" helper routine is changed to take the return
values of the callbacks executed by it into account and to call
rpm_suspend() if they return 0, which allows us to reduce the
overall code bloat a bit (by dropping some code that's not
necessary any more after that modification).
The runtime PM documentation is updated by Alan Stern (to reflect
the "runtime idle" behavior change).
New trace points for PM QoS are added by Sahara
(<keun-o.park@windriver.com>).
PM QoS documentation is updated by Lan Tianyu.
Code cleanups are made and minor issues are addressed by Bernie
Thompson, Bjorn Helgaas, Julius Werner, and Shuah Khan.
- devfreq updates
New driver for the Exynos5-bus device from Abhilash Kesavan.
Minor cleanups, fixes and MAINTAINERS update from MyungJoo Ham,
Abhilash Kesavan, Paul Bolle, Rajagopal Venkat, and Wei Yongjun.

These are changes that arrived a little late before the merge
window or that have multiple dependencies on previous branches
so they did not fit into one of the earlier ones. There
are 10 branches merged here, a total of 39 non-merge commits.
Contents are a mixed bag for the above reasons:
* Two new SoC platforms: ST microelectronics stixxxx and
the TI 'Nspire' graphing calculator. These should have
been in the 'soc' branch but were a little late
* Support for the Exynos 5420 variant in mach-exynos,
which is based on the other exynos branches to avoid
conflicts.
* Various small changes for sh-mobile, ux500 and davinci
* Common clk support for MSM
Conflicts:
* In Kconfig.debug, various additions trivially conflict,
the list should be kept in alphabetical order when
resolving.

These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in
this branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all,
since they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part of
the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni, we can
now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable modules and
keep them separate from the platform code in drivers/pci/host. This has
already led to the discovery that three platforms (exynos, spear and imx)
are actually using an identical PCIe host controller and will be able
to share a driver once support for spear and imx is added.
Conflicts:
* asm/glue-proc.h has one CPU type getting added that conflicts
with another addition in 3.10-rc7
* Simple context changes in arch/arm/Makefile and arch/arm/Kconfig

A few differences needed by OCTEON:
o These are DWC UARTS, but have USR at a different offset.
o Internal SoC buses require reading back from registers to maintain
write ordering.
o 8250 on OCTEON appears with 64-bit wide registers, so when using
readb/writeb in big endian mode we have to adjust the membase to hit
the proper part of the register.
o No UCV register, so we hard code some properties.
Because OCTEON doesn't have a UCV register, I change where
dw8250_setup_port(), which reads the UCV, is called by pushing it in
to the OF and ACPI probe functions, and move unchanged
dw8250_setup_port() earlier in the file.

This patchset moves the existing MSM clock code and affected drivers

This change addresses two warnings that are flagged by gcc relating to
potential access to the ssr and cks variables while they are uninitialised.
I have addressed this by initialising the values to
the defaults present in sci_baud_calc_hscif().
It is my analysis that cks is always initialised if used
but that without this change ssr may be accessed while uninitialised.
The code altered by this patch was introduced by commit

Clocks are not clk_put() in this driver's error paths during
probe. The code that checks for clock errors also fails to
properly return the error code from the pclk member if it turns
out to be the failing clock, leading to potentially confusing
error values if the clk member is not an error pointer. Fix these
problems with devm_clk_get() and proper error checking.
Removing the clk_put() in msm_serial_remove() also points out
that msm_port is unused. Furthermore, msm_port is the wrong type
and so the clk_put() would be using the wrong pointer. Replace it
with the proper type and call uart_remove_one_port() to do the
proper cleanup.

receive_room is used to control the amount of data the flip
buffer work can push to the read buffer. This update is unsafe:
CPU 0 | CPU 1

| left = <calc of space>
n_tty_receive_buf() |
<push data to buffer> |
n_tty_set_room() |
left = <calc of space> |
tty->receive_room = left |
| tty->receive_room = left
receive_room is now updated with a stale calculation of the

overwrite unread data in the input buffer.

In the runtime_suspend function pdata is not being used, and
also blocks the function in device tree based booting. Fix it
by removing the unused pdata from the runtime_suspend function.
Further, context loss count is not being passed in pdata, so
let's just reinitialize the port every time for those case.
This can be further optimized later on for the device tree
case by adding detection for the hardware state and possibly
by adding a driver specific autosuspend timeout.
And doing this, we can then make the related dev_err into a
dev_dbg message instead of an error.
In order for the wake-up events to work, we also need to set
autosuspend_timeout to -1 if 0, and also device_init_wakeup()
as that's not being done by the platform init code for the
device tree case.
Note that this does not affect legacy booting, and in fact
might make it work for the cases where the context loss info
is not being passed in pdata.
Thanks to Kevin Hilman <khilman@linaro.org> for debugging
and suggesting fixes for the autosuspend_timeout and

The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0. If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.
Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.
To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

Pull ARM SoC fixes from Olof Johansson:
"We didn't have any fixes sent up for -rc2, so this is a slightly
larger batch. A bit all over the place platform-wise; OMAP, at91,
marvell, renesas, sunxi, ux500, etc.
I tried to summarize highlights but there isn't a whole lot to point
out. Lots of little things fixed all over. A couple of defconfig
updates due to new/changing options."

The semantics of a rw semaphore are almost ideally suited
for tty line discipline lifetime management; multiple active
threads obtain "references" (read locks) while performing i/o
to prevent the loss or change of the current line discipline
(write lock).
Unfortunately, the existing rw_semaphore is ill-suited in other
ways;
1) TIOCSETD ioctl (change line discipline) expects to return an
error if the line discipline cannot be exclusively locked within
5 secs. Lock wait timeouts are not supported by rwsem.
2) A tty hangup is expected to halt and scrap pending i/o, so
exclusive locking must be prioritized.
Writer priority is not supported by rwsem.
Add ld_semaphore which implements these requirements in a
semantically similar way to rw_semaphore.
Writer priority is handled by separate wait lists for readers and
writers. Pending write waits are priortized before existing read
waits and prevent further read locks.
Wait timeouts are trivially added, but obviously change the lock
semantics as lock attempts can fail (but only due to timeout).
This implementation incorporates the write-lock stealing work of

I meet emacs hang in start if I do the operation below:
1: echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
2: emacs BigFile
3: Press CTRL-S follow 2 immediately
Then emacs hang on, CTRL-Q can't resume, the terminal
hang on, you can do nothing with this terminal except
close it.
The reason is before emacs takeover control the tty,
we use CTRL-S to XOFF it. Then when emacs takeover the
control, it may don't use the flow-control, so emacs hang.
This patch fix it.
This patch will fix a kind of strange tty relation hang problem,

Now that the tty port owns the flip buffers and i/o is allowed
from the driver even when no tty is attached, the destruction
of the tty port (and the flip buffers) must ensure that no
outstanding work is pending.
Unfortunately, this creates a lock order problem with the
console_lock (see attached lockdep report [1] below).
For single console deallocation, drop the console_lock prior
to port destruction. When multiple console deallocation,
defer port destruction until the consoles have been
deallocated.
tty_port_destroy() is not required if the port has not
been used; remove from vc_allocate() failure path.

Commit ffc3ae6dd "serial: 8250_dw: Enable runtime PM" introduced runtime
PM management, which enables/disables the clk without checking if the clk
is valid. However, this driver allows to be probed without a defined clk,
using clock-frequency, as a fallback.
Therefore, on platforms that are device tree probed using clock-frequency
instead of clk, we get an ugly NULL pointer dereference.
This patch fixes it by simply adding a check before accessing the clk api.

UART IP slave idle handling now taken care by runtime pm backend(hwmod layer)
so remove the hackery from the driver.
As discussed on the list, in future if dma mode needs to be brought
back to this driver, UART sysc handling needs to be updated in
framework such a way that no-idle/force idle profile can be supported.
Given the broken dma mode for OMAP uarts, its very unlikely.
