Welcome to the FAQ! Find answers to a variety of Frequently Asked Questions below:

Q1. How do I share drives with my Linux VM?

  1. Connect to your running VM with the enhanced session dialog box. Click "show options"
  2. Click "Local Resources" tab
  3. Make sure printers is unchecked
  4. Click on "More" button
  5. Make sure "Drives" is checked.

Please note: Sharing printers will cause for shared drives to break. Always make sure this is unchecked

Q2. Is sound supported?

We do not support audio for enhanced mode today.

Q3. Is RemoteFX supported?

RemoteFX, a technology for supporting acceleration for certain graphics APIs (such as OpenGL), is not supported in Enhanced Session Mode Linux VMs.

Q4. I'm experiencing slow performance. How do I fix this?

We are aware that enhanced session mode with high resolution / high DPI displays causes performance degradation. This issue is on our backlog. In the interim, running at a lower resolution and giving your VM more virtual processors will help to provide a smoother experience.

Q4. Do I need to be on a particular version of Windows?

You need to be on Windows 10 April 2018 update (1803) and beyond OR participate in the Insider flighting program.

Q5. I can't make it past the blue XRDP login screen. What is wrong?

Please make sure the account you are logging into has "auto-login" set to disabled.

Q6. Can I connect to the VM over tcp?

Yes, although you cannot configure xrdp to connect over both tcp and vsock (see issue #31). If you choose to configure xrdp to connect over tcp instead, you will break the Enhanced Session Mode functionality for your VM.

To configure xrdp to accept connections via tcp instead, edit xrdp.ini to set use_vsock=false and security_layer=negotiate. Save the file changes. Restart the VM for the changes to take effect.
