Laurent Pinchart 63d573835f sh-pfc: Add support for sparse pin numbers
The PFC driver assumes that the value of the GPIO_PORTxxx enumeration
names are equal to the port number. This isn't true when the port number
space is sparse, as with the SH73A0.

SoC data. When no range is specified the driver considers that the PFC

Haojian Zhuang a1a277eb76 pinctrl: single: create new gpio function range
Since gpio driver could create gpio range in DTS, it could invoke
pinctrl_request_gpio(). In the pinctrl-single driver, it needs to
configure pins with gpio function mode.

A new gpio function range should be created in DTS file in below.

pinctrl-single,gpio-range = <phandle pin_offset nr_pins gpio_func>;

range: gpio-range {
	#pinctrl-single,gpio-range-cells = <3>;
};

The gpio-ranges property is used in gpio driver and the
pinctrl-single,gpio-range property is used in pinctrl-single driver.

1. gpio-ranges is used for gpio driver in below.
   gpio-ranges = <phandle gpio_offset_in_chip pin_offset nr_pins>
	gpio-ranges = < &pmx0 0 89 1 &pmx0 1 89 1 &pmx0 2 90 1
			&pmx0 3 90 1 &pmx0 4 91 1 &pmx0 5 92 1>;

2. gpio driver could get pin offset from gpio-ranges property.
   pinctrl-single driver could get gpio function mode from gpio_func
   that is stored in @gpiofuncs list in struct pcs_device.
   This new pinctrl-single,gpio-range is used as complement for
   gpio-ranges property in gpio driver.

Haojian Zhuang 51e13c2475 pinctrl: check pinctrl ready for gpio range
pinctrl_get_device_gpio_range() only checks whether a certain GPIO pin
is in gpio range. But maybe some GPIO pins don't have back-end pinctrl
interface, it means that these pins are always configured as GPIO
function. For example, gpio159 isn't related to back-end pinctrl device
in Hi3620 while other GPIO pins are related to back-end pinctrl device.

Append pinctrl_ready_for_gpio_range() that is used to check whether
pinctrl device with GPIO range is ready. This function will be called
after pinctrl_get_device_gpio_range() fails.

If pinctrl device with GPIO range is found, it means that pinctrl device
is already launched and a certain GPIO pin just don't have back-end pinctrl
interface. Then pinctrl_request_gpio() shouldn't return -EPROBE_DEFER in
this case.

Linus Torvalds 7ae1c76ee5 arm-soc: pin muxing for sh-mobile
This is another cleanup series, containing the move of the Renesas
 SH-Mobile pin controller code from arch/arm/mach-shmobile over to the
 generic pinctrl subsystem, changing it over to the common interfaces in
 the process.

 Based on agreement between Olof, Paul Mundt, Linus Walleij and Simon,
 we're merging this large branch of pinctrl conversion through arm-soc,
 even though it contains the corresponding conversions for arch/sh. Main
 reason for this is tight dependencies (that will now mostly be broken)
 between the arch/sh and mach-shmobile implementations.

 There will be more of this in 3.10 to do device-tree bindings, but this
 is the initial conversion.

Laurent Meunier 6f9e41f4e6 pinctrl/pinconfig: add debug interface
This update adds a debugfs interface to modify a pin configuration
for a given state in the pinctrl map. This allows to modify the
configuration for a non-active state, typically sleep state.
This configuration is not applied right away, but only when the state
will be entered.

This solution is mandated for us by HW validation: in order
to test and verify several pin configurations during sleep without
recompiling the software.

Lee Jones a6a16d274e pinctrl/abx500: replace IRQ offsets with table read-in values
The ABx500 GPIO controller used to provide a set of virtual contiguous
IRQs for use by sub-devices, but they have been removed after a request
from Mainline Maintainers. Now the AB8500 core driver deals with almost
all IRQ related issues instead.

The ABx500 GPIO driver is now only used to convert between GPIO and IRQ
numbers which is actually quite difficult, as the ABx500 GPIO's
associated IRQs are clustered together throughout the interrupt number
space at irregular intervals. To solve this quandary, we have placed the
read-in values into the existing cluster information table to use during
conversion.

Lee Jones ac652d7941 pinctrl/abx500: move IRQ handling to ab8500-core
In its current state the gpio-ab8500 driver looks after some GPIO
lines found on the AB8500 MFD chip. It also controls all of its
own IRQ handling for these GPIOs by inventing some virtual IRQs
and handing those out to sub-devices. There has been quite a bit
of controversy over this and it was a contributing factor to the
driver being marked as BROKEN in Mainline.

The reason for adopting this method was due to added complexity
in the hardware. Unusually, each GPIO has two separate IRQs
associated with it, one for a rising and a different one for a
falling interrupt. Using this method complicates matters further
because the GPIO IRQs are actually sandwiched between a bunch
of IRQs which are handled solely by the AB8500 core driver.

The best way for us to take this forward is to get rid of the
virtual IRQs and only hand out the rising IRQ lines. If a
sub-driver wishes to request a falling interrupt, they can do
so by requesting a rising line in the normal way. They just
have to add IRQ_TYPE_EDGE_FALLING or IRQ_TYPE_EDGE_BOTH, if
they require both in the flags. Then if a falling IRQ is
triggered, the AB8500 core driver will know how to handle the
added complexity accordingly. This should greatly simply things.

Maxime Ripard 08e9e614ca ARM: sunxi: gpio: Add Allwinner SoCs GPIO drivers
The IP responsible for the muxing on the Allwinner SoCs are also
handling the GPIOs on the system. This patch adds the needed driver that
relies on the pinctrl driver for most of its operations.

The number of pins available for GPIOs operations are already declared
in the pinctrl driver, we only need to probe a generic driver to handle
the banks available for each SoC.

This driver has been tested on a A13-Olinuxino.

nmk_prcm_gpiocr_get_mode is only needed for debugfs output at

Linus Walleij ab78029ecc drivers/pinctrl: grab default handles from device core
This makes the device core auto-grab the pinctrl handle and set
the "default" (PINCTRL_STATE_DEFAULT) state for every device
that is present in the device model right before probe. This will
account for the lion's share of embedded silicon devcies.

A modification of the semantics for pinctrl_get() is also done:
previously if the pinctrl handle for a certain device was already
taken, the pinctrl core would return an error. Now, since the
core may have already default-grabbed the handle and set its
state to "default", if the handle was already taken, this will
be disregarded and the located, previously instanitated handle
will be returned to the caller.

This way all code in drivers explicitly requesting their pinctrl
handlers will still be functional, and drivers that want to
explicitly retrieve and switch their handles can still do that.
But if the desired functionality is just boilerplate of this
type in the probe() function:

struct pinctrl  *p;

p = devm_pinctrl_get_select_default(&dev);
if (IS_ERR(p)) {
   if (PTR_ERR(p) == -EPROBE_DEFER)
        return -EPROBE_DEFER;
        dev_warn(&dev, "no pinctrl handle\n");
}

The discussion began with the addition of such boilerplate
to the omap4 keypad driver:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-input&m=135091157719300&w=2

A previous approach using notifiers was discussed:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=135263661110528&w=2
This failed because it could not handle deferred probes.

This patch alone does not solve the entire dilemma faced:
whether code should be distributed into the drivers or
if it should be centralized to e.g. a PM domain. But it
solves the immediate issue of the addition of boilerplate
to a lot of drivers that just want to grab the default
state. As mentioned, they can later explicitly retrieve
the handle and set different states, and this could as
well be done by e.g. PM domains as it is only related
to a certain struct device * pointer.

ChangeLog v4->v5 (Stephen):
- Simplified the devicecore grab code.
- Deleted a piece of documentation recommending that pins
  be mapped to a device rather than hogged.
ChangeLog v3->v4 (Linus):
- Drop overzealous NULL checks.
- Move kref initialization to pinctrl_create().
- Seeking Tested-by from Stephen Warren so we do not disturb
  the Tegra platform.
- Seeking ACK on this from Greg (and others who like it) so I
  can merge it through the pinctrl subsystem.
ChangeLog v2->v3 (Linus):
- Abstain from using IS_ERR_OR_NULL() in the driver core,
  Russell recently sent a patch to remove it. Handle the
  NULL case explicitly even though it's a bogus case.
- Make sure we handle probe deferral correctly in the device
  core file. devm_kfree() the container on error so we don't
  waste memory for devices without pinctrl handles.
- Introduce reference counting into the pinctrl core using
  <linux/kref.h> so that we don't release pinctrl handles
  that have been obtained for two or more places.
ChangeLog v1->v2 (Linus):
- Only store a pointer in the device struct, and only allocate
  this if it's really used by the device.

The reason of not fixing this issue and reverting the patch instead is
this patch can't handle another case. It's not easy to handle multiple
gpios sharing one pin register. So this gpio range feature will be
implemented by other patches.

Lee Jones 32e67eee67 pinctrl: nomadik: Allow prcm_base to be extracted from Device Tree
The Nomadik Pinctrl driver requires access to some PRCMU registers
in order to run with full functionality. When Device Tree is
disabled the required PRCMU base address is passed in via platform
data, so in order for Device Tree booting to be as functional, we
need a similar mechanism to fetch it from Device Tree.

The new semantics goes like this: Parse the Device Tree and look
for the PRCMU node using a provided Phandle. Obtain the ioremaped
address from that node. If one was supplied via platform data
over-write it with anything found in Device Tree. Fail if either
the prcm_base can't be found if we're running on anything other

Pritesh Raithatha b6ae7a2653 pinctrl: tegra114: add pinctrl driver for NVIDIA's Tegra114 SoC
This adds a driver for the Tegra114 pinmux, and required
parameterization data for Tegra114.

The driver uses the common Tegra pincontrol driver utility
functions to implement the majority of the driver.

This driver is not compatible with the earlier NVIDIA's SoCs,
hence add new compatibile as "nvidia,tegra114-pinmux".

Pritesh Raithatha 348d1bf75c pinctrl: tegra: add support for rcv-sel and drive type
NVIDIA's Tegra114 added two more configuration parameter in pinmux i.e.
rcv-sel and drive type.

rcv-sel: Select between High and Normal VIL/VIH receivers.
	RCVR_SEL=1: High VIL/VIH
	RCVR_SEL=0: Normal VIL/VIH

drv_type: Ouptput drive type:
	33-50 ohm driver: 0x1
	66-100ohm driver: 0x0

Add support of these parameters to be configure from DTS file.

Tegra20 and Tegra30 does not support this configuration and hence initialize their
pinmux structure with reg = -1.

Linus Walleij 89216494ae pinctrl: skip deferral of hogs
Up until now, as hogs were always taken at the end of the
pin control device registration, it didn't cause any problem.
But when starting to hog pins from the device core it will
cause deferral of the pin controller device itself since the
default pin fetch is done *before* the device probes, so
let's fix this annoyance (which is also aesthetically ugly).

Also take some care to make sure that if any one map entry
results in a deferral rather than a failure, then that
deferral will take precedence.

Linus Torvalds b8edf848e9 ARM: arm-soc: multiplatform conversion patches
Here are more patches in the progression towards multiplatform, sparse
 irq conversions in particular.

 Tegra has a handful of cleanups and general groundwork, but is
 not quite there yet on full enablement.

 Platforms that are enabled through this branch are VT8500 and Zynq. note
 that i.MX was converted in one of the earlier cleanup branches as
 well (before we started a separate topic for multiplatform). And both
 new platforms for this merge window, sunxi and bcm, were merged with
 multiplatform support enabled.

Linus Torvalds db5b0ae007 ARM: arm-soc: device tree conversions and enablement
Continued device tree conversion and enablement across a number of
 platforms; Kirkwood, tegra, i.MX, Exynos, zynq and a couple of other

 ux500 has seen continued conversion for platforms. Several platforms have
 seen pinctrl-via-devicetree conversions for simpler multiplatform. Tegra

Linus Torvalds d027db132b ARM: arm-soc: SoC updates for 3.8
This contains the bulk of new SoC development for this merge window.

 Two new platforms have been added, the sunxi platforms (Allwinner A1x
 SoCs) by Maxime Ripard, and a generic Broadcom platform for a new
 series of ARMv7 platforms from them, where the hope is that we can
 keep the platform code generic enough to have them all share one mach
 directory. The new Broadcom platform is contributed by Christian Daudt.

 Highbank has grown support for Calxeda's next generation of hardware,
 ECX-2000.

 clps711x has seen a lot of cleanup from Alexander Shiyan, and he's also
 taken on maintainership of the platform.

 Beyond this there has been a bunch of work from a number of people on
 converting more platforms to IRQ domains, pinctrl conversion, cleanup
 and general feature enablement across most of the active platforms.

Linus Torvalds cff2f741b8 Driver core updates for 3.8-rc1
Here's the large driver core updates for 3.8-rc1.

 The biggest thing here is the various __dev* marking removals. This is
 going to be a pain for the merge with different subsystem trees, I know,
 but all of the patches included here have been ACKed by their various
 subsystem maintainers, as they wanted them to go through here.

 If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree
 and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after
 3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
 it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
 doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.

 Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some
 firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.

 All of these have (much to Stephen's annoyance), been in linux-next for
 a while.

Linus Torvalds 505cbedab9 This is the pinctrl big pull request for v3.8.
As can be seen from the diffstat the major changes
 are:

 - A big conversion of the AT91 pinctrl driver and
   the associated ACKed platform changes under
   arch/arm/max-at91 and its device trees. This
   has been coordinated with the AT91 maintainers
   to go in through the pinctrl tree.

 - A larger chunk of changes to the SPEAr drivers
   and the addition of the "plgpio" driver for the
   SPEAr as well.

 - The removal of the remnants of the Nomadik driver
   from the arch/arm tree and fusion of that into
   the Nomadik driver and platform data header files.

 - Some local movement in the Marvell MVEBU drivers,
   these now have their own subdirectory.

 - The addition of a chunk of code to gpiolib under
   drivers/gpio to register gpio-to-pin range mappings
   from the GPIO side of things. This has been
   requested by Grant Likely and is now implemented,
   it is particularly useful for device tree work.

 Then we have incremental updates all over the place,
 many of these are cleanups and fixes from Axel Lin
 who has done a great job of removing minor mistakes
 and compilation annoyances.

The Marvell 98DX412x SoC embed a kirkwood variant that does not have
pinctrl support yet. Even though this kirkwood is very similar to the
88f6281, on the MPP front a lot of pins are not available. That's why a
new kirkwood pinctrl variant is needed.

Haojian Zhuang 2e8b2eab94 pinctrl: single: support gpio request and free
Marvell's PXA/MMP silicon also match the behavior of pinctrl-single.
Each pin binds to one register. A lot of pins could be configured
as gpio.

GPIO range is defined as a child node of pinmux in .dtsi file. If those
pins are with the same gpio function configuration in the pinmux
register, they could be defined in the same GPIO range. For this new
child node, two properties are used.

reg = <the start of pinmux register in range, size of range>

pinctrl-single,gpio: <gpio base in range, the gpio function of the range
		in the pinmux register>

Let's stop spawning the pinctrl driver from the GPIO driver,
we have these two mechanisms broken apart now, and they can

This adds a function to the pinctrl core to retrieve the GPIO
range associated with a certain pin for a certain controller.
