Drivers really only work well in SMP if they actually can be selected.
This is a leftover from the time when the 6pack drive only used to be
a bitrotten variant of the slip driver.

Yukon-Lite chipset needs workaround for revision 7 (or later).
Without this patch, chip gets stuck in low power mode and never
boots. Newer SysKonnect vendor code already had same patch.

This patch makes tms380tr use the new DMA API. Now that on Alpha, this API
also supports bus master DMA for ISA (platform) devices, i changed the
driver to use this new API.
This also works around a bug in the firmware loader: The example provided
in Documentation/firmware_class no longer works, as the firmware loader now
calls get_kobj_path_length() and the kernel promptly oopses, as the
home-grown device doesn't have a parent. Of course, this doesn't happen
with a "real" device which has its bus (or pseudo bus in the case of
platform) as parent.
Converted tms380tr to use new DMA API:
- proteon.c, skisa.c: use platform pseudo bus to create a struct device
- Space.c: delete init hooks
- abyss.c, tmspci.c: pass struct device to tms380tr.c
- tms380tr.c, tms380tr.h: new DMA API, use real device fo firmware loader

Preparations for starting to use net/ieee80211 instead of private
IEEE 802.11 implementation. Include net/ieee80211.h and
net/ieee80211_crypt.h into files that will be needed these in the
future. Remove duplicate definitions from hostap_common.h and
rename WLAN_FC_GET_{TYPE,STYPE} macros for now sinc net/ieee80211.h
is using incompatible definitions. This will be resolved in the
future by updating Host AP to use the versions that do not shift
type/stype.

Add a restriction to the size of the Rx buffer
SiS driver forces the size of any Rx buffer to be a multiple of 64 bit.
I would not be surprized that it goes along with some alignment issues
which have been experienced before. So far it does not make much of a
difference (both drivers use 1536 bytes buffer).

Bug: disabling autonegotiation and setting the link parameters at the
same time does not provide the expected result. More investigation is
needed.
Note: past the initial probe/open time, the link is managed from user-space
or accessed through sis190_phy_task, i.e. in a usermode context. Whence the
very limited locking needs.

Raise the sis190 driver from the dead
The driver handles the integrated network device found on SiS 965L
chipset. It follows the classical (non-napi) interrupt-driven model
and provides minimal ethtool support.
The code comes from a heavy cleanup/rewrite of the original code
which was removed from the kernel on 14/04/2004. Since the r8169
driver does not work too bad and there will probably be (at least)
a few months of improvements/testing/fixing, I made the code as
close as possible to the r8169 one.
Pascal Chapperon <pascal.chapperon@wanadoo.fr> deserves some special
credit for testing and bug-catching. Many thanks to Lars Vahlenberg
as well.

Fixed beacon frame when moving from monitor mode to master mode
(workaround for firmware bug that left IBSS IE in the Beacon
frames). This is using the same workaround that was previously used
when moving from adhoc mode to master mode.

prism2_transmit_cb uses a (void *) argument to get an integer. A
simple fix would be to use double cast from pointer to long and then to
int (and vice versa when int is passed as a pointer). But I prefer a
slightly longer patch.
I believe that whenever an argument can hold both a pointer and an
integer, it should be declared long. long can hold both pointers and
integers (except win64, but we are not coding for Windows), it can be
cast to both of them and it's never assumed to be a valid pointer, which
could be useful for some automatic code checkers.

Firmware seems to be getting into odd state in host_roaming mode 2
when hostscan is used without join command, so try to fix this by
re-joining the current AP. This does not actually trigger a new
association if the current AP is still in the scan results.
This makes background scans (iwlist wlan0 scan) not to break data
connection when in host_roaming 2 mode, e.g., when using wpa_supplicant.

pcmcia id_table for hostap_cs.c
Hi Jouni,
Here's a patch for adding a pcmcia id_table to hostap_cs.c as introduced
by the PCMCIA subsystem changes in linux-2.6.13-rc1. The id_table allows
hotplug (along with pcmciautils [1]) to load the driver without the need
for the pcmcia-cs cardmgr daemon.
The id_table was generated from the CVS version of hostap_cs.conf using
a script borrowed from Dominik Brodowski. I have removed any duplicate
entries, but I have only been able to test the functionality of the
patch with a Linksys WPC11v3.

Create sysfs "device" files for hostap
I was writing some scripts to automatically build kismet source lines,
and I noticed that hostap devices don't have device files, unlike my
prism54 and ipw2200 cards:

The following (quite small) patch makes sure that both the wlan and wifi
net devices have that pointer to the bus device.

what order I plug the cards in.
It might also be handy to have a link between the two net devices, but

We want to extract our LAN card driver from tulip core driver and
make a new file uli526x.c at tulip folder, because we have added
some ethtool interface support and non-eprom support in our driver
and may be other change in the futher.
If our controllers support are still contained in the tulip core
driver, I think it'll increase the complexity of maintenance, you
know, tulip core driver include several files and support so many
other controllers. Furthermore, I tested the newest kernel 2.6.12
and I found the tulip driver can not work on our lan controller, and
I no time to debug it, so I aspired want to make a single uli526x.c
file just for our controllers. Could you help us remove the ULi
m5261/m5263 lan controller support from tulip core driver and add
the new single uli526x.c file for us?

sys_reboot() now calls device_suspend(), so it is no longer necessary for
the e1000 driver to register a reboot notifier [in fact doing so results in
e1000_suspend() getting called twice].

`gcc -W' likes to complain if the static keyword is not at the beginning of
the declaration. This patch fixes all remaining occurrences of "inline
static" up with "static inline" in the entire kernel tree (140 occurrences in
47 files).
While making this change I came across a few lines with trailing whitespace
that I also fixed up, I have also added or removed a blank line or two here
and there, but there are no functional changes in the patch.

Add 5780S support by adding a new tg3_setup_fiber_mii_phy() function and
a timer function for parallel link detection. 5780S uses standard MII
registers for 1000BaseX and runs in GMII mode as opposed to TBI mode on
older serdes chips.

Add basic jumbo frames support for 5780. This chip supports jumbo frames
on the standard receive ring without the jumbo ring. The
TG3_FLAG_JUMBO_ENABLE is changed to TG3_FLAG_JUMBO_RING_ENABLE to
indicate using the jumbo ring on 5704 and older chips. A new
TG3_FLG2_JUMBO_CAPABLE flag is added to indicate jumbo frames support
with or without the jumbo ring.

Put NETCONSOLE and NETPOLL options together since they are related.
This cuts down on the hassle of flipping back and forth between
the Networking menu and the Network drivers menu to change their
config settings.
Tested with menuconfig, gconfig, and xconfig.
gconfig has a small problem with this. I think that it's
a bug in gconfig and I will take it up with Romain Lievin.

Move the protocol specific config options out to the specific protocols.
With this change net/Kconfig now starts to become readable and serve as a
good basis for further re-structuring.
The menu structure is left almost intact, except that indention is
fixed in most cases. Most visible are the INET changes where several
"depends on INET" are replaced with a single ifdef INET / endif pair.
Several new files were created to accomplish this change - they are
small but serve the purpose that config options are now distributed
out where they belongs.

Create a new top-level menu named "Networking" thus moving
net related options and protocol selection way from the drivers
menu and up on the top-level where they belong.
To implement this all architectures has to source "net/Kconfig" before
drivers/*/Kconfig in their Kconfig file. This change has been
implemented for all architectures.
Device drivers for ordinary NIC's are still to be found
in the Device Drivers section, but Bluetooth, IrDA and ax25
are located with their corresponding menu entries under the new
networking menu item.

This is part of the grand scheme to eliminate the qlen
member of skb_queue_head, and subsequently remove the
'list' member of sk_buff.
Most users of skb_queue_len() want to know if the queue is
empty or not, and that's trivially done with skb_queue_empty()
which doesn't use the skb_queue_head->qlen member and instead
uses the queue list emptyness as the test.

This converts the usage of struct of_match to struct of_device_id,
similar to pci_device_id. This allows a device table to be generated,
which can be parsed by depmod(8) to generate a map file for module
loading.
In order for hotplug to work with macio devices, patches to
module-init-tools and hotplug must be applied. Those patches are

Many drivers use skb->tail unnecessarily.
In these situations, the code roughly looks like:
dev = dev_alloc_skb(...);
[optional] skb_reserve(skb, ...);
... skb->tail ...
But even if the skb_reserve() happens, skb->data equals
skb->tail. So it doesn't make any sense to use anything
other than skb->data in these cases.
Another case was the s2io.c driver directly mucking with
the skb->data and skb->tail pointers. It really just wanted
to do an skb_reserve(), so that's what the code was changed
to do instead.
Another reason I'm making this change as it allows some SKB
cleanups I have planned simpler to merge. In those cleanups,
skb->head, skb->tail, and skb->end pointers are removed, and
replaced with skb->head_room and skb->tail_room integers.

The amd8111e driver directly assigns the DMA mask to the dma_mask
member of the struct pci_dev instead of using pci_set_dma_mask(). This
makes the call to pci_dma_supported() redundant as pci_set_dma_mask()
does this check.
I do not own this device so I only compile-tested this patch.

For boards that invert the SMC91x IRQ line (maybe an FPGA inverts it),
the set_irq_type() call can't assume IRQT_RISING. These particular
boards currently use OMAP-specific calls to change the trigger type,
but the boards break when set_irq_type() stops being a NOP.

Rewrite the code for handling the Broadcom PHY to something that
works. Remove link polling because Broadcom and Yukon don't need it.
When I wrote initial code, didn't have a genesis chipset based
board to test, so it was a non-working guess.

Check the link state during b44_open. This closes a 1 HZ window
that existed after b44_open ran but before the b44_timer handler ran,
during which ethtool would report "Link detected: yes" no matter what
the link state actually was.

The race causes a kernel oops when smc_hardware_send_pkt() tries to
dereference pending_tx_skb which would have been freed from one of the
driver reset paths just after the tx_task tasklet has been scheduled.
This race is possible on SMP but was uncovered by the kernel RT work.

If the frame has ToDS flag set, mark it by setting skb->pkt_type to
PACKET_OTHERHOST, so that applications unaware of promiscous mode won't get
uplink (STA->AP) packets for STA->STA transmissions relayed by the AP.

Use ssleep() instead of nicedelay()
to guarantee the task delays as expected. Remove the prototype and
definition of nicedelay(). This is a very weird function, because it is
called to sleep in terms of usecs, but always sleeps for 1 second,
completely ignoring the parameter. I have gone ahead and followed suit,
just sleeping for a second in all cases, but maybe someone with the
hardware could tell me if perhaps the paramter *should* matter. Additionally,
nicedelay() is called in TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE state, but doesn't deal with signals
in case these longer delays do not complete, so I believe ssleep() is more
appropriate.

This is a fix for the interrupt handler in the defxx driver to use
irqreturn_t. Beside the obvious fix of returning a proper status at all,
it actually checks board registers as appropriate for determining if an
interrupt has been recorded in the bus-specific interface logic.
The patch also includes an obvious one-line fix for SET_NETDEV_DEV needed
for the EISA variation, for which I've decided there is no point in sending
separately.

During some performance diagnostics I stumbled on this slightly wasteful
code in pcnet_cs.c which I made the patch included at the bottom for (two
minor comment fixes included).
Improvement:
instead of *always* calculating
lea 0x2c0(%edx),%ebx
and then additionally doing the
mov %edx,0xc0(%ebx)
addition *if we need it*,
we now do the *whole* calculation of
mov %edx,0x380(%ebx)
*only* if we need it.
This even manages to save us a whole 16-byte alignment buffer loss
in this compilation case.
Result: slightly improves IRQ handler performance in both shared and
non-shared IRQ case, which should make my rusty P3/700 a slight bit happier.

The spin loop in 8139cp is limited to 100 iterations when pulling hardware
stats. There is no allowance for processor speed so on a fast machine, the
stats may not be available that fast. Also, if the board doesn't return
soon enough make sure turn the address back off to prevent later updates
when memory has gone away.
Add support for alternate slave selection algorithms to bonding
balance-xor and 802.3ad modes. Default mode (what we have now: xor of
MAC addresses) is "layer2", new choice is "layer3+4", using IP and port
information for hashing to select peer.

The attached patch to the Linux Etherchannel Bonding driver modifies the
driver's "balance-xor" mode as follows:
- alternate hashing policy support for mode 2

policy is the default, now found in xmit_hash_policy_layer2().
* Added xmit_hash_policy_layer34()

This patch does not address the problem of freeze_processes() violating the rule
that a task may only modify its own flags by setting PF_FREEZE. This is not clean
in an SMP environment. freeze(process) is therefore not SMP safe!

1. Move tp->irq_sync = 0 to before the interrupt mailbox IO in
tg3_enable_ints() so that the interrupt handler will always see
irq_sync == 0 when interrupts are enabled.
2. Remove the tg3_enable_ints() call in tg3_reset_hw(). Interrupts are
always enabled explicitly or through tg3_netif_start(). This is to
prevent interrupts being enabled while poll is disabled.
3. Update trans_start with jiffies in tg3_netif_stop() to prevent false
NETDEV WATCHDOG.
4. Pass in the proper irq_sync parameter to tg3_full_lock() depending on
netif_running() in some of the ethtool set calls.

Move all driver spinlocks to be taken at sw IRQ
context only.
This fixes the skb_copy() we were doing with hw
IRQs disabled (which is illegal and triggers a
BUG() with HIGHMEM enabled). It also simplifies
the locking all over the driver tremendously.
We accomplish this feat by creating a special
sequence to synchronize with the hw IRQ handler
using a binary state and synchronize_irq().
This idea is from Herbert Xu.
Thanks to Michael Chan for helping to track down
all of the race conditions in initial versions
of this code.

There must be a rmb() between reading the status block tag
and calling tg3_has_work(). This was missing in tg3_mis()
and tg3_interrupt_tagged(). tg3_poll() got it right.
Also, SD_STATUS_UPDATED must be cleared in the status block
right before we call tg3_has_work(). Only tg3_poll() got this
wrong.

We can avoid assignments to the local variable 'tmp' and
actually get rid of tmp alltogether in sl_free_bufs(). This patch does
that. This is safe since both kfree() and slhc_free() handles NULL
pointers gracefully.

My patch from a few weeks back (now in mainline), called "Cleanup skbs to
prevent unregister_netdevice() hanging", can cause our TX timeout code to
fire on machines with lots of VLANs (because it takes > 2 seconds between
when we stop the queues and when we're finished stopping the connections).
When that happens the TX timeout code freaks out and does a WARN_ON()
because as far as it's concerned there shouldn't be a TX timeout happening,
which is fair enough.
I have a "proper" fix for this, which is to a) do refcounting on
connections and b) implement a proper ack timer so we don't keep unacked
skbs lying around for ever. But for 2.6.12 I propose just supressing the
WARN_ON(). Users will still see the "NETDEV WATCHDOG" warning, but that's
not nearly as bad as a WARN_ON() which users interpret as an Oops.

Fix 5700/5701 DMA write corruption on Apple G4 by detecting the Apple
UniNorth PCI 1.5 chipset and adjusting the DMA write boundary to 16. DMA
test fails to detect the problem with this chipset.

On some 5701 devices with older bootcode, the LED configuration bits in
SRAM may be invalid with value zero. The fix is to check for invalid
bits (0) and default to PHY 1 mode. Incorrect LED mode will lead to
error in programming the PHY.

Add tg3_nvram_lock() and tg3_nvram_unlock() calls around tg3_halt_cpu().
It is possible that the bootcode may be loading code from nvram during
this call and stopping the cpu without getting the lock may cause
uncompleted nvram data to be left in the nvram data register. Subsequent
calls to read/write nvram data will fail.

Add a reset kind parameter to tg3_halt() so that the RESET_KIND_SUSPEND
parameter can be passed to tg3_halt() before doing offline tests.
All other calls to tg3_halt() will use the RESET_KIND_SHUTDOWN
parameter.

To tell if driver is configured for NAPI or not, put -NAPI on driver
version. Remove the NAPI printk since the complete version information
is displayed once in the pci probe routine or returned via ethtool.

The 'if' clause for ULI526X in tulip_mdio_write allows for

Extract DMA boundary bit selection into a seperate
function, tg3_calc_dma_bndry(). Call this from
tg3_test_dma().
Make DMA test more reliable by using no DMA boundry
setting during the test. If the test passes, then
use the setting we selected before the test.

Even though we do software interrupt mitigation
via NAPI, it still helps to have some minimal
hw assisted mitigation.
This helps, particularly, on systems where register
I/O overhead is much greater than the CPU horsepower.
For example, it helps on NUMA systems. In such cases
the PIO overhead to disable interrupts for NAPI accounts
for the majority of the packet processing cost. The
CPU is fast enough such that only a single packet is
processed by each NAPI poll call.

When supported, use the TAGGED interrupt processing support
the chip provides. In this mode, instead of a "on/off" binary
semaphore, an incrementing tag scheme is used to ACK interrupts.
All MSI supporting chips support TAGGED mode, so the tg3_msi()
interrupt handler uses it unconditionally. This invariant is
verified when MSI support is tested.
Since we can invoke tg3_poll() multiple times per interrupt under
high packet load, we fetch a new copy of the tag value in the
status block right before we actually do the work.
Also, because the tagged status tells the chip exactly which
work we have processed, we can make two optimizations:
1) tg3_restart_ints() need not check tg3_has_work()
2) the tg3_timer() need not poke the chip 10 times per
second to keep from losing interrupt events

This patch reduces the stack usage of the function smc91c92_event() in
smc91c92_cs driver from 3540 to 132. Currently this is the highest stack
user in linux-2.6.12-rc2-mm3. I used a patched version of gcc 3.4.3 on
i386 with -fno-unit-at-a-time disabled.
The patch has only been compile tested.

This has been a problem for me for ages. When using bridging, the driver
is switched into promiscuous mode before the link init is complete. The
init complete routine then resets the promisc bit on the card so the kernel
still thinks the card is in promiscuous mode but the card isn't. doh.
I think this bug only shows up in bridging when the bridge is started at
boot time (or something else that sets promisc at the same time the card
was started). If promisc is enabled later it works.
Here's a trivial (and hopefully correct) patch that works for me. It
just calls the promisc/multicast setup routine after init.

see ip-sysctl.txt updated or a new file on tuning recommendations started.
Some of them have consequences that aren't documented well.
For example, turning off TCP timestamps risks data corruption from sequence wrap.
A new driver shouldn't need so may #ifdef's unless you want to putit on older
vendor versions of 2.4
Some accessor and wrapper functions like:

are just annoying noise.

Driver modified as suggested by Pekka Enberg, Stephen Hemminger and Andrian
Bunk. Reduces the size of the driver to ~260k.
- clean up tabs
- removed my3126.c
- removed 85% of suni1x10gexp_regs.h
- removed 80% of regs.h
- removed various calls, renamed variables/functions.
- removed system specific and other wrappers (usleep, msleep)
- removed dead code
- dropped redundant casts in osdep.h
- dropped redundant check of kfree
- dropped weird code (MODVERSIONS stuff)
- reduced number of #ifdefs
- use kcalloc now instead of kmalloc
- Add information about known issues with the driver
- Add information about authors

This patch adds support for the davicom dm9000 network driver. The dm9000
is found on some embedded arm boards such as the pimx1 or the scb9328.

When running the loopback test, resources are not properly released on
completion. This patch frees all transmit resources after running the
loopback test. Tested on ia32 and ppc64 hardware.
