While chasing following warning from kconfig I noticed that the
kconfig preemption model symbols were all dependent on sparc64.
warning: (PREEMPT && DEBUG_ATOMIC_SLEEP) selects PREEMPT_COUNT which has unmet direct dependencies (SPARC64)
>From arch/sparc/Kconfig:

source "kernel/Kconfig.preempt"
endif
But looking a bit closer I see nothing obvious why
sparc32 should not support the various preemption models.
Drop the "if SPARC64" conditional to enable selection of
preemption model on sparc32 too.
Build-tested - but not run-time tested all three models.

There is no-one that really require atomic64_t support on sparc32.
But several drivers fails to build without proper atomic64 support.
And for an allyesconfig build for sparc32 this is annoying.
Include the generic atomic64_t support for sparc32.
This has a text footprint cost:
$size vmlinux (before atomic64_t support)
text data bss dec hex filename
3578860 134260 108781 3821901 3a514d vmlinux
$size vmlinux (after atomic64_t support)
text data bss dec hex filename
3579892 130684 108781 3819357 3a475d vmlinux
text increase (3579892 - 3578860) = 1032 bytes
data decreases - but I fail to explain why!
I have rebuild twice to check my numbers.

This silently was working for many years and stopped working on
Niagara-T3 machines.
We need to set the MSIQ to VALID before we can set it's state to IDLE.
On Niagara-T3, setting the state to IDLE first was causing HV_EINVAL
errors. The hypervisor documentation says, rather ambiguously, that
the MSIQ must be "initialized" before one can set the state.
I previously understood this to mean merely that a successful setconf()
operation has been performed on the MSIQ, which we have done at this
point. But it seems to also mean that it has been set VALID too.

This moves the 'cpu sysdev_class' over to a regular 'cpu' subsystem
and converts the devices to regular devices. The sysdev drivers are
implemented as subsystem interfaces now.
After all sysdev classes are ported to regular driver core entities, the
sysdev implementation will be entirely removed from the kernel.
Userspace relies on events and generic sysfs subsystem infrastructure
from sysdev devices, which are made available with this conversion.

Those two APIs were provided to optimize the calls of
tick_nohz_idle_enter() and rcu_idle_enter() into a single
irq disabled section. This way no interrupt happening in-between would
needlessly process any RCU job.
Now we are talking about an optimization for which benefits
have yet to be measured. Let's start simple and completely decouple
idle rcu and dyntick idle logics to simplify.

It is assumed that rcu won't be used once we switch to tickless
mode and until we restart the tick. However this is not always
true, as in x86-64 where we dereference the idle notifiers after
the tick is stopped.
To prepare for fixing this, add two new APIs:
tick_nohz_idle_enter_norcu() and tick_nohz_idle_exit_norcu().
If no use of RCU is made in the idle loop between
tick_nohz_enter_idle() and tick_nohz_exit_idle() calls, the arch
must instead call the new *_norcu() version such that the arch doesn't
need to call rcu_idle_enter() and rcu_idle_exit().
Otherwise the arch must call tick_nohz_enter_idle() and
tick_nohz_exit_idle() and also call explicitly:
- rcu_idle_enter() after its last use of RCU before the CPU is put
to sleep.
- rcu_idle_exit() before the first use of RCU after the CPU is woken
up.

The tick_nohz_stop_sched_tick() function, which tries to delay
the next timer tick as long as possible, can be called from two
places:
- From the idle loop to start the dytick idle mode
- From interrupt exit if we have interrupted the dyntick
idle mode, so that we reprogram the next tick event in
case the irq changed some internal state that requires this
action.
There are only few minor differences between both that
are handled by that function, driven by the ts->inidle
cpu variable and the inidle parameter. The whole guarantees
that we only update the dyntick mode on irq exit if we actually
interrupted the dyntick idle mode, and that we enter in RCU extended
quiescent state from idle loop entry only.
Split this function into:
- tick_nohz_idle_enter(), which sets ts->inidle to 1, enters
dynticks idle mode unconditionally if it can, and enters into RCU
extended quiescent state.
- tick_nohz_irq_exit() which only updates the dynticks idle mode
when ts->inidle is set (ie: if tick_nohz_idle_enter() has been called).
To maintain symmetry, tick_nohz_restart_sched_tick() has been renamed
into tick_nohz_idle_exit().
This simplifies the code and micro-optimize the irq exit path (no need
for local_irq_save there). This also prepares for the split between
dynticks and rcu extended quiescent state logics. We'll need this split to
further fix illegal uses of RCU in extended quiescent states in the idle
loop.

its inclusion from include/linux/memblock.h which breaks other
architectures which depended on the generic memblock.h pulling in the
arch specific one.
However, the proper fix isn't adding back the asm inclusion. memblock
doesn't have any arch dependent part and doesn't need arch specific
header file and asm/memblock.h files are either practically empty or
contain mostly unrelated arch specific stuff.
* In microblaze, sh, powerpc, sparc and openrisc, asm/memblock.h is
either empty or just contains unused MEMBLOCK_DBG() macro. Remove
them.
* In arm and unicore32, asm/memblock.h contains arch specific stuff.

As per the comments added by this commit, %g2 turns out to not be a
usable place to save away orig_i0 for syscall restart handling.
In fact all of %g2, %g3, %g4, and %g5 are assumed to be saved across
a system call by various bits of code in glibc.
%g1 can't be used because that holds the syscall number, which would
need to be saved and restored for syscall restart handling too, and
that would only compound our problems :-)
This leaves us with %g6 and %g7 which are for "system use". %g7 is
used as the "thread register" by glibc, but %g6 is used as a compiler
and assembler temporary scratch register. And in no instance is %g6
used to hold a value across a system call.
Therefore %g6 is safe for storing away orig_i0, at least for now.

Although we provide a proper way for a debugger to control whether
syscall restart occurs, we run into problems because orig_i0 is not
saved and restored properly.
Luckily we can solve this problem without having to make debuggers
aware of the issue. Across system calls, several registers are
considered volatile and can be safely clobbered.
Therefore we use the pt_regs save area of one of those registers, %g2,
as a place to save and restore orig_i0.
Debuggers transparently will do the right thing because they save and
restore this register already.

The 802.1X EAPOL handshake hostapd does requires
knowing whether the frame was ack'ed by the peer.
Currently, we fudge this pretty badly by not even
transmitting the frame as a normal data frame but
injecting it with radiotap and getting the status
out of radiotap monitor as well. This is rather
complex, confuses users (mon.wlan0 presence) and
doesn't work with all hardware.
To get rid of that hack, introduce a real wifi TX
status option for data frame transmissions.
This works similar to the existing TX timestamping
in that it reflects the SKB back to the socket's
error queue with a SCM_WIFI_STATUS cmsg that has
an int indicating ACK status (0/1).
Since it is possible that at some point we will
want to have TX timestamping and wifi status in a
single errqueue SKB (there's little point in not
doing that), redefine SO_EE_ORIGIN_TIMESTAMPING
to SO_EE_ORIGIN_TXSTATUS which can collect more
than just the timestamp; keep the old constant
as an alias of course. Currently the internal APIs
don't make that possible, but it wouldn't be hard
to split them up in a way that makes it possible.

- This fixes a bug where not all of the f_spare fields
were cleared on mips and s390.
- Add the f_flags field to struct compat_statfs
- Copy f_flags to userspace in case someone cares.
- Use __clear_user to copy the f_spare field to userspace
to ensure that all of the elements of f_spare are cleared.
On some architectures f_spare is has 5 ints and on some
architectures f_spare only has 4 ints. Which makes
the previous technique of clearing each int individually
broken.
I don't expect anyone actually uses the old statfs system

In the OF 'translations' property, the template TTEs in the mappings
never specify the executable bit. This is the case even though some
of these mappings are for OF's code segment.
Therefore, we need to force the execute bit on in every mapping.
This problem can only really trigger on Niagara/sun4v machines and the
history behind this is a little complicated.
Previous to sun4v, the sun4u TTE entries lacked a hardware execute
permission bit. So OF didn't have to ever worry about setting
anything to handle executable pages. Any valid TTE loaded into the
I-TLB would be respected by the chip.
But sun4v Niagara chips have a real hardware enforced executable bit
in their TTEs. So it has to be set or else the I-TLB throws an
instruction access exception with type code 6 (protection violation).
We've been extremely fortunate to not get bitten by this in the past.
The best I can tell is that the OF's mappings for it's executable code
were mapped using permanent locked mappings on sun4v in the past.
Therefore, the fact that we didn't have the exec bit set in the OF
translations we would use did not matter in practice.
Thanks to Greg Onufer for helping me track this down.

If "-p" is given on the command line, clear the CON_BOOT
flag for the initial early boot PROM console.
This is necessary to try and see crash messages that occur
between the registry of the VT console and the probing of
the first framebuffer or serial console. During this time
no console messages are emitted because the VT console
registry (even if no backend is registered to it) removes
the early console if CON_BOOT is set.

On Sun4d systems running in SMP mode, IRQ 14 is used for timer interrupts
and has a specialized interrupt handler. IPI is currently set to use IRQ 14
as well, which causes it to trigger the timer interrupt handler, and not the
IPI interrupt handler.
The IPI interrupt is therefore changed to IRQ 13, which is the highest
normally handled interrupt. This IRQ is also used for SBUS interrupts,
however there is nothing in the IPI/SBUS interrupt handlers that indicate
that they will not handle sharing the interrupt.
(IRQ 13 is indicated as audio interrupt, which is unlikely to be found in a
sun4d system)

The sparc32 version of arch_write_unlock() is just a plain assignment.
Unfortunately this allows the compiler to schedule side-effects in a
protected region to occur after the HW-level unlock, which is broken.
E.g., the following trivial test case gets miscompiled:
#include <linux/spinlock.h>
rwlock_t lock;
int counter;
void foo(void) { write_lock(&lock); ++counter; write_unlock(&lock); }
Fixed by adding a compiler memory barrier to arch_write_unlock(). The
sparc64 version combines the barrier and assignment into a single asm(),
and implements the operation as a static inline, so that's what I did too.

The sparc64 spinlock_64.h contains a number of operations defined
first as static inline functions, and then as macros with the same
names and parameters as the functions. Maybe this was needed at
some point in the past, but now nothing seems to depend on these
macros (checked with a recursive grep looking for ifdefs on these
names). Other archs don't define these identity-macros.
So this patch deletes these unnecessary macros.

cmpxchg() is widely used by lockless code, including NMI-safe lockless
code. But on some architectures, the cmpxchg() implementation is not
NMI-safe, on these architectures the lockless code may need a
spin_trylock_irqsave() based implementation.
This patch adds a Kconfig option: ARCH_HAVE_NMI_SAFE_CMPXCHG, so that
NMI-safe lockless code can depend on it or provide different
implementation according to it.
On many architectures, cmpxchg is only NMI-safe for several specific
operand sizes. So, ARCH_HAVE_NMI_SAFE_CMPXCHG define in this patch
only guarantees cmpxchg is NMI-safe for sizeof(unsigned long).

The cpu compatible string we look for is "SPARC-T3".
As far as memset/memcpy optimizations go, we treat this chip the same
as Niagara-T2/T2+. Use cache initializing stores for memset, and use
perfetch, FPU block loads, cache initializing stores, and block stores
for copies.
We use the Niagara-T2 perf support, since T3 is a close relative in
this regard. Later we'll add support for the new events T3 can
report, plus enable T3's new "sample" mode.
For now I haven't added any new ELF hwcap flags. We probably need
to add a couple, for example:
T2 and T3 both support the population count instruction in hardware.
T3 supports VIS3 instructions, including support (finally) for
partitioned shift. One can also now move directly between float
and integer registers.
T3 supports instructions meant to help with Galois Field and other HPC
calculations, such as XOR multiply. Also there are "OP and negate"
instructions, for example "fnmul" which is multiply-and-negate.
T3 recognizes the transactional memory opcodes, however since
transactional memory isn't supported: 1) 'commit' behaves as a NOP and
2) 'chkpt' always branches 3) 'rdcps' returns all zeros and 4) 'wrcps'
behaves as a NOP.
So we'll need about 3 new elf capability flags in the end to represent
all of these things.

without a prototype. This patches moves the code that includes
asm-generic/atomic*.h to linux/atomic.h.
Archs that need <asm-generic/atomic64.h> need to select
CONFIG_GENERIC_ATOMIC64 from now on (some of them used to include it
unconditionally).

memblock_nid_range() is used to implement memblock_[try_]alloc_nid().
The generic version determines the range by walking early_node_map
with for_each_mem_pfn_range(). The generic version is defined __weak
to allow arch override.
Currently, only sparc overrides it; however, with the previous update
to the generic implementation, there isn't much to be gained with arch
override. Sparc would behave exactly the same with the generic
implementation.
This patch disallows arch override for memblock_nid_range() and make
both generic and sparc versions static.
sparc is only compile tested.

I'm fairly sure ARM can leave it like that since it doesn't strike me as

it does appear to have some NUMA bits.

The nmi parameter indicated if we could do wakeups from the current
context, if not, we would set some state and self-IPI and let the
resulting interrupt do the wakeup.
For the various event classes:
- hardware: nmi=0; PMI is in fact an NMI or we run irq_work_run from
the PMI-tail (ARM etc.)
- tracepoint: nmi=0; since tracepoint could be from NMI context.
- software: nmi=[0,1]; some, like the schedule thing cannot
perform wakeups, and hence need 0.
As one can see, there is very little nmi=1 usage, and the down-side of
not using it is that on some platforms some software events can have a
jiffy delay in wakeup (when arch_irq_work_raise isn't implemented).
The up-side however is that we can remove the nmi parameter and save a
bunch of conditionals in fast paths.

commit 21a3c96 uses node_start/end_pfn(nid) for detection start/end
of nodes. But, it's not defined in linux/mmzone.h but defined in
/arch/???/include/mmzone.h which is included only under
CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES=y.
Then, we see
mm/page_cgroup.c: In function 'page_cgroup_init':
mm/page_cgroup.c:308: error: implicit declaration of function 'node_start_pfn'
mm/page_cgroup.c:309: error: implicit declaration of function 'node_end_pfn'
So, fixiing page_cgroup.c is an idea...
But node_start_pfn()/node_end_pfn() is a very generic macro and
should be implemented in the same manner for all archs.
(m32r has different implementation...)
This patch removes definitions of node_start/end_pfn() in each archs
and defines a unified one in linux/mmzone.h. It's not under
CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES, now.
A result of macro expansion is here (mm/page_cgroup.c)
for !NUMA
start_pfn = ((&contig_page_data)->node_start_pfn);
end_pfn = ({ pg_data_t *__pgdat = (&contig_page_data); __pgdat->node_start_pfn + __pgdat->node_spanned_pages;});
for NUMA (x86-64)
start_pfn = ((node_data[nid])->node_start_pfn);
end_pfn = ({ pg_data_t *__pgdat = (node_data[nid]); __pgdat->node_start_pfn + __pgdat->node_spanned_pages;});
Changelog:
- fixed to avoid using "nid" twice in node_end_pfn() macro.

powerpc has two different ways of matching PCI devices to their
corresponding OF node (if any) for historical reasons. The ppc64 one
does a scan looking for matching bus/dev/fn, while the ppc32 one does a
scan looking only for matching dev/fn on each level in order to be
agnostic to busses being renumbered (which Linux does on some
platforms).
This removes both and instead moves the matching code to the PCI core
itself. It's the most logical place to do it: when a pci_dev is created,
we know the parent and thus can do a single level scan for the matching
device_node (if any).
The benefit is that all archs now get the matching for free. There's one
hook the arch might want to provide to match a PHB bus to its device
node. A default weak implementation is provided that looks for the
parent device device node, but it's not entirely reliable on powerpc for
various reasons so powerpc provides its own.

Some devices that can generate interrupts are connected directly to the

During the introduction of genirq on sparc32 bugs were introduced in
the interrupt handler for sun4d. The interrupts handler checks the status
of the various sbus interfaces in the system and generates a virtual
interrupt, based upon the location of the interrupt source. This lookup
was broken by restructuring the code in such a way that index and shift
operations were performed prior to comparing this against the values
read from the interrupt controllers.
This could cause the handler to loop eternally as the interrupt source
could be skipped before any check was performed. Additionally
sun4d_encode_irq performs shifting internally, so it should not be performed
twice.
In sun4d_unmask interrupts were not correctly acknowledged, as the
corresponding bit it the interrupt mask was not actually cleared.

sun4d_build_device_irq was called without a valid platform_device when
the system timer was initialized on sun4d systems. This caused a NULL
pointer crash.
Josip Rodin suggested that the current sun4d_build_device_irq should be
split into two functions. So that the timer initialization could skip
the slot and sbus interface detection code in sun4d_build_device_irq, as
this does not make sence due to the timer interrupts not being generated
from a device located on sbus.

The DMA region must be accessible in order for PCI peripheral
drivers to work, the sparc32 has DMA in the normal memory
zone which requires the GRPCI2 to PCI target BARs so that all
kernel low mem (192MB) can be mapped 1:1 to PCI address
space. The GRPCI2 has resizeable target BARs, by default the
first is made 256MB and all other BARs are disabled.
I/O space are always located on 0x1000-0x10000, but accessed
through the GRPCI2 PCI I/O Window memory mapped to virtual
address space.
Configuration space is accessed through the 64KB GRPCI2 PCI
CFG Window using LDA bypassing the MMU.
The GRPCI2 has a single PCI Window for prefetchable and non-
prefetchable address space, it is up to the AHB master
requesting PCI data to determine access type. Memory space
is mapped 1:1.
The GRPCI2 core can be configured in 4 different IRQ modes,
where PCI Interrupt, Error Interrupt and DMA Interrupt are
shared on a single IRQ line or at most 5 IRQs are used. The
GRPCI2 can mask/unmask PCI interrupts, Err and DMA in the control
and check status bits which tells us which IRQ really happended.
The GENIRQ layer is used to unmask/mask each individual IRQ
source by creating virtual IRQs and implementing a IRQ chip.
The optional DMA functionality of the GRPCI2 is not supported
by this patch.

32bit and 64bit on x86 are tested and working. The rest I have looked
at closely and I can't find any problems.
setns is an easy system call to wire up. It just takes two ints so I
don't expect any weird architecture porting problems.
While doing this I have noticed that we have some architectures that are
very slow to get new system calls. cris seems to be the slowest where
the last system calls wired up were preadv and pwritev. avr32 is weird
in that recvmmsg was wired up but never declared in unistd.h. frv is
behind with perf_event_open being the last syscall wired up. On h8300
the last system call wired up was epoll_wait. On m32r the last system
call wired up was fallocate. mn10300 has recvmmsg as the last system
call wired up. The rest seem to at least have syncfs wired up which was
new in the 2.6.39.

v3: ported to v2.6.36-rc4 by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com>

v5: ported to v2.6.39-rc6

v7: ported to Linus's latest post 2.6.39 tree.

Most arches define CONFIG_DEBUG_STACK_USAGE exactly the same way. Move it
to lib/Kconfig.debug so each arch doesn't have to define it. This
obviously makes the option generic, but that's fine because the config is
already used in generic code.
It's not obvious to me that sysrq-P actually does anything caution by
keeping the most inclusive wording.

Rework the sparc mmu_gather usage to conform to the new world order :-)
Sparc mmu_gather does two things:
- tracks vaddrs to unhash
- tracks pages to free
Split these two things like powerpc has done and keep the vaddrs
in per-cpu data structures and flush them on context switch.
The remaining bits can then use the generic mmu_gather.

Architectures that implement their own show_mem() function did not pass
the filter argument to show_free_areas() to appropriately avoid emitting
the state of nodes that are disallowed in the current context. This patch
now passes the filter argument to show_free_areas() so those nodes are now
avoided.
This patch also removes the show_free_areas() wrapper around
__show_free_areas() and converts existing callers to pass an empty filter.
ia64 emits additional information for each node, so skip_free_areas_zone()
must be made global to filter disallowed nodes and it is converted to use
a nid argument rather than a zone for this use case.

Commit b826291c, "drivercore/dt: add a match table pointer to struct
device" added an of_match pointer to struct device to cache the
of_match_table entry discovered at driver match time. This was unsafe
because matching is not an atomic operation with probing a driver. If
two or more drivers are attempted to be matched to a driver at the
same time, then the cached matching entry pointer could get
overwritten.
This patch reverts the of_match cache pointer and reworks all users to
call of_match_device() directly instead.

The function mmu_inval_dma_area takes a virtual address as a parameter
which is problematic in case the buffer is located in highmem and the
mapping currently is unavailable.
Since the function was only implemented for LEON this patch removes
calls to it in non LEON code paths and renames it to dma_make_coherent
which instead takes a physical address (which for now is unused since we
flush the whole cache). This way it is possible to remove several unnecessary
calls to page_address which will fail if the virtual mapping is unavailable.

Adapt new API. Almost change is trivial, most important change are to
remove following like =operator.
cpumask_t cpu_mask = *mm_cpumask(mm);
cpus_allowed = current->cpus_allowed;
Because cpumask_var_t is =operator unsafe. These usage might prevent
kernel core improvement.

The sun4d does not seem to have a distingstion between soft and hard
IRQs. When generating IPIs the generated IRQ looks like a hard IRQ,
this patch adds a "IPI check" in the sun4d irq trap handler at a
predefined IRQ number (SUN4D_IPI_IRQ). Before generating an IPI
a per-cpu memory structure is modified for the "IPI check" to
successfully detect a IPI request to a specific processor, the check
clears the IPI work requested.
All three IPIs (resched, single and cpu-mask) use the same IRQ
number.
The IPI IRQ should preferrably be on a separate IRQ and definitly
not shared with IRQ handlers requesting IRQ with IRQF_SHARED.

Implement the three IPIs (resched, single and cpu-mask) generation
and interrupt handler catch. The sun4m has 15 soft-IRQs and three
of them is used with this patch, the three IPIs was previously
implemented with the cross-call IRQ15 which does not work with
locking routines such as spinlocks because IRQ15 is NMI, it may
cause deadlock.
The IRQ trap handler code assumes (in the same spritit as the old
it seems) that hard interrupts will be generated until handled
(level), when a IRQ happens the IRQ pending register is checked
for pending soft-IRQs. When both hard and soft IRQ happens at the
same time only soft-IRQs are handled.
The old code implemented a soft-IRQ traphandler at IRQ14 which
called smp_reschedule_irq which in turn called set_need_resched.
It seems to be an old relic and is replaced with the interrupt
traphander exit code RESTORE_ALL, it calls schedule() when
appropriate.

This patch implements SMP IPIs on LEON using software generated
IRQs to signal between CPUs.
The IPI IRQ number is set by using the ipi_num property in the
device tree, or defaults to 13. LEON SMP systems should reserve
IRQ 13 (and IRQ 15) to Linux in order for the defaults to work.

The current sparc32 SMP IPI generation is implemented the
cross call function. The cross call function uses IRQ15 the
NMI, this is has the effect that IPIs will interrupt IRQ
critical areas and hang the system. Typically on/after
spin_lock_irqsave calls can be aborted.
The cross call functionality must still exist to flush
cache/TLBS.
This patch provides CPU models a custom way to implement
generation of IPIs on the generic code's request. The
typical approach is to generate an IRQ for each IPI case.
After this patch each sparc32 SMP CPU model needs to
implement IPIs in order to function properly.

When we are in the label cc_dword_align, registers %o0 and %o1 have the same last 2 bits,
but it's not guaranteed one of them is zero. So we can get unaligned memory access
in label ccte. Example of parameters which lead to this:
%o0=0x7ff183e9, %o1=0x8e709e7d, %g1=3
With the parameters I had a memory corruption, when the additional 5 bytes were rewritten.

boot_cpu_id was initialized before BSS was cleared in

The LEON interrupt controller has one single mask register for all
IRQs per CPU, even though the genirq layer protects us from accessing
the same IRQ at the same time other IRQs share the same mask register
and may thus interfere. Some other IRQ controllers has a mask register
or similar per IRQ instead which makes spinlocks unncessary.

For future rework of try_to_wake_up() we'd like to push part of that
function onto the CPU the task is actually going to run on.
In order to do so we need a generic callback from the existing scheduler IPI.
This patch introduces such a generic callback: scheduler_ipi() and
implements it as a NOP.
BenH notes: PowerPC might use this IPI on offline CPUs under rare conditions!

Introduce:
static __always_inline bool static_branch(struct jump_label_key *key);
instead of the old JUMP_LABEL(key, label) macro.
In this way, jump labels become really easy to use:
Define:
struct jump_label_key jump_key;
Can be used as:
if (static_branch(&jump_key))
do unlikely code
enable/disale via:
jump_label_inc(&jump_key);
jump_label_dec(&jump_key);
that's it!
For the jump labels disabled case, the static_branch() becomes an
atomic_read(), and jump_label_inc()/dec() are simply atomic_inc(),
atomic_dec() operations. We show testing results for this change below.
Thanks to H. Peter Anvin for suggesting the 'static_branch()' construct.
Since we now require a 'struct jump_label_key *key', we can store a pointer into
the jump table addresses. In this way, we can enable/disable jump labels, in
basically constant time. This change allows us to completely remove the previous
hashtable scheme. Thanks to Peter Zijlstra for this re-write.
Testing:
I ran a series of 'tbench 20' runs 5 times (with reboots) for 3
configurations, where tracepoints were disabled.

Fix all of the problems spotted by CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH under
arch/sparc during a 64-bit defconfig build.
They fall into two categorites:
1) of_device_id is marked as __initdata, and we can never do this
since these objects sit in the device core data structures way
past boot. So even if a driver will never be reloaded, we have
to keep the device ID table around.
Mark such cases const instead.
2) The bootmem alloc/free handling code in mdesc.c was not fully
marked __init as it should be, thus generating a reference
to free_bootmem_late() (which is __init) from non-__init code.

Make use of the new features in genirq:
1) Set the chip flag IRCHIP_EOI_IF_HANDLED, which ensures in the
core code that irq_eoi() is only called when the interrupt was
handled. That removes the extra status check in the callback.
2) Use the preflow handler, which is called from the fasteoi core code
before the device handler. That avoids another status check and the
open coded handler redirection.

Commit ddd588b5dd ("oom: suppress nodes that are not allowed from
meminfo on oom kill") moved lib/show_mem.o out of lib/lib.a, which
resulted in build warnings on all architectures that implement their own
versions of show_mem():
lib/lib.a(show_mem.o): In function `show_mem':
show_mem.c:(.text+0x1f4): multiple definition of `show_mem'
arch/sparc/mm/built-in.o:(.text+0xd70): first defined here
The fix is to remove __show_mem() and add its argument to show_mem() in
all implementations to prevent this breakage.
Architectures that implement their own show_mem() actually don't do
anything with the argument yet, but they could be made to filter nodes
that aren't allowed in the current context in the future just like the
generic implementation.

During the preparation for testing the recent changes made to the SUN4D
specific code in the kernel by Sam Ravnborg the following was discovered:
Since the removal of of_platform_bus_type (commit: eca3930163 )
multiboard SUN4Ds have not been able to boot. The kernel crashes due to a
zero-pointer error encountered when registering multiple M48T59 RTCs
(There is one on each board).
A patch for the was previously submitted, but the problem was not a
serious at that time, as it would only generate warnings. Now the kernel
will crash and stop executing before the serial console has been started.

Percpu allocator honors alignment request upto PAGE_SIZE and both the
percpu addresses in the percpu address space and the translated kernel
addresses should be aligned accordingly. The calculation of the
former depends on the alignment of percpu output section in the kernel
image.
The linker script macros PERCPU_VADDR() and PERCPU() are used to
define this output section and the latter takes @align parameter.
Several architectures are using @align smaller than PAGE_SIZE breaking
percpu memory alignment.
This patch removes @align parameter from PERCPU(), renames it to
PERCPU_SECTION() and makes it always align to PAGE_SIZE. While at it,
add PCPU_SETUP_BUG_ON() checks such that alignment problems are
reliably detected and remove percpu alignment comment recently added
in workqueue.c as the condition would trigger BUG way before reaching
there.
For um, this patch raises the alignment of percpu area. As the area
is in .init, there shouldn't be any noticeable difference.

failure on mn10300.

minix bit operations are only used by minix filesystem and useless by
other modules. Because byte order of inode and block bitmaps is different
on each architecture like below:
m68k:
big-endian 16bit indexed bitmaps
h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu:
big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps
m32r, mips, sh, xtensa:
big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps for big-endian mode
little-endian bitmaps for little-endian mode
Others:
little-endian bitmaps
In order to move minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h to architecture
independent code in minix filesystem, this provides two config options.
CONFIG_MINIX_FS_BIG_ENDIAN_16BIT_INDEXED is only selected by m68k.
CONFIG_MINIX_FS_NATIVE_ENDIAN is selected by the architectures which use
native byte order bitmaps (h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu,
m32r, mips, sh, xtensa). The architectures which always use little-endian
bitmaps do not select these options.
Finally, we can remove minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h for all
architectures.

A recent patch to the x86 randomization code caused me to take
a quick look at what we do on sparc64, and in doing so I noticed
that we sometimes calculate a non-page-aligned randomization value
and stick it into mmap_base.
I also noticed that since I copied the logic over from PowerPC,
the powerpc code has tweaked the randomization ranges in ways that
would benefit us as well.
For one thing, we should allow up to at least 8MB of randomization
otherwise huge-page regions when HPAGE_SIZE is 4MB never randomize
at all.
And on the 64-bit side we were using up to 4GB. Tone it down to
1GB as 4GB can result in a lot of address space wastage.

The cmpxchg_futex_value_locked API was funny in that it returned either
the original, user-exposed futex value OR an error code such as -EFAULT.
This was confusing at best, and could be a source of livelocks in places
that retry the cmpxchg_futex_value_locked after trying to fix the issue
by running fault_in_user_writeable().
This change makes the cmpxchg_futex_value_locked API more similar to the
get_futex_value_locked one, returning an error code and updating the
original value through a reference argument.

Doing NMI startup as an early initcall doesn't work because we need
to have SMP started up by then.
So we'd only NMI startup one cpu, which causes perf PMU grab to
BUG because the nmi_active count isn't what it's supposed to be.
This also points out that we don't have proper CPU up/down notifiers
for the NMI code which will need to be fixed at some point.

iommu_alloc_ctx() finds a zero bit in iommu->ctx_bitmap. It starts
searching from iommu->ctx_lowest_free to the end of the bitmap.
But the size argument to find_next_zero_bit() in iommu_alloc_ctx()
is wrong. It should be the bitmap size, not the maximum size to
search from the offset argument.
Fortunately iommu->ctx_lowest_free is almost unused and it will not
be more than 1. So the bug wasted only 1-bit at the end of
iommu->ctx_bitmap.

Four architectures (arm, mips, sparc, x86) use __vmalloc_area() for
module_init(). Much of the code is duplicated and can be generalized in a
globally accessible function, __vmalloc_node_range().
__vmalloc_node() now calls into __vmalloc_node_range() with a range of
[VMALLOC_START, VMALLOC_END) for functionally equivalent behavior.
Each architecture may then use __vmalloc_node_range() directly to remove
the duplication of code.

sparc64 systems have a restriction in that passing in buffer
addressses above 4GB to prom calls is not reliable.
We end up violating this when we do prom console writes, because we
use an on-stack buffer to translate '\n' into '\r\n'.
So instead, do this translation into an intermediate buffer, which is
in the kernel image and thus below 4GB, then pass that to the PROM
console write calls.
On the 32-bit side we don't have to deal with any of these issues, so
the new prom_console_write_buf() uses the existing prom_nbputchar()
implementation. However we can now mark those routines static.
Since the 64-bit side completely uses new code we can delete the
putchar bits as they are now completely unused.

This gets us closer to being able to eliminate the use
of dynamic and stack based buffers, so that we can adhere

The perf hardware pmu got initialized at various points in the boot,
some before early_initcall() some after (notably arch_initcall).
The problem is that the NMI lockup detector is ran from early_initcall()
and expects the hardware pmu to be present.
Sanitize this by moving all architecture hardware pmu implementations to
initialize at early_initcall() and move the lockup detector to an explicit
initcall right after that.

fb_{read,write} access the framebuffer using lots of fb_{read,write}l's
but don't check that the file position is aligned which can cause problems
on some architectures which do not support unaligned accesses.
Since the operations are essentially memcpy_{from,to}io, new
fb_memcpy_{from,to}fb macros have been defined and these are used instead.
For Sparc, fb_{read,write} macros use sbus_{read,write}, so this defines
new sbus_memcpy_{from,to}io functions the same as memcpy_{from,to}io but
using sbus_{read,write}b instead of {read,write}b.

Christoph reported a nice splat which illustrated a race in the new stack
based kmap_atomic implementation.
The problem is that we pop our stack slot before we're completely done
resetting its state -- in particular clearing the PTE (sometimes that's
CONFIG_DEBUG_HIGHMEM). If an interrupt happens before we actually clear
the PTE used for the last slot, that interrupt can reuse the slot in a
dirty state, which triggers a BUG in kmap_atomic().
Fix this by introducing kmap_atomic_idx() which reports the current slot
index without actually releasing it and use that to find the PTE and delay
the _pop() until after we're completely done.

Keep the current interface but ignore the KM_type and use a stack based
approach.
The advantage is that we get rid of crappy code like:
#define __KM_PTE \
(in_nmi() ? KM_NMI_PTE : \
in_irq() ? KM_IRQ_PTE : \
KM_PTE0)
and in general can stop worrying about what context we're in and what kmap
slots might be appropriate for that.
The downside is that FRV kmap_atomic() gets more expensive.
For now we use a CPP trick suggested by Andrew:
#define kmap_atomic(page, args...) __kmap_atomic(page)
to avoid having to touch all kmap_atomic() users in a single patch.

When the rett stack checking code sees the stack is unaligned (in both
the sun4c and srmmu cases) it jumps to the window fault-in path.
But that just tries to page the stack pages in, it doesn't do anything
special if the stack is misaligned.
Therefore we essentially just loop forever in the trap return path.
Fix this by emitting a SIGILL in the stack fault-in code if the stack
is mis-aligned.
