Gabriele Svelto 15adf94f4d Bug 1348273 - Convert crash annotations into a machine-readable list of constants; r=ted.mielczarek,njn,dholbert,mak,cpearce,mcmanus,froydnj,Dexter,jrmuizel,jchen,jimm,bz,surkov
This introduces the machinery needed to generate crash annotations from a YAML
file. The relevant C++ functions are updated to take a typed enum. JavaScript
calls are unaffected but they will throw if the string argument does not
correspond to one of the known entries in the C++ enum. The existing whitelists
and blacklists of annotations are also generated from the YAML file and all
duplicate code related to them has been consolidated. Once written out to the
.extra file the annotations are converted in string form and are no different
than the existing ones.

All existing annotations have been included in the list (and some obsolete ones
have been removed) and all call sites have been updated including tests where
appropriate.

Tarek Ziadé 2ad736aa2e Bug 1447931 - NetworkActivity becomes IOActivity - r=baku,mak,valentin
Generalizes NetworkActivity so it can be used for sockets but also disk files.
The host/port data becomes a single location string prefixed with socket://
or file:// and we're not using the FD as the identifier anymore.

IOActivityMonitor is now used in three places:

- nsFileStreams for plain files
- TelemetryVFS for sqlite files
- nsSocketTransport & nsUDPSocket for UDP & TCP sockets

Markus Stange bf590995b7 Bug 1462784 - Remove the STORAGE category. r=njn
This was used to label IndexedDB work and work in storage/mozStorage*.
I don't think this deserves its own category; categories are most useful for
the main thread, and most of the time-consuming database-related work happens
on helper threads. The main thread pieces are mostly for asynchronicity-
coordination and don't usually take up time.

This patch labels IndexedDB work as DOM instead (which is maybe debatable) and
the rest as OTHER.

Andrew Sutherland cac42cb9b5 Bug 1422327 - Clean up storage::Connection::Release. r=mak
Because of the storage::Service's connection list, it's possible for the
refcount for a non-main-thread Connection to experience transient increases
and decreases at any time, dooming logic in Release() that assumes the
refcount isn't changing.

This patch adopts use of an Atomic<bool> so that we execute cleanup logic
exactly once when the refcount falls to 1 at some point. Care is taken to
ensure that the failsafe Close() occurs on the correct thread.

SpinningSynchronousClose() is still dangerous and can still potentially
nest deeply on the stack. If we see instances of that in the future, we
may want to adopt use of PushEventQueue so that we can avoid re-entrancy
in our event loop spinning.

Andrew McCreight 5dec0e0beb Bug 1432992, part 1 - Remove definitions of Ci, Cr, Cc, and Cu. r=florian
This patch was autogenerated by my decomponents.py

It covers almost every file with the extension js, jsm, html, py,
xhtml, or xul.

It removes blank lines after removed lines, when the removed lines are
preceded by either blank lines or the start of a new block. The "start
of a new block" is defined fairly hackily: either the line starts with
//, ends with */, ends with {, <![CDATA[, """ or '''. The first two
cover comments, the third one covers JS, the fourth covers JS embedded
in XUL, and the final two cover JS embedded in Python. This also
applies if the removed line was the first line of the file.

It covers the pattern matching cases like "var {classes: Cc,
interfaces: Ci, utils: Cu, results: Cr} = Components;". It'll remove
the entire thing if they are all either Ci, Cr, Cc or Cu, or it will
remove the appropriate ones and leave the residue behind. If there's
only one behind, then it will turn it into a normal, non-pattern
matching variable definition. (For instance, "const { classes: Cc,
Constructor: CC, interfaces: Ci, utils: Cu } = Components" becomes
"const CC = Components.Constructor".)

Kris Maglione a75561bd62 Bug 1412726: Clean up XPCOM singleton constructor refcount handling. r=froydnj
This is a follow-up to bug 1409249. There are a lot of places where our
factory singleton constructors either don't correctly handle their returned
references being released by the component manager, or do handle it, but in
ways that are not obvious.

This patch handles a few places where we can sometimes wind up with dangling
singleton pointers, adds some explanatory comments and sanity check
assertions, and replaces some uses of manual refcounting with StaticRefPtr and
ClearOnShutdown.

There are still some places where we may wind up with odd behavior if the
first QI for a getService call fails. In those cases, we wind up destroying
the first instance of a service that we create, and re-creating a new one
later.

Kris Maglione 257d9118dc Bug 1409249: Require singleton constructors to return explicit already_AddRefed. r=froydnj
Right now, NS_GENERIC_FACTORY_SINGLETON_CONSTRUCTOR expects singleton
constructors to return already-addrefed raw pointers, and while it accepts
constructors that return already_AddRefed, most existing don't do so.

Meanwhile, the convention elsewhere is that a raw pointer return value is
owned by the callee, and that the caller needs to addref it if it wants to
keep its own reference to it.

The difference in convention makes it easy to leak (I've definitely caused
more than one shutdown leak this way), so it would be better if we required
the singleton getters to return an explicit already_AddRefed, which would
behave the same for all callers.

This also cleans up several singleton constructors that left a dangling
pointer to their singletons when their initialization methods failed, when
they released their references without clearing their global raw pointers.

This patch parameterizes nsAuto[C]String, renames them as nsAuto[C]StringN, and
redefines nsAuto[C]String as typedefs for nsAuto[C]StringN<64>.

(The alternative would be to templatize nsAuto[C]String and use a default

Nicholas Nethercote 58786e1ea7 Bug 1375392 - Tweak the PROFILER_LABEL* macros. r=mstange.
This patch makes the following changes to the macros.

- Removes PROFILER_LABEL_FUNC. It's only suitable for use in functions outside
  classes, due to PROFILER_FUNCTION_NAME not getting class names, and it was
  mostly misused.

- Removes PROFILER_FUNCTION_NAME. It's no longer used, and __func__ is
  universally available now anyway.

- Combines the first two string literal arguments of PROFILER_LABEL and
  PROFILER_LABEL_DYNAMIC into a single argument. There was no good reason for
  them to be separate, and it forced a '::' in the label, which isn't always
  appropriate. Also, the meaning of the "name_space" argument was interpreted
  in an interesting variety of ways.

- Adds an "AUTO_" prefix to PROFILER_LABEL and PROFILER_LABEL_DYNAMIC, to make
  it clearer they construct RAII objects rather than just being function calls.
  (I myself have screwed up the scoping because of this in the past.)

- Fills in the 'js::ProfileEntry::Category::' qualifier within the macro, so
  the caller doesn't need to. This makes a *lot* more of the uses fit onto a
  single line.

The patch also makes the following changes to the macro uses (beyond those
required by the changes described above).

- Fixes a bunch of labels that had gotten out of sync with the name of the
  class and/or function that encloses them.

- Removes a useless PROFILER_LABEL use within a trivial scope in
  EventStateManager::DispatchMouseOrPointerEvent(). It clearly wasn't serving
  any useful purpose. It also serves as extra evidence that the AUTO_ prefix is
  a good idea.

- Tweaks DecodePool::SyncRunIf{Preferred,Possible} so that the labelling is
  done within them, instead of at their callsites, because that's a more
  standard way of doing things.

Introduce a new SpinningSynchronousClose API that allows to synchronously close

This is expected to be used rarely in particular cases like database corruption.
It is currently [noscript] since the only consumer is cpp, in the future we can
evaluate removing that, if we find more uses for it.

Marco Bonardo 1d88de7d2f Bug 1371945 - Avoid a possible thread-safety problem with unfinalized statements. r=asuth
Avoids a thread-safety race condition on shutdown where we could try to finalize a statement twice.
Allows the async thread to be referenced until ShutdownAsyncThread, so async finalizers can make use of it.
Removes the no more useful mAsyncExecutionThreadIsAlive.
Nullifies the sqlite3_mutex pointer when the connection is closed, since it would be a dangling pointer.
Use a ScopeExit to ensure the connection and the mutex pointers are always nullified on failure.
Makes asyncClose bailout early if a Close method was already invoked before.
Makes AsyncInitDatabase not use AsyncClose to just shutdown the async thread.
Fixes various unfinalized statements in consumers code.
Makes mConnectionClosed better follow mDBConn status.
Replaces some mutex locking isClosed() calls with lockless isConnectionReadyOnThisThread.

David Major dc67bfc9a3 Bug 1344629 - Part 6: Rewrite unnecessary uses of nsLiteralString. r=dbaron
There's an antipattern where nsLiteralString is used as an unnecessary intermediary in converting from CharT* to CharT*,
e.g. CallAFunctionThatTakesACharPointer(NS_LITERAL_CSTRING("foo").get());
or
NS_NAMED_LITERAL_STRING(foo, "abc");
CallAFunctionThatTakesACharPointer(foo.get());

This patch rewrites the callsites that can be trivially changed to use char*/char16_t*.

I'd somewhat like to remove nsTLiteralString::get() altogether, but in code that's less straightforward than these examples, get() is useful enough to keep.

Nicholas Nethercote bf48aecf29 Bug 1332172 - Remove XPC_MAP_WANT_*. r=mccr8.
nsIXPCScriptable flags handling in xpc_map_end.h is a bit of a mess.

- Half the flags relate to whether various functions are defined (PreCreate,
  GetProperty, etc). These are set using the XPC_MAP_WANT_* macros;
  for each one xpc_map_end.h inserts the corresponding flag using the
  preprocessor (see XPC_MAP_CLASSNAME::GetScriptableFlags()).

- The other half of the flags relate to other things (IS_GLOBAL_OBJECT,
  DONT_REFLECT_INTERFACE_NAMES, etc). These are set using the XPC_MAP_FLAGS
  macro.

Having two similar but different mechanisms to set the flags for a class is
confusing. (Indeed, until recently we had some classes where a single flag was
redundantly specified via both mechanisms.) Note also that the classes done in
dom/base/nsIDOMClassInfo.h also specify all the flags in a single value,
similar to how XPC_MAP_FLAGS works.

This patch removes the XPC_MAP_WANT_* macros. All flags are now set
via XPC_MAP_FLAGS. This is a significant simplification to xpc_map_end.h and
all the places that use it.

The downside of this change is that I had to change the flag constants from
class constants (i.e. nsIXPCScriptable::FOO) to macros (i.e.
NSIXPCSCRIPTABLE_FOO) because they need to be used in #if statements like this
in xpc_map_end.h:

  #if !((XPC_MAP_FLAGS) & NSIXPCSCRIPTABLE_WANT_PRECREATE)

and you can't use a '::'-qualified name inside a #if. I think this downside is
outweighed by the simplification described above.

Overall the patch removes 80 lines of code.

Nicholas Nethercote 7e1a8cf56c Bug 1315138 - gtestify storage/test/*.cpp. r=mak,erahm.
This change is mostly straightforward, except for the following.

- It removes all the printing from the do_check_* macros because gtest macros
  do appropriate printing.

- test_StatementCache.cpp needs some special gtest magic for the type
  parameterization.

- It merges the four tests in test_unlock_notify.cpp because they rely on being
  executed in order, and so aren't independent.

- storage_test_harness_tail.h is no longer necessary because gtest provides the
  test looping functionality.

- It uses #include and the preprocessor to remove the duplication between
  test_deadlock_detector.cpp and xpcom/tests/DeadlockDetector.cpp.

- It makes the test in test_service_init_background_thread.cpp a death test to
  force it to be the first storage gtest, because it fails otherwise.

- It adds code to undo the SQLite mutex hooking as necessary, so that tests
  don't interfere with each other.

- It de-virtualizes Spinner's destructor (as identified in bug 1318282).
