Returning a non-zero value in a platform driver's remove callback only
results in an error message ("remove callback returned a non-zero value.
This will be ignored.", see platform_remove()), and then the device is
removed anyhow.
As there was just a WARN_ON triggered, return 0 to drop the follow up
warning. The latter output is hardly relevant after the big WARN splat.
This is a preparation for making platform remove callbacks return void.

On architectures that require it, asm-generic/msi.h is already
dragged in by the higher level include files, and is commonly
refered to as 'asm/msi.h'.
It is also architecture specific, and breaks compilation in
a pretty bad way now that linux/gpio/driver.h includes asm/msi.h
(which drags a conflicting but nonetheless correct version
of msi_alloc_info_t on x86).

Allow free() callback to be overridden from irq_domain_ops for
hierarchical chips.
This allows drivers to free up resources which are allocated during
child_to_parent_hwirq()/populate_parent_alloc_arg() callbacks.
On Renesas RZ/G2L platform a bitmap is maintained for TINT slots, a slot
is allocated in child_to_parent_hwirq() callback which is freed up in free
callback hence this override.

The gpiolib is unique in the way it uses intermediate fwspecs
when feeding an interrupt specifier to the parent domain, as it
relies on the populate_parent_alloc_arg() callback to perform
a dynamic allocation.
This is pretty inefficient (we free the structure almost immediately),
and the only reason this isn't a stack allocation is that our
ThunderX friend uses MSIs rather than a FW-constructed structure.
Let's solve it by providing a new type composed of the union
of a struct irq_fwspec and a msi_info_t, which satisfies both
requirements. This allows us to use a stack allocation, and we
can move the handful of users to this new scheme.
Also perform some additional cleanup, such as getting rid of the
stub versions of the irq_domain_translate_*cell helpers, which
are never used when CONFIG_IRQ_DOMAIN_HIERARCHY isn't selected.
Tested on a Tegra186.

If a platform device's remove callback returns non-zero, the device core
emits a warning and still removes the device and calls the devm cleanup
callbacks.
So it's not save to not unregister the gpiochip because on the next request
to a GPIO the driver accesses kfree()'d memory. Also if an IRQ triggers,
the freed memory is accessed.
Instead rely on the GPIO framework to ensure that after gpiochip_remove()
all GPIOs are freed and so the corresponding IRQs are unmapped.

Currently if the APB or Debounce clocks aren't yet ready to be requested
the DW GPIO driver will correctly handle that by deferring the probe
procedure, but the error is still printed to the system log. It needlessly
pollutes the log since there was no real error but a request to postpone
the clock request procedure since the clocks subsystem hasn't been fully
initialized yet. Let's fix that by using the dev_err_probe method to print
the APB/clock request error status. It will correctly handle the deferred
probe situation and print the error if it actually happens.

i2c bus transfers for an unregistered device). Even before irq support was
added to this driver, exiting early was wrong; back then it failed to
unregister the gpiochip.
Fortunately these callbacks aren't used any more since at least blackfin
was removed in 2018. So just drop them.
Note that they are not removed from struct adp5588_gpio_platform_data
because the keyboard driver adp5588-keys.c also makes use of them.
(I didn't check if the callbacks might have been called twice, maybe there
is another reason hidden to better not call these functions.)
This patch is a preparation for making i2c remove callbacks return void.

timestamp gpio lines in using hardware means. To expose such

Gpiolib interprets the elements of "gpio-reserved-ranges" as "start, size"
because it clears "size" bits starting from the "start" bit in the according
bitmap. So it has to use "greater" instead of "greater or equal" when performs
bounds check to make sure that GPIOs are in the available range.
Previous implementation skipped ranges that include the last GPIO in
the range.

Since the questioned DTSes use "gpio-reserved-ranges = <0 4>"

Commit 5467801f1f ("gpio: Restrict usage of GPIO chip irq members
before initialization") attempted to fix a race condition that lead to a
NULL pointer, but in the process caused a regression for _AEI/_EVT
declared GPIOs.
This manifests in messages showing deferred probing while trying to
allocate IRQs like so:
amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to translate GPIO pin 0x0000 to IRQ, err -517
amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to translate GPIO pin 0x002C to IRQ, err -517
amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to translate GPIO pin 0x003D to IRQ, err -517
[ .. more of the same .. ]
The code for walking _AEI doesn't handle deferred probing and so this
leads to non-functional GPIO interrupts.
Fix this issue by moving the call to `acpi_gpiochip_request_interrupts`
to occur after gc->irc.initialized is set.

When compiling with -Wformat, clang emits the following warning:
gpiolib-acpi.c:393:4: warning: format specifies type 'unsigned char' but the argument has type 'int' [-Wformat]
pin);
^~~
So warning that '%hhX' is paired with an 'int' is all just completely
mindless and wrong. Sadly, I can see a different bogus warning reason
why people would want to use '%02hhX'.
Again, the *sane* thing from a human perspective is to use '%02X. But
if the compiler doesn't do any range analysis at all, it could decide
that "Oh, that print format could need up to 8 bytes of space in the
result". Using '%02hhX' would cut that down to two.
And since we use
char ev_name[5];
and currently use "_%c%02hhX" as the format string, even a compiler
that doesn't notice that "pin <= 255" test that guards this all will
go "OK, that's at most 4 bytes and the final NUL termination, so it's
fine".
While a compiler - like gcc - that only sees that the original source
of the 'pin' value is a 'unsigned short' array, and then doesn't take
the "pin <= 255" into account, will warn like this:
gpiolib-acpi.c: In function 'acpi_gpiochip_request_interrupt':
gpiolib-acpi.c:206:24: warning: '%02X' directive writing between 2 and 4 bytes into a region of size 3 [-Wformat-overflow=]
sprintf(ev_name, "_%c%02X",
^~~~
gpiolib-acpi.c:206:20: note: directive argument in the range [0, 65535]
because gcc isn't being very good at that argument range analysis either.
In other words, the original use of 'hhx' was bogus to begin with, and
due to *another* compiler warning being bad, and we had that bad code
being written back in 2016 to work around _that_ compiler warning
(commit e40a3ae1f794: "gpio: acpi: work around false-positive
-Wstring-overflow warning").
Sadly, two different bad compiler warnings together does not make for
one good one.
It just makes for even more pain.
End result: I think the simplest and cleanest option is simply the
proposed change which undoes that '%hhX' change for gcc, and replaces
it with just using a slightly bigger stack allocation. It's not like
a 5-byte allocation is in any way likely to have saved any actual stack,
since all the other variables in that function are 'int' or bigger.
False-positive compiler warnings really do make people write worse
code, and that's a problem. But on a scale of bad code, I feel that
extending the buffer trivially is better than adding a pointless cast
that literally makes no sense.
At least in this case the end result isn't unreadable or buggy. We've
had several cases of bad compiler warnings that caused changes that

In the snippets like the following
if (...)
return / goto / break / continue ...;
else
...
the 'else' is redundant. Get rid of it. In case of IOCTLs use
switch-case pattern that seems the usual in such cases.
While at it, clarify necessity of else in gpiod_direction_output()
by attaching else if to the closing curly brace on a previous line.

GPIO chip irq members are exposed before they could be completely
initialized and this leads to race conditions.
One such issue was observed for the gc->irq.domain variable which
was accessed through the I2C interface in gpiochip_to_irq() before
it could be initialized by gpiochip_add_irqchip(). This resulted in
Kernel NULL pointer dereference.
Following are the logs for reference :-

The overwhelming bulk of this pull request is a change from Uwe
Kleine-König which changes the return type of the remove() function to
void as part of some wider work he's doing to do this for all bus types,
causing updates to most SPI device drivers. The branch with that on has
been cross merged with a couple of other trees which added new SPI
drivers this cycle, I'm not expecting any build issues resulting from
the change.
Otherwise it's been a relatively quiet release with some new device
support, a few minor features and the welcome completion of the
conversion of the subsystem to use GPIO descriptors rather than numbers:
- Change return type of remove() to void.
- Completion of the conversion of SPI controller drivers to use GPIO
descriptors rather than numbers.
- Quite a few DT schema conversions.
- Support for multiple SPI devices on a bus in ACPI systems.
- Big overhaul of the PXA2xx SPI driver.

This works around an issue with the hardware where both OE and
DAT are exposed in the same register. If both are updated
simultaneously, the harware makes no guarantees that OE or DAT
will actually change in any given order and may result in a
glitch of a few ns on a GPIO pin when changing direction and value
in a single write.
Setting direction to input now only affects OE bit. Setting
direction to output updates DAT first, then OE.

However, the GPIO library APIs expect the debounce timeout to be in

Some GPIO lines have stopped working after the patch
commit 2ab73c6d83 ("gpio: Support GPIO controllers without pin-ranges")
And this has supposedly been fixed in the following patches
commit 89ad556b7f ("gpio: Avoid using pin ranges with !PINCTRL")
commit 6dbbf84603 ("gpiolib: Don't free if pin ranges are not defined")
But an erratic behavior where some GPIO lines work while others do not work
has been introduced.
This patch reverts those changes so that the sysfs-gpio interface works
properly again.

We are racing the registering of .to_irq when probing the
i2c driver. This results in random failure of touchscreen
devices.
Following explains the race condition better.
[gpio driver] gpio driver registers gpio chip
[gpio consumer] gpio is acquired
[gpio consumer] gpiod_to_irq() fails with -ENXIO
[gpio driver] gpio driver registers irqchip
gpiod_to_irq works at this point, but -ENXIO is fatal
We could see the following errors in dmesg logs when gc->to_irq is NULL
[2.101857] i2c_hid i2c-FTS3528:00: HID over i2c has not been provided an Int IRQ
[2.101953] i2c_hid: probe of i2c-FTS3528:00 failed with error -22
To avoid this situation, defer probing until to_irq is registered.
Returning -EPROBE_DEFER would be the first step towards avoiding
the failure of devices due to the race in registration of .to_irq.
Final solution to this issue would be to avoid using gc irq members
until they are fully initialized.
This issue has been reported many times in past and people have been
using workarounds like changing the pinctrl_amd to built-in instead
of loading it as a module or by adding a softdep for pinctrl_amd into
the config file.

The tegra186 GPIO driver makes the assumption that the pointer
returned by irq_data_get_irq_chip_data() is a pointer to a
tegra_gpio structure. Unfortunately, it is actually a pointer
to the inner gpio_chip structure, as mandated by the gpiolib
infrastructure. Nice try.
The saving grace is that the gpio_chip is the first member of
tegra_gpio, so the bug has gone undetected since... forever.
Fix it by performing a container_of() on the pointer. This results
in no additional code, and makes it possible to understand how
the whole thing works.

With v2 hardware, an IRQ can be configured to trigger on both edges via
a bit in the int_bothedge register. Currently, the driver sets this bit
when changing the trigger type to IRQ_TYPE_EDGE_BOTH, but fails to reset
this bit if the trigger type is later changed to something else. This
causes spurious IRQs, and when using gpio-keys with wakeup-event-action
set to EV_ACT_(DE)ASSERTED, those IRQs translate into spurious wakeups.

The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

For the CRC PMIC we end up with multiple irq-domains with the same fwnode.
One for the irqchip which demultiplexes the actual PMIC interrupt into
interrupts for the various cells (known as the level 1 interrupts);
And 2 more for the irqchips which are part of the crystal_cove_gpio
and crystal_cove_charger cells.
This leads to the following error being printed when
CONFIG_GENERIC_IRQ_DEBUGFS is enabled:
debugfs: File '\_SB.I2C7.PMIC' in directory 'domains' already present!
Set the bus token of the main IRQ domain to DOMAIN_BUS_WIRED to avoid
this error, this also allows irq_find_matching_fwspec() to find the
right domain if necessary.
Note all 3 domain registering drivers need to set the IRQ domain bus token.
This is necessary because the IRQ domain code defaults to creating
the debugfs dir with just the fwnode name and then renames it when
the bus token is set. So each one starts with the same default name and
all 3 must be given a different name to avoid problems when one of the
other drivers loads and starts with the same default name.

This also has the effect that interrupts won't work.
The same problem would also show up if multiple devices where plugged in.
Fix this by allocating the irq_chip data structure per instance like other

Some GPIO providers set names for GPIO lines that match the names of
the pins on the SoC, or variations on that theme. These names are
generic more often that not, such as pioC12 in the at91 case. These
generic names block the possibility to set more useful GPIO line
names with device properties (i.e. gpio-line-names).
Allow overriding a generic name given by the GPIO driver if there is
a name given to the GPIO line using device properties, but leave the
generic name alone if no better name is available.
However, there is a risk. If user space is depending on the above
mentioned fixed GPIO names, AND there are device properties that
previously did not reach the surface, the name change might cause
regressions. But hopefully this stays below the radar...

banks of GPIOs under a common GPIO expander. The core gpiolib core
however doesn't offer any way of passing this information from the

This extends struct gpio_chip with a pointer to fwnode that can be set

Currently the GPIO Aggregator does not support interrupts. This means
that kernel drivers going from a GPIO to an IRQ using gpiod_to_irq(),
and userspace applications using line events do not work.
Add interrupt support by providing a gpio_chip.to_irq() callback, which
just calls into the parent GPIO controller.
Note that this does not implement full interrupt controller (irq_chip)
support, so using e.g. gpio-keys with "interrupts" instead of "gpios"
still does not work.

First of all, it's obvious that different versions can't be provided
simultaneously. Hence, versions can't be bit masks.
Second, due to above we have to mask out the version field in the flags
and only that can be evaluated against the certain version.
Clarify all above by:
- introducing GPIO_REG_OFFSET_V1 and GPIO_REG_OFFSET_MASK
- replacing conditional to mask out bits and compare to a version

If the IRQ is already in use, then acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get_by() really
should not change the type underneath the current owner.
I specifically hit an issue with this an a Chuwi Hi8 Super (CWI509) Bay
Trail tablet, when the Boot OS selection in the BIOS is set to Android.
In this case _STA for a MAX17047 ACPI I2C device wrongly returns 0xf and
the _CRS resources for this device include a GpioInt pointing to a GPIO
already in use by an _AEI handler, with a different type then specified
in the _CRS for the MAX17047 device. Leading to the acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get()
call done by the i2c-core-acpi.c code changing the type breaking the
_AEI handler.
Now this clearly is a bug in the DSDT of this tablet (in Android mode),
but in general calling irq_set_irq_type() on an IRQ which already is
in use seems like a bad idea.

"The most interesting aspect is that we now have initial support for
the Apple pin controller as used in the M1 laptops and the iPhones
which is a step forward for using Linux efficiently on this Apple
silicon.
Core changes:
- Add infrastructure for per-parent interrupt data to support the
Apple pin controller.
New drivers:
- New combined pin control and GPIO driver for the Apple SoC. This is
used in all modern Apple silicon such as the M1 laptops but also in
at least recent iPhone variants.
- New subdriver for the Qualcomm SM6350
- New subdriver for the Qualcomm QCM2290
- New subdriver for the Qualcomm PM6350
- New subdriver for the Uniphier NX1
- New subdriver for the Samsung ExynosAutoV9
- New subdriver for the Mediatek MT7986
- New subdriver for the nVidia Tegra194
Improvements:
- Improve power management in the Mediatek driver.
- Improvements to the Renesas internal consistency checker.
- Convert the Rockchip pin control device tree bindings to YAML.
- Finally convert the Qualcomm PMIC SSBI and SPMI MPP GPIO driver to
use hierarchical interrupts.

The core gpiolib code is able to deal with multiple interrupt parents
for a single gpio irqchip. It however only allows a single piece
of data to be conveyed to all flow handlers (either the gpio_chip
or some other, driver-specific data).
This means that drivers have to go through some interesting dance
to find the correct context, something that isn't great in interrupt
context (see aebdc8abc9 for a prime
example).
Instead, offer an optional way for a pinctrl/gpio driver to provide
an array of pointers which gets used to provide the correct context
to the flow handler.

The ACPI_HANDLE() macro is a wrapper arond the ACPI_COMPANION()
macro and the ACPI handle produced by the former comes from the
ACPI device object produced by the latter, so it is way more
straightforward to evaluate the latter directly instead of passing
the handle produced by the former to acpi_bus_get_device().

An spi remove callback is only called for devices that probed

successfully. In this case this implies that __max730x_probe() set a
non-NULL driver data. So the check ts == NULL is never true. With this
check dropped, __max730x_remove() returns zero unconditionally. Make it
return void instead which makes it easier to see in the callers that
there is no error to handle.

The tmp[] member of the gpiochip_fwd structure is used to store both the
temporary values bitmap and the desc pointers for operations on multiple
GPIOs. As both are arrays with sizes unknown at compile-time, accessing
them requires offset calculations, which are currently duplicated in
gpio_fwd_get_multiple() and gpio_fwd_set_multiple().
Introduce (a) accessors for both arrays and (b) a macro to calculate the
needed storage size. This confines the layout of the tmp[] member into
a single spot, to ease maintenance.

The problem originates from the old device_add_properties() API, but

The commit 15add06841 ("gpio: pca953x: add ->set_config implementation")
introduced support for bias setting. However this, due to being half-baked,
brought potential issues:
- the turning bias via disabling makes the pin floating for a while;
- once enabled, bias can't be disabled.
Fix all these by adding support for bias disabling and move the disabling
part under the corresponding conditional.
While at it, add support for default setting, since it's cheap to add.

Pull pin control fixes from Linus Walleij:
"Some few pin control fixes for the v5.15 kernel cycle. The most
critical is the AMD fixes.
- Fix wakeup interrupts in the AMD driver affecting AMD laptops.
- Fix parent irqspec translation in the Qualcomm SPMI GPIO driver.
- Fix deferred probe handling in the Rockchip driver, this is a
stopgap solution while we look for something more elegant.
- Add PM suspend callbacks to the Qualcomm SC7280 driver.
- Some minor doc fix (should have come in earlier, sorry)"

This patch adds driver support for the zynqmp modepin GPIO controller.
GPIO modepin driver set and get the value and status of the PS_MODE pin,
based on device-tree pin configuration. These four mode pins are
configurable as input/output. The mode pin has a control register, which
have lower four-bits [0:3] are configurable as input/output, next four-bits
can be used for reading the data as input[4:7], and next setting the
output pin state output[8:11]. By default value of mode pin register is 0.

The function uses the newly introduced rockchip_gpio_readl_bit()
which directly returns the actual value of the requeste bit.
So using the existing bit-wise check for the bit inside the value
will always return 0.
Fix this by dropping the bit manipulation on the result.

The gpio driver runs into issues on v1 gpio blocks, as the db_clk
and the whole extended debounce support is only ever defined on v2.
So checking for the IS_ERR on the db_clk is not enough, as it will
be NULL on v1.
Fix this by adding the needed condition for v2 first before checking
the existence of the db_clk.
This caused my rk3288-veyron-pinky to enter a reboot loop when it
tried to enable the power-key as adc-key device.

Tegra194 and later support more than a single interrupt per bank. This
is primarily useful for virtualization but can also be helpful for more
fine-grained CPU affinity control. To keep things simple for now, route
all pins to the first interrupt.
For backwards-compatibility, support old device trees that specify only
one interrupt per bank by counting the interrupts at probe time.

Newer chips support up to 8 interrupts per bank, which can be useful to
balance the load and decrease latency. However, it also required a very
complicated interrupt routing to be set up. To keep things simple for
now, ensure that a single interrupt per bank is enforced, even if all
possible interrupts are described in device tree.

Commit 8dcb7a15a5 ("gpiolib: acpi: Take into account debounce settings")
made the gpiolib-acpi code call gpio_set_debounce_timeout() when requesting
GPIOs.
This in itself is fine, but it also made gpio_set_debounce_timeout()
errors fatal, causing the requesting of the GPIO to fail. This is causing
regressions. E.g. on a HP ElitePad 1000 G2 various _AEI specified GPIO
ACPI event sources specify a debouncy timeout of 20 ms, but the
pinctrl-baytrail.c only supports certain fixed values, the closest
ones being 12 or 24 ms and pinctrl-baytrail.c responds with -EINVAL
when specified a value which is not one of the fixed values.
This is causing the acpi_request_own_gpiod() call to fail for 3
ACPI event sources on the HP ElitePad 1000 G2, which in turn is causing
e.g. the battery charging vs discharging status to never get updated,
even though a charger has been plugged-in or unplugged.
Make gpio_set_debounce_timeout() errors non fatal, warning about the
failure instead, to fix this regression.
Note we should probably also fix various pinctrl drivers to just
pick the first bigger discrete value rather then returning -EINVAL but
this will need to be done on a per driver basis, where as this fix
at least gets us back to where things were before and thus restores
functionality on devices where this was lost due to
gpio_set_debounce_timeout() errors.
